Business, HIV link

Private business needs to take more responsibility for the country's children, especially those affected by malnutrition and HIV and Aids. This is according to a children's rights group that on Wednesday took part in a discussion held by the South African Business Coalition on HIV and Aids on how business impacts on the lives of children and what they can do to improve children's lives. Cati Vawdi, of the Children's Rights Centre, said businesses do not see a link between children and the private sector, and with children's rights groups having to go to them to beg for money all the time, fatigue had started to set in. . more

Stelter also sees her customers less often. "They're waiting a little longer to have their pets groomed. It's a tight pinch out there."

Bartenders, waiters, hairstylists, cab drivers and other workers who depend on tips for income say they are tallying smaller gratuities these days. On top of that, customers also have cut down on how often they eat out or buy services.

How much it is hurting is hard to tell precisely, since the Internal Revenue Service and the Census Bureau do not break out tip data. But workers say they are taking a major hit. more

Resolved Question: Is it alright with you if the government monitors your driving 24/7 in the fight against global warming?

A report released today by the UK Government's Sustainable Development Commission calls for around-the-clock monitoring of driver's speed to force them to slow down and help cut down their emissions of Co2 in the battle against global warming. It calls for taking control of the car's speed away from the driver and having it controlled by the government via satellite. Is that alright with you? The report said: [quote] ----------------------------------------------------------- ""The UK Sustainable Development Commission yesterday released a report recommending the use of average speed cameras for round-the-clock tracking of motorist journeys nationwide. The government advisory body said that widespread deployment of average speed cameras was required to reduce the emission of carbon dioxide by automobiles, a factor that some believe is linked to global changes in temperature. The report made a number of recommendations affecting the driving public. "The business models associated with private motoring are not aligned with sustainability," the report explained The report also called for a "clear timetable" for the introduction of Intelligent Speed Adaptation technology that would use global positioning satellites to take away control of vehicle speed from the driver, making it impossible for a car to exceed the limit on a given road. The same information communications technology (ICT) infrastructure could be used for congestion pricing, tolling of every journey and charging for insurance by the number of miles driven. The commission explained that such systems would require a substantial and ongoing financial investment."" --------------------------------------------------------------- It also said that such a system could be a big step towards road-pricing where every journey would be taxed appropriately. Of course, this is just the UK, but once the technology is in place and shown to work, no doubt there will be calls by international bodies to roll it out worldwide to help fight global warming. http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/30/3031.aspThe full report is available here: http://www.sd-commission.org.uk/EDIT - @ Vampire Muffin Man. Well said. For commercial vehicles it many be worth looking at as an industry standard. But not private vehicles, that as you say is fascistic. more

Resolved Question: WWE International Division gets a new person heading it up just now?

Ok. I own a little WWE stock and was just checking my account, and this release just came out. I'm curious of a few things and wonder if anybody here can shed some light: -I don't notice a statement of who he's replacing. Generally a release like this says that someone's stepped down or whatever and so-and-so is being promoted. Do you find this unusual? -If this guy's going to oversee *International*, why are they moving him back to Stamford, CT? lol -I don't know much about what goes on outside of the US w/WWE except that the wrestlers do travel there somewhat routinely and do put shows on. Do you think having a new head of this division will get more European talent into the ranks? What changes do you foresee, if any, or is this just a boardroom thing? Resolved Question: Why is Dr Rajendra Pachauri Head UN's climate change panel making a fortune from carbon trading company's?

You will recognise this man from the television as no one in the world exercised more influence on the events leading up to the Copenhagen conference on global warming than Dr Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and mastermind of its latest report in 2007. Although Dr Pachauri is often presented as a scientist (he was even once described by the BBC as “the world’s top climate scientist”), as a former railway engineer with a PhD in economics he has no qualifications in climate science at all. What has also almost entirely escaped attention, however, is how Dr Pachauri has established an astonishing worldwide portfolio of business interests with bodies which have been investing billions of dollars in organisations dependent on the IPCC’s policy recommendations. These outfits include banks, oil and energy companies and investment funds heavily involved in ‘carbon trading’ and ‘sustainable technologies’, which together make up the fastest-growing commodity market in the world, estimated soon to be worth trillions of dollars a year. Today, in addition to his role as chairman of the IPCC, Dr Pachauri occupies more than a score of such posts, acting as director or adviser to many of the bodies which play a leading role in what has become known as the international ‘climate industry’ Read more from the Telegraph here... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/6847227/Questions-over-business-deals-of-UN-climate-change-guru-Dr-Rajendra-Pachauri.html more

Resolved Question: Will Hong Kong's worldwide status be much more prominent than Singapore's if it hasnt under China's umbrella?

