Competition regulation could herald a new era for the industry
Further, the consequences of non-compliance may be serious for any business in terms of significant financial penalties; agreements being declared void; adverse impact on M&A deal including directions by the commission that the combination shall not take effect or directions that the parties to such combination to carry out necessary modifications to the combination; and loss of reputation and goodwill.
In view of above, the industry may devise appropriate mechanisms such as conducting training on competition related issues for its employees; devising competition compliance manual; preparation of competition compliance checklists in order to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Act. Broadly speaking, for ensuring compliance with the Act, it is beneficial to disseminate knowledge of what constitutes violation of the Competition Act and to create culture of compliance with the Act. more

Open Question: Would Collins be immune from this consideration ?
<Q/Could a corrupt outfit write accurate computer code ? If an outfit is writing inaccurate computer code does that mean to say the outfit is corrupt ? A/ by Mark T Member /Well, at a basic level, no. It could just be that you have bad programmers or they are stressed out or under-resourced or any number of other far more - regular problems. But that's not to discount the notion of smart people doing less than ethical stuff, I was involved with a firm that was very enthusiastic about outsourcing anything technical that wasn't nailed down, they held their technical staff largely in contempt. What happened. The folks they outsourced to became their primary competition and essentially terminated the company from within, basically the outsourcing firm fired the "customer", set a small office up in New York with some former models and dominated sales in the same area their former customer had been doing business for over 50 years. Being in the position to see the writing on the wall, I got out fast and ultimately, I left that segment of the industry - just because there was an astounding amount of stupidity on the part of some of the firms involved. There are many similar examples, I could note, but I find it - in a way reassuring that it's VERY VERY important to note that alot of the best programmers are also hackers or crackers and are the very same folks that write some of the viruses and whatnot that we see today. One of the best movies on this is called Sneakers - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKprr3tEB… I highly recommend it. In that way, it's very important to remember the total dominance of the technically super-competent and that's a concern. Chinese and Russian virus writers are among the very best coders on the planet. Americans are - pretty seriously negligent in this regard - and I say this as an American, but as an American who has seen the level of interest in the hardest and most challenging computer and engineering classes, and the utter disinterest most software engineers have for really knowing the stuff nearly as well as our Russian, Indian or Chinese counterparts, to say nothing of any other nationalities or even other Americans who certainly don't always have the interests of everyone else in mind. http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/200… IBM - has one of the funniest commercials on the subject - http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=… I myself tend to ascribe to the idea of a modified golden rule, I tend to be kindly towards people who do not know or are less intelligent than myself, and would appreciate a reciprocal action from people smarter than I. So I'm a Junior in college and I'm in the process of starting a partnership with a friend of mine for a software developement company. We've both got the majority of it down but one thing we're unsure about is fair payment. For the first few projects we're telling our programmers that we're all doing it for the sake of having something professional grade out on the market so that we have something under our belts when we go out into the job market. However if things go well we intend to keep the business going. We're thinking about doing a commission based pay at first. Paying each individual (programmers first since it's just them and us two) a percentage of the money made off of each unit sold. Then once we see a stream of steady revenue we intend on switching over to actual pay. Perhaps doing a bit of contracting somewhere in between to make sure that they get paid a little bit more. So I'm wondering what percentages are fair for each programmer at first? And since my friend and myself are running everything else, are there any models for what our own compensation should be? We're both aware that this is a start-up and that reinvestment in the company will certainly happen. Pay for us is certainly less important than reinvesting and paying the people that work under us, but we want to make sure we get the numbers right first before we have our employee's sign any kind of contract. moreResolved Question: Why does the open source model not work for Microsoft? I'm doing a business model for a class, and I have come up with these numbers for product production and other expenses: Cost of production for manufacturing a single electronic word-pen: •Backlit monochrome LCD screen - $3.50 •plastic/steel casing - $0.50 •Ink/refill cartridge ink - $0.25 •Plastic components inside pen (cartridge, ballpoint, brass disks, etc) - $1.15 •Software chip/wiring/other technology - $2.25 •USB port - $0.85 •Package costs - $1.10 Total: $9.60 Therefore, there is a mark-up of $10.39 or 108% (based on cost vs. retail price). Seriously, can someone be addicted to learning, because i think i am. I'm getting to a stage where i don't think it is normal and might need to be treated. From book reading, to the web, to video tutorials, I can't seem to get enough. The more I learn the more I want it. Married, with fulltime job, play basketball, run my own business and go out occasionally, so already "have a life" sort of say. But... if I don't spend at least few hours (2-4) a day reading, watching and learning something new, I can't sleep! Although I seem to always seek specific interests like “how things work”. Topics like software engineering, programming languages, technology related articles, 3D modeling, rigging and animation, game development, I cannot stop learning about them. Tons of subscriptions to newsletters, forums, that i don't even have time to read, but still i feel i will miss some important info if I don't look out. If I read say some unit testing book, and a new release comes out, I end up buying it and swallowing it because of some new info that might have been added. From user manual of a washing machines, toasters, to anything that got new info, if within my reach, I cant help but read it to learn how it works. Yup, it is freaking me out lately because I am becoming self-aware of the issue! Is this a serious addiction? PS: just finished reading a book about how the brain works to try and understand the issue better. Notice the vicious circle!?! moreResolved Question: Best accounting software for start-up LLC ?
