Halliburton opens Malaysian manufacturing center

Halliburton Co. has officially opened a manufacturing center in the Malaysian province of Johor, the company's sixth in the Eastern Hemisphere.

The 215,000-square-foot facility will manufacture completion equipment and cementing tools to significantly expand Halliburton's supply chain capabilities in the region, and is the latest move to further narrow the gap between Eastern and Western Hemisphere operations.

About 100 employees are currently employed at facility, located in Senai, 37 miles northwest of the capital city of Singapore, and 250 are expected by year's end.

"The addition of the Johor facility is another step in our company's strategic plan to concentrate more of our investments and supply chain resources to our key growth areas," said David King, president of Halliburton's Completion and Production division. more

Reserve deputies handling industrial traffic duties

PASCAGOULA -- Chevron Pascagoula Refinery has hired reserve sheriff's deputies for traffic control on Industrial Road while major expansions and other projects take place.

Between four to eight reserve deputies are positioned every weekday morning and evening around shift changes for Chevron and other industries when about 11,000 vehicles travel the road, Sheriff Mike Byrd said.

Chevron spokesman Steve Renfroe said the company is using a parking area near the old county airport for contractors, including those working on the refinery's $500 million expansion of its continuous catalyst regeneration unit.

Because other industries' entrances are located north of Chevron's and closer to U.S. 90, Renfroe said, the company wanted to ensure that traffic around the other plants would not become snarled in lengthy traffic jams. more

Resolved Question: Phone company attempting to collect on alleged customer debt 6 years after the fact?

I recently received a collection call from a collection agency, which informed me that they were attempting to collect an amount I allegedly owed to Sprint Long-Distance, which was related to a phone number I have not had for over 6 years. I was very suprised to hear of this, because as far as I am aware, I had never done business with Sprint. I contacted Sprint and was told that 6 years ago when I had Earthlink as an internet service provider, I had been given Sprint long distance as part of the package I subscribed to. I never paid Sprint directly: I only paid Earthlink for everything. I then called Earthlink customer service and verified that I did not owe them anything, that my account to them had been entirely cleared when I discontinued service with them. The Sprint representative then told me I should write a letter to Sprint about the matter, which I did, and in which I asked for documentation about the $58 the collection company said I owed from 6 years ago. I have not heard back from Sprint but in the meantime I am getting 2 to 3 calls a day from this collection agency demanding that I pay this bill. I am fairly sure that either Sprint is entirely in error about this bill, if they are not actually intentionally trying to make up phony charges and then basically use a collection service to harrass people into paying relatively small amounts just to end the annoying collection calls. I also question whether it is legal to try to collect on an over 6 yrs old bill, when they have made no attempt to contact me earlier about it. Advice? Suggestions? Anyone else ever experienced this? Is this a new corporate ruse for making money, finding ways to cook up fake charges from years past, and then harrass people into paying? more

Resolved Question: an unusual dream about jobs...?

I keep having dreams that I am late for 4 different old jobs, and that I have to be at them at the same time, and I have to choose which one to go to, being that they are at the same time... when I try to make a choice, I end up at one that I was not headed to, but they are happy to see me. Later, I am trying to get to work, but the car doesn't work, so I try to take the bus, but the bus takes me somewhere else. Usually it is to a far out locale, where it is in an afluent community, or an area where few people live. No matter how I try to go back to try to start my jobs, I am prevented from staying or getting there, always being taken by bus drivers, or other drivers somewhere else. the harder I try to get to my old jobs, the longer the distance becomes, and the more frantic I become, because I feel like I am letting down people who need my services. I also feel that if I am not there, the businesses will fail, or that persons will be upset with me letting them down. But, I never can return, back no matter what I do... more

Resolved Question: Is the left happy now that America is no longer rated the #1 most competitive world economy?

GENEVA (Reuters) - Switzerland knocked the United States off the position as the world's most competitive economy as the crash of the U.S. banking system left it more exposed to some long-standing weaknesses, a report said on Tuesday... ...The WEF bases its assessment on a range of factors, key for any country to prosper. The index includes economic data such as growth but also health data or the number of internet users. The study also factors in a survey among business leaders, assessing for example the government's efficiency or the flexibility of the labor market. The WEF applauded Switzerland for its capacity to innovate, sophisticated business culture, effective public services, excellent infrastructure and well-functioning goods markets. The Swiss economy dipped into recession last year, too and had to bail out its largest bank UBS. But its economy is holding up better than many peers and most banks are relatively unscathed by the crisis, which drove U.S. banks into bankruptcy. The WEF said the U.S. economy was still extremely productive but a number of escalating weaknesses were taking its toll. Concerns were growing about the government's ability to maintain distance to the private sector and doubts rose about the quality of firms' auditing and reporting standards, it said. http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSTRE58718620090908Last time I read the Constitution, the Congress holds the National Coinpurse & the right to legislate economic policy. Resolved Question: What is the Federal Universal Service Charge? If rate changes, can I cancel with my wireless carrier?

