UBM Appoints Sanjeev Khaira to its Indian Publishing and Online

In his new role, Sanjeev Khaira will lead UBM's efforts to build a leading position for UBM in India's rapidly growing business-to-business media market, a market with enormous growth potential. The role is complementary to UBM's existing successful and fast-growing businesses in India - UBM India's exhibition business, CMPMedica's pharmaceutical and medical media business and PR Newswire's (news distribution) newly-established Mumbai operations.

Sanjeev Khaira is currently Publishing Director of Property Week and the Building Services Portfolio, one of UBM's most significant UK-based media businesses. He will transfer to UBM India's Head Office in Mumbai to take up his new role from 1 September 2008.

Sanjeev Khaira will report to CMP Asia, UBM's Hong Kong-based subsidiary. more

Sangamo's Q2 loss widens East Bay Business Times

Sangamo BioSciences Inc.'s second-quarter losses widened to $7.4 million from $5.2 million the prior year, the company reported Wednesday.

The Richmond company brought in $2.8 million for the quarter, mainly from collaboration agreements with Dow AgroSciences and Sigma-Aldrich Corp.

In the prior-year quarter Sangamo (NASDAQ: SGMO) generated $2.6 million of revenue.

R&D expenses were $8.3 million for the second quarter of 2008, compared to $6.3 million the previous year. The company said the additional costs were used to advance Sangamo's clinical development programs in diabetic neuropathy and for its pre-IND programs to develop ZFP Therapeutics for the treatment of HIV/AIDS and glioblastoma.

General and administrative expenses were $2.5 million for the second quarter of 2008, up from $2.1 million the previous year. more

Hewitt Names Co-Presidents of Consulting Business

The Consulting business is in good health, and the new leadership is being asked to take us to an even higher level of performance," said Russ Fradin, Hewitt's chairman and chief executive officer.

Eric Fiedler (41) currently leads Hewitt's Asia Pacific Consulting business and Yvan Legris (45) heads Hewitt's UK Consulting and Benefits Outsourcing businesses. As co-presidents, both will report directly to Mr. Fradin.

As part of this leadership transition, Perry Brandorff, current global president of consulting, and Roger Parkin, current European consulting leader, are leaving Hewitt. During his 26-year tenure, Mr. Brandorff has played a pivotal role establishing Hewitt as a global leader in consulting, including building the company's integrated consulting segment three years ago. more

Man who set fire to competitor’s business headed to prison

A Caledonia man was sentenced to more than seven years in prison for hiring men to set fire to a competitor's Rockford business, the U.S. Department of Justice announced today.

U.S. District Judge Philip G. Reinhard sentenced Jeff Bartlett, 43, of Caledonia to 90 months in federal prison after being found guilty of committing arson in July 2000. Authorities said the incident was tied to Bartlett's feud with a family member who had opened a competing business.

Bartlett will not be eligible for parole.

According to a news release from the Department of Justice, Bartlett admitted in April to his role eight years ago in hiring the men who lit an incendiary device and threw it into a first-floor, rear window of the business at 4606 E. State St. It caused $60,000 damage. more
