House passes business tax bill

BOISE -- An industry-driven bill that could afford Idaho businesses an eventual $120 million tax break gained House passage here Friday. The piece of legislation that seeks to phase out during a five-year span Idaho's personal property tax on business equipment escaped the House on a 39-31 vote.House Bill 599 now goes to the 35-member Senate, where the measure boasts a dozen co-sponsors, including four of the nine members of the Senate Local Government and Taxation Committee.Thirty-two members of the 105-member Idaho Legislature are listed as co-sponsors of HB 599, which has been promoted strongly by Idaho's most powerful business lobby -- the Idaho Association of Commerce and Industry.IACI has estimated the recommended bill would cost the state $110 to $120 million during the five-year phase-out that could start next year if certain economic conditions are met. more

The Treasury Department deals in millions and billions and even trillions of dollars, but it can think small, too. Officials announced Friday that starting next month, individuals will be able to buy Treasury securities in amounts as small as $100, down from the current minimum of $1,000.

The change will take effect for the weekly auction of three-month and six-month Treasury bills that will be held on April 7. Treasury Department officials said the hope is the reduction will attract smaller investors.

Voting Question: I'm a bookkeeper looking to start my own home business. I need help thinking of small businesses to market to?

I'm sending out postcards that market my business. I live in a medium-sized community and have made out mailing labels for the following businesses: farms, grain elevators, plumbers, small diners/restaurants, music centers, construction, trucking companies, auto repair, and beauty shops. Does anyone have ideas of other types of small businesses I can market to? I know there are so many out there, but my brain is just not working! Thanks in advance! The answers have been helpful, but are a bit vague. I'm looking for ideas that are specific. Like the golf course idea. Or local construction companies and local auto repair shops. It is expensive to join our Chamber of Commerce. And I don't have a lot of extra money to put ads out - I've spent more than $150 on the postcards alone! more

Resolved Question: Buying a Home, Need advice about offers and contracts?

My husband and I are going to purchase a house but we are not real familiar with the business of home buying. We have heard alot of advice so far, such as stipulations for your buying contract and where to start offers. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on these topics. Such as how to determine if a offer is fair, or things we should ask for in the contract. I should add that the house is a new construction and is priced at $149k, although it is probably hard to determine the value without knowing the area we live in. I was just wondering what people had to say about their own experiences, for example a friend told us to be sure we had something in the contract about fixing the nails that start to pop out after the house settles. Anyway thanks in advance! more

Resolved Question: Has the Obama Stimulus Worked?

Considering the fact that it really isn't a "stimulus"? Fact 1: $850 Billion was spent in the "stimulus". According to Keynesian Theory, the money should have been spent quickly to help stimulate the economy. The money would have gone to the 300 million Americans who needed it. We would all have gotten checks for $2833.33 dollars. I haven't gotten one yet... Fact 2: Why didn't Obama start buying goods from private businesses to increase demand? That's Keynesian Theory too - it hasn't happened. Higher Demand = higher employment = multiplier affect. That hasn't happened in the "stimulus". Fact 3: More than 9,000 Earmarks... In the "Stimulus" http://readthestimulus.org/hr1_text.pdf The Stimulus Package 2009 (PDF) http://www.readthestimulus.org/ Read the stimulus.org Stimulus FACTS Fact 4: Infrastructure Spending doesn't help an economy grow out of a recession. Infrastructure helps businesses, but if businesses are already doing bad - the infrastructure build up doesn't help much. As for the "Shovel Ready Jobs", they won't last long if they are created. Once the projects are done, the jobs go away. Secondly, there are not enough construction jobs to pull us out of the recession. Third, most of those "Shovel Ready Jobs" are low income jobs that do not increase the standard of living. Infrastructure spending helps during economic booms - Eisenhower did that spending during a boom. Fact 5: Why hasn't Obama lowered Taxes to stimulate Demand? That's Keynesian Economics 101, Supply-Side is different. Supply-Side tax cuts are designed to increase government revenues and economic output/production or aka "supply". “…taxation may be so high as to defeat its object, and that, given sufficient time to gather the fruits, a reduction of taxation will run a better chance than an increase in taxation, in balancing the budget.” - John Maynard Keynes more

Resolved Question: Help on closing a limited company?

Hi I am looking for a bit of help with regards to what I need to do about shutting down my limited company. I will explain my situation below: I am a director of a construction company that I started with my business partner in July 2009. We were both directors of the company but when we hit a bad patch he lost his nerve and sold his share of the company to me for £1. I became the sole director of the company but things didn’t get any better. To cut a long story short I am now left with a company that is in debt, has no real assets and no money at all in the company account. I owe just short of £5000 to suppliers that are on account and I have red letters arriving everyday so I cannot order any stock, I am tied down to a 5 year contract with my landlord with a 3 year breaker for the company office and this contract had a surety clause, but worse of all we were paid £7500 in advance for a contract that there is now no way we will be able to start yet alone complete as we have had to use the money for other debts. My staffs have just been paid but I have had no other option but to lay them all off as I just wont be able to pay them at the end of the month. As stated my bank balance is completely empty and I must stress that the banks have helped me in now way whatsoever so I have no overdraft or credit facilities. My personal credit rating in rubbish and I own no personal assets. I have had to use every penny I could get my hands on to pay wages and I cant even afford to pay the national insurance contributions I took from the staffs wages. We have no jobs booked in and no contracts waiting to start other than the one we cant afford to start. I would just like to know what I need to do to close down the limited company and what is going to happen to me personally. Would it be advisable for me to declare myself bankrupt or is that going too far? I would appreciate honest advice ONLY please. Oh and one last thing, I already know that it serves me right for buying the company share for £1 and I don’t need anyone telling me that!! Thanks in advance…Sorry UK answers only please and I don't need to know how I can make millions through fake websites either thanks. more

Voting Question: Should I let my business partner buy me out or work it out at my tattoo shop?