A gentleman and myself are starting up another company, in the form of an LLC, and wanted your opinion on what you feel to be the best accounting software to be used with a small startup business. I've heard of titles such as Peachtree Complete Accounting, Quickbooks Premiere Pro, etc. Have you used any of these popular titles, and if so, why do you like it so much for your small business? (Pros & Cons) I'm the co-founder & CEO of an S corporation of which we hire a CPA to do all of our accounting work. We believe with this much smaller business startup model, we shouldn't be needing to spend the funds on hiring another CPA to do the work for this company, as we should be able to do it ourselves, but with the assistance of software recommendations made by you! moreResolved Question: what is the best macintosh pc (not a laptop) for budding photographers who want to start a small business?

So this is the story, I own a Dell Insperon (not sure of the model) and it recently broke down to such a level that it wont turn on, has a blue screen of death (BSOD), wont allow me to reload Windows Vista, or repair the computer, and has smoke coming out of it. So Being the dipshit that I am, I went and called Dell customer service, and as everyone knows is a pain. The guy was okay, helped me out somewhat but in the end my computer went six feet under. Now I feel like a fish out of water (again) just like I was a few years ago. So Simply, put I need a new computer. I was looking at the Mac Book Pro 17' Screen and I was pretty pleased with what I saw, its looks cool, has what I want, and I am an owner of an Iphone. Mac owners that I know are pretty pleased, but others I talk to are very negative about it. My friends recommend I get another Dell, (not happening) toshiba (Maybe) or a Alienware. I looked these up and Alienware is a gaming computer, Ofcourse it does have some of the most advanced drivers and graphic cards. All I need my computer to do is handle my music and College. I need a computer for Itunes with alot of memory and processor power for the burning, loading etc. that is fast and efficient, long life span, not alot of hassles and has the standard things like Microsoft word, Excel, Power Points, etc. I customized the Alienware and it came put to about $4000 and some change. I would like to know if this is a recommended computer for a college student who would like to use this laptop for academic use and business use, especially for medical billing, viewing and burning CD's and DVD's, listening to music, Microsoft Office and other software usage, and internet surfing. I would like to know if this model laptop is compatible with my medical billing software (Medisoft v15 Practice Management- 2.6Ghz processor or higher, 1GB of available hard disk space, 512MB of RAM, 16 bit+ color display, and Windows XP Professional recommended). Is this a good value or do you think I'd be able to get something for a better value and higher quality at a different time, is this computer recommended for its value and performance, and is this computer adequate for my needs? Do you also recommend upgrading memory to 4 GB for an extra $30.00 and upgrading to a 2.6 GHz processor also for a nominal charge? Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Like many PS3 owners I suffered a moment of major panic late last week when Sony confirmed at an investor conference they are planning to launch a paid subscription model for the PS3s online services in 2010. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/technology/news/article.cfm?c_id=5&objectid=10611339 Such a move would bring see Sony operating a two-tiered online services business model for the PS3 that would most likely operate along similar lines to Microsoft's Xbox Live. Xbox Live offers a premium Gold subscription and free Silver membership which only gives access to basic services. Sony was quick to reassure panicked PS3 owners that they would not have to pay to play, with Sony Computer Entertainment CEO, Kaz Hirai issuing a statement stating that the present level of free online services available in the PS3 would remain. Details around subscription based offerings will be announced in 2010. Sony has already confirmed that premium services will include peripherals, software and some online services. WOW. why. your disappinting ALOT of people, sure the reg service is still here but now your singling out others. much like silver/gold why sony now your online is not as good as live IMO, free was one advantage over LIVE WTF. moreResolved Question: Which internship would look better for me in the eyes of future finance employers?
