China-Europe Int. Business Sch. launched in Accra
A consortium of International Business Executives is to launch in Accra a school known as the China-Europe International Business School. The Institution, the first of its kind in Africa is already in four other countries, China, Mexico, Argentina and Spain. This came to light when the Business leaders called on President Kufuor at the castle.
They were led by the Executive President of the School in China, Professor Pedro Nuedo. President Kufuor said business, like other fields of endeavour must be taught along scientific lines. He said he was overwhelmed by the news of establishing such an international institution in Ghana.
The President stressed the need for the ambitious youth to get an insight into what makes a good business person. He hoped through that they would be excited enough to venture into the sector. more
Work Landscape Undergoes Change
28--How will the complexion of businesses change in the future if older workers stay at their desks?
Will there be more cases of age discrimination or will employers and societal views of aging people experience a metamorphosis?
"The challenge of employers today as this huge generation reaches retirement is how to keep older workers and in what capacity," said Scott Parkin, with the National Council on Aging. "Understanding the trend, will they still value the knowledge and skill of the older worker and want to keep them in some capacity?"
Parkin points to CVS Pharmacy as a "very forward-thinking" company that has developed a snowbird program that allows older workers to relocate their jobs during the year as they move north and south for the seasons. more

New chairman seeks better NY business climate
That could produce a major change in New York's business climate.
Business leaders have long complained that the state's large bureaucracy and high taxes make it difficult to attract businesses, particularly to upstate, which has been stung by the loss of manufacturing jobs over the last 20 years.
In fact, Wilmers had been an outspoken critic of the state's dysfunction, joining other business leaders to form Unshackle Upstate, a group that lobbies for state government reforms.
Yet Wilmers now is on the other side of the table after taking the helm of the embattled agency earlier this month.
He's taking a methodical approach as he guides Empire State Development through a critical time. The state's economy is reeling, and the agency is in flux after a revamping of its management structure by former Gov. more

Ok, so I've been working at a salon that caters to men. Haircuts, shaves, nails, pedi's, waxing, etc. And of course Massage Therapy. I have been there a year in March. Business was always on the slow side. I'm supposedly considered the full-time therapist and have always been an ON-CALL therapist (tues-sat). I tried doing a the hourly pay rate of $7.50/hour plus a low 30% commission for the first few weeks, sitting around for 4-5 hours a day, to see if it would make any difference for me building more clients. It didn't... and I was bored as Hell! So I spoke with the owner/boss and we agreed to a 50/50 split (on-call) situation. It worked fine, but it was never a secure or consistent paycheck. It actually pretty much sucks. However, it is something and helps me help pay the bills. Shame on me, I guess, for not getting better work, but the economy has been crap, and I liked the flexibility. Now I find out in November 2009 that I am pregnant. I told my boss and the staff before Christmas at our meeting about it and that it will not hinder my abilities. Since then, things have been Um.... different! The owner went and hired another therapist, older and less attractive than me. I was on family holiday for Christmas and when I came back before the new year, the new therapist has had a full schedule. He gave her my busy days of Thurs, Fri & Sat. without even asking me first which days I wanted, and started a $50 massage special for her to offer people to build herself a clientele. She sits around for the $7.50 an hour plus the 30% commission, and hustles guys for free 10 minute massages in order to make herself tips. I've noticed sometimes when the owner isn't there she takes them in the back massage room for longer. So I know she is stealing time right from under the owners nose and getting paid for it. However the owner thinks she can DO NO WRONG! Since she is willing to do more for less money (commission). I feel totally disrespected and taken advantage of. This situation is not fair at all, and now I feel trapped with no options. I've been a loyal worker of his for a year and all he seems to think he sees is $$$ signs. The salon isn't even big enough for 2 therpists (there's one designated therapy room) and there never was 2 working at the same time. What would u do? And do I have any rights in this situation, since its such an odd employment set-up? Thanks everyone for your help. Thanks for the straight forward info. I realize a business is all about money. I'm no idiot. I did own my own massage biz for a few years, and to tell u the truth I made more back then with a few massages a week then I did working for an him. However, I thought I'd try working for someone who would take care of all the advertising etc. and all I would have to do is show up. Unfortunately, if I'm going to have to hustle that much to build his shitty clientele for the salon, I'd rather do it on my own again. It is really sad that I was not offered the first pick of schedule before he placed another employee on my days, after being so loyal to him. KARMA is a B*TCH and what goes around comes around. moreResolved Question: Should I encourage my daughter to move to LA to pursue a music career?
My daughter wants to move to LA for her music. Do you think this is a good idea? Here's the details. She is 24, moved to Nashville 4 years ago to start her journey in the music business, started as a country artist, but actually developed into a pop/soul/r&b artist. She has had management (he dropped her when she made it through all of the preliminary rounds on American Idol-that's another story!), she has sang in clubs for 3 years, she writes her own music and has quite a few songs already recorded. Anyway, she now wants to move to LA because Nashville doesn't cater to her style. She has two girlfriends out there that want her to room with them. She has industry contacts in Nashville that said they would connect her with some writers and legitimate people out there. She also has a friend in LA that's a freelance TV producer and he said as soon as she got out there he would do what he could to get her in front of some people. She is very talented, but there are alot of people that run to LA and get swallowed up and end up defeated and waiting tables for the rest of their life. On the other hand, I hate to rain on her parade, I'm supporting her decision but I'm the realist and she's the dreamer, so we don't always see eye to eye on this issue. She's learned some hard lessons in Nashville, so I think she has matured enough to handle this. Would really love some feedback from anyone with some first hand info and experience. Thanks! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwevaIddJ…Just a note, we are not fighting about this, I am standing behind her on this, and it's not up to me, she's 24, she can do whatever she wants, I would just like to hear from someone that has "been there done that" perhaps I can even give her some encouraging words from what I hear. moreResolved Question: Setting up a small part time Catering business?

