PLYMOUTH – Entergy Corp. has received approval from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to spin off its Pilgrim nuclear power plant and four other plants.
The agency's approval of the license transfer for the power plants took effect on Monday. The plants would be owned by a new public company, Enexus Energy Corp., and operated by a new joint venture known as EquaGen Nuclear LLC and owned by Enexus and Entergy.
New Orleans' Entergy needs approvals from the Securities and Exchange Commission and New York and Vermont regulators before the company can complete the transaction. Officials in New York and Vermont have raised concerns about the amount of debt that Enexus would need to shoulder.
Entergy is selling off all its nuclear plants that aren't connected to its core electricity distribution and transmission operations in the South. more
BNC to buy back stock The Business Journal of the Greater Triad Area
BNC Bancorp's board of directors has authorized a stock repurchase plan of up to $1 million, according to an announcement.
The Thomasville-based BNC, parent company of Bank of North Carolina, may buy those shares on the open market or in privately negotiated transactions, with to the goal to "enhance the value of it stock for its shareholders," the announcement said.
CEO W. Swope Montgomery Jr. said that the bank's board decided that while the capital that will be used to buy back stock "is extremely precious in these challenging times, the ability to repurchase stock at, or near, current levels represents a prudent course of action."
Shares of BNC (Nasdaq: BNCN) were trading Friday morning for $8.60 each, down from their 52-week high of $18.25. more
Jaspersoft and ALaS Consulting Partnering to Serve Business
ALaS was selected because of its expertise in Jaspersoft's business intelligence products and the extensive experience its professional engagement teams have in providing clients with system integration services for implementation, customization and deployment. The companies also announced that Alas is embedding Jaspersoft's BI and ETL products into its financial services control platform for front, middle, and back-office. This integration will provide ALaS software users with a fast and effective window on their data, as well as reducing implementation costs from an ETL perspective.
"Our clients want consulting services to help them customize their Jaspersoft implementations and it is critical to have partners like ALaS to deliver them," said Nick Halsey, Jaspersoft's vice president of marketing. more
Complaint threatens auction business
Solicitor Charles Alexander, who helped draft the complaint, told the program the practices of Mr Menzies's auction businesses "have the potential to be misleading and deceptive conduct contrary to the provisions of the Trade Practices Act".
The practices are alleged to include selling and rebuying the same paintings at auction, publishing questionable provenance notes for paintings in catalogues and obscuring ownership details.
Academic and art valuer Meaghan Wilson-Anastasios said if the industry claims about Mr Menzies were true, "then he has dramatically inflated the Australian art market, and with it inflated buyer confidence".
She told the program: "If he's done that to advance the interests of his auction houses, then that buyer confidence has in a sense been artificially inflated. more

PHOENIX -- Maricopa County Sheriff's detectives arrested five women after serving a search warrant at a business near 19th Street and the University of Phoenix. "When we went in there one of the ladies was hiding her Mexican ID in her enchilada to try and conceal the identification," Sheriff Joe Arpaio said. Deputies said three of the women are suspected of identity theft and fraud. A fourth woman was arrested on an outstanding warrant, a fifth was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement for being in the country illegally, deputies said. Detectives executed the warrant at Valley View Building Services and said they were originally after 25 people in connection with identity theft and fraud. "We completely support their decision to take those people away that have stolen identity, that have committed a crime. Absolutely they need to come and get those people," business owner Joel Votaw said. According to the sheriff's office, a three-month investigation revealed the company had furnished at least one employee who was working on the Fort Huachuca military base in Sierra Vista and determined to be in the United States illegally. Votaw told CBS 5, "The accusation that we knowingly put illegal people on base I find to be offensive." Votaw said not only did that employee produce what appeared to be a valid driver's license, he said all of employees were verified through E-verify. I can't think of a single part of the Constitution that the left ever has contention with save the 2nd Amendment. The attacks on our Constitution are ALWAYS