Budget 'has driven firms to vote Tory'

Government business legislation and the reaction to the Chancellor's first Budget is providing a bonus from small companies for David Cameron and the Tories, say researchers.

Support for the Conservatives among entrepreneurs has grown sharply, helped by the fall-out from the Budget and the planned introduction of legislation banning income switching, according to the results of a survey covering more than 1,000 managers running businesses with between five and 500 staff.

More than half - 62pc - have swung behind the Tories, a 34pc rise since 2006. They feel the Cameron team has a better appreciation of the pressures on entrepreneurs while just 6pc are sticking with Labour and 3pc the Liberal Democrats.

Voting Question: patenting my idea/concept ? is it possible ? how do I go about doing that ?

I see some very viable business requirements that can be solved by solutions I wanna patent. But after I come out with the concept , I don't want to go about begging money from venture capitalists neither do I want copy cat , retards like Microsoft xeroxing that Idea .I'd rather sell it small and grow with it on its own weight. What should I do ? Can someone please guide me as to how I can patent a solution that will hit the market like a bomb. Its based on a concept that is translated to software and hardware, that implements it . What all can I patent ? the software / hardware and / or the concept too ? How do I go about patenting it ? I hate documentation ....will it involve a lot of redundant paper work ? Any Ideas ....?After I go through all this rigmarole , can someone ( like MS ) after all modify it slightly , make it abroad ( e.g China ) and make money on it , leaving no credit to the inventor ? more

Resolved Question: so what do you think?

TIPS FOR SUCCESS IN BUSINESS Never walk down the hall without a document in your hands. People with documents in their hands look like hardworking employees heading for important meetings. People with nothing in their hands look like they're heading for the cafeteria. People with the newspaper in their hands look like they're heading for the bathroom. Above all, make sure you carry loads of stuff home with you at night, thus generating the false impression that you work longer hours than you do. * * * Use computers to look busy. Any time you use a computer, it looks like work to the casual observer. You can send and receive personal e-mail, calculate your finances and generally have a blast without doing anything remotely related to work. These aren't exactly the societal benefits that everybody from the computer revolution expected but they're not bad either. When you get caught by your boss--and you will get caught--your best defense is to claim you're teaching yourself to use the new software, thus saving valuable training dollars. You're not a loafer, you're a self-starter. Offer to show your boss what you learned. That will make your boss scurry away like a frightened salamander. * * * Messy desk. Top management can get away with a clean desk. For the rest of us, it looks like you're not working hard enough. Build huge piles of documents around your workspace. To the observer, last year's work looks the same as today's work; it's volume that counts. Pile them high and wide. If you know somebody is coming to your cubicle, bury the document you'll need halfway down in an existing stack and rummage for it when he/she arrives. * * * Voice mail. Never answer your phone if you have voice mail. People don't call you just because they want to give you something for nothing-- they call because they want YOU to do work for THEM. That's the way to live. Screen all your calls through voice mail. If somebody leaves a voice mail message for you and it sounds like impending work, respond during lunch hour. That way, you're hardworking and conscientious even though you're being a devious weasel. If you diligently employ the method of screening incoming calls and then returning calls when nobody is there, this will greatly increase the odds that they will give up or look for a solution that doesn't involve you. The sweetest voice mail message you can ever hear is "Ignore my last message. I took care of it." If your voice mailbox has a limit on the number of messages it can hold, make sure you reach that limit frequently. One way to do that is to never erase any incoming messages. If that takes too long, send yourself a few messages. Your callers will hear a recorded message that says, "Sorry, this mailbox is full"--a sure sign that you are a hardworking employee in high demand. TRUE? more

Voting Question: How to write to an XML database with client?

I would like to start several different databases which are for private use, not big businesses. Since those would be relatively simple, I thought that working with JavaScript and XML was the solution. But thus far, I see that XML can only be exported by other software or created by hand. Is it not possible to write a web page which can interact with an XML file in both ways, i.e. read and write? Or will I have to go server-side? more

Now the case, here goes: Title: Falcon Computer A small group of managers at Falcon Computer met regularly on Wednesday mornings to develop a statement capturing what they considered to be the “Falcon culture”. Their discussions were wide-ranging, covering what they thought their firm’s culture was, what it should be, and how to create it. They were probably influenced by other firms in their environment, since they were located in the Silicon Valley area of California. Falcon Computer was a new firm, having been created just eight months earlier. Since the corporation was still in the start-up phase, managers decided that it would be timely to create and instill the type of culture they thought would be most appropriate for their organization. After several weeks of brainstorming, writing, debating and rewriting, the management group eventually produced a document called “Falcon Values”, which described the culture of the company as they saw it. The organizational culture statement covered such topics as a treatment of customers, relations among work colleagues, preferred style of social communication, the decision-making process, and the nature of the working environment. Peter Richards reads over the Falcon Values statement shortly after he was hired as a software trainer. After observing managerial and employee behaviors at Falcon for a few weeks, he was struck by the wide discrepancy between the values expressed in the document and what he observed as actual practice within the organization. For example, the Falcon valued document contained statements such as this: “Quality: Attention to detail is our trademark; our goal is to do it right the first time. We intend to deliver defect-free products and services to our customers on the date promised.” However, Richards had already seen shipping reports showing that a number of defective computers are being shipped to customers. And his personal experience supported his worst fears. When he borrowed four brand-new Falcon computers from the shipping room for use in a training class, he found that only two of them started up correctly without additional technical work on his part. Another example of the difference between the Falcon values document and actual practice concerned this statement on communication: “Managing by personal communication is a part of the Flacon way. We value and encourage open, direct, person-to-person communication as a part of our daily routine.” Executives bragged about how they arranged their chair in a circle to show equality and to facilitate open communications whenever they met to discuss the Falcon values document. Richards had heard the “open communication” buzzword a lot since coming to Falcon, but he hadn’t seen much evidence of such communication. As a matter of fact, all other meetings used a more traditional layout, with top executives at the front of the room. Richards believed that the real organizational culture that was developing at Falcon characterized by secrecy and communications that followed the formal chain of command. Even the Falcon values document, Richards was told, had been created in secret. Richards soon became disillusioned, He confided in a coworker one afternoon that “the Falcon values document was so at variance with what people saw every day that very few of them took it seriously.” Employees quickly l more

