Flaherty aims to 'brand' Canada business-friendly

The Federal government's aim to cut business tax rates to a combined 25% forms part of its plan to "brand" Canada as a low-cost business destination for the international community, Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said Monday.

"We want to get that business tax rate down to 15% federally by 2012; we're on track to do that, we're committed to do that. We're asking the provinces to get to 10% by 2012," Mr. Flaherty said in an address to the Economic Club of Toronto. He said Alberta and British Columbia had already achieved this, while other provinces were on track, but said Ontario needed to jump on board. He said he would discuss the issue with the provinces when they come together in a few weeks.

Lower business tax rates would not only be beneficial for domestic businesses, but form part of the government's plan to attract more overseas investment in the country. more

Business Government Grant Start Up Questions asked

Open Question: If you have a business that donates 50% of the profits to charity how should the company be set up?

I am starting a business where 50% of the gross revenues will be donated to a charity. The remaining revenues will be used for operational costs such as marketing and salaries. This is how I will be earning a living as well. I am not sure if this would be classified as a non-profit or if there is another classification I would need to use. I would not be looking for any government grants or loans, I am just wondering how I should set the company up for tax purposes. Is there a special classification for this type of company? As I said the biggest hurdle is that I will be using a portion of the revenues as income. more

Resolved Question: In the USA, could this form of socialism work?

Bottom Line Paragraph: Everybody will be required or otherwise granted work and everybody will get paid the same base wage to start off, and healthcare and university and speciality schools in all professions, including medical training, would be FREE (paid for if you take the classes for credit). (These would be rights set in stone along with the Bill of Rights in this BOTTOM LINE PARAGRAPH. These rights are enumerated.)!!!!! NEVER TO CHANGE BUT outside the scope of the bottom line paragraph, you have THIS: 1) All jobs will still be appraised by their free market value, so those working in professions that would otherwise earn above the base wage would obtain shares of the public money equal to the excess of the base over the market value of their job, but capped at the amount that would not enable for the Bottom Line Paragraph to hold true. (There must be enough to pay the base wage to all.) 2) Any sole proprietor, manager, or business owner would document what they would normally earn every 2 weeks and receive a public share of money close to that amount, unless it exceeds that cap of funds necessary to guarantee the enumerated rights above in the "Bottom Line Pagragraph". 3) Unions in all professions including teachers, doctors, attorneys, civil servants, accountants, any viable profession would have a preferred stock in the public money before distributions of salaries. Similar to high income earners. They would get secondary priority over high income earners and employers, but capped at the amount needed to pay base wages to all. 4) There would of course be a reserve of public money for all services required of a Government both to meet the needs of the "bottom line" and to provide any other basic government services that cannot be omitted to sustain soverignty. This would also be capped at the amount of the Bottom Line Paragraph. 5) There will be and unfortunately there will have to be humane reasonable actions taken against those who are not working when required to work, which could include confinement without pain and suffering (like white-collar jail), salary cuts, or seized possessions....there wouldn't be a way around this, BUTTTTT.... -------a. Every job will have sick days and vacations days -------b. On top of this, every night you leave work you will role dice, If you land a 12, your lack of work will be enforced the most heavily the subsequent day. If you role a 4 or less, your lack of working will hardly be enforced. You get some randomness from this. -------c. Very Important: In higher education and university and career studies, your grades and passing of examinations will be your measurement of work...in place of a job. So you see, everybody would have incentive to work, and if the economy went bad the working people at the bottom would be protected, but they would also to an extent be required to contribute. Free Loaders would face reasonable consequences. Couldn't this work in America or perhaps a smaller democratic country like in Europe?UNDER THIS SYSTEM: Everybody would go to work. Nobody would sit home. If you had no job, the Government would put you to work somewhere, or put you into training based on your educational capabilities. You will be utilized, you will contribute. It's not fascism because it WILL be equal opportunity to choose your work. But if you have no options left, you are re-assigned to a job.Employers can fire, and you would be re-assigned, but you would be free to search for a better job. While searching for a better job, you can take advantage of the days you roll the dice and get below a 4, since those days would be held against you less if you underperformedEdit: Let me make myself clear. You would have ABSOLUTE control over freedom. In the worst case scenario, you would be re-assigned to a job when otherwise you'd be unemployed. If you did what was asked on that job, you'd be alrightIf you didn't like your re-assigned job, you could a. Petition for a new re-assignment or b. Apply for better jobs yourself more

Resolved Question: Loans or Grants for starting a home renovation business?

