The Vision Myth
In small, intimate groups, almost every entrepreneur admits that there wasn't a grand vision for their businesses. It was more like a random series of events that led to their now-growing and successful business.
However, for some reason, many entrepreneurs want to whitewash their early years and retell the story with a different beginning. These entrepreneurs feel some sort of need to have had a brilliant vision for their business from day one. I call this the Vision Myth. I've felt this pressure to tell the story of how my company got started with some sort of intelligent vision in place.
Many entrepreneurs make up a story whereby they had this brilliant vision right out of the gate, rather than tell the truth -- that the first few years were not perfectly planned. more
100 mpg softens blow of gas prices Entrepreneur opens motor
With a family and children involved in sports and other activities, Ken Watson just couldnt justify trading his SUV on a smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicle.
But the rising gas cost really got me thinking theres got to be a way around these high prices, he said.
For Watson it was the World Wide Web to the rescue.
Most of my errands are 10 miles or less and I had seen some motor scooters around, so I got on the Internet and found a local dealer.
I test drove one and it literally sold itself. After buying it and riding it around for a couple of weeks I decided I needed to sell them. If I would buy one, so would a lot of people, said Watson.
Last week he opened the doors of Jax City Scooters on Ocean Street between Bay and Forsyth streets. He has about a dozen scooters in stock and said the first time he opened the dealership and let customers in to see the Chinese-made motor scooters, his suspicion that a lot of people are looking for a way to save money on gas was confirmed. more

BEFORE I START !!** Scamps was a Pet store. I told her not to buy him from there but she did anyways but its okay NOW because Scamps is no longer in business.**!! About a year ago, my sister bought a Chihuahua from Scamps(info above) and all of their dogs were registered(possibly) but I was skeptical because he was registered with a kennel club called ACA. Even though they mailed us his papers, I still don't believe that it is a real kennel club. Does anyone have a dog registered with ACA? If so, what does it stand for? Is it even real?We know that he is a purebred but he is part Deer (leg?) chihuahua and part Apple head, plus we did a blood/ansestry(spelling?) test. The only reason I ask is because she is thinking of breeding him to show dogs but I know that it is a bad idea and when I saw who he was registered with I was sure it wasn't a real registry. moreResolved Question: I am so embarrassed about my pomeranian?
Okay,so I went to Pet-co yesterday at 11:00 am and we were going to get my dog her annual vaccinations. When we asked the lady she said that the vaccinations were from 2-4 pm.So we decided to take a picture with a big furry animal. When we were in line my dog peed.I was so embarrassed.my dad had to ask the manager for a napkin to pick it up.And when it was our turn the big furry animal went over to get my dog to smell him and my dog started growling and almost snapped at him.She was fine with everyone else.So we took the picture and I had to carry her because the guy in the costume was scared. Then we were walking around the store and a wheaten terrier started trying to play with my dog.She stayed still like a rock. Then we left.I am going to pet-co again today and im scared. Why did my dog pee i took her out before we left to do her business. And will she try to snap at the vet and the guy in the costume. How can I prevent this. And did you think my experience was funny. moreResolved Question: Looking to start a small business?
I want to start a small business in Massachusetts selling small completely aquatic frogs and tadpoles, habitats, and their food at a local flea market or eventually a mall. I know what I would need to sell and possibly where to get it, but I don't know what kind of paper work I would need for this. The frogs are completely legal here, and a few pet stores carry them. I've seen many kiosks that sell hermit crabs, however I've never seen one that sells these little frogs. I know when I was a kid I loved watching the tadpole's metamorphasis and after going to talk to a class of 2nd graders about frogs there is still a lot of interest in them. I would be breeding the frogs myself, also. I have done a lot of research on the needs of these frogs and feel confident in being able to sell them in appropriate habitats. I would really appreciate any and all feedback. Thank you! moreResolved Question: do you think my pet buissness might work?
i love animals and pets and stuff, I also have always wanted to own a pet store. My mom brought this idea up. I have a cat grass / cat nip plants. And I know how to care and dry the crop. I recently dried some. Anyway, getting to the point my mom said I could make little cat toys. Her brothers own a family Business. Its textiles and I think they make stuff like pillows and all. So then my mom said she could ask them to make little toys, which then I could fill with stuff like the cat nip and cat grass. I would buy the toys from them and stuff. Then once I made the complete toy, I could sell them online or sell them in a pet shop. I would also do other stuff, not just cat toys. Do you think it might work out? Also at a craft fair or something, I have seen stuff like that but instead its the things you put in drawers, they kinda started like How I might. moreResolved Question: My kitten has started peeing everywhere!?
We bought her about 3 days ago from a pet store, she's 12 weeks and a couple of days. She's a Ragdoll so we're making her an inside cat, she's not yet neutered. Well last night she seemed pretty agitated whilst we were watching tv, so I got her to follow me back to the litter box so she knew the way and she did a poop. About 10 minutes later she jumps on the couch, sat just in between 2 cushions, and peed! We didn't realise until half way through her piddle, when I picked her up and rushed her to the litter box, I had disposed of the poop beforehand. She has also done it again this morning, but on the AC vent! Also she started off using the litter box right until now, and we use a crystal like litter that the pet shop recommended, as they use it too and she would understand it as where to do her business. The litter box we have in the laundry, with her food, water, scratching post, and bed. We usually let her out during the day for a play but at night we have her in the laundry because she's still getting used to everything. moreResolved Question: How Do I Keep A New Cat Safe ...?