HK's GDP, GDP/capita, business environment/opportunities, Chinese language ability, knowledge on China, freedom of expressions/press/protests/gatherings, ease in setting up companies/doing business, flexibilities, people's persistence/hardworking, long working hours, gift's investments in infrastrutures, transparents of the govt and policies, degree of govt in listening to its people, willingness of HK's media to report on even the most devastated events........so forth are surely much greater in Hong Kong than in Singapore, yet since its return to China, Hong Kong is getting less and less mentioned in the international arena. World prominent leaders like the US President has visited Singapore few times in recent years, giving keynote speeches there which helped to draw tremendous of worldwide publicity/promotions on the small city nation. The US President has not stepped foot in Hong Kong since its return. At the same time and quite on the contrary, certain media and spokesmen inside the mainland time and again deliberately downplay or attack on HK's success particularly the bald headed Commentator, Mr Yuen Chi San of the Phoenix TV who talks more like a leftest of the Central Govt spokesman, with an intention to inform people in the mainland that the gap between the 2 places is not as threatening nor as big as one would have imagined. Also many foreingers living outside of China eg those appearing on here are confused about HK's status, some even thought HK is just another communist city like Shanghai or Beijing. For those that have been living in HK before and after '97 the sovereignty handover would agree that HK's governing, systems, responsiveness to citizens' concerns including cleaniliness of streets, plantations, freedom of press and expressions, business and job opportunities, govt investments and work etc etc are much better now than before.correction above, "gift's" investments in infrastrutures should read "govt's".Serious answers/analysis highly appreciated.Elena S, things arent as simple as you imagine out in the political world. Don has correctly pointed out that the competition between Hong Kong and Singapore is in reality competitions between the 2 forces, ie US and China acting behind. In case you dont know, Singapore had its systems borrowed from HK after the country was set up back in the 60s. Like China of today, Sing dispatched a lot of its civil servants to go to HK in the 70s and early 80s and to learn HK's govt systems and so forth. HK's ICAC, HKTDC, HKTB, Housing Authority etc are all being copied by the Sing. government. more

But victims of the climate they live mainly in developing countries the number of people living in poverty, victims of hunger and no access to safe water has increased the water crisis will worsen more the melting of glaciers will lead to problems for the water supply of millions of people. in next the ten years, the increase of the sea level that will submerge the coastal zones and entire islands, will transform million persons in climatic refugees us. The conference will be held in Copenhagen in December 2009, an agreement will have to be absolutely found on the protection of the climate, so as to make official the limit of the 2 degrees, leaving to the South a margin for its development. In order to reach this result it will be necessary to respect the following principles: 1. Lessening of the emissions of CO2 of 40% in the industrialized countries within 2020 (comprised Switzerland). 2. Lessening of the half of the emissions of CO2 on a worldwide basis within 2050 3. Financing of the measures of adaptation in the underdeveloped nations through a bottom fed mainly from the industrialized countries. 4. Guarantee of an access express and economic to rispettose technologies of the atmosphere for the underdeveloped nations. other great problem will be the new war with the globalization, in every angle of the world the multinationals have understood the business of the new century the water resources of the world are little and are inefficiently distributed. the water is becoming a precious good and it will control it to who will have power and profit the multinationals have not lost time and they have delivered their attack started a battle between giants. the rights of human beings will be trampled. more

Resolved Question: Is this a good essay? Any suggestions?

IF YOU GOING TO EDIT THIS FOR ME, THANK YOU. PLEASE DON'T BE CRUEL!!!! For a country to achieve great success in a particular sector, it is of great importance for said country to invest in education, either in the private sector or the public sector, thereby producing knowledge workers. Canada, including many other countries such as Japan and India have adopted this strategy and utilizing it to their own advantage, have dominated many industries; some of which being Gaming, Robotics, and Pharmaceuticals. It was only a few decades ago, when the gaming industry was first born. It was the birth of Nintendo, Sega, Dreamcaste, etc. Today the gaming industry has escalated into one of the biggest and wealthiest markets in the world. “According to IDC(International Data Coporation), gaming was a 26.6 billion dollar worldwide industry in 2006 and it is only prospering.” This industry is now making more than Hollywood annually, which was never seen possible. Countries like Canada specifically, have looked at this industry and saw it as a big asset, and so invested in it. Canada has taken advantage of this opportunity and now has become the leader in Gaming. How? Canada didn’t just buy Gaming companies from other countries and such, they went for a more logical and more beneficial route in the long run, and they invested in education, producing knowledge workers, who in the long run established their own gaming operations, which have become a global brand, such as Montreal’s UBISOFT. The Canadian government have invested millions into gaming industries and education and in return receive 1000’s of jobs. “The government of Ontario…managed to lure Ubisoft with an investment of C$263 million ($227 million US) over 10 years to help set up the publisher's new digs. For its part, Ubisoft will be spending more than half a billion dollars in the new development studio, which will create over 800 jobs.” Ubisoft, a known global gaming brand, is looking to expand, “unveiling an ambitious six-year, $451-million expansion to its operations. The plan will see Ubisoft's ranks in Quebec swell from 1,600 employees to 3,000 by the end of 2013, with 500 of those new jobs earmarked for a recently created in-house animation studio.” Not only are they expanding operations they are looking to produce movies, "We're going to take the next few years to learn how to make movies," said Ubisoft Montreal communications director Cedric Orvoine. The step taken by Canadian Gaming companies to become a global leader has helped the economy significantly, in the sense that it provides lots of jobs, and brings in lots of revenue and in these rough times Canadian businesses need to step up, and do their part to help end the recession in Canada. “The Canadian gaming industry generates $14 billion in revenues a year and directly supports more than 50,000 jobs in Canada.” Not many Canadians are aware that the gaming industry gives back to the Canadian community, but in a PMG poll it is highlighted that the Canadian gaming industry actually contributes $7 billion to governments and charities and invests about $75 million annually on responsible gaming research and treatment. These polls themselves justify how important these industries are to the Canadian economy and to Canada. We can all honestly say that Canadian gaming industries ultimately give back more than how much we invest into them. Today, we live in a new age, a society where technology is much more advanced than it has ever been. We no longer break are backs doing tasks that require hard labour; instead we have robots that perform tasks efficiently and conveniently. Robotics, what is it? Robotics is the engineering science and technology of robots, and their design, manufacture, application, and structural disposition. It has only been about a century since Henry Ford proposed and used the idea of an assembly line, where robots were used to build cars faster and better. From their, we have come to an age where we can produce robots that can walk, talk, and follow commands. “There are robots serving as receptionists, vacuuming office corridors, spoon-feeding the elderly. They serve tea, greet company guests and chatter away at public technology displays.” We have come here with the help of the Japanese, who have invested billions of dollars in the education of knowledge workers and have funded many robotic projects, “In the past several years, the government has funded a plethora of robotics-related efforts, including some $42 million for the first phase of a humanoid robotics project, and $10 million a year between 2006 and 2010 to develop key robot technologies.” It is evident that Japan is the most dominating country in robotics, which is due their commitment and dedication to this field. Some ask why Japan takes that much of a risk, investing billions in this field, and in order to answer that question you must look at the statistics; According to Hiroko Tabuchi of the associated more

Resolved Question: can you summerize this for me?