Resolved Question: I do not have permission to access my DVD-RW drive.

I am running Windows Vista Business. Everytime I get a windows update I lose permission to access my dvd-rw drive. When I load a cd or try to install something from a cd it wont do anything. My E: drive icon has one of those no smoking circles on it. When I try to take ownership of the drive it is unable to display the current owner and will not let me reassign ownership. I am the administrator account. I have turned UAC on and off and done everything else I can think of. The only solution I have found is to completely restore the pc to day 1 out of the box. I have tried restoring to a time before the problem and it doesnt work. The drive still works and I can burn cds like crazy but I cant read them. I have also uninstalled the drive itself and reinstalled it. It makes me think its got to be a software problem or setting somewhere because when I completely restore it the drive works fine. I tried turning off automatic windows updates but I still did it after a while. more

Resolved Question: Is the problem with Ron Paul... his supporters?

After spamming YA! for months they've finally begun spamming our email! I seriously doubt this is something Ron Paul himself is aware of or would much less condone. While I myself like Ron Paul and if I were a Republican he would be my second choice after John McCain (a true American Hero) I realize that the Republicans simply lack a candidate with any charisma... so the Ron Paul crowd think if only the populace knew of his platform they would also support him. THE PROBLEM WITH RON PAUL IS HIS SUPPORTERS... they're obnoxious! BitDefender Captures Spam Used to Influence U.S. Presidential Election Monday October 29, 11:59 am ET Spammer Plugs Ron Paul for President http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/071029/20071029006092.html?.v=1 BUCHAREST, Romania--(BUSINESS WIRE)--BitDefender®, an award-winning provider of antivirus software and data security solutions, today found that a large wave of unsolicited e-mails exhorting the qualities of Ron Paul as a candidate for the U.S. presidency are being captured by BitDefender spam filters. The spam e-mails originate from many different computers, with a wide geographical distribution, making BitDefender specialists suspect that the spammer is using a “bot” network for his "run.” The e-mails appear to have false “To:” fields – a hallmark of spam – making it highly unlikely that this is part of a legitimate campaign. "We haven't observed any previous cases of using spam to try and influence a presidential campaign, in the USA or elsewhere,” declared Vlad Valceanu, head of BitDefender’s antispam unit. “It remains to be seen what impact (if any) this incident has on the outcome of the election, but it's certainly a worrying incident, as people of other political inclinations may feel compelled to counter with some spam of their own. more

Resolved Question: Problems with Dell support and customer service?

In December I purchased a Dell Inspiron Notebook ($1700) and Dell On Call support ($149). Numerous problems have come up. Software has been uninstalled by tech "support" while attempting to resolve my issues. Most support is from overseas. I contacted the Better Business Bureau noticing there are many complaints similar to mine. Now I get an e-mail from Dell saying to me and the Better Business Bureau it has resolved my issue "above and beyond" by crediting me back for removed programs and the Dell On Call Support services I purchased. I did not expect to lose support entirely. Recommendations and solutions is what I seek and will appreciate. Thanks.Dell retracted all open tickets therefore no more support. This is the 2nd (or replacement) computer from Dell. The first one came with a defective video card. more

Resolved Question: Who has information about the file extention .VCD?

My company is holding a huge seminar this weekend and we're promoting it like crazy. In order to facilitate, our consulting company has issued promotional material in VCD format and I bought a load of 'em. I opened the VCD to find files in the format of .vcd. My business partner says that the film is playable on Windows Media Player, but so far I've plugged three CD's on two different computers and I couldn't launch it. I'm meeting some prospective partners tomorrow who will need to attend this seminar so I need to play the VCD to promote it to them. Do you know what I need to do in order to make the VCD playable...perhaps download a plugin or a new software? Thank you in advance for solutions--I promise to give 10 points for best answer without delay. Having said that, please note that comments that don't answer the question (i.e. stuff along the lines of "geez, I don't know," "your business partner lied," or "throw it away") will be reported as abuse.Hi Answerers... sorry for the long response... I know I promised 10 points instantly, but I didn't realise that computers is like Greek to me, so I'm still in the process of trying out your answers one by one.
