DATA PREVIEW: German Mar Ifo Business Sentiment Seen Easing

FRANKFURT (Dow Jones)--German business sentiment is expected to have edged down in March after unexpected rises during the early months of the year, as the euro strengthens. The Ifo business confidence survey index, due 0900 GMT Wednesday, is forecast to have fallen to 103.4, reversing February's surprise gain to 104.1, according to a Dow Jones Newswires poll of 11 economists. "We see the index moderately down, despite resilience in recent months, due to an even stronger euro in March as well as continued tension in commodity prices and additional signs of a slowdown in the U.S.," Gilles Moec, economist at Bank of America in London said. Earlier in March, the euro hit an all-time high against the dollar of close to 1.60. The Ifo index measuring current business conditions is also expected to inch down to 109.5 from 110.3 in February, while business expectations should ease to 97.7, from 98.2 in February, according to the poll. more

Residents, businesses affected by poor conditions of road

SHREVE -- Rod Leathers and his co-workers make jokes about roller coasters as they look outside at the potholes near the Shreve Dari-Bar, watching drivers hopelessly swerve to miss them.

"We sit out here and watch it swallow cars," said Leathers, who owns the Dari-Bar and is president of the Shreve Business Association.

The potholes are a growing concern among motorists, village officials and businesses that rely on their regular pool of customers. Leathers said the customers are still coming, but not without difficulty.

Mayor Keith Rickett said he has received multiple complaint calls about the roads. He said he's been told repairs will be made before July 31, which means not before the annual Spring Migration Sensation (April 5) and the Memorial Day parade. more

Burley goes online with video promos

Judging by the arrival of Pacific Ethanol, Dot Foods and Dutchmen, it appears Burley has been popping up on businesses' radar across the country recently. But that doesn't mean the city is satisfied. With City Council approval paving the way, Burley will now appear on Mayors.tv - a Web site that hosts promotional videos for cities. The city of Boise, for example, has 11 videos emphasizing a range of strengths - everything from economic development to parks and recreation to the hallowed 2007 Fiesta Bowl football game."It's more of an economic development tool than anything," said Mark Mitton, Burley's city administrator.Burley will probably feature about six videos aimed at attracting even more businesses, he said.Considering all the great things Mini-Cassia has to offer - outdoor recreation, affordable living, a robust economy - and how little most people in other parts of the country know about the area, a few scenes of Mayor Jon Anderson talking up Burley's infrastructure or the VikingMan triathlon might be a good idea, officials said.Posting videos costs the city nothing. more

Business pessimism continues to grow

A new survey shows that pessimism about the general business situation in New Zealand continues to grow.

Auckland Chamber of Commerce says 64% of the thousand small to medium sized businesses surveyed think the business situation will deteriorate over the next six months.

That is nearly twice as many than in December and three times more than a year ago.

The survey also found businesses expect significantly less demand from customers here, and that interest rates will rise over the next year.

However, Auckland Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Michael Barnett says rather than sitting back and saying these are tough times, there are things businesses can do to help themselves.

Barnett says businesses need to invest in people and good marketing. more

Resolved Question: I am worrying about grad school costs. Which program would you choose?

I was accepted into two graduate programs for International Business. One is the MBA program for Thunderbird (arizona) and the other is University of Maryland for a MIM (Master of International Mgmt). Both are basically business degrees, but I opting to do the programs ONLINE so I can stay with my job while I do them. I have been so stressed out over which program to choose. Thunderbird has an extremely good reputation, one of the best for international MBA, however is costs $75,000 for the program. The U of Maryland costs $18,000. I know thunderbird has a better reputation, but I am not sure bcs. I really dont know what I want to do when I graduate and I get really scared thinking about that humongous debt I will have. It really scared me, especially bcs. I am not sure what I will be doing afterwards and if I will be making alot of money. I am 31 years old, just dont know if I wnat to risk all that money. Any ideas? more

Resolved Question: What concentration in a MBA would suit me best if I want to travel a lot?

Hi, I have a BA in ANthropology, I'm italian, I've travelled extensively around the World and I've studied one year in Finland and one summer semester in the USA. I wanna take a MBA and I wanna find afterwards a job that allows me to travel a lot! What concentration would you suggest me? Resolved Question: I'm thinking about applying to the International University of Japan for an MBA, good idea?

I want to work in Japan upon graduation, so I think this would be a great way to do that. Also the school seems to be very international, attracting students from all over the world and providing a curriculum with a global focus. The school seems comparable to Thunderbird or other internationally focused business schools. My biggest concern is if I ever leave Japan, will having an MBA from this school cause problems? It seems that if a school is accredited by certain groups, it doesn't matter. Example, London Business School. If I went there I know I wouldn't have a problem. Any information about the school, career opportunities, recognition, etc. would be helpful. more

Resolved Question: Is Thunderbird a good place to get my MBA if I'm interested in working internationally, most likely at I-bank?

They seem to have an excellent reputation in regards to international business, but I would like to get opinions about the school and the program beyond what is listed in rankings, etc. I plan on working in corporate finance for an investment bank, internationally and want to know if this school will give me the opportunities to do so. Any knowledge that can be passed on about the school, such as admissions, career, etc. beyond what is on their website, U.S. News, etc. would be great. more
