New Brunswick rising

As Alberta has found with its 10% personal tax rate, many businesses located high-skilled workers to the province to take advantage of the favourable tax regime.

The corporate tax reforms are equally exciting. The best part is the reduction of the existing 13% general rate to the small business rate of 5%, with some phasing-out of targeted tax credits. Not only will this boost investment (New Brunswick will have the lowest corporate income tax rate in Canada), it will also reduce the tax penalty on successful businesses which become larger. The other, less exciting, options include 7% and 10% corporate rates, with the latter bringing the province in line with others rather than creating a significant advantage.

With the right reforms, New Brunswick could become a provincial tax haven for many businesses wishing to shift their high tax income out of provinces like Ontario and Nova Scotia. more

4 years after Hurricane Charley, Fla. residents fight insurer

The homeowners say they can't repair their homes properly because their insurance company, United Casualty Insurance Company of America, didn't reimburse them adequately after the storm. Forty-eight have sued, seeking higher payments to fix their homes before another storm strikes.

Most are poor, black longtime residents who maintained policies for between $20,000 and $50,000 to protect their dwellings and possessions. Some said they paid premiums for decades, but received checks after Charley that were significantly lower, ranging from about $3,500 to about $10,000.

United denies wrongdoing and said it is cooperating with court-ordered appraisals of the properties. "We paid what we thought was a fair amount," said John Camillo, United's vice president. He said if the appraisals determine United owes more money, "we'll pay it."

I have a 2 year old yorkie. We've just moved from a large house w/ hard floors into an apartment with carpet. He's never lived with carpeting before & that transition was harder for him than i thought. He really loved our old house...i could let him out freely bc it was in the country & watch him from the window while he did his business & came back to the door. A big mistake i made from birth was to let him roam around the house freely during the day while we were gone. Now, since we have carpet...i'm having him stay in the guest bathroom during the day. It's a very large bathroom w/ a linen closet. I put his food & water in this closet next to a little bed for him...he likes that area a lot. The rest of the bathroom is for him to play with toys or potty...but this is the part that goes wrong. He's gone into the cabinets (which i'm getting baby proofers for) and taken everything out. Gotten into medicine & shredded up toilet paper. He's just tried to destroy everything possible. Now he's started gnawing on the door frame & ripping wallpaper. I'll be putting a baby gate up instead of closing the door so that he feels connected to the rest of the place. Also i'm getting a radio to put on during the day so he doesn't feel alone. Is there anything else I can do to make him more comfy? He's not alone for long. Only about 8 hours at a time...which i'd think is the usual for any working class household. Happy New Year to everyone. Today I want to ask you whether he is stingy or I am wrong. Judge it, please. Any opinion is welcome, as long as they have good heart to answer. Sorry in advance, I am not English speaker, so it may not be good English. (My boyfriend is Canadian, middle 30's. He has his own business, always busy traveling. I met him in 2008 late May.When we go out together, he pays all.) I feel he is stingy. For example when he calls me, he will hang up the phone intentionally and lead me to call him back. Some are after 7,8 seconds talk and hang up suddenly, others are like one-ring and hang up before I answer. Even after I told him to stop that, he continued. Such things often happened. That's why I sometimes don't like to pick up his call, it makes me feel bad. Then it's better to call him than pick up calls. Another example, now I live in a kind of guest house (like dormitory). No man admitted to enter even brothers. Oh I must explain this first. We planned to buy an apartment with a view to marriage in the first place, it was in late April 2009. He said he will get one in cash as long as the price is within a set budget. That’s why I contacted a real estate agency, visited 8 apartments while he was in abroad to secure the fund for it. Unfortunately he never came back… He had postponed return date 4,5times even though he said each time “Please believe me this is final”. After several delay, he said he invested most of his earnings in business, so we must wait till get funds again. It was maybe late October or early November. Then I suggested to him to rent an apartment for now, to start living together and get married. You know, money is the first consideration to do something in real life. So I told him to send money first for securing apartment, then he started worrying about deposit and key money. Of course I must avoid unnecessary expenses, so I was looking for one with no key money and refundable security deposit. Anyway he didn’t send money eventually, even after I found “No key money, No deposit” apartment. It makes great sense to think he is not interested in living together and marriage. What’s worse is that he started to say he will stay at my place in secret! I told him that I can’t do that, you can’t come, because I don’t want to break rules and cause a thing, so if we live together, we should make a contract for 2 in another place. Then he said “That’s bullshit”, cursed at me and hung up the phone. I was speechless. If he’s a student, I can understand his remarks a little bit. Why can middle-aged man say that? The upshot is that he won’t come to Tokyo unless I all prepare the apartment for two. I can’t help thinking he just expects a free ride, doesn’t want to spend money. On the other hand, he keeps saying that man is meant to take proper care and responsibility of his spouse all the time, also keep saying that his dream is to live together as soon as possible to start enjoying best marriage and family life with me. (Almost copy and paste) What is responsibility, what is proper care? Marriage is not play house. Of course there are various types of marriage these days, But I am a quite typical and conservative Japanese-minded person. I told him, I want to be a housewife after marriage. In my view, it is husband’s obligation to take care of wife and children both mentally and financially. We formed a consensus through discussions when I met him in Bangkok in mid-September. He has been saying that he’ll do when the time is right. One year has passed. Time is now. If someone doesn’t do it now, someone never will. Honestly, I don’t know what he really wants to do with me. If he needs time to stay single or time to work alone as in past years, I can give him, it doesn’t matter at all. The problem is this. He has been always about to do, but has never yet begun it. He’s all mouth. To my regret I fully believed his words. If I were man who’s thinking about marriage, I will introduce her to my family first, buy or rent an apartment within few months at the latest, also set the date for wedding. So, I can’t see any effort or forms of love nor seriousness from him. How is my opinion very different from your countries ladies one? Let me know. Thanks for reading. more

