Businesses hit hard by slow sales
Businesses in and around the CBD have tightened purse strings and slashed overheads following seven long months of below-par sales.
Some retailers fear the economic drought has yet to gain full momentum, while for others the heart-breaking task of cutting staff is already upon them.
Expressions of Me proprietors Stephanie Wilson and Jill Prince are all too aware the cost the “big dry" has had on their business.
Their small retail clothing store slashed staff by one-third earlier this month, but has no guarantee the move will save the business.
Short of a major turnaround the Marshall Street retailers could face the chopping block as early as Christmas.
“And we are one of about three businesses who are all in the same boat," Ms Wilson said.
The pair wrote to Cobar Shire Council (CSC) this month detailing the crisis as well as a proposed “shop locally" campaign. more

Voting Question: Is George Will correct in his piece below?
By George F. Will Sunday, February 21, 2010; A19 Science, many scientists say, has been restored to her rightful throne because progressives have regained power. Progressives, say progressives, emulate the cool detachment of scientific discourse. So hear the calm, collected voice of a scientist lavishly honored by progressives, Rajendra Pachauri. He is chairman of the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which shared the 2007 version of the increasingly weird Nobel Peace Prize. Denouncing persons skeptical about the shrill certitudes of those who say global warming poses an imminent threat to the planet, he says: "They are the same people who deny the link between smoking and cancer. They are people who say that asbestos is as good as talcum powder -- and I hope they put it on their faces every day." Do not judge him as harshly as he speaks of others. Nothing prepared him for the unnerving horror of encountering disagreement. Global warming alarmists, long cosseted by echoing media, manifest an interesting incongruity -- hysteria and name-calling accompanying serene assertions about the "settled science" of climate change. Were it settled, we would be spared the hyperbole that amounts to Ring Lardner's "Shut up, he explained." The global warming industry, like Alexander in the famous children's story, is having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Actually, a bad three months, which began Nov. 19 with the publication of e-mails indicating attempts by scientists to massage data and suppress dissent in order to strengthen "evidence" of global warming. But there already supposedly was a broad, deep and unassailable consensus. Strange. Next came the failure of The World's Last -- We Really, Really Mean It -- Chance, a.k.a. the Copenhagen climate change summit. It was a nullity, and since then things have been getting worse for those trying to stampede the world into a spasm of prophylactic statism. In 2007, before the economic downturn began enforcing seriousness and discouraging grandstanding, seven western U.S. states (and four Canadian provinces) decided to fix the planet on their own. California's Arnold Schwarzenegger intoned, "We cannot wait for the United States government to get its act together on the environment." The 11 jurisdictions formed what is now called the Western Climate Initiative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions starting in 2012. Or not. Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer recently suspended her state's participation in what has not yet begun, and some Utah legislators are reportedly considering a similar action. Brewer worries, sensibly, that it would impose costs on businesses and consumers. She also ordered reconsideration of Arizona's strict vehicle emission rules, modeled on incorrigible California's, lest they raise the cost of new cars. Last week, BP America, ConocoPhillips and Caterpillar, three early members of the 31-member U.S. Climate Action Partnership, said: Oh, never mind. They withdrew from USCAP. It is a coalition of corporations and global warming alarm groups that was formed in 2007 when carbon rationing legislation seemed inevitable and collaboration with the rationers seemed prudent. A spokesman for Conoco said: "We need to spend time addressing the issues that impact our shareholders and consumers." What a concept. Global warming skeptics, too, have erred. They have said there has been no statistically significant warming for 10 years. Phil Jones, former director of Britain's Climatic Research Unit, source of the leaked documents, admits it has been 15 years. Small wonder that support for radical remedial action, sacrificing wealth and freedom to combat warming, is melting faster than the Himalayan glaciers that an IPCC report asserted, without serious scientific support, could disappear by 2035. Jones also says that if during what is called the Medieval Warm Period (circa 800-1300) global temperatures may have been warmer than today's, that would change the debate. Indeed it would. It would complicate the task of indicting contemporary civilization for today's supposedly unprecedented temperatures. Last week, Todd Stern, America's special envoy for climate change -- yes, there is one; and people wonder where to begin cutting government -- warned that those interested in "undermining action on climate change" will seize on "whatever tidbit they can find." Tidbits like specious science, and the absence of warming? It is tempting to say, only half in jest, that Stern's portfolio violates the First Amendment, which forbids government from undertaking the establishment of religion. A religion is what the faith in catastrophic man-made global warming has become. It is now a tissue of assertions impervious to evidence, assertions that everything, including a historic blizzard, supposedly confirms and nothing, not even the absence of warming, can falsify. georgewill@washpost.comJeff M. you obviously don't understand science, science is entirely about skepticism.Fary F.'s comments below show how ridiculous the alarmist movement is and Will explained that quite clearly on the attacks by this leftist radical group. No Will is not a scientist... did someone say Al Gore was? Or the politicians that did follow this garbage hook line and sinker... oops until they see that support is falling and thus have vacated the premise. moreResolved Question: CREATIONISTS (no evolutionists please): How should I interpret this?
We all know that EVOLUTIONISTS and we both look at the same evidence -- we just have different interpretations of it. For example, when we look at the geological record, EVOLUTIONISTS say millions of years of sedimentation, and we say rapid global flood. If you look at the Grand Canyon, you can see a lot of curves, sharp U's, delicate features, a gradation of fossils, and many different layers of different sediments. This is of course evidence of a Biblical fast flood. Ok. But as a creationist, how should I interpret Australopithecus aferensis, ambulocetus, pakicetus or the archaeopteryx? Should I just ignore these and many many other fossils, and just start giving them the "WE DIDN'T COME RANDOMLY BY CHANCE" or "WHY ARE THERE STILL MONKEYS AROUND" or "SECOND LAW OF THERMODYNAMICS" business? moreVoting Question: Do you want me to believe Global Warming is real, and is caused by people?
