Ah, sun, sand, and arguing over the damn PDA

As McLean Mashingaidze-Greaves, a Toronto based new-media entrepreneur and long-term heavy PDA user admitted to me (via his BlackBerry): "While it's great to have the Internet in your pocket, it's socially regressive in some ways. Like a lot of people, I sometimes use the device to avoid talking to people and to manage boredom."

There's no consensus among experts about whether being continuously, though partly, engaged is a good or a bad thing.

Ray Kurzweil, an American futurist and inventor - who created a popular music synthesizer in the eighties, the first "reading machines" to translate text into speech, and the first flat-bed scanners - reminded me of the importance of choice when it comes to our communication devices.

"I don't believe that being online all the time increases stress. more

Green lawns have to come with common sense

The advertising industry is powerful and persuasive. People want to do their part in making their neighborhood look good. We are convinced that a uniform, green lawn must sit in front of our houses.

Keep in mind that you are exposed to this advertising because someone wants to sell you something. Corporations want to sell chemicals, or a service that will apply chemicals. To do this, they must convince you that maintaining a uniform, green lawn is practically a civic duty.

Let's consider what's being sprayed on your lawn. "Cosmetic pesticides are chemical or biological substances used to destroy living things such as insects, plants and fungi for the purpose of enhancing the appearance of a lawn or garden."

Councilors eye Bremenfest

The village will soon begin to advertise for the festival, which will take place Aug. 15-17, New Bremen Mayor Jeff Pape said. The councilors also approved the liquor license permit for the festival.Pape also brought up the idea of having fireworks the Sunday of Bremenfest as a way to celebrate the village’s 175th anniversary. The mayor said a third of the cost would come from the parks division and the rest from the Bremenfest Committee and a party that Pape wouldn’t name until they were fully committed. Pape said he met with the groups Monday night to decide where the fireworks would launch and the division of the cost — $3,000 each, totaling $9,000."I promised the chief (Fire Chief Bob Kuck) it wouldn’t be an annual thing," Pape said, adding that Kuck had been against the fireworks in the beginning. The parks division spending had to be approved by councilors because it would be spending money it didn’t budget for, said Village Solicitor Steve Smith. more

“The bike is just gorgeous," said Park.

Hardiman said raffle tickets cost $50 and there are 199 tickets. Proceeds will benefit the Avon Firefighters Relief Fund and the Jimmy Fund, he said.

International Business Relations Questions asked

Open Question: Should I train to be an astronomer or a diplomat (and other life issues)?

