BIR uncovers more than 80000 unregistered businesses in MM

The Bureau of Internal Revenue has unearthed more than 80,000 unregistered business establishments in Metro Manila after comparing the agency's database with that of local government units, Internal Revenue Commissioner Lilian Hefti reported Monday.

Hefti said the agency's LGU revenue assistance project showed that 82,000 business establishments registered with local governments in Metro Manila is not registered with the government's major tax revenue collecting agency.

The project, according to Hefti, matches records of the LGUs with the database of the BIR.

"The function of the LGU revenue assistance project is to match registered taxpayers in the records of LGUs with BIR records and compare reported sales to LGUs by the taxpayers with taxpayers' reported sales to BIR," she added. more

Business link with Hong Kong

South East businesses have received a live market report from Hong Kong courtesy of the Limestone Coast on Display program.

Businesses involved in the program took time out on Tuesday afternoon to gather at Telstra Country Wide's Mount Gambier office to engage in a video link with the Austrade office in Hong Kong.

The exercise was part of the Limestone Coast on Display program, which itself is a portion of the Women Working @ Winning program initiated by the Limestone Coast Area Consultative Committee.

"It was pretty ground breaking really," project coordinator Kate Facey said.

"The businesses received a market briefing from an Austrade representative in Hong Kong."

The program will continue to expand, with businesses soon to be chosen for a trip to Adelaide, where their businesses will be showcased in Rundle Mall, as well as networking opportunities set up to help expansion outside of the Limestone Coast. more

Uranium company posts $38.9m profit

The company which owns and operates the Ranger Uranium Mine near Kakadu National Park has recorded a $38.9 million profit in the past six months.

The figure is $33 million more than for the same period last year.

In an announcement to the Australian Stock Exchange, Energy Resources of Australia says the average price of uranium for the first half of this year was just under $US36 a pound, compared to $US16.90 in June last year.

The Darwin-based company says sales rose by 46 per cent to $167.4 million, even though production of uranium oxide fell by 6 per cent.

The company produces a tenth of the world's uranium and is expanding its operations at the Ranger Mine.

Longtime merchants hold critical key to black history

In 2002, about 12 percent of the businesses in Montgomery County were black-owned, compared to nearly 16 percent statewide, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s latest statistics on minority-owned businesses. Jerome Love, vice president of the African American Chamber of Commerce of Montgomery County, said it was not tougher or easier for black men and women to run their own businesses today than it was 30 years ago, just ‘‘different."

‘‘We’ve still got some work left to do, but it goes in both directions," said Love, the CEO of Germantown-based AdCast Inc. ‘‘The owners of minority firms, they have to be willing to reach out to the county."

Silver Spring resident Lisa Hoston, a black business owner of Concierge Transportation Services in Silver Spring for the last three years, said it is now less of an issue of minorities opening businesses, and more about being an entrepreneur in a difficult economy. more

Where did you go, Mom and Pop?

This is the way I see it: since each mom-and-pop businesses is unique, and in Cape May County many of them make the majority of their profits in summer, competing with other businesses can cause considerable economical strain.

Franchised businesses, on the other hand, have gimmicks and built-in advertising. If a consumer is unsure if she can get paper clips and milk at the Mom and Pop store on the corner, she probably won't chance it. Young people don't put too much thought into where our food comes from. When we're hungry we think of the most efficient way to get food. How many McDonald's and Wawas can you name within a five mile radius of your house? Should we care? Should we still invest in Mom and Pop? Of course. You see, although we value efficiency, convenience and immediate gratification, Mom and Pop endorses notions like friendship, conscientiousness and longevity. more

Internet Business Statistics Questions asked

Voting Question: Where can i find statistics for online videos?

Hi everyone, I've recently set up my own video production company and i'm in the process of having my website designed. The company will be specialising in online web videos for business advertisement. Im looking for some reliable statistics for the increase and demand for online videos. Ive found some for the U.S: '123 million Americans will view online video at lest once month in 2007' 'Almost 75% of US internet users watched an average of three hours of online video during the month' etc etc These kind of stats are great however my company is in england and I could really do with some statistics that are more relevant to my clients. Any links or info would be very much appreciated more

Resolved Question: Why Don't They Tell You How To Do Things In Computer Programs?