I am a tattoo artist who went into a partnership with an experienced shop owner. I opened a shop, all of the bills, lease, business license and company accounts are all in my name. I did everything by the book and took charge as a business owner- Little did I know that my partner was a complete control freak who did not want anything in his name. Soon, I was asked to step down as a "silent partner" and was asked not to perform certain duties, and became more like an employee. In efforts to gain more control my partner asked to take over rent and started construction and other projects. The shop is about 5 months old now, and I am not any kind of asset to a shop I started. He brought in a whole staff I am not allowed to talk to, therefore it discouraged me to even go in! This started out as my dream and now is something I don't even know anymore...with MY NAME ALL OVER EVERYTHING! If anyone can help me with some business advise i would appreciate it. more

Voting Question: Are you for or against feminism?

I am against it. Feminism is a joke because it is not about equality but selfishness. Women wanted to take on mens roles but have proven in 40 years that they have not done everything men usually do. They have not started any productive movements to lead, built anything or take on the certain jobs of men to bring back to their families. Politics and Feminism has further destroyed the concepts of female happiness and marriage which is the reason for the high divorce rates, declining marriage, increased rates of homosexualism and lesbianism. Usually when i come home from work my wife always has a meal prepared for me and stored in the microwave, she comes home earlier than me and eats so she creates some for me too, why shouldn't she, how is that submissiveness? Women are important because they are a necessity for the survival of men, women and children. I feel if women wanted rights they should have taken a different approach... •You can't be pregnant and working as a firefighter. •You can't ask for a man to be the provider when you earn enough providing for yourself. •You can't ask to take on mens roles but do not contribute to any form of infrastructure / construction. •You can't ask for a REAL MAN when you taken on the obligations of REAL MEN. The fact women only chose to take on CERTAIN roles of men verifies the purpose of feminism which is selfishness. The reason why feminism is a joke is because there are just certain things women are just no supposed to do. It undermines femininity because in the end you are taking on OUR roles to prove your WORTH as a woman. Not furthering womanly roles or creating your own new type of businesses. Women should have gone about it a different way and now the unfortunate result is we have more problems and less happiness. I hope you are satisfied with your results.AirWOman - Are you forgetting who's seed your carrying? Shouldn't you be cooking for someone? more

Resolved Question: Oil Could Rise to over $100 a barrel, Will People walk/bike more and drive less?

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/05/business/05oil.html Oil prices are rising fast, as Russia becomes the largest oil exporter in the world outpacing Saudi Arabia. Analysts say oil prices will rise above the $100 a barrel mark in the first three months of 2010 as the US economy picks up. That could translate into over $5.00 a gallon in some states. Will this change the American lifestyle? Will this accelerate mass transit and High-Speed train construction? Will people start to walk and bike more and park their car? Resolved Question: What is the best most simple way to keep track of the books for a small construction/flooring business?

I have just started my own flooring business specializing in installing & refinishing floors. This is something that I have years of experience doing and I have done many, many cash jobs on my own prior to this. I have set everything in place such as filings with the state, business account and checks, subcontractors etc. I have recently purchased Quikbooks for my Mac because I have heard from many people that it is the easiest way to keep track of everything. I have since paid 2 different accountants to come over and help guide me through using this system & I am still totally overwhelmed. There just seems to be way too many variables that go into play with every single transaction and it feels like it is overkill for my needs. Is it easier to just keep receipts, & bank statements from my business account? I know that this will not be as organized, but it just seems like it would be easier to keep these records and go give them to a tax accountant at the end of the year. Any help and or advice will be greatly appreciated. I am extremely stressed over the bookkeeping portion of running my small business. Thanks more

Voting Question: Who Regulates LLC Businesses? (Limited Liability Company)?

Happy New Year all.... I am looking to work for a company that has only been in business for TWO years. I "Googled" the company but very little information comes up about the company. NO NEGATIVE information, however, not really ANY kind of information at all. The company's Website is NEW and still under construction. The Better Business Bureau does not have any information on this company because of 1. This is a NEW company 2. It is a Business to Business Company (not really for consumers). This is a Company that offers SERVICES to other Business. I am hired as an Independent Contractor and for the first 30-days, I will be using alot of my OWN resources until my first payment in 30days. This company DOES NOT ask for any money or funds for start up AT ALL. They don't ask for anything actually, with the exception that I take a RISK and work for them with a promise that I will get paid after 30days. So my question I guess is..... Is there a State or Government Agency that regulates business under LLC (Limited Liability Company) . The Company is headquartered in the Mid-West, however is authorized to do businesses in other states. I am in California and this company does business in California. So, who should I turn to to find out if this company IS IN FACT a legitimate company and authorized to do business as an LLC? Would it be the Department of Corporations? The Fair Trade Commission? Secretary of State? Also, IF for some reason, I do not get paid as promised in 30days, who should I report it to? Would it be the Department of Corporations? The Fair Trade Commission? Secretary of State? What protection should I take for myself? Thanks much everyone in advance! more

Resolved Question: how come we as Americans don't work as hard as the Spanish or Asian people?