I'm stuck between the two. I'm 16 and a high school sophomore so I want to start taking steps toward getting to my future career. I'm already thinking about colleges and everything, but I need to have ideas on what majors I'd need to take. They're total opposites so I just dont know what to do! Also please give me ideas what I can do now, so that I'd look good when applying for colleges and stuff. Please reccommend things, like good colleges for these courses, what clubs in high school I should do, etc. I'm mostly interested in going to college in the Northeast of America, or in Europe (UK, Spain, France, etc). If I do something with international relations I'd really want to go to Oxford University.. thats like my dream place to go. But I really need to pump up my grades. This year, I had a fallout for the first semester. Like those are the worst grades I've ever had in my life. I procrastinated too much.. my mindset just wasnt right. I couldnt pull off all-nighters anymore. I think the problem was always there, but it just got worse to a point where it drastically affected my grades. My family just moved to a new town, from NJ to Texas. I've never been to the south.. so its all new. We literally just moved 2 months ago, cause my dad has a business here. I feel homesick already, but Im taking this as a new chance to fix everything. I feel embarrassed of how I wasted that last semester but Im an optimistic person.. and I know I cant change the past so I have to focus all my energy on doing my best in the future. I mean Im very smart.. I know I can get top grades if I just was working right. Anyways, I hope if I can get grades 95+ from now on, colleges would be able to forgive me if I can show them that I turned my life around and am now a much better person. The pros with taking Astronomy is that I've always been interested in Astronomy.. it just seems very fascinating. I just want to know more and more. Like once in the summer I spent like 3 days just researching all this stuff about the universe. The cons are that I'm worried about how much emphasis is put into mathematics for the career. Like I've seen some equations and its like... woah, overload! How do people come up with that stuff? I mean I like math cause I like classes Im good at (except Geometry... Im amazing at Algebra, but fail at Geometry.) and its cool when you get something right.. but ehh.. I mean it also feels horrible when you don't understand things and get answers wrong.. so idk. that seems stressful. Also its uncertain.. you could spend all this time searching for something and then not find it! And sometimes things just seem scary after a while. The pros with doing a sort of International Relations thing are that I love traveling (I've lived in England -> Cameroon -> New Jersey, US -> now Texas, US. It was all coincidental though, not really planned by parents like "I love England, lets move there!"), am very interested in international affairs, cultures, politics, etc and have a will to solve problems and help people! I'm interested in philosophy and the sort.. like if I were to go to Oxford (is that even still possible, even with my 1st semester fallout?) I'd want to take their Philosophy, Politics, and Economics course. I want to be a UK diplomat, not a US one, no offense. Like ever since the Obama election I've been very interested in the news.. I like to be in the know. Like when I come home from school instead of watching TV shows and stuff I usually go straight to like CNN or something like that. The cons would be putting myself in danger in some forlorn country.. and I wonder how longterm relationships would work out with all the traveling. And the availability for me to visit my large family when I could be so far away. Also, would I have to lie about certain things just to protect my country's interest? Or do something that I know is wrong, but have to do anyways? Like lawyers who know their client did the crime, but have to prove they didn't anyways, or they can't release the information... ehh. And I speak English, and can get along with Spanish but I'm no expert. Im also planning on learning French. What other languages do you think could be helpful? Japanese? Arabic? Portuguese? Chinese? Swedish? IDK! Im also planning on learning a native Cameroonian language of the area my parents lived, but i dont know how that would be useful towards being a diplomat since there are so many languages in Africa, its not like I could go to someplace else in Camerooon and use the same language and they'd understand. Please give me advice in anyway you can, if you can solve any or all of my problems. Also, do you think I still have a chance at getting in great colleges (ex. Oxford) if I do exceptional from now on, to be able to prove to them that I'm now a better person and will not repeat the same mistakes?** I moved to Texas 2 weeks ago, not 2 months. In Dallas, if you want me to be specific. more

Open Question: Help with essay needed?

Hi i wrote an essay and i need to ask someone to check for me my vocabulary and if everythink is ok, if someone want to help plese let me now i will send you my essay. English has become a more and more important language in the world. This is because we need a universal language to communicate with other people when living in the global village. Moreover, English is the international language of diplomacy, business, science, technology, medicine, tourism. The reason most multinational companies ask their employees to speak English is because English is the language most used for world trade at the moment. It is spoken frequently especially in developed countries such as The United States of America and The Republic of China. This is an certain process of globalisation.English is a definitely global language crossing many international outlines. In fact, the English language is so popular,it is spoken in more than a hundred countries and has more than a million words.English has entered high status world-wide because of different factors, as the mother tongue of millions of people all over the world, as the language that millions of children learn at school and the language that is used in international relations, for global communication and as the major media language. The importance of a global language has become major, in some contexts such as communication, e.g. international web-pages on the Internet, English is the only language used. Even though there are many adnantages and disadvantages of having a English as a global languages. First positive aspect is that by learning English, you can get a better job, have a better career but more importantly, keep up-to-date with world events and developments. Another advantage is a great cause of a common language in our world .The changes that have taken place in the world during the last century are colossal. Technological development has made communication and traveling all over the world easily available, and that applies not only to a number of special citizens of society, but to everyone from high to low. With a simple “click” on the computer one can quickly meet and communicate with a person from another continent. Furthermore, international cooperation in business activities on a state level, as well as on a company level, has never been as popular and intense as it is today. Today, the number of international organizations cooperating in globe from health care and humanitarian aid to technological development and business is constantly increasing. In our modern way of communication and cooperation an international language has become a necessity. Secondly Crystal said that the “more a community is linguistically mixed; the less it can rely on individuals to ensure communication between different groups” (Crystal 2003 p.11). Consequently linguistically mixed communities, as well as the global community, are spending large sums of money on translations and translation in order to reach its citizens. A global language known and spoken by everybody would easily lower these costs, and the spared money could be used in other important areas instead, for example in humanitarian aid. Many international organizations find it necessary that all people involved speak English, since the translation expenses would be too high. According to Crystal half the budget of an international organization could easily get swallowed up in translation costs if there was a lack of a common language (Crystal 2003 p.12). There are also a number of disadvantages One disadvantage of English as a global language Acording to Crystal (2003 p.14-15) is that A global language might cultivate an elite class with native speakers, who take advantage of the possibility to think and work quickly in their mother-tongue. If this was the case they might manipulate it to their advantage at the expense of those who has another language as their mother-tongue and in this way create a linguistic gap between people. Another point against the global dominance of the English language is bad news for world literature, according to Jacques Mélitz(1999) Because if the English language dominates world publishing, very few translations except those from English to other languages will be commercially viable. As a result, virtually only those writing in English will have a chance of reaching a world audience and achieving ‘classic status’. A final argument against English as a global language, is the risk of linguistic convenience. Davis Crystal claims that the attitude of “the archetypal British or American tourist who travels the world assuming that everyone speaks English, and that it is somehow the fault of the local people if they do not” (Crystal 2003 p.17) is a typical sign of linguistic complacency. The presence and expansion of English as a global language has served as a reason behind the lack of motivation among English speaking people to learn forei more