coming from the right. Or Randy Paultard supporting the rights of businesses to turn away minorities from service. And now, the talk about repealing the 16th Amendment, to get rid of the federal income tax. This started off as talking about my plane ride home yesterday through IM, and it launched into a full scale tirade. After a while it started to get kinda comedic, I think xD Anyway, just wanted to get your opinions/relations/etc. on this: "Speaking of airplanes, you're never gonna believe this "We have pillows and blankets available for a price of $8." $8!! EIGHT DOLLARS! I just have to repeat that one more time because it is so monumentally ridiculous that I cannot even begin to fathom it--EIGHT! DOLLARS!! but you know what? oh yeah, you know what? I brought my car blanket and my jacket, both of which will be way more comfortable than that SANDPAPER you pass off as a pillow and blanket and make people pay $8 for, and I'm gonna have the best sleep of ANYBODY on this airplane, and it ain't gonna cost me a PENNY. So I just have two words for you, American Airlines: GET. EFFED. It's not gonna get better, just worse You hear about that Irish airline THAT CHARGES FOR BATHROOM USE?!?!?!? BATHROOM USE! You have to pay like, a buck fifty or something to squeeze into that tiny little bathroom that you can barely fit in and has no water coming out of the sink or in the toilet and is so ill equipped in the way of support bars that anytime you have turbulence (and you most assuredly will, because the worst turbulence of a plane ride, as a rule, automatically comes when you're trying to use the bathroom) you'll end up falling to the floor. And while we're on this tirade in regards to the airlines, ever notice that the pilot will turn the seat belt sign on and tell everyone to get back in their seats, and everyone will keep scrambling around the cabin not paying attention, and then the stewardess will shout into the PA, "SIT DOWN!" in a shrill voice? Hmmm...I wonder if the pilot and the stewardess sleep together sometimes... "Fly the friendly skies." Now, if you ask me, the skies are friendly. They're blue and cheerful and full of nice fluffy clouds...but that doesn't mean the people flying IN them are friendly. I mean, you hear the safety video end with "we thank you for coming to fly the friendly skies with us" and then you see the guy sitting next to you lighting a match. And notice that, as a rule, it is always extremely turbulent when the seat belt sign is off and completely smooth when it's on? It's almost like a secret code. "Okay...the seat belt sign is ON now...that means we're free to move about the cabin, and when they turn it OFF, we better go back to our seats" And you know what I really dislike? This term "nonstop." Now I don't know about you, but I tend to prefer if the plane stops. Preferably at an airport. And "luggage carousel." Why the heck do they say THAT? Are they implying it's supposed to be a bunch of horses on a merry go round bringing you your luggage on their backs? Because if there's anything about a luggage carousel, it's that it is the exact opposite of a carousel. And airlines wonder why they lose their business to Southwest. Well, I'll tell you why that is, that's because your luggage flies free, the tickets are $200 cheaper than any other airline, they don't charge you for pillows and blankets, and, holy, they're actually kinda COMFORTABLE, their flight attendants are more entertaining than the movies they show on other airlines, they finally got service to/from Boston Logan, and they don't treat their first class passengers like royalty and their coach passengers like criminals. Southwest Airlines: the only good airline around anymore. American Airlines: PWNED. Southwest used to be cruddy by airline standards, cause they never did anything to make the flight comfortable, you had to change planes just to go from L.A. to Salt Lake City, but Southwest got a lot better and the other airlines got so much worse that I'd say they are truly, by now, the best airline I've ever flown. Not earlier. A few years ago I wouldn't have said that. But now I'm saying that. And to top this tirade of mine off, let me tell you the worst airline flight I've ever had. So bad I even remember the date. July 27, 2007. Boston to Los Angeles, just like the flight I took yesterday. American Airlines. Scheduled departure: 7 p.m. Actual departure: 10:30 p.m. Time spent sitting on the tarmac: 3 1/2 hours. The computer I have now is a hand me down, the person who had it before me never updated. When I started installing new updates for the first time, it crashed while a service pack was being installed. I had to reinstall the OS, the reinstall went fine and all but now when the computer is being used and sometimes when it's not being used it freezes randomly, some days it'll freeze twice and other days it'll freeze more then five times. I was fostered from 4 months to 14 years, mentally, sexually and