I want to be either a financial analyst for a bank or corporation or a credit analyst. These are my two options as of now: 1. internship at local investment office/brokerage. Some "task" duties like calling clients, preparing for and leading morning meetings, and assisting with trading. Exposure to same software Wachovia Securities uses as a trading platform. 2. internship preparing taxes. Some marketing and customer service involved. Basic knowledge of small business and individual taxation gained. The advantage would be if i exceed some sales goal Option 1 is unpaid so while a future prospective employer wouldn't know or care it matters for my decision (but less so than the experience). Option 2 will pay reasonably well. Hopefully a third option at a private equity firm will present itself but I'm not counting on it. Previously I interned at a consulting company in Shanghai, China and did some financial modeling as well as client interaction. I'm a senior finance major at a typical state school, 3.2 GPA. moreResolved Question: Hi can you suggest a suitable printer for my business?

I had to buy a different computer, and on my old one I had my Home Inspection software on it . The problem I have is I went to install the CD on my new computer and my activation code will not work anymore. I called the company to get a new code, and sure enough they are no longer in business. My question is how can I transfer the software from my old computer to my new one? Can the geek squad crack the code if I took the software to them? By the way the software is about $400.00 so I really need to try to get it transferred from one computer to the other. both computers look just alike , but are different Dell models. the old one is a Dimension 8250 and the new one is Dell Optex GX280. The towers look identical. Any help would be great. I've started up a business, and we are developing a software product we intend to shop around to software distribution companies in the coming months. We want to secure our idea, so that nobody could steal it (example: we show it to a software company, they tell us no, and then behind our backs make the same thing themselves) The only thing I can say about this, is that it is based in 3d. Not completely a game, but 3d models and environments are central to our idea. How do we protect the idea so that we own the rights to this idea and nobody can steal it from us? It might be important to note that since this is still under development, it is currently incomplete if that matters. Another thing that may be relevant, this software is designed in a 3d modeler and has no actual "code" in the traditional sense. The thing is, we don't want to shop the product around before we know that our company owns the rights to the software. moreResolved Question: Why Open Source software has not been a big success?

If I want to go on Skype, that won't work either. All in all, nothing works on my laptop. I am now trying to make a business card, but the software will not let me save without paying a ridiculously expensive membership fee. I've tried capturing a picture of it using the PrtSc button and pasting it into Paint, but it won't let me. I have a new product, called Ladder. Ladder is an information management tool that allows application developers to focus on building Web pages that capture data and present it to end users. Web applications built on Ladder can be extended without changing the existing object model of the application, or affecting existing data. New web applications can add their object model to the tree when and where needed, allowing new applications to capture and present additional detail over time. Data is classified using the same classic Object Model technology used by OOP languages. Thus application developers need to spend less time concerning themselves with data architecture issues, and focus more time on application development issues in the business logic and presentation layers. Thus far I've been searching for various groups that could use Ladder, and post release announcements. I though was wondering if there were other ideas that other have found successful, interesting, or different that would help in this effort. Look forward to your comments and suggestions. moreVoting Question: Which is right for me,Windows or Mac?

