West Tampa Chamber Updates Web Site

Taking advantage of interest in the area, the West Tampa Chamber of Commerce has revamped its Web site to promote the historical neighborhood and attract businesses and residents.

Launched this week, www .discoverwesttampa.com features a charming logo, West Tampa history and information about shops, restaurants and upcoming events. The site promotes chamber members and recognizes some businesses that are not in the organization.

Rolando Pozo, a chamber member and the board's Web site and technology director, said he created the original site about five years ago. It was a simple site that gave information about the chamber's meetings and board.

He had been coaxing the organization to create a more sophisticated Web site. Toward the end of last year, chamber members began to address the need for a Web site and banter about concepts. more

It's business as usual after officials close St. Cloud bridge

With light snow falling early in the morning, it was business as usual for many shops and restaurants along the Highway 23 Bridge detour route.

Lacie Gerads at Hourglass Cleaners said it was too early to tell how the closure could affect customers.

The dry cleaner is located just blocks from the closed bridge. Gerads said she thinks the store will do well, despite the closure, because many of the customers come in on their way to and from work downtown.

"One of our customers said that the bridge made it a little more difficult for him to make it in here, but he can still make it in so I know our good customers, our loyal customers will still make it in," said Gerads.

Starting A Coffee Shop Business Questions asked

Resolved Question: How to start a small business with bad credit and generally fixed income?

I filed bankruptcy with my husband 2 years ago, and I receive only disability payments every month that barely cover my living expenses. I no longer have a desire to use credit cards- I use only debit now and checks, or cash, and I have been up to date with bills since then. I'd like to get a government grant to rent a nearby building for an office space/coffee-shop type venture; anything that would involve the process of writing poetry, stories, books...I have no business experience but alot of ideas and dreams. I'd like to be able to 1) rent or lease property, 2)clean up the property (it's been abandoned for years) 3)furnish with couch, chair, desk, computer, shelves, etc. 4)stock with office supplies, snacks, coffee-type drinks...5)have a few employees for accounting & legal help, cleaning & maintenance, and 6)clientele who are artists of the pen and paper (writer's and poets who want to be published, as I hope to be someday) I live in SE WI. Any serious guidance would be welcome... more

Resolved Question: Opening a Cafe/Coffee Shop...?

I am still in high school so i have time to pick courses and then go to college. I was wondering, in order to have a successful business, what classes should i take to lean towards business (high school) and then for college i am planning on going to school for business. I don't want to just jump in and open a cafe after college without going to business school or anything so i was wondering how can i prepare now in order to have successful business one day(opened in multiple locations etc.) and approximately how much is the start up cost?I want it to be a chain/company not just a little cafe more

Resolved Question: How do I get my business running?

This might sound odd, but I thought I'd ask for some advice because I really have no idea where to start. This is the story so far, which I'm hoping you can help with... For as long as I can remember I've had this same dream. The dream to open up a shop that offers everything I love and hold dear to the world outside. I want to open a bookshop, which is also a cute little cafe/bakery. And probably sells music and jewellery every once in a while. And has live music on occasion. And has days where kids come in and get read to. And is filled with vintage second hand shelves and furniture, with fairy lights and mismatched chairs and crockery, with old 50s classics crackling on a record player very quietly in a corner. Where there's a little cabinet behind the counter full of one of a kind first editions. Where the smell of fresh baking and book paper hits you as you walk through the door (the kind of door with a bell attached) I want to be the owner of somewhere really personal, really special. A place that highlights the faceless production line styles of certain well known bookshops and certain well known coffee houses. A place where you know the name of all the staff, and can dream away hour upon hour, lost in the worlds of the great minds of our past, sitting on a comfy old sofa with a hot chocolate. So this is my vision. As you might gather, I have a slightly overactive imagination. My problem is, I have no mind for business at all, I have no thousands of pounds of savings, I don't know the first thing about opening a shop, I don't know the legal implications, I basically don't know anything to do with business in any way shape or form. These are all things I am willing to find out. But I feel like there's so much I don't know that I don't know where to start, and I ws hoping someone could point me in the right direction... more

Resolved Question: Degrees/majors needed to start own cafe?

I want to open my own cafe/coffee shop when I'm older, but I'm not sure what degrees or majors I should be looking into in college. I'm a senior in high school, so I've still got some time, but college is fast approaching. I know I need to go in the direction of business, but what else? Thanks!Oh yes- I most DEFINITELY want to go to college for the love of learning. I want to know the ins and outs of business :) more

Resolved Question: why hasn't he called me?

