Business council a one-man band
ON THE eve of last year's federal election, Kevin Rudd said he had several business figures lined up to join the former Ansett head Sir Rod Eddington on a special council of business advisers for Labor.
Six months later the Government's cabinet of business leaders has just one member: Sir Rod.
The Treasurer, Wayne Swan, said yesterday that Sir Rod was chairman of the advisory council and that he consulted other business advisers informally before providing advice to the Government. However, Mr Swan could not say when there would be other council members.
Just before the election, Mr Rudd said Labor had "a panel of some six or seven individuals who I believe are ready to roll".
Now it is in government, Labor appears to have shelved the council, which was devised during the election campaign to counter Coalition arguments that it was too close to the union movement. more
Small business group cool to tax proposal
"Research shows time and time again that small businesses pay a higher premium for their loan, and their loans are usually secured with personal assets."
The New Brunswick government is reviewing its taxation regime and is expected to table a discussion paper in the coming weeks.

"It was very commercially-based and I got a good understanding of the business as well as getting a good grounding in HR. I don't think you get those opportunities as much now. It was only as the years progressed that I realised how good that grounding was."
Gregory then went on to work at supermarket chain Sainsbury's, where she was to spend the next 13 years in various departments and roles, mainly in training. "I began in head office, as a management skills trainer, so I ran many courses for department managers and deputy managers within the branches."
She then looked after the retail training scheme, and when a northern regional office was opened in her home county of Yorkshire, she took the chance to move back there to become a development manager for the northern region, which involved looking after the recruitment, development and succession planning of the department and deputy managers there. more
Sake takes U.K. wine fest by storm
LONDON (Kyodo) Sake's popularity in Britain and the West appears to be growing dramatically as 149 variants were awarded medals at the International Wine Challenge 2008 that ended Tuesday in London.
As a direct result of the marketing success achieved by the medal-winning sake of 2007, Japanese entries increased sharply in the 2008 competition, up from 228 in the previous year to 313 — 13 of which scored prestigious gold medals. . moreLatest International Business In General News

Voting Question: So, I found out earlier that I'm not going to graduate this Spring, because...?
My adviser informed me that I've yet to meet the Global/International or Historical Awareness course required for my degree. Now before I enrolled for the Spring semester, I met with an adviser (different one) who explained to me what final credits I needed to complte to get my diploma. She did not mention anything about a Global/International or Historical Awareness course. So now, I feel lied to, along with the thought of me being RIPPED OFF for taking an unnessecary course, because at the end of this semester I would've earned, what I thought and was told, my 64 credits for my Associate of Business, but now I'm going to be earning 67 credits due to being mislead by an adviser. The fine print says I needed to take a Global/International or Historical Awareness course and I thought the college advisers were there to help me (like tell me about the fine print and what I needed to do to earn my degree/credits and what not), not mislead and rip me off. Because the way I'm seeing things is that the school I'm attending "hid" this info from me, so that I continue to "invest" money for education, as they know once I'm graduating the odds of me paying for anything towards the school is slim to none. My question is, what should I do about this? Should I bring this to the Dean's/President's attention? Because now I got another fork in the road. I now have to spend my summer taking a class that I thought wasn't needed. I obviously took and paid out of my own pocket for a course I didn't need to take. And I now get my diploma at the end of Summer, instead of at the end of Spring. I'm very upset at my school in general for telling me this now when I'm 7 weeks away from what I thought was going to be my graduation. *Sigh* Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. moreResolved Question: In ontario canada, do salaries vary based on the courses being taught?
For instance would a person teaching grade 12 english get less than grade 12 math teacher? I am a first year student at york university and thinking of becoming a grade 12 English teacher but I need to chose two subjects. What other subjects do you recommend with English? My choices are: Business Studies (Accounting, General, Entrepreneurship, Information & Communication Technology), Classical Studies (Greek or Latin), Computer Studies, Dance, Dramatic Arts, Economics, English, Environmental Science, Family Studies, French as a Second Language, Geography, Health & Physical Education, History, International Language (German, Italian, Spanish), Law, Mathematics, Music – Instrumental, Native Studies, Philosophy, Politics, Religious Education, Science (Biology, Chemistry, General, Physics), Social Sciences – General, Visual Arts. moreResolved Question: How has our life progressed since our Mother’s day?
Today is International Women's Day, but 40 years since the birth of Women's Lib Janet Street Porter has revealed she thinks ‘what's to celebrate?': 'Many young women today have pretty dubious role models: pop stars and models who celebrate conspicuous consumption. But happiness isn't a new handbag or a pair of shoes - it's achieving goals you set yourself. Worrying new statistics show a generation of young mums with no jobs, no money and no partners. And a new survey, commissioned by Channel 4 to celebrate International Women's Day, shows that even in the sophisticated world of the media, females have a long way to go, with men outnumbering women on screen by two to one. In business, less than one in ten board members of the top 350-companies in the UK are female, and less than one in five are MPs - ranking us 66th in the world for women in political life, behind Afghanistan. At the current rate it will take 40 General Elections to achieve parity in Parliament. So I'm not celebrating today.’ So do you agree? Has the quality of your life changed since the day of your mother? moreResolved Question: troubles with Business careers?