There are so many computer programs where you look in help and the instructions assume you already know a lot you might not. The internet does the same thing. Why? Why can't these things have step by step instructions. Why do all these computer programs assume the user knows everything? It's like the computer industry just doesn't care. Why haven't competitors emerged that do care? Why aren't market forces forcing them to actually give a damn about their customers? All I was trying to do was find out how to run ANOVA on a statistics program. Its been 15 minutes already. I checked help and it's no help. I look online and I still can't find anything. It's the PASW program BTW. Why isn't some smart person out there putting these idiots out of business? But there are even cases where it is hard because it is too wordy. Or for example I try searching help on the stats program and it gives me a bunch of equations for figuring out statistics and I have to look through everything forever just to find the part where they tell you what buttons to click. I don't care how it works, I really just want to know what to click. These people don't consider that people are in a hurry. People have things to do and want to know these things as fast as possible. Extra information not needed.Another thing is where clicking something on the program automatically minimizes "help". Why? I doubt it would cost more to design a program where they can both be up at once. Its almost like they went out of their way to make it more difficult. more

Resolved Question: Which major would be a better option?

I'm only a sophmore in high school now, but i've been thinking a lot about my future--specifically my major in college. I have narrowed it down into a few decisions: Archiecture Aerospace Engineering Mechanical Engineering I know that in the world we live in today, being in the U.S. education programs is a great disadvantage to me so I'm trying to prepare myself as best as i can. Which major would give me the best chances of succeeding in the future? I think i would like aerospace and mechanical engineering-specifically the math involved, but i really like the design of architecture. By the time I graduate college i will have taken AP Statistics, AP Calculus, AP Art History, AP Comparative government, AP Physics and AP english (have not decided lang. or lit yet.) and 4 years of pre-architecture/engineering/design class. I've read around the internet and most sources say that mechanical engineering is one of the most promising careers in the future. Some of the other variables involved that can help me: My father is an architect and he has his own business so i could always take over there (even though i want to move away from home when i'm older) I have spent some time at NASA so they would consider me over other people because i have a history with them I know revit, autocad, inventor, microsoft office, and photoshop I am a pretty good runner so a sports scholarship isnt out of the question (this may be impossible with an architect major though.) more

Resolved Question: The full requirements for medical school?

Hi all! I am currently set on going to medical school in the near future (i am currently in year 11). I believed that my current plan would work-until i found out that to go to any university to study medicine, you are required to have done a shadowing course, over 2 years, in a medical establishment. Luckily, I have managed to sort this out, as one of my relatives is a nurse at a geriatric home. However, I think there are a few more unexpected suprises-and I would like to know as much as i need to know. I have recently rechecked the internet for anything, but have been unable to find anything at all. Is there anything I am missing? Any help is greatly appreciated. Here is my current list of things that I have now, or will have by the start of the first term (September 2012): *GCSE's in French, English language, English literature, Mathematics, Statistics, Biology, Chemisty, Physics, Business studies, Home economics, ICTand Religious studies *AS and A levels in Biology, Chemisty, Maths and Sports studies (currently considering an AS level in Physics or Psychology, with research done in spare time) *A completed Bio-Medical Admission's Test and UK Clinical Aptitude Test *A 2 year shadowing in a Guernsey Geriatric home *A first aid qualification *A works experience placement in a Pharmacy for 1 week *A hepatitis B full immunisation course, and antibody blood test *A second works experience placement in a healthcare environment (currently undecided) *Private research into medicine-escpecially orthopaedics and internal medicine If anyone can think of anything else I could do to help my application into medical school, please leave an answer. Thank you very much for your help! PS:The college i intend to apply to is Fitzwilliam college in Cambridge UniversityAt JB:You do need to do a full 2 years of medical shadowing-unless the university know you have done and will be doing this until you enter university, they will decline you as soon as they look at your application. At JB again:I cant shadow a doctor because of patient doctor confidentiality, and privacy patients expect when only with a doctor. The shadowing course i am on also involves helping at the home. I didnt mention my GCSE grades yet because i havent actually got them yet-i am to sit the exams in may/june this year. I know that getting one B could ruin my application, in any subject- i intend to fufil my grade predictions in all subjects-all A's and A*'s. Thanks for your other tips though. more

Resolved Question: Dont you think this article is wonderful and says it all?

