The Face Of Odd Molly

There will be a photo shoot the same week, to prepare advertisements for publication in leading fashion magazines in the US, England, Italy, Sweden and Denmark, among other countries.

Per Holknekt, Odd Molly's creative director admits that "the decision to contact this dream girl for our campaigns was something of a long shot," it was a gamble that paid off.

"Helena really likes what we do and our partnership is the result of a super simple negotiation," he says. "We have really hit the mark with Helena and she truly embodies our sentiments at Odd Molly, and for that matter, the reverse is also true."

For the ad campaign shoot, which will feature in magazines from January 2009, Helena is being flown in from New York and her photographer, Yelena Yemchuk, from Kiev. more

Hybrid VCSELs set new tunability benchmark

Of the eight institutions included in the project, laser manufacturers Vertilas and IR Microsystems are providing commercial input to bring the devices to the key markets.

A different tune

Meissner points out that although existing lasers offer maximum tunable ranges of around 80 nm, either as external-cavity or edge-emitting devices, VCSELs offer benefits over both.

External-cavity lasers are complex and therefore expensive in comparison to VCSELs, whose lower power consumption can also reduce energy costs. VCSELs also offer tunability without mode-hopping – or sometimes erratic step-changes in wavelength – and longitudinal single-mode light output.

Within Subtune, Meissner's group at Technical University Darmstadt are teaming with their German compatriots at Technical University Munich and Chalmers University, Sweden, to produce InP “half-VCSELs". more

Drivers 'unaware of emission levels'

Fuel efficiency came third behind price and style/look as the thing that grabbed consumers' attention in car advertisements. The poll also revealed that 51% take their car on journeys of less than one mile and 71% for trips of less than 1.5 miles.

EST said that if everyone who bought a new car chose the greenest car in its class, a typical motorist could save £375 a year in fuel costs, or nearly £1 billion for all UK motorists. The survey backed up a report of the car market for the last four decades by EST which found that car buyers were making poor choices both economically and environmentally when it came to purchasing new vehicles.

The report pointed to "a market failure" in which more-desirable cars within vehicle model ranges tend to have higher CO2 emissions and where there was a "lack of awareness and advice" about emission-saving. more

How To Start A Massage Therapy Business Questions asked

Voting Question: Want to Start a Small Business?

I want to start a small business. I am eighteen years old, a bit young to be operating a small business for what I'd like to be doing, but, nonetheless I wanna try. Anyways, my idea is a New Age/Gift Shop. It'll have gifts and things you can buy, also it will have services such as massage therapy and spiritual services as well. I was just wondering how I would be able to get the money to do it since I am only eighteen, and how I would be able to get inventory and such. Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Concerned business owner-Can aluminum foil block my alarm from being triggered if some how used on my sensors?