Like Spanish people will live a bunch to a house and work together to buy the house and then start their own construction company or something like that. Asian people also work together to start their own restaurant business. But why don't us Americans work together or as hard as the Asians or Spanish people who come here with less than what we have, but end up having more than the average american? more

Resolved Question: Why would the army be dragged into ridicule by a statement that was never made and has been retracted by news?

http://www.asiantribune.com/news/2009/12/23/former-army-commander%E2%80%99s-statement-cause-damage-country%E2%80%99s-economy The only item that is up for ridicule is the UN statement surrounding utter fabrication and conjecture by wholly unreliable news sources. That - an a great hoot being had at the FBI and CIA offices. The RCMP and Interpol are probably having a chuckle also. BTW- THANK YOU CANADA FOR THE MOST EXCELLENT REFUSAL-TO-VOTE FOR RADICAL EXRTREMISM AND TERRORISM 40K OUT OF 350K!! http://nz.news.yahoo.com/a/-/entertainment/6617979/sri-lankas-tsunami-recovery-dogged-by-graft-delays/ Why would the World Bank once again be issuing funds to the Nation Building Ministry when the previous allotments are largely unaccounted for? There is certainly no reason to be disbursing funds for an irrigation project months ahead of weather conducive to actually conducting work. There are also many INGOs that have been tracked along with NGOs that have spent 85-90% of funds on their administrative fees and only utilized 10% for people's benefit. Thirdly, there is also the issue that at least 50% of the funds went directly into LTTE coffers which purchased unbelievable amounts of weaponry, built luxury bunkers and purchased aircrafts and vessels to conduct war against the sovereign state as well as against innocent civilians. The World Bank as well as the UN should have a complete history of how funds were earmarked for distribution and if they are still lacking the former PM and President should be legally responsible for accounting for these funds. The World Bank and the UN should also be insisting that people who do not have adequate shelter such as those who are in IDP camps be temporarily resettled in available housing from post-tsunami construnction in the South. Without any uncertainty there is no chance that housing can be erected in Mannar or Muthuur in the next few months as post-monsoonal conditions will still require months of land stabilization and evaporation of ambient moisture prior to decent facility builds. I have certainly seen enough pictures of shoddy construction done by the likes of Red Cross and Caritas - I am certainly not insinuating that all the work that these 2 organizations do is shoddy but a bulk of dwellings in Sri Lanka did not meet basic safety or living standards. Sri Lanka also has a compiled list of INGOs and NGOs that have not been able to account for even a fragment of funding they were entrusted with and many just picked up checks and walked away. Because if the terrorist situation many areas were competely inaccessible to government monitoring and the only person who had access from within the Central Government was the Former PM, Ranil Wickremesinghe. Former President Chandrika Kumaratunga also had access to quite a bit of funds through the Red Cross as well as family run NGOs. These persons all have multiple citizenships and their foreign accounts as well as those of their civic and non-profit affiliates should be reviewed. It is not as if the World Bank or the UN is at a loss of how to trace such and why they have not done so up to this point is only questions that they themselves can and must answer. Both organizations were repeatedly warned by multiple sources and it was a great source of consternation by many in the government for blissful ignorance is just another name for gross mismanagement. Each and every time it was brought to attention of officials of such "hallowed" organizations the complaints were dismissed. The default is not on the part of Sri Lanka the default is due to Lender and/or Donor negligence. This is the same issue that is encountered worldwide whne these organizations do not conduct business with due diligence but it is certainly no reason to hold an entire country accountable for the excess of cocktail parties and the lack of project management displayed. There is already a list of INGOs/NGOs that are part of a dossier for when we (Sri Lanka) started investigating areas as they were cleared from terrorist control we (Sri Lanka) found that many of the alleged projects were either never started or never completed. There are certainly corrupt officials but they are certainly not limited to Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka also does not owe for the utter disservice to our sovereign nation created by politically motivated non-government organizations that chose to support a terror network that has been repeatedly referred to as the most deadliest terrorist organization in the world. It is not Sri Lanka's fault that certain people found it chic, exiting or lucrative to feast on the utter detruction of my lands and peoples to be able to say that they broke bread with Pabraharakhan or some other LTTE leader. There are certainly enough persons that have come into inexplicable wealth and enough hedge funds that cannot account for their growth as well as enough wars and terrorist organizations being funded globally for TI or any such organization to pierce tCHECK DRAFTS NOW VOLKES/BEN BCHECK DRAFTS NOW BEN B/VOLKESCHECK DRAFTS NOW BEN B/VOLKES/HUCHECK DRAFTS NOW BEN B/VOLKES/HU/VLADIMIR more

Resolved Question: Do I need to make claim for repair, or is my contractor liable?

