India's Workforce Revolution

Companies like General Electric and Cisco now have their second-largest research centers in Bangalore. Debates rage in the U.S. about whether this will lead to greater prosperity or threaten the country's global economic leadership. But it's more productive to ask how India is training a workforce capable of handling such complex work.

Businesses must control costs: expert

If businesses haven't taken stock of their costs as the economy enters a weak period they risk being uncompetitive, a global business consultant warns.

A survey released shows privately-owned businesses still regard quality as their key advantage rather than price, despite the tough economic climate.

The research by business consultant Grant Thornton found that 72 per cent of such firms put quality as their number one competitive edge.

Only 41 per cent believed pricing measures could deliver a strong competitive advantage, behind ethical business (66 per cent), staff retention (61 per cent) and brand strength (59 per cent).

Tony Markwell, national head of privately held Business at Grant Thornton Australia, said he was surprised by the results. more

Solutia has the answer to chemicals poser

NEWPORT chemical company Solutia has been awarded for developing an environmentally-friendly clean-up process which could now be taken up by manufacturers across Europe.

The company employs 164 people and makes a range of chemicals on its site in Corporation Road, which go into products as diverse as car windscreen safety glass, paints, floor coverings, varnishes and washing powders, as well as water treatment products and heat transfer fluids.

It developed the process to deal with the toxic chemical, formaldehyde, which is discharged as a residue during the manufacture of chemicals used in washing detergents and to prevent build up of scale in water treatment processes.

The industry-accepted best technique to deal with formaldehyde through a bio-treatment plant was ineffective, so Solutia developed a reaction known as Formose, which converts formaldehyde to harmless sugars extremely cost-effectively and reduces its presence in waste water to one part per million. more

Keeping Consumers Safe from Defective Imported Products: After a

Worse, they obfuscate the critical need to work directly with overseas manufacturers, and especially to understand the rather unique dynamic that businesses encounter when importing products from China.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission Reform Act

Unfortunately, Congress seems to have succumbed to the same fundamental misunderstanding of the primary issue facing import safety that has plagued Operation Guardian. Congress, too, has failed to focus on the need for U.S.-based importers to travel to China and train their overseas manufacturers in China as to how to comply with U.S. safety regulations.

The bipartisan Consumer Product Safety Commission Reform Act, H.R. 4040 ("the Act"), is set to pass any day now. The law is intended to "establish consumer product safety standards . more

Resolved Question: College graduate who has been living with parents since October-Should I just pack my bags and move to a city?

I graduated college almost a year ago now (Spring 2009), and I haven't had any luck landing jobs in my field. I moved back home with my parents in October and have been holding 2 jobs in retail ever since. My hometown is extremely rural and doesn't have a lot of international business opportunities (which is what I studied). I'm going crazy.. there is nothing to do here, and I feel like I'm just wasting time that I should be networking. My parents won't let me move out until I have a full-time job offer, but I am considering up and moving somewhere. I feel like if I was in a city it would help my job prospects instead of applying in a small town hundreds of miles away. If I moved somewhere, I could at least work in customer service until that full-time job opportunity comes up. I feel like it's just a waste being here at 22, when I should be out starting a life of my own. I know I am not going to get a job just sitting here. I have been accepted into a few graduate programs out of state beginning in the fall, which my parents see as a waste of time, but I know it will open a lot of doors. What should I do? Should I just pick a place and move there?? Still apply for jobs through my computer in a hick town while working in retail? Go to grad school and take out loans? Ugh it is so frustrating, and I am getting tired of living with my parents and being in the middle of nowhere. more

Resolved Question: How possible is it to close down a bad business?

I live in the Bay Area of California, as well as my daughter. Recently, my daughter walked into a cellular store with her old [diconnected] phone asking for a plan with unlimited calls, texts, and web service. The rep offered MetroPCS service, but my daughter's old phone was not a MetroPCS phone, therefore she would have to purchase one. Since her phone costed her plenty and it would be a waste, she asked if there was any way to use "it" with a plan that covered unlimited calls, text, and web service. The rep then offered a sim card by Simple Mobile, which states on the package UNLIMITED NATIONWIDE TALK, UNLIMITED US/GLOBAL TEXT, MOBILE WEB, EMAIL, MMS, SOCIAL NETWORKS, INTERNATIONAL LONG DISTANCE, NO CONTRACTS, NO CREDIT CHECKS. Now... supposedly, she needed to "choose a package", but the rep didn't tell her that part... and altho "I" personally know better than to accept something without reading the package (&/or pamphlet) to its completion, and question anything I "don't" understand, she didn't do so because the rep did all the talking and convinced her this particular chip would do what she wanted (instead of explaining to her that it merely served for "activation purposes"). 3 days later, my daughter's web service was cancelled, so she phoned Simple Mobile, and at this point they explained how it works. My daughter explained to "that rep" exactly how the whole conversation & thus sale actually went. The rep told her that if she was unsatisfied with the chip, she needed to go back to the store and request a refund based on the fact that the store rep didn't explain the functions of the chip correctly. My daughter went back to the store, and the rep (who obviously didn't speak English) denied anything my daughter requested, including a refund, an exchange, or even an explanation. Since Spanish is my 1st language, my daughter then asked me to accompany her, which I did. The rep was very rude to me, did not give any explanation about anything, simply cut me off telling me to do whatever I wanted about the situation. He walked away from me to help another customer, and I asked him to please continue our conversation as we were not done yet. I also asked him not to be rude to me (because he continued to be) because we were customers as well. He simply kept telling me he didn't care, and that he didn't care what we did about it either. I asked him for a business card and the name of the owner of the establishment, and he gave me one, telling me the owner was his brother. He then "shooed" us away with his hand, and I told him I could very well have the business closed due to his unprofessionalism and rudeness to me, especially in front of other customers. What do you Yahooligans think? Should I call his brother? It's been about a week, because I needed to "cool off", as in the past I would've grabbed him by the collar and decked him. But I know we get nowhere that way, in fact, I'd get in trouble is all! So, I decided to wait a few days for the situation to cool off. However, he wasn't rude when he "took" my daughter's $80... and he should be well informed about each of the products he sells! How possible is it to close down a bad business? Thx! more

