"Research has told us that finance is the biggest barrier to people going into franchising. more

Turkey's business group slams AKP populist policitics
We see the government signaling a step back in the reform process and a return to populist political implementations that we have not seen for years, Turkish Industrialists and Businessmen's Association (TUSIAD) said on Tuesday. (UPDATED)
"An increase in the amount of the funds transferred from the central budget to municipalities, the spending of resources in the unemployment fund and the cutting of the primary surplus are all signs of populist political moves," said TUSIAD chair Arzuhan Dogan Yalcindag, during her speech at gathering for the launch of TUSIAD's "A Sectoral Look at Turkey's Industry" report.

"There's such a variety of threads out there in the industry when it comes to fittings on heavy equipment," he said. "There's a range from standard up to metric threads from Europe and there are so many various product lines, so a lot of hydraulics companies are trying to match up with a compatible fitting. For example, Caterpillar has their own fitting. We'll serve mostly mining-related companies and construction." Mr. more

Open Question: Online Sales Tax Question?
I am starting an online business where I will sell article writing for web content services and I might also sell downloadable software. My questions is, do I get taxed for this? What taxes would apply if any? I live in Colorado and work from home so I don't have an office. moreOpen Question: Whats the best tax software for a business?
I recently received my accounting degree and i have been working for a tax business for awhile now and I finally have enough cash built up to start my own tax office, I was wondering if anyone knew of some good tax soft wares that I could use for my business, most of the ones i have been looking at on the internet are basically just if you want to do your own taxes, they do not seem like they are designed for a business and im having trouble finding any, also, once I have a software i need to get set up with a bank to do RAL loans so i can get clients their money fast, a good friend of mine said that there are tax softwares you can purchase that are already set up with banks to do the tax loans but i cant find anything like that on the internet, any suggestions?????? moreOpen Question: Is buying a computer for a website business tax deductible?

Due to tuff times I am going to be doing my own business taxes this year. I have a small business(I have a dump truck) it is an S-Corp. I am wondering what tax software would be best for me tubotax h&r blck etc. I do payroll on myself if that helps and pay taxes just like a regular job.The business itself makes about 75k a year before all deductions. I'm a software engineer in California collecting unemployment insurance. In addition to looking for a full-time job, I'm also trying to start a software consulting business. I'm buying business cards, building a website and portfolio of my work, meeting with prospective clients, etc. I haven't gotten any consulting clients yet but I'm trying hard. I have two related questions: first: does trying to start a consulting business disqualify me from receiving unemployment benefits, even if I haven't earned any money (yet!) from my consulting work? Second: if I'm not successful in getting paid consulting clients by the end of the year, can I deduct expenses I incurred starting up my consulting business as losses on Schedule C? Or will that raise too many eyebrows given that I collected unemployment benefits for most of the year? My unemployment benefits are larger than the tax benefit of Schedule C losses, so if I have to choose I won't deduct my Schedule C losses. But I'd prefer not to have to choose! :-) moreVoting Question: Help with Small business taxes?
I'm using Quicktax Online Edition to do my small business taxes. It's a videography business, and I wanted to deduct the equipment that I purchased - video camera, tripod, editing software, and smaller equipment. Is there a way to write these things off as an expense and not have to put them down as fixed assets that you only get depreciation costs for over the course of multiple years? I bought some of the equipment used, so some of it only cost like $25, so it seems weird that the software is implying that I have to put down $25 as fixed assets that I dont' get a regular deduction for. The only thing I bought that costs over $200 is the video camera which was around $900. So, can I put down the equipment, software, and some office furniture that all cost under $200 (Most under $80) as expenses. If I can't put the video camera down as a regular expense, how can I get the most back this year. I'm doing my 2008 taxes, and had to upgrade to a high definition camera in 2009, so I barely use this camera anymore anyway. Please help. It would be great if you have experience with Quicktax Online Edition. I just tried entering the items as fixed assets, and it didn't seem to give me any refund for this year. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to write anything in the UCC spaces next to the amounts.Just to clarify I'm Canadian (BC) so I'm looking for someone who knows Canadian taxes. moreResolved Question: How can somebody say they read the stimulus bill and did not see any tax breaks?