I need to create screen shots and/or video instructions for processes within an application for work. I would prefer audio/video walk-throughs for new employees that I could show them to explain how to handle each function of our business model process. I am historically a Mac guy, and I know of some amazing screen capture/demo software for Macs, but the software I need to create tutorials for is Windows-based. I am looking for a modern, technologically advanced piece of screen capture/demo recording software that will visually represent mouse clicks (e.g. single left click, double left click, right click), streamline demos (so 30 seconds of idle time while I look over my notes doesn't make it into the final video), and other such features. I know of such apps for Macs (Silverback: silverbackapp.com), but am looking for the same kind of *quality* for a Windows counterpart. Today, This Week In Random Sports brings you cricket. No, not the shitty $10/month cell phone service that you only see on the North side of your city (or downtown depending on where you live). We’re talking real, live British/Indian Association cricket. Why you ask? Well that’s an excellent question, and one which we have no good answer for. Yet, we’ll try to formulate one. It all started last week at a company outing to the local minor league baseball game. I happened to be sitting in the near vicinity of two Indian folks (think dot com, no birds were harmed) and they began discussing cricket. I was somewhat intrigued (read, bored and roasting in the 90 degree heat) so I chimed in. They proceeded to explain how cricket works to me, and just like the old school game of telephone, I’ll relay those rules to you fine readers now after the jump. It all starts with the bowler. This is a bit of a contention around these parts as we are very, very staunch defenders of the fact that Sundays are for bowling. Therefore it is an unwritten rule that all cricket matches must begin on a Sunday. Look, we don’t make the rules, we just report them. Anyway, this bowler chap (like how we just drop into quaint British speak at our leisure?) tries to bowl the batter out. He basically throws a single seamed baseball at a dude with a cricket bat. The cricket bat, which is very handy in a barroom brawl, is shorter and wider than a traditional baseball bat. Think of that paddle that your principal used to beat that ass with before everyone’s parents pussed out and stopped spanking them. Once the guy pitches bowls the ball, all Hell breaks loose. Honestly, this is where I lost the thread of the conversation the other day. They started talking about how to make outs, how to score runs, and I hadn’t had any beer so my concentration was shot. I believe they said you can only get out if you hit the ball in the air to someone, miss the ball and let it hit a wicket (yes, they are called wickets in cricket as well), or if you fail to write software faster than the 2 Yanks that you’re trying to replace. You score by running in a straight line back and forth with a partner. The whole running with a partner thing sounds damned gay but it’d be hilarious if they ran into each other. I probably wouldn’t watch a 5-day match just to see that though. Apparently the five day matches aren’t as popular anymore as they’re supposed to be all formal and a dress-up occasion. There’s some new form of cricket called 20-over, or 20 something, or 21 Jump Street or some such shit. It’s supposed to be shorter and more fun because everyone just goes up there hacking like a beer league softball player instead of trying to slap it around like little Davie Eckstein. Either way, I’m sure cricket isn’t fun. It’s named after an annoying insect and you generally wear some goofy ass outfits to play it. Including some faggoty shin guards that make Barry Bonds’ armor look like cheesecloth. Cricket also led to the creation of country clubs starting at Sussex CCC (says Wikipedia). That should be sufficient proof that cricket officially Sussexes. Or something like that. Well, this has turned into a train wreck. We have a first in TWIRS, a game that appears to have no redeeming qualities. Too bad cricket, you really should follow the wireless carrier’s business model. Get people who are too poor to play a proper sport to jump on board. Now that’s the ticket!EDIT: Sourced from a blog. Will post the link shortly. moreResolved Question: Help with Laptop spec needed please?

theres no SIM card, thus no need to unlock it. its been deactivated, but since i lost my att phone, i want to use this again. First, the ability to unlock a phone is protected in the United States under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. As of 2006 the U.S Copyright Office allowed this exception because in their words: "The underlying activity sought to be performed by the owner of the handset is to allow the handset to do what it was manufactured to do - lawfully connect to any carrier. This is a noninfringing activity by the user...The purpose of the software lock appears to be limited to restricting the owner's use of the mobile handset to support a business model, rather than to protect access to a copyrighted work itself." If interested you can download this document from the U.S. Copyright Office, and begin reading starting at Page 42, Paragraph 5. that tells me that neither att nor sprint can tell me i cant switch the phone to att. i'd call them, instead of asking here, but i DONT HAVE A PHONE moreResolved Question: question about a HP Laptop I just bought off ebay...?