Resolved Question: Should Olympic games (summer and winter) be played every two years instead of every four?

That way we would be able to watch olympic games every year: one year we would watch summer games, next year we would watch winter games and so on. Wouldn't it be good for everybody? Athletes would be able to put into practice their training more often, and would be able to participate in more games and won more medals in their sport careers, which would be a great incentive. Ordinary people would be able to watch the games on TV more often and also purchase their tickets to travel to host countries with sufficient time in advance. Host countries would benefit from the events and so that would help domestic and international business. TV Networks would also benefit from broadcasting the games more often. What do you think? more

(example: working with verizon to work on universal wifi access for nominal fee to families)...or with car companies to develop new, more advanced fuel-efficient automobiles. -I oppose bailouts to any private company, especially when they are one-sided blank checks that dont work. -i support second amendment rights to own a firearm for protecting property and for sport but i also support background checks. -i support same sex marriage -i oppose federal funding for elective abortions, but I do not oppose abortions paid with a woman's private funds. -i oppose the wars in iraq and afghanistan but i support dramatically increased bombings with predator drones to disrupt terrorist networks and kill terrorist leaders. -i support the death penalty. -i support subsidized universal access to college education. If you get accepted in any school, you just need to worry about attending, you shouldn't be punished with loans for doing the right thing and working to be a productive citizen. -i support compulsory 3 month military training for all US Citizens, female or male, anytime before they turn 24. -A veteran contract for all members of the armed forces who serve more than 5 years which include lifetime health insurance, money to purchase a home, and lifetime decreased taxes. - I am very much against illegal immigration. I support dramatically increased raids, heavy financial penalties on any businesses that employs illegal aliens in the US, i support shortening the amount it takes to deport illegals, a large secure border that spans all the US/Mexico border, increased border patrol and technology, military presence/predator drones to combat narcotics/human trafficking networks. from what i've given you. which of the two parties would i fit best in? dont tell me independent or libertarian because that is not what i askedI support one large medicare that would provide coverage to every US citizen, permanent resident, and person with non expired visa. more

Resolved Question: can you find any mistakes in this translation?

this is a translation from italian to english. can you tell me if there are any mistakes, please? (Sorry if it is long) 4- Institute computerized joint training courses, putting to use in project the knowledge and the means to develop them, making the most of the mutual excellences of people operating in the same professional field. 5- Nowadays the English is used like an International communication language, forcing people from different country to speak a language not their own, creating discomforts, practical mistakes and troubles of understanding and speaking. So, we propose to create cultural exchanges directly from language to language, avoiding the obstacle – otherwise required – to speak a third language. So, everybody can speak and listen to in his mother language. 6- Facilitate the search of a qualified translator both the institutions and privates, creating a network of professionalism based on our acquaintances and experts operating in the specialized translation field. The above-mentioned goals become doable through some proposes about the organizational, management and strategic activities of our company. The propose, that we expect to complete within a very short time, can be summarized as follows: 1- Development and strengthening of the website: we think that a valid support on the web, accessible to all, enabling the data storage and the intuitive search of video lessons and training aid, can be a decisive step forward for our project. The service, that the students who are not part of the association will access only on payment, will be available in different languages, depending on the members and relationships. All this is aimed not only to financial gain, but also to an increase in the prestige of the institutions involved. 2- Creation of a database: thus the users can register autonomously, and insert their curriculum vitae, which will be translated into several languages and will be organized systematically by sector and area of responsibility. Creazione di un database: in questo modo gli utenti potranno registrarsi autonomamente, ed inserire i loro curricula vitae, che saranno tradotti in più lingue e verranno organizzati sistematicamente per settore e ambito di competenza. The database can be accessed easily by businesses looking for staff in order to encourage the exchange and the mobility of International professionals. In this way companies may have provided the most competent people to perform a particular activity, setting the search according their most functional criterions. 3- Huge possibilities for the use of associated: we can handle a very large number of translations (the language groups are: (Albanian, Arabic, Bulgarian, Chinese, Czech, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbo-Croatian, Slovak, Spanish, Ukrainian, on the rise) on many areas in which we are competent, such as: - telecommunication - tourism - hospitality industry - food - fashion - automotive industry - field of art and literature As a matter of fact people who already have work experience in these areas are part of our association – split into language groups led by native speakers – and who have accumulated a considerable background of knowledge in the field mentioned above. One of the beliefs of our association is the necessity and the opportunity to think big, opportunity – how our work will demonstrate – don’t have to be denied to anyone, especially when, behind a project, big dreams and estimated life are hidden. The peculiarity of GRADg is that, unlike other associations of mediators with similar purposes, it doesn’t work only “from” and “to” the country of origin, but it intends to put in touch different countries, sometimes with little connection between them. more