I have a small business along with my part time job. I am sole proprietor of the business. I have not registered it as a LLC. I'm in the process of starting a bookkeeping business scheduled to open on July 1st of this year. I will be doing bookkeeping for small businesses and preparing income tax returns for individuals. My heart is pretty set on using Quickbooks for the bookkeeping portion (the majority of my business) but there are so many versions of Quickbooks, I haven't been able to decide on a particular one. The "Accountant 2010" version doesn't seem to be right because I don't plan to only have clients that already have Quickbooks. In researching the area, I think I'll be doing a lot of converting manual books into computerized versions. I only need to have 5 or less users capable of being on the system at the same time and the number of clients I'll have will hopefully be around 20. Any software suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Taylor moreResolved Question: How will financing be for me?
Opening a tanning salon(something neat and sophisticated looking.) has been in my plans since I was about 14. All during high school I was home schooled and I worked for my dad cleaning newly constructed houses/businesses before they were put on the market for sale or lease. That is until things went under and he had to file for bankruptcy on all of the residential and commercial real estate that he developed. The I went to Costco for 2 years. From the 4 or so years I worked during school, I hoarded nearly every penny I made so I could fulfill my dream as an entrepreneur when I graduated from high school. Right after graduating from the Fulton County Public School System, I was set and went out looking for SOMETHING else to do to start my career in a self-owned business. Everything exceeded what my budget was set on until my dads good friends' dad was retiring and selling his repo company. So, I knew then at that time that was my opportunity. Luckily he allowed me to finance everything since he owned the stuff and he also let me walk in his lot that he's now leasing to me. So I've been in the repossession/recovery business for over a year now and with the economy HOPEFULLY shaping up, I've really been thinking about getting rid of my trucks & selling everything(of course after I have another main source of income coming in). The main reason is because I fear in about 2-3 years from now, this economy will have improved greatly and there won't be as much recovery work to cover all of my expenses associated with my company. ---OK so now my story about my young life is over, I'll get to my main concern- Although I'm only 19 now, I've had credit since I was 15(I lied about my DOB on credit card apps which has now been corrected with all 3 credit bureaus). Every since then I ALWAYS did right and kept my credit immaculate as it still is. My Transunion FICO through MyFico is at 738 and is slowly rising as my accounts grow older and as my personal vehicle is on its way to being fully paid off. I do have credit cards, but have $0 in credit card debt. Since Mar. 8th 2009 to Dec. 31st 2009, my company has grossed approx. $480K. That number may be fairly large, but considering I have 3 other drivers/employees I pay commission to, repo insurance(nearly $13K for not even the full year), rent on my ex-car lot(just over $20K for not even the full year), tax, all utilities, and after going ahead and paying my "agent" off for financing the PC's, software, trucks etc., that number was lowered significantly. Fortunately, 2010 so far is just as busy as it has been for the past 10 months and I'm even having to send repo orders back to finance companies from not having enough time to do them all(I'm not buying another truck). Like I said, I'm really thinking about going into the tanning business and it's a decision I'll have to make between now and the next 2-3 years. Would someone like me at my age(I will be 21-22yo then) have a hard time being approved for a $300K+ loan with the following factors: Company grossed $480K.(Honestly I want to leave this out of the app.) I netted about $110K during the last 3 quarters of '09.(before all of my personal bills/expenses.) I have roughly $80K in assets(2 recovery trucks, a money market account, and other misc. things). I have 3 checking accounts(2 personal, 1 business) I have 2 savings accounts. I have tax forms that have been filed and I also have bank and broker statements to prove my income. I have above average+ personal credit but no business credit.(no debt besides personal vehicle which will be paid off in 2 years or sooner) I have the knowledge, skill and common sense to know how to properly run a business. I can produce a legitimate business proposal. Hopefully within the next 2 or so years all of my assets and everything else will have grown.(if it doesn't there's a problem. lol) I know this is a lot of info, but my life ahead is really sticking to my nerves and I need support. I saw how my dad went from one minute having a lot of real estate to the next minute having to dig into his retirement money, and I want to avoid this by all means possible. I could be making a mistake by wanting to stop repossessing vehicles but as I said, I feel when this economy shapes up I won't even be grossing enough to cover everything and I don't want to lose my ***. The big question, how will banks view my status when attempting to obtain a commercial loan for roughly $300K? Would it be best if I go through the SBA? Could I get the loan w/o having to include my total grossed income? I'm literally fretting over these things. Thank all of you guys for your support. moreVoting Question: Using turbotax I was a self-employed (my own after school program) and was working at a tutoring center?

