"Visitors will be walking down the street and see the Sagamo," says retired entrepreneur Don Oliver, a local boy who grew up to establish the national Collacutt Luggage chain.
"They're going shopping," he says. "They're not paying much attention. Then they go: `Hey – that's made up of a whole bunch of little pictures.'"
The wall ranks as one of Canada's most surprising roadside attractions, overlooking a spot once known as "the hub," the busiest set of docks in the Muskoka Lakes.
Dignitaries unveiled the mosaic three years ago with great local fanfare but outsiders are discovering it only slowly by word-of-mouth.
The photographs document a 100-year sweep of Port Carling history, from 1860 to 1960. Early pictures of log cabins and bearded homesteaders begin at one corner, at the main street, and progress over time right to left. more

Resolved Question: Is it possible to transfer from a UK university to a US university in the middle of an undergrad degree?
I'm currently reading management at City University London (Cass Business School) , which is one of the top ranked in the UK for their undergraduate management program. I have an SAT score of 2210. I studied the IB diploma at an international school and although I have a good final score in my IB diploma my high school GPA is low (3.1). However my grades at university have been excellent so far and far better than what I had at school I'll finish my first year at City University soon and I would really like to transfer to the US for the remaining portion of my degree. Would it be possible for me to do so? And also will I lose one year and have to repeat the first year or can I join the second year of a management/ business major degree in the US ? moreOpen Question: democracies r on disease virus:" cat on a hot tin roof syndrome": why? how? see below or pl answer.ok?

'm graduating this semester with 3.36 GPA. My school is ranked around the 80s by the US News for its undergraduate business program. I double majored in Accounting and Finance. My goal is to get into a top MBA program (not necessarily HBS or Stanford, but the likes of Kellogg, Columbia, UCLA, or even Stern and USC would be just great). Now, assuming I get a high GMAT score (670+), which I would invest alot of time to attain, what kind of work experience would help me the most to get into a top MBA? I have two options, either to work for 1) a Sovereign Wealth Fund; or for 2) PwC on the financial advisory side. I intend to work there for about 2 - 3 years. Many people told me that a Sovereign Wealth Fund work experience would be prestigious, unique, and surely differentiate you from other applicants as admission committees are looking for diversity in backgrounds to bring in a different perspective in class (what are the odds that there is another international applicant having the same background in an SWF?). However, others told me that PriceWaterHouseCoopers is very prestigious and highly reputable firm in financial advisory (and big 4 in actg), and admission committees at the top schools still hold notions that working for a big consulting firm is the best you can bring to the table along with I-banking. So, which of these backgrounds would help me the most (taking into consideration my undergrad) to get into to a top MBA? What might impress an admission committee more? moreVoting Question: I'm looking for a university that matches my interests/grades?
-I want to major in international business, and minor in languages. -I'm looking for a 4 year undergraduate school, preferably in Florida or California, but thats only a preference. -Looking for a small school in an urban or suburban setting(private school preferred, like around 2000-5000 undergrads) -I have a 4.0 GPA(top 10% class rank) -My SAT scores are not great, but above average. I am not good with standardized testing. -I would like to study abroad if they have a program for that(Would love to study England, Italy, or Japan) -Ivy League schools would be a little stretch for me to apply to, however I am looking for a very good school close to Ivy League. So @ my school, we have a program where if you have a 3.9 GPA or higher and declare your major in your sophmore year, you can get your masters degree and bachelors at the same time, granted you spend an extra year as an "undergraduate" so to speak taking graduate classes. My school while rising in the ranks (t60), its international studies department is top 8 in the country. I'm quadlingual and am almost certain that i will be getting into the field of international business or consulting down the road as i have worked and interned over the summers, and done some minor deals on the side. These languages happen to be Mandarin, English, Hebrew, and Spanish so its very well rounded....and more importantly, i've been making connections in the far east for quite some time building my network. I'm going to be 23 when i graduate and while i have alot of time ahead of me, i am warry of staying in school too long and not getting started with my career. When i graduate in a year, i'll have the following: Minor in Biology Bachelors in International Studies with Concentration in Economics and trade Masters of Global Finance and Economic Integration I guess this is where the road forks...i do have a keen interest in both of these paths...and i'll play the pros and cons 1.) JD - Pros? Plays well to my strength, no need to dable with work experience, i'll graduate when im 26. Cons? slightly unusable in its state although if i got an LLM in international law...i would be in business. 