I have done a Bachelor of Arts in Languages. Now that im finished I feel super under-qualified, and wanted to add something that would make me more employable. I had initially thought id just do a Bachelor of Commerce even though its not so interesting- just because this is where the jobs are at. Resolved Question: Is a master's in international relations/mass communication worth taking out 50 K in loans to pursue?

I graduated from college about a year ago now (Spring 2009), and I haven't had any luck landing jobs. I had a BA in communications with a minor in international business. I had a good GPA, did two internships, studied abroad, and held a variety of leadership roles for my university. Unfortunately, I haven't had any luck landing a professional entry level job. I've been accepted into a few graduate schools concentrating in mass communication and international relations. I definately want to pursue graduate school, and I think a master's degree will open up some more opportunities. However I don't want to waste 2 more years, and take out more loans to be in the same boat, but I just don't see any other options. Should I go for it and take out the loans to do it?? more

Resolved Question: When will organized labor realize that democrats are taking their money and votes and running?

Instead of blaming republican obstructionists during a democratic majority in Washington DC? (AP) WASHINGTON - Labor’s high hopes for major gains under President Barack Obama and a Democratic Congress have dimmed, raising fresh doubts about union leverage even in the best of political times. Prospects for a health overhaul have faded. Even slimmer are the chances of achieving labor’s chief goal, passage of a bill making it easier for unions to organize workers. A bipartisan jobs bill passed this week by the Senate drew tepid praise from the AFL-CIO president, Richard Trumka, who called it a "Band-Aid on an amputated limb" _ far short of what unions wanted. This wasn’t what unions expected a year ago after spending more than $400 million to help elect Obama and increase the size of Democratic majorities in the Senate and House. Leaders of labor’s largest federation will try to figure out how to refocus their political agenda when they begin their annual meeting in Orlando, Fla., on Monday. Another setback came in January when two Senate Democrats joined Republicans in blocking the appointment of labor lawyer Craig Becker to the National Labor Relations Board. Becker has worked for the AFL-CIO and Service Employees International Union (SEIU). Republicans have said they fear Becker would push the board to require companies to recognize unions if they can get a simple majority of employees to sign union cards _ the same "card check" measure that’s stalled in Congress. Labor leaders were counting on Obama put Becker in the post when Congress was out of session. They were disappointed when Obama said he wouldn’t do it anytime soon. "Enough is enough," Trumka said in an e-mail to labor activists. He urged union members to call the White House and "demand that President Obama fight Republican obstructionism" on Becker’s nomination. Some labor experts say unions have come up flat in mounting an effective liberal response to "tea party" activists who helped Republican Scott Brown win the special Senate election in Washington to succeed Democrat Edward M. Kennedy, who died last year. An AFL-CIO poll showed that 49 percent of union households supported Brown. "There’s been no indication that there’s muscle behind their money," said Leon Fink, a labor historian at the University of Illinois at Chicago. "There was no equivalent mobilization for public works or for a progressive health care measure." Even more troubling for unions, their membership in the private sector fell 10 percent during Obama’s first year in office to a historic low of 7.2 percent. A poll this past week from the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press found that 41 percent of those surveyed have a favorable view of unions, compared with 58 percent in a similar survey in 2007. http://kstp.com/business/stories/S1439269.shtml?cat=1 more

Resolved Question: What job is for me? What should I major in?