I'm sad because I love business but I don't fit in any category. For instance, I would like to invest in real estate looking for cash flow and start my own business I know about marketing, accounting, finance, international business and finance. I'm shy so marketing is not for me...accounting is so boring so is not for me...finance I'm not interested in pension plans or similar stuff so gone....international business I don't think to leave the country so gone....manager I hear there is few job so gone....I want something more general that includes a few subjects for each subject..can you tell me what's my problem? moreResolved Question: motivation. who can check?
guys, i have written a motivation to study at the university. who can check it? i also would like to heard a critics and something what i need to change or add or remove. please, help me. motivation is very important. Dear Sir or Madam, I am Evelina and I come from Latvia and currently I am living in the UK. I graduated from the gymnasium last year. I have heard a lot about Scotland, its culture and traditions. Some of my friends, who study there, have told me many interesting things about this part of England. Having read some articles and heard some reviews from others, I decided that Scotland is the best option for me. Since I love geography and traveling, I would like to be in touch with English culture, its architecture, lifestyle, interesting people, and find myself there. I have always been interested in business, administration and IT. That is why I have chosen Scotland as a place where I can study it. And therefore, this is the best place for me to find myself in this sphere, because I am an enthusiastic, with a love of people and a determination to succeed. I imagine a career which is: fast moving, gives me the opportunity for rapid promotion, is logical and practical, provides the chance to work wherever I want.I have always enjoyed learning about business. I found it fascinating. So it is quite easy for me to talk about my career ambitions (business) and what I want to do (be employed in the field of business and IT). What concerns my traits, I suppose that I am very well prepared for business and administration. To my mind, a business background is an excellent way to a good career. I have took a gap year after school and moved to United Kingdom for understanding myself – what I really want to do in my life, to improve my English skills and gain some work and life experience ,to meet new people as well. When I was at school, I worked as a secretary in the office one of my summer holiday in Czech Republic and I liked that job more rather than my current job (general assistant at the hotel). It is good I can make a comparison between such different part of work, that is why I decided that hospitality is not what I want to study and to do. Now, after long consideration, I came to the most obvious and elementary decision – business, administration and IT field is something that I want and what I need. I would like to mention my achievements in mathematics and drawing while I was at school. I am really good at problem-solving and figuring things out, at logic and analyses. I am engaged in plotting and drawing at school and also at the art school. And once, my figure has been noted at an exhibition in Macedonia. I am a good PC user (Excel, MS-Office) as well. I think, my decision to study this particular course, was affected by my father who worked both as a construction superintendent, and an engineer. He drew and designed a lot, work on the computer, communicated with people, and was responsible for many projects. I have always watched and listened carefully to how he did his job, and have learnt a lot from him. I think I got my drawing skills, my responsibility, my logical and analytical mind and the ability to come up with fast and right decisions, from my father. I played a lot of sports as a kid. This is where I have learned the values of teamwork, how to win, how to work hard, how to focus and concentrate, and how to find a balance between my time and priorities. And I suppose that the gained experience will be quite valuable for my future life and career. To sum up, I think to study abroad is an excellent way to broaden my horizons, to make new friends, to get not only theoretical but and practical knowledge. It is wonderful starting to communicate with international people and without recognition beginning to look at world a little bit differ. In my opinion, Scotland can provide a lot of opportunities for my future career. It’s the best place to study, live and work. Studying in Scotland would be a great experience for me. I am sure I will do my best there. Thank you for considering my application Yours faithfully, moreVoting Question: paterson d, gov nys apparently violated no laws. elected leader as citizen us@democracy may err within law:ok?

I'm currently getting my MBA, and it's about that time to start applying for a Ph.D. program as I'm graduating soon. I have a BS in Biology & Chemistry, a general MBA, and was originally planning to get the Ph.D. in Healthcare Administration. Well, now I'm having second thoughts. I am now thinking of getting a Ph.D. in International Business. I would love to work for an international non-profit company, top picks being the World Health Organization or the International Justice Mission (rescues women from the sex slave trade, etc). The reason I'd like a Ph.D. is because I do enjoy research, although it's not what I want to do for a living, and I feel it would prove to future employers that I am dedicated and go the extra mile. Plus, I'd like the option of becoming a professor if I need something to fall back on. Dilemma- I've read a lot about degrees (mostly bachelors) in international policy, etc, and hear that it doesn't get you a job. With my BS, MBA, Ph.D. combination, would I get a job? The job of my dreams? moreVoting Question: How can I become a fighter jet aviator?
So I kind of just realized this is the kind of responsibility, excitement and role I want to take in my life. Unfortunately, I'm 22, which means I've missed my chance to enroll in ROTC and join the ranks in the Air Force. So I guess what I am asking are where do I go from here? Navy or Army sound like my only options and I heard I have a chance of being able to possibly get a pilot slot up to the age of 27 or so through there. Then again, I am not sure and basic searches on our favorite search engines don't really answer my questions either. I'm also not sure about this, but applying to another countries army/navy/air force might work. I noticed the US allows international applicants for the Air Force, so I'm assuming others may, as well. I have finished one year of college in America (so most of my generals are done), studied abroad in Thailand for 3 years bouncing around schools and majors, and have dropped out running my own business from home. Just some background info on me. moreVoting Question: What kind of job should I be trying to get now?