Ugandan refugee turns hotel soap to hope Nearly two decades after he arrived in this country, Ugandan Derreck Kayongo is still bowled over by one subtle display of American wealth: the endless array of soaps available in stores. In his African homeland, the cost of soap is out of reach for many, often with tragic consequences. In 2004, the World Health Organization found roughly 15 percent of deaths among Ugandan children under age 5 resulted from diarrheal diseases, many of which could be prevented through hand sanitation. Now America's bountiful soap bars have prompted Kayongo to launch the Global Soap Project, an effort to help his country's poorest - one used bar of hotel soap at a time. An Atlanta-based anti-poverty advocate, Kayongo has collected several tons of lightly used soap bars under a plan to melt them down, sterilize them and reshape the soap for shipment to refugees in Uganda to help curb disease. For Uganda's destitute, soap is a luxury. "Most people find it very hard to spend money on something like soap which could actually help them prevent diseases," Kayongo said. A bar of soap can run 500 Ugandan shillings - about 10 American cents - on a continent where many refugees have a dollar to live on daily. Cleaning up with used soap sounds, well, dirty. But Kayongo said soaps will be separated by hotel brand and gently washed to remove makeup and other surface dirt. Next, bars will go into a high-temperature oven where they will melt and transform into a soapy, sterile, slurry. Kayongo said the mixture will go into molds to harden and emerge as large bars of soap. "All it needs is just cleaning and re-melting and remolding," he said. Soap for charity Each day, in millions of American hotel rooms, the cleaning staff replaces soap and other toiletries. Patrick Maher, a consultant to the American Hotel & Lodging Association, said hotels usually throw away used soap. But he said nonprofits have begun stepping up to recycle soap for charitable purposes. "It's one of the new things this year," Maher said. One such charity, Florida-based Clean the World, says it has collected about 17,000 pounds of used soap since February for distribution in impoverished countries worldwide. For the Global Soap Project, Kayongo says he has gathered 10,000 pounds of used hotel soap from 60 hotels in Georgia, Florida and Tennessee. Hotels collect lightly used bars which they place in bins. One of Kayongo's 10 volunteers takes the bars to a donated warehouse near Atlanta that he's using. Kayongo's own family had once thrived off his father's business making soaps and running a printing press in Uganda. But Kayongo said they went from being members of the middle class to refugees, losing everything under the harsh rule of former Ugandan dictator Idi Amin. The family fled to Kenya, where Kayongo said life without basics became the norm. Now Kayongo wants to give other refugees a small item that can make a big difference. He plans to send off his first shipment in late October. Kayongo, a senior advocacy field coordinator for CARE International, has committed about $5,000 of his own money toward the $13,000 cost to send the soap and is seeking donations to make up the rest. CARE International, a global anti-poverty group, is not sponsoring the project. The luxury of soap Since June, just one Ritz-Carlton hotel in Atlanta's Buckhead neighborhood has turned over 3,000 pounds of soap which otherwise would have gone into the trash. "When I heard Derreck speak about it, I thought it sounded really easy and why haven't we been doing this all along?" said Olivia Brown, a manager at the hotel. Kayongo got the idea back in the mid '90s. He'd recently arrived in America and when he settled into his hotel, Kayongo was surprised to find packages of soap. He used the bars, but was confused the next day when he found they'd been replaced. "This went on for two or three days," said Kayongo, who finally called his father back in Africa and chuckled about it. The men talked about how the soap could be melted down and reused. Kayongo sat on the idea for a few years, until his father recently brought it back up. "If you live on a dollar a day," Kayongo said, "what are the chances you spend even one cent of that dollar on buying a luxury like soap?" more

Resolved Question: One Jehovah's Witness ask the world & U.N., Can the Pope and Secretary-General really get Peace and Security?

