Businesses must keep back door locked to hackers
Once the focus of IT security was the network and its perimeter: stop hackers and viruses getting onto your network and you will secure your business. But over the last couple of years, businesses have begun to realise they left the back door open.
Encouraging the public to interact with them over the internet left a gaping hole in security. Although intrusion detection, firewall and anti-virus technology advanced, a user can key information into a web form, linked to a back-end database, and these security technologies could be bypassed.
In 2007, retailer TJX, which owns TK Maxx in the UK, revealed that hackers had stolen 45.7 million credit and debit card numbers from its databases over 18 months. Hackers are said to have planted unauthorised software on TJX's computer network to enable them to steal at least 100 files containing data on millions of accounts from systems in Framingham, Massachusetts and Watford in the UK. more
Business jet's door falls off during takeoff
Aviation officials say the main passenger door fell off a twin-jet business plane as it was taking off from a Colorado airport.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Mike Fergus says the door tumbled from the Bombardier Challenger CL-60 shortly after takeoff Monday from Grand Junction Regional Airport. No one was hurt. He says that he doesn't know how high the plane was, but that it returned to the airport and landed safely. He also didn't know how many people were aboard, but the plane can seat about 20 passengers. . moreUganda: Aviation Industry Gains Momentum

I just got married in 9/2009. My husband was unemployed for that year so when I did my taxes it didn't make a difference in mine since he had no income. Him and his buddy are planning on starting their own landscaping company this year with a "business account" in their names. I'm wondering if that will affect my taxes next year, like not getting back as much, or does it not affect mine since it will be him and his buddy? I'm wondering because I have my employer take out more taxes so that i get more back on my tax refund and if i'm not going to get much because of their business I would like to change my stuff so that my checks are bigger...............thanks for any help in advance!Yes, we filed jointly this year. All i'm trying to find out is how much his business with his buddy will affect our taxes. They do plan on doing the quarterly payments. moreOpen Question: Would you hire an illegal immigrant if it meant your business would survive?
American business is not "outsourcing" if they are hiring within America. They are simply breaking the law and hiring illegal workers within America. It is truly convenient for them to hire these illegals since they are located in the US and because it would be far more costly if a US-based business was to set up operations outside the US where the labor force may be cheaper i.e. Mexico. In my opinion, which I highly regard (LOL), I believe my business acumen and experience regarding business operations are more established than the Average Joe's/Jane's. I have spent the last 9 years analyzing businesses in just about all sectors and I do this on a daily basis. It's a very competitive world out there. I try to put myself in the shoes of the business owner who has to do everything possible (especially in these times if you want to remain competitive and stay afloat) while at the same time remaining true American. If a business owner is manufacturing a "widget" and pays his workers $15 p/hr and the competitor is paying his workers $5 p/hr to manufacture the same widget, chances are the competitor is going to be more profitable and gain more market share. So it would be in the best interest for the business owner to also hire individuals that accept $5 p/hr so that the business can survive and remain competitive....and if the US government isn't going to do anything about it, why wouldn't you?! I'm not saying that I condone hiring employees (illegals) that accept a low wage; I'm just saying the business world is highly competitive (so bare with me on this one). For the time being it appears that illegal immigration is the best of both worlds for American business. This said, it might come back to bite them in the YOU KNOW WHAT if the US government actually enforces the law. When I put myself in the shoes of a business owner I also realize that a lot of them have poured their hearts, souls, money, life, family, and time into their business. Their business becomes their lifeblood. Everything about their life becomes completely dependent upon the success of their business. Now, imagine if you were in their shoes. That you have spent the past 15 years of life building a business. That you have dumped everything that you have into the business and then another competitor starts hiring illegal immigrants and is more profitable, taking away your market share, your business begins to fail, and your having thoughts about your house, your spouse, your children's college tuition, your car payments, etc. What would you do?...Throw away everything you've based your life on, or consider hiring illegal immigrants knowing that the government might not do a thing about it and you can go on living a life that you been building for 15+ years? You want to protect your loved ones, right? Bottom line, if businesses in the US didn't hire illegal workers, other businesses in the US wouldn't have to hire illegal workers to remain competitive. If I had it my way, not one business in the US would have illegal workers and the business playing field/landscape wouldn't be so heavily weighted on screwing over your competitor by hiring an illegal immigrant. If you are a business owner and want a lower-cost labor force, outsource your labor to a different country if it is feasible for your business model....be fair to Americans! moreResolved Question: Is starting your own landscaping business worth the time and effort?