I am a freshman at the University of Texas at Austin, pursuing International Relations (liberal arts) as a major and perhaps also a minor in Business Administration. I will soon finish my first year working (as a freshman intern within the legal department) at the ACLU of Texas. My sophomore year might consist of me being an RA at my college dormitory and also a summer internship in the Texas Governor's Fellowship Program. My GPA isn't that great but will sure balance out in 2-3 semesters to be deemed overall "competitive." I have big entrepreneurial spirit, a passion for excellence, a commercial mindset, and enjoy global commerce. My junior-year summer, I want to intern at Goldman Sachs in their Services Division, particularly in Corporate Services & Real Estate. What does Goldman Sachs desire in prospects for the Services division? It's not like I'm applying for an internship in the I-Banking or Securities divisions... than this attempt to explain away the inexplicable? http://www.srilankaguardian.org/2010/01/explaining-mahindas-landslide-victory.html The exact text of the Election Commissioner's statement also explains his position of utter dismay in government actions to suppress his powers under the 17th Amendment - which is also the consolidation point of both majority and minority voters. The photographic evidence of Rajapaksa family members partying with LTTE elements in foreign countries whilst people at home are denied even rudimentary voting rights and 26,000 military perished in Eelam War 4 make this a very unsatisfactory distortion of democratic process. When even the Election Day functions are sullied by early morning explosions and bombings by Rajapaksa led military, the entire 17th amendment initiative scrapped by a string of terrorist attacks on police stations and training facilities (when there is a clear LTTE/Rajapaksa family affiliation) there is no option other than stepping down from office or Repolling with international election experts running the operations. The harassment of Swiss press by The Rajapaksa administration may also effect India's position negatively as India in its hegemonic desires that gave birth, supported, trained and financed the LTTE for the past 30+ years also happens to get itself positioned in an Election day controversy where the Rajapaksas depart "unexpectedly" to New Delhi and a string of explosions over Sri Lanka waterways is mimicked by an exactly strange occurrence in the Koreas when lo and behold the chief guest for India's promotional act of independence is none other that the president of South Korea. Indian Political pundits can announce this "landslide" as a manna falling from heaven but the reality is that there is nothing miraculous about cheating and to have such audacity as denying Fonseka even his own franchise, utilizing state media (which had already been reported to be 90+% monopolized by Rajapaksa) tasking utilizing former lieutenant Gothabaya Rajapaksa (who went from ret'dlieutenantt directly to head of military) denying a four star General that led the war effort sans the LTTE last days atVannii (as Fonseka was in China on business during that juncture) makes Fonseka the architect andadministratorr of a very successful war and hostage rescue operation and makes the Rajapaksa Brothers the responsible parties for those last events at the Vanni - not the military, not the security apparatus, not the country but the Rakapaksas. Gothabaya Rajapaksa being a US citizen is fully accountable not to India but to the USA for these pre/post election violences, the disruption of the elections process on morning of elections, he is also responsible for the intake of military deserters (so if there were any placed in Fonseka's detail they also would be coming from the Rajapaksas, just as the attempt to insert SB Dissanayake as Opposition Leader (Rajapaksa first cousin) and the fraudulent attempt for this Indian pundit to refer to SLFP as Rajapaksa's party when in actuality he is in UPFA is just more Indian parsing for India getting caught once again red-handed in supporting illegal political activity ( which in this case is diminutive form of terrorism on the Citizen's franchise) a matter that requires the immediate curtailment of any further hegemonic advances of India. Gothabaya Rajapaksa was recused from further arms purchases after the M. Rajapaksa declared "end of war" and even his brother the current president agreed with this move. With huge contingents of security details for Rajapaksa family members there can not be guarantee if military deserters were somehow overlooked and placed into Fonseka detail by Gothabaya Rajapaksa that these same kinds of Rajapaksa "mistakes" haven't occured in others. But there is no explicable error in Rajapaksa's continual chumminess with certain LTTE elements, thugs, traffickers that has now trickled down to his own son. When we have state organizations that have performed outstandingly in efforts to incorporate the 17th amendment and a US citizen of questionable repute completely circumventing the constitutional process as well as sending repetetive threats to political leaders over wire services these acts must be duly reported not just to Sri Lanka government and military but also US. As for India who has always tried to foist its proverbial "Big Toe" of extermist elements at neighbours we say before you try and develop or culturalize Sri Lanka clean up and develop your own country. If India (which undoubtably does) have a hand in removing Swiss press or any other Swiss service from Sri Lanka then they are in direct contravention of internationally accepted protocols of the import of nuetral party involvements that were placed and approved by many including myself at Mannar. Thus, American officials and private citizens who participate are lawbreaking criminals. U.S. and foreign government officials who attend are virtually all traitors because they put their world government goal ahead of the interests of their own nations. They scorn “nationalism” and work for “transnationalism.” All Bilderberg “regulars” must support these goals or be ostracized. More than 100 of the 120 or so attendees are “regulars,” invited every year. Typically, five or so participants are first-timers. A potential president is likely to be invited once but tossed aside when his political star dims, as former Vice President Dan Quayle can attest. But you have to support Bilderberg’s global agenda to survive. Infrequently, one refuses and is drummed out. I'm 17 and currently being dragged under by the monstrosity called "College". ..and I am completely overwhelmed. Not by the applications themselves: I have already applied to all of them and been admitted to two of them. I'm pretty proud of that; some people end up rejected. But my parents keep bugging me: planning visits, pushing me to do really well grade wise (even though I already try hard!), telling me that I will have to work every summer in college, in general BREATHING DOWN MY NECK!!! And all of this