Ban Ki-moon My priorities as Secretary-General-A Stronger United Nations for a Better World http://www.un.org/sg/peacedaymessage2009.shtml http://www.un.org/sg/priority.shtml Secretary-General says, "We must build on this momentum. To that end, I am launching the WMD-WeMustDisarm! Campaign. Over the next 100 days, the United Nations and our partners around the world will work to raise awareness of the true costs and dangers of nuclear weapons. Between now and 21 September, we will issue 100 reasons to disarm, via Twitter, MySpace, Facebook, email, text message, radio and from friend-to-friend. Celebrities will also help us spread the message. And finally, as we observe the International Day of Peace with world leaders gathered in New York for the 64th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, I will proclaim one strong, simple message: We Must Disarm!" Are that other words for Peace and Security? Watch! 1 Thessalonians 5:3 "Whenever it is that they are saying: “Peace and security!” then sudden destruction is to be instantly upon them just as the pang of distress upon a pregnant woman; and they will by no means escape." So at a time the world think they have it fixed, it will come apart! They might put on a show for a little time but it cannot last long. The beast will again come out in them! Without Jehovah, people become beast like. And only the righteous runs to him not to the U.N. beast! Jehovah's Witnesses have run to Jehovah has the rest of the world run to the U.N. with the Pope? Reform of the United Nations Organization needed the Pope wrote! "There is a strongly felt need... for a reform of the United Nations Organization, and likewise of economic institutions and international finance, so that the concept of the family of nations can acquire real teeth... there is urgent need of a true world political authority," the Pope wrote. The strengthened international body should work "to bring about integral and timely disarmament, food security and peace, to guarantee the protection of the environment and to regulate migration," Benedict said. If by chance we Jehovah's Witnesses are right about religion mixing in government business is bad business can you contact the government leaders and ask them why is a world religious leader mixing in international world business? You can ask an elder in your area for details if you like of JW's about the U.N. etc. to get a clear idea what we do know in truth. We are not out to hurt the Pope or anyone else but we do see what Revelation is talking about seriously in deed! Jehovah's Witnesses are far from being perfect too just like first Christians but they have gone deep into looking into Revelation, Daniel, and other books of the Bible looking for the right sense of what is said there in truth. And no part of it tells us to hurt those who hate us and make themselves our enemy needlessly but take what we know peacefully to the people and let them make the choice to hear or not. Jehovah God and we want people to know the facts if they make that choice to know, no forced will! If you do not want to hear we move on to the next door! Peace and Security will come from Jehovah's kingdom in the hands of Jesus Christ not the human U.N.! Proverbs 18:10 "The name of Jehovah is a strong tower. Into it the righteous runs and is given protection." not the human U.N.! Pick your own choice with your own free will! August 4, 2009. This is by one Jehovah’s Witness not by the Watchtower but in agreement with the rest of that worldwide loving brotherhood! Email: un.bitespope@yahoo.com more

Voting Question: Accounting worldwide. Does it differ?

I am not from the United States, but would like to study Accounting there. Most likely I will have to go back home after I am done studying, so I am curious to what extend accounting differs in the world. I do not want to have a degree I can't do anything with. I looked online and it says that the United States uses GAAP accounting. But in Europe they seem to mainly use IFRS Accounting if I understood that correctly. So does that mean an Accounting degree from the States could not be used in Europe? It also says online (Wikipedia) that countries in the world will want to use the same accounting standards in the near future, so that the books can be understood by investors from everywhere. But what accounting will that be and where can I study that? I only see schools offering GAAP accounting in the United States. Is there also something like international accounting and would that be useful? Note: I studied business before, but have not had much success in the job market. My degree was simply not specialized enough I feel. I would be thankful for any good advice. ThanksWhere do you study IFRS? more

(they obviously studied overseas) the question is, will I get the same salary or double to $50 000 USD which is the minimum for banking salaries in America. i'm not sure if working at a big bank like HSBC in HCMC will offer me $25 000 USD (vietnamese citizens) or $50 000 USD (the Minimum at HSBC worldwide) any suggestions or tips will greatly help me decide as i'm very stressed out :( xoxo!thanks Buon! that sounds really bad for accounting students. but if you want to be an investment banker, i really think banks would chooose only international students as everyone told me that the higher education is vietnam is bad more

Resolved Question: MJ's INVINCIBLE Album Did NOT Flop!!!! Here's the Facts Disproving that FLAWED Theory.?

You know, I've sat back QUIETLY the last couple years and listened how the media (and so many STUPID people, sitting behind their computers) dismiss Michael Jackson's Invincible album as a "flop". The music business was in a BIG tail spin with sales, BEGINNING in 2001, even before 9/11, and I remember this VIVIDLY. In 2001, Michael Jackson....a guy who the Britney/Backstreet Boys generation of music buying fans probably had little concern for....released Invincible, and managed to EASILY sell several millions of copies, which isn't easy for ANYBODY past the 2000-millenium era! To date, it's sold over 10 million copies worldwide...in this economically challenging day in age..an economy that's REALLY been damaged ever since the dumb *** George W. Bush ****** UP everything on the planet! Now, in 2005...Mariah Carey put out her Emancipation of Mimi "comeback" album, and it wound up selling just about the same as MJ's Invincible did, and given (statistically) the amount of records Mariah's broken, number 1 hits, etc., she's also a big superstar. Not AS big as Michael, but definitely a global international star. However, the media (and most music fans) regarded it as a big success! It wound up selling about the same as Invincible (even though she released WAY more singles and videos than Michael did)....and put out more music relating to the urban/pop music crowd of today. STILL, people regarded her album as a "success"...yet, regarded Michael's album as a "flop"? DEFINITELY not as much as Thriller, Bad, and Dangerous (which would NEVER be replicated, ESPECIALLY not with today's breed of terrible music and mindless music listeners). I'm HIGHLY tempted at emailing several top bloggers, AP reporters, etc...and pointing this out, unless they already know that Invincible isn't/shouldn't be considered a flop, but that they just wanna continue citing it as a flop so that they can continue to find a reason to leave a stain in MJ's bio (since the media OBVIOUSLY CAN'T report ANYTHING 100% positive about the guy...alive OR dead, as I've seen the past two days!) more

Resolved Question: Michael Jackson Was $500,000,000 In Debt, He Had Some Superb Financial Accountants (Hangers On) Didnt He?