Resolved Question: Help....translation i don't know if it is correct?

is this translation from italian correct. can you tell me the parts to change. (sorry if it's long) Dear Rector, We wish to inform you about the activities and the objectives of our brand new association. Naples, the city where GRADg is located, constitutes today a crucial hub for Mediterranean and international migration flows, calling to mind, in a way, some aspects of New York in the last century, constituting a real “melting pot”, inhabited by different ethnic groups, cultures and customs. It is within this scenario that the GRADg project has been set up, on the initiative of graduate and undergraduate students of the Università degli studi di Napoli L’Orientale, one of the centres of academic excellence in Italy in the study of foreign languages. Most of the members of our association comes from this university, which also contains students from Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, La Parthenope and Suor Orsola Benincasa. The GRADg constitutes as a youthful anti-unemployment search party, pursuing young recent graduate and undergraduate students whose goal is to enter the world of work. Through arrangements with universities from all over the world and, relying on the work of a large body of native speakers – as well as competent and qualified experts representing various continental and international languages – the GRADg intends to serve as a bridge between nations in achieving cultural, financial and commercial changes. It further purposes to set up arrangements between universities and companies for professional exchanges among young graduates from different countries, which will be fruitful for all parts involved. The association is constantly seeking new skills to be included in the circuit, and the University "L'Orientale" is an inexhaustible supply of young people who have achieved a high academic level. The structural and economic crisis – that according to many analysts is far from over – has created very high levels of new unemployment, while professionals have ceased altogether to exist. In this context, our goal is to create incentives and means to generate jobs through a network which connects businesses and institutions with experts in various fields. Then, the expansion beyond the borders – young people seem to have understood – represents the new frontier which will allow everybody to face this raging economic crisis, especially if it is addressed to the developing countries, or newly industrialized, along an idea of cooperation and collaboration which will be useful to both players of these exchanges. In fact, one of the most concrete and important purposes of the GRADg is precisely to provide support to companies which have interest in expanding abroad through the growth and outsourcing of the market, addressing mainly to areas that offer a very wide range of commercial possibilities and intend to be potentially one of the main actors of the world affairs of the next decades. Moreover, supporting the government entities which deal with the integration of the immigrants on the national territory is not secondary. The GRADg is anti-unemployment search, through open-minded projects, willingness to be open to new culture in a productive dynamic, promotion of opportunities of work, internships in repertory companies on the territory, development and expansion of activities abroad: our association offers all means (language skills, affability, sector-based and bureaucratic knowledge) as well as the necessary skills for a serene and correct integration between people while respecting the interests of all. Let’s summarize schematically all the goals that our association intends to pursue: 1- Provide, the education system of MESI, the possibility to train the students both Italy and other countries: activate, for each one of them, projects and concrete contacts. Let them study in other countries, developing a system for distance learning too, by using new technologies – videoconferences and other data transmission devices – in order to exchange information, applicable skills in the world of work, and by creating synergies between the different realities and their procedures. One of the main innovations is properly to use technology to make models of instant interaction, which will allow you to avoid practical, bureaucratic and economic problems, inherent in the geographical shift. 2- Propose – thanks to a deepen knowledge of the national territory – projects and internships to those interested in enlargement and development of their own skills, through a continuous process of updating that also involves cooperation with other institutional and private. 3- Capitalize the skills gained in the process of obtaining the qualification: it offers a continuous exchange of information and knowledge between experts of various countries, who have conducted a study path in the same field, to get the different methods and their limits, and then complement each other at last. 4- Ins more

Resolved Question: more lies from so called scientist?

The International Panel on Climate Change - IPCC was forced this weekend to admit it's key claims about Himalayan glaciers would melt by 2035 was lifted from a 1999 magazine article, an interview with a little-known Indian scientist Syed Hasnain who has admitted his views were speculation, without any research. The chairman of IPCC Dr. Rajendra Pachauri who has been described as" the worlds top climate scientist" doesn't have any formal science qualifications, he has a phd in economics and is a former railway engineer. I suppose the economics bit comes in handy as he has a network of business interests which attract millions of pounds in funding, thanks to IPCC policies. Pachauri denies any conflict of interest arising from his various roles. Last year the Indian Government issued its own scientific research showing that the glaciers weren't melting any more than usual, IPCC dismissed this report as Voodoo science! Our country is bankrupt, we can't pay our bills, we've borrowed billions from China, our citizens have no compunction about getting into debt - they see and feel no shame in financial mismanagement and why should they when the government is such a bad example? Resolved Question: Should TNA focused on being a pro wrestling company?

