China Mobile Begins 3G Marketing Push

China Mobile has begun the marketing push for a public beta of 3G (third-generation) telephony services, signaling that full deployment may be available soon after the Olympics.

Though the company has not yet announced when the service will start, television commercials on Beijing stations and display advertising in Beijing's subway system began appearing earlier this week, encouraging interested users to sign up for trial service. Utilizing China's homegrown TD-SCDMA (Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access), existing China Mobile customers can apply to be included in the trial.

Published rates for eventual commercial service set a 50 yuan (US$7.33) per month minimum and 0.40 yuan per minute for data charges within the user's home city. For users who choose to make video calls instead of plain voice calls, made from their home cities, charges of 0.60 yuan per minute apply, and for the first time, China Mobile will not charge users to receive calls. more

Zoran dips 15% on Q2 loss report Silicon Valley / San Jose

Stock for video chipmaker Zoran Corp. fell more than 15 percent on Tuesday after the company reported late Monday that it swung to a second-quarter loss.

Sunnyvale-based Zoran (NASDAQ:ZRAN) said it had a loss of $36.6 million, or 71 cents a share, for the quarter ending June 30. That compares to net income of $200,000 in the second quarter of 2007. Its revenue totaled $128.7 million, down slightly from $129.9 million in the year-ago quarter.

Zoran said the loss included a one time in-process research and development expense of $22.4 million as part of the acquisition of Let It Wave, charges of $9.3 million related to the amortization of acquisition-related purchased intangible assets and stock-based compensation expenses of $3.6 million.

Zoran shares were down as much as $1.63, or 17 percent, to $7.97 Tuesday before closing at $8.14, down $1.46. more

Resolved Question: How can I get my parents to quit being so nagging and controlling?