I have a BS in Biology degree that is collecting dust in my front hall closet. I got that degree to please other people in my family. Now at 28 I've decide to follow my real dreams and start my own business in the catering/restaurant business. I want to go to Culinary School but I'm a Army wife and will be living in Korea for at least three years. I'm thinking about taking class online at Argosy University for a MS in Management. The idea is to get the degree, get a job in the food industry, learn the business on their time, and pay off student loan debt until I'm ready to start my business. Argosy is an accredited school but I keep reading reviews saying it's not worth it to get an online degree. That employer don't like to hire people with online degree. And Argosy is just want your money. Plus it doesn't help that I feel really pressured by the admissions rep. at Argosy. I guess my questions are: Is it really a good idea to get an online education? Is Argosy a good school? Is getting a MS in Management to vague like my degree in Biology was? moreResolved Question: I am looking for a website that caters to small and start-up businesses?

oh and does anyone know an affordable alternative (again vegan/not tested on animals) to Presecriptives. It's been years since i went to the little section at Macys with my friends and I remember they mixed foundation that perfectly matched my skin. Just for me. I didn't buy it though I just kind of used the mini-makeover as prep for a date lol I just found out that theyre going out of business! Anyway, I'm starting to try really cheap products until the summer when school ends. Then I'm hitting more expensive ones. E.L.F. is the brand I'm looking into. it seems like a lot of lines cater to specifically dark skinned or light skinned girls. I never see too many accurate match ups for those of us in between. I'm African American and very light skinned - have like a dark gold/very slightly bronze skin tone i think. kind of like a tan. yellow under tones mostly but bits of red. sometimes the color swatches i get that are supposed to match my skin look a too dark for me. like sometimes in makeup "tan" looks more like brown to me. so im buying one shade lighter as well to mix it if one doesnt match seamlessly. I guess thats why I'm starting cheap so I don't waste money on something too dark or light. i wanted to try color match by loreal or whatev its called. it very cheap and has a large selection of colors but its not vegan. :\ i guess ill be okay i just have to wait and see what happens when i get it all and work it out. this was pretty much just a beauty rant.lol do you ever feel the same about your makeup ? moreResolved Question: Econ homework help :/?