Just recently (July 1st, 2009) Verizon sent me a notice saying. "FUSC Change The Federal Universal Service Charge (FUSC) is a Verizon Wireless charge that is subject to change each calendar quarter based on contribution rates prescribed by the FCC. On July 1, the FUSC for products other than the Verizon Hub changed to 2.75 percent of assessable wireless charges except for separately billed interstate and international long distance charges." On my contract it says under Our Rights To Make Changes: "Your service is subject to our business policies, practices and procedures, which we can change without notice. UNLESS OTHERWISE PROHIBITED BY LAW, WE CAN ALSO CHANGE PRICES AND ANY OTHER CONDITIONS IN THIS AGREEMENT AT ANY TIME BY SENDING YOU WRITTEN NOTICE PRIOR TO THE BILLING PERIOD IN WHICH THE CHANGES WOULD GO INTO EFFECT. IF YOU CHOOSE TO USE YOUR SERVICE AFTER THAT POINT, YOU'RE ACCEPTING THE CHANGES. IF THE CHANGES HAVE A MATERIAL ADVERSE EFFECT ON YOU, HOWEVER, YOU CAN END THE AFFECTED SERVICE, WITHOUT ANY EARLY TERMINATION FEE, JUST BY CALLING US WITHIN 60 DAYS AFTER WE SEND NOTICE OF THE CHANGE." And underneath the paragraph Charges And Fees We Set in the Customer agreement says: "You agree to pay all access, usage and other charges and fees we bill you or that the user of your wireless phone accepted, even if you weren't the user of your wireless phone and didn't authorize its use. These include Federal Universal Service, Regulatory and Administrative Charges, and may also include other charges related to our governmental costs. We set these charges. They aren't taxes, aren't required by law, are kept by us in whole or in part, and the amounts and what's included are subject to change" I've called Verizon letting them know that the rate increase in their FUSC charge is having a material adverse affect on me and that I would like to cancel. They wouldn't allow me to cancel, saying that the FUSC charge is not enough "reason" to cancel to have the early termination fee waived. Are they not breaking contract? Is there something I'm missing? Who can I call to report this to?I've already called and have spoken to many of the service reps and supervisors about this and they say that the FUSC charge is warranted, even though it doesn't say that in the contract. more

Resolved Question: where is the Justice Department located in Washington D.C.?

