Reusable bag entrepreneur Andy Keller has a lot to say about being well, an entrepreneur. Andy was a software guy back in 2005 when he happen to visit a landfill during a home improvement project and was shocked to discover just how many plastic bags were swirling in the wind…

…on fences, on trash heaps, with birds picking on them…. He told me that this was the moment that got him started on his entrepreneurial adventure. “Note to self," he said, “I need to start using reusable bags."

Of, course, back in 2005, the reusable bag trend was just starting. And, people were then, as they are now, carefully purchasing them and carelessly leaving them in the car instead of carrying them into the store with them.

So, Andy set out to create a reusable bag that was easy to carry and harder to leave in the car. more

UZBEKISTAN: CAPITAL AMNESTY INITIATIVE STALLS IN THE FACE OF

"People are wary of this [capital amnesty law]," said a Tashkent entrepreneur, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to concern about possible government retribution for his comments.

"The government adopts many good laws and offers promises," the entrepreneur continued. "But the implementation of laws is not good. There were many situations [in the past] when the government did not keep its promises. Why should people trust this time?"

Uzbek entrepreneurs complain that despite the existence of legislation intended to promote small business activity, as well as shield citizens from undue intrusions by the government, banks continue to routinely violate the privacy of depositors. According to some Uzbek business owners, banks still report to the Uzbek security services any deposit or transfer exceeding $1,000. more

Government says yes to bus fare hike

Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Minister Datuk Noh Omar said the new fares would be announced before Hari Raya in October.

Noh, however, shot down the Pan Malaysian Bus Operators Associations appeal for a 100% fare increase, saying it would be a great burden on the public.

Their appeal for an increase cannot be refused but a 100% increase means a RM30 fare would be RM60. This is too high, he said, adding that the memorandum from the association was accepted during the National Inflation Council meeting chaired by the Prime Minister on Monday.

Noh said the ministry has drawn up a formula on the fare increase, which it now has to discuss with the association.

We understand their financial problem because prices of diesel, tyre and engine oil have gone up a few times since 2005, while fares have not increased, he told reporters after presenting excellence award to 68 ministry staff here yesterday. more