Resolved Question: Should I tell my brother that I suspect our step brother?

and his new girlfriend are doing something behind his back. Don't know what for sure but he has been coming over late. As a favor I let my brothers girlfriend stay in our two bedroom mother in law back house. One of my employer has been staying in one of the bedrooms because of hard times. Maria told me she seen Spencer sneaking out of the house as she was walking from our house. (Maria and I are caterers and work late nights cooking baking etc.) My step brother does not like me and quite frankly has been starting a lot of trash talking because I have had my personal issues with Nicky for dressing very very sexy. When my brother asked me to let Nicky work for me I said in my head no way. She has been working for my dad for a short time and got in a actual fight with a co worker for flirting issues with the other young ladies husband) My father let both go. Poor other lady...I have recently started our little business and had to draw the line on hiring Nicky fearing her ruining any reputation We have with our regular clients. And for one she cant cook. He said I could teach her. My brother served our country and we tend to baby him because he has lost a friend. My brother is in a set up housing (paid for by my father) near his therapy center. He has a contract that does not allow others to stay there other then a visit for 2 days or so. Kev calls me upset that Nicky got fired (personally not surprised of the reason) and now all of a sudden now she has to move out of her room mates place and needs a job etc. Dumb me suggested she my stay with Maria for a few months, but soon as she gets a job she must move out. I said it in a nicer waty though. In person I let Nicky know that Maria had allergies to chemicals ... perfume hairsprays, harsh cleaners couldnt be used in the home. Products needed to be all natural green etc. Its been 2 days and Nicky uses harsh bleach and Powder soap perfume galore etc. I didnt bother telling her no late night boy visits or over night guests because I figued it would be only Kevin visiting etc. Now my step brother sneaking out.This morning I called (didn't accuse at all) and asked Spence you should of popped in and said hi last night. He acted all rude and said that dirty mexican is seeing things. Before Nicky has said why do you give Teressa, Lupe (meaning Maria) or whatever her name is name brand gifts for Christmas what use would someone like her get from great things like that. I feel sick to my stomach for this big mistake. I thought I would please everyone by helping Nicole because I been accused of hating her and being jealous. I thought of ways to help her get on her feet but I cant help her get a job because I feel she would not be a benefit to any company. I dont know what to do. My mom and I moved in my grandmother's 3 bedroom one story house. All females. My grandmother, my mom and my aunt. I'm the only male (mid-teens). When we moved in my mom took the guest bedroom and said i'll be sleeping with my grandmother. One night my grandmother was coming to bed and started changing. She became topless until she put on a shirt. I didnt feel uncomfortable I just didnt see it coming. I just continued watching the tv. The same morning I got up and took a shower. Our bathroom is a walk-in connected to the room(real big). When I was finished I stepped out the tub and starting drying myself. I didnt notice my grandmother walking into the walkway until she pass in front of me going to clean the the bathroom sink. She pretty much saw everything but she just minded her own business, like i did when she was changing. Right their i felt if she was comfortable and so was I, then just continue what i was doing. She is my grandmother. I felt no shame in it. However here's the twist, if this was my mom, I would feel very ashamed. Do you think this modesty is strange? Im comfortable with my body in front of my grandmother but not with my mother. And for those people who have dirty minds. This has nothing to do with me looking at my grandmother or she looking at me in any disturbing manner. We dont pay attention to each others nudity. It is basically like the parties where someone dies and a party guest must figure it out. Ok, it will be in a tourist city such as Miami, Las Vegas, ect... Anyway, it is where you come in and pay $15 dollars for one game that lasts about 2 and a half hours, OR $45 dollars for the overnight game(without food, $60 for food and ticket) that starts at 8 and ends at 8 the next morning. Someone gives you two cards, one to reveal to others, and one to keep to yourself. They then move you into a waiting room where you mingle with others. The first reveal card tells you who your character is. You are to tell it to others as you mingle with them. Your conceal card tells you who you really don't like and really do like and why you don't or do. When there are 16 people in the waiting room, you are moved into the castle-like house where the game will happen. The host then comes in, welcomes everyone, tells everyone to enjoy the party and leaves. As people continue to mingle, the host passes out the next group of cards. There are again two: conceal and reveal. The conceal will tell most people to stay alert, but it will tell few to do something that will start the game. The game goes like this with 5 rounds of cards being passed out(in a regular game, 10 in a nightlong game) until at the end everyone meets in the kitchen to make their guesses. The host then reveals the true killer/wrong-doer. more