How do you go from nothing in 1968 to nothing in 2009 after 41 years in the Global music business, 175,000,000+ in disc sales, countless grammy awards, music rights to The Beatles songs through the $47.5 Million 1985 acquisition of ATV Music Publishing over which he and Sony were having a fight, not to mention Paul McCartney ? What about his poor mother Kathleen, whom watched her baby grow and rise as a 9 year old singing and dancing sensation to International super stardom with legions of admirers worldwide, only to then see him go through financial, legal, emotional and a host of other turmoil and anguish, etc etc ( Hell ) and then die before she does. Normally our parents leave before us. Her heart must be so broken right now. Resolved Question: Is this true? Welcome to BarryWorld?

Anyone as puzzled as I was about all the media hype on our new Administration, or notice the media does not ask our new Administration any challenging questions? There's been a great deal of censorship in the news, and on the Internet, it forums and newspapers in the past few months, and we are losing our freedom of speech quickly. Is this why all the deaths at Disneyland and Disney World don't get reported? Walt Disney Productions is one of Obama's largest money contributors - the donations below do not include the contributions by the companies owned by Disney. And take a look below to see what media Disney owns: http://www.opensecrets.org/pres08/search.php?cid=N00009638&name=%28all%29&employ=Walt+Disney&state=%28all%29&zip=%28any+zip%29&submit=OK&amt=a&sort=A Walt Disney Productions owns the media companies below. Any wonder you cannot believe anything you read anymore? Think twice before buying anything "Disney" - because that's who's running this Country now. And we wonder why the theme park continues to flourish with so many children's deaths that don't even shut down a ride for a day? - the majority not being reported. And this is who is now stifling our ability to speak out as well. Resolved Question: Is our president obama relying on americans disinterest in politics to rob the united states blind?

Obama’s misnamed “Financial Regulatory Reform Plan” is a brazen attempt by the bankers to consolidate their power. Obama’s plan will be run out of the Treasury under former New York Fed Grand Poobah Timothy Geithner. Obama — or rather, the bankers who own Obama — has devised something called a “Financial Services Oversight Council” to be chaired by the bankster dominated Treasury Department. This uber-council would call the shots for every financial firm in the country and supposedly refer “emerging risks to the attention of regulators with the authority to respond,” even as Obama plans to call for the U.S. Office of Thrift Supervision to close under the direction of the Federal Reserve. Instead of independent bank regulators, Obama proposes a “National Bank Supervisor” who would have “separate status within Treasury and be led by a single executive,” according to Clusterstock. The NBS czar would occupy a centralized post in enemy territory and “take over the prudential responsibilities of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, which currently charters and supervises nationally chartered banks and federal branches and agencies of foreign banks.” Next up, Obama tells us he wants to create a Consumer Financial Protection Agency, a laughable proposal if it wasn’t so criminally dishonest. It would be charged with protecting consumers of credit, savings, payment and financial products and services, or so we are expected to believe. It will be another government behemoth beholden to the same financial elite that has so far ransacked the nation to the tune of trillions of dollars. “The CFPA will be a massive new agency that will impact everyone in the United States in some form,” writes Andrew Busch, a markets strategist at BMO Capital Markets in Chicago. “Providing this much power to one agency is truly frightening as they will get to set the rules and pick the winners/losers for the financial sector.” You know, the same “winners” now ruling the roost. Then there is the Office of National Insurance, also to set up camp in the Treasury. It will allegedly improve and broaden the regulation of insurance companies and affiliates on a consolidated basis, including affiliates outside the traditional insurance business, and will offer consistent consumer protection for insurance products and practices. The excuse for this one is the failure of AIG. On September 16, 2008, AIG suffered a liquidity crisis following the downgrade of its credit rating. It needed a $85 billion credit infusion from the money out of thin air folks over at the Federal Reserve. The Fed basically ended up owning AIG and its boatload of toxic debt. If you check the Federal Reserve Act, you will see there is nothing in there about the ability to buy up insurance companies. But then, since the Fed is not actually a part of the U.S. government and is a private banking corporation owned by a consortium of private banks, it is not beholden to no stinking act passed in the dead of night during a Christmas recess way back in 1913. •It wasn’t insurance losses that nearly toppled AIG — it was the actions of secretive unit that caused more than $18 billion in losses for the world’s largest insurance company. AIG Financial Products was run like a hedge fund out of London and Wilton, Connecticut, and specialized in derivatives masquerading as “financial products.” Do you think the Treasury, run by little Timmy Geithner — who was president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, worked for the master criminals Robert Rubin and Lawrence Summers, spent time at the CFR and learned a trick or two under the direction of Herr Kissinger and Associates — will “regulate” derivatives pretending to be “financial products” for insurance customers? Please. Wall Street and its international offshore banker overlords are addicted to derivatives. “These derivatives now amount to a total worldwide notional value that can be estimated between 1 quadrillion and two quadrillion US dollars. This sum is so large that it dwarfs the total value of the entire planet earth and all those who live here,” notes Webster G. Tarpley. If you think Obama and crew plan to do something about this massive black hole, I have a bridge to sell you on Krypton. Obama’s “Financial Regulatory Reform Plan” is but another bankster scam. It is an obvious plan to grab up more industries and goodies under the guise of “regulation” and (ack) “consumer protection.” So contemptuous of you and your family are the bankers they don’t even attempt to make this threadbare nonsense plausible. It is thievery right out in the open. Our only hope at this point is the Federal Reserve Transparency Act, HR 1207, now up to 232 co-sponsors. It needs a two-thirds vote with 290 members on board so the bankster tool Obama will not veto it. On that day of its passage there will be a short cry of hosanna — and then we will open the Fed’s books and begin more

Resolved Question: Is this too far-fetched? (I'd like some answers from Koreans living in South Korea please)?