I'm a Canadian residing in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada. After high school, I'm enrolling in a B.com (bachelor of commerce) program at the University of Alberta. My major will be accounting and my minor will be finance. After University, I will be pursuing a CA (Chartered Accountant) designation. I will spend a couple years working as an tax accountant/auditor. After experience as an accountant, I will be pursuing a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst). When I obtain this designation, I may either i) Start an accounting practice, ii) Work as a CFA for a few years then start an investment firm or iii) Start working in the public sector. I plan on becoming a careerist and making a truck load of money. Either way, by the time I feel like I'm ready, with my wealth and business connections, I plan on starting a venture capital firm. Almost three months ago, I gathered with some older geek friends and we decided to start a company. I have tried to make it work, but I'm at my wit's end, and need to quit. But how? My boss is not a good boss. He is in college, and doesn't have enough time to focus on the business. I'm the only one with web design/programming skills, and when he found a possible client where I would be doing ALL the work, he took the job without consulting me (because he wanted money). Now he expects me to simply have the job done, though he refuses to tell me what I need to do, refuses to answer my questions, and refuses to let me talk to the client directly (though I'll be doing all the work). Then he says I'll be getting 20% of the payment myself, the rest going to the rest of the (three) employees. He's also doing everything in his power to evade taxes. It's not even a legal company yet, and I'm afraid we might get sued by our client, since I have nothing to show (I don't know what the hell to do!). Last time I tried to quit, he got all emotional and said things like, "I'm trying to leave emotion out of this, but we really need you." It's been three months, I've built the company website, I've done various other pieces of work (assembling software packages for distribution, providing web space for the company, organizing and setting up services like online chat/help, etc.), and I have received: No money. Last time he and my other coworker were over at my place working, I tried to get things done, while they went into my garage with my brother's friends and got high. How do I tell my boss I quit? I need out of this!Several of you have said things like "just walk in" or "never go back"... we don't have a location. He's just sitting at his place in the university district. Anyway, thanks for all of your advice. I think I'll let him know now. moreResolved Question: How do I pay tax for services I sell on different websites if I'm based in the U.K?
Hello, I came up with an idea to sell my services online. However, I'm not sure if I need to register my business and pay tax as I would maximum get £200-£300 a month if its successful. Basically the idea is that for a particular charge I would retouch digital photos for people and it would include drawing with special software (so you can call it art as well). I would certainly have some expenses as well like laptop and tablet depreciation, paypal fee for each transaction, website hosting monthly fee and maybe some other expenses like advertising. I would also be willing to reinvest money I get from this hobby/service into new equipment and software. So my question is how do I register this legally as i wouldn't say its a serious business (i wouldn't be making much profit of it, sometimes when i lack ideas, i might not sell anything at all) Second question is, Would the situation change if I sold the same service on ebay on my personal acc as i would automatically be paying ebay 15% tax which goes to Luxembourg and fee for each paypal transaction as well. And last question, if I sell my digital photo work on a lot of different websites like ebay, shutterstock.co.uk and my personal website how do I register it then. Now it is not my only income, its just a hobby and the money I would get I would use for purchasing more equipment for the same activity (cameras, lenses, software and etc) moreResolved Question: Corporation account and divorce?

We need radio left alone, save something! Okay.?