My husband and I are really young (21 and 22) but we're looking that in the near future we can start a landscaping business here in miami. they have SO many in miami, but already does landscaping in another company and knows the right prices, planting and so many more things. he says we can start off really cheap and spreading the flyers wont be an issue because im a teacher and my principal gave me permission to post flyers in the parents emails and mailboxes. we have all the tools. but what else do we need besides the small business loan which we're already been approved for? what are some steps for success? moreResolved Question: how to start a landscaping business?

So many times I have heard Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Republican Politicians say that we should trust the Private Sector to create jobs. The belief that Government has no responsibility to create jobs, which is far of base, and that we should depend on the PS, seems to be the backdrop for the argument of "less government". But when I look closely at the way people have changed, I don't trust the private sector at all! The landscape of why people start businesses up is not to offer services and be proud of that, no...its to get rich! People want more!!! More cars, bigger homes for their families of 4, larger investment portfolios, and the very worse...more money in the Bank! This is a fact.(look it up) More money is owned by the richest than ever before. It used to be around 2 percent now its approaching 10! That's a lot of money that is not in circulation. No one talks about the money that is simply being hoarded and not doing anything to help those that need work. The difference in mindset is so different than it was 40 years ago when individuals had some sense of when enough is enough. Everyone of those who invested with Bernie Maddoff already had enough money, so why did they do it? Greed. Your thoughts, can we really depend on the Private Sector to operate like it used too? And to those who want to blame Obama, stop! The Private Sectors' decline in creating jobs has been going on for that past 10 years. moreResolved Question: Is it hard to start up my own garden maintenance business ?
Im 17 years old, im at college and i do a plumbing course. But lately ive decided that im going to finish the rest of this year then next year start a landscape gardening course. I am 27 years old. I am an only child. When I was 17 my dad left and completely changed and moved on with his life, didn't pay child support, didn't care about me or my mom anymore. At 21 my mom passed away from a brief illness. I was/am still very traumatized. I have no siblings and her side of the family placed blame on me because they were angry with my father for what he did to my mother, so i don't speak to my family. I am married to a great man, thankfully...He is what is keeping me going. I don't have a relationship with my family. My father tries to have a relationship with me but it is very fake. He didn't help with anything when my mom passed away, i was all alone in dealing with selling her house, packing, and all the funeral bills and expenses. He was very uncaring and still is, all he thinks about is himself. They weren't officially divorced, only separated...so alot of the things I took care of were in his name also. My husband and I have a small landscaping business that isn't doing very much business right now due to the economy. Thankfully he has another job. I have no college education and need a job. I am feeling very depressed because I would like to go to college but the course I want to take doesn't offer student loan and I just can't afford to take it. Plus my father keeps asking me about when I am going to start taking the class and I keep telling him I can't afford it. (he makes 60k a year and lives with his father and has no bills, u think he'd offer to give me the 1500 to take the class?) It hurts me because he never did anything for me and knows I want to take this class but I can't afford it. While he talks about buying himself a car and taking vacations to florida.... I just feel very worthless right now because my husband is the only one working, we don't have health insurance.... i just feel like i have the weight of the world on my shoulders. I need some advice....some help. It is just very hard to be forced to be out on your own at 21 when your parent dies, I have no family/father to turn to..its just my husband and myself. Even tho I am 27 now i still feel like I am struggling emotionally to get things together.. moreResolved Question: How to start off a landscaping business?