We bought a newly built house a little over a year ago which had a 1yr warranty on the construction. About 5 months in, we noticed the wood flooring in front of the kitchen sink had started to warp really bad. We called our builder to come out and he also brought the plumbing contractor he had used on our house. It turned out that the hose connection on our kitchen sink faucet that pulls out from the base had become loose, allowing water to leak and run down the back of the cabinet and then seep in to the wood floor. The plumber actually said that this issue was a known problem for the faucet he installed and proceeded to crimp the hose connection, thereby sealing it so it wouldn't become loose again. The three of us agreed that we would wait a few months for the wood floor to dry out to see the extent of the damage and go from there. The builder said that he would have to take it up with the plumbing contractor at that time if any repairs were needed. Fast forward to this month where, after having the heater running for weeks, the planks in the wood floor really dried out and now there are about 1/8 inch gaps that run about 2-6 feet on some of the planks. We called our builder and he sent out his wife, who runs the wood floor business that put in our flooring. She came out and said that she would give us an estimate for the repair and that *we* would have to contact the plumber to get him to pay for the fixes. We realized after she left that they had totally changed their tune. At first they made it seem like they would fix the floors and deal with the plumber. Now it seems like they're basically saying we can hire them to fix the floors, but if the plumber is going to pay any money, it's up to us to handle getting it from him. I don't think that's right since the damage occured while our house was under warranty, which makes the builder responsible for any damage caused by his sub-contractors. They are a very nice couple which makes this especially tough. I don't want to have to get lawyers involved unless I'm totally sure that we are in the right. Any thoughts? There are statutes in my state regarding damages that result from defective construction. Essentially, it's like an honor system for licensed contractors and I downloaded a pdf that explains the whole process of filing a claim with the state's Construction Contractor's board. Thanks, everyone for your advice so far. more

Resolved Question: I have the weirdest boyfriend ever...?

So my boyfrind is a very interesting individual. I want to start with some background info. His mom died (drugs) when he was 14...everyone says he didn't cry at her funeral. He says he took it out on his dirtbike. He still talks about her, and only once has he said "I do miss the love from a female. I wish I had a mom to bring girlfriends home to". He basically has 2 dads (his real one and his step dad). They are 2 totally different people. One is very spiritual and hippie-like, the other is very manly-man (what I mean by that is very emotionaless). And that is the perfect way to describe my boyfriend. It is very apparent he doesn't know much about women. He never cries, gets upset, or anything. sometimes it comes across as very selfish. For instance, one night I asked him what he would do if I became a stripper (just for curiositys sake)...he said "there might be some jealousy, but I would get over it."....soo ok. He moved in with me a couple of months ago because his lease was up and has been out of work (he does construction). He does help me pay rent and everything. But my lease is up in March. I recently became unemployed and know that I cannot use unemployment as an income on another apartment. So I asked him what he wanted to do. He said he wants to go stay with one of his dads so that he can keep working for himself mand not pay for any rent and eventually start his own business. He thinks I should go back and live with my dad. I took it as a huge step backwards in our relationship to stop living together. He doesnt. The other night we got in HUGE fight about it where i basically told him I don't feel like a priority of his and that he just doesn't care about me. I'm not asking for flowers or "I love you" 10x a day....just for him to every now and again do something to make me feel special. He just kinda sat there and stared at me very blankly. I went on and on and on for hours and even broke up with him. And nothing. He was just like "well can I stay here for the night?". Nonetheless, we actually made up. Well....I made up. he didn't really do anything. We're ok now, but I'm just trying to get in this guys head and figure him out. He cuddles me everynight in bed, holds my hand in public, etc. but he is sooo stand-offish. How do I get him to open up more? I know that deep down, below the blank stares and unemotion, there has to be something? right? This guy didn't even cry at his mom's funeral. Am I the one thats weird? more

Resolved Question: Perfect Example On How Obama's Stimulus Plan Is Bad For The Economy?

My father has owned a restaurant for 25 years and has stayed in business in the same location because of great food and customer service. It carries a good reputation in town. The town we live in got some of the stimulus money Obama promised would create jobs. The town has used some of this money to "fix" the intersection where my fathers restaurant operates. Nothing is wrong with the intersection, they are just giving it a makeover within 200 yards of the intersection each way. This is supposed to take 16 months to do and attract more businesses. They started in August and ever since the construction started my dad's restaurant and all the business at the intersection are suffering because no one wants to drive through a construction site with mud and hard bumpy gravel, slow/stop sign holders, with cones and equipment scattered all over the place. Yesterday my father told me he has to shut down the restaurant because of the slow business. He doesn't think it will survive by the time they are done with construction. He's 60 years old, what other job can he do other than run his restaurant? What about his employees? he has 20 full time employees and some have stayed at the restaurant since they first opened in 1985. Are 25 temp jobs for alcoholics and deadbeat dads at a construction site worth losing 20 people who have made a career with my father's restaurant? No! Also how attractive is that intersection going to look when it has abandoned buildings surrounding it? Thank You Obama for giving this town the money to waste on something it didn't need so my father can go out of business and have my entire family suffer. Thank you very much Obama. I voted for you, but will never again. Do you think it's Obama's fault....technically?You know what is really sad? Is since the construction is paid for by taxpayer money, my father basically paid for his own business to shut down. more

Resolved Question: Do I have a chance at becoming a hustler?