I heard on my local FM rock station a commercial aired by the radio broadcasters ( association?) and it hit me like a ton of bricks really. Radio works just as it is. If you mess with it by making sure the big labels capitalize on profits gained by a revamped system be very sure that you don't ruin the simple integrity of advertiser supported radio that was standardized so long ago. For the musician there is more change now than ever. We can now record for the cost of a computer and a few good programs. In fact you don't even have to be a musician to make music anymore. That is, you don't necessarily have to master a traditional instruments fingerings as much as master it's sound. If you can master your ear then you might be the next great hit maker. In fact the credentials of a well outfitted musician is to know pro-tools and have a degree in music business. It really is a different world than it was 20 years ago when I moved to L.A. and went to school for studio musicians. Guitar is my instrument. Now you can get every Les Paul guitar sound you can imagine for $400 or so in a software program. I'll believe it when I hear it through a 1963 Marshall stack. Music is a great and beautiful thing that even if there are greedy bastards skimming off of it there will always be great music that will be alive and listened to for free even if it's without electricity! So I'll quit rambling. Save for WLVQ Columbus Q-FM 96.3 moreVoting Question: Should I have someone prepare my taxes?

Recently, for about the 100th time, I lost my little red log book. Of course it was returned, but it did raise an issue for me. Many of my FOs log their time on their PDA, phone, whatever. I happen to own a Droid, and started looking for Droid logbook software, but apparently, none exists. So I started thinking about web based subscription software, and Google finds a few of those. Would those of you who have experience with electronic logbooks please offer some recommendations? Especially with the web-based versions. I currently track: Date, Tail#, Type, From, To, Start (hh:mm), End (hh:mm), Total (hh:mm), SchedTime (hh:mm), Overs (mm), TLH (Takeoff, Landing, Holding). The TLH is just for proving instrument currency under Part 91, should the need ever arise---it never has. If I am going to do this, in addition to the above, I would like the following: 1) The ability to quickly print out layover cities for tax deductions. 2) Warnings on CFI, Medical, and any other expirations 3) Web + PC Based. Right now there are none available for the Droid. I don't want to purchase some software, then, when the next PDA/Phone comes, it out won't handle it. If web based, then there are places in the world where it won't work, but I can update when I get back to civilization. 4) Ability to download back to my PC so that I am not stuck if the provider goes out of business. 5) Reasonably priced. In the past 23 years, I have, not even once, been required by anyone to produce a log book. Not even the FAA. So I am not even certain why I am keeping it. So, if it is too hard to use, or is too expensive, I'll just stay with paper. Thanks moreVoting Question: I was hired as a contractor and got a 1099. I do not want to purchase software just to fill in the blanks. Does anyone know how I can print / fill in the blanks?- Also , I do not have access to a typewriter. moreResolved Question: Why don't we tax them more?
Big Banks, Big Oil, Big Health Insurance, Wall Street, Big Retail Stores, Big Home Improvement Stores, Big Software, and so on. For some, all these businesses make "obscene" profits, and must be taxed more. When the government does this, when finally these "obscene" profits are taxed to the point those some are satisfied, what will these Big Businesses do? Are US businesses taxed that much less than anywhere else in the world? Who will pay this tax when we tax them more?Congratulations...you all get it, except "think outside", who believes in government wage controls, and "I_was_myself", who somehow believes that big businesses pay their taxes out of their profits. moreVoting Question: Do I have to pay taxes?
I'm a stay at home mom and my husband is a software engineer. He owns his own business and pays up to 60k in tax annually. My 11 yr old son and I make some extra cash selling video games online. It was his idea and he does most of the work. I just help. We don't have a registered company yet. Annual income from this would be 20k, profit would be 10k. Most of this is recorded in my son's bank account. Do we have to pay taxes on this? Thanks. moreResolved Question: Would this be an excellent version of "Hell" to send politicians to?
Day in, day out, for eternity, they need to file taxes for me: Married filing jointly, 2 kids One of us owns a small business Income in 2 states (one being New York) Home office deductions Meals and travel expenses related to small business Capital gains realized from stock sales 401k distribution from an old employer who corrected some math They need to do all of this without the benefit of a tax professional or software to help. Just the IRS and it's lovely forms and publications. After spending a weekend doing our taxes - WITH help - I am certain this would be a special version of Hell which would make politicians wonder why they have created this crazy complicated monster. It was both created and has evolved. Every little stupid step and extra hoop is someone's election promise brought to life. moreResolved Question: If I buy clothes and resell them in eBay, do I need a Texas Seller's permit?