Ok, so I recently added retail to my growing massage therapy and salon studio. I have transformed my waiting room into a small shop of which I've begun to sell such things as yoga mats, incense, music, my home made massage oils, herbs and minerals, hair and beauty products, and a small clothing line that a friend of mine has started shortly after receiving her degree in design. This part of my studio is also home to my best-friend and business partner's salon. Anyway, so we have many things going on here and I find it to be, though it may be my work, the funnest and most relaxing place around. BUT HERE IS MY PROBLEM*** I remember as a teen I worked as a store model at Abercrombie & Fitch. During my employment there I would see the managers check every employee as the exited the store by walking them out and the ladies would have to allow their purses to be checked. However, I remember a story told to me by one of my managers about a shoplifting employee who lined her designer purse with aluminum foil to block the sensor from triggering the alarm on stolen clothing. I recently found the need with our growing careers to hire a receptionist who would also work as a cashier for both salon and massage purposes as well as our premiering boutique as I like to call it. WELL AFTER DOING INVENTORY.......I was shocked, disappointed, and quite honestly VERY ANGRY to see that not only am I being robbed, but I'm LOSING money due to shoplifters. I don't know if you are at all familiar with the line of products we carry, but they're not cheap and our services are so very hands on, intricate, and time consuming that we a required to be costly to the point of luxurious. This however, is NOT a very profiting area of business in this economy so when we stocked our studio and began selling relative products we were thrilled to see that our clients were spending more and that the recently added merchandise was attracting more customers who are often now turning into clients. We do not sell cheap items. So each item lost to shoplifting is near devastating. I have looked over our surveillance videos and have seen a few suspicious customers, not to profile but usually teenage girls, and despite my camera and recently added sensor-alarm towers at my front door, I am still being robbed. I noticed my new girl Sydney had brought a roll of aluminum foil one day and had left it in our break room. ...And having not yet confirmed who exactly is shoplifting my paranoia began. I used a sharpie to mark on the roll of foil so I could tell when someone has used it. I have started noticing that it is being used on different occasions but that there is not always something in our fridge or counters covered by it on some days. My new girl also brings two large bags with her, one being a book bag (she's in high school) and the other is a rather big (although I'm nearly certain it's fake) Louis Vuittion bag. I don't want to be so paranoid that I have to search through her bags but I'm not catching anyone else. I have permanently locked my rear exit so that even my partner and myself now enter and exit through the front. I don't want to seem like I'm profiling or that I'm treating her unfairly, but I am worried. Sydney is a very good employee. She's a very pretty girl and is very welcoming to my customers and clients, which is perfect in our business. BUT she also does our stocking, handles our money, our client schedules, cleaning and even though I have sensored all our products I'm worried that after not having caught the thieving customer, that it might be my employee...... Opinions....?Honestly I can't afford any more staff and there really isn't a need for more employees. During our operating hours I'm usually in the massage suite for a large part of the day and my friend who is our stylist only comes in for appointments. My one security camera is in the back right corner of the shop. When you walk in it's our largest room we have. If you go straight back we have a small hall with 3 rooms on one side and 2 on the other. My office is the first door on the right and the security camera is just wired straight from the back corner through the dry wall and runs to the base computer. Having another camera set up would be a whole big ordeal and not to mention more money. I thought I was being smart by buying the brand and model of security sensors that I did. The type that I use and how I've set it up with my system is that the item must be "rang up" and paid for before the sensor remover will work. We don't have bar codes on all of our items but they all have codes. Also since we don't have bar codes and a scanner, all our products are listed in our computer just like a grocery store so that when the numerical code it typed in, the item will appear off our list and items everyday are logged, then leaving me with a daily inventory. Since we aren't a huge store, if I really want to I can do daily inventory at the end of every day by printed off the lists of what was purchased and what should be remaining which will do even more by allowing me to see what items are missing each day. I have done this a couple of times but it takes FOREVER and after I finish I have to review the videos to look for the culprit. I just want to know who it is. When I have a client in for a massage I can't control what happens in the store and have to depend on my employee. I have asked her politely if she has mistakenly or even purposely taken something from our store without purchasing it and she of course has said no, but unless my well known clients are then Idk... more

Resolved Question: How can I write a good LMT introductory letter to area physicians?

I have been a massage therapist for a couple of years now, but I'm really just getting started in terms of actually marketing my business. I work in a small town and would like to write a letter to the physicians in this area letting them know that I am available to work with their patients. I know that I want to speak to them about how massage therapy is a complimentary therapy to western medicine, but don't know how to say it. I should mention where I'm located, that I bill medical insurance, etc, but how? Thanks for any helpful advice! more

Resolved Question: How do you increase high school marks if you are out of high school for 2-4 years?

How do you increase, or get a course you never took before if you've been out of high school for 2 to 4 years. I'm thinking about going to a CC, but if I decide to go to uni or college, and I'm missing a course like uni English or something from my high school days. How would I get that? Man I'm hating this. I want to work on myself first.. I hate my personality atm, and I've been changing and reading constantly every day. But HIGHSCHOOL is so annoying, I'm so behind in projects it's impossible for me to get a good mark now in my uni classes. I already graduated though, and have everything.. I was just collecting grd 12 uni math n english just in case, but its hard, and school really isn't my thing. Its in my family to be very successful - and I feel like such a failure.. but two of my cousins never went to school after high school, and they both own very successfully businesses. I wish I could do that. I love the stock market myself... and owning a business would be cool. Massage therapy will allow me to own my own business and handle myself. Hopfully enough to move out, work, and continue to read and work on my self image and such - pick up girls, have my fun, learn an instrument(cajon), and enjoy life. That's my dream. But it all starts with an easy course I can get into with marks averaging around 50s to get a decent job. That sounds VERY hard to believe. ;p I hate this part of my life.. :< more

Resolved Question: How do I become a freelance make-up artist?