There is a stray cat hanging around the neighborhood. I've tried to make friends a couple of times, even putting food out for it. The problem is the dog ... he's somewhat territorial. I'm not exaggerating when I say that he hates cats. He loses his mind around them. He doesn't like strangers coming into "his" yard; my niece moved away for a couple of years, and he lost it when she visited. It wasn't until she started scolding him for barking at her (she was like, "Are you kidding? You know better than that") that he recognized her voice and started jumping up and down and wagging his tail. Outside of the yard, though, he's like a little lamb. Anywhere else, he lets complete strangers come up to him and pet him. There is a limit to his "meekness", however ... when it comes to cats! I've had to literally stare him down for him to look shame-faced and back down from messing with cats while I'm walking him. I had a cat that died when he was 18 years old. The dog came into our lives when he was a puppy that somebody dropped off and abandoned outside a store. He tried to pounce my cat's tail, and lost it when the cat swung on him and scratched the living daylights out of his face. I scolded him and made it clear that he had no business trying to look evil-eyed and yap at my cat, and trying to make a move against him. Afterwards, he never tried anything with the cat; they never socialized, and they stayed out of each others' way. He seemed to respect that the cat was there first, and that the cat was a big part of our household way before he came into the picture. Now that the cat is gone, he's our only canine/feline family member. He's too spoiled, though. He's got it in his head that no other cats are allowed in "his" yard. Dogs he can handle. He'd welcome a canine friend ... as long as this canine friend conceded that he was "king of the yard". He'll try to intimidate the heck out of that cat ... or any cat, for that matter. The only time he backs down is when I'm out there, and I give him "the stare". Then he sits down and doesn't dare move. I can't say that I trust him, though, since he continues to stare evilly at the cat, and he doesn't appear to be very happy that he can't "express himself". I suppose I can visit the dog pound and try to get a kitten ... one that the dog won't feel very threatened by. I don't get the feeling that he'll try to hurt a kitten that I personally bring into the home. More than likely, he'll try to play with it. I think I can mediate in that situation, and make sure that he doesn't play too rough. But I want the stray. It looks so much like my cat that died, right down to the color and markings, and it seems to have specifically chosen this yard to hang out in. How can that not be a sign ... especially after the death of my cat affected me so badly that, for a long time, I couldn't even THINK about replacing him? If the stray comes to trust me, how do I mediate between it and the dog? moreResolved Question: how to deal with a broken heart due to pet loss?
Hello Everyone!!!! My name is Shaniqua Davis and this is my first time on yahoo answers. How was everyones new year? Great I hope!!! My new year started out terrible. My dog was hit and killed by a truck on new years day. She was a german shepherd named Princess. I loved my dog and I'm sitting here crying my eyes out right now because I feel it is my fault my dog is dead. This is what happened.... I got up new years day and was greeted with the sweet face of my doggie. She was by my bed waiting anxiously for me to get up and start a day of play with her. I let her out to do her business and then she came back in and bounded happily to me with her favorite toy in her mouth. I cleaned myself up and got dressed and was getting ready to start my day with Princess. My mom asked me to go to the store for her to pick up something for our new years dinner my dog went with me we went everywhere together. When we came back home I was trying to put my dog's leash on so I could take her for a walk. While I was doing this Princess suddenly started getting very excited about something I saw what she was so excited about, she wanted to get at a cat that was crossing the street. I grabbed hold of her and was trying to hold her back but she slipped away from me and took off running after the cat. The cat ran back to the other side of the street and Princess was right behind the cat. The kitten made it across the street but when my dog ran in the street a truck came speeding down my street hit my dog and kept going. He didn't even stop or slow down. I ran to my dog and was cradling her in my arms while I was screaming for my mother to come help me. I started crying and talking to Princess and telling her to "please don't leave me" but it was too late. Princess raised her head up looked at me with tears streaming down my face and gave me one last kiss as if she was saying goodbye and that she loved me and for me not to be sad and that it wasn't my fault. Then she started gasping for air and then I felt her body go limp. She closed her eyes and then she was gone. I sat in the middle of the street crying and holding Princess. A few seconds later my mom and my neighbor came out and saw me in the street holding my dog and they ran over to me. They thought she was still living but she was already dead!!! I feel it was my fault because if I would've put her leash on before I took her out of the car she would still be alive. My mom, sister, and my brother say it's not my fault but I know deep down they blame me for our dogs death I blame myself too. I did get the trucks license plate though. I am severely depressed, i've been diagnosed with severe depression. I have to force myself to get out of bed. It's hard for me to eat, sleep, go to work or do anything I think about suicide alot. I don't go anywhere anymore my friends try to get me to go out with them but I'm just not interested in doing anything. My mom says maybe I need to go to counseling but I don't want to. I haven't been out of the house in 2 days I'm on vacation for 2 weeks from work but I don't plan to do anything.... I don't want to do anything. I want to be with my dog I never got the chance to tell her goodbye and that I loved her. I know this sounds silly but I would do anything just to get the chance to have her back even if it's only for a minute so I could tell her goodbye and that I love her and miss her terribly. My heart's torn to pieces completely.I can't make it without her she was my baby. I never thought losing a pet could hurt this much. Has anyone else gone through this? If so what did you do to get over your loss? Please no mean comments I'm crushed enough as it is already. Thanks Shaniqua moreVoting Question: Are ABC blocks safe to use in a pets cage?