I'm in high school right now and I'm located in a country(was U.S.A, right now... in continent of asia) which I suppose has a very bright future, since I was a kid , It was my dream to always end up in a high flying blue collar job somewhere up in Wall Street and slowly become a partner of big firms, but I have so many ambitions, but my wall street dreams deviated once I moved to the land of the software people, I have so much on my mind, I'm currently taking the Business and Commerce stream in my high school and most of my classes are cakewalks for me, I used to flunk half the time in tenth with science and math, I still have math but I mean the Business Studies textbook and Economics textbooks come to me naturally, I dont even have to study for tests and I can ace them, I savour every bit of these books... I'm not an einstein at math so acing the SAT test and landing in some Ivy league is not my priority, it is to me, still a dream. But one great thing I got going for myself right now , sorry if I sound like an oppertunist(hey, told ya I wanted to be a hustler), but right now, I go to one of the most prestigious schools in my city and I have politician's sons as my friends, and construction baron descendants sitting behind my chair, I mean, I know people to can make things happen with a clap. When I get back to the states, I plan to go to a decent B-School and bachelor in accounting, as that is the blood of all forms of business and it would help me become business literate, and then I plan to major in Finance....after that, I plan to become an ERP consultant in case any of my plans dont work as I obviously need a back-up strategy, I will later use the initial salary earned for my ambitions should anything go haywire.....but if the wind is right, I plan to use some of my "connections"(trust me, not petty people, close people too) as my venture capitalists, to start my own soft-drink company, and after a few years, I plan start a construction/real estate company (like TRUMP)and take both of my companies public, eventually I also would like to fullfill my dreams of starting an electric automobile company along with a Insurance company. My dad(who was a small time restuarant owner), has a little idea about my plans, as I told him, but I didn't exactly give him the blueprint I gave you guys even though I think he has an Idea. All I want to know is am I being too overconfident or am I correct about my timing? I consider my self very fortunate to have the right things happen to me so far, its like everything is lined up for me, all I got to do is shoot. I know exactly how hard it is to fulfill dreams, everybody has dreams, only some fulfill it. My mom say isn't exactly pessimistic but she knows me and my network, and I dont think the chances I have aren't something I'm overmining, am I? Let's think about it, sons of politicians, sons of barons as my friends, potential backers, dreams of mine...they can pay for. See, I dont want to act overconfidant and start crying if any of these visions actually get nowhere, but I'm a person who believes in vision, and I wouldn't even rely on just my contacts to get me anywhere, but I can trick a person into buying their own shoes.....Plus I have great managerial skills.... So I'm being optimistic. Is everything in my favour? more

Voting Question: In a Company owned by 3 Individuals..?

We (3 individuals) are starting together a small business establishment (Consultancy and Maintenance work). The company deals with Manpower supply to companies, sub-contracting of manpower and also undertake Maintenance work and sub-contracted construction projects. Out of the 3 people, one person holds 40% of the share of the company and the remaining 2 people holds 30% share each. I am trying to assign designation for the 3 people. Could some one help me with any suggestion you might have. Thank You.Yes. My question was what each one may be called? Like for Eg: The person who gets 40% of the profit, will he be called Executive director or CEO or General Manager. And what would the other 2 people who get 30% of the profit be called? And Damien.. yes.. we are currently in to dealing with manpower requirements (human resources), but at a later stage we will be undertaking maintenance work. But thats later. more

Resolved Question: What are the Best Fashion Schools (Uni's) in the United Kingdom? (England preferred)?

I'm looking for a course which offers a University Degree in Fashion Design and/or Fashion Marketing. The area in England I am most interested in is London. What are the best fashion schools in London? The three schools I have researched are AIU (American InterContinental University [London Campus]), LCF (London College of Fashion) and St. Martins (Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design). All these schools I have listed are asking for atleast 2 C's at A-Level to gain entry in a design course. Can anyone suggest any other schools to be which they may have went to and thought were really good and have notable alumni? I'm looking for a school which offers the best education (in design and construction skills). Also, a school which has the latest equipment and educates it's students in state of the art buildings (I know that's a little random but no one wants to be working with old equipment in a dull, old building which wouldn't be very motivating!) I know it's hard to be able to get into these schools as the industry is growing rapidly so I'll tell you a little abit about myself and hopefully it it will help you answer the question: I am a British Citizen (born and grew up in Northern Ireland) and educated by the UK Education System. I have 10 GCSE's - 8 passed (B's in Business and LLW; C's in English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Art & Design, Digital Technolgy [2]) and 2 failed (D in Science and E in Religion). I am back in school doing my A-Levels in Applied ICT, Business and Art & Design and am expected to get an A in Business, a B in Applied ICT and a C in Art & Design. I will be finishing school around May 2011 and hoping to move to London that Summer to be able to start university in September. I have had some (little) experience in the design industry before working for a local designer and I am currently learning to sew. PS: I will also need to look for somewhere to live in London as I'm moving from Northern Ireland. What is the typical monthly rent price for somewhere in London and where could I start looking for places?Well thanks for your advice. I feel great now. Lmao. I haven't researched St. Martins much. AIU is what I want and just because I got a C in GCSE Art and am expected to get a C at A-Level doesn't mean I'm not good. People forget that there is certain work that you HAVE to do in order to get the grade whether you like it on not. When I get to do my own thing and not something I HAVE to do to get a grade, I'm able to do it & stay focused. I am passionate about design & I'd kill to be a designer. People just can't say no just because you're not amazing at drawing or painting. Some designers I know do very little drawing, some even do no drawing at all! They may just use Design Software on a computer. Lets say you're doing a topic for Art and you choose Nature. Accurately drawing a leaf from first hand isn't designing. Just cos I'm not good at that doesn't mean I'm not good at design. It's just something you HAVE to do to pass. I don't want to be an Artist/Painter. I want to be a Designer more

Resolved Question: Ladies! Would you do this for your man?