TNA has to be an alternative to sports entertainment. I if was in charge in TNA or become Dixie Carter's business partner i would I want TNA to focus on wrestling only and become a pro wrestling company like ROH not be like WWE To be a female wrestler for my company, you must be a great wrestler and cannot be a model/dancer/playmate. All you will see is wrestling and not talking. Everyone will wrestle at the best of their abilities in 10+ minute matches. My show will have 2 x division matches, 2 women's matches, 2 tag team matches and 2 matches featuring the heavyweight division You win because of your wrestling skill and not because someone booked you to win the match. No factions Everyone proving that they are the best in the world in their respected divisions No jobbers. Every championship and championship match will be important If you win a title or retain your title then you will receive a trophy and certificate just like wrestling is treated in Japan I treat wrestling like a sport TNA will be on a network that everyone has. You only get a contract if you are a great wrestler No outside interference, No hitting the ref and you must shake your opponents hand before the match and after the match you will see wrestling on impact and not talking If you lose a championship then you will move down the mountain and someone else get a title shot and you must earn a title shot and no rematch clauses The tag division will feature the best tag teams in the world. The x division will feature the best x division type wrestlers in the world. Don't sign old wrestlers. The women's division will feature the best female wrestlers in the world. My company will be the future of pro wrestling in the US no kayfabe stuff The goal is not to make your opponent look good. The main event will feature the heavyweights division, the week after that my women's division will be in the main event and the same thing goes for the x and tag division I would hire the best young talent in the world from Japan, America, Mexico and ROH I would keep the six sided ring. No jobbing to other wrestlers TNA will be in magazines, espn and on the news A.J. Styles, Alex Shelley, Amazing Red, Austin Aries, Brother Devon, Brother Ray, Brutus Magnus, Chris Sabin, Consequences Creed, D'Angelo Dinero, Daniels, Desmond Wolfe, Doug Williams, Colt Cabana, Eric Young, Hernandez, Homicide, James Storm, Jay Lethal, Jeff Hardy, Jeff Jarrett, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kiyoshi · Kurt Angle, Matt Jackson, Matt Morgan, Nick Jackson, Tyler Black, Robert Roode, Brian Danielson, Samoa Joe, Shannon Moore, Chris Hero, Sting, Kaz, Tomko, CM Punk and many more great talent TNA Knockouts Division Alissa Flash, Angelina Love, Awesome Kong, Daffney, Hamada, Sara Del Rey, Daizee Haze, O.D.B., Roxxi, Sarita, Tara, Taylor Wilde, The Canadian Ninjas and The International Home Wrecking Crew. Tag Teams The International Home Wrecking Crew, The Canadian Ninjas, Awesome Kong and Hamada, Beer Money, Inc., The British Invasion, Generation Me Hernandez and Matt Morgan, Lethal Consequences, The Motor City Machine Guns, Sarita and Taylor Wilde and Team 3D. I will hire TNA's Scott Damore and Matt Conway to be the bookers and writers. It is all about the wrestlers in the world and not old wrestlers over 50 except for Sting more

Resolved Question: Which of these courses will give me a better chance of finding a job?

ok. I just recently graduated college with a diploma in general business which really means nothing. So I am going back to school this month and I am not sure what to study. I am thinking of specialising in something like Financial Planning (also a diploma). However I think a lot of people are graduating with degrees in the business field and someone like me with a diploma would not have much of a chance in getting a job. My other option is the Information Technology Applications and Technical Support course. But this is only a 51-week Certificate program. Since its a technical skill I probably have a better chance of getting a job after graduating. What do you guys think? This is the course description if you are interested; "The program will address fundamental skills in a number of areas including operating systems such as Windows and Linux, Health and Safety, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Electrical/Electronics, Soldering, Customer Service, Networking, Computer Maintenance, Job Search, Web Page Design, and Documentation. The graduate will be able to participate in technical conversations, install, configure, and operate standard office software applications and maintain the hardware components of office personal computers. They will be qualified to setup and maintain a standard networking system, create a full document system for tracking hardware/software and service calls, control and safety measures, and be capable of training staff. They would also learn how to design and maintain interactive web sites. In some of the program courses, students follow the curriculum from the International Computer Driving Licence program. Those students who successfully pass the ICDL examinations will receive International Computer Driving Licence Certificates from ICDL." more

Resolved Question: english teachers please?

ok i have had to do this essay 4 times and i don't want to do it again. so if you have any advice on how to improve it. the thing in the parentheses are in-text citation. so here it is: BOOM!! Everyone turns and look and down goes the World Trade Center falling, before their eyes. This epic event has changed our life forever. It caused major heath issues for many people. It also started what is now called The War On Terrorism. As well as making big safety precautions come into play. This distressing event has changed our lives forever through heath issues, a war and safety measures. After the attack people started having heath related issues. Some now are now dying of lung disease 8 years later. There is not much they can do about it at this point(Eight). There was also a report that 30% of New Yorkers suffered post-traumatic stress disorder. Over the next six months this came in the form of sleeping disorders, nightmares, alienation or estrangement and depressions.   This is an unverifiable incidence since PTSD sufferers may not be aware (9/11). Whether or not a person can be medically classified as such, there is no denying that there are major emotional effects for many people.   A cataclysmic event has a subconscious consequence of making us aware of the fragility of our existence.   This is a moment to gain perspective on life and focus on those things that really matter.   Most prominent is the need to connect with loved ones.   Patriotism, altruism and religious spiritualism figure too. This has affected the lives of many new Yorkers who have an impact on us at a distance. And the list of heath related issues are huge. Who knew so much sickness could come from one event. This also started the war on terrorism the stated objectives of the war in the US are to protect the citizens of the US and allies, to protect the business interests of the US and allies at home and abroad, break up terrorist cells in the US, and disrupt the activities of the international network of terrorist organizations made up of a number of groups under the umbrella of al-Qaeda (War). this effected us by sending troops into Iraq and Afghanistan and taking them away from their families and not giving them real jobs and possibly effecting the products we rely on everyday. And putting money towards the war in a bad economy and wasting money.(War) as well as possibly make enemies with other countries by fighting on their soil and starting future wars. The war on Terrorism continues today and remains the main story in the media as people sit and watch the war against terrorism. More safety precautions came into play after the attack and these are still are a big part of our normal life today. The airport wont allow you to have any bottles 3 oz. or bigger (prohibited). The event also started the US Patriot Act. The Act increases the ability of law enforcement agencies to search telephone, e-mail communications, medical, financial, and other records; eases restrictions on foreign intelligence gathering within the United States; expands the Secretary of Treasury’s authority to regulate financial transactions, particularly those involving foreign individuals and entities; and enhances the discretion of law enforcement and immigration authorities in detaining and deporting immigrants suspected of terrorism-related acts (USA). We lose major privacy and have to be careful about what we say and no one wants to think while they talk. Another thing that was created after 9/11 was the Department of Homeland Security is a Cabinet department of the United States federal government with the primary responsibilities of protecting the territory of the U.S. from terrorist attacks and responding to natural disasters (United). So now the government is trying to be safer and make sure that another disaster like this will never happen again. On a last note the 9/11 event still effects us today and will continue to do so. So much pain and suffering has come from this event, with heath issues as well as a war. But has made America stronger with the USA patriot act and homeland security. So even in dark times there will always be a light at the end of the tunnel, we just have to keep going. more