Here is an article that I found on line that tells you if you should trust online articles or not. ARTICLE: When it comes to the internet, you know that there’s a lot of misleading, inaccurate or downright false information out there. By now, most of you have heard the advice, “Don’t trust everything you read.” But how can you tell what to trust and what not to? Here are some questions that you should get into the habit of asking whilst you’re reading anything (not just online): whether it’s a blog post, newspaper article, sales letter or brochure. What’s the Author’s Purpose? The most important question to ask, and one you should have in mind when you start to read, is “What’s the author’s purpose?” All writing has a purpose. It might be to: Entertain you – make you laugh Give you information Sell you something Encourage you to come back to a blog or magazine in future Build up the author’s reputation in his/her field Some purposes are inherently more trustworthy than others. For example, if the author is trying to give you information, or build her reputation, then the facts in the article are likely to be ones that the author at least believes are true. But if the author is trying to sell something, then read with caution. Who Is the Author? Even if the author’s purpose seems laudable, you’ll want to ask yourself who the author actually is. Have you ever heard of him? If so, is he an authority in his industry or field – or is he a suspected charlatan? For example, imagine an article entitled “How to Become a Lifecoach”. You should trust this if it was written by Tim Brownson, a qualified and practising lifecoach, who has an entertaining and informative blog. But if I had written the article, you definitely should take what I’ve written with a grain of salt. I’m a writer, not a coach, and I’ve never so much as read the “Dummy’s Guide to Lifecoaching”. Of course, as a professional writer, I sometimes do write on topics I don’t know much about. When I do this, I need to undertake a lot of research. So if you’re reading an article by an unknown writer, it’s especially important to ask the next couple of questions. Are Sources Cited? Does the author give you facts – especially statistics – without any evidence to back them up? In an entertaining piece, this might be fine (it doesn’t matter too much whether the numbers are right, so long as the article is funny). But if you’re reading an informative piece about the economy, and the author says, “Ten million people will be out of work by Christmas” – does she link to a particular source that backs this up? And just because you’ve heard a fact before doesn’t mean you should take it at face value. Have you ever read about the Harvard Goal Setting study? It’s an oft-cited example of why you should set written goals, which is usually referenced as first appearing in the book What They Don’t Teach You in the Harvard Business School, by Mark McCormack. This is how it goes (taken from Harvard Business School Story): In that year [1979], the students were asked, "Have you set clear, written goals for your future and made plans to accomplish them?" Only three percent of the graduates had written goals and plans; 13 percent had goals, but they were not in writing; and a whopping 84 percent had no specific goals at all. Ten years later, the members of the class were interviewed again, and the findings, while somewhat predictable, were nonetheless astonishing. The 13 percent of the class who had goals were earning, on average, twice as much as the 84 percent who had no goals at all. And what about the three percent who had clear, written goals? They were earning, on average, ten times as much as the other 97 percent put together. But a couple of weeks ago, I read Fact or Fiction? The Truth About The Harvard Written Goal Study on SidSavara.com. It was an eye-opener. Sid looked for the original study online, and found no evidence that the study ever existed, despite it being cited in numerous books and all over the web. There’s a very similar story about a Yale study in 1953 – which again, can’t be backed up. So just because a book is cited, don’t assume that the information in the book is necessarily accurate. Are Examples Included? Does the author write very abstract, high-level information, without any concrete details? The article might still be true but it’s not likely to be very useful to you. The most trustworthy articles won’t just include general principles or woolly statements, but will give examples too. And the best examples include specific figures or facts, or quotes from people who aren’t the author and who don’t have a vested interest. What do you trust more, “You could make loads as an online copywriter” or an article including several stories from different copywriters who are making over $50,000 a year? Does the Article Contradict Your Prior Knowledge? Finally, ask yourself whether the fFinally, ask yourself whether the facts in an article go against what you already know. If you read a sales letter for a new diet pill that claims you can “lose 20 lbs in a month”, you’ve got good reasons to be sceptical. Most people on a diet lose 1-2 lbs per week, and most diet pills are known to be notoriously ineffective and even dangerous (one, Acomplia, has recently been banned in the UK and was never approved for use in the US, due to its association with psychiatric problems). Any statements which seem “too good to be true” also fall into this category. You may not have prior knowledge of the exact area that the article is about, but you do know that most people don’t “make $$$ working from home” (or they’d all be doing it!) How do you figure out what to trust and what to ignore when you’re reading online – or when you’re reading books and newspapers? Which of the above tips do you think would help you most – or which would you like to add to the list? more

Resolved Question: Who needs help with becoming an actress!?

