RPT-IPO VIEW-Where have all the Chinese IPOs gone?

After a record number of Chinese companies sold shares through initial public offerings in the United States in 2007, Chinese IPOs have ground to a near halt here.

There are two Chinese offerings planned for the coming week, but even if they both reach the market -- always a question in today's turbulent markets -- it will only bring the number of Chinese offerings to four so far this year.

Last year, a record 31 Chinese companies raised $6.8 billion, according to Thomson Reuters data, led by some blockbuster deals, including the billion-dollar offering by Giant Interactive Group Inc (GA.N: Quote, Profile, Research), an online game developer; and the debuts of LDK Solar Co Ltd (LDK.N: Quote, Profile, Research), a renewable energy company, and China Nepstar Chain Drugstore Ltd (NPD.N: Quote, Profile, Research), which raised $486 million and $384 million, respectively. more

Local Businesses Hope Holiday Sales Boost Spending

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- High prices at the pump caused some people to cancel out-of-town Memorial Day weekend plans. Banking on those people staying home, many local stores held sales and promotions to encourage local spending.

Even with those deals, it seemed some area boutiques still didn't get the results they hoped.

Some local boutiques have closed their doors for good. . more

Google Maps Adds Mass Transit Support For S60 And Windows Mobile

It has added star-ratings for businesses, and it has begun sticking in geographically relevant content and links to mobile map search queries, such as nearby businesses.

Using the software, I was easily able to map a route from 72nd Street and Broadway in Manhattan to Astor Place. I purposely picked a route that I knew would require at least one transfer. The software correctly told me where to transfer to different trains, and if I'd actually had to travel that route, I wouldn't have had any problems (unless the MTA was having a bad day).

Give it a try.

Downtown growth lures big businessman Sal's Pizza owner considers

Salvatore Lupoli, owner of the Sal's Pizza chain, has been touring downtown as he considers opening a business there.

Lupoli operates food businesses throughout the area, including Salvatore's Restaurant in Lawrence, cafe-style restaurants, meals to go businesses and even sandwich shops.

Lupoli was in Haverhill yesterday on what he called a "search and discovery" mission to learn more about the downtown and how one of his businesses might fit in. He already has a Sal's Pizza just north of downtown.

The heart of Haverhill is teeming with development, including more than 800 apartments and condominiums under construction or planned for old shoe factories, and several new restaurants, lounges and shops. A 300-foot boardwalk will be built along the Merrimack River and a parking deck-transportation center also is planned. more