I'm trying to file tax for my community and I was just doing research on which software will work best for about 50 or 60 returns. I went to intuit.com and they have Proseries Tax and Lacarte Tax. are there any other type of software out there that works the same but just cheaper? Yes President Obama is letting the Bush tax cuts for people making over $250,000 a year expire but President Obama's stimulus bill had $282 billion in tax cuts. (if President Obama has increased taxes please post which piece of legislation it was) Individual Tax Cuts: 1. "Making Work Pay" Tax Credit (Sec. 1001, Page 195). In tax years 2009 and 2010, the Making Work Pay provision will provide a refundable tax credit of 6.2 percent of earned income up to $400 for individuals and up to $800 for married taxpayers filing joint returns. 2. Increase in the Earned Income Tax Credit (Sec. 1002, Page 198). Go to the stimulus bill for all the details, but it essentially expands this benefit for the working poor. 3. Increased Eligibility for the Refundable Portion of Child Credit (Sec. 1003, Page 199). In 2009 and 2010, families who don’t earn enough to pay income tax would be eligible to claim the $1,000 child credit. 4. "American Opportunity" Education Tax Credit (Sec. 1004, Page 199). Increases the Hope Scholarship Credit to $2,500. 5. Refundable First-time Home Buyer Credit. (Sec. 1006, Page 202). This extended and increased the first-time home buyer tax credit from $7,500 to $8,000. 6. Temporary Suspension of Taxation of Unemployment Benefits (Sec. 1007, Page 203). This exempts from taxable gross income the first $2,400 of unemployment benefits. 7. Tax Credits for Energy-Efficient Improvements to Existing Homes (Sec. 1121, Page 208). This provides up to a $1,500 tax credit for qualified energy efficiency improvements. 8. Sales Tax Deduction for Vehicle Purchases (Sec. 1008, Page 203). This allows people to write off state and local sales taxes related to the purchase of a new vehicle costing up to $49,500. 9. Premium Credits for COBRA Continuation Coverage for Unemployed Workers (Sec. 6432, Page 348) 10. Economic Recovery Credits to Recipients of Social Security, SSI, Railroad Retirement and Veterans Disability Compensation Benefits (Sec. 2201, Page 336). This was a $250 payment for senior citizens, disabled veterans and disabled people living on Social Security benefits. 11. Computers as Qualified Education Expenses in 529 Education Plans (Sec. 1005, Page 202). This allows college students to write off the expense of computers and software, provided it's for educational purpose and not for games. 12. Plug-in Electric Drive Vehicle Credit (Sec. 1141, Page 212). Allows purchasers of plug-in electric vehicles to write off up to $5,000 of their purchase (depending on the power of the battery). 13. Tax Parity for Transit Benefits (sec. 1151, Page 219). This relates to an increased exclusion amount for commuter transit benefits and transit passes. 14. Health Coverage Tax Credit Expansion (Sec. 1899, Page 309). Small Business Tax Cuts: 1. Extension of Enhanced Small Business Expensing (Sec. 1202, Page 221). This is a temporary increase in limitations on expensing some depreciable business assets. 2. 5-Year Carryback of Net Operating Losses for Small Businesses (Sec. 1211, Page 221). 3. Extension of Bonus Depreciation (Sec. 1201, Page 220). This extends by a year election to accelerate the AMT and Research Credits in lieu of bonus depreciation. 4. Exclusion of 75% of Small Business Capital Gains from Taxes (Sec. 1241, Page 228). 5. Temporary Small Business Estimated Tax Payment Relief (Sec. 1212, Page 222). 6. Temporary Reduction of S Corporation Built-In Gains Holding Period from 10 Years to 7 Years (Sec. 1251, Page 228). Other Business Tax Cuts: 1. Advanced Energy Investment Credit (Sec. 1302, Page 231). This relates to properties designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, such as those that produce energy from the sun, wind, geothermal deposits, fuel cells, microturbines, or an energy storage system for use with electric or hybrid-electric vehicles. 2. Tax Credits for Alternative Refueling Property (Sec. 1123, Page 211). This is a temporary increase for alternative fuel vehicle refueling businesses. 3. Work Opportunity Tax Credits for Hiring Unemployed Veterans and Disconnected Youth (Sec. 1221, Page 223). That latter term is defined, in part, as young adults "not readily employable by reason of lacking a sufficient number of basic skills." 4. Delayed Recognition of Certain Cancellation of Debt Income (Sec. 1231, Page 224). 5. So my question is can I deduct this as a business expenses on my 2009 taxes instead of waiting till next year? What is the deadline for deducting business expenses for the tax year 2009? moreResolved Question: Which version of Turbo Tax should I buy?