PRESS RELEASE JOSEPH MICHAEL HOUSTOUN WILL BE: “Hitching-A-Right to Washington” TO HIS NATION’S CAPITOL THIS MEMORIAL DAY, WITH A CONSORTED FOCUS SEEKING NOTHING BUT JUSTICE FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMANT OF JUSTICE FOR THE PERSONAL VIOLATION AND DECIMATION OF MY ENTIRE LIFE, DUE TO THE: PRESIDENT BUSH TOP SECRET N.S.A. SPY PROGRAM My name is Joseph Houstoun, I, now, after much agonizing find it profoundly and urgently necessary, to go public with my true torture story that spans out over the past 4.5 years to present. A story unlike any other perhaps in our nation’s history, one of torture, abuse and one that has deprived me of every single “Right of Citizenship” afforded to me under Constitution of the United States of America. This incredible story starts after I personally and painstakingly found; The President Bush Top Secret N.S.A. SPY PROGRAM on my business/home computers. Sadly I had to discover this hidden cyber system, after my 8 years of archived professional and personal information was destroyed. That’s when they slowly started to decimate, torture and destroyed my entire professional, personal and family life. Today, I’m left with nothing, in a material or economic sense, owing thousands to those who faithfully assisted me through it all, and deprived of the ability to earn an income. To the point; From at what I first viewed as my Countries; National Security Agency calling on me to serve my much beloved country once again: To the realization now, that from day one in July of 2004 in it's totality, it was nothing short of what I think can only best be described as: “One Huge Deception of Patriotic Faith” all done with the intent to recruit me, I thought ever so incredibly proudly to become an N.S.A. Agent". Shortly there after, I was told as much I was not only dealing with the N.S.A. but as well the C.I.A. This was for certain an extremely well, Pre- Planned, Masterfully Crafted, long thought-out method to capture this patriot by hook-line and sinker into service. So as directed, through this incredibly deceptive recruitment approach, I and for such a long period of “blind faith time”, preformed thousands of task, after I accepted the role. It is of my opinion, that my personal government abuse story will very likely be, the missing voice/ link, that brings the rule of law and judicial accountability to the previous Administration's; D.O.J.’S, ill advised, extremely arrogant, lawless, unconstitutional and unbridled thugs. In conclusion, I am going to take this public one way or the other, and I am hereby offering to the media at large, the opportunity to break open a story that WILL dwarf the N.S.A. Illegal Wiretapping/ Spy Story, that I’m sure you know, exposed the unconstitutional and lawless Wire-tapping Program that President Bush ordered after 9-11. I will start my “Hitch-A-Right to Washington” Program to provide this unimaginable, American True Story personally to every single person I have the pleasure to meet along the way, towards the great State of Washington. I shall depart this small quiet lakeside town in the heart of the Great State of Florida, where I recently was forced to take refuge, after loosing it all, as an Innocent U.S.of A. Army, Veteran. If you would like to get in contact with me and get the STORY OF THE DECADE, simply look for the guy “thumbing-it” as I walk down Florida State, Hwy. 19 wearing all black clothing, with the colors of the U.S. Flag and or the neon colored sign attached to my suit case with the phrase clearly visible from a distance, that states: “NSA SPY VICTIM”. I will be starting my lengthy journey to D.C. with my final destination being the: The Very First Step of the United States Depart of Justice. Once there, I will “Bitch-A-Tent” and will not leave until; I receive “Good ‘Old American Justice” (get arrested :), by receiving my due compensation that, damn sure better be afforded unto myself, through My Constitutional Protection as Written, Signed and Rarely Amended. i.e. My Bill of Rights. My intent you ask? As to not let down: My Forefathers, All The Dead U.S. Service Veterans (especially their Heroic Families) and all the other Great American Men/Women, that possessed a clear conscious, especially those that God Blessed with the all illusive, Commonsense and Wisdom, to Washington D.C. on that “Day of Freedom for All”. Note: The Constitution I speak of just happens to be, the same one that my Greatest of Grandfathers, he was a Delegate to the Continental Congress for the State of Georgia from 1784 through 1786, and to the United States Constitutional Convention in 1787. Resolved Question: When should I ask this girl to be my girl friend?

I've meet a girl on a business trip about 9 months ago, sorry this may be long, I see her quite often as I go on business in her town quite often, she lives about 4 hours away. It took us until a little over a month ago to figure out we both liked each other. She says she likes me a lot and sees potential with us, and I feel the same about her. We've gone out a few times and hold hands, kiss, and have even cuddled. I believe she likes me, but at this point we still aren't boy friend and girl friend. I want to ask her to be my girl friend as I believe we can overcome the distance issue and I know she likes me why else would she hold my hand, kiss, cuddle, but at the same time I get a few mixed signals. Because of where she lives she has very poor cell service and its her only means of communication. I hardly get any messages from her or calls. She also told me a while ago, that she wanted to take things slow, but then I asked her the other day, what did she consider us as in a relationship and she said she didn't know right now, as she had not dated in a long time and then said to me, "What do you think?" I am going to see her next week and I was wondering if that would be too soon to ask her to be my girlfriend? more

Resolved Question: I'm being sued for slander...?

