Prudent reporting builds confidence

In assessing the prospect that as yet incomplete transactions, such as outstanding derivatives, will be concluded successfully, a degree of scepticism is warranted. The aim must be to put the users of financial statements in the best possible position to form their own opinion of the probable outcome of the events reported. Prudent reporting based on a healthy scepticism builds confidence in the results and, in the long run, best serves all of the divergent interests of different constituents.

UK Q1 Business Investment Unexpectedly Falls

(RTTNews) - UK's business investment, measured in chained volume terms seasonally adjusted fell 1.4% quarter-on-quarter to GBP36.22 billion in the first quarter, a preliminary report from the Office for National Statistics showed Thursday. Meanwhile, economists had expected an increase of 0.3%.

On an annual basis, investment rose at a slower pace of 3.7%, compared to the consensus forecast of 5.5% rise.

According to the preliminary report, business investment by private and public sector manufacturing decreased 4.9% quarter-on-quarter and 2.8% year-on-year in the first quarter.

My friend and I really want to earn money to save up on things we really like. I am a a fairly good artist, and I always wanted to create a comic book series. I need a certain software and tools for that. I also want to save money for college, or maybe a future car. My family can't get all that, so my friend and I decided to start a business! Today, we brainstormed a lot of ideas and we both realized that we had good gardening skills. So we wanted to do yard service. A few hours later, I found out that it can be difficult to maintain a business, and I was worried that people won't take us seriously. Besides, I'm a short person, so people might think I'm a clueless kid. I want to be a businesswoman when I grow up, and I want to look back at this when I'm 30 and knowing that I was a serious, hardworking girl. I would also know that this is where I started, and I can look at my successful business in the future. My problem is, I don't know the right way to advertise, how much money I should charge, how to deal with stingy people, how to make this all work! I'm also having trouble on what we should name our business. We both have different names and if I try to combine them, it will look like a mutant heap of letters. Of course, I'm not going to call this "Amanda's Yard Service" (My names Amanda) because what about Izzy, my friend? As for advertising, should we print out fliers and put them in every mailbox in our neighborhood? We don't have colored ink! Or should we advertise in a different way? Oh, and our yard service offers lawn mowing, weed pulling, grass and bush trimming, plant watering, and everything that your yard would want! We have all the tools we need for this, and we love nature so it would be nice to care for it. We are thinking about charging two dollars to mow a small lawn and three dollars to mow a big lawn. We want our prices to be cheap because that will attract customers, and the economy isn't doing well (at least that's what the president says, I'm not very fond with economy) and since we're just young teens, people aren't gonna pay thirty bucks per lawn. And how do I deal with stingy and rude people? I'm really stressed about this and I need to know the ins and outs and pros and cons of what I'm about to endure. I'm hardworking, determined, skilled, creative, and my friend is to. So if you don't feel like writing much, then just give me a useful website in which I can refer to. As in, they pay me two dollars and Izzy two dollars, so instead, they actually pay four dollars? Or should it be that they pay us two dollars and we split the profit and each of us have one dollar? I'm having trouble putting my finger on it, maybe I just don't like working with other engineers? Most of them are weird and anti-social; I'm not really like that. I did engineering because I had to pick something, I am good at math and science, and it pays well. I generally am a bit quiet, but very well-spoken and creative. I'm sociable but prefer working alone where I can focus on the task at hand. For those of you familiar with the Meyers-Briggs, I'm an INFP. I considered business briefly (most people with engineering backgrounds seem to go into management), but I'm not really the entrepreneurial type and I just can't seem to get into it. I've considered teaching, but am not sure I could handle a classroom full of kids. I've lately started to consider graphic design (or something similar) as a possibility since I've always been rather visual and artistic. Any good suggestions that I haven't considered? I am setting up a sever for a client that has a small business of 15-20 people. I was wondering whether to go with Apple or Windows based server. Yes I know I went to college for this but I want some feed-back on this because this is one of my first IT jobs were i have a nearly unlimited budget. I was planning to go with Apple. I can only be nostalgic now. I'm 18 years old, in a large public university, and I have no friends nor even a clear goal as to what I should become. And I really mean it when I have no friends - it's extremely hard for me to communicate to others verbally, much less front-to-front. It's probably because I get so nervous around people that I forget what I should do or even say. But often, I just play the tough guy and appear a bit arrogant, if silent. Besides that, I think I'm depressed like never before. I've heard people claiming that their college years were the best years of their lives, but I feel so - I don't know - obtuse to these things. I haven't had a great achievement or a great sense of satisfaction since I was a child, with, probably, OCD. Things felt so much clearer then - like I had a great grip on my mind and what I was after. To tell you a bit about my life story, I've had a competitive childhood. I've always wanted to impress my mom or some parent model, and this led me to improve various skills such as drawing or studying. Somewhat abruptly, I was sent to a private school for seventh grade onwards. I've made high honor roll several times, and even graduated at the top of my class, but after the first time I made honor roll, it never felt true. There was such a mechanical element to all the studying I did that I strangely could not claim who I was or am. I became distant towards myself to a point that it was like me looking and criticizing all the things that I'm doing in real life. Frequently, I even referred to myself in second or even third person. I'm sick of having these problems. My grades are falling in college, and I have a bare minimum of motivation to continue functioning. All I wanted was to help out my family and those I could care about. My mother and father work such mindless and hateful jobs to bring in just enough income. I'd feel guilty not to have a career to help them out if it weren't for the current mood I'm in. And, not surprisingly, I'm always waiting for that muse to show up, hoping she'll make me a better person so that I can love her and make the world right again. Of course, this is an illusion to help me get out of bed... Currently, I think I'm losing my artist's touch, and wish to revive it in some way. Whether or not I should continue my degree in Computer Science is unclear: right now I may just be disillusioned by my depression, or I may be right about how limited I feel about it. I wanted to buy Adobe Creative Suite 2 (Premium), but it's a pretty old version. Anyway, I came across this site, almomiz.com, and saw that they offered it for an extremely cheap price. Though, I was looking at their FAQs, and there was a question as to why their products are cheaper. Their response was... That's all because we offer only copies of license versions. This mean that you will not receive any printed documents (license or instruction) - just files and instruction in notepad's format, any special packages and will not be able to register this software online.