My partner and I have been working for the past year and a half developing a marketing system to help promote local businesses in a certain niche market (sorry wont say what the niche is). But when we go to pitch our service we are running into problems. First this is what we do: Basically we have developed a website much akin yellow pages which only caters towards this niche, over the past year and a half we have become highly optimized for almost every category in the niche ranking in the top 3 spots in Google Yahoo and Bing (MSN). (outranking even yellowpages, yelp, yellowbook and others) However we are not only offering a subscription into the directory (which gives the clients more exposure). We build each client a website, they get to choose their domain name, we create a custom classified advertisements to use, and we promote their businesses through Google Adwords, (this is done by having adwords drop the click through onto their listing page on our site.) In addition we give the clients access to a backend where they can track how many impressions their classified ads recieve, how many clickthroughs to their website, and a host of other statistical tools. This is above and beyond yellowpages, in fact many clients we talk to say they spend 150-300 a month on yellowpages and recieve NO results. We have a few clients who are very satisfied with the service, and it has helped them land additional business. In fact for most of our clients, only 1 job from a lead covers a months charge or more, and we only charge $50/mo promotional rate for 6 months then it goes to $80/mo from there. Now here is the problem we face when trying to get new clients.... Many of you may have been cold called and pitched by some internet search engine optimization company that promises that they can get you on the front page of Google for a fee.. Most of those companies are shady and provide no results. For some reason when we start talking to people this is what they think we are doing... when in fact this is NOT what we are doing at all! I'm kind of at a how I can effectively market our service without being confused as one of these shady businesses. Since this is not what we are doing. moreResolved Question: what do you think is the solution for this problem?
Benihana of Tokyo is a restaurant own by Aoki, he is a Japanese, but he builds his restaurant in New YOrk coz he discovered that Americans love exotic food. He starts as an ordinary person. The walls, ceiling, beams, artifacts and decorative lights of a Benihana are all from Japan. The building materials are gathered from old houses there, carefully disassembled, and shipped in peices to the U.S. where they are resembles by one of his father's two crew of Japanese carpenter. Some restaurant like myself have more fun than others, says AOKI, youthful pres. ofBenihana of Tokyo. Between 1964, when he opened his first location and 1972 he had gone more deficit net worth to being pres. of a chain of 15 restaurants that grossed over $12 million per yr. Benihana was named after a small red flower that grew near the front door of the unit restaurant. Rocky's first unit on the West Side was such a success that it paid 6 months, the 2nd unit 3 blocks away on the East Side simply to cater to the overflow of the benihana West, the 3rd unit is in Chicago had proved to be the largest money maker coz it grossed approximately @1.3 million/year, the 4th unit was in San Francisco and the 5th was a joint venture in Las Vegas in 1969. By 1972, Benihana was basically in steak house wit a difference Aoki borrowed his method of cooking from his father. One of the things that Aoki worried in his analysis was that, number one problems the availability and cost of labor by eliminating the need for conventional kitchen with hibachi table arrangement and the other thing s he discovered is that food storage and wastage contribute significantly the cuerband of the typical restaurant. I finally invest on historical authenticity. When Aoki has unit of Benihana the chefs and the staffs are considered as Key to its success coz they are highly trained. The philosophy of the restaurant roat business is simply to make people happy. Runs carpenters, consultants, and editor for constitution/ volume feeding magazine, sumed up his perception for a two main problems. What is Benihana really selling? The problem of perceptions was shown through different exhibits. And there are 9 exhibits these are the operating statistics for a typical service restaurant, floor plan, organization chart, the costumers thank, summary of the Benihama's marketing philosophy, benihana's of Tokyo advertisement. Two philosophies of the steak, the mission of Aoki. moreVoting Question: What name for our catering business?

Why is the republican party catering to its conservative members rather than moderates? Political issues aside, it seems (from a business standpoint at least) more profitable for them to cater to the needs of those in the middle and more likely to switch sides, like the republicans who sometimes vote democrats, instead of the far right, who will never, ever, switch parties. If the far right were to promote their own third party candidate, they could never beat the other two established parties. I assume it would be very much like the far-left candidates who run under a new party and then get 3% of the vote. Wouldn't it work the same way for the right? I know very little about the workings of a political party, so you might have to start at the bottom level to explain this to me. Is it completely unlike a business? Am I making the wrong assumptions about how it works? Is it normal for a party to have a pendulum that swings from liberal to conservative within a party? No, I'm not talking about specific political issues or which is the right way to go. I'm talking about building the party from a numbers standpoint. moreVoting Question: I have a catering business. I do the Wed. Meal at church for a fraction of what it would normally cost?

1. I am pro free trade, low taxes, fiscally conservative. 2. I am pro choice yet anti gay marriage ( but I don't care that much). 3. I believe we need to make serious reforms to our welfare system first starting off with ending the rewarding of bad behavior such as giving more money for each additional kid (Lazy bad parents should not be encouraged to have more children brought into their messed up homes since they can't even take care of themselves. 4. I am for universal health care given it puts the insurance companies out of business, which will reduce costs by forcing hospitals to cut corners and increase efficiency even if it means worse overall care. (I believe more money should be invested into other endeavors of our economy). 5. I think the government should stop wasting their time and money on politically correct carp, and stop catering to interest groups who only look out for themselves. 6. I think we should legalize drugs and control them so people who are dumb and want to use em can and do not have to commit crime, and or go to jail costing us trillions of dollars. 7. I hate unions they are stupid and inefficient, I believe america should create more incentives for talented people/ intelligent people to move to america to stay competitive with an increasingly competitive developing world. 8. Like the space industry which ended up tremendously benefiting our world with satellites etc. etc. we should also subsidize renewable energy tech. so we can take advantage of a huge industry in the future. (Even exxon mobile realizes this and they contribute a lot, but we need more funding) 9. I hate dumb socialists who think being smarter and more blessed then others as a means to make way more then dumb people who have no unique abilities are evil. Yet I also hate the anti science christian groups that want to somehow force people back in church. 10. We need to end this wimpy education system that puts students of all abilities in the same class and focuses on the average student. When we should separate advanced, average and dumb students into different sections of the school so they can LEARN. Oh yeah I am not really a vegan, I eat meat. moreResolved Question: Starting a catering trailer business?

I am starting a business from home where I'll be catering, making cakes, and other pastries. I want to name my business "peace of cake" with the peace sign as my logo. I googled this business name and there are a few other bakeries with this name but in other states. I also did the trademark search to see if it was a trademarked name, and it says that it's trademarked by a clothing company in New York. So, could I still use this name for my business name? moreTop Start Up Catering Business Links