has formed a picture: working hard at college, day in and day out, no more play or fun, grad school, then finding a job, to slave away at for the rest of my life. And all I can think is that running away is starting to look very appealing. I have to admit that I am naturally lazy, but its not the work load that is causing me unease. The problem is what i want to do/study. I want to major in History(preferably Asian/European), English(one of the few things I GET), Veterinary Medicine, International Business, Chinese/Japanese or German, and Agriculture. And as I've been told, I'm an idiot. I would have too 1) be a millionaire, 2) stay in college for the rest of my life, and 3) I still wouldn't be able to do all those things at once. So they're telling me to pick 2 at most. But I don't want to limit my life to those things. I actually just want to spend my life traveling: taking oxen carts and boats to travel among countries, with nothing but a backpack and a friend. Then again I also want to learn every language in the world (atleast semi-fluently), which is an impossible dream. So... I'm confused. And in need of advice. Maybe on which majors have a steady, enjoyable job after college or maybe if anyone knows of a USA gap year exchange program. Or maybe if there is anyone out there that would want to run away with me...but only as a last resort :P. I've read enough to know that runing away will never end happy or even happen (most get caught and shipped back to wear they belong). So just give me a piece of ur mind (no crappy comments like "...are you dumb!!" or "go get a reality check"), i'm asking for real, helpful, semi-serious answers. And if that is impossible, at least give me a good laugh ;)Thanks for your answers: they really helped. I feel alot better about what to do and my follow all of your suggestions. Sorry if i sounded like a winey brat: I just felt that everyone else knew what was going on and i was left behind. if you have any colleges/universitys to suggest, that would also help alot: so far, ive only applyed to Purdue Univ., USC, UNC Charlotte, and College of Charleston. moreResolved Question: If for 1 week you were given unlimited, unchecked ruling power over the USA and the changes you made...?
were permanent; what would you change? Here are a few of mine: Do away with income tax and set up a flat sales tax (we will actually get more money because people who don't pay income tax will still have to buy things) Set up time limits on welfare and other government programs for those who are capable of working (no longer than 2 years, most people can fnd a job within that time). Even if on assistance make it manadatory to do so many hours of community service that way we are not just paying these people to sit around and watch tv. Keep Social Security but make it independent from the general fund and only give it to people who paid into it. (no more free rides to aliens, legal or otherwise, who come over at the age to draw it) Change the justice system to where the punishment fits the crime and make prisons a miserable place to be instead of club mead-no cable tv, no weight room, make all criminals work from sun up to sun down (we have to work why shouldn't they) Strictly enforce border laws and deport all who didn't come here legally. Do away with political correctness. All people should be able to speak their minds without the fear of someone yelling racism every 5 seconds when none exist. Political correctness was invented so one section of the population could guilt/harrass another section into silence and compliance. Give the states back their power and shrink the federal government to where they only ran international relations, the military and handled national disasters. Repeal laws that give international agencies power over our own government. Raise import taxes on finished products and reduce them on raw materials. Give incentives to businesses who remain in the USA and penalize those who move overseas. To the person who disagreed with the import taxes part...it would not hurt us as we are the largest consumer. plus it would make or products more competitive on the world market. moreVoting Question: can i transfer to UPenn or Yale or stanford? (stat's are given)?
i now attend Brandeis University. I will be applying for junior transfer spots. I am primarily interested in those three schools (yale, UPenn, stan). As an international student i really dont fit in this school. the general lack of 'opportunities' for non-jewish student could be the main reason. also, i want more challenge. i came to US after 8th grade to start HS here. i had major english problem, so i couldnt apply to top notch schools (higher than Bran that is) due to low average GPA (tho the improvement is obvious). now i am as fluent as a native and i want more challenge. i majoring in econ right now. here are the stats: College GPA: 4.0 ACT: 32 composite (11/12 for essay, 36 for math) HS (IB program) GPA: 3.3 / weighted: 4.3 I am especially interested in Wharton business school. please give me some chances and suggestions Thank you very much moreResolved Question: Quiz on database searching?

ok. I just recently graduated college with a diploma in general business which really means nothing. So I am going back to school this month and I am not sure what to study. I am thinking of specialising in something like Financial Planning (also a diploma). However I think a lot of people are graduating with degrees in the business field and someone like me with a diploma would not have much of a chance in getting a job. My other option is the Information Technology Applications and Technical Support course. But this is only a 51-week Certificate program. Since its a technical skill I probably have a better chance of getting a job after graduating. What do you guys think? This is the course description if you are interested; "The program will address fundamental skills in a number of areas including operating systems such as Windows and Linux, Health and Safety, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Electrical/Electronics, Soldering, Customer Service, Networking, Computer Maintenance, Job Search, Web Page Design, and Documentation. The graduate will be able to participate in technical conversations, install, configure, and operate standard office software applications and maintain the hardware components of office personal computers. They will be qualified to setup and maintain a standard networking system, create a full document system for tracking hardware/software and service calls, control and safety measures, and be capable of training staff. They would also learn how to design and maintain interactive web sites. In some of the program courses, students follow the curriculum from the International Computer Driving Licence program. Those students who successfully pass the ICDL examinations will receive International Computer Driving Licence Certificates from ICDL." moreResolved Question: Should I double major/minor for law school?