physically abused by the family. At 14 I was sent to a boarding school on my request, just could not make friends. At 17 the boarding school basically kicked me out without notice at 17 with £35 in my pocket, 3 suitcases and an address in London which was a children’s home. At 17 I worked for a small company for 15 years, where again I was verbally abused and eventually made redundant (sacked I call it) with out warning. From 19 to 28 I was in a abusive relationship where I finally broke free from. During this time I was bullied, intimidated by neighbours who eventually local kids got their mothers to start trouble with me which resulted me being dragged from my front door and beaten by three adults where they kicked and punched me in the head and spine in front of my at the time 10 year old daughter, the reason was a local girl accused me of hitting her (totally untrue). My daughter was being bullied by all the local kids and being physically attacked several times. She was eventually raped at 14. We finally moved more than 30 miles away. And a near tragic situation happened where my daughter was befriended by 2 girls 3 days after her 18th birthday, who drove her miles away, accused her of fancying one of their boyfriends and was dragged from the car down a quite lane, a knife was put to her throat threatening to kill her and they beat her to the ground and tried to wrap her up in barb wire which has left scars, they left her there at 3am. January this year, both girls got found guilty and got 3 and half years each. On top of all of this, I do not have any family to turn too, not one friend. Please believe me, I’m not a weird person, in fact, I always smile and say hi to my neighbours, I help them where I can, I do not look bad for 40. My daughter is a beautiful girl that avoids friendships with other girls because of what she has experienced which is understandable. I can’t stress enough, that I am not weird looking, I don’t behave odd, I just go about my business and am polite to people I meet, yet when I take my dog for a walk, there are times my neighbours give me dirty looks or ignore me. I took on a cat from the close I live in because it was abandoned, and one of my neighbours accused me once of not feeding him (she keeps putting food out for him) she keeps texting me to move him from her door mat because his setting of her dogs???????, I don’t understand why I get treated so bad, I can understand I was unlucky as a child, but when is the hate towards me going to end? I’m so depressed and so so lonely. I try to stay strong for my daughter, avoid crying because she will see my eyes that swell after. I have no one to talk to and I have no where to turn. I’m forty and have considered going to the social services for some kind of support and someone to talk too. I Really don’t know what to do or where to turn, this is not a feeling I have just had, its been like this for years and now its taking its toll on me. I cannot kill myself for my daughters sake as she will be alone. I just exist, I don’t live. I'm so alone and feel despair right now. I really don't want to live anymore. I can't take another day. I wake in the morning and hide under my covers, i dont want to face the day until i have too, to feed the pets and try to act normal for my daughters sake. I was thinking today that taking an overdose would be devistating to my daughter to accept for my death so i thought that i could crash my car into a wall looking like i have lost control of the car and that way it would not be known a suicide. I know nothing about cars and have always used a cousin's garage for repairs but have since moved away. The cost was £320 (inc VAT) for completing an annual (major) service and supplying and fitting 4 replacement brake lines and 1 replacement brake pad, all on a Ford Puma 1.7ltr. WASHINGTON (AP) -- Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke heads to Congress Wednesday with a message of reassurance: The Fed stands ready to take new steps to bolster the recovery if the economy worsens. The Fed chief kicks off back-to-back appearances on Capitol Hill at a delicate time for the economy. The recovery, which had been flashing signs of strengthening earlier this year, is losing momentum. And fears are growing that it could stall. Consumer have cut spending. Businesses, uncertain about the strength of their own sales or the economic recovery, are sitting on cash, reluctant to beef up hiring and expand operations. A stalled housing market, near double-digit unemployment and an edgy Wall Street shaken by Europe's debt crisis are other factors playing into the economic slowdown. Bernanke, who is scheduled to deliver his twice-a-year economic report to the Senate Banking Committee on Wednesday afternoon, will probably again downplay the odds that the economy will slide back into a "double dip" recession. But at the same time, he'll strike a more cautious tone, pointing out that the fragile economy is