Resolved Question: Is amnesty looking more and more possible Hundreds march in Arizona in favor of immigration reform?

Tucson, Arizona, Dec 10 (EFE).- Tired of promises and being the target of laws that seek to criminalize them, hundreds of immigrants took to the streets here and in other Arizona cities on Thursday to call for quick approval of immigration reform. "Today is International Human Rights Day and so we're marching to defend our rights," Jennifer Allen, Arizona director of the Border Action Network, told Efe. "We also want our senators and politicians to fight for our rights and be leaders promoting - and pressuring for - approval of immigration reform," the activist said. In Tucson, about 100 people, most of them woman pushing baby carriages or strollers, marched to the local offices of Republican Sen. Jon Kyl from where they then walked about eight miles to the offices of his colleague, John McCain. The group delivered at the offices of both lawmakers the names of 13,000 residents of southern Arizona who are asking for their support for immigration reform that will regularize the status of the millions of undocumented immigrants who live and work in the United States. "Arizona is one of the states with many anti-immigrant forces, with state laws that penalize undocumented people, so it's from here that a 'call' has to go out to defend the basic rights of every individual which are human rights," Allen said. On Nov. 24, a state law entered into force that obligates employees at government agencies in Arizona to report to immigration authorities undocumented people who come to their offices to request public benefits. The implementation of the law is generating fear and lack of confidence among immigrant families who come to government offices to ask for help like food stamps for their U.S.-born children. "Many people are afraid of asking for basic services. The mothers are even afraid of taking their children to medical appointments. This is one of several effects of the anti-immigrant wave we're experiencing," the activist emphasized. Yolanda Medrano said she came to the march to fight for the rights of the children since, in her opinion, "there are many people" in Arizona who do not want the children of undocumented people to have any rights. It is expected that next week Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) will present an immigration reform bill in the U.S. House of Representatives. "We want immigration reform, so that all these attacks against our community stop," Graciela Bernal told Efe. The Tucson resident said she had a friend whom authorities arrested in her own home after she had gone to a government office to request public benefits. "We've been waiting for immigration reform for years, and nothing ever happens," she said. Arizona is one of the states with the greatest number of laws against illegal immigration, among them sanctions on employers that penalize businesses that knowingly hire undocumented people. In Arizona, undocumented people must pay foreign student tuition when they enroll in universities and community colleges. "It's very sad what is happening in Arizona. We're seeing many families who are being separated because one or both of the parents have been deported," said Maria Valenzuela, the mother of three small children. She added that many of her neighbors were interested in participating in the march but they were too afraid to thereby potentially publicly label themselves as undocumented immigrants and decided to stay at home. more

Resolved Question: Is Fox News really not an arm of the Republican Party?

I mean, the GOP have asked the Chief of Fox News to run for President in 2012 and become the Republican party leader, and now this: A Fox News host is scheduled to make several appearances next week at events and forums where he will "discuss the dangers of government-forced health care," alongside the head of the anti-tax and anti-health care reform group Americans for Prosperity. John Stossel, a former co-anchor of ABC's 20/20, is hosting a new show on the Fox Business Network called "Stossel," which is described as featuring "in-depth reports on domestic and international libertarian issues" like civil liberties, the business of health care and Social Security. The network refers to Stossel as a journalist on its website---in fact, "one of the most talented and thought-provoking journalists in the field." But some, like The Plum Line's Greg Sargent, wonder whether the network that "is embroiled in a high-profile battle with the White House over its legitimacy as a news outlet" should be allowing "one of its proudly touted journalists to participate in an event decrying Obama’s health care reform proposals as 'government-forced health care.'”Um, dude with the Stossel comment: Stossel is the Fox News Host appearing at the rallies. Resolved Question: JD or MBA? Would like input!?

