Seeing the light to make skips safer

A NORTH-EAST entrepreneur has designed a light which he believes will revolutionise the skip industry.

By law, skips placed on a road at night must be lit, but the traditional yellow lamps tend to be vandalised or stolen.

So George Main has developed the Locklite, which he believes is virtually impossible to remove from a skip.

After approaching Sunderlandbased product development company Design Right Solutions (DRS), Mr Main worked with the team to develop the low-cost light, which is secured to skips with a virtually unbreakable noose.

Mr Main said: “It makes perfect sense for skips to be lit at night to avoid accidents, but the lights that have been used historically are costly, easily damaged and crude in design.

“I heard many stories from skip hire professionals about the lights being vandalised, broken or stolen, which meant that they would receive a call from the police in the middle of the night, before having to travel to wherever the skip was located, and fit another very expensive light. more

New owners living out dreams

Following his dreams, the young entrepreneur recently bought the repair portion of Loken Auto in Houston. He took over officially on July 15 as the new owner. "So far its been going good," said Rosendahl. "Business has been pretty steady." Rosendahl continues to offer everything a shop would offer from oil changes on up to rebuilding entire engine blocks. "Transmissions and things like that," he said. ASE certified Rosendahl’s customers are in good hands as the young mechanic is an ASE Master Certified Technician. "It assures the customers that we’re doing quality work," said Rosendahl of the certification. Since taking over the business Chad’s father has been helping out. Eileen Loken who still operates the Inn in Houston has also been very helpful to the young couple. more

'Sifiso Zulu has not been recharged'

Durban entrepreneur and socialite Prince Sifiso Zulu is still recovering at hospital and has not been recharged with defeating the ends of justice. Police spokesperson Superintendent Jay Naicker said: "Zulu has not been recharged at this stage." The charge of defeating the ends of justice was withdrawn soon after Zulu was hospitalised, when he apparently jumped from the window of his second-floor penthouse earlier in July. Police had gone there to arrest Zulu for allegedly defeating the ends of justice in relation to the March 29 accident involving Zulu's vehicle, in which two people were killed. On entering the penthouse, police said they found Zulu covered in blood, after he allegedly stabbed himself in the neck and chest. . more

Retired Judge Tom Hall Dies Tuesday Morning

Many years earlier, as a young Greeneville attorney and entrepreneur, Hull had helped establish Greeneville Federal Savings and Loan Association. The savings and loan association later became Greeneville Federal Bank, of which Judge Hull's son, Brandon Hull, is president and CEO.

Since late 2005, the three-story, brick-and-granite former courthouse has been the Greeneville Federal Bank's headquarters and main branch.

The bank elected, however, to maintain Judge Hull's longtime judicial office on the second floor as it had been during his judgeship, and it again became his office following his full retirement from the federal bench in 2006.

Served In Legislature

A native of Greeneville, Judge Hull served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater of operations during World War II. more