still vulnerable to shocks. To strengthen the economy, the Fed is likely to hold a key bank lending rate at a record low near zero well into 2011, or possibly into 2012, economists predict. That would mean rates on certain credit cards, home equity loans, some adjustable-rate mortgages and other consumer loans would stay at their lowest point in decades. Ultra-low lending rates, however, haven't done much lately to rev up the economy. Consumers and businesses are cautious and aren't showing an appetite to spend as lavishly as they usually do in the early stages of economic recoveries. Even though the prospects of deflation -- a widespread and prolonged drop in prices for goods, the value of stocks and homes and in wages -- is remote, some Fed officials are worried about it. Keeping rates low would help prevent deflationary forces from taking hold. Against such a backdrop, Fed officials at their June meeting cut their forecasts for growth this year. First of all I am a vet. Often I am thanked, and appreciate it, but thanked for "defending our country" and I don't say anything, but the truth is all the work we did had NOTHING to do with defending even one state in America. Who gives us the right or permission to do some of the things we do? For example, there was a US Navy SEAL operation where they went into a 3rd world nation to take out the president of this small nation. In doing so, where they landed, they came across a house. To avoid the "chance" of being reported the husband, wife, and children all had their throats cut. The president was removed and replaced by a "US approved" president. What if another country did this to us? What if you did not like our government. Would you be ok if you saw in the news the next day that Syria had snuck in a special group to replace them? What about that family? Also since when did spending the entire state of Kansas Federal Income Tax on ONE airplane become sensible? Why are we spending Billions against an enemy who spends thousands? Didn't the cold war teach us anything? Yeah, it's cool how a bomb can wipe out a fly on a wall, but for $1,890,000.00???? I am I alone in thinking defense spending is not only mis-directed, but WAY over budget? I grew up in a conservative family, I'm still very socially conservative since I am Christian. I generally vote for republican candidates (those that don't support abortion) but fiscally/economically I'm confused ever since the economy tanked. Basically I'm anti big spending/ racking up debt, I'm for capitalism and free market because of the fact it creates competition and innovation and fast progress in technology which is always needed. However after following the news of various sources (even fox news) it's clear that greed and corruption in wall st. was a huge part of this mess. I am very anti-greed and corruption and hate it when I see it in businesses and services I use everyday. I hate being nickled and dimed especially as a college student on a less than $1000 budget despite working and selling what I can for income. Basically I just recently read about the recent Financial Reform that was passed and I am clearly for it. I support free market and capitalism but believe that for it to be most effective there needs to be some kind of oversight and transparency to prevent greed and corruption from Big Business that got us into this mess. I am for Businesses that are ethical if that makes sense. I hope to start a Business someday time permitting. But I am not for Big Business controlling everything. whenever I ask a question i notice people are not answering the question they simply refer me to this website. First of all I know these work at home sites are scams. who is really going to pay me 1000 usd a week to do data entry if they never even talked to me in person. If I am going to make money on my own I need to have ideas of services that people need such as Tutoring English to foreigners, Fixing peoples computers, and cooking for those who feel they do not have time to prepare their own meals and are tired of eating fastfood. I know when it comes to starting a business it is more of what services you can offer then money you need. It really does not cost anything to tutor a person in English. it does not cost me anything to fix someones computer. sewing buttons or mending shoes i just need needles and thread and some glue. I know that everyone has a skill they can market it is just many do not know how to, Do not have the ability to stick through it, or feel they will fail at it. I feel that the only way to succeed at something is to keep on trucking. There are more opportunities now then there have ever been. People say no one is hiring. High turnover jobs are always high turnover. I understand that when people say there are no jobs available they are referring to those that pay wages that can support a family. When I look at job sites I look at all the listings. I do not know of any employer who wants to