Fayette County among group declared state disaster areas during floods

SPRINGFIELD - Nineteen Southern Illinois counties were declared state disaster areas Thursday morning after flooding covered roads, closed businesses and drove people from their homes.The designation, which came after two people died Wednesday in floodwaters in Jefferson County, puts residents and businesses in line for possible state and federal aid."The state has been working closely with local emergency management officials to assess their needs for assistance, and this state disaster declaration will ensure these counties get what they need to protect public safety and speed the recovery process," Gov. Rod Blagojevich said.Included in the declaration are: Alexander, Fayette, Franklin, Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Marion, Massac, Perry, Pope, Pulaski, Randolph, Saline, Union, White and Williamson counties. more

Barington Capital Wants to Inspect Dillard's Records About Perks, Business Relationships

NEW YORK (AP) - A hedge fund attempting to gain four seats on the board of Dillard's Inc. has asked to inspect the department store chain's records related to executive perquisites and business relationships, according to a regulatory filing on Tuesday.

Barington Capital Group LP, led by James Mitarotonda, and its affiliate, Clinton Group Inc., has blamed Chairman, President and Chief Executive William Dillard II for Dillard's declining stock price.

The hedge fund asked for the records related to executives' perquisites or non-cash compensation, use of company aircraft and business expenses. Barington also asked to inspect records regarding contractors and construction developers, family and business relationships and the company's retirement trust.

Rhodia and Lyondell enter negotiations for sale of Isocyanates businesses Thursday, March 20, 2008

Paris -- Rhodia and Lyondell Chime TDI SCA Wednesday announced that they have entered into exclusive negotiations for the sale of their Isocyanates businesses to the Perstorp Group. This divestment project includes Rhodia�s aliphatic Isocyanates activity (HDI, IPDI and derivatives) producing a range of intermediates for industrial paints and coatings; and Lyondell�s aromatic isocyanates business (TDI) with the production of intermediates for polyurethane foams, operated under contract by Rhodia. These activities are essentially based in Pont-de-Claix (France) and in Freeport (USA) and together employ around 680 people. The finalization of this divestment project should take place over the next few months, once consultations with the employees� representatives have been completed and the necessary authorizations required by law have been obtained. more