So @ my school, we have a program where if you have a 3.9 GPA or higher and declare your major in your sophmore year, you can get your masters degree and bachelors at the same time, granted you spend an extra year as an "undergraduate" so to speak taking graduate classes. My school while rising in the ranks (t60), its international studies department is top 8 in the country. I'm quadlingual and am almost certain that i will be getting into the field of international business or consulting down the road as i have worked and interned over the summers, and done some minor deals on the side. These languages happen to be Mandarin, English, Hebrew, and Spanish so its very well rounded....and more importantly, i've been making connections in the far east for quite some time building my network. I'm going to be 23 when i graduate and while i have alot of time ahead of me, i am warry of staying in school too long and not getting started with my career. When i graduate in a year, i'll have the following: Minor in Biology Bachelors in International Studies with Concentration in Economics and trade Masters of Global Finance and Economic Integration I guess this is where the road forks...i do have a keen interest in both of these paths...and i'll play the pros and cons 1.) JD - Pros? Plays well to my strength, no need to dable with work experience, i'll graduate when im 26. Cons? slightly unusable in its state although if i got an LLM in international law...i would be in business. 2.) MBA. Pros? fits my current completed coursework beautifully. I've already been focused on these types of courses for years. Cons? Requires 2 years of work experience which while no bad rears an ugly economic reality. I'll be 27 when i'm done with it! Any Ideas? I mean i realize in the grand scheme 1 year is not a big deal, but i am at somewhat of an impasse. Thoughts? I've been researching those JD/MD programs, but i really don't want to be in school until im almost 30...Too much. CN: Quadlingual INTS M.A. wants to get good "combo" degree...help! Would most likely want to get into the "trade" of trading biotech properties and contracts overseas.top 10-15 wharton etc... more

Resolved Question: what title should I put on my business card?

I am a third year university student looking for part time work as a columnist for international lifestyle magazines or weekend newspapers, but at the moment I barely have a professional network to refer me to jobs. In Jakarta, Indonesia, it seems that having personal connections to prospective employers is far more important than having the right skills and qualifications for it. Anyway, I do not want to wait until I actually get a fixed job somewhere, because that might take ages, so I've decided to start freelance. I am still attending classes at the university, so a job that requires me to be at an office 9-to-5 plus extra work on the evenings might not work anyway. But I am free Tuesday-Thursday from 13.00 till evening, and Friday before 14.30, and I should be able to produce a lot of money-making work in those times. I am a very good writer in many subjects, proficient in English and proper Indonesian--those skills alone are actually in demand, and not many people in Jakarta actually have them at the level I do. In addition to that, I speak 5 Indonesian dialects, fluent Dutch, and understand most western European languages at a basic level. I am especially good at inspirational writings on daily life, reporting current happenings with depth and reflection, and also attractively packaging subjects (music, events, hangout places, products) with a strong branding and marketing message. I'm also a good essayist. Given these qualities, I'm convinced that Jakarta has a place for me as a professional writer, but I don't know many prospective employers and have not published any material in the mass media thus far (apart from a personal blog mainly read by people who know me.) OK, so here's the deal. I want to spend the next couple of months establishing my professional reputation as a journalist, but I have no professional affiliation or published works yet to show for. What do title do I put on my business card? What questions should I anticipate, and how do I explain them? In the meantime, what can I do to expand my network as fast as possible and get somewhere in my career (i.e. some reasonable in between steps I should aim for)? I want to write for Esquire, Maxim, TimeOut, Elle, or Harper's Bazaar... but in the meantime I really would write anywhere for experience, and hopefully some reasonable pay too. Any tips? more

Resolved Question: Shouldn't individual subsribers to LTTE funded "investments" start turning in assets as well as information?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/8199754.stm The entire fraud/collusion/illegal activity net is about to fall as well as information regarding off shore banking activity. If Federal and International authorities have to back search to find these individual parties that subscribed to larger networks the penalties could be much greater than if the individuals who were coerced to place 5-10K into a fund came clean now. In the US I call for all the Tamil gas station owners, many of whom have already come to federal notice due to credit card fraud, to start revealing your involvements, next all the people involved in the health/medical industry, next shopkeepers and grocers that have been forced into a mafia style racket and so on...the idea is to regain your asset if it was forcibly taken from you and to bring to federal authorities those who have practiced these coercive tactics against your businesses and families. This is going to reach up the echelons of Tamil political circles because those individuals have not only been targeting individuals due to race and religion but dealing on very close basis with International Terrorist Organizations for their own profits at great duress and loss to individual citizens. It is a great time to start talking and recover control of your businesses and lives. The Federal Hotline for the Anti-terrorism Task Force and the Department of State are great places to lodge information and complaints. Interpol also has foreign desks in many regions that compalints and information can be lodged as well as Sri Lanka embassies at many international locales. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/8199754.stm http://colombotoday.com/english/articles/Lite/KP-assistant-arrested-overseas---Divaina/5222.htm Sri Lanka is calling for the arrest and repatriation of these well known LTTE operatives in the US and Australia. more

Resolved Question: Does Chinese leadership use its mafia gangs to establish covert links with terrorist organizations?

This article seems to suggest so http://www.rense.com/general85/chin.htm China's military also has linked up with elements of Chinese organized crime elements as well as various terrorist organizations in Latin America. "China's military planners have long advocated the dirty business of utilizing narcotics traffickers, international organized crime networks and terrorist organizations - such as the shadowy al-Qaida network - that could sap a great superpower of its financial strength, military confidence and national morale," more

Resolved Question: How do illegals come up with paying $20,000 to cross border?