I have a natural talent for applying make-up and would love to put this to good use by becoming a make-up artist and ideally, starting my own business. I'm not talking about the sort of make-up artist that works on photoshoots and TV, I'd prefer to do weddings and other occasions. I know that in my area there are hardly any make-up artists with their own business (in fact, yell.com only lists one in about a 50 mile radius), so I know there is room for another one! I've found a make-up course which says it offers the certificate to allow you to go on and get insurance and set up your own business but it's only a one-day course, which doesn't seem long enough to get a recognised qualification, but then I wouldn't know how long it should take. Has anyone done a one-day course and become qualified as a make-up artist? Also, after I've received the official qualification (whether it's a one-day course or longer), how do I then go about getting insurance and setting up a business? Are there any further courses I should do (such as business studies???). Any help and advice greatly appreciated! Note: Please don't tell me to take a Beauty Therapy course as this is NOT what I want to go into- I only want to do the make-up side of things, not the waxing, tinting, massaging etc more

Resolved Question: I'm poor and on my own. How can I get started on my future?

I know what I want to do with my life. I'm very passionate about movies and I really want to pursue some sort of career in film. The problem is that I'm having a really hard time getting settled. 6 months ago, I was living with my mom. Things were great because I had a job and I was being smart with my money by saving it and having a budget. If I was still there, I would probably be back in school. But things went downhill because my mom couldn't afford for us to live there anymore. My mom moved really far away and I didn't want to move with her because of the distance. I moved away not as far as her but far enough for me to find it necessary to quit my job. It's been 6 months and I was only able to find a part time, temporary job that just ended and barely paid my rent. I'm going to be moving in with my boyfriend to help my living situation, but I'm currently jobless and I really want to go back to school. I was considering going to school for massage therapy or something like it where I can get a job with good money and hours, but I would only go in the hopes of getting a job to live comfortably. And I don't want to waste money on a school I may not like. I've already done that before and the student loans are the main reason my mom is broke. I'm rambling, but it's because I'm so confused on where I should start and how to get back on my feet. Which should I do first, get money or capture my dream as a filmmaker? Should I just get a part time job and attend a community college to pursue a degree in cinema and business? Or should I try to get a job with good pay and benefits and pursue my career in film later? more

Resolved Question: How do you start a business?

Voting Question: How can i go to cosmetology school if I can't afford it?

I desperately want to go to cosmetology school. The problem is, I can't find a steady job and i have a student loan in default status. I went to massage therapy school, and I had really bad timing, because after one year of doing really well in business and financially, the economy problems started affecting me. I feel like if i have a cosmetologist's (and sooner of later esthitician's) certificate, I could get a good job. And, I really really want to go to cosmetology school. Really bad. I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and I can't get the ACE scholarship because there are no qualified schools. I do have mental illnesses, is there anyway I can get scholarships or grants for that? HELP PLEASE!!! I really want this! more

Resolved Question: update on kennedy probably just another fake report but its new. take it for what its worth.?