However, since people are facing increasingly critical situations such as the scarcity of land as well as the explosion in population, from my own perspective, I believe that seeking solutions from historical experience is pointless. In the first place, not all historical experience is correct. Instead, due to the insufficient knowledge and unsophisticated tools, the way ancient humans struggled with some tricky problems was kind of awkward, or could even be totally wrong. In the second place, even if the knowledge of previous generations is reasonable, it may no longer be feasible in terms of contemporary society. Such as the old style of constructions or the traditional educational strategy are all unjustified and out of date for the current human lifestyle. In the third place, if people always obey and regard the historical path to understand and handle present challenges, there would be no more innovations and the progress of development would cease. Imagine that, if Columbus followed the sailing line of former pioneers, it would be impossible for him to discover the American land. Admittedly, studying historic events may take advantage to present generations in certain aspects. For instance, in view of the current financial crises, we can obtain valuable data and information by learning from previous cases. However, with the constant change of the international business atmosphere, the historical experience can be considered as a mere reference, rather than as a magic weapon for overwhelming this crisis. To sum up, as change is an inevitable fact, it is inappropriate that modern people rely on history to tackle current issues. People should spare no effort to adopt existing methods and pursue new methodology for overcoming the obstacles they encountered at this moment and in the future. moreResolved Question: Would you help me to correct my ENGLISH essay?

I feel so unwanted in my family. See, like most couples, my parents wanted a boy. they had a name picked out and everything. Well, the first born was a girl, but they didn't mind, their next child was going to be a boy. They loved the first child a lot because there is just something special about the first one you know? The next child was me...clearly a disappointment in the gender department, and even more so because I was the second born....I didn't have that special first born quality to save me from the dissapointment of being a girl. The next child was a boy, yay! They were sooo happy. They got to use the name they'd been saving for years. The last child was a girl. She is the baby of the family, so that makes her special, also she is the bravest, most outgoing one of us all. My older sister is special because she was the first born, she is a great singer, and she gets good grades in school. She can be really mean when she spits on people and beats them up but it is acceptable because she is the oldest I guess. My brother is special because he is the boy they waited so long for, he loves sports, and he enjoys the family business [cars]. He can be snobbish because he knows dad loves him best but in generla is a decent kid. My little sister is special because she is the baby of the family, and is bold, daring, and really funny. She takes after my oldest sister in personality, being disrespectful and abusive, but it's just adorable isn't it? The feisty little baby of the family is just cute.... There is nothing special about me in general, not first born, not male, not the baby, just me. I've accomplished a lot in my areas of interests, going to international and national competitions in a few different sports...but if it has won me anything, it is jealousy and hate from my siblings. In general, my dad hates me a lot...I'm not really sure why but my older sister has a problem with me so that is probably why. His order goes Brother, older sister, youngest sister, then me last but some days I probably am not even on the list, even in last place. When I got back from a trip once over seas to a competition, instead of getting "Congrats on 3rd place, that's amazing!" I got "We had so much fun without you" from my siblings and "Now we have proof that you are the problem of the family, everything was perfect when you were gone." from my dad. I was/am devastated. I am not sure why, but I just adore my family...I even love my dad and my mom is the best person ever. I make excellent grades in school, and I excel in my few sports I am into still. But no matter how hard I try, I just can't make them proud of me. I can bring home a report card with all A+ grades except for one A and get chewed out for the A. Just never good enough. They/Them in this paragraph means my sisters and my dad. My brother is neutral and my mom [even though she hates me sometimes too] is the reason for me to live. Bottom line, I love my family but it kills me that they don't love me. moreResolved Question: ALL voters(any political party)how much does high interest rates, failure to regulate: banks..& against fraud?
ALL voters (of any political party) how much does high interest rates, failure to regulate - banks as in excessive approval for blind speculation on trends in growth such as real estate, wall street trends and commercial development & especially failure to regulate against fraud from happening on Wall Street - how much does this bankrupt who countries' economies? I mention this especially because of "Laissez Faire" economic policies that are foolishly thought of as "practical", "what works" & is even endorsed by the libertarians & is usually endorsed as a economic policy & for business practices and application on wall street, banks & a lot of business in general by the conservatives in power (especially the republicans). To make it worse is even a lot of non conservatives (yes this means the democrats & possible other non conservatives in other nations/countries) have endorsed and adapted this as an economic policy and way of doing business as well. The thing is though, while not going overboard on regulations is one thing, but it's an entirely different matter than having too much regulations by going to extremes and having none. It's an entirely different matter altogether, because to have policies of encouraging by deliberately ignoring financially destructive recklessness with an abundance of approvals of extremely risky bank loans & ignoring fraud ahead of time altogether by not allowing