Entrepreneur is named business hero

A FRODSHAM entrepreneur who has triumphed over personal adversity to successfully establish her own business, has been named one of the Western Region's Top 10 business heroes in the Barclays Trading Places Awards.

Janet Williams was presented with her certificate at a gala luncheon at Droitwich Spa on Tuesday.

The government backed awards, now in their fourth year, are supported by Jobcentre Plus and The Prince's Trust.

The awards recognise men and women who have overcome various barriers and battled against the odds to positively change their lives by setting up in business.

Janet Williams, who started Frodsham Laser Clinic this year, is now hoping to go on to scoop the top prize worth over £13,000 at an awards dinner in London in October.

British Council launches a search for the UAE's top visual arts talent

The British Council has launched its first International Young Visual Arts Entrepreneur (IYVAE) Award in the UAE, which aims to champion and celebrate the importance of creative entrepreneurs. The IYVAE Award will identify a UAE National or resident who is working in the visual arts sector and who is able to demonstrate business success with a social or not‑for‑profit enterprise in this sector. International recognition and an arts tour of the UK awaits the winner. According to the British Council, a creative entrepreneur is a risk taker with a passion for the creative sector (but not necessarily an artist/creative talent) with original ideas, leadership style and the international outlook and ability to influence and change the sector. Entries will be judged by a panel of experts from the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture & Heritage, the British Council and a local arts organisation, on the basis of their personal leadership in the visual arts industry in the UAE, and who hasve also developed initiatives (such as exhibitions, trade fairs, festivals) that have contributed to the development and growth of the market for this sector in the UAE. more

Is there a link to world terrorism & the global manufacture of arms?Most likely & surprisingly the 5 permanent members of the UN Security Council are in fact the manufactures of the majority of the world's arms. This obviously leaves little hope for any global peace so long as countries continue to profit from sales of arms!

Of late there has been a surge in terror attacks on Indian states - predominantly states under Hindu leadership which has prompted the terror to be labeled "pro Islamic" thus taking investigations along the lines that terrorism equates with Islam & obviously echoing US sentiments. Continuing with the Islamic tag India is likely to be making the same error the Americans have made since 9/11 unless Indians come out of the embryo to acknowledge that terror should be taken as terror before they politicize the event into fulfilling their hobby of finding fault with Pakistan. more