Hello! This is not a question, but rather a resource for all aspiring actors and actresses out there. Instead of i guess wasting your points asking how to become an actress, I will tell you how to become as successful as possible. Before I get started, let me give you a little background first. My name is Anna, and I have been in the acting business since I was 6 years old, and modeling since I was 4. I am now 13 years old, so that makes almost 9 years in the business. I do have experience, as I am not telling you my knowledge coming from someone who has zero experience. Step One: Get into some acting classes. Without these, you will get nowhere. It doesn't matter if you have natural talent or think you are they best, you must take these. It is a known fact that without training, casting directors wont even consider you for roles. For starters, I would suggest an improvisation class. If you are looking into getting into film or television acting, I would suggest taking a film or television acting workshop. Classes should not cost more that a few hundred dollars, if that. Many classes are offered at local theater companies. With some research on the internet and in the phone book, finding a class perfect for you will be easy. Step 2 So great! You are now enrolled in an acting class. You are now ready for the next step: gaining experience. Audition for local theater productions, school plays, church plays, and independent films. As a beginner actor, you will not automatically start out by doing films and television shows. You must work your way up. Gaining enough training should take about a year. It would be a plus if you got some leads or main roles. To find auditions, call your local theater company, or contact your local community college, which may be holding auditions for student films, which look great on any resume. For all people who want to become an actor on the Disney Channel: please do not send your audition tapes to Disney. Unless you have an agent with an impressive resume, they will not even consider you. You will be just wasting your time. Also, "casting call" websites are not a good place to start. Many of those sites usually are scams, or are looking for experienced actors. STEP 3 Great! So you've been taking acting classes and have some experience in acting. Now you have some background and are not going into this clueless. The next step is to get 8x10 color headshots of yourself. If you are serious about acting, you should get AT LEAST 300 of these prints, which will be used for auditions, casting calls, etc. Also, you must create a resume, which is a written copy of all previous acting training and experience, as well as your statistics and special skills. You can go to http://www.bestsampleresume.com/acting-resumes.html to find the best format for you. Paste your resume to the back of your headshot. You are now ready for the next step, and perhaps the most challenging and exciting step... getting an agent. STEP 4 So you have created a resume and have your headshots done. It is now time to get an agent. Agents help find auditions and casting calls for you to go on, and is another essential part of showbiz. The do not cost a thing! Never pay an agent. They only take around 15% of the money you earn when you book a job. Start out by finding a local agent. Don't get an agent in Hollywood or NYC unless you live there. To find a list of SAG franchised agencies in your area, visit http://www.sag.org . Once you have picked out a few different agencies that seem legit or that you like, send them your resume and headshot, along with a cover letter in a yellow envelope. Do not drop these off. (A cover letter is a letter briefly describing why you would be an asset to their company.) If the agency likes you, they will call you in for an interview. This can take anywhere from a few days to a few months, so don't get discouraged. If you impress them at the interview, you will be asked to sign with their agency. Please also be aware that if you don't receive a call from an agency, it's not that they didn't like you, it's just maybe your not what they were looking for. Once you sign with an agency, they will send you on auditions for film, television, commercials, and theater depending on your type of agency. Those are basically all of the basic steps on how to become a professional actor or actress. I am not guaranteeing success, but if you follow these steps I know that you will get somewhere. Also, keep in mind that most television shows, films, and commercials are shot in Los Angeles and NYC. Eventually, you will have to move to either one of these cities if you are serious about acting. Check out these sites for acting tips, resources, and more: http://startips.com/ http://sag.org/ http://cricketfeet.org/bizkids/ http://www.redbirdstudio.com/AWOL Check out these important tips below: NEVER attend acting classes at places like John Robert Powers, Barbizon, ProModel more

Resolved Question: If you state statistics about unhappy customers in a refund request is that a threat?