Hi, I'm wondering if there are any government grants, or loans available to people with less than great credit. I'd prefer the grant of course, even if it's something I'd have to pay back, but loan info would be appreciated too. I know every phase of home construction from the ground up to the roof, and I'd really like to start up my own business where I buy houses, renovate, and sell them. I know I'd be successful if I could just find a means to get started, does anyone know of any good way to get started? Thanks more

Resolved Question: Can you believe that as of Sunday, ACORN is refunded by the Federal Government? The defunding was only 'til?

the end of this month. Radical Left-Wing Group ACORN To, AGAIN, Receive MILLIONS of Taxpayer Dollars Congressional Cut-Off of ACORN Funding a Sham: Tell Congress to Cut Their Funds PERMANENTLY! Dear Friend, You probably heard that, as a result of the overwhelming scandals that the radical left-wing group "ACORN" is involved in, and after a HUGE public outcry, Congress recently voted to de-fundthem. WE WERE LIED TO! Congress only voted to de-fund ACORN for ONE MONTH -- which means we have to fight hard AGAIN to FORCE them to defund this far-left group... PERMANENTLY! TELL CONGRESS TO DEFUND THE RADICAL LEFTIST GROUP "ACORN" PERMANENTLY: SEND YOUR FAXES NOW! "ACORN" -- the "Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now" -- is a far-left group of "community organizers" that has not only worked extra hard to support liberal causes and get Barack Hussein Obama elected -- they broke numerous laws in the process. And YOUR taxpayer dollars helped them to do it! During the last two election cycles, ACORN has been under investigation for election fraud and related offenses in nearly 20 states, for crimes ranging from false voter registrations and illegal voting, to identity theft and records tampering, to using felons as registration workers. And, recently, a private undercover "sting" operation showed ACORN employees were willing to help human sex slave traffickers to run their illegal "businesses" (including child prostitution) -- and how to dodge having to pay taxes, on top of it! According to the Employment Policies Institute, ACORN is a non-profit (but not federally tax-exempt) organization at the center of a vast web of groups run by long-time anti-corporate activist Wade Rathke and a handful of his closest allies. It operates in at least 38 states, as well as in Canada, Mexico, and Peru, and is integral in a fight to prevent Foreign Direct Investment in India. Rathke said ACORN plans to continue its growth by adding offices in 100 new cities over the next five years, after seeing 100 percent growth in offices between 2003 and 2004. ACORN claims 200,000 member families (though member dues only account for eight percent of the organization's massive budget), and represents approximately 80,000 union members. It operates "social justice" radio stations, community television groups, and a magazine. It runs home mortgage and tax counseling centers, a voter-mobilization organization, left-wing schools, a furniture company, a consulting firm, and a law/lobbying firm. It's funded by YOU AND ME -- to the tune of MILLIONS OF TAXPAYER DOLLARS YEARLY! In fact, ACORN has received more than $53 million in direct taxpayer funding since 1994, and countless millions more through grants from financial institutions throughout the country. And, bills passed this year could give ACORN access to as much as $10 billion more. The American people were so upset with the extent of ACORN's crimin al activities that we demanded that Congress de-fund this radical leftist group. Last month, Congress was forced to do so -- but they TRICKED us, and now ACORN is set to start getting taxpayer funding again, starting on November 1st! And that means WE have to take action NOW! TELL CONGRESS TO DEFUND THE RADICAL LEFTIST GROUP "ACORN" PERMANENTLY: SEND YOUR FAXES NOW! Shortly after five videos aired on national television, showing ACORN staffers advising people how to falsify tax forms and seek illegal benefits for young girls from El Salvador, to be illegally imported for a child prostitute ring, the Senate voted 83-7 and the House of Representatives voted 345-75 to cut off all funds to ACORN. The Census Bureau, which was set to let ACORN help them with the upcoming national count (which determines distribution of Congressional seats!), cut ties with the group last month. The IRS says it will no longer associate with ACORN through its tax assistance program either. So we're all good, right? No more taxpayer dollars for ACORN -- right? Hooray! NOT SO FAST. Last week, Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-MN) revealed that federal funding will again start flowing to ACORN -- at midnight, Halloween night. TRICK OR TREAT! As Representative Bachmann pointed out, "when the clock hits midnight on Halloween night, the spigot of federal tax money will open wide open again... and they'll be back in the money." That's OUR money they'll be scooping up into their big plastic pumpkins -- to continue funding their radical far-left agenda! CONGRESS WILL GET AWAY WITH THIS TRAVESTY -- unless we take action, expose what they've done, and FORCE them to do the RIGHT thing! So, we've set up our website to enable you to send "Blast Faxes" to every single U.S. Congressman and Senator AT ONCE, demanding that they DEFUND this leftist "community organizer" group permanently! For about what it would cost you in time and telephone charges, you can send Blast Faxes to Democrats, Republicans, Independents -- EVERYONE in the U.S. Congre more

