Business Landscaping Own Starting Questions asked

Voting Question: Should I stay in Switzerland or emigrate to Costa Rica?

I am originally from Mexico, grew up in California and now living in Zurich, Switzerland. I am in my early 40`s, have two almost grown up kids (19, 16) and divorced. I love the beautiful landscape, the quality of life, the great social benefits, and above all, the sense of feeling safe in Switzerland. But at this point of my life, I want to have my own business, and I want to spend the rest of my life in a warm, sunny place like Costa Rica. Would it be a sensible choice to leave everything behind and start in CR? Does anybody live in Costa Rica? Do you feel safe there? Thank you, thank you... more

Voting Question: Am I going to get screwed next year on taxes?

I just got married in 9/2009. My husband was unemployed for that year so when I did my taxes it didn't make a difference in mine since he had no income. Him and his buddy are planning on starting their own landscaping company this year with a "business account" in their names. I'm wondering if that will affect my taxes next year, like not getting back as much, or does it not affect mine since it will be him and his buddy? I'm wondering because I have my employer take out more taxes so that i get more back on my tax refund and if i'm not going to get much because of their business I would like to change my stuff so that my checks are bigger...............thanks for any help in advance!Yes, we filed jointly this year. All i'm trying to find out is how much his business with his buddy will affect our taxes. They do plan on doing the quarterly payments. more

Resolved Question: Can we really depend on the "Private Sector"?

So many times I have heard Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Republican Politicians say that we should trust the Private Sector to create jobs. The belief that Government has no responsibility to create jobs, which is far of base, and that we should depend on the PS, seems to be the backdrop for the argument of "less government". But when I look closely at the way people have changed, I don't trust the private sector at all! The landscape of why people start businesses up is not to offer services and be proud of that, no...its to get rich! People want more!!! More cars, bigger homes for their families of 4, larger investment portfolios, and the very worse...more money in the Bank! This is a fact.(look it up) More money is owned by the richest than ever before. It used to be around 2 percent now its approaching 10! That's a lot of money that is not in circulation. No one talks about the money that is simply being hoarded and not doing anything to help those that need work. The difference in mindset is so different than it was 40 years ago when individuals had some sense of when enough is enough. Everyone of those who invested with Bernie Maddoff already had enough money, so why did they do it? Greed. Your thoughts, can we really depend on the Private Sector to operate like it used too? And to those who want to blame Obama, stop! The Private Sectors' decline in creating jobs has been going on for that past 10 years. more

Resolved Question: Is it hard to start up my own garden maintenance business ?

Im 17 years old, im at college and i do a plumbing course. But lately ive decided that im going to finish the rest of this year then next year start a landscape gardening course. I was just wondering though, as i will have the whole summer off and i dont have a job, would it be hard for someone like me just to start doing a few bits E.g. mowing lawns, weeding, turning flower beds over, just a few basic things you know, nothing like trimming a hedge in to a sculpture or anything like that. Im only looking to make a bit of extra money in the summer on basic work. I dont think theres much competition round where i live either so thats a good thing right ? So does anyone have any suggestions on this, like do they think it would be good or would it basically be me just wasting time ? thanks ! more

Resolved Question: Anybody else feeling depressed and helpless? i need advice?

I am 27 years old. I am an only child. When I was 17 my dad left and completely changed and moved on with his life, didn't pay child support, didn't care about me or my mom anymore. At 21 my mom passed away from a brief illness. I was/am still very traumatized. I have no siblings and her side of the family placed blame on me because they were angry with my father for what he did to my mother, so i don't speak to my family. I am married to a great man, thankfully...He is what is keeping me going. I don't have a relationship with my family. My father tries to have a relationship with me but it is very fake. He didn't help with anything when my mom passed away, i was all alone in dealing with selling her house, packing, and all the funeral bills and expenses. He was very uncaring and still is, all he thinks about is himself. They weren't officially divorced, only separated...so alot of the things I took care of were in his name also. My husband and I have a small landscaping business that isn't doing very much business right now due to the economy. Thankfully he has another job. I have no college education and need a job. I am feeling very depressed because I would like to go to college but the course I want to take doesn't offer student loan and I just can't afford to take it. Plus my father keeps asking me about when I am going to start taking the class and I keep telling him I can't afford it. (he makes 60k a year and lives with his father and has no bills, u think he'd offer to give me the 1500 to take the class?) It hurts me because he never did anything for me and knows I want to take this class but I can't afford it. While he talks about buying himself a car and taking vacations to florida.... I just feel very worthless right now because my husband is the only one working, we don't have health insurance.... i just feel like i have the weight of the world on my shoulders. I need some advice....some help. It is just very hard to be forced to be out on your own at 21 when your parent dies, I have no family/father to turn to..its just my husband and myself. Even tho I am 27 now i still feel like I am struggling emotionally to get things together.. more