I wrote this complaint letter after not hearing back from the owner and she said I was threatening her. This was not my intent at all. I was simply trying to get her to see that refunding my money was worth more to her than not. Here is the letter, please tell if it sounds threatening. Dear XXX I wrote an email to your salon last week about a refund on my hair and I have not heard from anyone. Although I did, like XXX as a person, he has ruined my hair. I went back in the same day to give him a chance to fix my hair but he only made it worse. I told him it was grey the minute he took the towel off and he kept telling me it is not grey and he wished there were better lighting in the salon. Attached is the photo I brought in asking for my natural color with golden blonde highlights. Also attached is the photo of what I ended up with, purple and grey hair. I had not washed my hair yet when this photo was taken but it is only getting worse just from one washing. The purple is coming out more and now it's just a dull grey. While styling my hair XXX burned me with the curling iron and I now have a huge painful scab where this happened. I have tried to be reasonable about this, allowing him to try and fix it and requesting a refund to no avail. I will have to pay someone a great deal to get this fixed and I can only hope my hair can survive this process. After crying about this for 2 days, I am now angry about this situation and my patience is gone. I cannot get this fixed until you issue a refund. Since it was a debit to my card you can simply credit my account. I cannot even go out to see my customers because I am so embarrassed about this purple and grey hair, my self confidence to present myself in public is at an all time low because I look like crap!! Statistics show that if one unhappy customer tells 10 people, which is, the average in studies, that they are unhappy about something then that information will reach 500 people. Now, with the internet those numbers can rise to thousands. I have not told anyone, except my attorney of my experience at XXXXXX and do not intend to unless we cannot settle this matter. I realize we have just gone thru a holiday and this may be why I have not heard from you. Is this much bad publicity worth $155 to you? As a business owner myself, I believe it would be in the best interest of your time and business to issue me a refund so that I will go away and be allowed to rectify this situation. I had dinner with my attorney last evening and he has informed me that I do have other recourse if you do not do the right thing and issue a refund. Please call me or issue a refund immediately. more

Resolved Question: Statistics, question please help.?

CASE: SHELL ATTEMPTS TO RETURN TO PREMIERE STATUS The Shell Oil Company, which began about 1912, had been for decades a household name as a quality oil company in the United States. However, by the late 1970s much of its prestige as a premiere company had disappeared. How could Shell regain its high status? In the 1990s, Shell undertook an extensive research effort to find out what it needed to do to improve its image. As a first step, Shell hired Responsive Research and the Opinion Research Corporation to conduct a series of focus groups and personal interviews among various segments of the population. Included in these were youths, legislators, academics, and present and past employees of Shell. The researchers learned that people believe that top companies are integral parts of the communities in which the companies are located rather than separate entities. These studies and others led to the development of materials that Shell used to explain their core values to the general public. Next, PERT Survey Research ran a large quantitative study to determine which values were best received by the target audience. Social issues emerged as the theme with the most support. During the next few months, the advertising agency of Ogilvy & Mather, hired by Shell, developed several campaigns with social themes. Two market research companies were hired to evaluate the receptiveness of the various campaigns. The result was the “Count on Shell” campaign, which featured safety messages with useful information about what to do in various dangerous situations. A public “Count on Shell” campaign was launched in February 1998 and met with considerable success: the ability to recall Shell advertising jumped from 20% to 32% among opinion influencer's; more than 1million copies of Shell’s free safety brochures were distributed and activity on Shell’s Internet “Count on Shell” site remains extremely strong. By promoting itself as a reliable company that cares, Shell seems to be regaining its premiere status. Today, Shell continues its efforts to be “community friendly.” United Way of America announced Shell Oil Company as one of its three Spirit of America Summit Award winners for 2002 and commended the company for its outstanding volunteer and corporate contributions programs. Several Shell employees were recognized by the Houston Minority Business Council for their continued efforts to provide windows of opportunity for minority business owners and strengthen Shell’s commitment to supplier diversity. Shell employees and retires give back to their communities through such Shell-sponsored activities as America’s WETLAND campaign, Shell’s Workforce Development Initiative, and other community/quality of life and environmental projects. Shell is also a strong supporter of the Points of Light Foundation, which strives to engage people more effectively in volunteer community service. Discussion: 1. Suppose you were asked to develop a sampling plan to determine what a “premiere company” is to the general public. What sampling plan would you use? What is the target population? What would you use for a frame? Which of the four types of random sampling discussed in this chapter would you use? Could you use a combination of two or more of the types (two-stage-sampling)? If so, how? 2. It appears that at least one of the research companies hired by Shell used some stratification in their sampling. What are some of the variables on which they are stratified? If you were truly interested in ascertaining opinions from a variety of segments of the population which regard to opinions on “premiere” companies or about Shell, what strata might make sense? Name at least five and justify why you would include them. more

Resolved Question: econ majors help me!?