Thank you to those who have helped me so far. But for those who don't know about my situation: I recently found out that a Korean entertainment business that I've always loved, takes people of all races. The entertainment group that I'm interested in, focuses mainly on Black music and I am Black. They say on their website that they look for talent worldwide to expand globally, so I thought that soon could be a good time to try-out. By the time I try-out, I do plan to speak and understand, read and write Korean very well. I'm taking lessons now. I know that South Korea is a homogeneous country, but there has to be some reason that they take all types of races. And I never said I wanted to be a solo artist. If they took me, they'd most likely put me in a group. And I'm not trying to only be in South Korea, I want to be an international superstar. I truly only trust this entertainment group to start me on my way. I've seen their work and the Korean music industry is for me personally, better than the American industry in many ways. But the question still remains: Is my dream too far-fetched? Is it crazy? I want honest opinions, because I want to make sure NOT to get to side-tracked. more

Resolved Question: Is SevenSeasWorldwide's International Shipping Service still reliable?

I need to send books and clothes from Boston to HK by air. I am thinking of using Seven Seas Worldwide. But after reading the following comments, I feel a little bit scary. But I think by-air shipping might be better and will not get my stuffs stuck like that. There are more bad stories when you click the link below. http://www.shipping-international.com/companies/seven-seas-worldwide.html Customer's Reviews: scotwf scotwf@yahoo.com Run from this company like the plague. I shipped my belongings from London back to the US. It took me a year and a half to get my stuff after they lost my paperwork. They never once called or mailed a letter the entire time! I received three email responses only over this time, with PDFs of the paperwork I was somehow supposed to fill out and email back. I had already mailed physical copies to London. Nothing. Nine months later I faxed my paperwork to the "American rep", secured proof and emailed it to them in London demanding acknowledgement of the receipt of my paperwork. Several months later I was informed they had received my paperwork, but I now had to pay SEVERAL HUNDRED ADDITIONAL POUNDS for the "storage" of my belongings over this time. Again, not a single call ever returned, ever. Not a single letter. Only three emails with PDFs that most people can't edit digitally. Over a year and a half. And then my belongings held hostage over additional payment, them knowing I can do nothing from another country except pay. How is this company still in business? more

Resolved Question: What gives the US the right to Boss around North Korea?

What business does the US have? What gives them the right? If I'm point a gun at you and your family, and you reach for your gun to defend yourself, and in doing so you get called an unstable, war-mongering, tyrant, is that reasonable? The recent nuclear test conducted by N. Korea is the 2054th one on the earth. The five permanent members of the UN have conducted 99.99 percent of all the nuclear tests. (China, France, Russia, UK, US) The US is the only country on Earth that has nuked another, does that really make them the trustworthy, peace-keepers, it likes to act like? Those countries have posed the biggest nuclear threats to the world. But they took issue with Korea's first nuclear test, which was conducted in October 2006 as a self-defensive measure to cope with increased nuclear threats by the U.S., terming it a “threat to the international peace” and adopted the sanctions resolution against the Korea. This is exactly the UN Resolution 1718. This resolution fabricated by the hypocrites has immediately invited a total rejection by Korea and they still do not recognize such resolution. If the UN will make further provocative actions, this will inevitably lead to the Korea’s approach towards adopting stronger self-defensive counter-measures. The end of the Cold War worldwide works only between big powers, but a Cold War still persists on the Korean Peninsula. Any hostile act by the UN immediately means the abrogation of the Armistice Agreement. "The world will soon find out how the army and people of North Korea will stand up against the high-handed and get-it-alone approach of the UN in defending its dignity and sovereignty." - North Korea In other words, they're saying fuck you, UN assholes. more

Resolved Question: think before u answer the question?

Jerry Nolan worked at the headquarters of the Worldwide Motorbike Company. His task was to process warranty claims and advises service engineers working in the field with distributors throughout the world. Then Mr. Nolan heard of an opening for a field engineer. As a first step, jerry Nolan approached his immediate superior, Donald Brown, and asked to be considered as a field engineer in Ms. Smith’s department. The idea was rejected with the comment:” Let’s talk about it later”. When Mr. Brown left for a business trip, Jerry approached Jane Smith, the service manager for international operations, who was not only the superior of Brown but was also responsible for the field engineers. During the discussion, Ms. Smith, who favored promoting young talent from within the company, recognized that Jerry Nolan was well qualified for the position of field engineer. Mr. Smith promised to talk to Mr. Brown after his return from the trip. One week later Mr. Brown called Jerry Nolan into his office and opened the conversation as follows: “ I heard that you talked to Mr. Smith while I was out of town, about the position of field engineer. I cannot let you take this position. We just switched to a computerized claim processing system and I need you because you have the broadest experience of any of my seven subordinates”. Jerry was shocked. Should he be denied the promotion because he was the best person in the group? Two weeks later, a field engineer was hired from outside the firm. Jerry Nolan was wondering what he should do next. 1.If you were Jerry Nolan, what would you do? if i was jerry Nolan , I would quit from this company because the manger was not honest with me 2.What do you think about the staffing practices of the company? What policies, if any, would you recommend? 3.What do you think about the managerial behavior of Mr. Brown? his behavior was totally wrong , he should be more direct and he should follow a good managerial methods more

Resolved Question: What is God's sanction & punishment in Daniel's Vision?