First off, I need to explain the story. I'm sixteen years old. My ex boyfriend's name is Justin. Only a few months ago we found out I was five months pregnant (late, I know). Well, my baby was born three weeks ago now, he was six weeks early and was born with hydranencephaly. Which is the most severe form of water on the brain- "all water, no brain." he's living off his brain stem right now. My boyfriend was living with his mother when we met and even before she met me she never liked me, but I always respected her no matter what she threw at me. Then, she found out I already had a child (yes, I have a one year old too) and told Justin to break it off with me. He said no and moved in with his dad so we could stay together. Things were fine, we didn't get to see each other often though because of the distance and his mother was still harassing me and our relationship. Eventually, when the time came and we found out I was pregnant, his dad was really cool with it up until my mom never found the time to call him back so they could sit down and talk. From that point on he cut of all contact between Justin and I, then tried to leave the state with him, so Justin moved back in with his mother. The most important thing you have to know about his mother is that she does nothing but lie... she's a very vindictive person and I'm angry that I hadn't seen it sooner. She said it was alright for us to stay together and raise the new baby. She made plans for us to go out and do shopping, then at the last minute she said it wasn't a good time. Now, this was only part of her plan to get Justin to come back home and get the hell away from me. Before Justin and I started dating I told him many times not to get involved with me because I already had one kid and I didn't want that to come down on him. Then, when I told him I was pregnant I asked him to leave me before things got worse, but he insisted we carried on. And now it's come down on me hard... So, my baby, Liam Carter, came and I called Justin the morning after to tell him the news. His mother answered the phone and said, "He's not here, I sent him out with his friends- like he should be doing. Whatever happens to you is none of his business." Now she's even gone as far as telling me and other people she hopes my son dies. She completely brainwashed Justin and now he's harassing me too. I expected it out of him anyway, that's why I told him to leave me alone beforehand. Justin has called me a few times since then claiming he has to play everything off to his mom like he doesn't care about us, but he does love us, and I don't know what to believe anymore. He also told me to set my myspace to private because his mom was snooping around on it and saving my stuff. All of the harassment she threw towards me just bottled up from there and I let it out after so long. I changed the about me section and called her a vindictive bitch, saying she controls people by making them feel bad about themselves. And it's true, I've seen it myself. I also said I wasn't afraid of her and she's not going to intimidate me. My friends who have heard Liam's story are very angry with Justin and his family. They think it's terrible of her to keep him away from his father when he's dying... so they posted comments on my profile saying whatever they wanted since they knew she was looking at my stuff anyway. So... this all came down to her suing me for slander and she contacted protective services to have my boys taken away from me. She never even took the time to get to know me to know how I parent my kids... Honestly, I'm a damn good parent for only being sixteen. I know I haven't been the smartest in the past, obviously. But that doesn't mean I don't love my babies and I'm taking responsibility for what I've done. I really need help. Can she really get me for slander for that being on my myspace? Like, it just doesn't get to me. It's myspace, if you're snooping, you're going to see a lot of things you don't like. By the way, I never used her name or anyone else in particular, so I could have been talking about anyone. I contacted my mom's probation officer and she's looking more into it. So far she said they really can't get me for anything because I never used a name. more

Resolved Question: Research the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and then discuss whether this situation would be a violation?

See the Multimedia activity on Ethics in International Business. Then read the case study about Geletx and Jed’s concerns about the office in Lima, Peru. Research the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and then discuss whether this situation would be a violation of FCPA. What do you think that Jed should do? In the Lima, Peru, office, Jed, in reviewing financial records, discovered that the commissions expense for the branch is unusually high.  Geletex pays its salespeople commissions for each commercial customer they recruit for cellular or long-distance services.  Jed knows from experience that some companies pay unusually high sales commissions to disguise the fact that salespeople are paying kickbacks in exchange for contracts.  In the United States, such payments would be commercial bribery and a violation of Geletex’s code of ethics.  When Jed confronted the Lima, Peru, district manager and questioned him about the high commissions, he responded, “Look, things are different down here.  We’ve got a job to do.  If the company wants results, we’ve got to get things moving any way we can.” Does this office violate the FCPA?  Support your answer. more

I've tried calling calling the phone at the nurse station, but it never rang. When my mother gets online from California (they have only dial internet access in her town), I ask her if the phone rang and she said no. Am I doing something wrong or is this service just crap. It's prepaid, and according to the customer guidelines, there's no refunds. It cost me $13, 26% of my income for a month. I live in a nursing home so I cannot afford a phone and they only provide one phone for all the residents to use, at the nurse's station. No privacy and 3 minute limit. Plus no long distance calls, which can be fun if you local friend has an out of town cell phone number. We are only allowed to spend $50 on personal things, which includes clothing, every time they lose something in the laundry, sodas or snacks. Outside the meals, we only get water. Anything else we have to buy from their vending machines. To get on the internet, I'm piggy backing off a WiFi signal from a nearby business. more

Resolved Question: Can you use your VOIP service remotely from outside landline?