20 years ago my husband and I started a landscape business. I worked side by side with him digging holes, hauling sod, etc. After a full days work, I would continue to work on the paperwork until bedtime. I had to quit the physical labor when I got pregnant, but after the baby was born I started back. During those years, we had three children and after the third child, we had built the business up to where I could stay at home with the paperwork. Now we have separated and he keep saying that I will not see one dime of "his" business because I don't deserve it. He and I were the only two employees when we started. For the first three years, I worked for free and we lived off of his salary. How can he have this attitude? It really hurts. I am the mother of his children and he feels I deserve nothing. If he had gone in business with another man and that man wanted out, it would be split down the middle with no questions asked. Since it is a wife asking for it, I am considered a gold digging bitch. moreResolved Question: Can you correct this passage for any grammar mistakes?
Last week, was declared national Love-Your-Garden-Week Horticulturists of America. On-Line, I purchased a couple of tomato plants because my garden is bigger than my house, has only flowers and no vegetables. Leave it to me: I bought too many and now I have less space than necessary. Looking back, I wish the yard was landscaped by our properties developer to accommodate an avid gardener like me. So now I have to lay the tomatoes down in pots not over two feet from my backdoor. Temperatures will be lower in the summer, so I may have to replant some plants prior to tomatoing. Nevertheless, the garden shop owner - like all good business men would - gave me a verbal commitment that once the growth is underway, the plants wil grow as long as they do not have any averse conditions like sun block. With those tips in mind, I composed what should be a suitable environment for my tomatoes, whose first products will go to my mom. In principle, I have now taken a mean condition and managed to elude the potential negative effects. At the start of school in the fall, I may even head a garden club group for whoever else might be interested at this moment right now except to say that I'm excited. That would be a really rare gathering for our school which was recently name top 100 school by a national commission. Looking for mostly english teachers to correct this. Hi, Please be honest, I am asking for advise to provide a means for my family and I am not interested in opinions of Unions unless they pertain to the topic. I am currently a 4.0 student for three quarters in Horticulture at my community college. By the time I decide to take this offer or not I would have in 5 quarters total. Upon completion of all courses, I will have an AAS, and an opportunity to attend a state college with Junior standing. I have done landscaping for years with many companies. My goal for attending college was to have as much knowledge as possible to give me that leverage for competition for engaging in my own company. My resources for startup equipment is very limited though. My family and I desire to have a small piece of property with our name on it too. Since starting college, my work has been very limited because school has been my higher priority because of it's potential. I got an offer from my girlfriends cousin to work with him doing masonry work for the union. He promises me that the work with the company he is with will be there. He asks that I stick around for at least one full year if I do it, and emphasized that he doesn't do this for friends and has had done it for family, but reluctantly. The toss up is that I can build a career that can make my ends meet sooner if I take this offer, but my desire is to run my own hort related business (not necessarily in landscaping/maintenance). Hey there, I'm in the Fort Smith, Arkansas area. I am 18, and I would like to start my own business. I have chosen the landscaping/Lawn mowing business, I have no experience, I do like lawns, but i don't have a strong passion for them. I chose this business to generate cash flow. Today is my first day of research, I will take any & all advice I can get, it can be as little as a paragraph Or even 5 or 6 pages long, i will appreciate it, and soak it all up, I really need a lot of answers to questions I don't even have yet. Right off the top of my head, here are a few research questions that I have. You can skip this and give me what ever advice you have, but also I will need these answers some how. Thank you :) Questions: 1.What are the requirements by law, for me to do business as a lawn mower/or landscaper. Exactly what licenses, and paper work will I need to fill out etc. And any other requirement, to do this type of business that I will need. 2.What equipment will I need? About how much will it cost for everything? New/Used 3.What do most lawn Mowing companies/Landscapers even do? We don't have one so I wouldn't know. I know they cut the grass & blow the leaves, but i'm sure there is more to it. What is most common, and does it take extensive training? 