I'm 20 years old lady. I started working at target a year ago. main reason was, wanted to get experience. I always gave to my mother more than half-money I earned. I Couldn't think about saving , ignoring that she need to pay bills to support us, we were moving to a new house. (she have section 8) I'm a college student, tap and fafsa pay my tuition, they also give me work-study. Last year per semester they gave me $2,300 for my expenses.( Money I used to buy my bedroom furniture) my scheduled at target was from 3:15 to 12:00 AM so my GPA start to fall. In one of my classes I Prefer F Instead of a D- but kill my GPA completely because I have to wait for this semester to re take the class.So I hang-up n probation.Though I have work-study I decided to come back to target, why? I love target! I love to help ppl! My mom was pushing me so much, shes the kind of person that have to see someone killing themselves to believe they are doing something in life. . I understood those days when she felt on pressure paying bills & is not easy to support two kids working-herself.But she can't expect me to work this routing schedule while going to college for a better future. The reason why I don't work more hrs on target its because I'm dependent and if I work more than $3,000 a year it would affect Section 8 but in the other hand I'm loosing $6,500 just to study and do well at college. I tried explain that not because she needed to work that way I have to waste this opportunity live is giving to me. The more I think about it the more I like it. Let's divide the US into Liberals and Conservatives. We've become like a party of hikers stranded on a mountain slope. Half want to stay put and wait for rescue, and the other half want to get as far back down the slope as they can. Both sides could be right, both are willing to stake their lives on their ideas, and both are ready to kill the other side for resisting what must be done. So, let's split up. The Liberals get the Northeast and both coasts: the blue states. If we get all the blue states from 2008, that includes New Mexico, Colorado, and Florida. Also, Hawaii. I'd throw in Florida for the Conservatives just to sweeten the pot. I suggest we name ourselves the Social Democratic States of America. The SDSA. The Conservatives get the big center of the country and the gulf coast states. And Alaska. I suggest you call yourselves the Christian Confederation of America. The CCA. During the partition there will be some messy splits, and a lot of dramatic exoduses and ethnic cleansing. Most of the city of Austin will be Liberals trapped far behind enemy lines, in the very Capital city of the Christian Confederacy! They will have to evacuate to North Carolina. Conversely, the entire population of Western Michigan will have to make a run for Missouri. A lot of Wall Street guys will be flying their private jets one - way to Dallas, while a lot of Liberal millionaires will say goodbye to their Montana ranches forever. We have to split the federal debt and each pay off half, because both Rep. and Dems have borrowed all that money. Right now national debt is 12.9 trillion. A little less than half of that added up during the administration of Pres. George W. Bush (sorry, just had to point it out). The Christian Confederation will eliminate income and business taxes, but they still have to find a way to pay back $6.5 trillion without that revenue. Take State revenues in Texas, the capital of the CCA. They make $21 million a year in sales tax and $26 million in income tax. Without income, sales tax will go to around 20%. Then, to pay make their federal debt payments, they may have to double that, maybe to 40% sales tax. Also, a lot of that is Social Security, which red - staters have been paying all their lives. I am currently seeing a married man who had separated from the wife before we met. He told me the truth from the start and we had a beautiful friendship. My gut at the time told me to give him a chance, after all, he was the sweetest guy I had met he spent time with me, did good things to me, introduced me to all his friends, who like me, told his ex and even his mother that he had met someone else. I was touched by his ability to feel. The way he expressed the hurt from the separation from the wife made me think that he was a genuine guy. One day he even asked me, "where have you been all my life? Why did I have to spend so much time with some one else and not you?" I felt he appreciated me. He had a twin who died suddenly after a night out on 17th Dec 2006. He told me that was a hard blow to him that left him with very little in life to look forward to. He even stopped looking after his business. One day he told me that his ex had suspected him of cheating prior to her leaving him 6 months before we met. When I asked him whether he had done it, he confessed that he had. One day he told me that he had gotten another woman pregnant and had hoped to adopt the child since the ex had had 2 premature deaths- girls and it seemed that they could not get their own kids. Unfortunately this other woman decided to have an abortion. When we started seeing each other, we used to have sex every day but after 4 or 5 months, this ended abruptly when I one day joked that I wanted to take a break from the pill. I thought everything was fine between us until I went for a 3 week holiday out of the country after quitting an unfulfilling job. He rarely called me despite having my new number. I am the one who used to call him everyday. He would tell me that he would call, but most times he didn't. I chose to ignore it. One day I called him and he told me that something had happened and he was really sad but could not tell me what it was. He would tell me when I got back home. When it was time to come back home, I asked him to come pick me up from the airport. I thought he had agreed. When I landed, I called him only to find out he was still at home!!! I was so annoyed when I got home as I had to catch a cab! It was hard to even give him a hug! Then I found he had bought me some bangles... He has never bought me a gift before! I immediately thought he bought the bangles to apologize for something... After two days, he told me that the reason why he had been down was because auctioneers has been to our home and took property to recover rent overdue for 2 months! I flipped! Part of the property was my stuff that I had moved in with! The property had since been returned by the time I was back. I was on my periods so we did not have sex. It's been two months since my trip and we have had sex only twice. After one week of being back, his mother died of a rare form of cancer. I did all I could to support him ( i lost mine when I was 11 years). His ex came for the funeral but the disconnect between them was rather evident to all. Then last week she called him and went off on him! She felt humiliated that I was at the funeral and over the roof when she found out that I had moved in with him! He seemed keen to find the mole that had told her but he couldn't close in on any one person. I told him there's no point since all his friends and siblings know. It could be anyone. It's not a secret. He told me of a lady friend he met while I was away through a male friend of his.I even met her at his mum's funeral and we exchanged numbers. I am currently seeing a married man who had separated from the wife before we met. He told me the truth from the start and we had a beautiful friendship. My gut at the time told me to give him a chance, after all, he was the sweetest guy I had met he spent time with me, did good things to me, introduced me to all his friends, who like me, told his ex and even his mother that he had met someone else. ok i'm still knew at this kitten business and I live in an apt, and the kitten was pretty young like 6 weeks when my son who stopped at a friends house for a couple of beers after work, came home and brought with him a present for me, the "Kitten" YEAH!!!! he was like I was going to bring you a couple but here's this one,,,well I was in shock, probably still am, but were making it work and god bless her she couldn't be more sweeter, however, I put the liter box in the dinning room, ( I live alone ) and in fact the dinning room has kinda been my office, it's an open apt , ya know where the living room , dinning room and kitchen are all open in here and then a bathroom and then there's the bedroom with a huge walk in closet and then another normal closet behind there,,,,( now that I've given you the layout of my apt) see I put the liter box where I could see her and ya know make sure she was going in it...and she hasn't really been in the bedroom that much, I'm recovering from surgery and sleep out here in the living room,, (THANKS FOR YOU PATIENCE SO FAR ) so it would be ideal for me to move the liter box back into one of the closets there very clean and organized etc....but I tried to do it like last week and she went in it when I picked her up because I saw her sniffing around then I sat her in it and she went well then I went back there later and there was poop on the floor but not in the liter box, and the weird thing was is it was pretty close about a foot away....so I don't know if she was just confused etc,.,,,,so does anyone after reading my novel here know how I can make the transfer to the back closet???? So, my mum has been acting like, well, not very nicely. We've never REALLY gotten along for more than a month. I'm nineteen and currently doing a Cert 4 in Youth Work, a Diploma in Christian Ministry and an Internship at my church, all at the same time. I am also engaged. I spend hardly any time at home because I'm currently busy. Anyway, tonight I was doing something for a camp that I'm leading on the weekend and my mum comes up to me and says 'I need your laptop now.' By my laptop, its my fiancee's and my laptop that was bought with OUR money. I said to her, 'You cant just demand to use my laptop.' And then she started screaming about how it was for her business and she needs to use it because .. I don't even know, but she was screaming. I replied 'I don't care whether you use it but you cant just say that you are going to take it. You need to ask.' She replied with, 'You do F*$# all! All you do is sit on that laptop and you never empty the recyling bin!' - so to be honest I was sitting there going - the recylcing bin, what does that have to do with anything?- but whatever. She continued going on about how I lack all sense of responsibility and don't care about anyone but myself. As she was saying this I was logging of the laptop to sign in to the guest for her. And then she says 'Don't even worry about it, you selfish little cow!!' Anyway, so I was in tears and called my fiancee and I was whispering about what happened and she was in her room but suddenly she comes to me and starts screaming; "You have no right to whinge about what I said to you!' etc, etc. Which is slightly ironic because when I came home this afternoon I got to listen to her bitch about me to my grandma for a good 15 minutes before she realised I was there. Also, I hate that she calls me irresponsible and selfish when I spend atleast 12 hours a week volunteering as part of my internship and I'm completing two different courses as well as maintaining friendships and my relationship. And even then I plan to get a job, but we would like to money to go towards saving for a house. Resolved Question: Rescued dog's behaviour has become worse, what do I do?