So my friends and I are very responsible and decided to start a pet sitting business for caged pets only. After the pets stay we will clean their cage and give them a wooden block for a toy. The only wooden blocks I have are the ABC blocks and I wasn't sure if the paint would be safe... I looked them up on petco's website and they had ABC blocks too. Their ABC blocks also had pictures of ducks on them and stuff, on the block description it said "pet-safe painted decorations" so I wasn't sure if that meant the ABC of the ducks and things. So would it be safe to use regular ones from like a toy store that I already have or those ones? Here is the link http://www.petco.com/product/11331/PETCO-ABC-Block-Chew-Toys.aspx Thanks!! moreResolved Question: Running a small home business?
I am in the starting process of breeding crickets and would like to eventually sell them to the public and possibly bait stores and pet stores. However, I don't know if there are any special licenses or permits you need in order to sell them. I would run this business out of my home and would advertise it in local newspapers and fliers and other similar forms of advertisement. So my question is: Do you need any special documents, license(s), or permit(s) in order to do this sort of thing? I live in Florida if that helps at all. Thanks for the help. moreResolved Question: What is a good name for a dog store?
I'm doing a project for my business class in which I'm creating a fictional store. I can't think of a good name for a dog store. It's not going to be a "pet" store, I'm specifically selling dogs. Also, if anyone has a reasonable guess as to how much capital I might need to start a dog store, feel free to leave a price.Again, this is a FICTIONAL project. I'm not a BYB and I'm not really planning on starting my own business, ever. Please stop criticizing my choice of a fictional business. moreResolved Question: How do I train this puppy?
Hi everyone! I need help! Ok, I have 2 male Chihuahua pups, Paco and Muppet. I have had them since birth, they are brothers, and are now 5 months old. I started out "paper training" the whole litter of puppies, but as they found new homes, I started taking my boys outside to do their business, and weaning them off of the paper. Low and behold, they one day started using my cat's litter box! We were doing fine for a while, but Muppet still was having occasional accidents outside of the litter box. Now, he won't use it at all! Still using the floor. It is always the same spot every time. I have bleached the floor, used ammonia, bought oder remover from the pet store, everything I can think of to make him choose somewhere else to go, or to go in the litter box, as the spot he has picked is right in front of the last step on our stairs! I take him out as much as I can off and on throughout the day, but he still manages to hit the floor at least once a day. I even had to take my Christmas tree skirt and presents up out from under the tree because they have picked the tree skirt as the pee spot! Can someone help me out with some suggestions here? Paco is doing just fine with the litter box, and he goes outside with Muppet everyday. What else can I do? How do I get sweet little Muppet back on track? Thank you in advance! PS> Have you ever heard of 2 brother dogs being sexually attracted to each other? Muppet was "all out" the other day! It was after him and Paco were humping each other. Kinda freaked me and him out! lol Poor little thing looked at me like "What did I do wrong?"The detailed answer may be the most informative, but K, yeah, Ammonia. Although I have already tried bleach and a diluted bleach solution. This morning when he got up (he is my son's puppy and sleeps upstairs with him) and came downstairs, we cuddled as usual, and I kinda just mumbled to myself "please don't pee in the floor today buddy, just go use the box or tell me you need to go out ok?", and then we went to go out. We passed the litterbox on the way and I thought "hey, why not try one more time?" So I asked Muppet if he needed to go Pee and told him to go get in the box and pee. He looked back and me and low and behold the little devil went and climbed in the box and Did his business, both!!! Oh my word, I was so happy I started clapping and praising as much as I could and grabbed the nearest thing I could to give him for a treat (it just happened to be a few pieces of dry cat food. At the moment, anything would have worked for me.) No accidents for the rest of the day. Who knows? moreResolved Question: Where to find free kitchen space to use part time?
In the Columbus, Ohio area: I am in the beginning stages of starting my own bakery, but can not bake out of my home since I have pets. I do not want the headache of a store front until my business expands. I am looking for a communal kitchen for little little to no cost to rent 1 or 2 days a week. Does anyone know how to find such a thing? I have Google over and over, nothing comes up. Or does anyone know of a restaurant owner that would let me use their space after hours? 10 points for best answer!I have spoken with the Columbus city health department and it is not illegal to do so. You can cook out of your house as long as it is stated on your product, but you can not do it of you have pets. I am not just coming out of the gates here, I have spent many hours calling about licensing and violations. My question has nothing to do with legalities. My question is for anyone who may know where to find communal cooking space in the Columbus area. I also had a friend in Portland who worked alongside a chef/owner and all she had to do was sign some forms and make sure she cleaned up her space. There are tons of people who do this in N.Y.C because the rent is so high and space is limited. Please, If you can't answer the question posted, just don't answer. moreVoting Question: To Manage Microsoft Small Business ACcounting Program?