Sequel 6. Yesterday, the author Winston Kayanan has briefly proven that the world is misled into believing that reduction on GHG could eradicate global warming since the goal did not conform with basic sciences (biology, chemistry & physics) on nature. Just for a thought, one scientific fact is, at extreme hot conditions, the stomata of plants' leaves stop taking CO2 & stop producing O2 (possible failure of plant forest scheme). Corollary to this, algae from dried wetlands similarly stop taking CO2 & stop producing O2. And in contrast, decay microbes from wastes contribute quadrillions of CO2 per hectare a day worldwide. Unknowingly, this is the primary & ultimate CO2 emitter in defense of billions of CO2 emissions from transportation & industries. As such, earth has a huge imbalance level of O2 for which we will surely experience "temporary loss or shortage of O2". Instead of O2 replenishment as the principal objective of UNEP, GHG reduction could not stop the occurrences of natural disasters. Thoroughly evaluating these phenomena, the common denominator is the lack or absence of O2 to mitigate their violent & deadly behavior. Thus, earth will un-endingly be pounded & trampled by the faults of UNEP in the environment. The consequence of faults (causing destruction & deaths) is naturally punishment and therefore, this will be the FALL OF UN. If only UN opened the door to the author in taking a look at the Philippine technology on 12-02-02, 11-03-03, 01-05-04 and 04-26-04, the overall scenario of history will be different. There won't be new ozone holes, lost of ice shelf, burnt forest, sudden death, deadly tsunami, mounting epidemic, etc. But the treaty was so strong, UN did not bother to restudy its sciences in order to rectify its position and amend the protocol. Instead, UNEP peddled & brokered hardware of emission monitoring gadgets, tsunami warning devices, etc., making earth a frankenstein against forces of nature and maybe, blaming God for such acts. People on the other hand are too naive, having no insight of what is going on. They are so dependent on their leaders and UN for they do not know that they were exploited and had become as guinea pigs. Once people have learned the truth, UN will reach its final limitations. People will begin to account for errors & faults. Tensions and social unrest will follow, expressing intense hate, resentment & bitterness. Persecuted victims (the sick, disabled, dead, displaced & homeless, loss of business & employment leading to bankruptcy & insolvency, etc.) from New Orleans (hurricane), Australia & California (fires), Myanmar (typhoon), Iran (quake), France (sudden death), Indonesia (tsunami), etc., will clamor for justice. In this vein, the 4th beast (ECOSOC) & the small horn (UNEP) will soon receive its fiery shame & humiliation for abuse of confidence, their fate of downfall duly ordained by God while the 3 beasts (International Court, Trusteeship & Security Council) will try to keep standing but will likewise end its existence for a determinate period. The author could have sued UNEP for negligence & dereliction of duty or prejudice & discrimination from 2002 to 2004 but now people can sue UNEP for murder & massacre thru reckless imprudence. God has already completed the list of those who will be saved and Jesus Christ (whom was unfortunately described by the Catholic Church as unknown & mysterious person, making its interpretation in the Bible false) is given the kingship to rule earth. Tomorrow, what will Jesus Christ do at the start of his reign. This was separated by God from Daniel's vision so that no one can decipher the meaning of the prophecy completely. more

After going through some old file in the records department, I discover that there is an account opened in 1997 belonging to the late Mr. Morris Thompson a foreigner and a miner at Kruger Gold Company a geologist by profession and since 2000 nobody has operated the account following Mr. Morris Thompson death in 2000. Mr. Morris Thompson lost his life in the plane crash of Alaska Airlines Flight 261flying to San Francisco and Seattle from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, which crashed into the Pacific Ocean not far from Los Angeles on January 31st 2000, including his wife and his only daughter (Thelma Thompson, and daughter Sheryl Thomps on). After my further investigation I also discovered that Late Mr. Morris Thompson's next of kin was his daughter who died with him. Since then, no other person knows about this account, and the amount involved is US$32 Million (THIRTY TWO MILLION UNITED STATE DOLLARS). I need a trustworthy person in this business because I don't want to make a mistake and I need your strong assurance, trust and reliability. I have the tendency to invest my own share of the money in your country in expectation to a sound management and a good capital returns according to your advice. R more

Resolved Question: Why has another Neo-Con decided to run a quixotic campaign against Ron Paul?

http://www.doyouknowronpaul.com/ This web site is run by Neo-Con Jeff Cherry, the latest person to mount a hopeless campaign to try to get Ron Paul out of Congress. Did you know that Ron Paul (my comments in []s): 1.Wants to get rid of the Federal Reserve and return to the Gold Standard [The Federal Reserve is the cause of the business cycle and a return to Gold would stabilize the economy] 2.Wants to get rid of the Department of Education [yes, Ron Paul wants to do what Ronald Reagan promised to do when he was elected in 1980 because Ron Paul believes education decisions should be made at the state and local levels] 3.Wants to get rid of the IRS [Wouldn't it be great if we could keep ALL of our paycheck?] 4.Voted against and does not support the Patriot Act. [Ron Paul supports civil liberties. What is so bad about that?] 5.Voted against the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act [Last year's FISA provided retroactive immunity for telephone companies that illegally spied upon American citizens.] 6.Wants to bring home all troops from Iraq immediately and shut down U.S. military bases worldwide. [Should we really be wasting money on military bases in countries like Germany?] 7.Wants to pull us out of the United Nations [The UN promotes abortion and gun "control" and its "Human Rights" Commission has repeatedly tried to declare criticism of Islam and other religions a "human rights" violation, reinstating "blasphemy" laws that were abolished at the end of the Middle Ages.] 8.Wants to cut off ALL foreign aid to ALL countries [Why should American taxpayers hand out welfare checks to foreign politicians?] 9.Wants to pull us out of the World Trade Organization [The WTO's main function is to promote higher taxes, so I don't see what the problem is.] 10.Wants to pull out of the World Bank [Should we really be perpetuating poverty in the 3rd World?] 11.Wants to pull out of the International Monetary Fund [Again, should we really be perpetuating poverty in the 3rd World?] 12.Wants to pull out of NATO [What legitimate function does NATO serve these days?] 13.Wants to pull us out of NAFTA [NAFTA is not a genuine free trade agreement. It is actually a means to harmonize regulations between the US, Canada, and Mexico. In particular, NAFTA has caused severe damage to the Mexican economy.] 14.Wants to end the war on drugs and legalize marijuana. [Does it make sense to spend tax dollars locking up 1 million peaceful people because they are addicted to a substance less dangerous than Alcohol? If so, shouldn't we bring back Alcohol Prohibition?] 15.Is opposed to making immunizations for children mandatory. [Wasn't America founded upon personal choice and not upon forcing the values of one group upon another?] 16.Opposes the Food and Drug Administration [The FDA causes unnecessary delays that prevent terminally ill people from getting treatments that may help them.] When will these Neo-Cons learn that they aren't going to defeat Ron Paul? How many more landslide victories does Dr. Paul need to win in his district? Furthermore, notice on his website that he apparently cut-and-pasted the word "marijuana." Apparently, this Neo-Con government school teacher can't even spell "marijuana." more