I am currently in high school and as college is quickly approaching, I am considering all majors to go into. I am a bright student and let me tell you briefly about my academics: 4.7 GPA (about) "Gifted Program" (GIEP) 250+ Community service hours per year (Trying for 300+) Advanced placement courses. In the top one percent of my grade. Personality, hobbies: Tennis player, USTA 3.5 rating, hope to be 4.0 when I graduate. Like to help people. Nothing in the medicine field, I hate blood and the human body, etc. Best in my math class, took 11th grade math courses in 9th grade. Outstanding leadership skills, etc. My gifted teacher thinks I should major in Public Policy at Cornell and then get an MBA at Wharton Acadamy (School) of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and go into Corporate Real Estate Development. I'm not sure if that's what I'm into though. I'm really artsy but I don't want to be an artist (I'm not that good), like arcitecture, job MUST require traveling to different cities, etc, salary about $100k starting, nearing $150k-$200k at peak. I do not know about maybe some type of international relations manager? I also like politics, not really law but I'm really good on the mock trial team and on the HS Speech League (forensics). So does anyone have any suggestions for me? Thanks, and If you have any ?s, I'll try to post additional details for you all. Thank you and have a great evening! -Ethan more

Resolved Question: Is the world a dark place??? PLZ help?

Dear all, I am really lost, and I need your help... I am only 25 years old, and I am very ambitious.. I have graduated from Business School, and I am currently working in a huge corporation where I make a lot of money, but it's not my dream. I have always wanted to make positive change, work somewhere where I can make a difference everyday by going to work.. So I hate working for such private profit oriented company. I am planning to quit and pursue a career in International Relations.. but I am scared... Let me tell you why, first because many people who work in the UN had told me that it's the same everyone, and that there is corruption everywhere and it is not going to be different... Second, I am in a relationship with this wondefull guy.. I think he's the one.. I'm crazy about him and I'm going to have to go abroad to study and follow my dream.. I dont know if we can survive a distant relationship.. SO I have a question for all of you... Do dreams come true? Can we really make a difference..??? I am very very ambitious and I have so many goals.. but I am starting to think..... What if I become a bit less ambitious, and maybe get married, and have kids like normal people..?? What do you think? Love vs. Career? Reality vs. Dreams? Money vs. Making a difference? more

Resolved Question: Difference between the international majors?

I'm half way through my junior year in high school and naturally, I've been receiving a lot of college mail. So I've been thinking of what I want to study in college and where I want to go. I already decided I want to minor in Spanish, but the more letters I look at I've noticed three majors that sound almost the same. What's the difference between International Business, International Relations, and International Studies? I can't really tell what the difference between them are. Could someone tell me what I would be studying in each of these, what kind of jobs I would have after graduating, and which colleges are best for these majors? Thank you. =) more

I will soon finish my first year working (as a freshman intern within the legal department) at the ACLU of Texas. My sophomore year might consist of me being an RA at my college dormitory and also a summer internship in the Texas Governor's Fellowship Program. My GPA isn't that great but will sure balance out in 2-3 semesters to be deemed overall "competitive." I have big entrepreneurial spirit, a passion for excellence, a commercial mindset, and enjoy global commerce. My junior-year summer, I want to intern at Goldman Sachs in their Services Division, particularly in Corporate Services & Real Estate. What does Goldman Sachs desire in prospects for the Services division? It's not like I'm applying for an internship in the I-Banking or Securities divisions... I have about two years to work EXTREMELY hard to boost up my resume, GPA, leadership, and image in general. Is there anything I should particularly focus to achieve this? I am willing to go out of my way and work hard to make this become a reality. more

Resolved Question: If I took international relations at college in Canada would I be able to get a job in Hong kong, or Taiwan?

Remember that college in canada is not university. I would receive a diploma, not a degree. Also, I am a Caucasian male that can speak a decent amount of Mandarin (if that makes a difference) Would there be a better major to take rather than international relations? I'm trying to stay on the business side of things rather than the tourism sidefling: Legally i cant get into these countries without a degree. I dont want to do it in a way that could get me in trouble anymore. I want ot settle down there and gt old.But I would like to hear you suggestions. more

Resolved Question: Can you correct my English paper?

