Comcast adds voice to business offering line-up

Comcast Corp. has begun offering voice service to small- and mid-sized business customers in the Houston area.

Now competing with traditional phone companies, the Philadelphia-based communications company's Business Class suite offers an array of communications technologies, many of which have been previously reserved only for large businesses, said Joe Rodriguez, vice president of business services for Comcast Houston.

In addition to being able to keep the same phone number, features offered to voice service customers include unlimited local and long-distance calling for one price, do not disturb, caller ID name and number, three-way calling and voicemail.

Customers will also be able to subscribe to Comcast's Triple Play -- cable television and high-speed Internet, in addition to the voice service, for $99 a month and have all services on one bill. more

Future of furniture business still unclear

Receivers of Wellington's high-end furniture retailer Wade House have not ruled out selling the business as a going concern.

Receiver Eddie Jansen said there was interest from some parties in buying the business as a going concern and others looking to take over its lease.

A recent stock sale had gone well and a second was scheduled for next weekend, he said.

Wade House went into receivership this month. Receivers cited high rents and setup costs at its new larger premises in Thorndon Quay and the softening economy as the main causes.

Final decisions on the company's future would be made in the next few weeks, Mr Jansen said.

The company had about 40 New Zealand and 40 foreign suppliers. It employs 12 staff.

Mr Jansen declined to say how much was owed to creditors or how much the recent stock sale had raised. more

Failure to influence EU law costly for business

Ministers' failure to engage early in the European Union decision-making process and influence new laws has added £45bn to the burden on British business over the past decade, a study has found.

The study, by the British Chambers of Commerce in collaboration with the London and Manchester business schools, finds a disconnect between UK efforts to assess the impact of EU legislation and the actual process of adopting and implementing those laws.