Resolved Question: Union Masonry or finish college first?

Hi, Please be honest, I am asking for advise to provide a means for my family and I am not interested in opinions of Unions unless they pertain to the topic. I am currently a 4.0 student for three quarters in Horticulture at my community college. By the time I decide to take this offer or not I would have in 5 quarters total. Upon completion of all courses, I will have an AAS, and an opportunity to attend a state college with Junior standing. I have done landscaping for years with many companies. My goal for attending college was to have as much knowledge as possible to give me that leverage for competition for engaging in my own company. My resources for startup equipment is very limited though. My family and I desire to have a small piece of property with our name on it too. Since starting college, my work has been very limited because school has been my higher priority because of it's potential. I got an offer from my girlfriends cousin to work with him doing masonry work for the union. He promises me that the work with the company he is with will be there. He asks that I stick around for at least one full year if I do it, and emphasized that he doesn't do this for friends and has had done it for family, but reluctantly. The toss up is that I can build a career that can make my ends meet sooner if I take this offer, but my desire is to run my own hort related business (not necessarily in landscaping/maintenance). I know this is opinion based, but what would you do? Best Answer just needs to make the most logical sense. more

Resolved Question: How do i start my own lawn care business?

Hey there, I'm in the Fort Smith, Arkansas area. I am 18, and I would like to start my own business. I have chosen the landscaping/Lawn mowing business, I have no experience, I do like lawns, but i don't have a strong passion for them. I chose this business to generate cash flow. Today is my first day of research, I will take any & all advice I can get, it can be as little as a paragraph Or even 5 or 6 pages long, i will appreciate it, and soak it all up, I really need a lot of answers to questions I don't even have yet. Right off the top of my head, here are a few research questions that I have. You can skip this and give me what ever advice you have, but also I will need these answers some how. Thank you :) Questions: 1.What are the requirements by law, for me to do business as a lawn mower/or landscaper. Exactly what licenses, and paper work will I need to fill out etc. And any other requirement, to do this type of business that I will need. 2.What equipment will I need? About how much will it cost for everything? New/Used 3.What do most lawn Mowing companies/Landscapers even do? We don't have one so I wouldn't know. I know they cut the grass & blow the leaves, but i'm sure there is more to it. What is most common, and does it take extensive training? 4.In total, how much do you estimate it would cost me to get started? Im in Fort Smith area, and imagine i had 1 truck w/ 2-3 guys, and business is pretty good. Also, how much did it cost for you to get started? 5.This question is like part 2 to my first question, What all do I need to be legitimate? Insurance? would I need a commercial property? 6.And how hard is it to keep track of my taxes & stuff? & do we get charged alot of tax in this business? I am sure most of my questions are annoying, but they are the fresh ones off the top of my head, this is my first day of research. I really do appreciate everything you can do for me, please educate me as much as you can. It will not go to waste, & carma does exist:) Thank you all very much! God bless you! more