something about how 4 people did it 3 from raw 1 from either smackdown or ecw heres the story. once again I would take this with a grain of salt. The decision was obviously not something planned out in advance, since Kennedy was being heavily advertised on the USA Network this week as “returning” for the 6/1 Raw show from Birmingham, plus, on his TV return, he had a face-to-face confrontation with Randy Orton that seemed to be building an upcoming title program. He was also coming off being the guy a WWE film, “Behind Enemy Lines: Colombia,” was promoted around. The whole idea of WWE films is to both make money, of course, by trying to get the wrestling audience to get the DVDs. But it’s also, when using a non-established superstar in the lead, the idea is the movie will increase the star power of wrestlers the company is looking at as long-term future headliners. After the ten-man on Raw ended, Orton went to Kennedy backstage, not very happy and told him in direct, adamant but not loud terms, to be more careful. Kennedy, in doing a back suplex, dropped Orton on his surgically repaired shoulder. There wasn’t a big blow-up or anything like that but everyone knew Orton wasn’t happy about it. Orton did momentarily lose it in the ring after taking the move, as he started punching the mat in frustration before rolling out of the ring. Orton and Kennedy have been very good friends in the past and often hung out together on the road. There were people after who congratulated Orton on not losing his cool on how he handled it. Orton wasn’t seriously injured and worked a short dark cage match the next night with Batista, and then worked on top during the Mexico tour, although Show was carrying the action in the tag matches over the weekend. Orton was icing his shoulder after the match and Orton’s injury was considered more serious than Kennedy’s. He complained of a stiff neck at television the next day and was still icing his shoulder and getting massage therapy, and made comments about Kennedy being a careless worker but it was not any kind of a major piece of conversation at the Smackdown show. Four days later, John Laurinaitis gave Kennedy the phone call, basically saying the boss (Vince) made the call, being nice about it and saying that hopefully in the future they could do business again. Virtually everyone outside the inner circle was shocked, as wrestlers who found out about it after WWE put it in almost a hidden spot on its web site, were doing double-takes like it was nothing they expected. Those on the road didn’t even believe it at first. There was an assumption among many that Orton went to Vince and pushed the issue, but nobody seems to know if that is really the case. It was considered to be a done issue between the two once TV was over. However, that was the straw that broke the camel’s back in Vince McMahon’s mind. On the flight back from Los Angeles after Smackdown, Vince cut a promo on him to the inner circle. He said Kennedy was a reckless worker and said he was green as a mechanic and green when it comes to business instincts. The only real backer he had was Austin, but Austin is pretty much out of the company at this point. A lot of the better workers in the company were not high on him and didn’t like working with him. It was not personal heat but a lack of respect because they saw him as an average talent who was all smoke and mirrors because of his catch phrase. My impression is the guy, as much as he seemed to have a propensity for making himself look like a fool outside the ring, had very strong charisma and a good gimmick. A couple of top guys, Orton not being one of them, were believed to have gone to Vince bad mouthing Kennedy. At least four of the company’s best wrestlers did not like working with him, three of whom were on the Raw brand he had just been drafted to. Matt Hardy on his Myspace page said Kennedy was one of his best friends in the company and hated to hear the news he was gone, and others have corroborated that he was popular with a lot of the wrestlers. It is believed TNA has an interest in him, but in his case, the situation would be that TNA would likely want him to sign a three-year deal. One person close to Kennedy noted that he’s looking forward to going to TNA in September (after his 90-day non-compete period ends), that he has a lot of confidence and believes he can be a real top guy, but believes Vince McMahon doesn’t see him at that level. It would hurt me if Cena or Orton had to do anything with it considering they're two people I highly look up to and they got me into wrestling more

Resolved Question: How deep is your role in a company as an intern?