I met this guy on an online date site, we chatted via email all day long, then he gave me his number and said to call him later because he prefers the phone call rather than text, I don't so I texted, we talked via text and email for another day or two and then we started talking on the phone, at least 3-5 times a day for about a week then we decided to meet up. His car was in the shop so I know it was slightly dangerous but I agreed to pick him up from his townhouse and grab a coffee. (we had exchanged numerous photos of family members and what not so I got a normal vibe) anyways we went to Starbucks got a coffee, and ended up sitting there talking for about 2 1/2-3 hours, we had great convo, dropped him back at his house and he said when are we gonna hang out again, I said whenever, then he said to set it up, that I was good at that. Long Long Long story short, I went on my way, and then the whole next day didn't hear from him which was weird because of the massive amounts of communication before, so I decided to text him myself at around 2:30, we chatted back and forth but then later on in the evening he texted me and said he was sorry but he was very busy for a change and would call me later on the phone. (he is preparing for a business trip leaving Saturday morning) Any way he never called, I haven't called or texted him today but it just seems weird, Am I just thinking too much about it all? OKAY that was my original question But now I also cannot understand why this fella has not contacted me, but continues to look at my profile on the site we met on every day at least twice a day, but still doesn't contact me, What the hell is going on in his mind.? Guys I need your answers?!?!? PLEASE?!?! more

Resolved Question: How do I get my husband to forgive me for losing a lot of our money?

A week ago I performed at open mic night at this coffee shop and this guy came up to me after I was done and told me he was a producer and he wanted to sign me so he gave me his card. Right away my husband told me not to call him because he thought he was shady but I didn't think so. I mean the business card looked legit and he said he was from a well known record company so I called him anyway and met with him and he said I just needed to make a demo tape for his boss and he would see if he liked it and if he did then I would get signed but he had a good feeling that he will. All I had to do was pay him $1500 for studio time and he will meet me at the studio so we can get started. So I emptied out most of me and my husband's savings and gave it to him, I thought it was a small investment for a good thing but it turned out I was scammed! The guy never showed up at the studio and the record company said they never heard of him and the number on his business card didn't work anymore. I told my husband about it and now he's mad at me and hasn't really talked to me in a couple of days. I understand that he's mad since this was the money we were saving to pay down on a house but I was hoping he would have forgiven me by now. I mean he does speak to me but its always so stiff and formal like he really doesn't want to speak to me but he only does when he has too. How do I get him to forgive me for this? Also do guys like it when there wives/gfs send them roses? more

Resolved Question: What's wrong with the NYC Mosque when Americans have handed over this country on a silver platter?

They're renting more an more retail space seeing as how Americans can't be bothered to open a business anymore. It's all about a cushy corporate 9-to-5 right? The highest growing demographic of property owners are Middle Easterners buying rotting real estate and fixing it for a profit (this is RAMPANT here in New York) Laundromats Delis Coffee Shops Low Income Housing They own a bulk of the cheap grocery stores welfare recipients shop at here in the North East Car Washes Auto Repair Shops Low Priced Supermarkets. So everyone sat back and allowed this to go on for 10 years and now all of the sudden you're SO SHOCKED they have the 110 Million dollars to build a Mosque on the most expensive land in the world? Next inline are the Asians who due to Wal-Mart and Apple are sitting on more money than God has. Let's see how surprised American Cons are when they start to take over one industry after another . Americans are really reaching a new low.Billy - exactly what is a true American?Joan - Us New Yorkers couldn't give less of a sh*t what you or the rest of America thinks. We had to endure 9/11. Not the rest of you who saw it on TV. Come here and you'll see Arabs already took over the city a LONG time ago. This mosque is just another hit.Ruth - You know why I say we? Because not only have I endured ridicule in the south and Mid-west for being a New York I've also seen more than one overweight redneck family in khaki shorts and sandals make a mockery of Ground Zero by treating like some sort of tourist attraction. Who the hells smiles and hugs like that in front of a mass grave? As if they're at a football game. This is why NYC has the attitudes we have more

Resolved Question: Public places to pass out flyers?

I am starting a tutoring business in the summer and I really need to advertise. Where are public places where I can hang up or pass out flyers? (Am I allowed to pass out flyers in drugstores and coffee shops?) more

Voting Question: Is he interested or not? Text him or not?

I know this question is probably hard to answer but here my situation: I work as a nanny during the summer and as I sat in front a coffee shop with the babies, two guys started talking to me. Just some friendly chit chat. One of them was really cute. He gave me his business card. Well, actually his friend suggested he'd give me his card. The cute guy seemed a bit more shy. Anyhow I texted the cute guy later that night and he texted me back immediately "def. happy to have met you. I hope we hang out soon'. When I told him I wanted to hang out, too, he suggested the weekend but waited till Friday night to ask me what my plans were for that night. I was busy and he was the next night. I don't know if he is not so straight forward or if he is not too interested. His last text was"I might work late tomorrow. but there's always a tomorrow night". What should I think about that? I haven't dated for a while because of a long term relationship and I just don't want to waste my time again with a guy who is like "meh, whatever". Should I text him and ask when he wants to hang out or should I wait till he texts? Gee, this makes me feel like I am 14 ;) more

Resolved Question: Legalize pot. Debate me.?