Resolved Question: If an agreement is turned into a formal contract and one party breaks contractual law, what happens next?

The American government became 80 percent shareholder of the company AIG, which was previously owned by Oppenheimer with financial giants being the majority shareholders. The American government has every right not to pay bonuses to the previous executives of AIG. The American Government has every right to not employ those previous executives of AIG. If the class action suit makes it to the Republican controlled Supreme Court and they find that the Contract entered into with AIG & American Government has been broken and declared null and void. Then AIG executives, along with the previous owners, will be considered by the American People as ripping us of again. The Supreme Court should make the right decision and find in favor of the American Peoples Government. What say ye? more

Resolved Question: can someone summarize this article for me like now?

NEW YORK – TO BE RELEVANT, ART must respond to the choices, changes and challenges of these fluid, turbulent times and help create the conditions necessary to transform society and deal with consequences, where the burning issues of the day become the overriding factor in the pursuit of a meaningful popular culture. All artists are active participants in these current cross cultural dynamics and cannot afford to be left out in the cold or live the solitary, isolated existence under the pretentious mask of artistic indifference. To be catalysts for change, artists need to constantly question their own motives, unfair policies affecting creative freedom and one's role in a society; to continuously evolve and not waste valuable time worrying about their reputation after they’re dead. Much as we respect the choices most artists make for themselves, there’s an underlying need for them to document their own times - the sweeping political changes happening around us; to grapple with the issues as they come and try to create art that amplify and project opportunities for change to a larger audience. The enormous impact of Western popular culture on diverse communities worldwide has reached a point where we cannot afford to allow a handful of privileged few to define its form and content without the active participation of socially committed members of the international Arts community. It’s sad to note that the onslaught of American popular culture has marginalized, if not totally wiped out, indigenous cultures in many parts of the world. Poor, underdeveloped countries with rich cultural heritage have been 'touched' by the magic wand of Hollywood and are fighting back its negative impact on their traditional way of life. Cultural amnesia- the loss of traditional values, oral history and indigenous art forms, have now become more prevalent than in the past as more and more ethnic communities are quick to adapt what they see on the screen as 'progress' and accept it to be far better than what they have had for centuries. I hope the scheduled conference on social theory, on politics and the arts would address these concerns to be able to institute necessary changes to safeguard the integrity of indigenous communities. The upcoming 33rd Conference on Social Theory, Politics and the Arts is a continuing dialogue by participants drawn not only from artists in the visual, performing, written and multi media arts but also from a broad range of disciplines that include sociology, political science, management, economics, law, urban planning and policy studies. Hosted by The New York foundation for the Arts, The Arts Council of Manhattan, the NYU Roberts Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and the Research Center for Leadership in Action, this year's conference aims "to explore new trends, practices and public policy issues affecting and shaping the arts around the world." Last March, I had the privilege of taking part in an art exhibition at a Chelsea gallery in NYC and was glad to see quite a number of artworks that explored the political realities of American life, skillfully calculated to question and disturb viewers from their private complacency. There is no question that the New York art scene has been regarded as the crystal ball of new things to come; unfortunately, the current crop of art pieces had nothing much to say and even failed miserably to amuse. Despite living in the shadows of 9/11, political art in NYC is still groping in the dark ages, seemingly destined to be graffiti outside gallery walls. Quite a number of NY-based artists I’ve met, whose works revolve around the current political debates, lament that most art galleries won't dare touch 'political art' with the proverbial ten feet pole. Art galleries are primarily business driven and understandably more concerned with their return of investments. Unfortunately some even expound that myth that artists should stay away and be apolitical, to paint only decorative, 'saleable' pieces that would go well in upscale condo units. What gets hanged or not hanged in galleries have a great impact on popular culture and most galleries would cringe at anything resembling 'breaking news' from war zones. But for most artists to continue doing what they’re good at, they have to live on their art. But since the market for political art, if one has to survive on it, is not much, this could initially discourage some artists from investing much of their creative time on it. Hopefully gallery owners would realize that political art has its niche in our lives. In contrast is the swelling tide of books on current political debates. I can't help but envy those writers and publishing houses that dare focus their efforts and resources to bring about the truth regardless of consequences. Whistleblowers, anti-war groups, civil disobedience advocates and environmental activist are all having a field day. These writers have successfully rammed their political views more