Southern Arizona is seeing a surge in illegal border crossers, not from Mexico, but China. According to Border Patrol, Chinese immigrants are willing to pay smugglers top dollar, tens of thousand of dollars a piece. International smugglers guide them from The Peoples Republic of China to Mexico and into Arizona. Recent hot beds for illegal border crossers include Nogales, Ajo, Lukeville and Sasabe. On average, Mexican nationals pay coyotes up to $3,000 to guide them across the border and into the United States. Immigrants from the People's Republic of China are charged much, much more. Mario Escalante with U.S. Border Patrol says, "The smuggling organizations charge anywhere from $20 to $30 thousand." That's $20 to $30 thousand per immigrant, depending on how they're smuggled in and the quality of their fake documents. It's a lucrative business for international smugglers. At the Tucson coordination center, between three and four hundred illegal immigrants are processed each day. All are interviewed, fingerprinted, and then bussed to Florence, Arizona to go before a judge. According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement if no prior immigration or criminal record, they a plane ticket back to their home country. The average cost is $730 dollars per passenger. But if the immigrant poses a safety risk, they're escorted by ICE agents on the plane. It's all paid for by the U.S. government and your tax dollars. In the first five months of this fiscal year 969 Chinese immigrants have been apprehended by Border Patrol nationally. Already way ahead of last year's numbers when 836 were arrested. Of those, 30 were removed from Arizona and flown back to China, according to ICE. Check out fiscal year 2005, broken down by citizenship: Nationally 2,200 from The People's Republic of China were arrested. 31,000 from Brazil 39,000 from El Salvador Nearly 53,000 from Honduras and more than 1,000,000 from Mexico. John Morton with ICE says, "Every indication is that they are coming here through sophisticated criminal networks that are charging these individuals enormous sums of money and holding them in deplorable conditions." "They're not told they're going thru travel in the desert for four to five days without water," adds Escalante. Instead, Escalante says naive immigrants put their lives on the line and in the hands of smugglers who promise them new opportunity and a better life. http://www.kvoa.com/global/story.asp?s=10800572Game Over03 you ex girl friend Gidget was right, you are creepy..No wonder she dumped you- She told me about U-lol more

Resolved Question: I'm a latecomer at kicking off my career, where should I start?

Three simple questions, but please excuse the details. I'm 24 years old, female, living in Jakarta Indonesia, and a sophomore in college studying communication management. I'm quite knowledgeable at basic business administration, public relations, marketing, world cultures, philosophy and public speaking, and am a gifted trilingual. Previous jobs I've had include hosting a radio talk show, producing a theatre production, hosting concerts and seminars as master of ceremony (MC), interpreting, translating, make up artist, and HR intern at a small company marketing consumer goods. The problem is, I've never achieved anything consistently significant in these jobs because they're mostly project based and I didn't network enough to consistently have projects on my plate. And because I always seem to be starting over, I've never made enough money to support myself either. Other challenges that have stopped me from launching a career were mostly personal, such as abusive relationships, family conflict, and very frequent international relocations in my late teens & early twenties. While I've done my best to detach my private life from my professional setting, I still subconsciously carry a lot of emotional baggage that I don't even know is there. This has affected the way I make decisions and relate to people. I am, however, getting help in dealing with this baggage, and expect that I will recover once I start seeing results in my professional life (i.e. reputation, sustainable achievements, and money). I had meant to start working last year, but abandoned a pending job offer orted the plan when I got trapped into producing a theater production for a businessman who casted this vision of a great theater company but did nothing to follow it up. Before this, my confidence level in entering the workforce had been recovering and I was excited about starting to work... but since the theater company didn't work out as expected, I feel like a loser who had been cheated on again. However, I don't want to create an identity as one who never finishes what she started, so we decided to press on by doing street performances for charity. In the meantime I will spend less time working there and more time on finding a real job that I love, makes a difference in the lives of others, and makes money. The thing is, at this point I feel lost, and need to recover my confidence that had corroded when the theater company missed my expectations. If I didn't feel that way, I could probably see my options more clearly and have more courage to make wise decisions. I want a career that fits my talent and passion (i.e. writing, speaking, and conceptualising creative ideas). Other than creative writing and public speaking, I don't really have much experience or expertise, but I do know a little bit about a lot of stuff and am a fast learner. People have told me that I am intelligent, good looking, and drive extra miles to produce excellent results. I prefer jobs that aren't set in an office, are deadline oriented but flexible with hours and methods, and facilitate me to meet a myriad people who are beneficial to my professional network. Anyhow, it boils down to these three questions: 1. What jobs should I consider, where can I learn more about them, and how can I network so that I can consistently have plenty of options when it comes to choosing my projects? 2. Which competitive edges should I sell, so that people will want to hire me although I'm about to hit quarter life and have limited experience? 3. What are some practical things I can do to pick myself up so I don't get too bogged down with the emotional baggage and have more confidence & energy to break through with my career? Thank you so much! God bless you. more

Resolved Question: Is this true? Welcome to BarryWorld?

Anyone as puzzled as I was about all the media hype on our new Administration, or notice the media does not ask our new Administration any challenging questions? There's been a great deal of censorship in the news, and on the Internet, it forums and newspapers in the past few months, and we are losing our freedom of speech quickly. Is this why all the deaths at Disneyland and Disney World don't get reported? Walt Disney Productions is one of Obama's largest money contributors - the donations below do not include the contributions by the companies owned by Disney. And take a look below to see what media Disney owns: http://www.opensecrets.org/pres08/search.php?cid=N00009638&name=%28all%29&employ=Walt+Disney&state=%28all%29&zip=%28any+zip%29&submit=OK&amt=a&sort=A Walt Disney Productions owns the media companies below. Any wonder you cannot believe anything you read anymore? Think twice before buying anything "Disney" - because that's who's running this Country now. And we wonder why the theme park continues to flourish with so many children's deaths that don't even shut down a ride for a day? - the majority not being reported. And this is who is now stifling our ability to speak out as well. Resolved Question: Can you please comment on my first two paragraphs for a story?