I'm just looking for someone to debate. I, for one, am completely for the legalization of marijuana. Give me any reason why Marijuana SHOULDN'T be legal and i will shoot it down. Marijuana is a deadly drug. - No, it is physically impossible to overdose on Marijuana. Well, Marijuana may lead teens to make potentially deadly decisions, such as getting into a car. - That's exactly why we SHOULD legalise it. In fact, as a teenager, i can say that it is easier to get a couple grams of weed than it is a six pack of bud. Because alcohol sale is REGULATED and prohibited for those under 21. Therefore, you legalize and REGULATE Marijuana; start selling it at gas stations and "coffee shops", and slowly "drug dealers" go out of business, and it becomes harder to get a hold of. Meaning LESS teenage "Marijuana related" deaths Marijuana is addictive. - Phsychologically yes. But so is sex. So is reading. Tv, video games. EVERYTHING is, at some level, phsychologically addictive. What Marijuana ISN'T, is PHYSICALLY addictive. Alcohol and Tobacco, both legal substances, are physically addictive. And yet they are legal. Every blunt you smoke funds South American drug cartels. - If you legalize, and regulate of course, the growth and production of Marijuana, then we can buy our weed knowing that we helped farmer jon earn a living, as opposed to having to buy it from the evil gangs. Marijuana kills brain cells. - So does holding your breath. I equate this argument to the "nana nana boo boo, im right your wrong" argument that my little sister says all the time. This is merely meant to be an end all argument for the completely misinforment anti-drug campaign. Marijuana contains cancer causing chemicals. - Radios, cellphones, televisions and microwaves all emit waves into the atmosphere that can cause cancer. The preservatives contained in 90% of the foods in a typical americans diet cause cancer. Drinking from a water fountain causes cancer. Cancer is an inevitable part of American society. Everything causes cancer. If you live long enough to avoid dying of another cause, you will eventually develop cancer. Seeing as Marijuana has not been proven to DIRECTLY CAUSE or ACCELERATE any known cancer, ( Such as tobacco being linked to lung cancer and emphysema ) I do not feel as if "Carcinogens" are a strong enough basis for illegalization. Its just a drug. You take it to escape reality. - Yes, that is also why people read books, watch movies, tv. Once again, an illegitimate argument present by a nonsense filled, propagandized, anti-drug campaign. Im kinda getting tired so im gonna stop. I feel as if i have presented enough reasons as to why it shouldn't be illegal, but if you have another, feel free to post it and i will present a logical argument. Oh yea, two quick reasons why it SHOULD be LEGALIZED. 1. As stated above, there is absolutely NO well devised reason that it should illegal. 2. The economy is pretty jacked up right now. As opposed to THROWING AWAY money to enforce laws against marijuana, lets CREATE jobs, CREATE taxes, and CREATE an entire new market to help get this economy back on track. So lets grow up and quit this childish "its a drug therefore its bad" thinking. And oh yea, LEGALIZE TODAY of course :)Huckleberry - I dont know when the drug campaigns started calling Marijuana dope. But Marijuana is, in fact, not dope. Dope is meth. Meth releases a surge of a chemical called dopamine into the body. Giving it the name dope. As for being slow and stupid, perhaps. But only for the duration of which you are under the influence. I can smoke at the end of a long day, to relax at home. When i dont need to be productive. And since there is no hangover, i can go right back to school the next day and maintain my 3.8 gpa. Debra D - Thank you very much :). But this isn't some lifelong dream of mine. Haha im just having fun. more

Voting Question: Where to start with starting a cafe?

I've had the dream of starting this business for quite a while, but just recently this little cafe, that is in literally the PERFECT location, opened up. I know why the pervious businesses failed there; its nothing I have to worry about. Where do I go from this point on with starting a cafe/ bakery? What sort of info should I have for a bank loan? Resolved Question: Why is the position of privatizing marriage almost completely ignored in the debate over same-sex marriage?

I had to re-post this question because people were not answering. Why should GOVERNMENT be in the Business of marriage? My thoughts are below. What are YOUR thoughts? Why should the government give special rights just because they have sex with someone and it's government approved? You may argue that well all those insurance "rights" that come with having a governmental marriage. My (other) gay uncle can't get married in the state he lives in but since he works for Microsoft, he does not need a document from the government to have his partner of 15 years covered. My lesbian aunt and her partner run a Coffee shop. They offer their employees HSA's and you know who loves their plain the most? The gay and lesbian employees. I talked to "Jake" and he claimed "Me and my partner spend a hell of a lot less money if your aunt put me on insurance." I would like to mention before anyone starts with any straw man bullshit is that I believe state laws that don't allow private companies not offer any benefits to same-sex couples is wrong. That is a perfect example of forcing one morals on another, which is evil. I hate to sound like a *mild* conspiracy theorist but don't you think it is strange that this valid argument get little to no attention in the media? Why not let people define marriage as THEY want it not what other people or the government wants to define it? Is because both conservatives and progressives want the state in our personal life's? I think so.Read this before you open your mouth and sound stupid:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marriage_privatization#Libertarian_advocacyElle, I could not agree with you more. Resolved Question: Considering a sales job, but have my doubts about the company?

I have an opportunity to take a commissioned sales job. I have tried many last year and have found many of them to be a bunch of baloney! Most promise you things and once you get involved & start working for them, you find out their lead system is not what they promised, or they set unqualified appts. for you to run, etc. I went to a presentation for an ad for a commissioned sales job. This man has his realty office in another little town. Anyway, he gave us a presentation about himself and what he wants to do to grow another business on the side. He tells us about himself and all the businesses he has started and made a lot of money with throughout the years. THey had a little rinky dink office space in my town they we could possibly use if we needed to bring a client in, but he suggested that we meet most the clients at their homes or a coffee shop. The opportunity sounds great, but then I started thinking over the weekend. If the man has made so much money with his other businesses in the past, would you not think he would have a complete nice ioffice set up for us to use. We asked for a business card, and he didnt think he had any, had his son go to the car to see if there were any. Said he doesnt deal with the people, he handles the behind the scenes stuff. I tried to google his business, realty office, etc. Didnt get anything with detailed info. Did show the realty office in the other town, but no other pertinent info. Looked on BBB, he isnt listed with them. Any suggestions as what I can do to see if this opportunity may be legit. I dont want to waste anymore time or money with a job offer that is worthless. more

Voting Question: Is advertising even worth it?