Can you please correct my English paper? Add or delete words. Thanks in advance. Your assignment to Kansai, Japan, as office manager of our International Business Relations Department. That’s cause for celebration! This is to inform you that although I’m a little late in responding to your request, I do have some experiences and advice that may interest you. When I was on assignment in connection with our firm in Japan. My job was to help us break into the construction business. I found it very difficult to locate a Japanese construction firm. That would act as a subcontractor for us. In time, I did find a company and eventually we began to win contracts. In spite of the fact that the process was slow and frustrating. Despite the slow pace of qualifying for and winning contracts. I am optimistic with regard to expanding our business in Asian countries. In my opinion, an important contributing factor in our successful entrance in Pacific Rim markets is how willing we are to play the game according to Asian rules. In the event that we are willing to work from the inside and show our long-term commitment. I am positively certain that we can succeed in gaining a great majority of Asia’s construction business in the near future. On a personal level, Marcia, there are a few things that really helped me in communicating with the Japanese. I learned to smile a lot due to the fact that a smile is perfectly clear to everyone. I also learned to listen with interrupting, and I learned to accept blame each and every time a communication misunderstanding occurred. Due to the fact that you are in all probability midway between assignments. This message may take a while to catch up with you. Regardless, I congratulate you on this promotion, Marcia. It is the consensus of opinion in our office that you will be very successful in managing our Kansai office in Japan. more

Voting Question: Expensive dream school or affordable state school?

My dream school has been DePaul University in Chicago all through high school. I've been accepted and everything is great BUT the only problem is the overall cost: around $40,000. I've also been accepted into Illinois State University which is basically half the price of DePaul. And I'm in the running for a $20,000 scholarship to ISU. If I choose to go to DePaul, I will have to get a student loan. My parents keep encouraging me to go to ISU because all my siblings came out of college without debt plus they think something terrible will happen to me if I go to school in Chicago. But I know where I want to be and it's not at ISU. And, something terrible could happen at ISU too. My major is still up in the air between international business, a foreign language, public relations, or achieving a masters in criminal psychology. Would going into debt be worth it?Thank you all! College decisions are very stressful. And no, I don't trust a bunch of people on the internet to make this decision. But any sort of feedback on this is useful :) more

Resolved Question: Should I just run away from it all?

Caution, this is a rant: I'm 22 years old in my last semester of college. I just want to be done already. I'm studying Business and International Relations which don't really have an interest in..I guess I did at one time..but not really anymore. I don't really want to do anything and i don't really have a direction in my life. I'm thinking that when I graduate in May, I should move somewhere far far away. I signed a lease with a friend last month. Last week, her boyfriend basically moved in for an unknown period of time. He quit his job and does have some upcoming interviews. So it's not like he's not trying to get another job. Her bf ate some of my stuff..but then went out to the grocery store and got me replacement food. So he is trying to not get on my bad side. He does attempt to clean up after himself even though his stuff is in the common area and bathroom. I didn't sign up for living with him. I have to constantly hear them bicker and I basically stay in my room. I'm fed up with the snow, my living situation and school. more

Resolved Question: International business – German or Russian?

I’m majoring in international business. I’m fluent in English, Spanish and Polish, learning French and looking for another language to learn to expand my qualifications. Upon graduation I’m planning to focus on relations between Europe and the Americas (unfortunately, I haven’t decided on the industry yet). Which language would be more beneficial for me in this situation, German or Russian? Never say never, but for now I’m not planning to go more to the East beyond Russia, so Mandarin, Japanese and such are probably not a good choice for me. German might be a good one in case it later occurs to me to start learning Dutch or one of the Scandinavian languages, Russian on the other hand may be easier for me, as my native language is Polish and they are in fact quite similar. The question is, which of the two, German or Russian (or maybe some other European language) will be the best choice for me? more

Resolved Question: Should I take an entry level job at an advertising firm or pursue a master's in college student affairs?

