According to a comment made at Microsoft's Analyst Day today, Microsoft and Facebook are preparing a search and advertising deal that would lead to the integration of Microsoft's Live Search and search advertising into Facebook. Microsoft already provides ads on Facebook as part of a 'strategic alliance' and Microsoft holds a $240 million equity stake in the company. No information about the financial specifics of the deal were mentioned so far and it is not clear if this deal would be exclusive.

Since graduating in 2005 I have spent time travelling and working in various jobs (please see my CV attached). I have a lot of ideas about things I want to do and achieve, but have been reluctant to follow a particular path fully for fear of closing off others. As a result I haven't progressed in jobs, rather remained static and moved around different organisations on a similar level. I'm not 'career driven' in the typical sense, so career progression for me is less about working my way into a senior position, and more about realising my potential, experiencing new things, learning and contributing to society. The following things are important to me in a job: Variety - this is really important. I don't want to remain static in a job, and I really dislike routine. I like experiencing new things; achieving something and then moving onto the next. This is the main reason that I've not fulfilled my ambitions since graduation, even though I've had options to progress higher in almost every job I've had. I feel like committing to a path will cut off others. And geographical variety is important too, not just variety of the work I'm doing. I don't like being sat in front of a computer all day doing repetitive tasks. I really enjoy travel, seeing new places, learning about different cultures, meeting new people. Working abroad or being in a job that involves international travel would be good. Altruism - I don't see a job as a means to money alone. I need money to live (obviously) and I do want to be more than comfortable financially, but I want to feel like I've achieved something positive with my day - not just making money for people. I enjoy working with people and helping individuals, but I’m not sure if that type of career (e.g. social work) would meet my needs. I imagine that, again, I’d feel tied down to one path, to a specific ‘career’. I feel like I may be happier achieving things on a bigger scale, that help lots of people. Public sector or charity work appeals to me more than the private sector for this reason. However, I get very frustrated by bureaucracy and I'm attracted by the freedom and potential to achieve that the private sector offers. Creativity – I feel like a creative job would stimulate me far more than the opposite (though I am quite an analytical person). I like writing, and I have a lot of ideas. People – Ironically the jobs that I’ve enjoyed most have been the worst match to my ambitions. E.g. a call centre in Australia and admin work at Greene King. This is because the people I’ve worked with quickly became friends, and the working environment was very social. Here are some of the jobs/career paths I’m considering: Journalism – magazine journalism, BBC etc International development/politics – working for an MP, civil service Charity work (e.g. lobbyist, researching) – Oxfam, Amnesty International etc Post graduate study (e.g. MA in Politics) Research (e.g. doctorate) Teaching English as a foreign language International work (e.g. UN, disaster recovery) Volunteering overseas (e.g. VSO – teaching, community development projects) Writer (books, plays, poetry etc), travel writer, columnist Business analysis (my degree was in Information Systems. I don’t really enjoy this type of work and so haven’t pursued it) Working with young or disadvantaged children (e.g. duke of Edinburgh style outdoor trips) Starting a business There are aspects of most of these professions that appeal to me, and some of them I definitely want to achieve at some point (i.e. starting a business, writing, studying a masters, volunteering abroad). However, there’s not really one career path that stands out above the rest, and I’m not sure what the best direction to go in is at this point in my career. Can you recommend any career paths/jobs that would suit my aspirations? Do you have any advice about how to resolve my fears about not pursuing potentially interesting paths? Can you advise me on the most logical/best career move at this stage, which would allow me to gain a wide breadth of experience and then to specialise or move into different areas in the future? I think it’s important that I don’t waste time in jobs that don’t contribute anything to my goals/CV: is there a logical job type that would allow me to build up useful experience while I’m working out what to do longer-term, and that might help me decide this? ok. i have my associates in paralegal studies. i like law, but im working as a legal secretary and hate being behind a desk. its annoys me. ive been doing this for 2 years!. before this job i worked at a dentist office for 4 years. i love doing hands on things, i was always working with patients, and front desk, and with the doctors. its was great. now im getting my bachelors. i love art since i was young. the smart choice would be go into business to finish fast but im not sure if i want that and what to do. i was thinking of international business. but since i love art, i was thinking of majoring in photography or graphic designs. i was in a wedding andi loved everything that had to do with photography, and right now im traveling so i can take pictures of everything =], i wanted to see how to be a wedding photographer or designer, or an interior designer. but i know that those are things that should be like a hobbie. i absolutely love creative things. i started to think more that i did really enjoy working for a doctor so i wondered if i should combine them. a friend suggested working as an art therapist (but idk what you can do with that degree) i wouldnt mind being an art therapist, working with kids, and helping them in hospitals. i love kids.... but i know i tend to