Show Me, Don’t Tell Me If you believe in global warming, that it is destroying the earth as we speak, then show me how much you believe it to be true. Most global warming alarmists don’t seem to believe their own prognostications, they continue to live as part of the perceived problem, they still drive cars, fly in planes, use electicity, not taking an active stance against carbon emissions, but merely a vocal one. Come on folks, I thought you said the world is being destroyed? That sounds like serious business to me. Here is a question for the global warming alarmists: what proof exists that curtailing carbon emissions would actually reduce global warming? If hypothetically the entire world, starting tomorrow, would immediately stop driving cars, stop burning coal, and stop all industrial emissions, would the earth’s atmosphere then start cooling? would the supposed warming trend abate suddenly? If not suddenly then when? And how much? These are questions that matter, a lot. It’s clear that the debate is not over, but really just getting under way. The real truth is, no one has any idea whether the world would begin cooling, or stop warming, if carbon emissions were halted. Yet this is the assumed outcome, the basis and goal of reduced carbon emissions. It is, in fact, the sole basis of the carbon-reduction/global warming alarmists’ argument, that we have to act now, that global warming is a terrible threat which we can fix if we act immediately. Well then, when I see the alarmists doing without electricity, cars, and airplanes, then I will see a movement that actually makes sense.I will see people who believe what they say as more than political sparring and side-taking. As it is, global warming is all talk, and global warming alarmists, including YOU if you are currently reading this with the aid of electricity, are like PETA members running around in fur coats. How can I take that seriously? moreResolved Question: Should I believe Global Warming is real, and is caused by people?

Hogan and Abyss come out. Flair asks if he can assume that this will be peaceful. Hogan says he's got nothing to worry about because this is not the time for it. Flair wants to apologize for their bad judgment and actions. Flair offers Hogan all his ladies but says Abyss gets nothing. Hogan says he doesn't want anything fro Flair, not a beer or one of his hits of Viagra. Hogan said he promised everybody not to step in the ring and help TNA get to the top. But after what they did, he and Abyss are getting in the ring to take Flair and the wannabe Flair to school. Flair says if that's what he wants then he'll do it. He said the one thing he never did was beat Hogan on national TV. AJ says Hogan had it all when he wrestled. Now AJ is the champ. AJ says it's time to get out of here and train. Bischoff comes out and says AJ has business to take care of tonight. AJ vs. Desmond Wolfe vs. The Pope vs. Abyss is happening tonight. * Angelina Love is out. She calls Velvet Sky a bitch and says she's not leaving until she gets out here. Velvet comes out wielding a pink belt. Angelina goes after her and beats her all over the place. Angelina brings her in the ring and delivers a scissor kick. She takes the belt and is going to use it until the rest of the Beautiful People run out. They hold Angelina down so Velvet can whip her with the belt. They beat on her and then pose to their music and leave. * Mr. Anderson is out dressed as Angle with a bald cap, mouth guard, fake tan and a tag that says loser. He says he's the best wrestler as well as the most injury prone wrestler in the world today. He said he broke his neck tying his shoe and from walking his dog. He said he did it while taking a dump and drinking a Yoohoo and however else. He said he had serious business to discuss. Mr. Anderson cut his head but in reality he just wants sympathy. Also, can I get into trouble because someone is faking my email address somehow? Here is how the emails read: [note: I blocked out my address and replaced it with [myemail@mac.com]. Also, I noticed that in the 12th line up from the bottom the sender's name is listed as "beth wilkerson", her surname isn't even close to mine but "beth" is my middle name and that's part of my email address. then why was snow so scarce 10 years ago when climate temperatures were warmer? Using the logic that warmer temperatures cause increased snow levels, then 1998 should have been a banner year for the ski slopes, but it wasn't. They almost went out of business. Back in 1998, the lack of snow was proof that the climate is warming. Today record snow levels are also proof that the world is getting warmer. Does this logic set off your BS alarm? If this is known science, why weren't increased snows predicted before the winter started? The fact is that NOAA's climate prediction center had this winter being warmer and dryer than average. Does it insult you that warmers point to a snow pile and say it's because of "Global Warming", then point to a puddle and claim it's because of "Global Warming", then point to a thunder storm and claim it's due to "Global Warming", then point to a nice sunny day and claim "Global Warming", blah, blah, blah.......? moreResolved Question: climate change or climate evangelism?

I was recently accepted into graduate school for a master's degree in college student affairs, but I also interviewed for a full-time entry level job at a global advertising firm. I am very unsure of what direction to take, and just wanted to get some input about each direction. I definately enjoyed the college experience, and I think it would be neat to work at a college, but it is all I've known. I like learning, and the college environment. Part of me thinks that I might just be attracted to it because it's all I've known. However advertising/marketing is what I went to school for, but since I haven't worked in it, I'm not sure direction I can take with it. There's a lot that I want to do in my life, but I'm not sure what my end goal is. I feel like I'll figure out what my "dream" is as I go, but I need to start somewhere. I'm also unsure if it would be unwise to turn down a full-time to pursue grad school. I know I'd like to get a master's degree someday for sure and work on the international level but just not sure what direction. Suggestions? moreResolved Question: Helpppppp, how to become......?