be deluged with calls and emails asking for employment if he is not looking to hire someone. Time is just precious as money. I also understand it is harder for certain groups to find jobs then others. According to my research the unemployment rate is lowest for Caucasians then any other race. Education is also a factor. Just graduating high school raises the rate of unemployment. I understand when it comes to race it is very unfair but when I hear how many African Americans and latinos talk i am not interested in having them work for me. I hear them cursing all the time and I have a feeling they talk that way on interviews. I also know some attitudes are poor for jobs. I understand age is a big factor. I know most employers prefer workers between 25 and 40. I am guessing they feel they are less likely to get injured sick or call out. In many fields I understand women are more likely t be disciminated against. I know most employers would rather have a male stock shelves or push carriages. I know that when choosing cashiers they want younger workers. When i go to the Supermarket I try to have someone young ring me up because I feel they would be faster. I also understand younger workers in the eyes of employers are easier to train, more flexible. Older workers are more set in their ways. I also know certain body types are considered more. Most customer service jobs are held by young attractive employees over someone who is obese. I understand that disabled workers have difficulty because employers might think they are going to be slow to learn a new skill. When i go to the Supermarket I would prefer not to have a Disabled person bag my groceries because i fear they will drop something or take longer. I also know that jobs will go to the person most qualifies and many times the only ones who will apply for that type of position is a Disabled person. I am not meaning to be prejudice but it is an observation I have made I also feel people are too pessimistic. I would rather hire someone who jsut considers the economic situation a reason to improve his interviewing skills as opposed to someone who thinks the world will fall apart. Rather then have 9 percent unemployment. we have 90% employment rate. I also know that unemployment is due to many reasons not just layoffs. I know many will not take the first job offered if they are on unemployment. i know a large portion of the unemployed are those who are actively looking for work who are yet still employed. Many are unemployed because they left willingly. i am unemployed because I left my job on my own not because I was fired or laid off. My father has been appointed the legal custodian of my grandfather. In gaining these responsibilities, the court made it clear that he must fully document all financial dealings concerning my grandfathers affairs. This documentation has been and continues to be reviewed by the court as the court sees fit. Why is a custodial parent called the custodian of a child yet the court couldn't care less what is done with the child support. I pay in excess of $1400 per month for one child yet, when my son comes to see me, he is wearing old clothing, lacks a haircut and informs me that his mom doesn't have the money to buy him these items / services. When I asked the Department of Child Support Services if they would investigate where the money is going, they said that it is none of my business where the money is going and the mother is permitted to spend it as she sees fit. My lawyer made similar statement. How can this be? I am paying "Child Support" for the benefit of my child. Shouldn't the court care where that money goes? Why is it any different then the duties my father is performing. Doesn't the court view the appointment of custody over a elderly person in the same light as a child? It is very frustrating.She claims that she only makes $900 per month however, she works for a construction company in San Diego. She is trained in landscape design / draftsmanship. Though she is never hired full time to draw / design, she generally recieves a bonus for drawing that she does on accounts that are won. These 'bonuses' can add up and while we were married, that portion of her income was a welcome addition. Now that she changed companies and I don't know anyone, she is free to hide under the table income without any fear of me finding out. (sorry for the rant) I am in the military so the court counts my non-taxable housing allowance, which is meant for my current wife and children, as income and considers it when calculating my child support obligation. They recently had an incident at their business that has been very traumatic for the owner as well as other people involved. I saw her last night in the thick of it when she was incredibly upset and felt horrible for her. I have no knowledge of the incident other than what she told me directly, but depending how it all falls out, things could get ugly for her and/or her business.