I graduated from college in May 2009 with a bachelor's degree in business marketing with a minor in international relations. While in college I was in a sorority and had the opportunity to work in the admissions office. I was involved in a lot of student activities, studied abroad, and did a few internships. I haven't had any luck landing jobs in my field. I moved back in with my parents and have been working in retail until something comes up. I was recently accepted into graduate school for a master's degree in college student affairs, but I also interviewed for a full-time entry level job at a global advertising firm. I am very unsure of what direction to take, and just wanted to get some input about each direction. I definately enjoyed the college experience, and I think it would be neat to work at a college, but it is all I've known. I like learning, and the college environment. Part of me thinks that I might just be attracted to it because it's all I've known. However advertising/marketing is what I went to school for, but since I haven't worked in it, I'm not sure direction I can take with it. There's a lot that I want to do in my life, but I'm not sure what my end goal is. I feel like I'll figure out what my "dream" is as I go, but I need to start somewhere. I'm also unsure if it would be unwise to turn down a full-time to pursue grad school. I know I'd like to get a master's degree someday for sure and work on the international level but just not sure what direction. Suggestions? more

Resolved Question: Will secular Turkey and Albania ever become the full-fledged and equal members of the secular European Union?

I mean both the parties are secular, then why are the hurdles being created for Turkey and Albania to join the secular EU? All 27 members have veto power on deciding whether Turkey should join or not. It means Turkey will have to have good relations with every single secular EU member but neighboring Greece creates problems for Turkey all the time and it'll definitely veto Turkey's entry into the secular Union. Turkish economy is larger than many current secular EU members. Turkey scrapped the death penalty, a must condition to join secular EU. It is liberal toward homosexuals. In fact Christian Greece doesn't allow homosexuals to join some ranks in the army. So if intolerant Greece can be a member then why not Turkey? Or the problem is something else? Albania was one of the fastest growing country in Europe in 2009. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albania#Economy an excerpt "Still, Albania has shown potential for economic growth, as more and more businesses relocate there and consumer goods are becoming available from emerging market traders as part of the current massive global cost-cutting exercise. Albania and Cyprus are the only countries in Europe that recorded economic growth in the first quarter of 2009. In its latest report, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said Albania and Cyprus recorded increases of 0.4% and 0.3%, respectively." So if Cyprus can be a member then why not Albania? Or the problem is something else? Or the problem is something else and these two countries don't fit into THE must condition required to join the truly secular EU? May be the Philippines and East Timor can apply for membership according to THE must required condition. more

"Apart from currently studying law, I have been involved in attending criminal and civil courts in the UK and drafting reports about them. I have also drafted the code of conduct sheet for a society that I setup during my time at University which gave me the experience of doing some legal work – so I have good analytical skills. I am an ardent and keen learner and have a great deal of groupwork experience and believe in team ethics. I am new to the field of law so any experience will be much appreciated and taken on board. Commerical law and Contract Law are two areas of law I am greatly interested in so any work related to that would be of benefit to me. Please refer to my Cover Letter for more information." Resolved Question: Career Crisis! HELP!!?

Well, I suppose some helpful background information would be that I am currently a college freshman majoring in Psychology. This is my second semester in school, and already I feel that psychology is more of an interest than something I'd enjoy having a lifelong career in. Which brings me to my point: I've lately become interested in being either a Management Consultant or an Entertainment Agent. Both deal with travel, which is a major bonus for me, and largely in communication. And, as they both deal with the marketing side of business, it would make sense to major in Marketing. I will be transferring to Texas Tech in a year and enroll in their business college to pursue this degree. Before I hear back from the advisor I emailed, I would like to know if double minoring in International Relations and Communication would be beneficial to these career choices or just simply a waste of time. Thank you! P.S. Would psychology be helpful as a minor, too? Just curious. It is still an interest, after all, but I think I'll survive without it if it's just ridiculous. more

Resolved Question: If for 1 week you were given unlimited, unchecked ruling power over the USA and the changes you made...?

were permanent; what would you change? Here are a few of mine: Do away with income tax and set up a flat sales tax (we will actually get more money because people who don't pay income tax will still have to buy things) Set up time limits on welfare and other government programs for those who are capable of working (no longer than 2 years, most people can fnd a job within that time). Even if on assistance make it manadatory to do so many hours of community service that way we are not just paying these people to sit around and watch tv. Keep Social Security but make it independent from the general fund and only give it to people who paid into it. (no more free rides to aliens, legal or otherwise, who come over at the age to draw it) Change the justice system to where the punishment fits the crime and make prisons a miserable place to be instead of club mead-no cable tv, no weight room, make all criminals work from sun up to sun down (we have to work why shouldn't they) Strictly enforce border laws and deport all who didn't come here legally. Do away with political correctness. All people should be able to speak their minds without the fear of someone yelling racism every 5 seconds when none exist. Political correctness was invented so one section of the population could guilt/harrass another section into silence and compliance. Give the states back their power and shrink the federal government to where they only ran international relations, the military and handled national disasters. Repeal laws that give international agencies power over our own government. Raise import taxes on finished products and reduce them on raw materials. Give incentives to businesses who remain in the USA and penalize those who move overseas. To the person who disagreed with the import taxes part...it would not hurt us as we are the largest consumer. plus it would make or products more competitive on the world market. more

Resolved Question: What Is Holistic Health?