Every day you work from 7am till 10pm - you cook, clean and do not do as much physical labor at your man but you surely do the same if not more mentally. Resolved Question: Do you think Obama has ever read the Book Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, I just finished it last week?

It was 1168 pages long took me two weeks to get through it, easly the Best book that I have ever read, my wife is now reading it, The book seems to really mirror what is going on today's Government, Especially the new Obama administration. here is a quick snapshot of the book from the Wall Street Journal. (WSJ Article) Ayn Rand, who had come to America from Soviet Russia with striking insights into totalitarianism and the destructiveness of socialism, was already a celebrity. The left, naturally, hated her. But as recently as 1991, a survey by the Library of Congress and the Book of the Month Club found that readers rated "Atlas" as the second-most influential book in their lives, behind only the Bible. For the uninitiated, the moral of the story is simply this: Politicians invariably respond to crises -- that in most cases they themselves created -- by spawning new government programs, laws and regulations. These, in turn, generate more havoc and poverty, which inspires the politicians to create more programs . . . and the downward spiral repeats itself until the productive sectors of the economy collapse under the collective weight of taxes and other burdens imposed in the name of fairness, equality and do-goodism. In the book, these relentless wealth redistributionists and their programs are disparaged as "the looters and their laws." Every new act of government futility and stupidity carries with it a benevolent-sounding title. These include the "Anti-Greed Act" to redistribute income (sounds like Charlie Rangel's promises soak-the-rich tax bill) and the "Equalization of Opportunity Act" to prevent people from starting more than one business (to give other people a chance). My personal favorite, the "Anti Dog-Eat-Dog Act," aims to restrict cut-throat competition between firms and thus slow the wave of business bankruptcies. Why didn't Hank Paulson think of that? These acts and edicts sound farcical, yes, but no more so than the actual events in Washington, circa 2008. We already have been served up the $700 billion "Emergency Economic Stabilization Act" and the "Auto Industry Financing and Restructuring Act." Now that Barack Obama is in town, he will soon sign into law with great urgency the "American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan." This latest Hail Mary pass will increase the federal budget (which has already expanded by $1.5 trillion in eight years under George Bush) by an additional $1 trillion -- in roughly his first 100 days in office. The current economic strategy is right out of "Atlas Shrugged": The more incompetent you are in business, the more handouts the politicians will bestow on you. That's the justification for the $2 trillion of subsidies doled out already to keep afloat distressed insurance companies, banks, Wall Street investment houses, and auto companies -- while standing next in line for their share of the booty are real-estate developers, the steel industry, chemical companies, airlines, ethanol producers, construction firms and even catfish farmers. With each successive bailout to "calm the markets," another trillion of national wealth is subsequently lost. Yet, as "Atlas" grimly foretold, we now treat the incompetent who wreck their companies as victims, while those resourceful business owners who manage to make a profit are portrayed as recipients of illegitimate "windfalls." When Rand was writing in the 1950s, one of the pillars Rand, who had come to America from Soviet Russia with striking insights into totalitarianism and the destructiveness of socialism, was already a celebrity. Voting Question: RES swimming funny...I fear pneumonia. Can't go to vet for variety of reasons. Help! Anything I can do?

We have had some construction going on for a few days, which has had our front door open (created a draft). One of my turtles started swimming funny this afternoon. I can't tell whether GI problem or pneumonia. Husband just started new business, construction is from major leak, christmas is upon us, and we just had a new baby 3 weeks ago...I can't afford the vet right now, but obviously don't want Franklin to die. Any suggestions? I have raised water temp by a few degrees already. more

Resolved Question: Does my husband qualify for SS Disability?

I know there's a review process, but before we start, I want to see if it's worth it. He's 41, but has joint pain and mental issues (much like severe ADD) from a bout with Lyme's Disease. He also has Irritable Bowel Syndrome and severe neuropathy in his feet and hands. In pain most of the time and has the obvious issues with IBS. The mental issues equate to being scattered, unfocused and frustrated due to inability to process information quickly, and when overwhelmed, at all. This pretty much eliminates his ability to go back into construction (very labor intensive) or effectively run his previous photography business. Any thoughts? Please don't lead me to spam websites, as I will report abuse.has anyone ever faced the same and got qualified? more

Resolved Question: Is it a good essay about satire?