Ok, so I own a small coffee shop and ice cream shop. Everytime we advertise we end up spending more than the return. So we started doing "events" like parades and vendors in the park in the summer to get our name out there, we do sell some but it just ends up covering our costs to get there, the booth cost, sign making, gas, paying employees, etc. Print ads only reach people wanting DISCOUNTS. They come in with the coupon and the next time with another coupon, but never return to pay full price. Please advice. I am new to this business adventure, and beginning to lose hope. more

Resolved Question: Why do people rape other people?

I know that question sounds weird, but seriously is there something psychologically, or mentally wrong with their brains? Don't they realize how much pain and trauma the victim will possibly go through? There was this girl I was friends with for about two years (BUT NOT ANYMORE), and she would do the most stupid things to get any guys (Or mans) attention! I couldn't believe it! every time when her and I would hang out at the mall, walking around the city, go shopping, go to the movies, ect. She would make loud orgasm sounds to any guys that even looked at us for one second. She would also give them sexual, flirtatous, facial signals, (Now that is just ASKING for anyone to rape you.) Then after she does that crap, she would shout out "EWWWW! pervert!!!" or "EWWWW! ugly ass!!". It was really embarrassing and it got so annoying to were I just felt like punching her in the face. Eventually I stopped hanging out with her, talking to her, and being her friend. But anyway, why else would anyone dare to rape another human being and not think about the other persons feelings. Why would anybody do something so violent to someone!!! even if they're just minding their own business? I've never been raped but I have been molested by a family member when I was around six or seven years old. And there was this guy that I was on a date with, he asked me if I was a virgin, I said "yes". Then he started touching my waist and asked me "Can I eat you out?" I told him "no" he tried choking me when I tried getting the hell away from him. He grabbed me behind a big tree behind the public library and this Coffee place we went to. He covered my mouth and did oral on me even though he knew I didn't want it and I tried getting away. I was glad that a car drove by and reported this maniac to the police though. more

Voting Question: I need help with this asap Math project?

Step 1: Pick a business venture/ Think small like a cafe or a retail shop. What is the cost of production of wholesale cost for the primary product you want to sell. Now let's sell it. A typical markup in retail ranges from 25% to 300% above the wholeale cost. Find out how much your business will sell the product. Step 2: Find a loaction for your business. Look in the real estate section of a newspaper or check online. Find an appropriately sized place for the business and rent it. For example, small retail shop will need 1000 sq feet. Step 3: What will be your business store hours eacy day? How many employees will be needed for those hours? How much will you pay them? Will you need a manager or supervisor for the times when you wont be at your business? Managers expect more money than a refular employee. Minimum wage in ill is 7.50. Be reasonable to make sure your store makes a profit. due to Fica and unemployment the true cost for a business is higher. Step 4: Insurance costs money. Telephone, electricty and water do too. Business pay for garbage collection too. You may want to advertise your business or itemize a list of additional costs for your business. Step 5: Write a recenure and cost equations using a variable to represent the number of items that your business sells. The time frame of these equations could be daily, weekly, monthly, or annually. For the purpose of this project use a weekly time frane. Your revenue cost is based on the selling price and the number of products you sold. the cost equation is more complicated. Part is variable and is based on the wholesale cost of the product your selling and the unknown number of items sold. The other is fixed and is the sum total of costs listedn in parts 2,3, and 4. Write your equations in function notation. so revenue should be written as R(x) = linear something. Cost should be C(x) = linear something. amounts can be rounded to the nearest dollar. Part 6. You need to know ur limits. If your selling coffee your not going to sell a million cups ina week. Of course the lowers you can sell a week is 0 items. For the Maximum number pick a value which makes sense. the number should allow the business to make a profit. Now take your maximum number sold and dirive it by 5. This will be the step increment that you will use in finding points for each equation. Starting with the variable = 0 and increasing by the increement you will find 6 points for the revenue and cost equations. Example if 100 is the maximum sellable in a day the increment will be 20. So you will use the values 0,20,40,50,80 and 100 and substitue them into each equation. Also solve for the break even point for the business. Let y be the fuction value for each equation and solve each equation simultaneously. You don't need to show all the work for the project but just the important steps. Example: the set up and solution for each should be given. List all these values in a table for each equation. Each equation should have 6 or 7 points Part 7. Using a graphing utility like excel or by hand on graph paper, graph the table of points which you found in part 6. Graph both tables on the same graph using a different color. Clearly mark the axes and your scale. Pat 8 The project is to be typed. Calculations do not need to be shown in the typed section but all setups and solutions should be clearly presented. a calculations page should be included at the end. There should be a final summary paragraph outlining your results. State your results and give a brief summary of what you learned during the project. more

Resolved Question: What are some good "run your own business" games?