4.In total, how much do you estimate it would cost me to get started? Im in Fort Smith area, and imagine i had 1 truck w/ 2-3 guys, and business is pretty good. Also, how much did it cost for you to get started? 5.This question is like part 2 to my first question, What all do I need to be legitimate? Insurance? would I need a commercial property? 6.And how hard is it to keep track of my taxes & stuff? & do we get charged alot of tax in this business? I am sure most of my questions are annoying, but they are the fresh ones off the top of my head, this is my first day of research. He is urging banks to lend more to small business. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091024/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_obama_small_businesses Government would help small business formation and survival a lot better if it cut out a lot of regulations. For example, someone thinking about selling a few plants potted from their garden at at flea market would have to get a landscaping license from the state to be legal, and the cost of that yearly license fee would probably exceed the revenues of a casual seller. Can you imagine someone trying to start a food business in their kitchen like Mrs. Fields did? Regulations would mean the hurdle of a big start up cost. Or if people tried to sell apples and cherries from trees in their yard they would probably be fined. Can you imagine Bill Gates wanting a Small Business Loan at the stage when he was still working in his garage? Small businesses do not need loans until they have actually taken off, and it does not help the entrepreneur to push unnecessary borrowing on him. Small Business Administration Loans are not cheap either. Oddly enough, the government tries to push those loans on people whose houses have suffered a weather disaster to use that money to rebuild. And it helps neither the entrepreneur or the economy for General Loan Committees of banks to lower their standards moreResolved Question: If you take out a bank loan to start a?

Falconhead Capital Forms GPSI Holdings, World's Leading Provider of Cart-Mounted Gps Services to Golf Courses Three-Way Merger Creates Market Leader With Systems Deployed on Nearly 1,000 Courses; Extensive Synergies Position New Company for Long-Term Success NEW YORK, Oct 16, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- --Partners With Greg Norman Falconhead Capital, LLC, a private equity firm specializing in consumer-focused businesses in the leisure, lifestyle, sport and media categories, today announced the formation of GPSI Holdings, LLC ("GPSI"), the world's leading provider of cart-mounted GPS services to golf courses. GPSI was created through the acquisition of and subsequent three-way merger of GPS Industries, Inc., ProLink Systems, Inc., and a series of assets previously owned by David Chessler, who has been named CEO of GPSI. GPS Industries was acquired through a sale process conducted under Section 363 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. Financial terms of the transactions were not disclosed. Falconhead has immediately established GPSI as the leading player in the golf cart-mounted GPS industry globally, with systems deployed on nearly 1,000 courses predominantly in North America and Europe. Falconhead expects that the acquisition of these businesses at very attractive valuations, and their combination, will result in significant cost, revenue and technological synergies that will position GPSI for significant profitable growth. In particular, GPSI will implement extensive product and service improvements that will benefit customers and enhance the playing experience for players around the world. Falconhead's partner in GPSI is Greg Norman, the professional golfer and head of Great White Shark Enterprises, a corporation primarily focused on golf. Mr. Norman, a long-time member of Falconhead's advisory board, was involved in conceiving and executing the transactions. He will own a significant equity stake in GPSI and has entered into an agreement to promote the company's business. As part of GPSI's long-term growth strategy, the Company has established an exclusive partnership with Club Car to leverage its sales force of more than 120 representatives and its extensive global distribution network. Club Car, a member of the Industrial Technologies sector of Ingersoll-Rand plc (NYSE: IR), is a leading manufacturer of golf cars, utility vehicles and a wide range of task-oriented vehicles serving multiple markets. David S. Moross, chairman and chief executive officer of Falconhead Capital, said: "We are proud to create the leading provider of cart-mounted GPS services to golf courses. The transactions that led to the formation of GPSI Holdings further demonstrate our ability to pursue and complete complex investment