Ball State Entrepreneurship Center to Host Unusual Business Plan Challenge
Many business ideas are first pitched in the back of a limo. Rarely are those doing the pitching college undergrads. Even more rarely are the limos racing around the most famous racetrack on Earth. But when The Ball State Entrepreneurship Center hosts their second annual Nascent 500 Business Plan Challenge at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on March 28, 2008, that's exactly what will happen.
The Nascent 500 is open to undergraduate students from across the country and teams compete for a $10,000 grand prize. Premier Capital Corporation will act as the Winner's Circle sponsor for the event, providing the prize money. To apply to compete in the Business Plan Challenge, a student or team of students must submit a business plan for an entrepreneurial venture. Twelve student teams will be selected to move on to the qualifying round at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. more

It was a violent Easter Sunday for a Jackson business owner.
J.P.D. is investigating the shooting at 4320 West Capitol Street.
Jerry McGee was at his detail shop when he said two men approached him, then opened fire.
He suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, which he believes is in retaliation for filing a police report last week when his business was robbed.
McGee said he has had repeated break ins at the detail shop.
He was also beaten by the men, who he identified to officers at the scene.
No arrests have been made.

The Bush administration unveiled a revised rule Friday threatening businesses with prosecution unless they fire employees identified in government records as possible illegal immigrants, offering a new explanation but virtually no change in content from the regulation that a San Francisco federal judge blocked in October.
The Department of Homeland Security announced the new version of the so-called no-match rule on its Web site and said it would invite public comments for 30 days.
The department then plans to ask U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer to lift his injunction. At the same time, it has asked a federal appeals court to overturn the Oct. 10 decision by the judge, who found that unions and businesses had raised serious questions about the rule's legality. more
Owego companies to present expansion plans
OWEGO -- Two expanding Town of Owego businesses will present site plans at Tuesday's town planning board meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Town of Owego Hall, 2354 State Route 434, Apalachin.
New Vision Industries Inc., a precision machining services business, will have its site plan reviewed by the planning board for a 10,800-square-foot building to be built perpendicular to its existing facility at 4012 Route 434. The current facility has about 10,000 square feet, according to New Vision President Michael Copt.
Copt previously stated contracts with undisclosed customers have prompted the need for more manufacturing space.
Upstate Shredding LLC, a privately owned scrap processor, also has a site plan on the agenda for a 28,810-square-foot shelter at its existing facility off Corporate Drive. more