Club Car, a member of the Industrial Technologies sector of Ingersoll-Rand plc (NYSE: IR), is a leading manufacturer of golf cars, utility vehicles and a wide range of task-oriented vehicles serving multiple markets. David S. Moross, chairman and chief executive officer of Falconhead Capital, said: "We are proud to create the leading provider of cart-mounted GPS services to golf courses. The transactions that led to the formation of GPSI Holdings further demonstrate our ability to pursue and complete complex investment opportunities, and the new company is highly complementary to our investment strategy given our long ties to golf, and our expertise in leisure and lifestyle. By bringing together these three businesses, we have created a new company with the financial strength, operational efficiency, technology expertise, business model and geographic reach necessary to succeed over the long term. "We are fortunate that our friend Greg Norman is our partner in GPSI, given his immense stature in the golf world as a player and businessman. Mr. Norman said, "This transaction further promotes the consolidation of the industry which started with GPS Industries' acquisition of UpLink in late 2008 and now includes the merger with ProLink and ProView. This consolidation, together with other strategies, several of which specifically capitalize on the current economic landscape, will position GPSI to realize its full potential. It has been a pleasure to work closely with David and the Falconhead team, and we look forward to a very successful venture." Resolved Question: i need someone's advice on how to approach the situation?

please bare with me here, i am better at giving advice to other people than i am giving myself advice or taking my own advice. so i've been with this amazing gorgeous smart respectful old-fashioned man for 5 months. i know that i'm in love with him. he's everything a woman asks for and doesn't even pay attention to the fact that i am bipolar and can't always control my emotions. its easy to talk to him and i have even gotten advice from him that truly helped me. i know this man likes me a lot and cares for him, he buys me food, clothes... he would put roses and little notes on my car for me to find when i go for work, i'm telling you this man is absolutely amazing. i'm sure you're wondering what's the problem... WELLL.... ok. so we've been on the exact same page since we started, he liked me as much as i liked him, we talked for hours a day and continue too. i work 2 full-time jobs and he owns his own landscaping business so i must admit we have very hectic schedules. now to the question: i admitted that i loved him and he couldn't say it back... he said he liked me and that's something i already know so i ask if he's falling in love with me and his reason for not being able to fall in love with me cuz we don't spend enough time together so now i'm stuck. i'm trying SOOO hard to make time for him and actually i do but he's the one that just can't figure it out. i know most will say well if you love him then he's worth waiting for but its also about the desire to be loved back mutually and not be stuck in a relationship that's going no where. he's 10 years older than me and he's at that age where he wants to be married, i do to. how are we suppose to get to that point if he can't think about falling in love with me now? how long do i wait till its either he loves me or doesn't? i just don't know what to do? i know i shouldn't be making it this much of a deal but its heartbreaking to know that i'm in love but he can't even consider it. please only serious answers, not just "dump him" "wait for him" but real heartfelt advice is needed please and please add self-experience whether its worth waiting or not. just something useful for me.i'm not asking him to fall in love with my this second but just the fact that he can't even begin to think about it... it makes me feel like he's not 100% in the relationship. he can take months to do the actual falling in love but i just wanted to know that at least we're still on the same page and that his heart is open to it. if you're not open to love, you'll never fall in love. more

Resolved Question: Can someone help me write a letter to my customers informing them that my partnership has dissolved?

Okay.... I would really appreciate any help. It is my company. Get - R - Cut. And I partnered with someone who I thought was all grown up by now who was suppose to bring in landscape jobs and not just lawn work. we did a LLC. and changed the name to restore america group LLC. Informed all the customers at the start of the season of the partnership along with a long list of added services. I used to stay with stuff I can handle on my own. lawn cutting clean ups, roof repairs, aeration, dethatching, hedge tree trimming, tree removal. I brought in my ex partner because he has a history of being able to do brick work, landscape... pretty much anything you can think of. It didnt work out, he stole money out of the business account and used it at strip clubs and other various withdrawals that was not agreed upon. There wasnt a day that he came to work high or got high on the job... and you name the drug, if he got his hands on it, he would do it. even on the job in front of me. then he didnt bring in any work. Even my original customers would call me about landscape work. Id have my ex partner call them or have my customers talk to my ex partner. But he wouldnt get back with them. Theres a few customers that wanted stuff done that he never even told me about but he knew all about it. But did nothing to get the work. Believe me I would love to do it, but I just do not have the background to do the work properly and for a decent profit cost. The restore america company is dissolved and everything will be going back to Get - R - Cut. I am having a hard time keeping what I want to say out of this letter to my customers and finding the right wordage. Please any help!!!!! Thank you for your time more

Resolved Question: What do people think about this newspaper column and illegals?Illegal immigration costs us all dearly?