opportunities, and the new company is highly complementary to our investment strategy given our long ties to golf, and our expertise in leisure and lifestyle. By bringing together these three businesses, we have created a new company with the financial strength, operational efficiency, technology expertise, business model and geographic reach necessary to succeed over the long term. "We are fortunate that our friend Greg Norman is our partner in GPSI, given his immense stature in the golf world as a player and businessman. We look forward to working together to further build this powerful platform," Mr. Moross concluded. Mr. Norman said, "This transaction further promotes the consolidation of the industry which started with GPS Industries' acquisition of UpLink in late 2008 and now includes the merger with ProLink and ProView. This consolidation, together with other strategies, several of which specifically capitalize on the current economic landscape, will position GPSI to realize its full potential. It has been a pleasure to work closely with David and the Falconhead team, and we look forward to a very successful venture." I rent a house in Maui. It's a 3/2 with an attached studio that is rented out separately from my side of the house. I have been here for 1 yr 4 mo. When I moved in the studio tenant was moving out. The studio was empty for a while then the landlord put a woman in there from a halfway house. She was on a program where she couldn't have roommates because of her unstable mental history. Things started out ok, but progressed into an uncomfortable living situation for all on my side of the house and her lease was not renewed and she had to move out. Thank you landlord for that nice choice of tenant there. Now the landlord filled the studio with a girl who is straight out of rehab for a dwi, is a call girl, and still drinks beer like a fish!! (Trust me I have proof of all I say) We complain to the landlord- who ignores us and tells us she is a good person and none of this can be true. We have a conference call with the landlord and the real homeowners. We tell everyone our concerns (we want the studio tenant out and the landlord to go as well) and they say they will let us know the verdict. never heard anything more from them. since then the tenant in the studio complains to the landlord her a/c is out (she runs day and night) so the landlord sends us a nasty email accusing us of flipping off her fuse some other things and mistakingly includes the actual homeowners email addresses. So when I hit reply it went to the landlord and the homeowners. I state my case, tell the landlord what a crummy business she is running, and give my 28 day notice. Send. 20 minutes later one of the homeowners call me and ask how I never got their decision that they want the studio tenant out and for us to stay and the landlord was supposed to handle it! Wow! News to me!!!? The landlord never told us anything! The homeowner couldn't believe it! Now I want to know if its actually possible to get rid of the studio tenant who has 5 mo to go on a 6 mo lease. We do fear for our home from her, and our possessions. My roommates truck has had a window smashed and beer poured in it all over. Our garden and landscape has been torn up. We know she did it. Ugh. Plus the men she has over are creepy, I wonder if she has one of those ads in the back of the local paper... Can her lease be terminated somehow??? Please tell me it can!!!Also- how much proof do I need to get a restraining order on her? I know the cops know her from them already being here multiple times for her. One cop said she has trouble with everyone she lives next to and her ex already has a restraining order on her. So she has a record. moreResolved Question: My dad is relocating us to New Zealand? Opinions from Kiwis?
I'm 16 years old, 17 by the time we move to NZ. I currently live in ATL, georgia, US My father is relocating us (my father and i) there to start a business. He absolutely LOVES rugby, as do I. Some of my main concerns are about the schools, about soccer (futbol) and obviously teenage life. Are the highschools there mainly separated by gender, or are there co-ed schools as well? Do they have a good deal of soccer there and do they play it as a highschool sport? He is looking around and is concentrating on areas around Wellington, Christchurch and possibly an area somewhere outside of Auckland. Can anyone give me a little insight into what these areas are about? I want to study to be a photojournalist, the photography, i figured, would be ideal for landscape.. Are those areas artistic at all? and how big are Kiwis with music? also, is it hard to understand what they are saying because of their slang? I'm excited to move, but i also dont know a whole lot.. I've done some research and watched some movies.. but I'd like to hear some personal experiences. The good AND the bad.. Thanks! moreResolved Question: What is the best dslr camera choice for me? (Nikon vs. Canon)?