Recently the WHO have been getting a lot of criticisms that they "faked the Pandemic" to make billions for the pharmaceutical businesses. I don't think that the WHO did fake the pandemic to make money, when Margaret Chan, Director of the WHO declared the phase six alert in June last year and told the world that a pandemic is underway, she made the right decision because at that time the world was facing a threat, as we still are today, from not just this pandemic but the possibility of a H5N1 pandemic which will happen someday. Also she did say that the pandemic would be of moderate severity, we have been able to save millions of lives because we was prepared for this, we still today face a global health threat, as Margaret Chan said at the start of the swine flu pandemic all those months ago "the virus writes the rules, they can change those rules, without rhythm or reason and at any time without warning" swine flu could still "change the rules" and finish what it started, H5N1 is still a pandemic waiting to happen. What is your opinion, do you think WHO did "faked" the swine flu pandemic or did they make the right decision? moreResolved Question: How do you feel about the Global warming "scientists" who defrauded the entire world NOT being prosecuted?

Over the past few months we've brought you a series of stories involving day laborers. It all started with a fence Star Nursery put up last fall to keep the workers off their property. It was the only solution they could come up with after receiving thousands of customer complaints. But star isn't the only business getting complaints, and now one law enforcement agency is taking action. Most of us have seen them, the men hanging out on the corner near nurseries looking for any work they can find. Many people want work and there are only people searching for work and nothing more. A day laborer we talked to in North Las Vegas told us he's just trying to make some money. "I don't believe we are bothering anyone," he said. North Las Vegas Police say they've received an increasing number of complaints about workers over the past few months, so they are taking action. The police have stepped up, took the opportunity to warn the day laborers and then actually started enforcing those ordinances. Day laborers in North Las Vegas will now be cited if they're caught violating nuisance laws, like jaywalking or urinating in public. That means up to $1130 in fines or up to six months in the slammer. The strict enforcement didn't come as a surprise to the day laborers in North Las Vegas. Warning flyers were handed out to them in English and in Spanish just last month. "Hopefully just letting them know that officers are out here stepping up that enforcement is enough to get them to abide by these simple guidelines," said http://www.ktnv.com/Global/story.asp?S=11826818&nav=menu498_2 moreResolved Question: Brand Warfare: Impact! 4 15 2010?

Why are you people either gay, black, poor or tree huggers? Why can't you people get along with one another? Why do you think that increasing taxes creates wealth? Why do you think that all the problems you have are because of big business and business owners that create the jobs? Why do you think working for the government is the american dream? Why do you think Global Warming is real? What happened to the Global Cooling in the seventies and early eighties? Why are scientist now saying that we are starting to enter a cooling cycle for the next 20 years? Why did you vote for Obama and why can't you elect someone who is not a lawyer but a proven business owner or a good ceo? Why do you hate dropping bombs on terrorists? How do you feel about our government sending billions out in foreign aid when people are homeless in this country? moreResolved Question: Why Oppose the Reality of Global Warming?
Though deniers of global warming aren't deserving of a thorough explanation of how global warming is indeed a human-instigated phenomenon (research it, don't gripe about it here), how is it at all excusable to oppose the effort to hedge climate change? Hypothetically, let's just say global warming isn't caused by humans. Let's just say it's a natural change in the planet's average temperature. Or, better yet, let's just say the earth is the same temperature for the past 100 million years (5,000 years for creationists). If this is so, why do so many people detest the idea of being more conscious of the impact we have on our ecosystem (however light some may imagine). Who does recycling hurt? How is conserving energy (even without the threat of an energy crisis) somehow foolish? The only argument against climate change policy that has any merit is the ridiculous claim: "It's bad for business! And what's bad for business is bad for America!" Newsflash! If the government gives incentives to business to streamline their methods of doing business by reducing emissions, materials and various other forms of waste, you have the engine of capitalism propelling markets to be more responsible. As a matter of fact, the Japanese and many of our European friends have gotten a jump start on the United States because they have addressed this form of "New Capitalism" long ago. So far ahead are many of these foreign companies, we actually rely on them to supply us with the best in renewable energy technology (e.g. photovoltaic cells, wind turbines, etc.). But no, apparently "free-market" lunatics hate the idea of a potentially damaging and oligarchical system like capitalism from being nudged into a positive direction because that would be indicative of a GOVERNMENT TAKEOVER! Good lord! Heaven forbid we use a tool like government (it is a tool, conservatives; the Greeks didn't develop a republic just have a big, bad boogeyman looming over them) to curb the tyrannical tendencies of those who have amassed tremendous wealth and power! So, who cares if it's all a sham? What do millions of scientist have to gain through empirical testing on climate change? What do progressives win if we all start acting responsible? Certainly there is no personal profit form any of this except the satisfaction of knowing that we will prolong our species' life on this planet, that we have preserved the health and beauty of our surroundings and that we need not worry about where we get our energy fix. To oppose efforts that make these improvements is a non-sequitur. It's almost like opposing the idea of cleaning dirty dishes just because they don't pose a deadly threat. Conservatives, I point my finger stiffly at you: do you really take charge of an issue ONLY when we're facing the prospect of annihilation? moreResolved Question: Do people who say that various groups are responsible for things in the past actually beleive what they say?
