Verizon Business Expands Consulting Services
"Business strategy, communications and IT require a holistic approach in today's complex, always-on global marketplace," said John Killian, president of Verizon Business, in a statement. "Through our new standardized pro-services capabilities, we are recognizing this fundamental shift in business."
Verizon said it has created a standardized set of more than 50 professional service capabilities in 30 countries.
The Verizon Communications unit noted that its strategic services offerings grew by 23.5% in the first quarter year-over-year. The unit's strategic services offerings also include IP, Ethernet, and optical ring services.
In an e-mail, Tony Recine, vice president of specialized services, said network installation and engineering is the largest of the five areas of new and major concentration. more

New phishing scam targets Apple's iTunes
Apple's widely recognized iTunes is being used to lure users to a phishing scam that could allow hackers to obtain private credit card and personal information. The world's most popular music store is being used as part of a series of sophisticated identity theft attacks for the first time, a security company noted on Tuesday. The Computerworld report says that users began receiving spam email messages on Monday telling them that they must correct a problem with their iTunes account; however, the link leads to a third-party site masquerading as an iTunes billing update page: "that phony page asks for information including credit card number and security code, Social Security number and mother's maiden name," the report noted.
There have, however, been previous reports of "bogus" electronic iTunes certificates, scams targeting .Mac users with an email saying that Apple purportedly was unable to process their most recent payment, and phishing scams targeting Apple users, but Apple has not setup a specific email for users to report the problem, but provides some (very basic) information on Identifying phishing emails. moreAT&T launches U-verse for small businesses
AT&T Inc. is rolling out a business version of U-verse that will offer high-speed Internet access to small businesses in more than 40 U.S. markets, including Atlanta.
The company's new AT&T business edition U-verse will provide download speeds up to 10 Megabits per second (Mbps). The service will also allow businesses to serve up to 32 Internet access connections over existing telephone wiring.
Small business subscribers to this service also will have free unlimited access to the AT&T's Wi-Fi network. This will give small business executives the ability to log onto the Internet at more than 17,000 hot spots nationwide, including more than 7,000 Starbucks stores.
AT&T has also equipped the small-business service with virtually unlimited e-mail storage, security features and anti-spam software. more