I rescued a German Shepherd cross from a house where it had been tied up since being a puppy. She was a year and a half old. We have had her for six weeks. To begin with she was pretty good and we rewarded her good behavior but in the last week she has started finding hidden places in the house to do her business, refusing to eat her food every morning but digging holes under the fence to get into the garbage of next door and will not be disciplined with a stern no. She was so timid to begin with and we were encouraging and loving but now we can't stop her jumping up. We taught her to sit and lie down using rewards but she won't show any of these behaviours unless the rewards are 'sniffed'. I'm not sure what to do. I walk her and walk her, she has a big yard to run in, I have reinforced the whole fence but she now digs holes under it to get out. Whenever men come to the house she is so vicious and she actually bit one of our guests even though he was with his wife and child whom she ignored. I can't have her in the house when there are people as she just barks and barks, especially if there are men. The first time we turned on the TV she nearly went crazy every time there was a man's voice. I just don't know what to do. I am at a loss to know where to begin or if there is hope for her. more

My boyfriend and I are going through a rough patch... I was laid off, and my boyfriend and his father have a company together. The business is going slow, and he has not collected a paycheck in about 3 months. Voting Question: Help! My 5 yr old cat is peeing and pooping on the floor?

My fiance and I purchased a home and moved in January of this year. Our two cats Stella (8yrs old) and Miss Kitty (5yrs old) had met and spent time together before the move. After the move, Miss Kitty occasionally pooped outside the box, but it was right in front of the box. In June of this year we adopted a Great Pyrenese (110 lb dog). The dog only stays on the first floor of the house. The cats litter box is in the basement (for stink reasons, non burried poo). So the cats like to stay on the second floor so they don't have to encounter the dog. Miss Kitty started pooping and peeing on the guest bed (second floor). We locked her out of that room. Then for two weeks, she goes up and down the stairs on her own to poop and pee. Two weeks later we open that room back up and she does it again. We've totally locked her out of that bedroom. The other day she pooped and pee'd on the hardwood floor. When she is locked out, she will go up and down the stairs to do her business. As soon as we open up part of the house, she poops there again. Our cat has taken over our home. We have all the doors on the 2nd floor closed to prevent her from pooping and peeing somewhere. Making it worse is that this punishes the cat that is being good. We are at our whits end, any help is appreciated!! more

Okay so I am getting married in 3 weeks. My fiance and I have a 15 month old son and we have had some problems....he lost his job in January. But we have been getting back on track, paying all our bills, he started a business, things are looking up for us. As hard as it was, we decided not to spend money on a wedding because there are so many things we really NEED and we decided the only important thing is that we are married. We will be outside, so we won't actually be in his house. There will be no guests, no dress, no flowers, no music, no sermon, no communion. All we want is to say the vows and for him to say a prayer with us afterward. So he tells us that he usually charges $400 and he will charge us $200. On one hand, it sounds like a fair price, on the other hand, we are taking up less than an hour of his time, he doesn't have to travel anywhere, and the bed we need to buy for our son costs a little more than that. Is there more work than I am thinking to his performing this wedding? Is it really a fair price? Resolved Question: How can i avoid or circumvent The no sublet clause in my rental agreement?