2.) MBA. Pros? fits my current completed coursework beautifully. I've already been focused on these types of courses for years. Cons? Requires 2 years of work experience which while no bad rears an ugly economic reality. I'll be 27 when i'm done with it! Any Ideas? I mean i realize in the grand scheme 1 year is not a big deal, but i am at somewhat of an impasse. Thoughts? I've been researching those JD/MD programs, but i really don't want to be in school until im almost 30...Too much. CN: Quadlingual INTS M.A. wants to get good "combo" degree...help! Would most likely want to get into the "trade" of trading biotech properties and contracts overseas.top 10-15 wharton etc... moreResolved Question: Prospects for journalism?
I want to start off studying international business, for my undergraduate degree. In Canada, a lot of universities don't have journalism programs, or they are for graduate degrees. I was just wondering about journalism prospects for the future, is this a good job to have? Salary? I'm assuming, starting off the pay isn't good, but I heard in the US it is more decent. Are there a lot of job opportunities in this field? What can you tell me about news anchors, that would be something to aspire to. moreVoting Question: Is southeast missouri state university good at Business program?
I am currently an undergraduate student majoring in international business at Southeast missouri state university (SEMO). Is SEMO's business program's reputation and the quality good? should I transfer to other university? I am thinking of transffering to University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Michigan state university, California state university at Fresno, or Long beach. Give me same advices please!!!!!I forgot to say that I am an international student. So I am required to pay out ou state fees to SEMO anyways...That's why I am concidering to transfer to another school. But, I agree with that most of my work success will be from how much I put into it, not the school you graduated from. Panda, Thank you for giving me an advice!! I would like to hear more advices! :) moreResolved Question: Suggestions for landing a job in higher education?
I recently graduated from college with my bachelor's degree in communications and international business. I believe that I'm pretty qualified to work at a university, and I have a game plan for my future. During my undergraduate education I worked at my admissions office where I conducted campus tours, advised students, etc... I also worked at my news office and helped in designing the layout. I participated in a study abroad program which allowed me to interact with students from many different cultures. As for my future, I plan to work a solid year doing anything at a university, being a program assistant, admissions, study abroad office, news office, etc.. pretty much anything that will give me higher education experience. I would then like to earn my master's degree in international affairs, or cross cultural communication and then be eligible to work with international students. Eventually I'd like to earn my Ph.D. So I KNOW that's what I want to do, and I've been applying for a ton of positions at universities, but I have had no responses whatsoever. A lot of the positions I apply for via the university's human resources website, and I have gotten no responses. Suggestions please????!!! I really want/need a job at university or college...! moreResolved Question: MS in Marketing (ex. Northwestern IMC, NYU Integrated Marketing)?
Hi, As an international student interested in marketing (mainly Brand Management) but who has no work experience, I was hoping to go for a masters in marketing before getting a MBA later in my life. The only TOP schools (the ones with reputable MBAs-at least top 25) with a MS in marketing I found were NorthWestern's IMC and NYU's Integrated Marketing program... Does anyone know any other MS in marketing programs from a top ranked school? In addition, I would like to know about the reputation of the two programs I mentioned above. I heard NW's IMC is a respected program in the marketing industry but compared to top MBAs (w/marketing concentration) I wonder how much it fares...As for NYU's program, I have not heard any feedbacks at all (both positive or negative) and I wonder if it is known in the business industry at all. *As a side note, the only MBA I might get right now is Cornell's accerelated MBA. I'm graduating from Cornell's undergraduate business program and they have a special option of going straight to Johnson but I was hoping to go to a much higher ranked MBA in the future instead of attending Johnson which is not that famous for marketing anyways... Hope I could receive a lot of informations from you all! Thx! moreResolved Question: What are my chances of being accepted into the undergraduate business programs of MIT/Columbia/Stanford/ Tuffs?