preventive measures & restrictions with laws & regulations to stop fraud & minimize, if not entirely stop extreme risks with bank loans - to have such policies brings on the risks of needing loans from international banks for economies. With the recent extremely high amount with trillions of dollars for an economic bailout for the economy - that's an obvious example of such things happening. What if someday the the banks of the world refuse to take risks of loaning money if it's needed anytime soon? What will the economy do then? Collapse? Case in point even libertarian U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan admitted he was wrong with his economic policies/philosophies all those years of non government involvement (avoiding regulations) in business. Yes, I'm talking about the same Alan Greenspan who was head of that office from August 11, 1987 – January 31, 2006 (which was while the US had mostly conservative presidents as well as a conservative majority on capitol hill in Washington most of the time). Doubt Alan Greenspan would admit to being wrong? Well then have a look at this documentary - towards the end of this documentary (right at around the last 5 minutes) - yes, HE ADMITS TO HAVING BEEN WRONG WITH HIS ATTITUDE ABOUT LAISSEZ FAIRE ECONOMICS BEING "RIGHT" IN FRONT OF THE U.S. CONGRESS AND SENATE - http://video.pbs.org/video/1302794657/ SO - is it worth bringing the ruining and collapse of the U.S.'s economy along with the economy of the world's other countries and plunge the world into such deep economic depression and ruin that no country recovers and brings the entire world into world wars including worse world wars again? In other words, like I asked at the top and beginning of this question, which pertains to what I've mentioned - how much does high interest rates, failure to regulate - banks as in excessive approval for blind speculation on trends in growth such as real estate, wall street trends and commercial development & especially failure to regulate against fraud from happening on Wall Street - how much does this bankrupt who countries' economies?"Bill Clinton's creation ( The Subprime Mortgage) from his "Partners in America: National Homeownership Strategy" - Forced lenders to lend in markets and to borrowers who could never before quality. This created a Housing boom built on bad credit. Fannie Mae ( Staffed by Clinton) Buying, packaging and selling those bad loans to Wall Street and our 401k's. Democrats who Blocked all 12 attempts by Bush to regulate Fannie Mae" IF PEOPLE ACTUALLY WILL WATCH THE DOCUMENTARY THEY WILL SEE IT WAS GREENSPAN'S GANG WHO TOLD CLINTON (WHO NAIVELY TRUSTED GREENSPAN'S JUDGEMENT) - IT WAS GREENSPAN WHO ADVICED CLINTON TO NOT HAVE ENOUGH REGULATIONS. "This mess is the direct result of Government intervention into the free market for the goal of getting more votes !" -Again- NO IT WAS GOVERNMENT'S LACK OF INTERVENTION in the free market THAT CAUSED "this mess"- EVEN GREENSPAN ADMITTED THIS - WATCH WHAT GREENSPAN SAID AND THEN COMMENT IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME.Les S - I like your Gandhi avatar - I hope you're wrong about regulations not being allowed to work. The possible repercussions & scary future of regulations of the marketplace is very frightening to even consider the possibilities of, because economic collapse & poverty contributed to madmen such as adolf hitler rising to power & creating nazi Germany."Democrats who Blocked all 12 attempts by bush to regulate Fannie Mae" - "This mess is the direct result of Government intervention into the free market for the goal of getting more votes!" - First of all HOW does that make any sense??? - If someone like bush (supposedly) wasn't allowed to intervene with regulations to regulate Fannie Mae - how was that the direct result of Government intervention into the free market for the goal of getting more votes!"??? because how is NOT regulating doing any regulating? Granted there were some democrats who were just as guilty of not wanting regulations because of listening to Greenspan, but nobody told any of them to blindly listen to Greenspan who later admitted he was wrong and Greenspan was going by a Laissez Faire a Laissez Faire philosophy because he blindly thought ayn rand couldn't be anything but right and ayn rand blindly followed nietzsche who blindly followed machiavelli."Proof? 2008 a very heated Election Year Both Houses controlled by Democrats. Yet.. incredibly there was NO Investigation as to why." - No I realize it's not hard for people to figure out that the democrats didn't want there to be ANY question of using "fixed" voting machines & rigged/phony votes UNLIKE bush's camp who used "whatever means necessary" to win their elections. However- That's besides the point because I don't trust the democrats blindly as I don't trust the conservatives or libertarians either - If I trusted any existing party in the U.S. more for honesty's or reliability with their policies' sake, it would be the Green Party, but they're a bit too pacifist for me, because in the real world defense IS needed. However there's a huge difference in the reasons about why the Iraq war went down as opposed to why it's necessary for taking out the al qaeda for good. Stopping the terrorists and nutty taliban is more important than making money for bush & oil company CEOs.Edit - Perhaps maybe it's worse than a Plutocracy - maybe it's a Kleptocracy. So also if that's the case - I hope not about that either. Perhaps campaign finance reform would actually help to correct that, but considering that Capitol hill & especially their supporters probably would never let a bill like that go through - maybe some wealthy guys who didn't like the other wealthy guys and their system that gives unfair & uncalled for advantages for the wealthy & corporations, might have to start sending lots in campaign money for a lot of independents who aren't republicans, democrats or liberatarians and then imagine if those independents flooded out the others and not care about their system that makes paupers out the working class while the wealthy stays wealthy. It sounds far fetched to think that wealthy people might get aggressive against other wealthy people & their whole system such as in like a Zorro or Robin Hood, but I've seen odd things happen before. moreResolved Question: helpppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp?
