Bread retailers urge govt to consider their interest
Retailers attending the Entrepreneur of the Year (EYA) road show at the ministry of enterprise and employment auditorium on Wednesday said they had nothing to gain from selling bread anymore simply because they only get a 15c profit. One retailer said in essence, this meant there was no profit at all because even the 15c was exhausted in other expenses involved in selling bread.
Bread bakers only have their interests at heart and they never bother to think what the retailers have to gain. The 15c profit amounts to nothing because the bread has to be packaged in plastic bags which cost 20c each. Already that is an expense for us retailers, he said.
The retailers urged government to make it a point that their interests were also well represented across the board during the negotiations on bread price increases. more

Theo Paphitis admits he does judge people on their appearance
Entrepreneur Theo Paphitis returns along with his Dragons' Den colleagues for a sixth series of the BBC business show.
The series enables people with ideas to pitch to the panel, in a bid to win financial backing from at least one of them.
The Cypriot-born businessman, who is chairman of stationery chain Ryman and a former chairman of football club Millwall, reveals what makes a successful pitch in the den and how competitive he gets on and off the show.
Why did you want to get involved with the show?
It was either that or do the ironing with Mrs P, and when it comes to ironing I'm pretty useless.
Seriously, I resigned as Millwall chairman and coincidentally I got a phone call form the BBC asking me if I had seen the show.
How financially rewarding has backing some of the ideas on Dragons' Den been for you?
You have winners and you have losers, these are all really early start ups. more
Turkey, a phoenix rising from ideological battles past
Gone were the days of reform and in came religion: closing down pig farms, attempts to restrict alcohol advertising on television and a prime ministerial acknowledgement that the headscarf is a "political symbol" to boot. Joining the EU ceased to be a priority.Statism also reared its head. The AKP no longer aspired to liberalize the state but rather to change the people within it. A power struggle erupted between secularist and Islamist ideologues over the control of the powerful state apparatus. There is the Constitutional Court case now being heard to ban the AKP and 71 AKP officials, including Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan for "anti-secular activities," and the government-backed Ergenekon case indicting 86 suspects - including four retired generals - for seeking to foment violence in order to encourage a military coup. more

I am thinking about a business. The iphone would have activated sim card that was owned by me(my biz name) with a bunch of popular apps. You can take the phone home to test signal strength at home and to and from work, check voice quality, and play with the apps. All for 1 day at 30 dollars. Pick up the phone on say a wednesday and drop it back off the next day. Also....the possibility to rent an additional phone to compare like the google nexus 1. You would have 2 phones. 1 from At&t(iphone) and 1 from say Verizon(nexus or blackberry etc) for additional $10 perhaps. So what do you think? Will such a service be sought after. moreOpen Question: will i get into A&M (Mays school of business)?

Hello, I came up with an idea to sell my services online. However, I'm not sure if I need to register my business and pay tax as I would maximum get £200-£300 a month if its successful. Basically the idea is that for a particular charge I would retouch digital photos for people and it would include drawing with special software (so you can call it art as well). I would certainly have some expenses as well like laptop and tablet depreciation, paypal fee for each transaction, website hosting monthly fee and maybe some other expenses like advertising. I would also be willing to reinvest money I get from this hobby/service into new equipment and software. So my question is how do I register this legally as i wouldn't say its a serious business (i wouldn't be making much profit of it, sometimes when i lack ideas, i might not sell anything at all) Second question is, Would the situation change if I sold the same service on ebay on my personal acc as i would automatically be paying ebay 15% tax which goes to Luxembourg and fee for each paypal transaction as well. And last question, if I sell my digital photo work on a lot of different websites like ebay, shutterstock.co.uk and my personal website how do I register it then. moreOpen Question: Solar Panels, and outside of the box?
Solar Panels seem to be pretty expensive, as well as wind powered generators. Does anyone know of any businesses or services where I can find panels for a really low price (respectively). How about any other outside of the box style solutions for harnessing the natural energies around us? (sun, wind, etc)1) Gone, your dumb and know nothing about science if you think you cannot build your own. Its just not cost effective to DIY. 2) "Outside the box" is old, but is still as widely used as the phrase "you're retarded." 3) When I speak of the "O.T.B." ideas, i mean like harnessing rain runoff from your house to recharge batteries if you live in a wet area, or geothermal energy, having a colony of hamsters to run on wheels connected to generators, etc. Though you are critical in judgement, you seem to be lacking in the department of critical thinking. moreOpen Question: How do you guys feel about IVOB? Penny stock now? But....?
But they just hit the news! INVO Bioscience, Inc. (OTCBB: IVOB), a medical device company focused on treatment options for patients diagnosed with infertility, announces that the US National Institute of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization (WHO) has approved a 100 patient study being conducted by Galaxy IVF in three INVO centers in Pakistan. The purpose of the study is to evaluate a low cost stimulation protocol combined with INVO to make an IVF affordable procedure available across the large infertile/sub-fertile population. The study will use a minimum ovarian stimulation protocol with the primary endpoint being number of follicles obtained and the fertilization rate. The secondary endpoints will be pregnancy rate and cost of treatment. Recruitment has begun for the study and Dr. Ranoux will be attending the first INVO cycles at each of the clinical sites. Galaxy IVF has discontinued the original study started in the IVF center in Lahore because of major protocol violations by the site. The new study will be performed in INVO centers that have been trained and have already performed INVO cycles per the protocols outlined in the INVOcell Instructions for Use. This additional data will support the widespread acceptance of the INVO in the Middle East. The approved protocol can be reviewed at the NIH site link: http://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01058252?term=Galaxy+Pharma&rank=1 or the WHO site link: http://apps.who.int/trialsearch/Trial.aspx?TrialID=NCT01058252 About INVO Bioscience INVO Bioscience (IVOB) is a medical device company, headquartered in Beverly, Massachusetts, focused on creating simplified, lower cost treatment options for patients diagnosed with infertility. I recently started to make a little money by writing out of my home for an online publication. They do not take any taxes out and pay me through direct deposit, so it's up to me to file taxes. I'm a photographer and the writing is photography related, so I wanted to officially start a business for my photography and have the writing be a part of that. However, I've never started a business and I've never paid self-employed taxes before, and have no idea where to start. I've browsed through several things online but none are specific for me and are very confusing. Some say to pay every quarter, some every year. Some say I need to register my business, others don't. I don't want to be over or under dressed...So I guess my question really is what would be in between Business casual and semi formal? And if they think you don't have enough funds or not willing to have a sense of orgasmic pleasure in getting yourself into debt, they'll simply nod to your responses and not talk to you in a friendly customer service like manner. 3) Pretty much all yuppies are fake people.