I'm 19 years old. I'm still living at home with my parents, until I move next year. All my life my parents have been excessively-controlling...never letting me do "fun" things everybody else can do etc. I never even got to go to kid's birthday parties etc or hang out with friends. My parents have also always constantly nagged....reminding me about things dozens of times when I obviously remembered after the first time. Okay, so I'm an adult now and this still continues. Even worse, my mother thinks she has to always be into my business...I can't surf the internet on my laptop without her coming into the room and either having to sit next to me to see what I'm doing or pretend she's doing something to peek over my shoulder. My dad's almost as bad. (They're bad at disguising it lol) It's getting ridiculous because I'm almost twenty now, and I've been pretty vocal in my complaints. Their excuse is that while I'm living in their house anything I do IS there business....for instance, anytime I leave the house I HAVE to tell them where I'm going. And the nagging continues. Is there anything I can do or say to convince them to quit being so nagging and controlling??!?! I'm very frustrated.Good point Elmo but I don't want to get kicked out prematurely. And my parents are white. lolYeah maybe I should be more appreciative of my parents, but still I just wish they would give me a little more space.I have a job, but they don't count it as a "real" job....because I work from home. I am new to office management, but I know that when employees aren't meeting up to the company's standards, you try to work with the employee to correct the problem(s). We have an employee who has been employed at my office since early summer. She is a good worker in the areas she enjoys... but if she doesn't like a particular task she won't do it. I have talked to her about different areas where she needs to improve. I have always been nice about it. The business owner has talked to her as well on several occasions. He has been a bit harsher than I have. In addition to ignoring some of her responsibilities, she spends way too much time on the internet. This has been addressed many times as well. She'll improve for a couple days but then we're back to the same issues. She is friendly and our clients love her but I'm tired of feeling like a babysitter. I have other things to do. Plus, she constantly complains about how she "goes above and beyond" and how it's "not recognized." I've explained that she's an adult and nobody's going to pat her on the back for doing what she's paid to do. My boss and I have had meetings about her performance, and I've told him that she's new to the workforce, will hopefully mature as time goes on, etc. but frankly I'm getting sick of everything. We're in a recession and there are plenty of people who would love her job. I like her on a personal level but I know that's irrelevant. For example, when I asked for parenting help & said I'm pregnant and needed help at home & my husband won't help me at all, (I even mentioned I'm disabled) People are all like "stop being lazy" or "I can do so you can to", or "your husband is a man, sweety, figure it out" but hardly nothing HELPFUL was said. Or Years back when I was homeless, I asked for ideas to search for resources...instead of getting answers people were saying stuff like "how are you homeless if you have internet access". They couldn't just ACCEPT that I had asked the question and given and answer. I don't see a reason to give a 3 paragraph back story to every single thing I say, it's also none of their business. With that one, most homeless have at least a library card and use the internet at the library or a friend/relative's house. Just because your homeless doesn't mean that you're retarded, broke or even totally helpless. And yea, sometimes your family just doesn't want you. A lot of teens I met were kicked out because their parents were abusive and then booted them at young ages. It just happened to occur in my life when I was 18 so I wasn't able to get many resources as a legal adult, EVEN THOUGH I WAS DISABLE THEN TOO. That makes everything harder and people still treat you like crap. Yea, it's my decision to have kids with all these problems but you never assume your partner will suddenly turn into a neglectful person when you need them the most either. On the other hand, having kids suddenly made all kinds of other resources like shelter/food/medical available to me that I never had before. I think that it's sad that nobody helps you really, before that. I'm finally down to one or two benefits that I hope to get rid of soon. The only thing is I'm sure I will have to continue applying for disability benefits if I don't find a job I can do (and if my husband never realized what he's doing) as things with me are only getting worse. I feel like I am holding myself back from being mature. Today there was this girl at school I met who has her whole life planned out, has her own appartment and job, and even adopted a boy who's parents died in a car crash! My older brother was the most selfish child you could imagine and he grew up to be the most selfish adult you could imagine. I never understood why. There are 5 of us and the rest of us grew up to become good generous productive people. My parents didn't have money but they were very loving and gave everything they had to us. ❤ 7:00am my father starts getting calls from both our friend’s Personal Cellular Number AND his Landline Business Number. ❤ My father’s cell phone was in the other room so he didn’t get it until these two numbers called 4 times in a row, one after another. ❤ When my father picks up the phone, thinking it is an emergency, there is a recorded message from an Adult Video Store saying something like “If you order from us, we are discrete”. ❤ My father has never purchased porn from a mail order, internet order, phone order, etc. He has no porn videos, DVD’s, or VHS and the magazines he has he purchases from a Physical Store and pays cash… And he doesn’t have that much in the way of mags… (Creepy, I know, but I had to make 100% sure this wasn’t fraud because he used his credit card online etc. so I asked and he was honest.) Earlier tonight I read a question a 14-year-old girl had asked in Books & Authors about a disturbing story she wrote about severe physical abuse and domestic violence, and then read another question she'd asked in Adolescent and here about how to cover up welts left from a "spanking" (beating) she'd gotten from her parents for misbehaving at school so kids in her gym class wouldn't see them. I then realized that the same user had asked a question I read a couple of days ago about a story she wrote about a father raping his four-year-old daughter and then beating her, and it was really graphic and sickening. One answerer wrote that there was no way she was 14-year-old as she claimed to be because the grammar was so perfect, and even a very intelligent and precocious teen wouldn't be capable of writing a story so well crafted. Anyway, my point is that I think a 14-year-old really could have the ability to write that well, but how would you know such details about rape and abuse if you had zero experience with it? About a year ago, my Dad met a woman from the Philippines on the internet. They emailed and chatted via webcam for several months before he flew to visit her last December. He came back "very much in love" and flew her here in July. They were married in August. She is 30 years younger than he is (younger than his oldest child) and from a different culture. Resolved Question: UPS Lost my package clueless mofo's?