I have a small business and my field workers sometimes need to make long distance calls within the US. We have broadband connection with 2 VOIP companies, Vonage and OptimumVoice. Both of these carriers already offer us unlimited long distance within the US. For my field workers some locations they visit dont have either phones or don't have long distance service. Im asking if there is a way they can remotely connect to our office broadband VOIPs service and use the long distance service from there? Almost like a calling card system but its running off our current broadband VOIP services. Is this possible?? more

Resolved Question: Would you work it out or move on?

I am a changed woman ever since my husband's affair came to light. I am much less empathetic than before. We actually filed the paperwork but still have time to withdraw. The option of working it out did not even come across my mind because of the he** he has put our family through. Now, here is an even tougher situation. Since he and I live thousands of miles away from each other, we have no choice but to speak on the phone about anything and everything. Well, last night we actually discussed what we should have done, etc until the topic of possibly reconciling came up. Here's something that I could not bend on- I told him that if he wanted to prove that his family meant more to him than anything, he would not re-enlist in the military and that he would move to where we are and go through A LOT of counseling, together and apart. Don't get me wrong. I love the military- I'm also prior service which means I know firsthand the toll distance takes on families. Because our family has been broken, it has been up to me to piece it back together again. So this is what I said- he is young enough to start over, use his GI Bill and get a degree while doing whatever it takes to make things right. If he cannot do it, then we can move on. If he actually takes this step, I will know that he means business. His mom called me tonight and I told her what I said about getting out of the military. She seemed like she wanted him to stay in which is a complete 180 from what she has always wanted in the past. She said men will do what they want wherever they are and his getting out is not a guarantee he will not cheat again. I said that it is not about whether or not he will cheat again- it is more about stability and support. He wants more kids but barely helps with our 2 yr old son. Long story short- what would you do? If you believed deep down that he was a good man who made a mistake, would you give him a second chance- for the sake of our child? We didn't fight often- he was just gone so much that we stopped talking. He started crying at the end of last night's conversation but I still remain cold because of the lies and cheating. I do know I still love him. What would you do? We've been together for 6 years so it is not just as simple as for the sake of our child although it seems to be the top priority. Also, we just recently moved away- literally 2 weeks from today we moved from Hawaii to stateside. I haven't been home to see my family in over 2 yrs and I knew I could not go through this alone. The network of friends we had were also his fellow servicemembers which was awkward so I just faded into the background. Moving back was tough but much needed. My job transferred me so I had a job waiting when I arrived. As far as the crying is concerned, he cried only a few times since we've been married and since everything came out, he has cried numerous times regarding our son. This was the first time I know of that his tears were related to me. He is going to parenting classes and anger management as ordered. Hopefully it will help more. Thank you all for the wonderful answers!! It really does help. more

Resolved Question: What is the best business calling plan out there besides ATT. Is Voip better? Is vonage a good service to have?

I am trying to choose a better business calling plan because ATT is to expensive. Is Vonage ok? I would need a plan with two lines and a fax line. I dont make a lot of long distance calls. I would need to have it advertised.  more

Voting Question: Does it seems like a jerk if I borrowed someone I only knew as my ex-girlfriend classmate during college?

Someone my ex-girlfriend's classmate during her college asking me to borrow her money after giving me favor for sending cakes and flowers to her just to make things right for my ex. Favor for cake ordering is her business and flowers is an added service; I am giving her a generous margin second times. The only thing that made worst and upside down is my ex-girlfriend condemning me getting her number to the same source of cake and pointing another person who's not involved because she don't want to be blame. I only asked the new number just to say personal all my thoughts in fact that she changed number not to contact her again. Well that's fine, if my ex wanted me to stop my pursuing, then she should say something nice and go. Though she only just receiving my good thoughts through flower, cakes, she should not have said some careless pathetic to stop thinking about her and calling me jerk in the tone of her last message. I did said last statement of good wishes on her real decision, and I'm happy on her decision for another person but in return reply was a nasty that goes well enough said. "Well, well, well, if you even thought that I am grateful to all your stuff just to think of me, wake up I’m not being happy in fact I am irritated so much… I am most annoyed. Still you don’t get it, please let me go. I knew where you got number so stop pointing others. It is cyclical; quit hoping whatever hope you have on me, even friendship... I’m fed up on you... Still you don’t get it." I never said anything I deserved this. She should appreciate being me thoughtful. All I'm asking is friendship and not forcing her to relationship. ** we have only long distance relationship, we never acquainted until we reached 27 years of age. We are batch in high school in same school. She's kind of shy type. but now changed. Plus fact... That I'm working 3 years in abroad. Now that I stop communicating with my ex and still I have her classmate communicating on me, I just have a feeling that she will screw me because she cares only for the benefits of my friendship. She is asking me to borrow her money, though I don't know her. If I borrowed her, my question is what she will think of me is the same I’m a jerk on my ex? She has reason but I don't want to trust her. Maybe she is testing my water. My ex-girlfriend's friend wants to borrow me a money after failed bid to impress my ex-girlfriend for the thoughts of sending cakes and flowers. Before she brokered 2 attempts to send cakes and flowers in exchange for my generous tips and payment. My other classmate told me not to send cake because of my status is negative but I insist to go ahead for ethical reason because I already made a compromise deal. Now that my bid on my ex gf lost and her classmate business on me is lost also, should I treat this person to lend the money she needs because I don't have any idea that she can be able to pay because I'm working abroad. I remember the case my ex asking me money before we were in a relationship but it sounded it has a striking correlation to it. Something like she's testing my water. Am I a jerk if gave in or what should I do to get over? more

