Chamber of Commerce honours Etobicoke's business leaders

The Etobicoke Chamber of Commerce honoured seven of the best and brightest local business leaders at the 11th Annual Business Excellence Awards Gala dinner on March 17.

Naresh Bangia, president and CEO of AJB Software Design Inc., was named Business Person of the Year for the rapid expansion of his company from a single customer to an organization serving more than 132 of North America, the UK and Europe's first rate companies over its short, 14-year history.

"We were thrilled to be nominated and win," said Aleem Ulla, AJB's director of business development, on behalf of Bangia. "Naresh grew up in Etobicoke and lives here now, so he acknowledges what the Etobicoke community has done for him. He couldn't have done it without the people of Etobicoke."

Started in 1994 out of Bangia's basement with a vision to build simplified payment solution systems, AJB and its trademark Retail Transaction Switch (RTS) was born. more

March 31 deadline set for business loan applications

The Winona County Economic Development Authority says not all the businesses affected by last August's flood have applied for assistance through the county's business recovery loan fund.Now, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development has set a March 31 application deadline to meet a June allocation and planning deadline.
"We were forced to do that by DEED," said Linda Grover, county EDA director. "I wanted to keep it open as long as we could."Grover said 45 applications have been submitted so far, but preliminary indicators by the county assessor showed nearly 100 businesses were damaged. The statistics indicate folks are slipping through the cracks, she said."A few things are happening: People don't want to deal with the government, or they may believe thisprogram is more complicated and they don't want to give up private financial information," Grover said. more

'India may transform global business landscape by 2018'

NEW DELHI: India, along with emerging market peers China, Brazil and Russia, is expected to transform the global business landscape and will have a greater influence on the markets across the world by 2018, a study says.

The study by UK-based Chartered Management Institute looking ahead to 2018, predicted what the world of work and management would look like and examined how organisations can prepare for it.

"In the probable future, Brazil, Russia, India and China (BRIC) nations will have a greater influence on business markets and transform the business landscape," the study said in its description of the most probable picture of the world of work and management in 2018.

The study also revealed that the business markets would be noticeably influenced by new players from India, Brazil, Russia, China, Eastern Europe and other developing countries as well as global businesses. more

Chamber president to talk to business group

Novato Chamber of Commerce president Paul Hutcheson will be the guest speaker for the monthly meeting of the Downtown Novato Business Association from 6 to 7 p.m. April 2 at Cacti Restaurant at 1200 Grant Ave. in Novato.

A networking meeting at 5:30 p.m. will precede the general meeting. Hutcheson also is the publisher of the Novato Advance.