I live in a rent- stabalized month 2 month léase apartment. I'd like 2 have someone stay in it while I'm out Of town for The NeXT 10 months. However my landlord doesn't allow sublets. If i have an extended "house guest" - wink wink- who gives me cash on the side can i still be evicted or get into trouble? Is there a way to avoid or circumvent The no sublet clause in my rental agreement? Plus The apt léase also stipulates i can't live with anyone in my studio. Still if I have several "guests" or "friends" staying there throughout the Time I'm away might there be someway to make ot work? I'm going 2 be starting a new profession which would make me an independent contractor & I won't have The payroll salary which comes with a traditional Job. So giving up The apt could potentially leave me in a vulnerable position in getting a new rental apt.! I expect i will have money, substantial savings ( maybe equivalent 2 a years rent) and good crédit score however at this moment I'm not sure about having a guarantor in place. Hi guys! This is a bit of a long one but I really hope you can give me some advice. I know it's hard when you don't know the ins and outs of my life but I'd really appreciate it. Looked all over Yahoo answers and cannot find a question that's similar to mine so I thought I'd ask. :-) Until my wedding day, my MIL had been nice to me. Her and my husband's family didn't even believe we were going to get married until about a month before the wedding. My husband and his family are incredibly religious and I am not at all. I will listen to other people's opinions and respect them but I don't believe and neither does my family. I would go and visit them with my husband and they will always be speaking about God and watching religious TV channels and I will sit there and listen. They are so religious that they have decided to leave their church and build their own, with my husband's other two brothers and wifes - who of all have the same mentality. The other two brothers and their wifes are always doing stuff with my parents in law. None of them had moved out of home until they were married so they practically still live at my In-laws house. Well, I wanted a small wedding, Ideally flying away somewhere and being just the two of us and some friends, but his family could not have that. They invited around 30 people and I only had 6 guests and we had to do it locally. Both his parents and ourselves spent a fortune on his brothers weddings and they put a very small fraction of that towards ours. But finally the wedding arrived and when I got to the ceremony they had pretty much changed everything. His cousin had decided that her daughter would be the flower girl without consulting me. We had decided on a civil service. When I had suggested to my husband that we add a poetry in the service he said we couldn't do that. But when I arrived to the wedding his parents had brought along a priest who celebrated an entire religious service - WITHOUT asking me. My parents and friends were extremely surprised and uncomfortable with this. The priest even said "a civil service doesn't matter as the only wedding that matters is one under the eyes of god".... Well, would have been nice if he'd asked me if that was what I thought!! Needless to say that they changed the reception too and were rude to my friends. We had no money for a photographer or video so we asked my husband's family to do it - they did but it's been 4 months now and I haven't seen a single picture. The morning after the wedding my MIL called me at our hotel to tell me that my mother had been bad mouthing me to her and that she hoped this wasn't true. She then went on to say that she was telling me this for my own good. I decided it was best not to mention it and ruin our wedding memories and just forget about it. When we came back from our honeymoon she phoned me up to meet me to again tell me: not only that my mum was badmouthing me but that my mum didn't deserve to be with my dad, that my mum was jelous of my mum and was possessive, that if i didn't become a Christian it would never work out with her son.... But again, she "was only telling me all this so I could be closer to my mum"....WHAT? Yeah, say that my mum is insulting me will really help.... She then said that I was now part of HER family and we should come over more often because I couldn't cook and wasn't really a housewife type. After all these rude comments I decided to let my husband know. At first he said his mum had to apologize but after a conversation with her it all changed. He said my mum was a liar and that his mum was only trying to be nice to me. At this point I thought that we should just forget about and go about our lives but OH NO! His mum continued to go on about it and decided to involve the whole family. Now both his brothers, their wifes and his dad are "her witnesses" as she calls them and they will all say that my mum was slagging me off at my wedding. I told his mum that me and my hubbie now had our own family and that she should leave us alone with all her crap, that we just wanna get on with it. Her response was that I "Was never going to take her son away from her". My husband and I argued (severely) and I told him that he should be defending me because in my eyes, my husband should stick up for me and be on my side because we have our own family. I did start saying that his mum was crazy and why was she being so interfering, why didn't she mind her own business....Which was wrong of me but my hubbie reacted bad, very bad, and kicked me out the house. My husband ended up asking me to come back and I did but I told him that all this religion business and his parents could not interfere in my life. I told him I wasn't comfortable having a relationship with them and that after all that had happened I didn't want to go to his family's events (knowing they have all been talking behind my back). He said it was ok. A month later and we're back in the same spHi Guys, Thank you so much for taking the time to give me your opinions. Yes, I checked with my mum. At first I thought it would let it go but in the end I had to find out. My mum doesn't show her feelings much - I'm the complete opposite. When I asked her if she'd said all this stuff she actually started to cry because she couldn't believe I would think she would ever do that to me at my own wedding. She said she was so proud of me and believed in me so much that she would never say such things - even if it is out of own self pride! So, that's how I know she didn't say it. She would never ever cry unless she'd been hurt by something I'd done to her, which was to think she would be so cruel. My dad also had a word with me and said that he had nothing bad to say about me and that they'd had bad experiences with their own inlaws and would never dream of doing the same to their children. more

Resolved Question: How can I get my husband to start picking up after himself?

He leaves piles of mail and other stuff, papers mostly but also bills and records, on any flat surface in the house. The dining room table seems to be his favorite place to leave things, but he's also started a collection on the sofa, the coffee table, the floor next to the coffee table, and the basket next to the sofa. I eventually dump everything in a box, then he'll shuffle the box from one flat surface to another for a few months, all the while creating more accumulations. It's not that he has no place to keep this stuff. Most things just need to be filed or thrown out. He just doesn't take the time to do it, then it piles up more and becomes an even bigger job, so it continues to grow and get put off. I've tried having a designated area for his mail, but that lasted one day. If I toss everything onto the floor, that's where it stays, he doesn't notice it and then I've got to pick up the mess. It's getting so bad I don't want to have guests coming over and seeing all the clutter. I don't want to start fighting over this, but it's got to stop. I'm not going to just do it all myself - these are his personal or business items. Any suggestions? more

My friend and I know each other since kindergarten . we are like sisters and I have been in her house all my life . Her mother is divorced since 5 years ago and lives together with a young guy . He is only 6 years older them my girlfriend (she is 17) Her mom is very liberal and open-minded and I know she is very sex addicted , we talked of then about it my friend and I . But I all ways avoided to judge , its her Business , she all ways was nice to me. . Last month I slept over in my best friend's house, her mother and her 'step dad' went to bed a bit later . Resolved Question: Behavioral problems - Cat peeing and pooping on bed. Please Help!?