be affectionate and get all emotional (is that a bad thing). or maybe just go into nuursing... but thats a whole 360. at first i was thinkin of double majoring in international business and art. and if it doesnt go well career wise for me then ill go to law school and pursue that .. but i dont know what to do!!! My husband got a very good job offer from a large international company. The salary is in the higher 6 figures and he really don't want to turn it down. He has decided to 'hand over' our business to me... and I really, really don't want it. I have stood behind him with this business through thick and thin, good times and bad times, hunger and plenty... and I'm honestly as sick of the business as he is (that's why he's taking the job). I have put everything on hold (my own interests and career) to help him build up the business, and now that he's successful I really wanted to pursue my own thing. The problem is that I sometimes don't communicate effectively to my husband, and he is a bit on the touchy and selfish side when it comes to 'him'. I know it's going to come out all wrong, and even if it comes out 'right' he'll hear it wrong and we'll end up down each others throats before any of us has made our point. He'll call me selfish, and in the end I'll take over the business out of guilt. She used to a doctor, by observing her helping many patients to regain their health. I wish that I could also help spread joy and comfort to others, just as she did. I come from a traditional Chinese family, we moved to the United States three years ago due to my father’s postdoctoral training. My mother has a part-time job at a supermarket. Therefore, our monthly income could only cover the basic housing and living expenses. I understand how expensive the medical school is, and my family’s income cannot cover majority of it. I have to take account of my family’s financial position, whenever I decide on college choices. The two lobbyists who McCain aide William Timmons worked closely with over a five year period on the lobbying campaign later either pleaded guilty to or were convicted of federal criminal charges that they had acted as unregistered agents of Saddam Hussein's government. During the same period beginning in 1992, Timmons worked closely with the two lobbyists, Samir Vincent and Tongsun Park, on a previously unreported prospective deal with the Iraqis in which they hoped to be awarded a contract to purchase and resell Iraqi oil. Timmons, Vincent, and Park stood to share at least $45 million if the business deal went through. Timmons' activities occurred in the years following the first Gulf War, when Washington considered Iraq to be a rogue enemy state and a sponsor of terrorism. His dealings on behalf of the deceased Iraqi leader stand in stark contrast to the views his current employer held at the time. John McCain strongly supported the 1991 military action against Iraq, and as recently as Sunday described Saddam Hussein as a one-time menace to the region who had "stated categorically that he would acquire weapons of mass destruction, and he would use them wherever he could." Timmons declined to comment for this story. An office manager who works for him said that he has made it his practice during his public career to never speak to the press. Timmons previously told investigators that he did not know that either Vincent or Park were acting as unregistered agents of Iraq. He also insisted that he did not fully understand just how closely the two men were tied to Saddam's regime while they collaborated. But testimony and records made public during Park's criminal trial, as well as other information uncovered during a United Nations investigation, suggest just the opposite. Virtually everything Timmons did while working on the lobbying campaign was within days conveyed by Vincent to either one or both of Saddam Hussein's top aides, Tariq Aziz and Nizar Hamdoon. Vincent also testified that he almost always relayed input from the Iraqi aides back to Timmons. Talking points that Timmons produced for the lobbyists to help ease the sanctions, for example, were reviewed ahead of time by Aziz, Vincent testified in court. Proposals that Timmons himself circulated to U.S. officials as part of the effort were written with the assistance of the Iraqi officials, and were also sent ahead of time with Timmons' approval to Aziz, other records show. I've been in a long distance relationship with this guy for over 3 years, who is in the military. Things have gone up and down. We've broken up twice so far. Now, neither of us is willing to move wherever the other person is, but we still love each other. The reason being is that in the military he gets sent to small towns in the middle of nowhere, whereas, I specializes in International Business and looking to pursue my career. He wants to stay in the military and want me to move with him, but I want to be able to do my career also. Small towns in the middle of nowhere won't allow me to do things I've always wanted to do for pursuing my career in Int'l Business.. Dear all, I am 34yrs old, already work as an academic at a major UK business school but i have been passionate about counseling psychology and helping for over 10 years. Even though i have a good promising career in my current field, i cannot stop feeling drawn towards a path that focuses on helping people and conducting research into human well being. The Counseling psychology programs in the US are both well funded (unlike in the UK) and more rigorous. The prospect of going for such a program is both exciting and frightening because i would be dealing with giving up a promising career (albeit not my passion in life), relocating to another country and living with very limited finances for 6 years. Are counseling doctorates able to fully finance (fee waver and stipend) international students? How rigorous / hard is to go through such a program? Has anyone done what i am considering? I'm from Mexico and a legal resident of the United States finishing my bachelor degree in International Business with an emphasis in Marketing. I speak Spanish and English fluently and some Italian.
