Business Leaders Highlight Community Colleges as a Crucial Component to American Competitiveness

Business Roundtable today will convene CEOs, Members of Congress and leaders of community colleges to focus on the critical role community colleges must play in enhancing American competitiveness. Their role, from improving worker training to tapping and shaping the next generation of talent, is even more an imperative in today's fragile and competitive economy.

The roundtable discussion will center on Business Roundtable's initiative, AMERICA 21, which focuses on the policies needed to help U.S. workers better compete and succeed in the international economy. David Wessel, economics editor at The Wall Street Journal, will moderate a discussion around an ambitious agenda to grow and strengthen the nation's 1,200 community colleges.

Pakistan - First-ever price peak seen in cotton business history

The first-ever peak was seen in the history of cotton business as supply was tight during the strong demand by the mills, dealers said. The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) official spot rate was unchanged at Rs 3,900, they said. In the ready business, phutti prices gained Rs 25 to Rs 2050-2100 in Punjab and in Sindh prices were down by Rs 25 to Rs 1975-2000, they added.

Approximately, prices of 200 bales from Pakpattan touched the historical level at Rs 4300 due to heightened demand by the spinners. According to the market sources, cotton prices hit the new high due to short supply position and following the fear of rise in shortage in the near future. It is expected that short supply position may cause further rise in the cotton rates, they said.

In the meantime, the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) is going on strike from Wednesday against the imposition of different taxes and charges over the electricity and gas. more