Part 1 - Analyzing Primary Sources: (2 points each / 10 total points) Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow. The passage is an excerpt from President Bill Clinton’s State of the Union address in January 1998. . . . As we enter the twenty-first century, the global economy requires us to seek opportunity not just at home, but in all markets of the world. We must shape this global economy, not shrink from it. In the last five years, we have led the way in opening new markets, with 240 trade agreements that remove foreign barriers to products bearing the proud stamp “Made in the U.S.A.” Today, record high exports account for fully one-third of our economic growth. I want to keep them growing, because that’s the way to keep America growing and to advance a safer, more stable world. . . . I know there is opposition to more comprehensive trade agreements. I have listened carefully and I believe that the opposition is rooted in two fears: first, that our trading partners will have lower environmental and labor standards, which will give them an unfair advantage in our market and do their own people no favors, even if there’s more business; and, second, that if we have more trade, more of our workers will lose their jobs and have to start over. I think we should seek to advance worker and environmental standards around the world. I have made it abundantly clear that it should be a part of our trade agenda. But we cannot influence other countries’ decisions if we send them a message that we’re backing away from trade with them. 1. According to President Clinton, what accounted for one-third of U.S. economic growth? 2. What opposition to comprehensive trade agreements does President Clinton acknowledge? 3. What did President Clinton make “abundantly clear” should be a part of the trade agenda? 4. Why does President Clinton want to keep trade agreements going? 5. In the following quotation, what “decisions” is President Clinton referring to? “But we cannot influence other countries’ decisions if we send them a message that we’re backing away from trade with them.” Part Two – Interpreting Graphs: (2 points each / 6 points total) Use the graph below to answer the following questions: oWhat does the graph show? oWhat trend (pattern) do you see? oHow can you explain this trend? CBS News has learned that U.S. and Brazilian immigrant officials arrested 11 people Monday for allegedly operating a work visa scam with offices in Orlando, Fla. which generated more than $53 million from thousands of illegal immigrant victims since 2002. The U.S. Consulate called the scam one of the largest of its kind in history. Sources told CBS News that more than 4,500 victims paid between $1,000 and $15,000 for fraudulent documents which then helped them to obtain H2B temporary work visas to enter the United States. The scam operated in the United States through an Orlando-based company called Travel Work Study Overseas, officials said. The defendants then allegedly arranged for illegal immigrant victims to come to the United States by taking advantage of State Department’s temporary work visa program (the H2A and H2B program) and petitioned for more H2B visas. On their Web site, TWSO claims to offer "cultural and work exchange international programs for all who want to realize a life project," but sources tell CBS News that scam victims often found no work once they arrived in the country. Monday, Brazilian authorities issued arrest warrants for four people suspected of operating the US side of the scam: Valeria Dozzi Barbugli, Rodrigo Dozzi Calza, Runo Dozzi Barbugli and Valquiria Dozzi Batalha, all of Sau Paulo, Brazil. "We’re dealing with a case here where we’ve had people using fraud-fraudulent documents-in order to bring workers into the U.S. under temporary worker visas without ensuring that they’re actually legitimate travelers," said Thomas J White, the Consul General at U.S. Consulate General, Sao Paulo. "The visa fraud affects American workers in that it puts illegal immigrants into the U.S. economy who are eventually going to take jobs away from American workers." Earlier Monday, federal agents executed a search warrant for the Travel Work Study Overseas offices on Universal Boulevard in Orlando. Zachary Stoumbos, an attorney for TWSO refused to comment on the search. "I've been working for this company for years. We just got handed a search warrant. I need to speak with my client," he said. White told CBS News Monday's actions today in Brazil represent an important victory for the State Department. Visa fraud is "a threat to the security of the United States, and it’s a threat to legitimate small businesses who need temporary workers," White said. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/12/07/cbsnews_investigates/main5929881.shtml moreResolved Question: Is it possible to get into Med School without taking the pre-medical studies?
I am an international student that transferred into Cal State Long Beach in my Junior year. I am currently doing a business double degree with a current GPA of 3.8 but I have really found my desire to do medicine. I was really disappointed after talking to my school's medical adviser after being told I would need 2 years to complete the premedical studies but I'm on a student visa only for my current scope of studies (Business) and already going into my senior year. I find it not feasible to start now because of the time period involved. So it would be really impossible to start or complete the premedical program. I have done chemistry, physics and biology in secondary school which is an equivalent of high school here and also taken a Biology and Physics in my General Education requirements. I am considering taking the MCAT and then going ahead with the application for med school but then would it be useless without taking the premedical studies? United Nations Compensation Commission (UNCC) In Affiliation with Barrack Obama Campaign to Assist Scammed Individuals in the Settlement of Disputes through Liverpool cooperative Bank Plc. Attention: to you, The United Nation Compensation Commission (UNCC) that was created in 1991 as a subsidiary organ of the UN Security Council. Its mandate is to process claims and pay compensation for losses and damages suffered as a direct result of Internet Fraud and Iraq 's unlawful invasion and occupation of Kuwait . The UNCC in conjunction with the Obama Campaign on the 12th of October 2008 organized a confederation meeting which ended 2 weeks later, with the Secretary General to the UNITED NATIONS. This meeting was first held on the 8th of April 2003 by the then secretary to the UN. You can view this page for your perusal http://www.un.org/News/Press/docs/2003/ik344.doc.h This email is directed to all individuals that have been scammed in all parts of the world. In reference to the just concluded meeting, the UNCC in affiliation with Barrack Obama Campaign have agreed to compensate them with categorical payment sum of $800,000 each. In its decision 17" of 24th March 2006, the Governing Council established basic principles for the distribution of compensation payments to