Here goes my attempt to try to understand the people who post some ridiculous shit on this site. People here are constantly blaming Jews for every, if not most, of the bad things that happened in the past. 9/11 - Jews The Holocaust - Jews Famine - Jews Child Labor - Jews Banks - Jews, well actually there are a lot of Jewish bankers, so I'll let that one slide The reason I keep losing socks - Jews The next common group that is blamed are corporations, okay, I think everyone from the Mississippi to the Hawaiian Islands and beyond and in between agrees that CEOs probably aren't the nicest guys in the world, and have certainly never been exempt from scandal or slander. But do people honestly believe that being a successful business owner is evil? Nobody gets ahead in the world by playing nice nice, except Gandhi, but he wasn't a CEO. Let's wake up, face the facts, to make money and get ahead in the world, you have to either have an amazing talent which appeals to a wide audience, or be a cutthroat business person. I will qualify that they may not have been especially helpful in the global recession, but they certainly didn't cause it. And neither did the Jews. Blacks are sparsely blamed openly on Y!A, but I suspect if one looks closely they are also blamed for a lot of stuff that they probably shouldn't be. I'm not saying there aren't some bad black people, but there are also bad white people. We cannot generalize. This group isn't as prevalently opposed as Jews and Corporations so they get a smaller segment, and I'm going to lump them in with white people, sorry neither gets their own paragraph. Freemasons, Illuminati and other various scientifically based groups of the like. I know they are mysterious, but so is the fact that James Carville doesn't have horns (liberal or conservative, that guy is creepy looking). I mean, yeah they keep secrets, and yeah nobody is for sure what goes on in there, but the odds are likely that it isn't devil worshiping or plotting the end of the world and free society as we know it. They probably talk about golfing and football more than they talk about evil plots to take over the world. Some problems the Freemasons/Illuminati have been blamed for I have seen are 9/11 (apparently everyone had a hand in that), JFK, New World Order (is not what is says on the back of the dollar, it says New Order of the Ages, referring to the age of freedom as America was the first of many free colonies), and the recession, among others I may have missed. That's about all I can think of that isn't liberal or conservative. As far as I stand on those, I am conservative, but I can sleep fairly soundly at night knowing that neither all liberals or all conservatives want to end America. George Bush should not be tried for crimes. We didn't do it to any other president who fought a war. Don't even start on that. As far as global warming goes, I don't even want to talk about it. I'll say this much, there is no definitive proof either way, so lets leave it alone, okay? I know this feels like a rant, and it kinda is to be honest, but I just wanted to know if people actually believe in what they type on here. P.S. I know to some of you that, "I am blind to the truth" so just don't, okay?P.S.S. I know this is Y!A, but I gots ta' know if people actually think like this on this site. moreResolved Question: Which one of the MBA specializations in NYU Stern is the best choice for me?

Below i have my uni personal statement.. if any one could help proof read it for me and make any suggestions i would be most grateful thanks... Why do I want to go on to higher education? Well, ever since I started secondary school at the age of eleven I have always wanted to pursue towards further education at university. Originally I wanted to become a Primary school teacher but since taking part in a lot of work experience in that field, my mind was suddenly made up that that this in fact was not what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I since have gained a great interest in the marketing industry, and I have come to notice that there are mass opportunities in the market, which has yet to be exploited, and I in the future want to do exactly that. I believe it would challenge my more creative side as well as testing my theoretical skills. I'm particularly interested in the more creative advertising side of marketing and the psychology behind it. I'm very business minded and I have many ideas, which I can expand on in the future. But before I do so I want to be more knowledgeable about the marketing industry, because if I do go into this field of work then I want to know what type of characteristics I need to build on in order to be successful in whatever I do in the future. My auntie is also part owner of a family business, so I have experienced business throughout my life and I believe this has contributed to my passion towards this subject. I have just recently undergone two weeks work experience at my aunties business. Here I helped to create leaflets and posters in order to reach out to the local and wider community. I found this thoroughly interesting and I now want to gain a much deeper insight into the marketing sector in order to pursue a career in the industry in the future. In October I returned from a 2 ½ month voluntary project in Kenya run by a government scheme called platform2. The aim of the trip is to provide 18-25 year olds the opportunity to visit a developing country and get involved with global issues of justice and poverty. Whilst in Kenya I lived with a local family for the ten week duration and worked on an ongoing conservation project in order to help conserve the eco system by improving the livelihoods or communities adjacent to the forest through an environmentally sustainable income. This experience has undoubtedly broadened my perspective of the world. It has been portrayed to me that out in Kenya everyone was trying to help one another get by, they were all in the same boat. Here, most people are trying to just get in their own boat and sail their own course. Over there they know that if they don’t build a boat together, they sink. Volunteering in Kenya in an underprivileged community has undoubtedly developed my life skills and fostered the creativity within me. It has nurtured my ability to be flexible in changing conditions, and adapt and adjust to new environments and cultures. Platform2- ‘Some People wait for change to happen, other people volunteer’ All my experiences have made me keen to broaden my knowledge and given the chance I will do so with full dedication, determination and continuous persistence as I am a motivated, sophisticated and charismatic individual who believes you only get one chance to make a first impression and my recognition would be by accomplishing my objective which is to obtain a degree in the marketing field and make myself realise that I have worked towards my potential which thus will be the basis of my success in the future. moreVoting Question: Recognize Java Credentials in Canada?

I apply for grad school and have to wrire motivation letter. Can anyone look through it and see if there any grammar mistakes or if the structure is unclear? Director of the Program xx KTH December 18, 2009 Dear Sir or Madam: I have been at my last year of school at American University in Bulgaria, with a major of Business Administration. During my studies majority of the courses were focused on the main challenges and concerns related to the successful global functioning of organizations, critical skills needed to properly start and manage ventures and analytical tools and models used in problem solving. My undergraduate education at American University in Bulgaria has not only given me a certain set of valuable skills but has also helped me to understand my academic strengths and weaknesses and my fields of interest. While taking a course of Marketing I received a deep insight into creating, developing and assessing projects. Besides studying the theory, I had to create a product which would be innovative and successful on global market, evaluating all the advantages of disadvantages in terms of cultural aspects, geographical location, customer demand in particular region and many other crucial factors which help to determine the successful realization of the product. Operational Supply Management was the other useful courses where I acquired the necessary skills to start and manage projects following the key management concept of planning, organizing , leading and controlling. My study abroad experience at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky has given me additional knowledge in my field and has made my communication skills more effective. Taking such courses as Management Science and Management helped me to understand how important it is for the company to be more innovative and entrepreneurial. I acquired necessary skills of how these invention can properly function, how they can be managed and how they can be realized within specific organization. In addition to that, frequent work in groups for creating a project have built good team work understanding and involvement I believe that possession of such critical skills an effective communication, creativity and collaboration can qualify me as a candidate to your program. I am someone who is able to learn quickly and adapt to new environments and perform under pressure. I love to be challenged, to explore new ideas, I am always eager to learn and engage in several activities, which helps me to manage my time more efficiently and be more productive. Furthermore, studying in American University in Bulgaria gave me sufficient amount of quantitative knowledge and assisted in developing my analytical thinking skills needed to properly analyze and assess innovative projects. After completing the Master`s Programme my goal is to start my career in one of the innovative companies, where I will be able to utilize my practical and theoretical knowledge to attain the prosperity of organization. With education in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management, I will gain a relevant knowledge of innovation and entrepreneurship combined with strong real world experience that will help me to build my further development as innovation leader and provide with a basis for the start-up of my own business venture . Thank you most sincerely for your time and consideration. I look forward to your positive response. Respectfully yours, xx moreResolved Question: What classes should I take next year?