I'm nervous that he won't be stationed in the same state as me. But anyway, love's stronger! However, I was wondering what it was like to be engaged/married to an Air Force man? If I'm on a student visa in the States, can we still get married whenever we want or it'd be considered fraud visa? Also, I want a career as a profesor or in international business but I'm slowly realizing this will be hard to balance since we'll be fully depending on his job. I have recieved a loan offer from a Mr Brown Thomas Thomas (divinehome01@live.com) I called him out said this is a scam and I know your full of s*** this is the letter he sent me back, apparently he takes offense when people say its a scam but I still believe it is. he says there will be no up-front fees that they charge. only I will be responsible for covering the "loan transfer fee" which apparently goes to the "international registration agency" anyways read the letter tell me if you think its a scam?? I felt bad for her, so I convinced her to go home with me. When me and my wife were still married, we used to take internationals home-stay students in our house, so I had these kind of experience. However, I was living in a 1-bedroom apartment by then. I have to admit that dirty thoughts did cross my mind at the time. The girl is very pale and skinny, but she is pretty cute. She told me she was 19. It wasn't before long that I became involved with her. 1 week max. She didn't have a choice. The poor girl couldn't afford to go anywhere and she doesn't want to go back to Poland either. I always have a strong sense of business acumen. I have a friend who has experience launching his own website, so I turned this girl I found into a business venture by launching an "adult" site. The girl was at first really shy, but gradually we managed to crack her and got rid of most of her inhibition. We trained her to be a sexually voracious nymphomaniac and our muse. One of us would hold the video camera to record the scene or take pictures while the other guy takes care of business or use a vibrator or whatever. It becomes a relatively profitable business venture and we didn't tell her that we are making money off her. We invested some money to buy her some new revealing clothes and underwear as well. i have been dating this 40 yr old man for almost 3 months and its getting pretty serious, i have met almost everyone in his family including relatives, been spending nights at his place and him on my place, "i love you" have been said pretty much and he asked me to move in with him but later changed his mind cause he said he wants a long term relationship with me but is afraid that if we move in together so early, it might screw things up between us. Now, i asked him to help me with something, i cant really get a car loan here and need a car, im an international student so i asked him if he can get the loan in his name and i will make the weekly repayments automatically debited from my bank account. he said no cause he would be liable to the loan he said and thats not cool. i asked him if he trust me, he said he does. so my question is... Is there some type of service that can come and live with me to help me out? I can't take care of myself I live a lone and I am 62 yrs old and live with the curtains closed 24/7. I have been on a anti depressant for 18 years and don't have the money to buy it any more. I have lived like this for over a year and a half do to a man that I thought was a good moral person and 6 months into our relationship found out he was here to use my money which he did do.He was always going to pay me back. Now I am broke. He was hiding here from the IRS I found out later. He is the meanest person I have ever met in my life hes a real con artist. To scare me he has broke into my house but I thought if I reported this things would get worst. He has come out to my farm and killed 3 of my animals after dark so I have no proof that he did this but I know deep in my heart it was him. I have no enemies. I called the sheriff each time this happened but they were of no help. I can't handle being so sick any more. The PTS comes from the fact I lost my 3 1/2 year old son to leukemia so every time he killed one of my animals I had to relive this death. I took him to court but lost because I don't have money for an attorney and he does. He and his attorney lied and lied. I am so mental sick from what this person had done to me that I couldn't defend myself. I have called and called Legal Aid but they are so busy I can never get through to anyone. I ended up living in a family violence home and have counseling but can't pull myself out of this black hole. I can't even take care of my own house any more which I used to keep spotless. Only someone that know what it is like to live like this will understand why I can't take care of myself any more. I am paralyzed to do anything to help myself. I once was a happy go lucky person that went out of my way to always help others. I sued this person for the 33K he goes me and won. This is too long of a story but now he has sued me and I am suppose to start making monthly payments of $1,000. per month but I don't have the money any more because of what he did to me. I'm sure this is confessing to any one that is reading this. Just please do the best that you can to help. More than one answer would be so helpful. I can't leave my home because I have two dogs that I love with all of my heart that are 17 years old and in bad health and they need me. I have no family to help me. One of the major goals of the Copenhagen climate summit is another NIEO shakedown: the transfer of hundreds of billions from the industrial West to the Third World to save the planet by, for example, planting green industries in the tristes tropiques. Politically it's an idea of genius, engaging at once every left-wing erogenous zone: rich man's guilt, post-colonial guilt, environmental guilt. But the idea of shaking down the industrial democracies in the name of the environment thrives not just in the refined internationalist precincts of Copenhagen. It thrives on the national scale too. On the day Copenhagen opened, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency claimed jurisdiction over the regulation of carbon emissions by declaring them an "endangerment" to human health. Since we operate an overwhelmingly carbon-based economy, the EPA will be regulating practically everything. No institution that emits more than 250 tons of CO2 a year will fall outside EPA control. This means over a million building complexes, hospitals, plants, schools, businesses and similar enterprises. (The EPA proposes regulating emissions only above 25,000 tons, but it has no such authority.) Not since the creation of the Internal Revenue Service has a federal agency been given more intrusive power over every aspect of economic life. This naked assertion of vast executive power in the name of the environment is the perfect fulfillment of the prediction of Czech President (and economist) Vaclav Klaus that environmentalism is becoming the new socialism, i.e., the totemic ideal in the name of which government seizes the commanding heights of the economy and society. Socialism having failed so spectacularly, the left was adrift until it struck upon a brilliant gambit: metamorphosis from red to green. The cultural elites went straight from the memorial service for socialism to the altar of the environment. The objective is the same: highly centralized power given