I started babysitting a few days ago and I've realized that the family I babysit LOVE playing games where you run your own business. So, I'm just wondering what are some good games (like Coffee Shop, Lemonade Stand, Tuti Fruti Icecream parlor, Hot Shotz, etc..) that DON'T require any downloads or purchases. And also, it has to be appropriate for ages 9-12. Thanks (= more

Resolved Question: What is your opinion The May Day angry mob you won’t see Reconquista revolution without borders?

They came, they saw, they threatened or committed violence in the name of open borders and workers’ rights. But alas, Frank Rich and Paul Krugman’s columns decrying the insane rage and hate of the May Day angry mob got lost in the mail. In Santa Cruz, they carried torches and vandalized at least 18 businesses: Downtown business owners spent Sunday repairing shattered windows and doors after a May Day rally Saturday night turned into a riot with approximately 250 people marching along Pacific Avenue, some carrying makeshift torches, throwing large rocks and paint bombs, and spray-painting walls with graffiti. At least 18 businesses suffered damage during the rally in honor of international workers that began at 9 p.m. and escalated into mayhem around 10:30 p.m., police said. Investigators estimated damage at $100,000, though some business owners said it could be more. No injuries were reported. On Sunday, sea green-colored glass littered sidewalks where windows and glass doors had been smashed. Maintenance workers, many getting called in the middle of the night, boarded up windows with plywood until new sheets of glass could be installed. The vandalized businesses included Urban Outfitters, Peet’s Coffee, Noah’s Bagels, Jamba Juice, Velvet Underground and Dell Williams Jewelers. The unoccupied Rittenhouse building also was damaged. A police car was vandalized with rocks and paint, department spokesman Zach Friend said. In San Francisco, anti-illegal immigration activists were attacked by the May Day marchers: LISA AMIN GULEZIAN, REPORTER: Allan, for the most part the event was peaceful, but just about an hour ago, three people were attacked and two others were arrested. The people who were assaulted were part of the Minutemen demonstration in favor of Arizona’s new immigration law. They said a large group of immigrants’ rights supporters followed them to the BART station on Market Street and started punching and kicking them, and calling them names. PARKER WILSON, BAY AREA ANARCHIST: They said we were racists, and that we were against them, and against their town, and against San Francisco, and what they were saying. They said we needed to get out and they called us racists, and that we need to go home. And then they just attacked my friends and me. The City Square was at the SF protest and captured the border-sabotaging Che lovers: Spotted in the window of a San Francisco shop. Didn’t get vandalized, naturally: In Denver, El Marco caught the Aztlan/anarchist mob at its best (er, worst). Here, the illegal alien advocates accuse us of being the invaders. Really: The (professionally printed) Nazi card was out in full force in Dallas: http://michellemalkin.com/ more

Resolved Question: Should liberals take lessons on how to protest from tea partiers?

If recall correctly, there has been one brick throwing incident from the tea partiers. Despite liberal's claim that tea party protests have been riddled with violence and anger, they have been relatively peaceful and "civil" to a degree. Some of the posters have been less than "civilized", but they haven't resorted to extreme acts of violence that warrants calling in the authorities, then additional back up. However when liberals protest against the AZ immigration, they cause $50k-$100k in damages to businesses. These weren't AZ business, but businesses located in Santa Cruz, Ca. "SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — Close to 20 businesses were damaged after what started as a peaceful immigrants' rights march in downtown Santa Cruz turned violent, requiring police to call other agencies for help, authorities said. Police spokesman Zach Friend said an estimated 250 people started marching through the city around 10:30 p.m. Saturday. A fire was started in a coffee shop entryway but was extinguished once police cleared the way for firefighters, Friend said. Eighteen businesses were damaged, with the cost of repairs estimated at between $50,000 and $100,000. No injuries were reported." http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5jqDBGmaJF45-4xA1CXCFeBGQPBkQD9FF2SAO0 more

Voting Question: What should I do for a future career?