Well I know I'm diving right into the old Canon vs. Nikon debate but here goes... I'm a young modernish photographer attending college for photography (silly isn't it?) and although I have a dslr already (Nikon D70, love it, but the old boy's getting outdated) I want to know what the absolute BEST camera out there is for ME. And although I've leaned toward Nikon in the past, I am completely open to Canon as well since I have not begun to pour money into lenses.. yet. I want to be able to shoot everything to the utmost quality from portraits to action photography events I get hired to from time to time like skating tourneys, and concerts. But the center of business is usually band photos, weddings, and senior portraits. Basically I want the best of the best for the best value. I'm not made of money but I'm willing to spend whatever I have to to get the best features. And as with the Nikon/Canon debate I want to go with the one that can offer me the best for what I do. My pictures revolve around people and events not landscapes or flowers (although those are nice too! :)) And trust me I'm very aware that both Nikon and Canon are both awesome brands but I'm just wondering which one will fit my needs best. Anyways, thanks for reading and leave me some answers so I can get start shopping a little more seriously! -EmilyUpdate: The D70 itself was given to me (I have nice family members) so it's not a money dive issue as much as a new camera purchase things but it only has 6 MP's which I know allows up to like an 11x14 but I have an occasional need for something bigger for school. However I do want a new camera since the previously mentioned family member will want his back upon my upgrade.Whoops: also I want a full frame. And although I don't really want to switch to Canon.. my school allows check out for all their canon lenses which is a huge yet reluctant plus. (they don't have nikon lenses) And i've shot Canons' before too in my highschool days so I am famliar enough with them to make the switch if I need to. But please give me every reason to stay with Nikon too. Because I really do like my trusty little D70. moreResolved Question: HOW to make a lot of $$$ in LANDSCAPING?
i have about 3 - 4 people right now. please give me all the tips you can think of, as well as rates and services. there are no limits. i need to know how to start the business, and keep it running good too. but please tell me how much money various jobs will make me? moreVoting Question: Why are employers stuck with providing health insurance?
I don't get it. I know that during the 1940s, Federal wage controls ordered that salaries could not be raised, so in order to attract good employees, employers threw in perks, such as health insurance covered mostly by the company, thus this tradition of getting your health insurance through your employer became part of the American economic landscape. Why is this still so? I mean, what if you're offered a job you actually like and are good at, but it doesn't offer insurance, and because of your pre-existing condition, you either can't afford the insurance or you are denied. Then, you look to the state for help, but they tell you that because you actually work for a living, you don't qualify or that you earn too much. Employers don't provide you with your car insurance, your renter's insurance, pet insurance, etc., so why are they expected to pick up the tab for health insurance? Also, how are we going to compete if people have trouble starting small business, but can't because of the health insurance situation or people want to work two part-time jobs or work for themselves, but can't because they can't get affordable comprehensive coverage through their jobs; the state denies them because they make too much to qualify, but too little to buy it on the private market? This makes no sense. moreResolved Question: My husband works so much I hardly ever see him and he is working for his dad who never pays him.?
I was out to lunch the other day and stumbled across a serious question that has been bothering my friend for quit some time now. She and her husband are both 20 years old, they have a 5 month old baby, and are currently living with her mother in law. "I haven't spent any one on one time with (say john) in months. He works till midnight every night and never takes a day off. Then he is always late to work in the mornings and gets grumpy about it. By the time he comes home im either in bed or asleep. When I miss him extremely I pop in at his work with dinner and hang out for a bit. I understand he is only 20 and wants to work hard for our family so we can buy a house. I wouldnt mind him working so much, but he isn't getting paid hardly anything. Him and his dad started a business last spring and well its not the best time for anyone to start a business. His dad pays him but only about every 2-3 months. Last paycheck he received for working 2 1/2 months was only for $900.00. He has talked about finding a new job, but has fears that if he leaves and the business takes off he will always be under a $12.00 an hour paycheck and never be ontop as if he would if he has stayed working for his dad. So she asked me two questions. One, she wants to spend more time with him. She wants to be able to have a conversation with him about his day or maybe watch a movie with him before bed. Point blank he isnt around and is not giving her or their baby the attention they want from him. Second, she believes the business would take off is his dad was not in charge of the finances. He cant afford to pay his son, but he can somehow manage to go to the keys on a vacation or buy supplies for his landscaping project at his house. Should she wait around and see what happens with the business or his dad. Or should she say something to him about getting another job. Basicaly she needs him around more and they need money, but he doesnt want to quit where he is for fear of losing a great oppurtunity and letting his dad down.? What should she do??? moreResolved Question: I want this mail is scam or original...please help me....?