Before you all start writing stuff like "you should leave him" or "kick his ass to the curb" pls read the entire message. If it was that easy I would have done so already. I'm a stay at home mom w/a baby, and a 6 yr old, suffering from chronic back pain and some mental issues like ADHD and memory loss and concentration. So it's not like I can just go out and get a job as I prob wouldn't be able to keep it b/c of my medical issues, but my main concern is my girls & making things work. Everyone makes mistakes, but what I want from you is a way to make him prove to me he is sincere about making our marriage work and how to make him show me he is telling the truth & his focus is me and the girls and not some fantasy girl in another state. If push comes to shove I will get a divorce as I'm not stupid, but as an outside you have to remember how complicated situations can be, especially when children are involved. Read below. My husband & I have been married 7 years & last May, in fact on my birthday, I find out he is having an affair w/another pet store owner he met at a conference earlier that year, that lives in MN. Immediately after finding out my husband asks me for a divorce & a month later he and his cheating partner both decide to stay w/their spouses b/c of all of the complications and both families have kids. In fact I had just had a baby 6 months prior & gained 100lbs & was at my worst place ever, dealing with a baby that had Colic, a 5 year old, being at home full time, depressed, and severely over weight. Even though they both agreed to stay w/their spouse they still communicated w/each other on a daily basis using phone, text, and email. In August I finally had enough & asked my husband to stop talking to her all together or I will be finding a new place to live. I told him it was so wrong of them to keep talking to each other after what they did & they claimed they were friends but they continued to express their feelings of love. I told my husband that they CANT focus on fixing their marriages if they are talking to each other & keep feelings alive that should die. So he asked me what I wanted him to do and I told him to send her a text message, as he refused to call her in front of me, and tell her he could no longer talk to her and to pretty much go away. Since that day I've seen calls to her on our cell bill the following month which he claimed was to ask her a question about the business & after that I havent seen her number show up, but I did mention to him that she could call him at work & I would never know. He swore he wasn't talking to her. There were 2 more incidents after that, one of which was 3 weeks ago where I found a file of mine I had cut & paste of a conversation we had on his computer & the date he did it was Oct 27th, 2009. We get in to a huge argument where he tells me again nothing is going on, he hasnt spoken to her in months & told me I was being paranoid & I have to learn to trust him. Well today I find on his phone 2 email messages that started in Sept and go through Oct 20th, 2009 was the last communication, they hit the reply button so the previous message would copy to the next. In those messages I saw her telling my husband she loved him and missed him and in one message he told her how his missed her smiling face and wished they could be together and run their business together. One of the last messages was her saying she is going to call the store & will use a different name when she called. I yelled at him this morning about the messages & called him a liar. He tells me they mean nothing & he was just talking to her. I told him she still loves him & wants to be with him & he tells me he doesnt feel the same. So I read him his message he wrote about missing her & wanting to be with her which he tells me he had a moment of weakness after a horrible day, but realizes that it will never happen & his focus is on me and the girls. He told me he has been trying very hard to work on our marriage, which he has been over the past month, but this last week he has been acting like he did when he was cheating which is why I searched his phone for clues. I reminded him of the past 3 months of me point blank asking him if he was cheating on me or talking to her & how he point blank told me "NO" he wasn't & he hadn't talked to her in several months. He told me it was a double edge sword & didn't want a fight as he thought if he told me I would be pissed & in his mind since nothing was going on it was best to say nothing. He swears she has never called the store & that he hasnt spoken to her in over a month & has no plans to. He reassured me that his focus is on me & the girls & he has no interest in something that will never work out with this woman. I want to believe him, but every inch I give him of trust comes back a mile of lies. I think he needs to send her a message and tell her it's over and to NEVER contact him again, but I also n moreResolved Question: can i use my gi bill to start a business?

Don't report or I'll cry :( I'm actually interested to see the amount of years people would wait to have kids etc. thanks. 1. You just got married to the man of your dreams, what is his name and how long do you wait to have kids? Your husband gives you a necklace with your favorite jewel when you tell him the news, and you find out you are having a girl! Her middle name is the jewel your husband gave you, first name is long, elegant, and feminine. 2. You love being a mother and decide to have more kids. You are financially stable so how long do you wait to have more? You find out you are having a girl and your husband really wants to honor you somehow, but you don't want to use your exact name. You choose a girls name that was popular in the year you were born (besides yours if its popular). The middle name is a family name. 3. Two years later your girls ages are: You know they definitely want a brother and your husband really wants a son. You pursue this and get your wish plus 1! Twin boys! I'm 20. I live in Alabama. I want to open a pet supply store. I don't have a business degree but I was thinking about trying to find a partner who knows the business side because I am very experienced on the animal side. I will specialize in cat and dog supplies. I also have no credit. I don't have bad credit, just no credit. Is there anything out there that helps people like me start a business? Also, I don't have a job either. It's hard to find a job out here. moreResolved Question: Do you own a dog or cat in Alabama?
I am considering starting my own pet business by opening up a pet supply store. I would be selling organic, natural holistic pet food and treats, toys, clothes, accessoried, beds, bowls, collars & lesahes. The whole 9 yards and at great prices. If I opened this store, would you shop there? Or do you think it would do well? I would open it in the Birmingham or Trussville area. moreResolved Question: Could my business idea be profitable?