Resolved Question: Scrap the cell phone/landline?

This is something I've been considering. (I'm a university student, so naturally I'm broke.) This summer I will be moving out of this place and in the new places I'm considering, there is no phone service included (free), so I will have to either just use my cell phone only or buy landline service. So I have 2 questions. (1) What is a good (cheap) landline service in Toronto? Is Rogers or Bell better? (2) Do I even need a landline? I guess you might need to know about my phone habits... Unlike most people my age, I'm not a big phone person. I don't really text either. In fact the only reason I have a cell phone is if I'm meeting someone and we can't find each other, or if there is an emergency. I wait until I'm home to make all other calls, including calls to businesses, planning things with friends, calling the family, etc. I have a prepaid cell phone right now and I call about 50 minutes a month (if that) including outgoing/incoming. I would say 90% of the minutes are from incoming calls that could be avoided if I didn't have an extension as I do on my current landline (but I won't have an extension at the new places). A lot of businesses don't let me enter an extension so I have to give them my cell phone number. I don't use a lot of long distance at all. I have a calling card and I can use that from a payphone if I have to call long distance outside, and if I'm home, I just do computer-to-computer calling. Honestly, I don't think I even need a cell phone. The only reason I have it, again, is in case of emergency. I'm aware that I can call 911 without having a plan on my cell, but if someone else is calling to warn me about something urgent (but not quite an emergency), I want to know about it. So the cell phone is really not used all that often, but it is very useful when it is used, if you get what I mean. So, after all that... do you think I should have a landline, a cell phone, or both?In total, I probably use about 30 unavoidable minutes per month on the cell phone. I probably use about 200 minutes/month on the landline. more

Resolved Question: Y&R ~*SPOILER*~ (star this if you love it) ?

