Earnings: Disney Inches Past Estimates; Cable Networks Business

Disney ( NYSE: DIS) announced quarterly revenue of $9.23 billion, up 2 percent form last year, and edging out analyst estimates of $9.14 billion. Net income was up 7 percent to $1.28 billion. Diluted EPS, excluding an accounting adjustment was $.62, just a shade ahead of $.61 consensus estimates. The results almost look like the opposite of Viacom's ( NYSE: VIA) report from yesterday. Cable Networks revenue was up 12 percent to $2.59 billion, while total media networks revenue was up 8 percent to $4.12 billion. Recall that Viacom basically showed no growth at its cable networks, depending entirely on Rock Band to lift media revenue. Cable Networks op income was up 14 percent to $1.2 billion, which the company attributed to its ESPN franchise and international growth at the Disney Channel.

Ex-sports and marketing exec to lead Boston Coach

Larry Moulter, the executive behind construction of what now is the TD Banknorth Garden, was named Friday to run BostonCoach.

Moulter, 57, had been running his own consulting shop. He previously worked in various entertinanment-industry jobs.

BostonCoach is built around its livery service. The company, run from Boston, is overseen by Devonshire Investors, an affiliate of Fidelity Investments.

Moulter was picked for his "wide range of experience growing successful businesses," said Timothy T. Hilton, president of Devonshire Investors.

Moulter has an undergraduate degree from Northeastern University and a law degree from Suffolk University. He also holds a master's degree in international relations from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University. more

Andrew Arroyo joins the company as Vice President of Information Technology and Rachael Lille Moore assumes the role of Director of Marketing and Communications.

Before coming to Horseshoe Bay Resort in April 2007, Bickart was the vice president of sales and marketing for Barton Creek Resort for nearly six years. Kendra Araujo, director of sales, came to Horseshoe Bay Resort in 2004 as a senior account executive with 18 years of leisure industry experience, and was named Sales Manager of the Year in 2007. Araujo formally acted as director of sales for San Diego Harbor Excursions for 13 years. Casey Cotton, associate director of sales, joined Horseshoe Bay Resort after serving as the director of sales and marketing for Lakeway Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas. There, he was responsible for increasing overall room revenue by 67% and catering revenue by 48%. Cotton also brings 12 years of sales and managerial experience from working with Dell, Inc. He earned his BS in business administration from Adams State College in Alamosa, CO. more