to the best and the brightest, the new class of experts, managers and technocrats. This time, however, the alleged justification is not abolishing oppression and inequality but saving the planet. Not everyone is pleased with the coming New Carbon-Free International Order. When the Obama administration signaled (in a gesture to Copenhagen) a U.S. commitment to major cuts in carbon emissions, Democratic Sen. Jim Webb wrote the president protesting that he lacks the authority to do so unilaterally. That requires congressional concurrence by legislation or treaty. With the Senate blocking President Obama's cap-and-trade carbon legislation, the EPA coup d'etat served as the administration's loud response to Webb: The hell we can't. With this EPA "endangerment" finding, we can do as we wish with carbon. Either the Senate passes cap-and-trade, or the EPA will impose even more draconian measures: all cap, no trade. Forget for a moment the economic effects of severe carbon chastity. There's the matter of constitutional decency. If you want to revolutionize society — as will drastic carbon regulation and taxation in an energy economy that is 85% carbon-based — you do it through Congress reflecting popular will. Not by administrative fiat of EPA bureaucrats. Congress should not just resist this executive overreaching, but trump it: Amend existing clean air laws and restore their original intent by excluding CO2 from EPA control and reserving that power for Congress and future legislation. Good day fellow philosophers, I strongly consider myself a modern renaissance man...I am very curious person and love learning and trying new things. I have no idea what I really want to do and cannot foresee myself sticking to one career like medicine or law. I am interested in so many things it becomes so damn hard to figure out any direction because I love so many things! I have begrudgingly narrowed by interests school wise (Note-Just for degree purposes) to marketing/sales, liberal arts (international affairs) and communications, but in an ideal world would just minor in 8 different things!!! When I read Obama's book Dreams from My Father, I found him to be quite dodgey on details. He talked about moving to Indonesia when he was 6, and then leaving when he was 10 for Hawaii on the basis of education. But interestingly, Stanley Dunham, his mom worked for Timothy Geithner's dad in Indonesia, on Ford Foundation grants. The cover story is that she was into micro loans to poor people, which in fact, is something the Ford Foundation did. But those years Obama lived in Indonesia, were times of civil war and upheaval. In fact, over a million people died after Suharto overthew the communist Sukarno in a military coup, probably run by the CIA. What do you do when your kind and sweet husband turns out to be still kind and sweet but lazy. My husband hasn't been working for 9 months, I've been the one paying for EVERYTHING. It was ok for a while, but now it's really getting on my nerves. We've only been married 17 months, and he's only worked for a few months of that on and off. It's not even just the fact that he's not working, but also about what he's doing with his time when he's not working. I'm very big on self development, I'm a highly motivated and ambitious person, I do a 9 to 5 IT job and then come home, have a bath, have something to eat and start working on my home business I'm setting up. Obviously I realise that not everyone is the same as me and I don't expect him to be as driven as I am. But he just seems to be lazy, he reads loads of those motivational books, but actually does nothing, once he's read them. When I met him he was an international student, and was obviously restricted in the kind of work he could do and the hours. I really thought that was what was holding him back from getting anywhere and that once we married, he'd be able to get a decent job and we'd share the financial responsibility of running the home. What's actually happened is that he spends a couple of hours a day applying for Security Jobs, which he keeps getting turned down for (which I don't get as he has an SIA license) and office jobs that are way out of his league. I've even asked him if wants me to review his applications for him, he says ok, but then continues applying for jobs, without asking me. Since I've known him, he hasn't learnt one skill, I've tried to encourage him to pick up some of the IT skills I have, but he's not interested. I bought him an Microsoft Office book to help him develop his administrative skills, and that ended up the shelf. He's not a man who's good with his hands either. I don't know what to do, yes he's a lovely and supportive husband, but he lacks drive and ambition and the desire to develop himself. The sad thing is that, that has always been one of the biggest turn offs for me in a man. Day by Day I'm going off him more, I DETEST lazy men. I don't know what to do about this. I don't want my marriage to end, he really is a lovely human being, but we can't go on like this. I resent the fact that I'm carrying all the load. Plus I'm scared that if he's not capable of getting just a basic job, then what hope is there that he'll be a good provider in future. He wants us to have children now, but I'm scared I'm going to be the one who is o carry the financial burden of raising them and a home. Am I being unfair or impatient? She has been having dinners with this 74 year old married man. (He hasn't had a sexual relationship with his wife in years, and he has claimed that his wife would be ok with the situation as long as it wasn't flaunted around her. His wife lives in England and he lives in the states, so does my friend.) Anyway, he doesn't call my friend everyday due a hectic work schedule. He runs some sort of international business. At times he does call to chat, but not on a daily basis. She sometimes feels neglected and wonders if he is honestly interested in getting to know her mind. He only calls to schedule these dinners with her. She hasn't had sex with him, but he has asked her if she'd be interested in that at some point. He has also expressed interest in taking her on trips to Italy, Paris, Spain, and whatnot. He told her he's looking for someone to share the beauty in life with. He'd like it include sex sometimes, and said it could also lead to love. He told her that he is not in love with his wife and would like to fall in love with someone. He has left the nature of their relationship in her hands. She was kind of pushing the friend thing, but he said he can only do that for so long before feelings develop on his side. Is a 40+ year age difference workable? Do you think he cares about what actually comes out of her mouth, or only how she looks while she is saying it? Hello good people of Yahoo Answers :) I have this immensely troublesome situation on my hands right now and it hasn't been letting me think straight for the past day. The problem is that I have a C- in AP Bio. FML I know this sounds immature, but I'm sure my teacher hates me (no joke-maybe because I correct him in class and blurt out stupid stuff). This junior year, I'm taking AP Calculus 1, French 4 HNS, Anatomy, Shakespeare HNS, and AP US History. I have an A in all my subjects, a B in AP US and a C- in AP Bio. I've now been debating dropping out of my AP Bio class into a class like International Business or Astronomy. I've chosen this because my last 2 lab reports my teacher flunked me. I had asked to go to an A students