Illegal immigration costs us all dearly http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/140777 Linda Turley-Hansen, Commentary June 20, 2009 - 5:50PM Catastrophe, in the aftermath of the collapsed housing bubble, still pervades our East Valley while blame searches for a home. We already know that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are two of the baddies. Their downfall began in the 1990s, under a Democratic administration, when the two quasi-private mortgage companies, in cahoots with the feds, were pressured to finance underqualified buyers. Though there were some efforts to correct the problem, the failed policy continued to worsen under the Republicans. Even with that, the monster bubble could not have happened unless the market met demand. Think about it. The market responded with the help of huge numbers of low-paid, illegal workers. Their agents were not only industry lobbyists, but also those who insisted Americans wouldn’t do the work. They spread the mantra beyond our southern borders, and underprivileged Mexicans heeded the call. Now, our depressed neighborhoods speak to the results of that vast, cheap labor force. Did I mention illegal? Did I mention citizen workers were kicked to the curb? Several weeks ago, I wrote about East Valley residents who not only do dirty work, but they love it. They are regular, struggling folk, who tend to be the catch basins for the runoff from fabricated civil rights; they’re the designated losers when illegal players cut in line. Several responses from readers to that column, confirming the lie that “Americans won’t do dirty work,” deserve to be published. This, from Fran and John Anderson, longtime Mesa residents: The Andersons are parents of three sons. Sadly, the illegal avalanche penetrated their lives in an unimaginable way. “We appreciate your article on 'do the dirty work.’ We have felt this way for so many years. Especially when back in the early 1990s our oldest son wanted to do landscaping so badly. He loved being outside, didn’t mind the heat, enjoyed camping, hunting … all that good stuff. When he got out of the Army, he tried to get into landscaping … but the white people were the minority, so wouldn’t be hired. He ended up not doing anything and passed away shortly thereafter by his own hand. All he wanted was to do what he loved.” A veteran, lost in civilian life, gets caught in the crosshairs of an industry pirated by illegal workers — a double whammy. And, this from Rick Wagner, owner of Wagner Installations Inc: The Mesa resident was once a flooring installer who tried to compete. In early 2000, Wagner was asked by “every company he worked for to lower his pricing to match the illegals’ rate.” His answer was he couldn’t and still remain in business because “I report my taxes ... carry workmen’s comp(ensation) ... and I’m licensed.” Wagner said that soon, every one of those companies switched to an almost exclusive Mexican installation force. Determined to survive, he went on to start his own flooring business. He “beefed up his English speaking, citizen crew” and, today, while so many flounder, Wagner is flourishing because the construction industry is slumping; illegal immigrants can’t find work; homeowners are uncomfortable with illegals in their homes; immigration controversy over tax avoidance and the love of benefits; crackdowns on illegals and companies that hire them; the E-Verify program. And, finally, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. “Illegals do not want to stay in Arizona with him around,” Wagner said. “The above are reasons why all but two of the companies we worked for in the past have gone under,” Wagner said. “In contrast our company has grown ... beyond our expectations.” He warns, “Wake up Arizona and look at the costs associated with illegals in our system.” An entire culture has been built out of the promotion of illegal workers, a culture that assisted in inflating the bubble that has deeply harmed our economy. This day was bound to come, in which Americans are forced to reclaim their job market, bent and broken. Left alone, citizens themselves can do so — without fed intervention. Too bad the Andersons’ son isn’t here to help. — Linda Turley-Hansen is a syndicated columnist and former veteran Phoenix television news anchor who lives in the East Valley. Resolved Question: What is a good name for a landscaping/interlocking stone business?