I am currently entering my sophomore year in college. My major is finance. I am also on the Premed track, so I am taking all the courses that are required to apply to med school. In my junior year I plan to apply to a program offered at my school for undergraduate students interested in international business. The program would help me complete a MAIB (Masters in International Business) degree in 2 years, meaning my undergraduate career would last 5 years. Following the 5th year, I would like to enter Medical School. I am not doing this program because I think it would give me an edge while applying to medical school. I really enjoy taking business classes and am happy with my choice in major. I would love to complete a masters degree in International Business. However, I want to be a doctor and would like to work in the field of medicine. I was only wondering if the Masters degree would help my chances of getting into medical school. On the other hand, would it show a lack of interest in the science field and end up hurting my chances by backfiring on me? * I would be completing all the pre-requisites for Med School and taking a few of the higher level science related courses such as Genetics, Endocrinology, and Microbiology The other concern is: When should I take the MCATs? Usually regular premed students would take it in April or August of their Spring semesters. However, because I will not be heading off to med school until a year later than my peers, should I be taking it a year later as well? moreResolved Question: How does my Grade 12 Schedule Sound?

The first step in creating my future is a proper education. For my generation, a college education will be essential, if not necessary, to find a secure, stable career. In the past, anyone could find a job, college education or not, but as more people were able to afford college education the standards in the job market increased. Some sort of education is highly preferred, even in brainless jobs, such as cashiers or food servers. To have a stable future, I need to at least obtain a bachelors degree. After graduating from High School, I plan to get a bachelor’s degree and double major in International Studies and Spanish. I would like to attend Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania. Though it is farther away from home, I believe they have an outstanding study abroad program. They were ranked #1 in the nation for the percentage of undergraduate students studying abroad in the 2008 Open Doors report. I have been invited to study abroad with a group of select students my freshman. I am also considering Miami University and Ohio State University as they are both close to my home and also offer many great study abroad and internship opportunities. I plan to study abroad or internship abroad in Japan or Spain, to better understand the world we live in and to become culturally diverse. I believe that interning and/or studying abroad will be great experiences to have, to help prepare me for a global future. It is essential for me to get a college education, because without one, I will never have the chance to work in the international field. I will never learn how to proficiently speak a different language or know how to properly conduct myself in business meetings or interviews. Working in a large business or for the United Nations will not be possible with at least a bachelor’s degree.Yet, if I do receive a college education, all of my dreams will be possible. Four years, living independently in college, would allow me to get accustomed to being responsible for myself. Not only will I receive an education, but I will also learn many life skills. With a degree, I would be a strong candidate for any job. If I learned a foreign language, I would become an even better asset to any company. But none of this is feasible without receiving and education. The only thing keeping me from achieving my goals is that I am having financial difficulties. I live in a single parent home without the aid of child support. My father is unemployed and my mother only works part-time as a clerk in Meijer’s. Though my family would like to send me to receive an education, they cannot financially afford to send me to college, even though I have already been accepted. I hope to receive enough grants and scholarships to be able to pay for most of my fees.I would also like the committee to know that I am aware of my extensive absences throughout high school. Because of my parent’s divorce and our financial difficulties my sister and I suffered many hardships, and missed many school days. My junior year I also became very sickly during 3rd quarter because of the stress of my family situation, and spent much of my time with doctors and at the children’s hospital. I believe that I am deserving of this scholarship because I have demonstrated that I have leadership skills, determination to achieve my goal, and the desire to pursue my major. I also understand how much an education can affect ones future. As the first person in my family to attend college I hope to set an example for my younger sister so she can see that we do have the chance to better ourselves. I believe that I have just as much right as anyone else to receive an education, and should not be handicapped because my family’s situation.***I think i need to place the 2nd to last paragraph somewhere else, but I am not sure where. I do need to have this note added in there because I missed a lot of days my junior year. I also think that I don't have a good (or any) conclusion....any suggestions? This scholarship money is for a 4 year university not a high schoolThanks for the advice, its part of the essay requirements lol, but it did sound like I already got it. Hi. I just recently graduated with a BA in Government (Political Science) and I have decided that it might be a good idea to get an MBA. I know that I want to concentrate in International Business, but the problem is that I didn't take a single business course in college. Also, I haven't had any math since high school. I was thinking about taking a couple of math and business courses at the local community college while also working and volunteering. I also looked into maybe getting an associate's in either business administration or international business so that I could have a basic foundation in the field. With all that being said, I am just a little confused as to whether or not this is a good idea. I don't know if going back to school at a community college will help me in my quest for an MBA. Does this sound like a good idea or just a waste of time and money? I am in desperate need for some insight seeing as though my parents are of little help (neither went to college and have very little knowledge of higher education), and the counselors at the community college are not helpful at all. They just tend to look at me like I am a raving lunatic when I explain my case. Also, one final question. Is an associate's considered an undergraduate degree? I found this exciting internship opportunity in my city with the U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Commercial Service, but it is only open to undergraduate and graduate students. Would I be eligible if I pursued an associate's? Thanks for any help in advance! moreResolved Question: business schools//undergraduate programs?

I'm a senior in college with a major in communication studies, emphasis in public relations and minor in international business. I studied abroad and took 4 semesters of French, and I have a good GPA. I also was very involved on campus and have done marketing internships. I am unsure as to whether or not I want to continue on with education right away or find a job in the "real world" first. I've always seen myself becoming a professor someday as an end goal, but maybe not immediately. I'm not sure how one pays for graduate school either, especially since they need to begin paying off their undergraduate loans. Can I work for a company who pays for my masters and then pursue my Ph D? What steps does a person take for graduate school? Is it better to work first? Should I apply to graduate programs and take the GRE now? More detailed suggestions please? moreResolved Question: REALLY NEED YOUR HELP--Proof read my resume. Thank you so much.?

I graduated in December 2006 from a top 30 undergraduate university for business. I have a couple of internships, international volunteer experience under my belt as well as one (1) year work experience with the government. I am 23 years of age. I am contemplating whether or not to take the GMAT now and go to a mediocre graduate school or to work a couple more years and apply to either Oxford, Harvard, Standford, NYU or Yale. I have done well in undergraduate and feel confident taking the GMAT. Another factor that keeps me from applying to an MBA programme right now is the average age. The average age of grad students in top ten MBA programs in the country seems to be around 28. I know being 23 doesn't automatically disqualify me but what are the chances of acceptance? Or am I better off working a couple more years and then revisiting this ambition? Any/all comments are greatly appreciated! moreResolved Question: Can I get Masters Degree in International Business with a BS in Philosophy?

Are there any lenders in the UK who offer a "PrePrime" evaluation system when considering a student borrower?