If Iran is attacked by another nation do they have the right to defend themselves and attack those who have attacked them? Who then is the aggressor (in the wrong) and the defender (in the right). Who then would YOU support? Those in the wrong? Or those in the right? Nazi Germany "attacked" other countries, and they were in the "wrong". The U.K. and the U.S. (among other nations) defended them and were "in the right". Please, consider these very real possibilities. First, if Israel thinks they can take on a nation of 85 million Iranians, they need to get off the drugs, booze, arrogance and punch-drunk Zionist-moron power trip. Israel cannot defeat Iran with conventional weapons. Iran is very close politically and economically to Russia and China, with each having huge financial interests at stake. The Bushear Nuclear Reactor was built by Russia, there are many Russian technicians there and have been all along. Any attack on that facility will kill Russians as well as Iranians. China has $400 billion in oil and gas business with Iran and has even built a new port at Gwadar. Secondly, any attack by the US, possibly even if they are aiding and abetting an Israeli attack, could see a massive Iranian army cross the borders into Afghanistan, Baluchistan province of Pakistan and into Iraq. It could well make the US concept of 'troop surge' look impotent as our US troops are suddenly swarmed by millions of really angry, justifiably angry Iranians. They may well be joined by Russian, Indian and Chinese forces that already know that the US Global War on Terror lie is all about resource theft and control. That, ladies and gentlemen is what Iraq and Afghanistan, and even the new hostilities with Pakistan are really about. If Americans have been displeased with the lies and deceit thus far emanating from the US and UK, and the dead and maimed number of US soldiers, they have not seen anything yet like the carnage that would come just from attacking Iran. China has recently built and opened a port in the Baluchistan province of Pakistan and it is only 72 km from Iran. The intent is to get the Iranian oil to China through that port. It is also planned to run a pipeline from that port to China, a distance of only 2500 kilometers. Look here: http://i50.tinypic.com/2zrnblt.jpg If you are map challenged, that pipeline is across Pakistan, the port is in the western part of Pakistan. Afghanistan is to the north, India to the right side of the graphic and Iran is on the left side of the graphic. Look at that graphic real close: The US aims to bring a pipeline from north of Afghanistan, through Afghanistan and then through that part of Pakistan to the ocean. Get it? If not, damn, learn to read a map! Your very existence relies on it. Americans need to really think and start asking why China can get such deals done with a pen, contracts and money, and the US military strategy is a complete failure. Really think on that because the answer is not that hard to understand. Russia and India are getting such deals done too, while the USA Titanic continues to sink. Those who "control" Obama and who also "controlled" Bush are trying to destroy the United States,...WAKE UP! China is taking very clear steps that signal it will control its energy future for their own economy, rather than being controlled and manipulated from London, DC or Wall Street. Again, that is their lawful right to do so. That is what the pissing match is all about and the US and UK are losing, checkmate, the damned game and lies are over. Pens and contracts are burying the US and UK. Due to the lies the morons concocted to launch their greedy plan, the rest of the world is laughing while the Empire Masters sink in the pile of shit they alone created. The rest of the world has moved on, won, and did not fire one single shot. This insanity will only stop America when you wake up, grow a set of balls and make it stop. Part 1 - Analyzing Primary Sources: (2 points each / 10 total points) Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow. The passage is an excerpt from President Bill Clinton’s State of the Union address in January 1998. . . . As we enter the twenty-first century, the global economy requires us to seek opportunity not just at home, but in all markets of the world. We must shape this global economy, not shrink from it. In the last five years, we have led the way in opening new markets, with 240 trade agreements that remove foreign barriers to products bearing the proud stamp “Made in the U.S.A.” Today, record high exports account for fully one-third of our economic growth. I want to keep them growing, because that’s the way to keep America growing and to advance a safer, more stable world. . . . I know there is opposition to more comprehensive trade agreements. I have listened carefully and I believe that the opposition is rooted in two fears: first, that our trading partners will have lower environmental and labor standards, which will give them an unfair advantage in our market and do their own people no favors, even if there’s more business; and, second, that if we have more trade, more of our workers will lose their jobs and have to start over. I think we should seek to advance worker and environmental standards around the world. I have made it abundantly clear that it should be a part of our trade agenda. But we cannot influence other countries’ decisions if we send them a message that we’re backing away from trade with them. 1. According to President Clinton, what accounted for one-third of U.S. economic growth? 2. What opposition to comprehensive trade agreements does President Clinton acknowledge? 3. What did President Clinton make “abundantly clear” should be a part of the trade agenda? 4. Why does President Clinton want to keep trade agreements going? 5. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/08/science/earth/08climate.html Meeting on Climate Opens With Calls for Urgent Action In the spirit of international cooperation, world leaders agree that urgent action is needed to curb pollution. So I, for one, finally agree that we have no choice but to end free trade. How can we possibly justify the unneccesary burning of fossil fuels and the resulting pollution from all those ships crossing the ocean to bring cheap imports to Walmart, when the same items could be made right here in the USA for only a few dollars more. We can no longer sit silently as these huge vessels cross the ocean belching pollution and all those greenhouse gas emissions. How much longer must we continue the insanity of free trade, while it is contributing to global pollution and consuming fossil fuels? SECONDLY, bringing those jobs back to the USA would cut down on unemployment, which is another issue President Obama is addressing. The time for complacency is over. We can no longer sit back and say there's nothing we can do to end free trade. We can no longer idly stand by saying we care more about cheap prices at Walmart than we do about saving the environment. The time has come to limit imports, and cut the cord of dependency