Husband and I are going to start our own business. Landscaping, interlocking stones, decks, general repair and installs but we are having a really hard time coming up with a catchy name for it. We want something that is catchy and people can remember. I will choose the best answer before 6:00pm tonight!! more

Resolved Question: Why are my parents like this?

Hopefully I can describe their behavior as accurately as possible, but, frankly, I can't tell if it's me or if it's them that is the problem in this situation. So I've been back from college for 1 month now. I have been looking for a job with no success, and I've been doing housework for my parents the whole time, regardless of day or weather. I paint, I landscape, I overhaul the water layout by myself etc. I have not complained at all, but I have taken breaks when I work. My Dad want to kick me out. i can't figure out why, though. I'm working on few leads with my employment, but still no concrete job. His reasoning is that things are too easy for me. Free internet, free bed, use of a car, and the fact that I get up at 9am is killing him. He says I'm not mature, and that I should be trying to be. I've recently taken to buddhism on my own in an attempt to control myself, and my emotions. I had problems with depression all year at school, and dealt with coming out issues - all of which he does not know - despite consistently reputable grades. I don't want to start fights or get in trouble. I just want to peacefully go about my business, if work needs to be done I'll do it, but this is a problem. My father views my sudden change of heart as attitude, that I'm "too cool" to fight back with him, or to complain about my work as my brothers do. What are your perspectives? Is it my fault, his, or a combination of both? more

Resolved Question: HELP! My son 23 yr old son is dating a 34 yr old woman!!! Just found this out!?

I just found out that my 23 yr old son is seeing a 34 yr old woman. He's never been married and still lives at home with us while he's finishing up college and is self-employed enough to makes ends meet. They met at her business, a bank, when he was opening some new accounts for school. Then he started doing her landscaping and it just has gone from there. They've been seeing one another for more than a month! This woman is 34, with 2 ex-husbands and 2 kids. He says she is pretty, nice, sucessful and that they get along great! But I can't imagine that this will lead to anything but heart-break for my son. Plus, I want him to have a fresh life with someone closer to his own age. Am I wrong to feel this way? How can I make him see this isn't the best choice for him?He asked me if I want to meet her, I am considering this and perhaps I should not pass judgement until I do? more

Resolved Question: Gosh im havin some issues here 10 pts. for good advice!?

My b/f and i have been together for about 2 years. We have been through it all. We kinda sorta live together (he had his own place and roomie, and he wanted me to stay every night lol). We met at our work, and i initiated it. He treated me like a princess then he quit his job at comcast and started his own landscaping business which ended up kinda floppin there at the end. He went kinda broke, and i supported him a little like food and gas n little things like that that are a big help. His lease finally ran out and we moved to our parents places staying at his house and my house. We have been on the rocks so many times it makes it difficult. We have fough and left eachother at places because we get mad just a bunch of nonsense. We've been through so much we've lost eachother on the way in a sense. Neither one of us wants to give up on the other. We both need to fix things and we know this. We haven't had a fight in awhile until lastnight. it was kind of rough he acted like he was leavin and i was sobbing like a fool and he just couldn't leave and he told me he didnt want to. We both said we need to swipe the slate clean of our young immature past. This is more stressful than my finals. What should we do as a couple? He has gotten a lil cold and it makes me push harder which in return may be pushing him away. We're not always fighting though...he's like my bestfriend and lover. We play with eachother and have sooo much fun, and we still "you know." He would never be unfaithful and nor would i. Were at the age were marrige starts to come up, and i want to be with him forever, and he says he wants the same, but then we both have our doubts b/c of the fighting and disagreements. If we both want this do you think we can repair it? Is it too late? any advice would be appreciated. P.S.- im 20 years old and my b/f is 23. So this isn't some high school relationship this is way more serious than that. more

Resolved Question: Anyone selling or Growing Cactus?

How have you been successful with your Cactus business? I just started growing them. I have about 150, and 20 or so have sprouted. The next thing I need to do is market them, in Indiana...ouch I know. I decided to do this because, I used to live in Arizona, and when I moved here east of Chicago, I missed the desert landscape. I would really Have to hunt down cacti plants, and if I found them they would be in terrible condition. I figure I can just grow my own, since I know how to care for them, I could sell them. more

Voting Question: Can someone (preferably with experience) please give me some pointer on starting up a landscaping business?