I am a first year communications and international relations major. I have finished my internship at an NGO and decided to work for a health care service company that specializes in massage therapy until the start of my third semester to gain more experience and earn some extra income. Apart from my boss and his partner we are all interns! He claims that he is taking us under his wing and is guiding each of us in our respective fields, but he makes us do everything in his company. And most of us are biting more than we can chew. As a communications intern I agreed to translate the company's website into two different languages and to write articles for magazines and newspapers about the company's health care sessions and courses. But he wants me to book radio and tv interview and make a deal with the ministry of tourism so that they promote his company to tourists. He also wants me to work on the company's pamphlets and flayers as well as help other interns write articles. Furthermore he is disappointed that my articles have not been published by a major newspaper. I believe most newspapers require the company to pay for the space of their advertisements, but he wants them for free. So i have to email and fax the adverts and hope that the newspaper has a spare space somewhere, but so far i have not had any luck. The business, management and multimedia interns all have to "multitask" as well, even if it is not related to their field of study. I have tried my best to accomplish the tasks set in the contract as well as the other ones but he has complained that my work has not produced any real income for the company. Are interns usually expected to generate income for the business or institution they are working for? I think my boss is abusing his power over us. He repeatedly threatens us that he will not write a recommendation letter nor an evaluation letter for their university. He also reduces our monthly allowance by 30% to 50 % when he is not satisfied with our work. Some of the interns have complained to their colleges. Lecturers have met with my boss but he usually fires the interns a few days later or they quit by themselves. He then quickly finds new ones to replace them. Is there any way that I can prevent this unfair treatment towards my fellow students and towards myself? To put the icing on the cake, the place where i work is very dirty. There are piles of papers everywhere, the desks are dusty, the carpets are dirty and there are cockroaches! Sometimes they crawl on my desk or on my feet. I spray my working area and wear bug repellent, but it doesn't really help. Don't these sanitary conditions break the health laws? During my second semester, i wrote articles for a college newspaper that is distributed to several colleges and universities around the city . I was thinking of writing an article on this internship experience for my college newspaper after i finish my term with the company so as to warn others and expose the company's ill treatment. Are there any ethical issues that would prevent me from writing about it because I was a former intern there? thanks more

Resolved Question: When someone tells you that you won't achieve something does that make you want to prove them wrong?

I am still hurt by what this middle aged chick and her pathetic senior citizen sidekick at my church said. This chick named Rochelle tried to make me feel bad just because I don't follow the crowd. She said that I won't be successful just because I don't always wear suits to church or fancy clothing.I am at church to get the word of God.I am not there for a fashion show. Its church, not a fashion runway. She said that God won't bless me as much just because I don't wear suits. She said I won't get a husband just because I don't go all out as far as clothing. Resolved Question: My girlfriend and I broke up after our first argument. I thought we were gonna get back together, but...?

I freaked out and said that I didn't want that. It was an initial reaction and it scared me. I said if she was sure about it, that maybe we shouldn't be together. I grabbed my things and then 2 days later, after being able to think clearly, and recognize that I wanted to be with her and needed to support her in that, I apologized. She had a friend die in that time. We saw a sunset and I let her talk about her mourning process. I again apologized and said I wanted to work it out. She said to give her some time. I saw her before I went out of town this week and she said she wasn't assuaging me, but wanted to process things and she would talk to me when I returned. I told her she had my heart and she said I had hers. yesterday, she texted me a good morning and called me for the first time in 2 weeks. It was a nice conversation. She said she had taken my dog the night before and was lying with him, and I didn't push anything about the relationship. I didn't even tell her I loved her to respect her space. I was really hopeful and confident that we were going to work things out. Today, I came home and she has dropped off all of my things, even my toothbrush. I texted and asked her if I should drop her things off and she said she still had some things of mine and that I could drop them off in the morning when she was home. Am I crazy, or is that nuts? Is this her wanting to cleanse herself so we can start over? or is it just over? How can things turn around in 24 hours like that? Should I tell her tomorrow that I want to work things out, or should I expect her to break up with me and act okay with it??? Some advice would be great. And no, there isn't anyone else in either of our lives. We are both in our mid thirties, and up until the argument, she had said she wanted to have a family with me, we discussed marriage, moving in plans in December, and are scheduled to take a trip in 3 weeks (tickets already gotten). more

Resolved Question: I am starting massage therapy school I have some questions?

I start Monday, i am extrmemly excited! The questions I have are: 1. How difficult is it to pass the exam to get your state License? I'm in SC and I'm a great student and plan on working my a** off. Any statistics on the pass/fail rate? 2. Once i graduate, I plan on doing massage therapy part time at first. Is it possible to make this into a full time career? Making decent money? 3. I would eventually like to add other things to my massage business such as Reiki, Hot stone therapy and things like that. What are some other similar techniques I can look into and do you need to be certified to those as well? Any feedback and/or advice is appriciated! Thanks! more
