The seeds portion of the business had 15 percent first-half growth to $1.74 billion. Overall results at Syngenta for the first half of 2008 saw sales up 20 percent to $7.3 billion.
Earnings per share for Syngenta as a whole totaled $15.93 per share, up 28 percent from last year.

I need to make some money to start up a little business so I was considering moving in with my wealthy sister and working for her but I want to know what would be a fair price because I don't work for peanuts. Today we mourn the passing of an old friend by the name of Common Sense. Common Sense lived a long life but died from heart failure at the brink of the millennium. No one really knows how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He selflessly devoted his life to service in schools; hospitals, homes, factories and offices, helping folks get jobs without fanfare and foolishness. For decades, petty rules, silly laws and frivolous lawsuits held no power over Common Sense. He was credited with cultivating such valued lessons as to know when to come in out of the rain, the early bird gets the worm, and life isn't always fair. A veteran of the Industrial Revolution, the Great Depression, and the Technical Revolution, Common Sense survived cultural and educational trends including feminism, body piercing, whole language and "new math." But his health declined when he became infected with the Technological Revolution with the "if-it-only-helps-one-person-it's-worth-it" virus. In recent decades his waning strength proved no match for the ravages of overbearing federal regulation. He watched in pain as good people became ruled by self-seeking lawyers and enlightened auditors. His health rapidly deteriorated when schools endlessly implemented zero tolerance policies, reports of six-year-old boys charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate, a teen suspended for taking a swig of mouthwash after lunch, and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student. It declined even further when schools had to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student but cannot inform the parent when the female student is pregnant or wants an abortion. Finally Common Sense lost his will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, churches became businesses, criminals received better treatment than victims, and federal judges stuck their noses in everything from Boy Scouts to professional sports. As the end neared, Common Sense drifted in and out of logic but was kept informed of developments, regarding questionable regulations for asbestos, low flow toilets, "smart" guns, the nurturing of Prohibition Laws and mandatory airbags. Finally when told that the homeowners association restricted exterior furniture only to that which enhanced property values, he breathed his last. Common Sense was preceded by death by his parents Truth and Trust, his wife, Discretion, his daughter, Responsibility, and his son, Reason. My husband and I recently found out we were cheated by our friends and business partners. While we were on business together, both of us willingly put our company names when we do advertising, and we all agreed to split the cost for the service fee. We also contributed furnitures and and phones in the office so that we could make contacts. Well, the business fell through and we all had to pack our stuff and move on ( we didn't even have an official split cos none of them would return our calls). Now, we received mails saying our advertising fees are overdue and they will take actions against my husband and I unless we pay. So I emailed all the ex business partners and told them what happened. One of them replied that since the bill is addressed to my husband, it's none of his business. I felt so stupid for having thought these people are our friends and partners. I cannot trust anyone after this incident. I feel like wanting to bring them down and never get up again. I am involved in the prelimenary stages of opening a dealership selling kitchen furniture. We have a small group who is experienced in sales, office management, & service in the business. There is an investor who has expressed interest in opening a shop that he wants us to hire us for. They have proposed that we incur some of the direct costs by receiving a lesser base salary, paying 20% of our paycheck in to buying shares in the company and then sharing a certain percentage of the profit quarterly or annually. 20% being taken because we don't have any money up front to buy shares. I am wondering is if this is normal or is this inappropriate? I get the feeling they they are trying to stick it to the little guy.IMO we should be fully compensated for our work as producers and if we were to buy shares that we would then fair and square share the profits as decided. I went to buy a new refrigerator & haggling over the price. I asked the salesman if he hired the cheapest contractor for storm repairs. He just stared at me with a blank look & said nothing. I thanked him for his time and then turned and walked out. Next I went to the furniture store and picked out $4000 of furniture and negotiated the price down to $3500. A veteran of the Industrial Revolution, the Great Depression, and the Technological Revolution, Common Sense survived cultural and educational trends including feminism, body piercing, whole language and new math. But his health declined when he became infected with the If-it-only-helps-one-person-it's-worth-it bug. In recent decades his waning strength proved no match for the ravages of overbearing federal regulation. He watched in pain as good people became ruled by self-seeking lawyers and enlightened auditors. His health rapidly deteriorated when schools endlessly implemented zero tolerance policies, reports of six year old boys charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate, a teen suspended for taking a swig of mouthwash after lunch, and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student. It declined even further when schools had to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student but cannot inform the parent when the female student is pregnant or wants an abortion. Finally, Common Sense lost his will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, churches became businesses, criminals received better treatment than victims, and federal judges stuck their noses in everything from Boy Scouts to professional sports. As the end neared, Common Sense drifted in and out of logic but was kept informed of developments, regarding questionable regulations for asbestos, low-flow toilets, smart guns, the nurturing of Prohibition Laws and mandatory air bags. Finally when told that the homeowners association restricted exterior furniture only to that which enhanced property values, he breathed his last. Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by three stepbrothers: Rights, Tolerance and Whiner. I placed an order - they entered it wrong. I had to drive back to store to correct the errors since they would not help over phone or on line. Then they switched delivery on me 3 times and were rude to me when I told them I was not available the days they wanted to deliver. Then they finally delivered but did not have the right furniture,after they'd called and rescheduled again so all would be there. When I called to complain, they hung up on me! I called management who promised to look into it and call me back. They never did. I finally called and told them to come pick this furniture up and refund my money. They argued with me! After threatening to call the better business boro, they finally agreed to refund and pick up the furniture. I am disusted. what should I do to make sure no one else is treated this way?