Okay, so I'm no newbie to animals, but I'm really at a tough spot. I've had my Cat for 10 years (she's about 11), and just over the last few months, she started peeing and pooping on the bed in her room (the guest room). I recently put plastic on the bed so when she does her business there at least I can clean it up. But here is the situation: 1) 11 year old cat, good health, has been checked by the vet. Is physically in good health (I question mentally, though). 2) Has her OWN ROOM where her bed, her litter box, and her food all are, which is separated from the rest of the house by a baby gate to keep the dogs out. 3) Nothing has changed in our house, we haven't moved in 5 years, we don't have anything or anyone new in our house. 4) Her litter box is clean; she still pees and poops on the bed even right after I've changed the litter. In all honesty, do you think it would be cruel to make her an outdoor cat? My husband and I just don't know what to do.Just a few updates: She's not declawed, in fact we have a dog door and she can go in and out as she pleases, but whenever she comes in (on her own) she does bad stuff on the bed. Oh, and also, I have 2 dogs so keeping litter boxes around the house is a little difficult because my little one likes to eat kitty poo. Thats partly the reason the litter box is behind a baby gate. more

Hi, I currently live in England with my boyfriend and dog. We live in a rural village in the ribble valley in north west England. I currently work in supply chain and my boyfriend is starting his own website design company. If we can ever afford it - we would love to move to rural Scotland, and have a house with land and seperate properties so I can follow my dreams, and my boyfriend to continue with his business. I would like to have a (or a few) holiday cottage(s) and have a small trekking centre, really just for the use of the holiday guests, so like a trekking holiday. I would also like enough land / barns to take in rescued animals - so maybe also run a small animal sanctury. Do you think I can achieve this or am I just dreaming? more

Andrew Denton – Darryl, welcome to our show Darryl Kerrigan – Thanks Andrew, it is great to be here Andrew Denton – Well to start off, tell me about yourself, I hear your pretty close with your family? Darryl Kerrigan – Well Andrew I am, my family and I spend a lot of time together. Every night my wife Sal cooks a really good meal and we sit down as a family and watch ‘Hey Hey It’s Saturday’ re-runs, we love that show. I have a lovely wife called Sal, three sons and a daughter. I have a great house in Coolaroo which I have spent a lot of time working on by adding extensions and patios. I also love going fishing with my son in Bonne Doon and I work as a tow truck driver. I have five greyhounds, they are a beauty and I keep them out the back of our house. Andrew Denton – So, tell me about what recently happened with you and your home? Darryl Kerrigan – Well, a few weeks back I got told my house was going to be taken away from me and my family to build a some bloody new airport. The government and authorities weren’t going to let me keep my home or let my neighbours keep their houses. It was sad telling our close neighbour’s that their houses were going to be knocked down as they have been living in the same spot we have for many years. I told em they're dreaming! Andrew Denton – So what did you decide to do next? Darryl Kerrigan – Well I took the government and authority people to court. I wasn’t going to let them take away my house or my neighbour’s houses. I knew it was going to be tough but I had a close friend, Dennis. He was a lawyer and was willing to lend me a hand. Andrew Denton – Sounds like you have some friendly mates. Now what exactly happened in court? Darryl Kerrigan – Well we lost our case the first time we went. Dennis tried really hard to try and win our case, but the government and authorities won fair and square. I couldn’t think how difficult it would be to tell my neighbours. But, that didn’t stop me; I wasn’t going to give up. Andrew Denton – Well what did you do after that? It must have made you less motivated, did it? Darryl Kerrigan – Nah, mate. Luckily I ran into a bloke outside called Lawrence and he offered to help me. He was a Queens Council and very important business man. He helped me find a reason to not let the government and authorities take away my house. He defended me in court and he won our case for us. I was over the moon. Andrew Denton – After you won this case, you quickly became famous and was seen in newspapers and on the news. How did you react to all this? Darryl Kerrigan – Oh I thought it was bloody great. I loved sharing what happened to me to the media, I was thrilled. My wife Sal was really proud of me and so were the rest of my family Andrew Denton – Sounds likes you’re someone who never gives up. Did your family support you while you were taking this to court? Darryl Kerrigan – Oh absolutely, my wife Sal supports me a lot. My sons help me out too with our home and also helping out our close neighbours. My neighbours were so glad to hear that they didn’t have to move out of their homes. I knew it would have been tough for them to move out just like we were. Andrew Denton – Now I hear you have another house up in Bonne Doon, when do you like to travel up there? Darryl Kerrigan – Well sometimes I go to Bonne Doon when I need a break from things like when I was in the middle of this court case. Usually my son and I will go and stay there a few nights to go fishing in our fishing boat we normally keep at our house in Coolaroo. Resolved Question: In-laws trying to control my new baby?