Resolved Question: Why are Americans seeming to want a socialist state?

We were not founded on this principle at all, yet many people have started clamoring for redistributing wealth and demonizing those who have money. America was founded and has stood as a beacon of hope and opportunity. Every legal citizen has the same opportunities to succeed-granted some have it easier than others, but the opportunity is there. Our constitution does not grant everyone the same life style, just the freedom to pursue happiness. Why is it wrong to have? Why should those who have be forced to give to those who don't? Should they give-my opinion is yes. Should they be forced-absolutely not. Who decides who gives how much? Who really thinks our government can run anything in a fiscally responsibly manner? They can't even do what they are Constitutionally obligated to do which is maintain a proper armed force and stay the crap out of the people's business as much as possible. The more laws you have the fewer freedoms you have. more

Resolved Question: Can we stop government expansion?

I am sick and tired of socialists, I won't call them liberals, I call them socialists. Who demand the government handle everything. The private sectors that failed, always have due to government insight/regulation. Health Care wasn't a free market due to medicare/medicaid Medicare - Free for Elderly Medicaid - Free for the Poor Failed Banking Industry was due to the CRA http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Community_Reinvestment_Act It targeted low-moderate income neighborhoods...Kind of sounds like everyone but upper class. Read it before you type through your emotions. Social Security Elderly people past 65 still work and can't live only off the checks. Otherwise everyone past 65 would be retired. Government Housing Has the highest crime rates in America. I'd love to see an episode of cops where they run through a suburb, probably won't happen. Government programs fail, our fore fathers designed us to have small government, can we stop abusing what we take for granted? Let the private sector run it's self since the people choose what they want, just like how the people choose what private companies to start. 50% of the GNP comes from small business. -Fortune Magazine.Wake up Americans, THE GOVERNMENT CAN NOT MAKE WEALTH, ONLY GENERATE INCOME THROUGH TAXATION. That's how socialism works is when everyone gets the same treatment through taxation. Like health care, housing, food, etc.. I am not talking about protection like military, it's different. The preamble says "Provide for the common defense" meaning provide it do it. "promote the general welfare" it isn't promotional when you're being forced in taxes to pay for it, it becomes enforcement, if you refuse you go to jail.Charley: Wow you're so uneducated I might slap Karl Marx, someone you don't even know probably. Socialism is the redistribution of wealth for equal treatment. If everyone is being taxed to pay for these things. Guess what buddy, that's socialism. Stop making up your own definitions.Well thank god we got the right to bare arms, I got a stock pile so when the country becomes socialist officially, I'll practice that right and fight an anarchy. Just like the fore fathers fighting big brother king government. Except this time it be between our own country.scammaj12: Health care reform is the expansion of government regulation, that's what liberals are doing right now. What if they decided to cut medicare/medicaid government ran programs and said here run the private sector. They are socialists for wanting government ran programs with the "public option" which is really a "public monopoly" more

Voting Question: Whiche agencies handle the business grants for minorities and which ones give grants to the disabled?

I am frustrated: I tried to google this and all I ;came up with was sites that want to charge you---which I think is a scam. A friend of mine is disabled and of minority and she was pretty good so far at starting up a business. However, the financial hardship is there and so she asked me if I could research this after I mentioned grants to her. The problem is that the SBA doesn't give grants to small businesses, and trying to find out where she can apply for a grant is like trying to find a needle in the haystack. I know for fact that government programs do not charge to get access to their grants, but appearantly some scammers try to do just that. So I rather have the name of the approbiate agencies and I'll bring her case directly there. Anyone out there knowledgable enough to tell me where I can obtain grants for her-all I need is the proper name of the agency/istitution where an application can be submitted. Thank you in advance!! more