Finally, graduating high school in 5 weeks. :) The issue is... I don't know what I want to do yet... :/ There are so many things I wish I COULD DO and things that I WANT TO DO but I don't know exactly what it is :( I always get easily discouraged hearing about kids that start on whatever they want to be when they grow up, at such a young age. For example, I am very interested in fashion, I have no experience however, but I'm willing to learn and try new things. I've just always been too caught up in my school work to care about anything else... :'( Another thing I'm interested in is journalism but my family doesn't approve of me getting a degree in journalism--they'd rather have me do something in the medical field/industry, and I personally dislike science. :( I always thought it would be cool to dance and sing, I always dance and sing for fun, and I started a dance 'club/team/crew' at our school this year and stuck with it, it was tons of fun and learned so much. But my parents'/family's reaction to me wanting to study dance would be like... what the hell...? Another deram I have is to audition for a Korean entertainment company and train to become an entertainer--a dancer/singer. But honestly I feel like I don't have the looks, and again I just get so discouraged from people that start at like.. age 2 and they deserve that. I just don't have any confidence in myself. Right now, anyways... I'm also interested in opening up my own coffee shop someday, that is my life long goal/dream. I don't know what to do in the meantime though... I've actually been studying a lot about coffee and its history lol, and different types of beans/etc. I was thinking about getting a degree in international business, because I've always wanted to learn a new language or learn about other cultures, and I already know a few other languages, I'm Laotian, and I speak it fluently as well as English, and Spanish, and Korean. But what would I be able to do with a degree in international business? Would I really be able to ever travel the world, with whatever company I work for in whatever country they may do business with? My current interest as of now is to be able to get a career related to fashion. Either a fashion journalist, or a designer, model...? LOL maybe not but idk. I feel ugly because of acne. I'm already fit because I play tennis and dance, and swim, etc. I already have some experience with journalism because I've been on the school newspaper staff for a year now... but sigh that is just not enough isn't it? What should I do? I don't know what to do...As of the moment I'm thinking of majoring in either marketing management, or international business, or something fashion-related, or journalism. I could minor in one of those..hm... decisions, decisions...I've taken so many career assesment quizzes/tests like the ASVAB [the armed services vocational aptitude battery test] at school, and I ended up having lots of enterprising type jobs like: financial manager, marketing manager, advertising sales agent, human resources manager, food service manager, so many other managerial positions, etc... This other career assesment I took was from a site called careercruising.com and my top 10 choices are... [in order, from 1, most suitable, to 10, lesser suitable, etc.]: caterer, entrepreneur, office manager, singer, musician, casting director, professional athlete (LOL I wish), restaurant manager, dancer, and magician (LMAO). I have experience in music, I used to be in choir, and percussion in band for about 3 years from 6th-8th grade but then I quit... -_-' Still, so many options. Voting Question: I Need to LAND this job, bridal consulting.?

This will sound completely crazy. and it is. I live with my boyfriend- we have 3-3 1/2 years to save up money to move currently we are in debt so we are negative $ there are also hardly any jobs so he works for a family member making $25/day when they need him: we cant pay our $500 rent, but now we can eat. We had a car-but it died...so were getting another car with my parents help--1 car. just 1. His plan, since we're far from anything corporate, is to go about and hr away for a job that may pay well working form 8-5 so he'd have to leave around 6-7 depending on traffic. Also I need a job to help save up this money of course, and when we finally move I plan to use the schooling (which im currently doing) to possibly start a event planning Business or work in an already established one-not sure yet. However I need to start getting my feet wet now as i will never learn all that i need, and get the experience i need to do this without getting evolved at the bottom. One other problem: my experience (on a resume) = about 0 . I worked at mcds when i was 14. I did volunteer at a Senior Citizens home (doing everything from serving lunch, crafting with Alzheimer patients, and planning activities with the coordinator) for a year from 9am-9pm, i worked as a waitress for about a month or two. besides those little things I really have nothing on my resume, and since im going to school i have no degrees to fluff it up. So Here is my Crazy Plan:: 1. Where ever my bf lands a job I follow and hit the streets/buses (as he will have that 1 car) looking for nearby wedding planning, bridal shops and the like 2. I go in and talk to a manager for a job, any job coffee getting-trash taker outer, any job and the chance to learn how to be a bridal consultant. So im working as a lackey whileapprenticingg. 3. I find the local parks and eateries so that if i don't start work till 11am i have somewhere to go and something to do from 8-11 since I hitched a ride with my boyfriend. then if im done at 3-4 and hes still working till 5pm i have book stores, possibly malls, and places to go plus the fact that i will probably have to walk to them all hitching buses in between and im sure that will take up some times.. but i figure the pay off is that we have enough money to move in the 3 years, we can get a house and start where we want to be...as we currently live no where near where we'd like to be... SO what im asking is any ideas on how tconvincece the manager of said stores to hire me (when they think im crazy) since i have really no helpfuexperienceses?? more

Resolved Question: All stay-at-home-moms - please take this survey for my business!?

Hello......I am a stay-at-home mom who is researching starting my own business. I am interested in opening an indoor children's playroom/cafe. My idea is this. To provide a safe, fun place for children to play, supervised, while the moms relax in the cafe. For the children, there will be a big playroom with various equipment (not sure what exactly yet) and a small library. All of the children will be supervised. For the moms, a cafe with free internet access, coffee/baked goods, big screen TV's, and big, over-sized couches with a fireplace. This is just a really rough plan with lots of details yet to work through. This is my question to you moms out there. Would you want a place where you could leave your kids for a couple of hours and run errands, do your own thing, or a place where you would have to stay close to your kids? What would be more convenient for you? What would you be comfortable with? How much would you pay per child that you think is "affordable"? As a mom of three, I know that some days I wish there was an affordable place where I could just drop off the kids and go shopping, or go to a doctor's appointment without having to drag the kids along. This is a major decision, because now I would be operating as a child care facility, which is attached with many licensing issues. Any feedback would be much appreciated! Thanks! more

Resolved Question: what is the best chance for outcome here?

i've been hooking up with this guy for 10 months. he started dating a girl in november and she's his girlfriend. and he's been cheating on her with me. and i got kind of pissed when i found out and theres a girl that i usually gossip with about guys and life and work etc. i told her who he was (i hadn't told anyone about it yet because he wanted us to be a secret or something and now i know that it wasn't just so he could "look available") and she said "oh i know him! he did the same thing to my sister!" and we talked about it. it was funny as in good, and i asked her not to tell anyone. and she agreed and i thanked her for helping me feel better. now that i've gotten over the guy......... i realize i should have just known that he was just a jerk and never should have said anything. when two people share that kind of conversation would it be best to keep her to her word and hope that she keeps her mouth shut? she never talks to anyone about other peoples business because she's young and doesn't really like her job at the coffee shop...so we just talk story. but i had so many negative feelings about that guy i just never wanna see him again or mention his name again anyhow. just thought it was impolite of me to not realize he was a jerk in the first place. more

Resolved Question: Is this a scheme or an MLM?