Hello everyone! Ok, so I want to own my own business (currently in hs, plan on getting a business degree @ college). I absolutely LOVE animals, so I want to open a pet supply/tack store. (Kind of like how petsmart used to have a "state line tack" section for horses). There are 2 pet stores that are over 17 miles away, and no tack store anywhere near here. (I have never seen/heard of one, I am pretty sure they are all at least 3 hours away, probably more). My pet store will be unique, because I find that although I love pets, pet stores are always either 1. cramped, stinky, dark, miserable places, and you feel bad for the animals or 2. bright lights, no personality, feel like a hospital. Mine would be a main-street store, with character. And well ventilated and lighted. So, it will be a pleasant place to be in. Second, I hate at most pet stores (that aren't chains) they are overcrowded with animals, and don't offer much variety as far as supplies (especially for birds, reptiles, and small pets). So I am going to sell mainly supplies (for horses, dogs, cats, fish, reptiles, birds, and small pets). Now, I will have a small selection of pets. This will be fish, mice and rats (they will be feeders or pets), some hand fed birds (I am a total bird nut and want to start raising some of my own, but not a lot), and probably hermit crabs and some other type of small pet (cavy or hamsters). Oh! And I am going to try to work with the local animal shelter to set up "adoption days" where they bring some dogs and/or cats that need homes, and people can come to my store and adopt them. I am sure you have seen this at petsmart, tractor supply, or some other store. So, do you think my business would be profitable? Or should I keep looking for a different career?Actually, the town I live in is kind of weird. There are only 3,000 people that live here year round (but it has tons of other towns, some are BIG). In the late spring, summer, and fall, there are TONS of people here. Just one festival brought in over 30,000 and it stays that way all summer. Plus there's tons of RICH people here. So there are plenty of people. And I know there is a lot that goes into a business plan, but thats beside my question, which is actual pet stores. Also, I am well aware that supplies is the main thing that makes $$, thats what I said, I am going to have very few pets, and don't tell me not to have any either. Pets bring in customers, even if they don't buy them, they see the other stuff. moreResolved Question: What do I have to do to start a Pet Shop?
I just want an idea. I have no idea what I want to do with my life but I know I want to work with animals. I have never been good at science so being a vet or vet tech aren't really what I am looking for. I have grown up with a lot of animals, even exotic ones since my mother had a license to breed sugar gliders. I want to start a pet store sometime in my life. I just don't know if I would need college behind me or what. I am currently a full time student at a community college. I know I want a lot more experience with animals before I start a business. I already know a ton about owning your own business because my parents have owned a family restaurant my whole life and I have helped with all of the 'behind the scenes' things. If you know something about owning a pet store let me know, please. moreResolved Question: Opened my own business, renting space, legal question?
I opened a dog grooming business and I am renting the space from a woman who owns a pet shop in the front section of the building. She is charging me $375/mo. for rent. Now, she told me before I started, that I can set my own hours, prices, etc. She is now telling me that I can only be open the hours she is, which is 10-5 M-F, 10-1 on Sat. Saturdays I NEED to be open from 10-5, or 11-6. Can I do anything b/c she is denying me the hours I need to be productive? She is worried about someone being in the store when she is not there. She WILL NOT consider staying at the store for the hours I need to be there.I didn't get a lease, yet. I opened on the 28th of Sept. and I have only had 3 customers. I KNOW I need a lease and am going to talk with her about it this Sat. But, without a lease, under verbal agreement, do I have any recourse? Now this woman sent me an email tonight telling me to come get my stuff b/c I mentioned a lease with her and I was confused about her demands on my business hours. I am seeking legal advice, but not sure where I stand. Are emails admissable in court as proof of a contract? moreResolved Question: If I wanted to do start a career doing these things...?

It was about a girl and she took a job at a pet store with a man (im pretty sure his name started with a T). Btw the girl has a good memory of dog faces. One book had one with apricot poodles. In the first part the boy who likes her gets a dog(i think it was a shiba inu not sure). She took a job as a hostess and her nickname was moe. Then it was another hostess's birthday and she got an apricot poodle and sold it to a business that steals dogs and they are all sick. I know i just told you half of the story but i can remember everything in it but just not the name. Please Help. moreResolved Question: Popular animals to start of a reptilian/amphibian online store?
Ok, here is the situation. I have 2 passions, one being paleontology, which if i want to make a decent living with, will require many years of college. Also, I love working with reptiles and amphibians. I'm definitely going to go to college for a bachelors in biology, then a masters-PhD in paleontology, since I love the subject, but I still would like to open up a reptilian/amphibian store, or an "exotic store" if you'd like to call it that. Now, I don't have the money or the time for a full blown store. By the way, I have taken 4 business classes in high school, (typing, advanced typing, accounting, etc.) and I'm going to take marketing and college accounting senior year if that makes a difference. So, I want to start with an online store, and maybe in the far (far as in 10-20 years from now) open up a full blown store. But I'm going to have to start small. I have been successful with breeding and selling tree frogs online over the last summer. I bred a couple generations and made about $500 for every 2000 tadpoles I sold (could have been more if I had gotten my hands on the bull frogs I wanted to breed) Now What I need, is a small list of reptiles/amphibians to start off with. I have an entire normal sized room that I will be able to prepare to dedicate to this, and once I expand I will either buy a small ware house or something (but those are questions to focus on in the future). The reptiles/amphibians need to be popular, easy to breed, and easy to care for. Also snakes may be a problem since UPS prohibits them but I haven't checked with USPS yet. (relatively, I have experience with all sorts of reptiles and amphibians, but nothing that ever exceeded a 20 gallon tank, however, I always wanted to get a 75 gallon tank when I had enough room so I have been doing a lot of research on Beardies and CWDs etc.) . If you have any suggestions that would fall under all 3-4 of those that would be excellent! Now I'm not looking for a HUGE LIST! Just some "must have" pets that would be top priority for this... Now I hope to get this started in the next 2 years or so, and it will probably be more practical if I do it during the summers when I'll be home from college, but I might go to a community college for my first 2 years, which would allow me to be A LOT closer to home. Also any other advice would be great! please, if you have something which to say which would be "depressing" (not sure what word I'm looking for but you get the idea) by all means go ahead and tell me, but try not to be a "ball buster" Thanks a bunch, James P.S. in case your wondering, here is UPS's list of approved and prohibited live animals list. I still have not found a list for USPS yet but I think they are tolerant of almost anything tough. What's going on?
