The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year awards celebrate their 22nd anniversary this year. The program honors entrepreneurs who have demonstrated exceptionality in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities. "Ernst & Young is pleased to honor outstanding business leaders," said Joseph Capparelli, Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Program Director for Metro New York. "Winners of the Entrepreneur Of The Year award build leading businesses and contribute a great deal to the communities around them. Their success helps our area grow stronger." UNC alumni to re-create early student's walk to Chapel Hill
The trio plan to depart at 8 a.m. Saturday from Wrightsville Beach, where they used to surf in college, said Jones, a Charlotte-based entrepreneur who graduated from Chapel Hill in 2006. Beckett, who graduated along with Reeds in 2005, used to be a Wrightsville Beach lifeguard.
They hope to reach their target - the Old Well on the Chapel Hill campus - by Aug. 15.
No one knows the route James took to Chapel Hill, or where he actually started. (His family owned land in what is now Pender County, and he was buried north of Burgaw.) The modern-day hikers plan generally to follow U.S. 421 to N.C. 55 to N.C. 54.
Some sources say James took a month to reach the university, but he was walking in the dead of winter. He arrived on campus nearly a month after the university officially opened, but many other students were delayed by heavy snowfalls, Snyder wrote. more
AMD going fabless
AMD is preparing to spin off its manufacturing operations into a new company, which would imply that a new business partner will also be a stakeholder in the manufacturing arm.Though I doubted any ‘asset-smart’ plan actually existed, the only possible way forward as the company continued to wrestle with heavy quarterly losses was to go fabless. The time it would take to deal with the Saxony Government over subsidies etc… for the new entity, as well as finding a financial backer to support the independent manufacturing, shouldn’t be underestimated, especially in the current economic climate. In AMD’s conference call last week it became clear that the ‘asset-smart’ plan was close to being revealed and that it would be a substantial change to AMD’s business model going forward. more
EMI Music Publishing signs Eddy Grant to global publishing deal
He is an entrepreneur, can still cause controversy and discussion to this day, and above all is a true creative spirit whose influence and importance cannot be questioned. We're really happy to enter this partnership with Grant, and are looking forward to working with him to introduce his songs to a whole new generation of music fans."Grant said, "It is my sincerest hope that this relationship will set a new trend in the strategic relationship between a major and a small independent publisher. In a relationship such as this, the best can be realised, on both sides, through what I would call creative administration and visionary creation. May God help us to steer a good course through the admission of our faults if and when they occur, in this way we can be stronger together."Grant began his career in the music industry in 1965, forming the Equals with John Hall, Lincoln Gordon, Derv Gordon, and Patrick Lloyd. more