can anyone tell me the strength and weakness of this subsidy? WASHINGTON -- Imports of processed French fries from Canada depressed prices for the 2003 potato crop, the U.S. Department of Agriculture ruled, and Idaho potato farmers stand to receive government aid payments as a result. The department last week approved and is expected today to certify a petition by the Potato Growers of Idaho stating that imports of Canadian French fries depressed Idaho fresh-market prices by more than 21% in the 2003 season. The import flood was another blow to an industry already hurting from the low-carb diet craze and a slowdown in the expansion of fast-food restaurant chains, which sell about 90% of the fries consumed in the U.S. "The last several years have been very brutal for growers in the fresh market," said Paul Patterson, an agricultural economist at the University of Idaho. The government aid, called trade adjustment assistance, would have no affect on current potato prices, he said. Trade adjustment assistance, long available to manufacturers hurt by foreign competition, was expanded by Congress to include farmers in 2002. It allows producers to receive up to $10,000 in cash as well as technical and marketing training if they can demonstrate to the Department of Agriculture's satisfaction that foreign countries hurt domestic prices. Petitions are made by individual states. Idaho growers who sell potatoes in the fresh market have 90 days starting today to apply at their county's Farm Service Agency to participate in the program. Once growers are approved for the assistance, they can receive cash benefits based on their production, according to Dennis Fiess, a trade adjustment assistance specialist at Washington State University. The payment comes to 3.5 cents per hundred pounds of potatoes, and Idaho's Farm Service Agency expects the estimated 285 eligible farmers to collect a total of roughly $1 million. There were 818 potato farms in Idaho in 2002, according to the Idaho Agricultural Statistics Office. Idaho produced 12.3 billion pounds of potatoes in 2003, down from 13.3 billion in 2002. Production rebounded to 13.2 billion pounds in 2004. Agriculture experts and Idaho growers said imports of processed French fries from Canada surged 24% to 1.72 billion pounds in 2003, displacing 670 million pounds of Idaho potatoes. The fresh potato price dropped to 3.85 cents per pound in the 2003 season, from the five-year average price of 4.9 cents per pound The government program's cash benefits will soften the blow of the French fry imports, but in terms of the overall cost for farmers it may not help much, Idaho farmers say. "It's a drop in the bucket for any average potato farmer's cost," said Keith Esplin, executive director of the Blackfoot, Idaho-based Potato Growers of Idaho, who brought the petition. "It won't anywhere near begin to make up for his losses." Mr. Fiess will be working with Foreign Agricultural Service and Idaho farmers to come up with "shotgun" business training for the farmers. It will include workshops, some available over the Internet, on such basic business-management skills as using a balance sheet and cash-flow statement. "We're not going to provide them with an M.B.A.," said Mr. Fiess. "It's more of an overview." more

Resolved Question: Can my employer get away with this?

I am currently on suspension from work for alledged Gross Misconduct. The allegations relate to running my own online business at work. Even though I do have an online business the most I have done at work is check the content on the site and also checked my site statistics. I have also visited a few other sites related to my site (ie competitors), but thats it. From the log file of my internet browser they have found that a few times I did this during the working day. I have a hearing in a few days, where I have requested the evidence and to be honest there is not much. My question is - Does anyone know or have experience of what my employer can actually do in this instance. Can they sack me on the grounds of viewing these sites (no adult content btw) . Have they got grounds to make me redundant or have they not got a leg to stand on? If anyone genuinely knows what they can do and what I should in this situation I would be very greatful.I am going to go away and read very carefully the section on internet usage in my contract. Thank you for all your useful answers, they have helped. more

Resolved Question: Should I take this commission only job?

My biggest concern taking a commission only job is the uncertainty of income. I have been told the first month is the hardest as that's the training period but the statistics of this company are that 99% of the calls/emails are for wanting to purchase and they need staff because they are unable to efficiently deal with each customer. It's a growing business and was recommended thru a family friend which leads me to believe they wouldn't set me up. I have sales experience and it's not a retail situation, everything is done by phone and internet. The question is do I tough it out and quit after 6 months if there is nothing decent coming in? My partner is a registered nurse so I am not living alone. more

Resolved Question: Where can I find part-time ambitious people in Singapore?

Over the next few months I'll be researching and starting up a number of small businesses in Singapore. Some of these will be internet-based and some will be more retail-based businesses. Part of the startup process will be to reseach the market and I'll need some people to help out. The kind of work I'm talking about would range from researching competition using Google, collecting statistics through government websites, and performing primary data collection through interviews and paper surveys of the public - things like asking people to fill in a questionnaire. It's not glamerous work but can be very interesting, and could lead to something bigger. It'd be very suitable for a student in high school or university who has a bit of free time, wants to earn some extra money and work on something interesting. Is there any place to find people like this? Some kind of part-time job board, career center, university employment center, something like that? Thanks! more
