PLYMOUTH – Entergy Corp. has received approval from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to spin off its Pilgrim nuclear power plant and four other plants.
The agency's approval of the license transfer for the power plants took effect on Monday. The plants would be owned by a new public company, Enexus Energy Corp., and operated by a new joint venture known as EquaGen Nuclear LLC and owned by Enexus and Entergy.
New Orleans' Entergy needs approvals from the Securities and Exchange Commission and New York and Vermont regulators before the company can complete the transaction. Officials in New York and Vermont have raised concerns about the amount of debt that Enexus would need to shoulder.
Entergy is selling off all its nuclear plants that aren't connected to its core electricity distribution and transmission operations in the South. more
BNC to buy back stock The Business Journal of the Greater Triad Area
BNC Bancorp's board of directors has authorized a stock repurchase plan of up to $1 million, according to an announcement.
The Thomasville-based BNC, parent company of Bank of North Carolina, may buy those shares on the open market or in privately negotiated transactions, with to the goal to "enhance the value of it stock for its shareholders," the announcement said.
CEO W. Swope Montgomery Jr. said that the bank's board decided that while the capital that will be used to buy back stock "is extremely precious in these challenging times, the ability to repurchase stock at, or near, current levels represents a prudent course of action."
Shares of BNC (Nasdaq: BNCN) were trading Friday morning for $8.60 each, down from their 52-week high of $18.25. more
Jaspersoft and ALaS Consulting Partnering to Serve Business
ALaS was selected because of its expertise in Jaspersoft's business intelligence products and the extensive experience its professional engagement teams have in providing clients with system integration services for implementation, customization and deployment. The companies also announced that Alas is embedding Jaspersoft's BI and ETL products into its financial services control platform for front, middle, and back-office. This integration will provide ALaS software users with a fast and effective window on their data, as well as reducing implementation costs from an ETL perspective.
"Our clients want consulting services to help them customize their Jaspersoft implementations and it is critical to have partners like ALaS to deliver them," said Nick Halsey, Jaspersoft's vice president of marketing. more
Complaint threatens auction business
Solicitor Charles Alexander, who helped draft the complaint, told the program the practices of Mr Menzies's auction businesses "have the potential to be misleading and deceptive conduct contrary to the provisions of the Trade Practices Act".
The practices are alleged to include selling and rebuying the same paintings at auction, publishing questionable provenance notes for paintings in catalogues and obscuring ownership details.
Academic and art valuer Meaghan Wilson-Anastasios said if the industry claims about Mr Menzies were true, "then he has dramatically inflated the Australian art market, and with it inflated buyer confidence".
She told the program: "If he's done that to advance the interests of his auction houses, then that buyer confidence has in a sense been artificially inflated. more