I received a mass email from a distant acquaintance saying that "she is starting a new business" and that she needs some individuals upon which to "practice her presentation skills". She went on to say that she is not selling anything, but that she needs to be able to practice these presentation skills on some individuals before going out into the marketplace. She would value feedback and opinions. I replied and said that I could meet her at a coffee shop or even reserve a conference room at my work if she wanted to "practice" on me. She replied by saying that she needs to be able to come to my home (I don't understand why) and ALSO that my husband needs to be there with me. I have several animals and small children. It would be impossible for someone to conduct a business presentation in my home setting. I stated this to her, but she was insistent. I also asked a number of times just what business she was getting into. After 10 or so emails, she never answered that question. Her ambiguity in her emails and her persistence on visiting my home is unnerving. I have quit responding. Can anyone tell me if this scenario sounds familiar to them? Do you know if this might be a MLM or scheme of some sort? more

Resolved Question: - Do you know Hockey?

This is about a hockey player named Tim Hortons.. I need you to read and check if i have all the hockey phrases and stuff right. :) Thanks Myles Gilbert Horton, or better known as Tim Horton was born January 12th 1930, in Cochrane, Ontario, Canada. He was an amazing Canadian hockey player and the founder of the famous, Tim Hortons. Facts: 1,446 regular season games 115 scored goals 403 assists 17 full seasons [Toronto Maple Leafs] 3 partial seasons [Toronto Maple Leafs] 4 Stanley cup teams 6 time All-Star Player 24 played NHL seasons TIM AND HOCKEY Tim started playing hockey as a child at age 5 while living in Montreal. His professional Hockey career started in 1950 when Conn Smythe offered Tim a 3 year contract to play with the Pittsburgh Hornets. After those 3 years, he began his rookie season [in 1953] with the Toronto Maple Leafs and continued on with them until 1970. He spent 18 amazing years with the Leafs, but got traded off to the New York Rangers for two years in 1970-1971. By then he wanted to retire, but got a Intra-League draft with the Pittsburgh Penguins for a year and then got traded again to the Buffalo Sabers. His last Hockey game was at the BLAH BLAH BLAH with the Sabers. Unfortunately after that game he died in a car crash that following night in 1974. Tim accomplished many things during his Professional career; he played 1,446 regular season games, with 115 scored goals, and 403 assists. He was a strong player on defense, played on 4 Stanley cup teams, and awarded All-Star Player six times. Overall Tim was a great hockey player as much as he was a great person. ALWAYS FRESH ALWAYS TIM HORTONS To this day Tim Horton's legacy is known, not because of his brilliant hockey playing, but because of of his coffee shop. Back in 1960 while playing with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Tim started a coffee shop named after himself (Tim Horton's) in Ottawa Street, Hamilton, Ontario. He created "Tim Hortons" because he realized his Hockey Career would not last forever, so he tried his luck in starting a Coffee Shop. His business was very successful throughout the years, opening up a third store in 1967 with his business partner, Jon Royce. HIS DEATH Tim Horton died on February 21st 1974 in his Pantera sports car while driving down the QEW highway near St. Cathrines. He was driving home to Buffalo from a game in Toronto when Tim Horton lost control of his car exceeding 160km/h and crashing. Unfortunately Tim's body was not seat-belted, and so as a result he was thrown out of his car's windshield and died. The Buffalo Sabers retired his number 2 sweater in memory Tim Horton, and was also added to the Hockey Hall of Fame. Tim Horton was an incredible person with success in front of him. He had his growing business "Tim Hortons" with 40 stores [before he died], and was also a father of 4 children with his wife Lori. Its a shame that Tim Horton didn't live to see how far his business went, because now it is truly a part of Canada. Please dont mind the BLAH BLAH BLAH part, im still finding out the place. :) more

Resolved Question: Business degree to run business in Maine?

I am itching to move to Maine and start a nice, quiet, beautiful life. I don't plan on building a family ANY time soon. I want to move to Maine, near the coast. I am a musician and painter, and I figure I want to own my own business selling my art and performing in the communities surrounding where I live, depending on whether or not they have coffee shops I guess. I understand that it will not be a luxurious life, and that I may not ever make ends meet, and that is fine with me. I just want to be able to make and do what I want, and enjoy life. I am getting ready to start college, and I assume that getting a business degree will help me with my endeavour of owning my own business. Correct me if I am wrong, I really am completely lost concerning what to do in college. I was going to go to school for singing, and songwriting/arrangement, but Berklee College of Music is way too damn expensive, so I am only gonna go for this summer. Then I am coming back here to Naples Fl and going to FGCU. Basically I want to know if anyone has followed there dream, particularly one similar to mine (moving to a place, being creative, making enough of a profit to live fairly comfortably, no family), and if it actually worked. If anyone has advice, concerning the college decision or the Maine decision, that'd be great. more

Resolved Question: **********PLEASE TELL ME IF MY STORY IS GOOD SO FAR*********?