Hey I am an amateur writer who has only recently began writing. Can you please comment on my first two paragraphs. Really appreciate it! Descending frantically across an extensive network of rolling plains lay a bending, ancient mountain range dominating the horizon for countless miles upon end. Characterized by jutting, limestone cliffs which soared to majestic heights, they were a genuine marvel to all lucky enough to view them. They were surrounded by transparent, voluminous clouds which rolled by carelessly in the oceanic tinted sky, flittering past without a care for the earthly happenings occurring below. The sky was illuminated with the glorious trappings of a sun which had persistently been welcoming the arrival of summer with bountiful quantities of heat, basking the region in a glowing and healthy aura worthy of any competing tropical destination. Lush vegetation began sprouting and emerging triumphantly from the earth paving the countryside and surrounding greenery in unparalleled visceral displays of color and beauty. The boundaries of life remained comfortably static and unhinged with nothing threatening to disrupt this apparent perfect balance. As always business was booming in the town of Abbeyville as the important and highly significant tourist season had entered into full swing. Salivating shop owners rejoiced at the sight of unwitting holiday goers seeking to dispense and forego their highly prized wads of cash in return for overpriced, worthless souvenirs. Untold quantities of wealth had accumulated in this diminutive, little town over the years as the tourist industry became a primary and necessary source of income for its residents. Adjacent roadways and streets became battlegrounds as numerous vendors and salespeople vied and competed for shopper’s attentions. Strategically announcing discounts and utilizing underhand business methods were trusted tactics in rounding up and identifying potential sales. Swathes of underpaid and exhausted employees fought heroically and hilariously with each other hoping desperately to score that exceedingly anticipated goal of achieving a completed transaction with an unknowing victim. An actual sale would potentially culminate with an award of commission for their hard work and tireless labor. Abbeyville was a reputable, exciting and enthralling tourist destination, egotistically boasting countless cultural and historical antiquities which wholeheartedly guaranteed a substantial and everlasting market of both local and international travelers. These attractions and facilities ensured that heaps of money continued to flow immeasurably into the local community. Golden, lustrous sands saturated the beachfront and the clear, pristine waters of the ocean offered a selection of aquatic activities to please thrill seekers and swimmers alike. The town’s proximity to the exquisite seafront and it’s dazzling, uncompromised scenery virtually ensured the vicinity would constantly be awash with sightseers and visitors seeking solace in its otherworldly and idyllic surroundings. The everlasting and seemingly never-ending school year had ceremoniously come to an end, and this conclusion heralded joyous sighs of relief from the entire student demographic as another rudimentary term had finally come to a close. Wide eyed teenagers flirted relentlessly with the vivid conception of an unbridled summer where the cruel and ferocious rules and regulations which chained and tangled their existence throughout the preceding months would at long last become unburdened providing a short-lived and relatively uneventful era of peace and tranquility, free from tests, textbooks and the dreaded teachers, whom they had secretly and adoringly come to love. Overbearing, ornate and sterile hallways stretching in all noticeable directions were filled with the merry sounds of excitable students examining and analyzing their potential options for the coming months, gathering ideas and calibrating disaster proof itineraries to perpetuate a successful and unforgettable vacation. Creatinand completing a precise and exact timetable of events provided a stable and constructive foundation in which every minute detail could be solidified into a realistic scenario to adequately assess the probability that any unforeseen, embarrassing moments suffered throughout this wonderful and long-lasting break would not translate into utter, unbearable humiliation once the new school year miserably restarted. Scurrying footsteps drenched the halls in noise and created a hurried sense of urgency as pupils raced to empty their lockers. This widespread collection of underutilized stationary and copybooks was a yearly ritual, celebrated unanimously as the beginning of something new and exciting. Everybody seemed to be in good spirits, gossiping uncontrollably about their planned foreign holidays and expensive trips but for one lonely individual, the coming months brought nothing but increased pressure and a certain whiff of despair. Peter Pettyflow was an awkward, troublesome boy labeleda danger by his peers and teachers. Suffering from a lack of attention at both home and school, he resorted to desperate measures in order to become known. Creating trouble wherever he dared to venture, his existence was akin to a shadow roaming aimlessly among normal, happy people. Yearning for somebody to confide in, Peter’s social life was nonexistent and categorically empty. Walking through the long, winding corridors seemed like more than a simple stroll, it was an obstacle course in which everybody wanted to hurt him. Heading straight toward a bunch of perfectly manicured girls, Peter expected abuse and began experiencing animated, distinct hot flushes. ‘’Hey Peter! What are you doing for the summer?’’ Screeched Julia, a tough, built girl with biceps bigger than most of the boys. Almost immediately a callous, broad smirk swept across her featureless face as she already knew the answer. The stench of sarcasm was unbearable. ‘’I don’t know yet but hopefully it doesn’t involve you!Peter declared pretentiously with a noticeably artificial grin. Almost immediately all of her so-called friends began to cackle loudly while Julia threatened severe beatings to whoever mocked her. Despite suffering a spate of nasty and debilitating comments over the years from practically all of his peers, Peter still was a force to be reckoned with when insults came his way. Thanks everyone I am trying a lot of different styles at the moment and this is just one....i do agree that it sounds forced and over complicated but I was just seeing how people would react to this style..the comments here have really helped though. I will post up some more writing another day so can everyone comment because these tips are actually very good! more
