Poor regions left out of industrial growth benefits: CSE

Ranchi, March 28: The benefits of modern industrial growth do not necessarily percolate to the poor regions from where the industries get their minerals, water and energy, says the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) in a book released here Friday.

Small business role in creating jobs

The headline sounds great: small businesses are California's job creators.

What does that mean for the state, for policy makers, for our communities, and for small businesses themselves?

It's Your Business asked UC Irvine economist David Neumark, who is the most recent to connect the state's small businesses to job growth.

His study, "Do Small Businesses Create More Jobs" with Brandon Wall of Stanford and Junfu Zhang of Clark University, was just published.

In the past, Neumark, who is also a senior fellow at the Public Policy Institute of California in San Francisco, has researched the impact of increasing the minimum wage and whether companies are moving out of California.

The new study wades knee-deep into a long-running controversy among scholars about where new jobs really come from. more

New Web site connects W.Va. entrepreneurs

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Aaron Simmons of GetGoWV has a thick portfolio of business plans, including a modeling agency, a production company and inventions. He has participated in Advantage Valley's Entrepreneur League System, which has provided consistent help, he said.

Now, with the impending launch of an online West Virginia business listing, Simmons and other state businesses have a new place for networking and reference.

"As an entrepreneur, we are always seeking and looking for help,'' Simmons said. "It's a big opportunity for business.''