house and write an outline with her. After we did that, I had other A students e-mail me their reports. After checking all of them, and making sure my report was the similar, I submitted my report. On my lab was a big F while on my friends' labs was an A. Finally summing up the courage to talk to my teacher, he gives me a bunch of bullshit as to why I deserved an F. In 2 days, my Mom and I are going to meet with my guidance counselor to discuss my options. Before that, I want to know what other people think. According to the account of descent given in Exodus (ti: 18-21) the fathers of the Prophet Moses and Korah were real brothers. At another place in the Qur'an it has been stated that this man had joined with Pharaoh inspite of being an Israelite and become one of his favourites; so much so that one of the two ring-leaders of opposition to Prophet Moses after Pharaoh was this same Korah: "We sent Moses to Pharaoh and Haman and Korah with Our Signs and a clear authority of appointment, but they said, `He is a sorcerer, a liar'." (Al-Mu'min :23-24). From this it follows that Korah had rebelled against his own people and become a supporter of the hostile forces which were bent upon wiping out the Israelites. On account of this rebellion against his own people he had attained a high place with Pharaoh and the two persons, besides Pharaoh, to whom the Prophet Moses had been sent were Pharaoh's minister, Haman, and this Israelite capitalist, Korah. All other chiefs and couriers were of inferior status, who were not worth mentioning. The same position of Korah has been alluded to in Al' Ankabut: 39. *** In the story related of him in the Bible (Num., ch. 16), there is no mention of this man's wealth. But according to the Jewish traditions, he possessed immense wealth, so much so that three hundred mules were required to Barry the keys of his' treasures. (Jewish Encyclopedia, Vol. VII, p. 556). 'Copenhagen is about to become the successor to Kyoto as the synonym for the U.N.’s plan to control climate change. The 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change will meet in Copenhagen December 7-18. Until this meeting ends, expect to hear a growing number of climate-related horror stories, presented by a wide array of so-called environmentalists, at a rising decibel level that’s sure to drive the sane quite mad.' However, what we most likely will not see is Climatologists confirming any of the fear stories, apart from those who are employed by the U.N. of course. The problem for Obama: he has as much as promised the world that the United States would rejoin the international climate change treaty – regardless of the cost. Apparently, he thought his promise, and his teleprompter would be sufficient to persuade developing nations to join the party. So far, they haven't. His ace-in-the-hole is his "Cap & Trade" bill that he wants signed before the Copenhagen meeting. If he gets his bill, he can tell the developing nations that the U.S. has already done its part, and that he will not sign the Copenhagen agreement unless the developing nations do. Of course, if he doesn't get the Cap & Trade bill before Copenhagen, he may have to develop a new strategy. Notice the absence of any discussion about the validity of climate change science, or the need to control it? Climate change has nothing to do with the negotiations or the meetings, or the treaties. It never has. Climate change is simply an excuse to construct a monstrous international bureaucracy that meets many times each year in exotic venues around the world. Billions of dollars flow into and out of the climate change industry. No one involved in the climate change business wants to hear anything other than a new horror story to put the fear of catastrophe into appropriators. Dissent is worse than a dirty word at these U.N. meetings. The actual meetings where negotiations occur are closed. Mercy be unto anyone caught with a tape recorder or video camera in an area other than a lobby of cafeteria, or when accompanied by a U.N. staff member. Literature may not be distributed unless first approved by the U.N. staff. In fact, ordinary people cannot even get into one of these meetings. Only official delegates of a government, approved representatives of accredited NGOs, or approved press professionals can register. Watch the momentum mount as the December meeting draws closer. Ice caps will melt faster, oceans will rise higher, droughts will be more severe, snow falls will be deeper, ice storms will be slicker, crops will fail more often, men will become impotent, and African pygmies will be recruited by the Boston Celtics – all because of climate change – with the only cure being enslavement by a new Copenhagen Protocol to the Climate Change Treaty. This signing will usher in a new age of Global Governance where signing Nations will hand over their Sovereignty to the long planned for World Government or what many have described as The New World Order. Those detained are asylum seekers, survivors of torture and human trafficking, lawful permanent residents, and the parents of U.S. citizens. Having fled persecution in their own countries, they suffer treatment in the United States that can be as bad as or even worse than what they left behind. Sarah Ignatius, executive director of the Political Asylum/Immigration Representation (PAIR) project in Boston, will describe how the dramatic increase in the use of detention to enforce U.S. immigration laws since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks has led to a number of human rights violations. Similar experiences An investigation by Amnesty International discovered many detainees whose experiences were even worse than Luis’s. One man, who had been tortured and imprisoned for five years in an Albanian concentration camp, was granted asylum and had been living lawfully in the United States for 12 years when he was detained and told he would be deported. He spent four years in detention, fearful he would be tortured again if he was returned. In four years he saw his wife and children, who lived hundreds of miles from his detention center, only four or five times, and he lost his small business. Story after story, verified by Amnesty, tells of treatment that is callous and even cruel. A 34-year-old Mexican mother of three, a legal immigrant, was arrested in front of her 3-year-old autistic son, a U.S. citizen. Unable to speak English, she had no idea why she was being held. After three weeks in detention, desperate with worry about her children and threatened with deportation, she tried to hang herself. Instead of taking her to the hospital, the officers who cut her down handcuffed her and took her to another cell. In researching its 56-page report entitled “Jail Without Justice,” Amnesty found that the conditions under which immigrants are held violate both United States and international standards for the treatment of detainees. International human rights standards also require that detention be used only in exceptional circumstances, that it be justified in each individual case, and that it be subject to judicial review. Yet in the United States immigrants can be detained for months or years without any form of meaningful judicial review of their detention. Detainees lack even the basic rights accorded to those charged with crimes. The overwhelming majority — 84 percent — do not have access to legal assistance, leaving them unable to navigate an adversarial and complex court process.