I'm planning to use turbo tax for the first time (previously used a CPA). I need the Premier version because I own a small business. I need advice on which version to buy: software (cd), online or download. Download is the the cheapest, but I want to get the right one in terms of ease of use and accuracy. moreResolved Question: Small Business and Taxes... How difficult is it to file my own taxes?
I own a small business (auto body business) and I am wondering how difficult it would be to file my own taxes. Have you done this before? Do you use software? If so, which one would you recommend and how easy is it to use? I have been using an accountant but she has become unreliable and I am thinking about taking things into my own hands. Any advice, short or long answers, are greatly appreciated. I do award 10 points for the best advice. Thanks. moreVoting Question: I'm looking for a software to file my tax returns. Not Turbotax.?
I want to file my tax returns and my friends are too, it's like personal business thing. Which software is good for the job? Turbo-tax is only allowed me to use it in one tax season, and I have to purchase a new version for the next tax season. Are there any software that doesn't have a limit? Your answer is appreciated. moreResolved Question: How do I know if I have filed Tax for my LLC (Form 1065)?
I did my personal tax return using Turbo Tax software (home and business) which I thought I have also filed 1065 for my LLC (multiple members). How can I check for sure if I have files for the LLC last year? If I have not filed, can I file 2008's form 1065 now (January 2009)? Also, since I didn't know, I did not file extension request... moreVoting Question: Need help choosing tax software.... completing returns for about 10 people.?
I am a CPA and plan on doing returns for about 10 friends this year. I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on software and I don't think that I can use anything free, since those are primarily for people that are filing for themselves only. Does anyone have any good suggestion for any free/cheap software that I could use to complete about 8-10 returns? Do any companies offer a trial for 10 returns for free that I could use and if the business grows more than that, I would just pay for the full software? Thanks! moreResolved Question: What tax software is best to use for an ebay business - personal experience would be great?

Quickbooks is too complicated.?
I've tried Quickbooks, and all that stupid program does is force me to spend hours typing in unnecessary data. I have been using various Excel speadsheets to keep track of everything, and although it isn't the most effective way to manage business, it WORKS, which is the most important thing. Is there an easier way without having to learn an oversized software suite that seems aimed more towards a bookkeeper than a business owner? I'd like to keep everything simple for when tax time rolls around, but I'm not sure exactly how to do this and keep it easy for whatever poor soul has to write up my return. Keep in mind that I probably do 6 service calls per day and it is increasingly difficult to get time to type this info in the computer. Thanks in advance. moreResolved Question: Tax for Profesional trader / Investment Firm?

Vikas Panwar moreResolved Question: Are there any GOOD software companies out there?