I just got my teddy bear hamster yesterday from the pet store and he seems already settled down. He's really curious and runs a lot. It looked like he wanted to get out and I thought it would be good to give him more space, so I let him crawl onto my hand and I put him on the carpet. He started chewing it, so I put the exercise ball over him and closed it. He then ran around my room non-stop. It was 2am and 20 minutes later, I decided to put him back in his cage so I could sleep. He wouldn't stay inside and wanted to crawl back into the ball. I let him run around some more and tried to put him back in his cage. *** He crawled into the ball again and after he ran around my room for a while, he stopped and looked stressed. I thought he was going to do his 'business', but then I saw pink fluid inside the ball. I became worried and immediately put him back in his cage and closed his gate. He's still very active 5 minutes later and is still trying to get out. Is he going to be okay or do I need to take him to a doctor? We went back to the store to ask them and they said the hamster was urinating pink fluid because of the food pellets we gave him (Rigalettes). That's probably why he kept trying to get out after I put him inside his cage, because there wasn't anything wrong. moreResolved Question: Help revise my speech?
2 am, eyes shoot open, feet hit the floor in a matter of seconds. My stomach has taken over my brain, and he's hungry. I make my way to the kitchen, grab a bowl and fill it to the rim with classic frosted flakes. He growls at me impatiently so I grab my spoon and pick up the pace. I open the fridge and reach for the milk. As i lift it off the shelf my heart falls in defeat, it happened again, the gallon is almost completely empty. I screw off the top and tip the milk jug. Barely a spoonful of milk rolls into my bowl. This is my biggest pet peeve. When someone leaves a miniscule swallow of milk in a gallon in the fridge is the worst because nobody wants it and it leaves you with unfinished business . First, I hate when someone leaves barely a taste of milk in the gallon because nobody wants it. If you think to check it before you begin and see there is a microscopic amount of milk left you don't really know what to do with it. Do you pour it down the drain? Do you tease your tongue with the ghost of a taste? Before you can even think to answer, you instinctly put the jug down and close the fridge door and begin the hunt for something else to eat and so the cycle begins Second, I hate when someone leaves a milk jug 99% empty because it leaves you unfinished with whatever you had originally been trying to do. Cereal is the worst for me because once I decide I want cereal that's it. Its like I can feel it crunching in my mouth already, only to be let down by the almost empty milk carton. Or maybe you are making a recipe and you need a quarter cup of milk, but all that is left in the opaque gallon is a mere tablespoon. Now you have whatever you started only half done, and either risk changing the recipe, wasting the food, or dropping everything you are doing for a quick run to the store. So, to conclude, I hate when someone leaves a teeny amount of milk in a Gallon jug in the fridge because nobody wants anything to do with it, and it leaves you with unfinished business. So, make a change in your home, for the sake of you and your stomach, don't put the milk gallon back in the fridge when there is only a puny amount of milk left! moreResolved Question: I WANT TO SUE THEM !! After over a year and a half of thinking, my husband and I have officially decided we are going to start a business. We are going to open a small, local pet store. He has his masters degree in business administration/management and a minor in marketing, so we've got that covered and he knows a lot about the process. However, he is working a lot right now while I stay home with our one year old and go to school. While I am home, I want to start doing some research on CA laws and regulations and requirements to start/run a business. I want to know about state/county codes, insurance, suppliers, taxes, etc... I just don't know where to start or where to look. Is there any kind of "ABC-123" website or class to help me get started? She doesn't do anything at night, she works for a bank and i dont understand why she is so darn tired all the time. I work 7-4 then go in at my part time job 5-11 everyday for the past 3 weeks. I need help with laundry and maybe making me some food to take to work so we arent blowing money on take out all the time. I mean I get home everynight praying that my house would maybe be cleaned up or some sort of effort that things were starting to get organized, I have people who come over for business purposes every once in awhile and my her sisters drop in. I dont want my place to look so darn cluttered and messed up. I get stressed out in the morning because I have to get up at 6am(even though I dont get home until 11:45) so I get no sleep, when I get home my work cloths are still in the hamper and she knows I dont have any other ones. So I had to throw them in the wash last night and today Im wearing damp work cloths. Its not like I ask a lot of her and I love her to death. I may be a little of a neat freak but hey you know what, I am proud of the nice things I have and the nice home I have, why trash it, I want to be able to get a call from somebody and say they are stopping by and my place not looking a disaster. I want to start by working in a pet store and doing shelter work while saving up as much money as possible. After that I would like to buy as much land as I can and build a house on one end of the land and an animal shelter on the majority of the land. I know I will have to get a business license. I want to rescue and rehabilitate animals of all sorts, more particularly dogs that bred/raised to fight. My pitty-rotty cross Bran sen was the meanest puppy ever when I took him from the girl who was misstreating him and looking for a buyer, he was bred