I have always dreamed of being my own boss and figured what better way to do it than be doing something that I actually like. I am serious about this and realize I can't just quit my regular job as soon as I start this up but I am hoping to eventually make landscaping my full time job. If you anyone could give me any help on where/how to start and how much I need to realistically plan on spending and making to start off with I would really appreciate it. I also am wondering where and how to get workers. I am in the Chicago area. Thank you all for your help! more

Resolved Question: How can I not get mad or become prejudice?

when I have not medical insurance the mexican illegals get medical paid for they obtain an illegal I.D. draw welfare and I am paying for it and I don't get medical? Our landscaping trailer lock has been cut 3 times now in 2 years everything stripped from them so they can start their own illegal landscaping business....drink, drive, kill I lost a friend from this. I know they want better lives but that does not give them the right to leach and do the bad crap they bring with them... why don't they stop having so many kids having others pay for them...how do you NOT become prejudice? Sell drugs to each other down there kick out as many kids as you want use the drug money to pay for them or stop having so many kids. Let your own kind take the drugs down there, we don't want the problems you bring here. You don't want us being prejudice? more

Resolved Question: I started an LLC, now my county says I can't get a business license because of where I live? What can I do?

I filed for an LLC in Virginia, and I went to my county government office to get a business license and register a fictious name (DBA) and they said I couldn't get a business license because my property is zoned agricultural. My business consists of taking mowers and equipment I already own (or am being lended in many cases) to other people's property and doing work, it's a lawn and landscaping endeavor. Also, they say because the property does not have any public road frontage, I can't apply for a special use permit. This is where I live and where I keep the equipment, there must be some feasible way I can do a legitimate business. I can't afford commercial space, I don't suppose I can use a P.O. Box, how can I get a business license? more

Resolved Question: Can anyone offer advise on what I would need to set up a landscaping business?

I currently have a good job with good pay but I'm looking for something more that I would enjoy doing. I am 26, have a college degree, and I'm willing to work hard for what I want. I love yard work and being outside and have started thinking about opening a landscaping company in the Chicago suburbs. I am in the very preliminary stages of even thinking about it and would just like some advice on what the next steps are. I can't imagine that start up costs are as high as with other businesses. It has always been a dream of mine to own my own company. My wife and I have our first baby on the way and I can't really afford to take huge chances but it doesn't change my desire to own my own company doing something I really enjoy.I'm sorry....yes maintenance. Cutting, edging, trim bushes, mulch, sodding, etc. Eventually I would like to get into like putting in patios and landscape design but for the time being I would like to start with maintenance. more

Voting Question: What career path should a graduate of history do?

I'm graduating with a ba in history this May. What should I do with my life? I'm not a real ambitious person (at least in the way its normally referred to). I don't want to get "ahead" in life. I want to live adequately. I definitely do want to go to grad school, but beyond that, who knows. 1.) I could do the licensing program and become a high school social studies teacher. This would cost about 12 grand over two years. Pros, I like talking about history and to students (I substitute teach now), Evenings, Weekends, Summers off, I can go to concerts, watch football and baseball, etc. 2.) I could work in a museum. Cons- Have to work summers and possibly weekends, might be a competitive gig to get. 3.) Try to get a doctoral degree, teach at university level. Cons- A whole lot of intense academic work, will take a very long time 4.) If I had a dream job it would be as a writer-Cons, probably somewhat unrealistic 5.) Journalist- State of journalism a bit precarious currently 6. I might want to drop out of society, and travel the country watching bands 7.) I've thought about bartending 8.) I would like to own my own bar, or restaurant, or deli, or landscaping business 9.) I like outdoor, physical labor 10. Sometimes I just think, fuck it, I'll be a plumber 11. I have no interest in being a corporate whore and hate attempting to sell people shit they don't want or need 12. I have an interest in the natural word 13. If I won the lottery, I'd be sure to use it to start my own business, say a bar, or nursery, or magazine, or landscaping business 14. I keep coming back to teaching high school, I'm sure I'd enjoy it, its worthwhile, its practical, I'm just not sure Anyway, I was hoping someone might give me some direction, or an idea I haven't thought about, or a personal story. Thanks a billion! more

Resolved Question: where in North Carolina or Virginia is a great place to live?