look, here my essay, in it i need to use satire and talk about whatever, but i dont know if i did a good job, can someone tell me if im wrong please?? A reflection about global Warming During the last couple years humans have used most of the natural resources without controlling their use, thus, causing thousands of problems in our planet and the environment; but global warming has been one of the most important problems in our today’s life. Without thinking in the consequences, we, the humans are still destroying our planet by using its resources and we cannot do anything about it because we are too lazy and we cannot ride a bicycle to get to school, or we do not want to spend millions of dollars to change all of the gas systems of cars to replace them into hydrogen or electric systems. One of the most stupid reasons why we cannot do something to stop global warming is that politicians are more interested in save millions of dollars because they do not want to pay the cost required to stop global warming. Politicians are not enforcing laws to reduce the use of cars and fuels, or stopping the sell of oil to other countries, but it does not really help us because anyways the economy in the world is getting worse. Global warming could not be stopped but it could be controlled by reducing pollution. Pollution could be reduced reducing the use of cars, but it cannot be possible because we are too lazy to walk one or two blocks just to go shopping. Walk could help us not just to reduce pollution, but it could help us to make some exercise and reduce the amount of fat that we get daily in our bodies when we eat those huge hamburgers, but also eating hamburgers can help to reduce global warming because those hamburgers are made of beef and cows contribute to global warming too, because when they thrown out of their body. In a usual process of body mechanism they burp this has many gases like ethane, methane etc. which destroys or pollutes the ozone layer, and eating more beef hamburgers means less cows in the world , and then the pollution would reduce, but humans cannot blame those animals for this problem in which we are the main responsible. However with the temperatures on the rise the icebergs and polar ice caps are melting. This is but a miraculous thing. For one the coastline will go inland a couple hundred miles. Thus people who have property along the new coast will have an increase in property value, due to their property now being beachfront property. Also fruits that thrive close to the coastline, such as citrus fruits, would flourish close to the new coastline, bringing fruits closer to other places and reducing the cost of shipping the fruits. This would reduce the amount of impoverished countries around the world. With no more icebergs or polar ice caps naval passage with be much easier. Also captains will not have to worry about running into any icebergs, and recreating another titanic experience. Over-sea shipments or cruises will not take as long because the captains would not have to avoid any icebergs. Also the use of cement is affecting our environment because we get it from the burning of limestone, a process which generates so much carbon dioxide, a gas that affect the ozone layer and rise temperatures in our planet. We could stop the use of cement by reduce the constructions of houses and start to live with more people under the same roof. Another point is that we could live without the use of electricity, which is created by burning coal, oil, or gas, and it contributes to global warming, but we are scared to the darkness and we do not want to live in a world where we could not go out in the night. Technology is not the solution, but I personally think that technology is the problem, I’m sure that we could all just do fine without heat in the winter, or air conditioning in the summer. On the winter, we simply huddle together to keep warm. When it’s hot, we weave reeds together to make fans, and take turns fanning each other. You will also have no further need for refrigeration when you follow the next suggestion. You should be eating fresh, raw, natural foods anyway. Animals are not here to serve us. We are here to serve them (Baked, boiled, broiled, or barbecued.). Growing a garden not only gives you the food you need to nourish your body, but it nourishes the spirit as well, as you commune with Earth Mother tending to her bountiful vegetation. Personal hygiene is over rated. Our counties all over the country provide us with all the water we need from natural sources. At the commune, we can identify each other, merely by sense of smell. It’s the way Nature intended. But if we see global warming from other perspective we can see that it is not a real problem for us because as the world warms up people will not have to heat their house. This is beneficial in many aspects. Not only will this save homeowners and businesses money. It will also use less natural gas, which can be sav more

Resolved Question: Is my boss doing any thing wrong?

Im in michigan and I work for a moving/construction cleanup/hauling company. My boss owns the company and from what i can tell he runs the business out of his house. My concerns are that he does not give me a fixed schedule, he pays me in cash, and sometimes doesnt even pay me for the full amout of time I have worked, and I DID NOT fill out a w-2 or 1099 before i started working there. Im pretty sure he is not taking any taxes out of my wages, one time he even rushed me away because the department of transportation rep was comng and apparently all employees are required to have a CDL and i do not. I want to confront him about the money e owes mw but i want specific ammo to gain some leverage, plz help me.Thank you all for the answers, I just want to clarify things, I absolutely intend to resign as soon as he pays me what i am owed, and he doesn't know the info nessecary about me to fill out a 1099, he pretty much only knows my first name. Also where can I report his shady business tactics, he tells me on moves to sit down when the customer isn't around so the move takes longer, also he drags his feet when moving always taking smoke breaks, I know there is the BBB but honestly that has no power. more

Resolved Question: I see a lot of curiosity over Obama sending in more troops. Does this clear it up?