i need to get a laptop for college soon, and my choices are a dell latitude E6400/E6500 pretty much only difference tehre is the screen size. My college has a deal with dell to sell those two laptops with their software plus a 4 year insurance and free loaner if mine breaks which is very appealing. But i prefer the dell studio 15 because it can handle more tasks. i hear the latitude series is more along the lines of juist getting things done while the studio is a do it all model. plus the college told us that we need a few requirements if we dont purcahse a laptop from them which are: vista business and microsoft professional. aside from the software which model seems the better choice, dell latiitude or studio 15? i will be doing everything from word processing, movies, games, music etc, thanksthe school says they require it for their business program but i think its just a hoax to get people to buy it. There is really no other programs on vista biz and office prof that i would really need or couldnt get by itself. i do do some gaming (wow mainly but maybe some others down the line) moreVoting Question: Which of the following is not a main function of the entrepreneur? multiple choise?

I started as a guy who would assist in compiling all of the parts in our inventory in one big spreadsheet and prepare it for another group responsible for building the website (software as service). Starting pay was $9 but because after a week, I was showing excellence, I was immediately raised to $12 per hour. This is probably because I taught them how to use (and moved all of the data to) databases and I am also assisting heavily with the website building and designs, even though these are not in my job descriptions, because honestly, the other guys are not as competent as me, no offense and I did not mean to brag. I have intermediate knowledge in PHP, MySQL, Java, CSS, XHTML, JavaScript..all of these technologies are being put to good use in the workplace. Since I accumulated the knowledge of the different terms and elements of the business model, I can be confident to say that they will have a very hard time finding someone to replace my position. I have been working there for more than three months now, and I was expecting some sort of performance review (accompanied by a raise hopefully) but it never came. I know that it is still very early, but should I still continue with this company or try and find work somewhere? I know that our company is not being affected by the recession and is in fact doing very good. Facts: 0. I am being paid $12.00 in California. 1. I am doing stuff not in my job descriptions. 2. Most of these need expertise in certain technologies (PHP, etc) 3. After a few months, I understood the complicated business model. 4. I am 85% satisfied/happy with the workplace. 5. Recession is not affecting the company. Business is good as usual.Average salary for a junior programmer/web developer: 43,000+ My annual: 22,000+ Underpaid? moreVoting Question: what upgardes do i need to make to run this program?

the job ? <<Saas Integration or Software as a Service Integration is computer software that is offered through a remote hosted deployment model that allows for the integration of information between systems. Terminology Saas Integration is computer software that connects software components delivered through software as a service (Saas) or hosted models to other applications. These applications can be themselves Saas applications or follow the typical deployment pattern behind a firewall. The software consists of a set of enabling services that allow multiple processes running on one or more machines to interact across the Internet and other networks. This technology evolved to provide for interoperability in support of the move to distribute functionality between managed and distributed architectures, which are used most often to support and simplify complex, distributed applications. It includes web servers, application servers, and similar tools that support application development and delivery. A concept refers to the ability of an organization to precisely define, easily integrate and effectively retrieve data for both internal applications and external communication. A business objective is focused on the creation of accurate, consistent and transparent information flows. Saas integration emphasizes flexibility, agility and responsiveness. It is concerned with how the capability is integrated into business applications as well as how it is passed along from one business process to another. Definition The Saas integration model and methods can be extended to include the integration of anything connected to the Internet - desktops, servers or data services. It is an extension of information integration beyond the traditional notion of firewall to include data, information and services that exist independently of one another, and can be regarded as either a capability or a method. Saas integration is where integration and information standards[1] are able to interact to enable the exchange of information across many types of systems. It is highly dependent upon architectural patterns such as Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)[2] methods such as web services and standards such as XML. Saas integration is not distributed computing or grid computing software where a program is broken into multiple parts and distributed across a network for processing. A key difference between Saas integration software and traditional integration is that it has the ability to express the integration points as services rather than end point destinations for data. Saas integration can be explained as either hosted middleware as a service or the ability to integrate Saas applications. Views of Saas integration There are two complimentary views of Saas integration. First is the capability of offering integration through a hosted outside of the firewall method which require process integration. This is the 'function of integration' itself which is expressed as middleware or information integration through a hosted model. The second is the process of integrating Saas capabilities into other applications. Saas Integration is not dependent on a specific technology strategy or related to an explicit definition. It arose to address circumstances where users within organizations and industries independently source, model, manage and access data. Purpose of Saas Integration Saas integration can be used for a number of purposes and scenarios, following are examples: To increase the flexibility in how an organization or a system can access or provide to different pieces of information To bridge disparate pieces of a process together To make available to an organization a Saas or hosted application through a common set of data interfaces. To reduce integration complexity and expense System Design Saas integration is closely related to the mathematical principals described in Complexity or Chaos Theory in that the more participants involved in the integration the further away from absolute control a system is under. The participants are then left to influence one another which are governed by information exchange standards and principles. Architecturally the principles can be based on patterns of Service Oriented Architecture - SOA and business management is based on a series of service level agreements either real or implied all of which are managed under a common governance framework. The management of Saas integration is enabled through orchestration of data and information flows within the system environment. This function typically takes place within the core systems behind a firewall. Complexity Increases with Saas Software Deployments One effect of Software as a Service is that it spawns a number of independent components and functionality that requires integration into other data flows. A simplistic design pattern is to create a point to point integration between sy moreVoting Question: Use a digital camcorder to digitize/capture analog video from connected analog camcorder?