It was a regular Sunday morning for Gretchen Fields: wake up, turn on the T.V, grab a bowl of cheerios, and slump around in her pj’s the rest of the morning. In the middle of Tom and Jerry’s adventurous feud, she heard a knock at the door. That was unusual. No one had come to visit Gretchen and her dad since the split. Well, except her grandmother Gracey, that old witch was always trying to plan her future. She hopped up and threw her bowl in the sink. She was hesitant on opening the door. She peeked through the peek hole. There was a man; a tall man in a black suit and blue tie. Very formal I guess if it weren’t for that cheesy haircut and 1980’s dress shoes. Maybe he had the wrong apartment number. She would’ve screamed through the door that he had the wrong apartment number to avoid the awkwardness of telling him face-to-face. But she didn’t want to wake up her dad. Ever since the divorce, he had been too drunk to ever care of his surroundings. Eventually, she opened the door. Apparently, the man was a lawyer. He started saying business-y lawyer crap she didn’t understand. Finally, after all the jabber and confidential contract crud, he asked for a parent or guardian. Nervousness swept over her body. She hoped her dad wasn’t still drunk from last night’s club hopping. She grabbed her music box her mom had given her before she left, from the coffee table. Inside was a pair of golden keys to her dad’s bedroom. She snatched up the keys and headed for the hallway. She twisted the keys in the knob and yanked the door open. Her dad was lying in bed (as usual). He had the tele turned on HSN, the shopping channel. Not normal but she could deal. She threw the keys at the headboard expecting the all so familiar drunken groan, but instead a slight movement and then a cheerful “good morning darling!” followed by a bright smile. Was that the same depressed father she had known all her life? The Patrick Fields that was lazy and always had to have a glass of beer in his hand? At that moment, she had forgotten the reason she had come into her father’s room in the first place. So she walked back in the cozy living room and saw the cold, hard-faced man on the couch enjoying a snickers bar. She hadn’t remembered letting him in though. She couldn’t move. Like her feet were glued to the floor. Dazed or daydreaming. Daydreaming. That’s when she woke up. She must have been in that red minivan for hours, or at least that’s what it felt like. It was another flashback. A painful flashback of what was. Of what used to be. Why had they taken her away? Her dad was fine. He was not an alcoholic. He was just stressed and liked to have his occasional beers or vodka; and sometimes even both. She still remembered the harsh words the tall lawyer had spoken: “unstable, demanding, useless, and uncaring.” I guess it was destined to be, especially with a drug dealing mom and “alcoholic” dad. The driver lady at the front asked Gretchen if she needed a potty break. The lady up front had fiery red hair and gigantic boobs. Not usually the type of girl you would see driving a minivan. Gretchen took advantage of the offer and said yes. Maybe if she got some fresh air and a red bull, she could get her thoughts straight. They stopped at a nearby gas station. It had the stench of popcorn, smoke, and gas. It reminded her of the streets of New York. How she missed the familiar lights and busy cars. She missed the stray cats and business men and women rushing to their jobs in cabs or subways. “Just forget” Gretchen kept telling herself. But it was too hard. She was a city girl, not a country girl from an Alabama foster home. She had never met her foster parents, but she heard them over the phone once. They seemed so fake. Like those perfect little families you would see on T.V. Like the Brady Bunch or Cosby Show. Her dad said they were probably just nervous. Gretchen thinks that they’re boring. One of those families that spend their Saturday nights watching reruns on T.V land. She jogged into the small stop-n-shop. She grabbed a sugar-free red bull and a pack of sour gummy worms. The snacks read $7.75. She pulled a 50 dollar bill out of her pocket and now she had a jumble of ones left over. They wouldn’t all fit in her pocket so she stuffed the leftovers in her bra when she didn’t think anyone was looking. But there was another teen around her age. He was probably 15 or so. He gave her a weird look and all she could do was blush and smile. Stupid cashier, the store had to have 10s or at least 5s. She rushed back to the van still red from embarrassment. They took off from the gas station and were back on the road. CAUTION, DEER CROSSING, LOW TREES, YEILD, DEAD END. Those were the signs Gretchen was now seeing. “Must be getting close” she thought as ugly 3 flats started to appear out of the window. Gretchen was about to doze off until her phone started vibrating in her pocket. There was a new text. It was from her BFF, Jessica. Ever since last Saturday more

About the bags: they come from local coffee shops who roast their own coffee beans. The bags are made of 100% burlap which is an eco friendly product. I have started making these as an effort to be eco friendly and as a means to reuse a typically discarded product. The purses are fashioned from this bag to create a stylish large almost hobo style bag. To submit your answer you may either submit it below (I'll need your email address if you hope to win) or you can email me at lirsudi at yahoo dot com Thanks so much! ***I will contact the winner via email. The winner will receive the bag up to 6 weeks after the date they are chosen*** more