on foreign sweatshops to supply the household items we need for our daily existence. THIRDLY, if we cut imports by applying a tariff, the tariff would generate desperately needed revenues that would reduce our ruinous deficit, while reducing the trillion dollar trade deficit that increases our debt and weakens our currency. Deficit reduction is another one of the issues President Obama says we must address. In fact, during the campaign Obama himself said we must reform free trade: http://www.ontheissues.org/2008/Barack_Obama_Free_Trade.htm OBAMA: For far too long, certainly during the course of the Bush administration with the support of Sen. McCain, the attitude has been that any trade agreement is a good trade agreement. And NAFTA did not have enforceable labor agreements and environmental agreements. And what I said was we should include those and make them enforceable. In the same way that we should enforce rules against China manipulating its currency to make our exports more expensive and their exports to us cheaper. And when it comes to South Korea, we’ve got a trade agreement up right now, they are sending hundreds of thousands of South Korean cars into the US. That’s all good. We can only get 4,000 to 5,000 into South Korea. That is not free trade. We’ve got to have a president who is going to advocate on behalf of American businesses and American workers and I make no apology for that Source: 2008 third presidential debate against John McCain Oct 15, 2008 Global trade is unsustainable if it favors only the few This is the moment when we must build on the wealth that open markets have created, and share its benefits more equitably. Trade has been a cornerstone of our growth and global development. But we will not be able to sustain this growth if it favors the few, and not the many. Together, we must forge trade that truly rewards the work that creates wealth, with meaningful protections for our people and our planet. This is the moment for trade that is free and fair for all. Source: Speech in Berlin, in Change We Can Believe In, p.268 Jul 24, 2008 Isn't it time, then, to make meaningful changes in our foreign trade policy, and start reducing our $2 trillion dollar a year habit of reliance on imports?Shovel Ready, correct! We have relocated our manufacturing pollution to other countries, where the same manufacturing creates even more pollution because of their lax or non-exitent environmental protections, PLUS we create the extra pollution of shipping the products back to the USA. So we cut down our pollution here and increased global pollution by two or three times as much. How smart was that?Terry, good point! Much of air travel is totally unnecessary business travel, and much of that is businessmen flying overseas to keep up with their outsourced production or to shop for a foreign sweatshop that makes the cheapest imports. We could cut way down on air travel by curtailing imports.Gee, I would think I would get a lot of answers from all those liberals who are so dedicated to saving the environment. I know many pundits are using this episode in claiming global warming is just a messy and complicated hoax. Here is what I know that is scientifically irrefutable: 1. Concentrations of CO2 are at their highest levels in 800,000 years. 2. Melting sea ice had declined from 7 million square kilometers to 5 million kilometers since 1980. 3. Sea levels have been rising at twice the historical average since 1990. Does this mean the world will fall into global warming chaos if Cap and Trade isn't passed? No. Does this mean we should look at alternative energy sources to power us here and abroad. Yes. We should start with a robust Nuclear Program in my opinion. It is inexpensive, and, relatively CO2 free, Congress and the President should treat this problem practically, and seriously, to show they do want change. While the state government has claimed a 'success rate' of 69 per cent, only 34.2 per cent of the total investments announced during the summit are under implementation, while the rest remain at the announcement stage, according to an Assocham study. Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and his government have been basking in the 'success' of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investor's Summit held earlier this year just because several of India's biggest industrialists praised Modi's leadership. According to the Assocham report submitted to the government on Thursday, only 24 projects worth Rs6,217 crore were completed in the second quarter of 2009-10. The event is aimed at bringing together business leaders, investors, corporations, thought leaders, policy and opinion makers; the summit serves as a perfect platform to understand and explore business opportunities in the State of Gujarat. So this is not about agriculture, this is not about malnutrition, this is not about riots, this is not about education, this is only about investments in Gujarat announced as per the projects in "Vibrant Gujarat summit". Does this report disclose that "Vibrant Gujarat" is mostly on papers and advertisements to show state government achievements?Rahul B, Why would I accept Modi as good CM or Bad CM? That is my perception to make that decision. Here the question is only on one point. Let us discuss that point. As I said in my question, I do not want to discuss unrelated topics.Dear Raj Kish, if I am comparing Gujarat development with another state, yes you need data, this is a project started and run by Gujarat government and I appreciate their efforts, no doubt that is a well effort. But are the results as shown on the papers are politicized more than the reality? That is my question, and I think for that I need data only from the state and Assocham, and I did provide that. Agree? And one more thing, if Assocham is correct, then the unfortunately data becomes irrelevant. And please read the links, it does not only talk bad, it talks lot good about Gujarat state also.shai, appreciate your answer. Assocham's report only says that in 2009 the government numbers are incorrect. As I already said the project is good. I know all the politicians make up numbers, and only wanted say in this question, that Modi is not different from them. And the reason why I posted this question, because there were lot of number claims made with respect to Modi, some in favor and some against. I want to say to all the users that all these numbers are useless. All these numbers on government websites are made up numbers. And this is not only for Modi, I would say it is for all..... I will close this question tomorrow, but I want all to read my this final comment. I have got my best answer. Thank-you everyone.I don't find any answer that I can select as best answer, though some answers are good, like Raj Kish, Shai, ap, aggression, Mehtaap (if I forget the second statement). That is why I am putting this question for voting. Let the users decide the best answer. I would biased if I chose the best answer. moreResolved Question: Is this a violation of Yahoo Answers rules?