successful claimants. This decision was made two months before the resolution of the first installment of claims before the Commission. As stated in the Secretary-General’s report of 2nd May 2006, it was anticipated that the value of approved awards would far exceed the resources available in the Compensation Fund at any given time. The Governing Council therefore devised a mechanism for the allocation of available funds to successful claimants that gave priority to the three urgent categories of claims and which, within each category, would give equal treatment to similarly situated claims. Only when each successful claimant in categories "A", "B" and "C" had been paid an initial amount up to US$2,500 would payments commence for claims in other categories. Accordingly, the first phase of payment involved an initial payment of US$2,500 to each successful individual claimant in categories "A" and "C". However, for humanitarian reasons, all category "B" claims will be paid in full of a total USD$800,000. A total of US$3,252,337,997.09 was made available to 1,498,119 successful individual claimants in categories "A", "B" and "C" under the first phase of payments. A claimant includes every foreign contractor that may have not received their contract sum, and people that have had an unfinished transaction or international businesses that failed due to Government problems etc. We found your name in our list and that is why you are receiving this email notification. I will be graduating in the spring of 2011 with two degrees in International Business and Finance/Economics; also, I will have a minor in Spanish. I have always had the intention of going to law school; however, I have found myself questioning what I would like to do after, God-willing, I graduate from law school and pass the bar. I plan to move back home which is a town of nearly 40,000 people to start my own law firm. I have held different internships and made multiple connections with different lawyers/judges in that area. Furthermore, I have been wondering if it would be wiser to simply work for one of these lawyers, with whom I have already built a relationship or try to hop on board with a larger law firm in a nearby city. While I prefer to fancy myself as an entrepreneur, I have been questioning myself as to whether or not the benefits outweigh the difficulties. While boasting is not exactly my forte, I do understand the concept of "busting ***" and I have maintained a 3.93 GPA throughout my Undergraduate career, thus far. Another obstacle I have found myself unable to hurdle is the fact l will most likely not be well-capitalized after law school--and this may present a problem considering there is a significant amount of overhead involved in starting any business. Another concern I have been having, which may seem, chronologically, backwards, is whether or not attending an elite law school is absolutely essential. Now, don't get me wrong, but I just do not see the purpose of drowning myself in tens-of-thousands of dollars of debt just to get out of law school and hang my own shingle. I could, potentially, attend my home state university's law school for a considerable amount less than, say, a nearby private school. Also, if I were to attend my state school, I would still be a viable candidate for one of the law firms in which I have previously interned--or any other law firm in my hometown, for that matter. And, lastly, I have been mulling another option over in my mind for a few weeks now, and I would like to get some feedback. I have been considering working full-time, since both of my degrees and minor are very marketable in the general workforce, and taking law school part-time. This would allow me to earn some sort of capital which I could invest in a 2-3 year CD while I was in school, and then invest in my law firm after I pass the bar. However, I would be finishing an entire semester behind my fellow peers. Also, I fully understand the stress involved with such a heavy workload, but, once again, I fully understand the concept of "busting ***." You get no where in life by idling lethargically. I understand that this is hardly a question, and I apologize for that. However, any feedback would be greatly appreciated, as I am sincerely torn at this juncture in my life. Thanks, and cheers! moreResolved Question: if I want 2 go into the hotel management business, which of these business admins major should I choose?

On the domestic side, it is liberal statism: higher taxes, mammoth bureaucracies, and a vortex of government regulation that sucks up private enterprise and transforms business decisions into political ones. It comes with an ungracious and sneering contempt for opposition. On the international scene: We have the intersection of incompetence and folly, with a strong element of cynicism. The Obami have deployed aggressive and losing gambits (Honduras and the Middle East), betrayed friends (Israel, Poland, the Czech Republic), snubbed allies (the Churchill bust goes home), thrown ourselves at the feet of adversaries (Russia, Iran), jettisoned human rights and the defense of democracy (Burma, Sudan, Iran), projected angst-ridden indecision (Afghanistan-war formulation), damaged our fighting ability (defense cuts and missile-defense withdrawal), and shown deference to debased institutions (the UN). Most alarmingly, Obama and his attorney general have scarred and scared our intelligence community and placed Lefty pie-in-the-sky moralizing above the safety of Americans (trying KSM, closing Guantanamo, and halting enhanced interrogations). moreResolved Question: average stock price (per share)?

Hello Everybody; I'm international student at the university of the incarnate in San Antonio, Texas. I'm a graduate student there enrolled in an MBA program with concentration in international business. I have a lot of people saying good things about Texas A&M University and read and heard some controversial reviews and thoughts about the university I go to now which is Incarnate Word (catholic private university) I got a chance to transfer to Texas A&M and pursue in a general MBA program. I won't have to take any perquisites. I'm really so confused guys. Some say that I should transfer because Texas A&M is far better and some others say that I should rather stay at Incarnate word because it's a good school too. Anybody from San Antonio (or from anywhere) can help me here please ? moreResolved Question: My online e-commerce business is based in Alberta, how do I charge PST/GST/HST?
We've an Internet consulting service business with no physical deliveries. My understanding is the following, is it correct? -Charge GST to every one of our customers within Canada, except for people from the HST provinces where we charge HST according to their rates; -No need to charge PST at all, as I can let my customers remit PST due to their province (assuming they're honest about it); -no need for international customers. If sale < $30,000, PST/HST? ### -no need for great detail. General guidelines are fine; -don't worry about the upcoming new HST rules. moreTop International Business In General Links
