Business Magazine Names Chicago 'City of the Year'

Saying the city is "in the vanguard of creativity," a national business magazine named Chicago its U.S. City of the Year on Monday. Fast Company magazine chose Chicago as part of its annual Fast Cities list, according to a release from the magazine. London was named Global City of the Year. "Fast Cities are worldwide centers of creativity that embody economic innovation and opportunity," Editor/Managing Director Bob Safian said. "These cities attract the best and brightest, and are great places to work and live. They are bursting with diversity -- in race, in culture and in business." What makes Chicago "fast," the magazine said, is its "economy is growing faster than New York's or L.A.'s. The city is in the vanguard of creativity, from environmental policy to politics, architecture and music." It cited the city's role as "a pioneer in urban greening" to the way architect Santiago Calatrava "is redefining the form of the American skyscraper with his Chicago Spire," as part of its appeal. more

Microsoft Hyper-V and Spin Marketing - Sun’s Comments

As I mentioned in the post, Microsoft Hyper-V and Spin Marketing, a number of companies contacted me in the hopes of presenting their view of Microsoft's Hyper-V announcement. This is Sun's response.

A Sun representative sent some comments about the Hyper-V launch to me as well. Sun's comments echo those made by Virtual Iron.

Here's a lovely quote from Sun's message:

Sun's perspective is that live migration is like table wine, it's good, but not enough. Sun believes that other forms are also necessary when looking at hypervisors. For example, warm migration, which is freezing the server, moving it, and then bringing it back up. Cold migration, which involves taking your network down to perform scheduled maintenance, is a necessary feature for disaster recovery. more

Oklahoma Tech Company Expands Church Offerings

Steve Caton, vice president of sales and marketing for CCB, said the alliance will help his company stay focused on core competency.

"We could provide a Web site solution to our customers," he said. "But our mission is to provide a world-class church management solution. By aligning with Element Fusion, our customers now have access to a comprehensive Web site solution that works well with our technology without compromising quality."

But just because the companies have aligned, churches can still purchase the services separately.

Element Fusion's church Web sites start at $1,995. Monthly charges for Element Fusion's offerings run from $29 to $199.

CCB's pricing varies depending on the services a church needs. The company works with more than 800 churches around the world. more

"This move will further strengthen our global cost competitiveness by increasing our capabilities to source raw materials, drive production efficiencies and deliver improved supply chain economics."