Vic's given his new head of security guy a list of people who live on the grounds - they can come and go as they please - but no one's to come near the main house. The guy promises 'expert service'. Vic claims someone broke in last night and he never wants it to happen again. Nikki arrives at the Hellstrum's complaining about the guards at the gate giving her a hard time - having just moved out, she's there to visit (and pleased to hear Neil hired Vikki - at Vic's request). Nikki mentions Victor calling the police on her last night. Back to the job - Vikki doesn't want Nick to feel she's taking something that's rightfully his too. Kissing him good morning, Phyllis won't bother to ask how Nick slept - but points out that they can use the seed money to create their own business - we're getting the better end of the deal - no more fighting - no more Sharon standing behind Jack when she knows he's doing the wrong thing. Nick's quick to defend Sharon - she's caught in the middle. Meanwhile, at RS, a confident Jack rambles on about having to find new space - sure Nick will yank the lease. When Sharon suggests he might buy them out, Jack thinks he'd be a real sap to do so (and it's not like Victor won't help after announcing to the world he's cut his family out with a rusty knife). When Sharon flashes back to asking Vic to rehire Nick, Jack snaps his fingers - where'd you go? Sharon asks Jack not to gloat when Nick sells his half - it's going to be a hard day for him. Back at the tackhouse, Phyllis can't believe Nick's defending his ex wife - once again - all she does is smile and offer tea, she scoffs. Nick thinks Sharon could be tearing Jack a new one in private - who knows what goes on behind closed doors - this is Jack's fault - not Sharon's. Interrupting the Newman's 'talking', Mike makes a 10 second appearance to deliver an envelope - from Victor. Outside the ranch, Mike grumbles about going through Checkpoint Charlie to visit his client - then once passed the security guy, asks Vic about the whole 'Fort Knox ambience'. Vic appoints Mike his confidante - if his children want to speak to him, they do so through Mike (except JR - that boy's 'persona non grata'). In bed, a scantily clad Heather works out the knots in JR's back (as he wonders what to put on his resume - am I over qualified for Mar's Cheese Castle? They're hiring. I got downsized by my own father). Offers a pep talk and a kiss, Heather's mildly annoyed when JR suggests he just pack his things and leave. Pouting, Heather thought they were staying together. Alas, JR knows he'll be happier back East. Fine, Heather says - but don't expect a long distance relationship. Back at the Hellstrum's, Nikki lists off the reasons Vikki should take the job at NE (but is proud of her sensitivity towards her brother). Vikki knows she can do a spectacular job - but doesn't want Nick to feel left out. Nikki has a suggestion.... Nick and Phyllis contemplate the envelope - is it ticking? Maybe it's a restraining order - only one way to find out. Vikki calls for Nick (who's opened the envelope and passes the contents to Phyllis as he takes the phone). When Vikki updates Nick on her job offer at NE, he encourages her to take it. You're the best brother in the whole world, she beams. Reading the letter, Phyllis' eyes widen - what does this mean? Putting on her robe, Heather doesn't think she misunderstood - what WERE you suggesting? She can't go with JR - you keep forgetting I have a job - and can't hop on plane's every weekend to visit you. JR has only one reason to stay in GC - her. She suggests he try Vic once more - what do you have to lose? Vic tells Mike he has no obligation to Adam Wilson - after what he pulled. They'll have little contact - if Vic needs him, he'll be in touch. No - he's not going anywhere - just wants to be alone - show yourself out. When Sharon again asks Jack not to gloat, he claims to care a great deal about Nick - always will. Nick arrives sounding 'chipper'. He's not there to sell out - you may want to count the zero's on the check he hands over. Needless to say, the Abbott's are stunned. No, the check won't bounce 'like a fat man on a trampoline'. Nick hands over the letter - a guaranteed line of credit that will cover any check he writes. From Daddy Victor - how sweet, Jack growls. Congratulations - you beat me. Nick claims he's just as surprised - as he never spoke to his father. Someone went to bat for you, Jack believes. Don't look at me, Phyllis chimes in. Jack turns to look at Sharon (who mumbles that Victor has a way of knowing what's going on). generously gives Jack time to get out, then updates Noah (who's reaction is a high five - sweet!). After the Newman's leave, Noah questions Jack - I thought you liked working here. Jack whines that his grandfather didn't give him much choice (then leaves Sharon to explain grandpa helped Nick get the better of Jack). Noah mentions Response 2 SagSoulStar, That's cool that you took the star back - No biggie .... But ummm yes my spoilers are the entire show. Sorry that it is too much for you .... But I love it. And so do a lot of others. I always label these as spoilers that way no one can say anything about it ...... So maybe next time you see my head line" Y&R ~*SPOILER*~ " You wont open it - Because my spoilers will most of the time be the whole show. Sorry that you feel I wasted 5 points to inform the YA community with a fabulous spoiler. - To the rest of you: I will KEEP THEM COMING more

Resolved Question: How to cope with my current situation?