My husband and I really wanna get out of New York and move to either North Carolina or Virginia. We were planning on visiting both states in a few weeks but I'd like to have a direction first of where I'm going. We want to rent or buy a house that is in the country and not in the city so what areas would be appropriate for that?? My husband has his own landscaping business and I'm a dog trainer so we are trying to think of a good place to start for both our careers. Please if anyone has any suggestions or lives down there and already knows the answer to my question, let me know! Thank you!! more

Resolved Question: HOA wants us to buy a new roof?

My husband and I bought our first house a little over a month ago. It is a two bedroom townhouse. According to the paperwork we signed at closing and the HOA handbook, ALL exterior maintenance including roof, landscaping, snow removal, and siding, is to be covered by the home owners association. We didn't buy a house above our means. Actually, we're trying to live below our means. We cut up our credit card about 7 months ago and we've been paying it off. Both cars are paid off. I'm in college and my husband is in grad school, so our student loans are in differment (sp?) now. We got the sellers to agree to pay the first six months' HOA fees ($90/month). Well, we went to the semi-annual HOA meeting about a week ago and of the 8 people that actually showed up, my husband and I and one other person were the only people who actually live in the neighborhood. The rest of them are "scum lords" who own like 10 houses each and rent them out (and don't take good care of them at that). They live in expensive neighborhoods, own businesses, drive nice cars, etc. I'm sure to them, $1,500 is pocket change. But the original neighborhood investor said, "Well, we need new roofs on all units. The HOA doesn't have the finances for that right now, so I say we should sent out a letter to everyone saying they all owe $1,500 in six months." I mentioned that the only reason we bought a townhouse was b/c ALL exterior maintenance was supposed to be covered. The man we bought it from is president of the HOA and he didn't mention the roof to us. He said it would be covered. Well, he just looked at the floor and started fidgeting (feeling guilty???). I said, "To you guys, $1,500 may be nothing, but we just shelled out all this money for our house and we can not come up with that amount in 6 months. We need more time than that!" And the investor looked at me, got all smart-mouthed and said, "Well then we'll just put a lein on your property. Welcome to homeownership." I was like... what a jerk. Can they really make us pay that? Everything we signed when we bought the house said the $90/month HOA fees cover ALL of that. Can they make us pay extra?I guess I'll just take in all our paperwork to my business law professor tomorrow. Thanks. That's what I was afraid if...=(Ranger, telling people what they "should have" done doesn't make the situation any easier.6 months though? Shouldn't they give people longer than that to come up with that money? Next year when we do our taxes is when we get our $8,000 first time home buyer tax rebate. I told them we could do it then. more

Resolved Question: Where can I get an Associates Degree in Horticulture?

I live in Whiting, IN near Chicago. I want to start my own Landscaping business. And I am looking to learn more about it. I was thinking about getting a degree so I have the appropriate education to do it. Are there maybe just classes to take somewhere rather then 2 years. But I am willing to get an Associates. Also I wanted an inexpensive school, I wanted to go to Ivy Tech but they don't offer that field I want to go into. I just don't want to go into something I don't have my heart in it just because they offer it. Any replies are appreciated. Thanks!!! more

Resolved Question: What sorts of businesses do Yahoo Republicans own?

This is what I think they own: 1. Landscaping companies. 2. Pie in the sky businesses that promote a product that doesn't exist or a skill no one will dare trust or pay them for. 3. A franchise started with daddy's money that they are realizing is a financial nightmare. 4. Some computer repair business that has been obliterated by Geek Squad. I looked on Facebook and saw a classmate of mine worked for a law office. He recently graduated. Then I looked closer and realized the name was his last name and his girlfriend's last name. I would never hire that dude to be my lawyer, and I doubt anyone else would. You own a business? What a joke. So do I. I sell London Bridge. What do you do? more

Voting Question: Sure he's a loser, but I want to get into his twisted mind?