My nearly twenty years in the software industry is a complete clusterfunk, and I don't know what I did to cause it, except for having a brain, caring about my work, and maintaining personal integrity. At least that's my side of the story. Maybe one of you can figure out what I did wrong, or where I'm full of it. It's the same pattern at every company I've worked -- the vast majority of my peers, who apparently have their college degree, are so horribly underqualified to do their job, that words fail me. Almost without exception, they are stupid, ignorant, lazy, and dishonest. They seem perfectly content to fake their way through their job and stick me with all the hard work. The number of co-workers I've had in my life that I could trust to do real work, I can count on one hand, and have fingers left over. The only wildcard is my boss -- if he/she is actually competent, then I tend to keep my job, even though my job is sheer hell. If he/she is hopelessly average, I tend to get fired for "having a bad attitude", then I have to explain myself over and over at job interviews. More often than not, the interviewer gets a faraway look in his/her eyes, as if admitting that I would just have the same problem there. I'm pretty sure I've done nothing other than work hard, strive to improve, care about my work, and not take shortcuts. Granted, my people skills aren't exactly politician grade, but what can I do -- a few years ago I finally heard about something called Asperger's Syndrome, and damned if I didn't match up with every single last symptom. (Actually, it mentioned clumsiness, which doesn't fit me -- my reflexes are quick and accurate. But if by clumsiness they mean awkwardness, never mind, that fits.) But given that many computer programmers have Asperger's Syndrome, it really seems like that can't be the source of my problems with work. From my point of view, it seems like I can't find a decent company to work for. Every one is just a museum for lazy morons. I've worked in six different parts of the software industry -- word processing, OEM, business simulation, income tax, defense contracting, and video games -- and it's the same story everywhere. (The incompetent defense-industry programmers really floor me -- don't soldiers have to depend on this crap?) It seems like there would have to be a decent place to work somewhere -- please? Maybe? I've completely failed at finding one. Is it because I never bothered to get a master's or PhD? (It took me five years and a quarter just to get my bachelor's. No, I'm not a slacker -- ask anyone that went to U.C. San Diego, they'll tell you this is typical. The course load is just too heavy for us engineering students.) I didn't get an advanced degree because I was quite sick of college and desperate to start my adult life. Besides, it's not like college really taught me much -- I tended to be years ahead of my peers, based on my own self-driven education. Maybe the jobs I'm talking about are reserved for PhDs? I don't know. Am I just full of it? Feel free to ask for clarifications or whatever...I'll do my best to explain where I'm coming from. But as it stands, I feel like I'm living in Bizarro world, where good is bad and bad is good, and someone that actually knows how to do his job and achieve results in the real world is some sort of freak, good only for ridicule and stabbing in the back. Oh, and one last thing...I am not looking for wishful thinking or well-meaning lies. How I feel about all of this is completely irrelevant. I don't need to be soothed. I'll feel good about this as soon as there is a logical reason to feel good about it, and not a second sooner, and anything less than that, as far as I'm concerned, qualifies as self-delusion, so don't even suggest it. I want answers, not pablum.@intheleast: Thanks for replying. You're exactly the sort of person I'm complaining about. Your response was all ad-hominem attacks and no data.@blamay22000: So this is an American phenomenon? Any idea what country I should move to? I'm ready to learn a new language and move halfway across the world, if it means there's a chance I could actually stand to live my life. moreVoting Question: Is it ok issue a paycheck by splitting it into two separate checks?
I have a small business and one of my employees asked to have his check split as two separate checks so it's easier to deposit into two separate accounts. I don't mind this but I realized our software deducts less tax when I issue two small checks instead to one large one. Will there be any legal issues with this? I figure if you paid less taxes throughout the year, you would just need to pay more when April comes along so it wouldn't matter, but I'm not so sure. Anyone know if this is ok? moreResolved Question: What actions should I take in starting my sole proprietorship in the US?
Should I do the following?... - Get a P.O. box for my business address (I live in an apt)? - Get a business bank account with business credit card? Does a sole proprietorship get its own Tax ID? Do I pay myself a salary from business profits like a corp would? Are there any IRS gotchas about offsetting income with real business expenses in a sole proprietorship? Should I get an accounting software package for a sole proprietorship? If so, what's a good one to use? moreResolved Question: I am self employed, how good is H&R Block for filing business taxes?
I have always used an accountant to do this, and I am pretty sure that they are ripping me off since they always have an excuse to charge me hundreds more than their quote. Like she would say "only $150 if I organize my records in a certain way, so I do that exactly and she thanks me on getting them organized perfectly, yet still charges me $300 and says it is due to buying new Quickbook software". I tried searching for other accounts but they charge $300+ too. I created a script that automatically categories every single penny I have spent on my business, very clean and only a couple of pages long. I am wondering if I can try H&R Block for this? When I worked a regular job I used to go to them and they seem like regular Walmart type employees, not degree carrying accountants who are working to build their reputation and client base. So would H&R Block give me all of the possible tax deductions (and can they file all of this electroonically?) for a normal rate around $100 dollars? Thanks. moreResolved Question: hey everyone please answer?