I have been going through a difficult time in my personal life. I have been in a difficult marriage for the past six years and going through the process of separation and divorce. I have been embarrassed about starting to date women while I am in this process. Rather than come out and admit that I was starting to date women before I separated, I stated in my questions that I was already divorced. Later when I thought it was not right, I corrected that to include my current status. Later in asking questions about dating, relationships, marriage, several Yahoo answers members started stalking my questions. Instead of answering a question, for example, would it be appropriate to send flowers to a woman that I had only been dating for a couple of weeks, one Y!A members answer said "You are a liar! You said you were divorce already. . ." The person went on to berate me on this page and people removed their answers. My understanding of this Q&A board is that it is a question and answer forum. Insulting other members, passing personal moral judgment on other members, is to me a violation of our community standards. I think it is a violation of Y!A community standards to judge other members using beliefs, morals, and ethics based upon an individual's religion and upbringing and impose that set of personal values as a way to judge another member. Whether it is right or wrong to see other people and have friends while married, separated, living together or not, is a personal decision based upon the personal beliefs of individuals. I do not take the personal information I have about Y!A members and use it against them when answering questions. Has this ever happened to you? Have you posted a question on Yahoo answers about what do you think of a recent event in the news, what websites can I use to search for good restaurants in my area, or some other question similar to that, and have one of your contacts write a paragraph telling the Y!A community your personal business and passing moral judgment against you that is not related to the question you asked? I find that what makes the Y!A community special is that we are a community of diverse age groups, religious beliefs, a global community of different nations, and different personal lifestyles. Again, I stress that we have different lifestyles. When individuals answer questions in such a way that states that according to your personal beliefs, what you are doing is wrong, it is neither a question nor an answer, and is merely insulting to me as well as the other members of the Yahoo answers community. Some people have straight lifestyles, gay lifestyles. Some people are married, and some people live together, and some people choose to be single. Some people date when they are single and unattached, some people date when they are separated but not yet divorced, and some people have open marriages and have friends while they are still married. These are personal lifestyle choices that we make, all of them are different, and as being part of the Y!A community we need to respect each individual's lifestyle choices. The pursuit of happiness is up to the individual not up to the community, right? There are people who will look at the length of a question and consider it a rant. I think that some questions need explanation. I am still asking for information. I am angered by what has happened. I still consider this a question, not a rant. You do not have to agree with me. Just tell me some things that I do not know and offer constructive criticism. moreVoting Question: i need help with goverment. can anyone please help me?

Consumers will always want the cheapest service/product. Here are 2 Prime Examples: In our Mixed Economy Education: Many people send their kids to public schools then private. Why? Because the first option is "free". Mail: Many people send their letters through USPS then private. Why? Because it's conveniently outside your house(Mail-Box), and it's "cheaper". --------------------------------------------------------------- Health Care will do the same thing as the two examples. What will happen is it will be "Cheap" since tax payers subsidize the cost. Consumers directly see a "cheap" cost, despite not seeing how the costs are lowered through taxation. This will lead to a government ran program, which is socialism. I wish we can keep everything privatized, so their will be competition. Private Schools here charge 7,000 a year intuition. While the state pays 11,000 per student. (Because of the District buildings and bureaucracy outside the schools function) You can't have a government program in competition with a private program. The private program can go bankrupt. This is why USPS and Public Schools are dominant over the private sectors. It's not because the private sectors are expensive. It's because consumers know (Or I hope), that their tax dollars makes these things function. So they pick those choices first. Consumers will always though pick the "cheaper" product. This is why Wal*Mart and Costco are widely visited. So in theory, you should either socialize America. Or do what the fore fathers wanted and privatize everything. (Read "Wealth of the Nations" by Adam Smith a Libertarian) This is why industry's that are 100% private with no government intervention never have problems. Bail outs - Government Intervention Oil Company's drilling restrictions - Government Intervention. I've yet to see a major retail chain fail and cause a massive problem. In 2008, Circuit City, and Linens-N-Things went out of business. Nothing happened. The market kept going. The height of the private market movement would be McDonalds (Weather you like it or not). They are Global/Franchised. I hope the world ends this way. It will end war, we will all be trading and trying to beat our competitor through getting more clientele. Trying to satisfy what people want. Or you can have bureaucrats running things. I've yet to see a war start because of a business.Sunshine: The USPS, is "Cheap" because when it has negative revenue the tax payers absorb the cost. Fedex can't do that. They go out of business. This is why an oligopoly forms. Due to bureaucracy. You don't see the intangible(Taxation) cost, only the tangible when you mail a letter.Passiondale: Couple things wrong here. A) Public Schools and USPS didn't exist the time the founders where alive. Public Schools where paid by the community I agree. Yet it wasn't funded through property tax or anything at the time. It wasn't established till later on. B) You failed by comparing the average income to paying 7,000 for private school. Since private schools are not depicted on Income. It's depicted on weather or not you're willing to pay for it. I can make the average income and drive a Mercedes. If I chose to spend that income on that product. C) Private Schools don't only pick smart kids, they would be dumb to do that, since they lose possible intuition. They'd lose money and go bankrupt. D) Businesses don't discriminate, why would they throw possiable sales out the window just to be discriminatory. Lol business is business. Clients are Clients. This is naive. moreResolved Question: isn't the same ol same ol getting a little too old?
