New Balance, Nine West pair up for shoe line

Two shoe companies have paired up to match fashion with function in a footwear line set to debut next spring.

Boston-based New Balance and Nine West Group, a division of Jones Apparel Group Inc., said they have agreed to license, create, and distribute a footwear collection that matches New Balance's performance and materials technology with the styling of Nine West. Terms of the deal were not released.

The companies will collaborate on material, color and design and split up manufacturing and production. (By Elizabeth Campbell, Globe correspondent)

The Connecticut Water Company Signs Agreement to Purchase

EAC is a regulated water utility company that provides water service to approximately 750 customers, or approximately 2,300 people in the town of Ellington, Connecticut. Under the terms of the agreement, Connecticut Water will purchase all issued and outstanding shares of EAC for $1,495,000.

Connecticut Water currently serves more than 36,000 customers in Ellington and its surrounding towns in northern Connecticut and its water system is in close proximity to that of EAC. Eric W. Thornburg, President and CEO of Connecticut Water, says this transaction will benefit the customers of EAC and CWC alike. He stated, "By interconnecting the EAC and CWC water systems, we can avoid significant capital expenditures for both companies that in the long-term will keep rates lower for CWC and EAC customers than if EAC had remained an independent company. more

President Kufuor petitioned to curb takeover of local

Members of the Indigenous Pharmaceutical Business Association have petitioned the President to intervene in curbing the systematic takeover of Ghana�s domestic pharmaceutical distribution network by foreign companies. They say in recent times foreign entities have invaded the pharmaceutical industry and are gradually taking over, adding that if nothing is done now, it will not be long before the indigenous pharmaceutical business goes under.

Presenting a petition to President Kufuor at the Castle, the Acting President of the Association, Ernest Bediako Sampong, called on government to consider initiating a legislation to limit direct marketing and distribution of pharmaceutical products to Ghanaians only.

For his part, President Kufuor said in view of the nature of the pharmaceutical industry, the petition will be referred to the appropriate institutions for review and recommendations. more

While profits continued to suffer in second quarter of 2008 from our transactional businesses being negatively impacted by the broader capital market conditions, our ongoing recurring source of rental revenue from our portfolio of 27 properties continued to grow and provided $0.24 per share out of the total $0.29 per share quarterly profit total.

The property portfolio remained about 93% occupied for the quarter, with very lease turnover remaining for the balance of 2008, and approximately 11.4% lease turnover scheduled for 2009. We are obviously working on those lease turnovers as we speak. The property portfolio still has no property-secured debt associated with it, however, the company does have approximately $110.0 million drawn on its $250.0 million line of credit, with those funds having been used for property purchases directly into Franklin Street Properties, as well as a current private placement offering of a sponsored entity through our Investment Banking Group. more

Hi, I am a female from Mumbai having experience of 20 years as Executive Secretary/Executive Assistant and worked for various brands in India and reporting to very senior profiles. I am planning to start my own virtual assistance business where I can operate from home and handle the activities virtually (i.e. without being physically present in office). I am excellent in written communication, MIS and co-ordination. I have a typing speed of 50 wpm and shorthand 100 wpm. Voting Question: Why is my family uninterested in helping me become successful?

My family lives across the country. I've noticed that since I started my own business they refuse to help me. I am a virtual assistant & I had a potential client in their city who heard about me from an associate that I've worked for here & this person wanted to pay me $500 to hand address about 250 envelopes.I offered the entire $500 to my mom if she would help me do this. She said she was too busy gardening & couldn't do it. I was really upset b/c I lost a customer that could have been a great paying repeat. I also co-own a mobile car wash & we wanted to open a 2nd one in the same area as my family b/c we wanted to move there. My dad has a truck he doesn't use & he was just laid off. Not only will they not allow me to use the truck, my dad flat out said he didn't want to help b/c it wasn't like we were making any real $$ anyway. My car wash brings in over $3000 a month here and the VA business brings in nearly $2000 a month. If I create another office for both businesses than it could be very lucrative. I'm not asking them to work with me full time all I'm asking is that occasionally they help me out when I can't do it myself. They have shown no interest in either business & sometimes don't even want to talk about it. I don't get it. It's not just my parents, it's my siblings as well. Why don't they want to help me or show support? I feel a little hurt. more