Firstly, this is my in-laws first grandchild and I do understand their excitement, however, my level of frustration is rising. Let me explain, the day she was born my mil (mother-in-law) insisted on carrying her to the hospital room, the nurses asked her to back off. My family and friends would come to visit and she wouldn't let them hold the baby for longer than 5 minutes. She wanted to help me breast-feed, and encouraged me to use formula so she could help with the feeding. One week after his birth, I spent the night at their house, she took the baby into her room with her and told me the baby would sleep with her, I freaked, faked a feeding and took the baby back. My husband was on a business trip at that time. Now, her hubby, daughter, and her fight over him, claim that she loves them more. Claims they know her better than me and attempts to 'know' her cries. She comes into my room when i'm feeding to see if i'm done so she can play with the baby. At one point when the baby was 3 weeks old she would wake it up to PLAY with it...hello, it's a baby!!! The dil is similar, she has no, and I mean no parenting advice, and tells me what to do! Firstly, I have sisters with children, I work with children, and I think I know my child. My husband has tried to fix the situation but they just tell him that he doesn't know what he's doing!!! They keep telling me to pump so they can feed her, when people are over whatever I eat they tell the guest, that's what baby is going to eat! I know, I know, you're going to tell me to them how I feel, but to be honest, in my culture you can't do that! I am starting to detest them, and want to keep my child away from them, which I know is wrong. Any advice that you suggest will be quite helpful. Today, she took her from me and my husband when she was crying...to console him. People, babies cry, I know that, my husband knows that..but honestly I was going to lose it. My husband had us leave...when we got home my baby was happy, playing, laughing, and did the big burp that was bothering it from before. I can so go on...one time I stayed over, they had the baby all day and I only touched it for feedings. They also like to to hold the baby NON STOP, which makes it harder for me when I get home... I'll stop venting now..any advice...my husband is going nuts with them too, so please, don't suggest my husband or I speak up bc in this culture we can't dis-respect our elders. Oh yes, she GAVE HIM SUGAR today!!!I don't live with them...I just stayed with them to be night... more

Resolved Question: Is it the rest of the family's business to step in on this....?

Years ago, my brother-in-law went through an extremely messy divorce. My nephew was between the years of 3-5 when it happened, and my former sister-in-law (who recently was released from being a guest of the state) put him right in the middle of the whole orderal. She had custody of him during this time, and rarely did the family ever get to see him. Her house was an absolute disaster, we have good reason to believe she was involved with drugs and illicit sex, and, when the family finally got custody of my nephew, he would say how he was told by her that her dad and the family were bad people. We also strongly suspect, but was never able to prove, that his step brothers had sexually assulted him during the time he was away from the family. My nephew is now 11. Due to her inprisonment, along with a court restraining order beinig issued afterwards, he has not seen his mother in five years. Whenever he starts to ask questions about those years away from the family, both my brother-in-law, along with his new wife, strongly rebuke and forbid him from ever mentioning it. The rest of the family feels this is wrong, because the boy has serious questions, and deserves to receive an explanation regarding what happened. The family has been told by both my brother-in-law and his wife that the way they raise their son is their own business, and that we (not just my wife and myself, but all of the family members) are to stay out of it completely, and to tell my nephew the same as they do if he ever asks us about it. Resolved Question: etiquette. house guests and manners?

if you have a visitor - is it bad manners to 'potter' around and carry on your daily routines around them or do you sit and entertain your guests (however long they stay) ive always thought it was bad manners to carry on about my business when i have company so if i have guests, i will sit and chat etc until they leave and then do my other things afterwards, but when i sat and thought about it, everyone else i know - and i mean everyone - they ALL carry on, ironing, washing dusting etc when their guests are there. so i guess what im asking is what do you do? im starting to worry if what i do isnt normal lol, do i over power my guests by chatting to them all the time which do you think is more acceptable? curiosity has got the better of me but i find it rather rude if the people you visit are barely there :)* guests that are only visiting for a few hours, and who are expected :) more

Resolved Question: How to deal with emotionally manipulative parents?

Ok my parents are 69 and 66 and never built a house of their own. we are 2 brothers and 2 sisters. i'm the youngest daughter. my dad never worked and wasted all the money he borrowed from friends and in-laws on other women and stupid business ventures that never worked out. my mom kept borrowing money from her parents and brothers and fed us and brought us up and we all are pretty well educated. my eldest brother became a doctor and took full responsibilty of the household at age 23. he's supporting my parents financially up to this day (he's 40 now)... so after a life of luxury off of other people's money, now my mom and dad expect their kids to support them completely. mom lives with my elder sister and completely controls her household. dad is living with me right now but going back to my sister's house soon as he apparently doesn't like our way of life. he wants to run our house his way. he expects my husband to drive him around town on his off days. he wants me to entertain all his guests, relatives, friends etc day and night. i tried my best but then nothing is good enough in the end. my brothers have told our parents that they will support them financially but cannot keep them at their houses. my sister who is a lawyer and very dominating has told her husband that she will keep our parents at her house for ever. but i don't have the guts to tell my husband that as i am completely dependent on him financially and i also believe that its unfair that we have to keep them at our place. i sure as hell won't like it if my dad-inlaw or mom-inlaw come to live with us for ever then how can i hypocritically let my own parents live here without my husband's consent. i want to help my parents but only god can help them now as they never saved a penny. they still suck at money management and blow thousands of dollars off on clothes, food and luxury items without a second thought. ok now, my dad has started emotionally manipulating me. mom has been manipulating us all for years and now dad has joined her ranks. lolz... this morning he read a poem to me out of no where, for no apparent reason. he said "why oh why is it that i miss you when you are away but when i'm with you, i'm even more sad?" then he laughed and changed the topic. ok i give up. i can't take care of him and mom. but is it my responsibility? what should i do? don't tell me i should kick him out of my life as i can never ever do that. but how should i deal with his and mom's emotional manipulation. i'm already depressed, infertile, job less and i cannot take this added stress. plzzzzzzzzzzzzzz gimme some wise advisevery funny!! i'm already a lesbian. so NOW can you answer the effing question seriously :Pahhh probably the only question on YA that has all low rating answers. how will i choose a best answer? lolz.i know, become a lesbian :P more

Resolved Question: Tired of SIL...driving me nuts(long story..please read)?