The full dark grey clouds spread low all over the properties of Saint Caucus; They hung over like they had been building since late last night. I slowly tightened my jaw and blinked my eyes, and raised my large head up above my sagging body and long legs. I squinted my eyes against the still, cool brightness of the early morning, and drew a deep breath in. My long, gaze started at the chain link lot around me, it stands as a reminder that this is my home, most dogs would never allow this, but my lot and house is a peaceful, wonderful place, I have a view of everything that stirs around me, and a reason to stay out of trouble. my owners know I can push open the gate with my long nose, so a red, was out, heavily chewed dog leash hooks there, latching the door. I stared past the holes in the fence to the yard, I watched a scuffed, black mouse scoot quickly across my favorite lone converse sneaker of Amber Lynn’s., which has also been saturated in rain, and pushes down into the grainy, wet, dirt. My eyes followed across the scattered, bumpy, dirt road seeing Ruby, the four year old horse that Amber Lynn got when she was only eleven, on the other side. Her small corral was at the base of a hill that forms right in front of Lake Allison, it is scatted with hay belles and one small jump, that she won in a county fair. She looked handsome against the dark nature scenery. Her white- based ,icy blue eye looks misplaced against her slim black features and body. Of course, I’m not one to judge, my whole person looks out of place. I am a pit bull/ beagle mix, which a lot of times turns people away. I stand at a medium-short height, and have a medium build, I have loose skin, which Dangles at my neck, leaving my neck thicker than my head. I also have a long face, solidly colored caramel eyes, and I have the legs of a heavy set deer. Brown and black dominate my face, with a white stripe from my nose to my forehead, my back is heavily spotted in black, and clouded with large black splotches on top of a white base. I arose to my feet on top of my quilt that is laid out on the ground, right before southern gospel music poured from the wall of the house that I am right in front of, signaling Amber Lynn’s clock radio alarm, which meant it was six o’ clock a.m., soon she would be leaving for school. Amber Lynn’s window blinds rise and she peers outside, her breather fogs the cold glass. Her shoulder length hair that is usually strait, is wavy and messy, her face is drowsy, and she is wearing a light tan tank top and grey pajama bottoms. She looks to my lot and smiles. Her front teeth are large and flat, and beside them smaller ones make a nice length in the apples of her cheeks, average pointy ones finish her smile next. I wagged my tail rapidly and searched for my voice. I let out a part broken howl, that was my specialty I usually did at night or when I am following a car. I woke up Dude, the rottweiler/ lab mix that shares my owners. I heard him sneeze in the section behind the house that was his, his lot was made of wood, while mine had chain link, that alone was about the only difference between our lots. Both of our dog houses had been personalized by Amber Lynn, with a brochure from our vet, Ms. Parker, pictures of Ruby from her shows, magazine clippings, the Lord’s Prayer, a school paper, and other things that catches her eye as something we would want, She even left a big, red lipstick kiss stain on our wall. I have a grey ceramic bowl for food, I also have a large, yellow bucket for water that, before I arrived was used for woodworking, which Darrin and Joe (Amber Lynn’s father and grandfather) do as a hobby and small business. The sun slightly peaked over the horizon, Ruby neighed quietly. I looked to the top of the hill, stretching widely, I remember times when we would be at Lake Allison at this time, touching the cold mud in the basin, walking down rock, following the water that trickles down them, and challenging trouts to races. The grey screen door flew open on the porch, and Amber Lynn stepped out, wearing a pair of jeans, a v- neck olive green t- shirt, and a small gold necklace hooked to her neck. She was carrying a can of canned dog food, which she popped open and dumped into my ceramic bowl. I charged for the slices of meet greedily, swallowing loudly. I eat quicker than most dogs because my neck is bigger, The food slid down my throat and I licked the cowl clean, ready for a new meal. Amber Lynn laughed and slid her slender hand into the holes of the chain link and scratched behind my ear. As she pulled back, I noticed her fingernails were painted a chrome russet color, it looked exquisite against her lightly tan fair skin. Ayden, Amber Lynn’s four year old little brother marched through the door, wearing a black batman t shirt, short jeans, and white sneakers. “Hey Tayhloor.” he yelled, getting Ruby’s attention. Hi, I have started taking up a few different crafts and projects and I am going to start an online site with it to try to make some money for school. I can't think of a good name and any help would be great. It is mostly sewing play food, making doll food out of clay. some jewelry, home decor and some personalized items for kids(jewelry boxes, necklaces, etc.) I would like to eventually take up some pottery and woodworking. I know that is a little all over the place but I want it all on one site and not 4 or 5 different ones. There isn't a specific style (vintage for example) so I can't really get a good idea. I have quite a few people I need to buy for this year, but don't really have an idea of what or where to start. If I tell you a little bit about the people, could you help me think of presents that might work? My budget is pretty open. Fiance: Already ordered him a Roku netflix player - need another idea, too. He's a complete and total movie freak. He's also really into martial arts, running, cooking, travel, and music. He already has all the clothes/shoes/accessories that he wants. He also really enjoys camping and the outdoors. He wanted a kayak, but we have no place to store that in our condo. He's a videographer by profession, so anything related to that would be good, but would also probably be more than I can afford. Any ideas? Father: No idea. Help! He's very much a guy's guy, and loves woodworking and lathe work, and motorcycles (BMW - he's not a Harley guy or a biker type - just likes to ride.) He also likes music to some degree. Fiance's mother: Again, help me. She already HAS everything she could possibly want, and has everything she could want/need to decorate her home. She runs a franchise jewelry business, and travels a LOT. She's really kind of a fun-spirited hippy chick. I like her. :-) Fiance's Father/Stepmom: This is what's particularly stumping me. They are very well traveled and affluent - it's truly a 'what to get the couple who has everything' question. They work together as a team in higher education, travel all over the world constantly, and are highly interested in diplomacy, peace in the Middle East, and humanitarianism. My sister: She is married and has 6 children. She is a nurse, and so is her husband. I'd like to get a 'family present', so I don't have to buy 8. She's into Yoga a lot lately, and loves to read. My brother: Lives in Alaska with his wife and 16 year old daughter. He's a machinist, gun enthusiast, and hunter. He also loves motorcycles, snomobiling, and paintball. Read: Redneck. I would also like to get a 'family gift' for them as well. My aunt: We are visiting her over the holidays, and I'd like to give her a 'thank you' gift for having us. My dad has been in the woodworking business for over 20 years. He makes customized countertops and cabinets for businesses like restaurants and dentists' offices. He does everything by himself from the initial client/estimation, labor, to the installation...everything. He has a good reputation, and I want to build upon that. I own my own business and after a year of toiling away and making barely any cash I desperately need to get back into the job market, my only problem is how to describe the current employment situation and how I came to that. I was laid off in January of 2006, so I wanted to start my own business in woodworking and other various things. I don't actually make anything, my fiance does. We look for places to sell them together and come up with ideas for things together and it's all in my name anyway. So...how do I word this? I don't want future employers to think that my primary concern wouldn't be their company and the job at hand. My company is very part time and are high dollar items so business is scarce. Any advice?