I'm positive my package was shipped/billed on 11/30 I paid $28 fucking dollars for 1-2 day shipping. So I called them and they said the end of a UPS business day is 11:59 P.M. it is now 11:50 P.M. here in New Jersey. I was downloading pics without saving them when I came across our temporary internet files yesterday and in the same folder were many pictures from adult websites along with pictures from websites my family frequents. My argument is that someone had to have actually been on our computer looking at these pictures. My husband however argues that people could get into our system screen and not actually be near our computer to view things and that could be how they got there. I am going back to college! (yippie?) I have about 7 years of work experience starting from my first year of college and have tons of volunteer hours. My parents are paying for my school (2 years of college for a business degree). I will be living off campus and have money for the 2 years worth of rent (hense the working for 7 years haha so I know I am able to pay the $700/month including utilities for rent). I get a $5000 student loan from the government which I plan on using to pay for internet, phone, and groceries etc. Do you think, as mature adults out there, that I would need to get a job during college? I ask because I don't want to overwhelm myself and as well I am not the greatest at school so I will need time to study but I also don't want to pay for an apartment and not have money :S That would be bad. $5000 loan would equal out to around $415/month. I usually spend $310/month of groceries/household items/dog food, cable, phone, and internet. That would leave me with $105/month. I am so used to working haha so it is weird to picture myself without a job but I also don't want to spend money on school and flunk out since I am not spending my own money. Should I a) Not get a job b) get a part time job or c) get something small like a dogwalking/paper route/ kind of job? I have friends who don't work in college but live on campus. I'm REALLY into horses and I was wondering about a sort of horse tack, barrel racing tack, sort of thing. But make my designs very pretty, girly, and equally as masculine(as in seperate girls and guys tack) I'm not much of a designer but I have a couple of friends who can draw like theres no tomorrow and I'm pretty sure I can get what I'm thinking down on paper. Bad thing about this is, there is another more popular store just like mine,BUT I also stable one of my horses and an official NBHA(national barrel horse association) site and that would do LOADS for my business I would think. But it wouldn't just be barrel tack, I would also do roping (cool colored ropes perhaps?), bull riding, etc. 2. A t-shirt, jewelry, trinket business. possibly even including horses, and I have no worries about inventory space whats so ever, I can even sell my products at the farmers market "more like a bring-your-small-business markey" every thursday right by my school. 3. I'm also into volleyball. Mabey a store with cute volleyball shirts, a large variety of colored spandex( a girl on a traveling team on my school team says they are super popular) mabey even cute colored volleyballs and knee pads, shoes, high socks, shoe laces, etc. 4. This could even be a part of the horse category, but Include other animals. Mabey even cute little doggy clothes, also for cats, ferrets, etc., cute fishy jars, cool cat toys, I really could go on and on and on about any of these topics lol 5. ooohhh and even purses, watches, jewelry, for both men and women. this could easily go into the above topics. 6. I could also make infant toys, baby items, and clotheing. which could, once again, be added into the above topics lol but yeah, these are some topics I'm seriously considering. Main Points: 1. The topics above are things I'm really interested in and would have a real drive in. 2. I'm doing this for college funding, but am certainly not going to quit after college. 3. I understand it takes alot, but I'm ready for the challenge even if I have to wait a year. 4. I have A LOT of support and will have no problem with help of starting it up. Ok, so now what has been happening is, every since July 7, 2009, I have been unable to contact him, on my end, because my father controls me. He has turned off the internet, and he has even threatened to not pay my phone bill, or even take the phone altogether. He has said, my mom and my dad, that they will disown me if I try to get back in touch with him, and here it is August, I haven't talked to him since July 7, 2009, in the right way, or properly. I miss him terribly, and a whole lot. Meanwhile, my bf has been continuing to contact me, with online chat messages, every since, and e-mails, and now he has gotten his family involved, to try to talk to me, to come back to him, but he claims through the messages, that he has told them what the situation is, but they still want to talk to me, or contact me. I want to talk to them, but I am terrified, because my dad won't let me talk to him, or them, - at all. Now my dad doesn't know anything at all about these messages, whether chat messages, or whether by e-mails, because I don't know how to approach him, and tell him, he is just completely unapproachable and intimidating to me, he just doesn't understand, I have tried to tell him how he is, and therefore, how he makes it impossible to approach him with this situation or anything regarding it at all. I am afraid of what he will do to me, if he finds out that I have been receiving messages all along, but never told him, but he is not an approachable person, so letting him know about the messages, would have been the first thing I would've done, believe me, but I already know if I tell him, he will completely and totally flip on me, for the fact that he has sent me these messages, and I have waited so long to tell him. My bf is still pursuing me, he said he wants me to come back to him, and if anybody wants to hear more about what he said, let me know, but basically, just so you know, my bf loves me, and I love him too. I miss him so much and I don't know what to do, so as to get my family to see that, or at least try to re-examine this situation with me and my bf.