I'm really tired of my SIL and her bossy ways. My husband chooses to ignore her, or brushes it all off saying...well that's just my sister..Ignore her. I have asked a question about this before, but things are still just blah so I felt like ranting...but I will turn it into a question. Last May, my husband and I got married(I was 8 months preg at the time). We planned on having my SIL and BIL and a justice of the peace...a quick, quiet and painless ceremony because we were both broke. But Nooo SHE decided that she wanted to buy me a dress. So off we go on a road trip to Grande Prairie and she ends up buying me a wedding dress that cost her $600. I didn't want it...but she was not budging. So then of course, she decided that my husband had to have a suit. And a cake, flowers, decorations, and it had to be in a hall, with guests and a dinner.(luckily my employer gave us a banquet room and the dinner for 15 guests for free) So that all said...she spent about $1500 on the wedding that should have cost us $150. A week after our wedding, I was flown to Edmonton for an emergency C-section due to complications. She offered to come with me last minute because my husband had to sort out work and care for our pets, and he came out a day later. I will never forget her kindness of coming...and I thanked her many times(I was really scared at the time so she was a blessing). She stayed for 2 days with me(then took off with her husband to California on a work trip) and my husband arrived...baby was fine. During that summer, I tried to help her out as much as I can since she is starting her own business. I picked up her kids and took them places...many times...or let them hang at my place for awhile to help her out. I loaned her my car for a week so she could get to work because hers was broke down. She also helped us by coming up a couple times to help settle our son when he was colicky...and everything was so new to us. And she babysat while I did laundry at her house, or did a grocery shop maybe 2 or 3 times. Now, she never calls unless she wants something, and if I can't or don't want to she always says..."I do f'ing everything for you guys...and you do nothing. I'm so tired of having to do everything. If you wanted me to babysit I would drop everything, but you can't help me out once." I'm so tired of it...she is such a hypocrite and bossy, and moody. My question how can I deal with her, when my husband chooses to ignore her. It IRKS me when she calls and says these things because, I never asked her for everything she did and thought it was just her being kind. Resolved Question: Dog doing diarrhea and peeing in the house?

I have a 1 yr old female border collie/husky mix I adopted from the shelter about a month and a half ago. She is housebroken and has always done really great, no accidents. Well yesterday she was in our guest bedroom and I just felt like something was wrong and I go in there and there was diarrhea and pee on the floor. That was SO unlike her so my husband takes her out but she didn't go again. I cleaned it up and she seemed okay after that. Then just now when my husband got up for work I hear him in the other room and she had gone back to the same spot and peed! So I get up and take her out and she instantly has diarrhea outside- it was really bad, I'd never seen her have diarrhea that bad. So I bring her back inside, clean up the latest mess and then when I started typing this I had to step away because I found another diarrhea accident literally 5 minutes later! I don't know if I should scold her or anything because it seems obvious something is wrong. I don't know if she got into something that made her sick or what. To get to the point (sorry!), my question is, do you think we should call the emergency vet or can this wait until monday morning? Obviously I want what's best for her but I don't want to spend unneccessary money for something that could wait until normal business hours.. Hi all, During weekends and if the weather is nice and hot I would open my pool and have an NFL/Pool party with friends. Since it is an NFL Party most my guests are girls from my Company. I live in Miami,FL and I work for a company in Tampa,FL. I'm a virtual employee and get a W-2. For two months I was in training in Tampa and after that I started to work from home in Miami. My questions are 1. When I was in training in Tampa, the company put me up in a guest house and I didn't have to pay for it. I had to pay for my food and other expenses. I used to travel back on weekends. Can I claim the travel and food expense as non-reimbursed work related expense and claim it as a tax deduction? Can I claim per diem on the food and does the company have to do something for me to claim per diem on the food? If I can't claim per diem, can I just claim it as non-reimbursed expense? 2. I know that if I had a small business operating out of my house, I can claim some of my expense like part of the rent, telephone bill and electricity bill as expense. Ok, so I have a yellow lab about 4 months old. We got her when she was 10 wks. She goes to the bathroom outside all the time but almost everyday she goes into the guest bedroom and poops on the floor and on the bed in there. I'm starting to lose my patience. We don't scold her or rub her nose in it like all the "pros" and books say not to do, but there is nothing in the books about how to get a dog to stop pooping and peeing on a bed. When I was growing up we had a black lab and my mom would rub her nose in her business and she never did anything in the house and she was a REALLY good dog. Foreclosures on the ARM properties began and, like Dominos cascading onto one another, the current financial meltdown began. Both Fannie Mae and Freddie MAC were essentially and quietly taken over by the Clinton Administration and his operatives and supporters - including Franklin Raines who ran Fannie Mae and ended up with over $6M his first year - raided both corporations which had become their personal slush funds. From his days of running Fannie Mae, Franklin Raines is reported to have accumulated a personal net worth of over $100M. Another Clintonian buddy - Jamie Gorelick (remember her from the CIA/FBI fiasco?) - is also said to be personally worth in excess of $100M. It appears that some in government service CAN achieve wealth beyond the wildest dreams of most of us! They just have to sell their souls to the highest bidder and be willing to betray their fellow Americans. This fortune was accumulated during her years (1997-2003) as Vice Chairman of Fannie Mae. The fraudulent accounting scheme which apparently allowed for Democrats Raines, Gorelick and other Clinton supporters to achieve vast fortunes in a very short period of time was brought to light in 2004. As mortgage firms and investment banks heavily leveraged by ARM mortgages started to be adversely affected by the number of foreclosures, the current financial crisis began in earnest. Democrats Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) also the Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee - of all things - and Democrat presidential Candidate Barack Obama (who is reported to be the 3rd largest recipient of Fannie Mae political contributions - said to be over $100K in less than 4 years) have also benefited greatly from these Democrats' personal slush funds.