Freshman Sen. Mark Warner, Virginia Democrat, said Tuesday that President Obama has misplayed his attempt to reform U.S. heath care by focusing on insurance coverage instead of explaining that the current system is headed toward a financial meltdown. "I wish the president would have started the debate by explaining to the American people that our current health care system is not financially sustainable, for even another decade," Mr. Warner said. "Driving down health care costs should have been the focus of the debate." Mr. Warner, 54, made millions investing in technology ventures before he became Virginia's governor from 2002 to 2006 and helped cut the state's $6 billion deficit through a tax package. On Tuesday, he told The Washington Times' "America's Morning News" radio show the key points of the debate should be that the largest contributor to the U.S deficit is federal spending on health care, Medicare will go bankrupt in the next seven years and the average American family will spend 40 percent of its disposable income on health care insurance. He also said the cost of insurance on U.S. businesses is increasing their costs, making them less competitive in the worldwide market. The Washington Times America's Morning News (interview with Sen. Mark Warner)"As a former business guy, I believe America has to stay competitive in the global economy," Mr. Warner said. The effort by the Democrat-controlled Congress to fulfill Mr. Obama's goal of reforming health care in his first year began this summer, with contentious debates on Capitol Hill, then in town-hall-style meetings across the country. The House last week passed a reform bill, but the Senate has yet to hold a full vote. Among the major issues are cost, a potential government-run system and now abortion funding. Mr. Warner also said Tuesday that he, along with some Republicans and fellow Democrats in Congress, think the economy will never fully recover from the recession unless the roughly $1.4 trillion federal deficit is brought under control. He said old methods are not working and advocated for a bipartisan commission to make a new set of regulations on which Capitol Hill lawmakers could vote only "yes" or "no." "I'm a new senator, but I don't see how we're going to get the deficit under control if we do it through the regular order in the Senate in which people can add and protect their own programs." He said some Democrats also are saying they might not vote to extend the ceiling on the debt without a commitment to create the commission. moreResolved Question: Who corrects me my relation in English?
Im italian who correct me relationship. Max point of the best answer. To avoid a climate catastrophe, The international community must reduce effectively and urgently CO2 emissions. So global warming does not exceed 2 degrees Celsius. Developed countries are primarily responsible for climate change, generate 80% of CO2 in the atmosphere. But victims of the climate they live mainly in developing countries the number of people living in poverty, victims of hunger and no access to safe water has increased the water crisis will worsen more the melting of glaciers will lead to problems for the water supply of millions of people. in next the ten years, the increase of the sea level that will submerge the coastal zones and entire islands, will transform million persons in climatic refugees us. The conference will be held in Copenhagen in December 2009, an agreement will have to be absolutely found on the protection of the climate, so as to make official the limit of the 2 degrees, leaving to the South a margin for its development. In order to reach this result it will be necessary to respect the following principles: 1. Lessening of the emissions of CO2 of 40% in the industrialized countries within 2020 (comprised Switzerland). 2. Lessening of the half of the emissions of CO2 on a worldwide basis within 2050 3. Quotes from Utahns on Obama's Nobel Prize The Salt Lake Tribune Updated: 10/09/2009 06:48:56 PM MDT "I don't think that Iran will suddenly wake up and say, my God, we're dealing with a Nobel Prize winner, here." Bob Seltzer, Salt Lake City, a Westminster College administrator "As Americans, no matter what your politics, people ought to be pleased that our leader, our president, was singled out for this honor -- the same way we were pleased when a professor from the University of Utah won a Noble Prize." Bob Seltzer, Salt Lake City, a Westminster College administrator "That is so ridiculous. First of all, why is he making efforts to reach out to the Muslim [world]? There are so many other issues close to home I feel should be dealt with before you go outside. Reagan, Lincoln and Washington, they never got any Nobel Prizes, and they were the ones who deserved it." Elizabeth Pedersen, Salt Lake City, student "Frankly, I think the best thing Obama has done for us relating to peace is end America's terrorist panic the Bush era brought about. That's what he should get the peace prize for." Roger Bourke White Jr., Taylorsville, business and technology writer and student "As much as the recognition is for him, it is a recognition that the United States is a leader in international diplomacy and that we, as a nation, have made a renewed commitment to international diplomacy and peace in the world." Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon "It was premature. He may do some great things, but let's wait and see before we start giving awards." Brent Warnock, Bountiful, Salt Lake Community College adjunct instructor "He's a good president. I'm all for him getting the Nobel Peace Prize. If he's reaching out this way [to other countries], I think that's good. It's not wrong to talk to people, right?" Kelly Klick, Salt Lake City student "People have done a lot more and not gotten a Nobel Peace Prize, but as far as the people in leadership positions and in power, he's doing a lot more. He's doing what no one else is doing, and that's kind of what the Nobel Peace Prize is about." Heather Stout, Salt Lake City, server and student The award "sends a message to the world that our leaders, and we as a people, are serious about working for peace." Allan Smart, Salt Lake City, vice president of the Gandhi Alliance for Peace The Nobel committee has appropriately recognized "that President Obama in a short time has reinvigorated diplomacy, improved our country's stature in the world community, and revived hope for peaceful resolution of international issues." Scott Matheson Jr., Salt Lake City, a professor at the University of Utah's S.J. Quinney School of Law. The President is right to see the award as a "call to action -- both an affirmation and an inspiration for nations to work together to reverse nuclear proliferation, address climate change, eliminate terrorism, and end armed conflict." Scott Matheson Jr., a professor at the University of Utah's S.J. Quinney School of Law. "Obama deserves credit for convincing much of the world that the United States is a nation that can once again be trusted with global leadership. This might just say how important it is that the United States does fill that leadership role." Michael Minch, Draper, Utah Valley University director of Peace and Justice Studies "The gold medal might hang heavy around Obama's neck as a standard upon which all of his future actions will be measured. There's no doubt that it will now be something of a burden." Michael Minch, Draper, Utah Valley University director of Peace and Justice Studies Lisa Schencker and Matthew D.