Webster's Third International Dictionary defines "holistic" as "emphasizing the organic or function relation between parts and wholes, rather than atomistic approach." In relation to health this means recognizing that all disease processes involve the whole person. Within the physical dimension, disease in one system of the body effects the other systems. Similarly, imbalance in any one dimension of existence-physical, mental, spiritual or social-affects the other dimensions. "This is Wholism: living each moment and experience to the hilt, with full mind awareness, spiritual awareness; letting oneself be washed and cleansed by the pure stream of thankfulness and appreciation" ( Frank Atkinson). Health is balance of all aspects of your being-physical, mental, social and spiritual. When it comes to balancing your own health, you always let someone else do it. You can manage and balance your own household, you do fine in your own business, you manage and balance your your checkbook, but when it comes to balancing your health, you quit. Why? Because you shy away from the work it takes to balance your body chemistry. When it comes to your own thinking and emotions you quit and go to a psychiatrist, counselor, your minister, your friends, the card reader, the palm reader, the tea leaf reader or the crystal ball gazer when you yourself could do a much better job. Of course, you need tools to do so and that's my purpose on yahoo answer(alt med) to help give you reliable Info so you will have those tools to help. The daring is yours, the work is yours, the determination is yours, but God is with those who help themselves and the Lord is with you. What's your purpose? more

According to the UCAS Track system, all of my choices have received my application. I obviously don't expect to hear back from them any time particularly soon, but I'd certainly like to know an approximation as to when a decision will be made. Anthropology isn't nearly as popular a course as, say, business or international relations, so I'd expect that it wouldn't take TOO long to hear back, right?ishk3leo: These schools are in the United Kingdom. Resolved Question: What are the requirements for admissions into an MBA program? =)?

I want to make sure I get as many of the qualifications done in time to apply for grad school. some facts: -undergrad junior with associate degrees -international relations major(BA)(2012) -communication major(BA)(2012)(likely to graduate with 3.5-3.7 for both) -freelance makeup artist -online business -community service (centered around international & youth issues) ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS: 1) i am a non business major and i would prefer to go directly into a program after i graduate. i heard that some schools require that you have work experience after bachelors? or does my time working at a bank during undergrad count? 2) for my major the highest i had to take was statistics, macro & micro economics. i am assuming i should take calculus before applying? any other class suggestions? 3) so i need a good gpa, gmat score & business experience for admissions? thank you for helping me out (in advance)! more

Resolved Question: What is the best opportunity: College Admissions, Global PR/Marketing, Grad School-don't want to burn bridges?

I graduated in the spring of 2009 with a bachelor's degree in public relations and minor in international relations. While attending college I was able to work in the admissions office, which is also a form of public relations. However my coursework concentrated on pr/business. I would definately like to get a master's degree quickly, especially since I have the drive at this age to do it. I have been interviewing for quite a few jobs both in higher education and with an international pr agency. Working in admissions, I could get a master's for free from the college I work at, and at the agency, they would pay for you the master's degree. However, I already submitted 8 graduate school applications (both for a master's in international communications, and college student affairs), so I am wondering what happens if I get a full ride there. So much to think about.. What is the best job opportunity?? College admissions, a global pr firm, or going straight for a master's?? My problem is I'm not sure what I want to do exactly. I think it'd be fun to work at a college, but I also think I'd enjoy working in international public relations. I know that I want to work on the global level, but working at a college I could grow into international admissions or study abroad. Global PR there is a ton of growth in that too. I know as an end goal I'd like to be a professor of cross cultural relations. More than anything though, I just want to get out of the state that I live in. Most of the opportunities that I've been offered are in the state... Suggestions? What is the best route to take with this economy? more