for a fight dog but sold to her for 1/3 of the prbecauseuase he was too small and sick to be anything but a bait dog. He went from growling, hiding, puking and biting to being sweat esttest thing ever. He is now great with children, cats, birds, rats, and other dogs. There are many examples of dogs that have been rehabilitated, people say that is a very rare thing. And it is; but not because of the dogs, because of the fear people have of giving them a chance as friends. Do they honestly think that no one can tell the difference between a highly trained service dog and an untrained, badly behaved, unhousebroken dog? Do they not realize that by taking their poorly trained dog in public, they make access harder for real service dog teams, because business owners start to be afraid that real service dogs will poop and pee in their stores or bite their customers? Do they not realize that by taking their anxious, fearful, or aggressive dogs in public, they stress the dogs and endanger others, and that they are responsible for any damage their dogs do? Do they not realize that they are violating Federal law, and, often, state law by trying to pass these dogs off as service dogs? I can't imagine taking a dog that wasn't trained and proofed for public access out into stores and other public places. It seems to me that this would just make the outing more stressful from having to try to control the dog. I really am curious as to why people would do this. Any ideas?Business owners are legally allowed to exclude service dogs that are disruptive or dangerous, yet many of them seem to be afraid to exercise their legal right.Gracie, Under Federal law, service dogs are not required to be registered or certified, only trained to assist their disabled handlers. The questions you can ask are "Are you disabled?", "Is that a service dog required for your disability?" and "What tasks is the dog trained to do?" moreResolved Question: How can i start my business?
I want to start a small business with an online store then expand it to a local pet shop. I would sell fish online and i can get the site all ready, but i need to find a vendor to supply the fish and a way to advertise. If you could tell me or give me a site that gives me all the info that would be great. moreResolved Question: Starting up a business as a teenager?
Hi. I am 14 and I would really like to set up my own business, I don't, however, mean a business as in dog walking, baby sitting etc. But I mean some sort of professional business. I was thinking of a pet store or some sort of pet retailer. I would be grateful for advice on how to start it up. Does it sound too far fetched? Thanks moreResolved Question: I am looking for a website? Please Help!?
I am looking for a website that is linked to Disney.com, it is an entrepreneur game for kids that teaches them about starting and owning a business. There is choices like Pet Salon, Comic Book Store, Lawn Treatment, and others. There is a male and female host of the game, they are cartoons as the rest of the game is too. Thank-you! If you need any other information, please ask! Thanks!!! moreResolved Question: What to name my pet business...?
Hello everyone, I plan to start a pet business within the next couple months, I am working on all the intial things that need done right now. I'm stuck on what to name my business. My plan for this business is to do everything concerning pets. Right now I have to work a full time job so I'm just going to be doing things that I can do in my spare time for right now, such as a dog bakery, selling products (collars, leashes, toys), A service that I'm going to provide right now is dog waste cleanup/removal. Eventually once I can quit my day job, I'm going to do dog walking, etc. And maybe even further down the road I will have a pet store, who knows. Anyway, I want this to be a real business.. I'm 29 years old, have a college degree under my belt, so I am very able to make this a profitable business. I know alot about marketing and business startup. What could I name my business? I want a name that I can start with and keep in the long run too, so I'm not looking to call it, Amanda Pet Sitting, or anything like that. I want the name of the business to be representative of a pet business but not necessarily say what I do because like I said, I want to do a vast array of things concerning pets. One name I thought of is iBark Pet Products and Services. iBark being what is unique to my business and then Pet Products and Services just saying that is the type of business I have. Anyone have any ideas? moreResolved Question: What are jobs/small companies where you can work independently or be your own boss?
I'm going to be a nurse..but I don't want to do it forever. People don't realize how insanely stressful it is..love it..but I am saving up my money to either a) open my own business or b) go get some other cert. or license to work on my own. If I can continue to make 70k per year..awesome..or even if I need to work up to it..but at least a job that has a 50k potential for me..I'd be willing to take the cut if it meant not having to work under any more horrendous women. LOL What are jobs where you can be your own boss? (preferably ones that make a halfway decent living) here are my ideas so far: a) realtor b) personal trainer c) cosmetologist d) massage therapist e) home daycare f) electrician g)plumber h) computer tech. (pretty much anything related to that :)) i small company ideas i can start: a) tanning salon b) catering c) anything food related d) online clothing/make up girly sort of store haha :) e) pet shop f) bakery/cafe shop g) salon owner (i set the price and rent it out) h) dance studio i) car sales ( i can open a tiny lot and get licensed) j) bed & breakfast :-) k Please add to the lists! Am I missing anything? All the people that I know that work on their own are nannies, computer techs, personal trainers, realtors, massage therapists, etc. MORE? moreVoting Question: What kind of business is "easy" to start up on your own?