America supported Bin Laden and the Taliban for years, and viewed them as freedom fighters against the Russians. As late as 1998, the US was paying the salary of every single Taliban official in Afghanistan. There is more oil and gas in the Caspian Sea area than in Saudi Arabia, but you need a pipeline through Afghanistan to get the oil out. UNOCAL, a giant American Oil conglomerate, wanted to build a 1000 mile long pipeline from the Caspian Sea through Afghanistan to the Arabian Sea. UNOCAL spent $10,000,000,000 on geological surveys for pipeline construction, and very nicely courted the Taliban for their support in allowing the construction to begin. All of the leading Taliban officials were in Texas negotiating with UNOCAL in 1998. 1998-1999 the Taliban changed its mind and threw UNOCAL out of the country and awarded the pipeline project to a company from Argentina. John Maresca VP of UNOCAL testified before Congress and said no pipeline could be built until the Taliban was gone and a more friendly government was established. 1999-2000 The Taliban became the most evil people in the world. 9/11 WTC disaster... Bush goes to war against Afghanistan even though none of the hijackers came from Afghanistan. Bush blamed Bin Laden but has never offered any proof saying it's a "secret". Taliban offered to negotiate to turn over Bin Laden if we showed them some proof. America refused; America bombed. Bush said: "This is not about nation building. It's about getting the terrorists." Afghanistan has a new government. The leader of that government formerly worked for UNOCAL. Bush appoints a special envoy to represent the US to deal with that new government, who formerly was the "chief consultant to UNOCAL". The Bush family acquired their wealth through oil. Bush's Secretary of Interior was the President of an oil company before going to Washington. George Bush Sr. now works with the "Carlysle Group" specializing in huge oil investments around the world. Condoleezza Rice worked for Chevron before going to Washington. Chevron named one of its newest "supertankers" after Condoleezza. Dick Cheney worked for the giant oil conglomerate Haliburton before becoming VP. Haliburton gave Cheney $34,000,000, as a farewell gift when he left Haliburton. Haliburton is in the pipeline construction business. There is $6 Trillion dollars worth of oil in the Caspian Sea area. The US government quietly announces Jan 31, 2002 they will support the construction of the Trans-Afghanistan pipeline. President Musharref (Pakistan), and Karrzai, (Afghanistan...ex-Unocal) announce agreement to build the proposed gas pipeline from Central Asia to Pakistan via Afghanistan. 2009 America still cannot quell Taliban opposition enough to safely start construction on the pipeline. Obama sends 30,000 more troops. Is there any question why Obama sent more troops? more

Voting Question: Just a little beginning to my book please tell me what you think.?

This is just the beginning to my book. This girl and her family are moving to a new place. After the girl gets comfortable later on and meets new friends she is going to find an old ragged book at a second hand store that catches her eye. The book eventually takes the girl and her freinds on different adventures. I just want to see what people think of how I am starting it out. Thanks I was sitting in the back seat of the car, my dad, Jim was driving while my mom sat on the passenger side. My face was pressed against the glass of my window, I could feel the coldness, like ice, on my face, being since it was fourty something degrees outside. While I sat there with my head rested all I could do was daydream about what was going to happen, having to move to a new town: The fact of moving didn't thrill me at all. Being seventeen meant a new school, new freinds and new places. I didn't know how I was going to cope with all of this, though meeting new people seemed interesting. The only things that really bothered me more about the idea was the fact of leaving my old house that I practically grew up in and leaving all my friends behind. I knew I could write to them and see them occasionally, but it was still agonizing to me. I kept playing it over and over in my mind about how the new place was going to be. We were moving from Alabama which is a very warm state all the way to Minnesota, which meant cold weather. The cold doesn't bother me though. So that I could live with. "Lizzy, are you okay back there?" my mom asked. "You havn't said a word since we left the house two hours ago." After taking a deep breath I answered her. "I am fine mom, just thinking." Out the corner of my eye I could see her starring at me. I don't know why she does that, she knows it bothers me when I am starred at. My mom was very attractive, her hair was dark and half way down her back, her skin was slightly pale and she had the prettiest blue eyes I had ever seen, and having a body to die for. I have always been very close to my mom, more like best freinds. My dad on the other hand was a totally different story, I didn't get to see him much, he was always working, actually, that is why we are moving, so he can go with his job. He works with a construction company building those big, fancy mansion like homes. When the company found better business oppurtunities, it didn't take them long to decide to up and move. more

Voting Question: would it be wrong to work if you need to make extra money.?

i need to make some extra money for mostly health care cost, believe me its not just because i am saving up for that trip to the bahamas, i have a ok job now its not my dream job but it has some benefits and that's better than none even though they don't cover much of what i need done for my family, i use to work in the construction Field and i have a trade that is in demand and i have allot of equipment to do this trade and do it well i was very good at what i did i am interested in trying to make some money here and there, building and installing the things i use to, would this be wrong ? i am afraid because i am not a contractor, but kind of the way i am starting to look at it is the big bad wolf is after me, and i can fight and use the skills that i have or just lay down and die. if i work for some one on the side they take all the profits and use me. what should i do, i would make every thing legal is i thought it was cost effective but its not, i am not talking about running a full time Business just making money on the side doing good work for people, what do you think. more

Resolved Question: I am getting extremely hot while sleeping and I can no longer sleep through the night. Why?

About a month ago I've been waking up periodically through out the night because I become unbearably hot. The first time it was simply because the heater was on high but for the past few weeks I've just been shedding blankets and clothes and I'm still waking up feeling very hot. I've been opening up the window... in November just to get my temperature down. Now a construction crew has decided to start their business at seven in the morning and I am unable to get any rest. My father also died last month, I'm not sure if maybe that is affecting me but it doesn't make sense. I'm 21, in pretty good health outside of the fact that I have not slept through the night in a few weeks. I eat a balanced diet, I am going to school full time but I'm graduating in less than a month. I can't really think of any reason I'd be burning up... I'm pretty stressed but it's not anything I can help at the moment. I've been sleeping naked with a single sheet and I've never had this problem before. I'm usually hording blankets! Why is this happening? more