I have been talking to this guy on the phone a few months. We never went out and are taking things slow. This set up is okay for both of us now. When we talk it's for 2-3 hours most of the time but we don't talk everyday. I try to let him call me but if I do contact him it's a text or voicemail here and there. He is a busy guy, he owns a landscaping business and keeps long hours. When the season ends, he takes time off for hobbies and relaxing. All of this was explained to me before we started talking, I met him through a mutual friend we have. He has been forthright about that fact that he expects honesty from anyone and to be upfront. I have done this with him and I thought he did the same. We have tried to set up 3 times to get together, but there always seems to be a glitch with his schedule....he is traveling here, hunting etc. This man never promised me anything but insisted he'd "love to take me out." I have been easy going about his schedule but now it's getting old. A few "hot topics" have arose between us and I am now questioning this guy's intentions & my own intentions. I will give as specific details as I can, sorry but this will be a little long.... 1) Prior to going on a vacation, he spoke to someone who knows me through my friend. Well, this person knows nothing about me personally or my life. He never bothered to call me to ask me directly about these allegations. He decided to cut me off and never call me again. My friend told me about this and I called him a few times and told him we needed to clear the air. He blew me off. Finally, I left him a rather mean voicemail telling him I was hurt that he never called me, he was an a------ for judging me, & a coward for avoiding my calls. Well, as soon as he heard the message he called me and we had a big fight. I apologized for leaving a nasty message and he acknowledged that he should have called me to ask clarifications on his concerns. Bear in mind, he never apologized for his actions in cutting me off. We temporarily ironed things out. 2) My friend was furious over how he treated me and gave me some info. on his past. She claims she never told me before because she didn't want to interfere and she knew how much I liked him. She claimed that he was arrested for driving without a license, resisting arrest, he has done drugs and still does, has slept with escorts and owes money in taxes on his business. Needless to say, I was flabbergasted and depressed over my lack of judgement. I was also shocked and mad at her that she didn't tell me prior to this whole escapade. She swore me to secrecy and not to tell him that she told me. I kept my promise but I performed internet searches and found out he had an arrest. a) I called him and left a message telling him he was a great actor and that he wasn't the person I thought. I told him that he didn't have to bother calling me ever again. He did call and wanted to know what the message was about. I confronted him about what I could prove..the arrests. At first he denied it then I started giving specific dates, his name, DOB etc. He became defensive and rattled off what happened, that he was young and it didn't happen again, BLAH, BLAH. Then, he was asked why I was out to hurt him! I stood my ground and told him that he lied to me! I never lied to him, he judged me, I didn't judge him, he elected to never contact me again and I felt I deserved answers. He stated that he "never promised me anything." c) Once we had almost everything out in the air, he kept asking me what I thought.....if I wanted to talk to him anymore..I was silent and I told him that I really didn't want to talk to him. I said I was unsure and felt let down. I also told him that I felt like he led me on on things (postponing get togethers, calling whenever he felt like it...3 week w/out a call...), lying...) d) This is what he said, "Well, after this conversation, I'd say screw you if it was somebody else but I'm not going to do that. I think you're a nice girl, we have good conversations and fun on the phone. I'd love to take you out. I am just slow with some things. This whole setup is new to me (meaning meeting me through a mutual friend)" I said to him, after ALL of this, you still "like me" and feel like this...and he said "yes." 3) Okay, I know he is a bonafide loser, liar, trouble maker and some other things. This is my problem...I want to understand why this guy feels the need to hold onto me. He obviously doesn't care about me, my feelings, passing judgement on me. He never apologized for his actions. I know that it shouldn't matter to me what he is thinking but it does. a) This idiot has really let me down. He is toxic and not worth giving the time of day. Is there a guy out there who can give me some input on this douche? Thank you. more