SCENARIO: I put "easy" in quotes because I know that anything that is worth something isn't going to be a piece of cake. Basically, I have saved up and I have 100k to invest in a conservative type of business. I have my associates in Nursing and make a decent penny...around 70k per year...but believe me, I work HARD for it. I have always known that I want to be my own boss, and I do have the energy, motivation, will, and ambition to start my own company. I'm NOT focusing on "getting rich"...if that happens..it will happen with the more hard work I put in. What I want to do is get ideas for businesses that I can bring a reasonable amount of income in . I don't plan on taking out ANY loans. I have 100k set aside solely for starting up this business...and I just want it to be something that can reasonably generate 40-60k per year to start. I'm willing to build myself up. Any ideas? I love singing, dancing, animals, the elderly, cooking, cleaning, organizing, gardening, etc. I mean, the business doesn't have to be related to this...and to be honest, a lot of the things I like to do don't seem to directly be worth making any money from LOL. I mean yes, I could open a pet grooming store, a restaurant, a flower shop...but those are so common and TONS of work for very little money. IDK...........? HELP :)? What are your ideas? I was even thinking of a gym or tanning salon. I live in NYC but I'm probably moving back to my hometown of San Diego.... moreResolved Question: I need help on whether to stay where I am or switch venues for my dog grooming business?? please help!!?
I'm a pet groomer in a small town in Colorado. I just moved here not to long ago and right now I'm working out of a store, that before me was just a self service wash and pet supplies. I pay her 40%,of what whatever i make with my grooming, for using her tubs, shampoos, and dryers. I can groom before, after and during store hours. people call me for appointments and we both keep track of what i make and what I've payed her. She has changed all her adds to say that she now offers full-service grooming. But i have just got an offer to be the groomer in a new kennel and training place. the lady who is starting it is an amazing trainer who has some existing ideas. She loves me and the way i handle the animals and care for them and she told me that she would have a room in her building just for me. with all the tables and tubs and dryers that i want! and she will let me study under her as a trainer and that some day she will get me certified as a dog trainer. i love animals and this is a dream for me. but the lady I'm grooming for right now is nice and we've become friends and i feel bad that she is changing her adds. but her adds do not say my name on them. we do not have a contract or anything. and she has kinda been pushy when it comes to my scheduling and pricing. she wants me to charge more and over book myself. she doesn't come right out and say that but that's how it makes me feel. what should i do?? and if i do switch places how do i tell the lady I'm working with right now?? any advice would help thank you. moreResolved Question: I need help on whether to stay where I am or switch venues for my grooming business?? please help!!?

TONS OF ?S! What food, harnes or collar, yogurt/cottage cheese in his food? PLZ HELP!!?
Ok so I'll be getting my baby this weekend. I did tons of research b4 getting him and found what I thought was a great breeder, (had great references & satisfied customers & beautiful healthy looking pups in the past & has been in business for years). Well come to find out they're feeding (and have been feeding his parents n every1 else) Puppy Chow! I KNOW I KNOW!!! Its crap in a bag, horrible food I KNOW THIS! And I know I should have asked what kind of food they fed them! So I will be changing his food, I know I have to keep on giving him what he's been eating and gradually change it, however I've heard over a weeks time period or 2 weeks? Which one and how so? I was thinking 25% new w/75% old and bump it up by 25% as the days pass till its all his new food? I was also thinking Royal Canin, I heard that they use fillers and it isnt such a great food as its hyped up to be! A pet store employee told my friend that it was great and she uses it for both of her bullies and its the best thing since sliced bread! Also, I've heard that pups need 2 get used 2 their collars so start off right away, then I heard bulldogs have to wear a harness cause their neck will get hurt with a collar and bla bla bla, what do guys think/know from experience? And I've heard for a healthy and bright coat put an egg every other day and a tablespoon of yogurt or cottage cheese in his food? Idk about that one! Is so, how soon, right away? Since I'm sure his breeder isn't doing that now? And anyone use vitamins or supplements? I found some that were sooo great according to http://www.champbulldogs.com/care.htm, they also reccomend California Naturals but I've heard there are better foods out there and I really want him to have the best he can possibly have. And last thing, what books would you guys recomend? I have read reviews saying that the bulldog for dummies was more of a book for all breeds and only touched a few details on the EBD. I've done all my research online and thru the bulldog club I've joined, (via email). Oh and one more thing, is it safe for him to go to other houses? Like when I go to a buddys house can he come? Just like on the weekends, and how old does he have to be before he can go for walks and to the dog park? ***QUICK SUMMARY*** 1.) WHAT FOOD/HOW DO I CHANGE IT PORTION WISE? 2.) HARNES OR COLLAR? 3.)YOGURT/COTTAGE CHEESE IN HIS FOOD OR VITAMINS/SUPPLEMENTS WHERE CAN I BUY & HOW SOON CAN HE START TAKING THEM? 4.)BOOKS HAD SO/SO REVIEWS ON BULLDOGS FOR DUMMIES 5.) CAN HE VISIT OTHER HOMES/HOW OLD B4 WE CAN GO FOR HIS DAILY WALKS/ TO THE DOG PARK? THANKS GUYS!! I APOLOGIZE FOR THE 8 MILE ESSAY, I TRULY JUST WANT TO BE A GREAT FATHER FOR MY BABY AND WANT AS MUCH ACCURATE INFO FROM EXPERIENCED PEOPLE THAT KNOW! PLEASE KEEP ALL YOUR IGNORANT UNNECESSARY LECTURES/STATEMENTS TO YOURSELF! DONT WASTE MY & YOUR TIME! THANKS AND HAVE A BLESSED DAY! moreTop Starting A Pet Store Business Links