I have found out the hard way that analog video capture devices for laptops are an absolute joke. The USB ones digitized video of poor quality and some only worked with their own bundled inefficient crummy software. I finally splurged and tried a somewhat expensive PCMCIA card that seemed very promising, but it got extremely hot within about the first 15 minutes of use, then cooked both itself and my motherboard. Since I've been wanting to finally upgrade to a digital camcorder anyway, I've come up with an idea to use the digital camcorder as the capture/digitizer device. I know my existing analog camcorder (Sony HandyCam Hi-8) can record from an external source when in VTR mode. I was wondering if digital camcorders allowed this also, but of course digitize the video in the process. The young, incompetent clerks at a local electronics store (who wear blue shirts with small yellow logos on them) were rather cocky, refused to listen, and were very unhelpful, so they can be assured they'll never do business me in the future. In the meantime, I'm here asking... I'm not trying any more USB or PCMCIA analog video capture devices, and I'm not buying a desktop computer, so please don't suggest those options. Also please don't suggest services that turn tapes into DVDs, as I want to manually edit the content myself. After capture/digitization, I'm then wanting be able to easily transfer the video from the digital camcorder to my computer where I can edit the video with any program of my choosing. My laptop motherboard has been replaced and I'm starting all over. I'm just wondering if my "connecting analog camcorder to digital camcorder and transfer to computer for editing" theory is possible, and if it is, may I have some suggestions on brands and models of digital camcorders? I thank everybody in advance. moreVoting Question: What Business Model would make a higher ROI for our Internet Cafe?
Our family-owned DSL-LAN connected 13+1 seats Internet Cafe (located in the frontage of our bungalow house inside a middle-class 30yr-old 500-household neighborhood) had operated off & on for about 2 years - and had been patronized mostly by teen-age boys addicted to e-Gaming. As my Son (a Computer Engineer employed elsewhere as a full time Software Engineer) decided to close Shop 2 months ago, I hired a Computer Technician to recondition all our PCs - and to function as our Internet Cafe Attendant. Inasmuch as noisy excitable e-Gamers do not provide a quiet environment, I have decided to cater only to non-gaming Internet Users - mostly teenage girls. I envision our Internet Cafe to operate (24x7, if need be) as a Workplace - perhaps: (1st) to accept outsourced jobs as a Call Center, Data Transcription, etc; (2nd) to be an e-Learning Center for both the Young & Old. Q1: Are there e-Learning Courses (Computer/Internet Classes for Senior Citizens & for Pre-Schoolers) freely available in the Internet? I've read lots of of reviews and almost any laptop has complaints that keys fall off, the warranty doesn't cover the first things that usually go wrong, the fan blade is constantly loud, or the LCD screen blanks out after two weeks of use. I've never had these problems when purchasing a computer but it seems every model has them these days. I will be downloading as many as 12 business software applications with light video editing. I will also rely on this computer (ie, can't afford to send it into the manufacturer for four months). Any suggestions on a brand or model?I've looked into macs and they are too expensive for me. My wife has one and I love it, but it's almost $500 more than comparable laptops for what I'm using it for and lacks network capabilities with certain operating systems. moreResolved Question: what would be the most effective way to word a flyer?