I'm a long distance relationship. She's 16 and I'm 17. She lives so so very far away from me, but our love is strong and true. That's one of the advantages of being in and LDR, your love and everything that comes with it is a lot stronger than a regular same place relationship. My girlfriend turned her parents in for abuse because I advised her to. Her mom abuses her physically and mentally/emotionally. Her dad abused her sexually from a very young age until she was 14. Her mom knew about it and knew it was true but never told the authorities. I didn't want to see her in that kind of household anymore, so I advised her to turn her parents in. She did just that. She is now in a children's center and I feel so useless. She called me from her cell phone crying and saying how she couldn’t take it anymore. I tried to comfort her but her phone ran out of minutes, it being prepaid. She has no more money to buy load for her phone. I was going to send her my debit card in case she needed to buy more load or anything else she needs, but I have no idea how I would do that. I have no idea where she is, or the number the place where she is. No contact with her whatsoever. She sent me one last text saying child services is going to take her cell phone away because they said she is not allowed to use it. Now I can’t even comfort her, can’t even talk to her. I recently told my mom of my girlfriend’s situation and she has agreed to help her. She is willing to take her and her sister in as her foster kids. My mom is a business woman that deals with social workers all the time so she knows how these things work. My girlfriend has told her social workers of this and has told them to call my mom since my mom is the only adult that my girlfriend is seeking support from. So my is mom was supposed to talk to my girlfriend’s social workers and discuss the matters with them, but they never called my mom. My mom is really nice and because of this I realize how much I have taken her for granted. I feel so stupid and useless. I told her I would do everything I can for her, but there isn’t anything I can do. I went to the child services here but they were no help whatsoever. They said they can’t help me and I they couldn’t even answer my questions. I can’t stop crying and worrying about her. I haven’t had any sleep in two day because I would stay up all night and worry about her. I would try to sleep (like now) but can’t. Today I even started coughing up blood, and passed out for a few minutes. I haven’t been eating well either, just a nibble of food here and there. Like the sleep, I just can’t eat. I even have to force myself to eat those little nibbles just so I won’t starve myself to death There isn’t even anymore communication between us. Now I have no idea where, hot to get a hold of her, or she is or how she’s doing. I’m so worried about her. I feel so useless as her boyfriend that I can’t even call to comfort her. I can’t help thinking that this is all my fault. I was the one that advised her to turn her parents in. Now I think I made the situation worse. I told her to try and get a restraining order on her parents. After being with her mom and dad and getting to know them on one my visits I really believe that they would kill her because of this. Her mom even threatened to kill her while I was right there listening, but now she is trying to be nice and sweet talk her daughter out of this. Judging by the last conversation we have that she might cave into her fake sweet talk. I just hope that she doesn’t back out of this, because then child services would consider her a liar and discredit everything she says for now now. Then she would probably be put back with her parents and god knows what they will do to her. Then she would not be taken seriously by child services if she reports again. I need to talk to her, tell her to be strong, go one with it. That it’s very important that she not give up and go through with it!! I need to comfort her but I have no way to do that… I’m so useless. I only get to see her about once a year, until I turned 18 then I would move to where she is. Last month was the last time I got to see her in person which was when I also advised her to do this. I told her that no matter what happens I will forever love her. It’s our promise to each other: Always and forever, never letting go of one another, to death and BEYOND. I told her that even if we get our communication cut because of this, that it’s ok. We will continue to love each other, and that our love will never be broken. Our hearts would find each other again. Since up to now I have talked to her for hours EVERY day, that I realizes that saying that is so much easier said than done. I don’t know what to do… I’m so lost… I need help… all I want to be able to help her trough this, to comfort and motivate her since she really needs it, but I can’t do any of those things. How would you guys handle my situation? Thanks for reading through all of that, I just wrote so much to relieve some stress.FYI to rockchick: We did think of all that. Every thing you mentioned. We knew she was going to be taken away, we knew the consequences. What we didn't plan on was Child Services taking her phone away. We knew she would burn down the bridge to her family. We couldn't offer her shelter at our house we live so far, she would have to stow away on a really long plane ride to get here. Then my mom would just get into trouble for helping a runaway. Trust me we though this over very carefully. Went over the pros and cons thousands of times. Thought over all the scenarios that could happen. We never expected child services to cut our communication. more

Resolved Question: Can I keep my business phone number and have it forwarded to my cell and drop the high monthly fees?

I currently have VOIP service but I'm droping my cable internet at my shop for a mobile air card. I'm not at my shop much and I could use my internet service on the road more than in the shop. The downside is that my VOIP service provides my voice and fax line. Without the internet the VOIP won't work. I plan on switching to a internet fax-to-e-mail service but I don't see the need in paying $29.99 for the VOIP service just to have my calls forwarded to my cell phone. Is there any way to pay a company to instantly forward my calls to my cellphone for around $10 since I won't be using them for long distance or any outgoing calls? The local phone company isnt very friendly with business numbers. I could get a basic residential line and have it forwarded for $9.99 but the business number that I have has a minimum charge of $54.99 w/ Bellsouth. more

With all the hatred being thrown at the (insert scary music here) Big Oil Companies, and Congressional hearings an almost certainty... the thought of attacking big profits comes to mind. Resolved Question: Does he like me?

I met a guy for 2 times only in a business deal for communications services. He's GI and In the 2 meetings I like him a lot and he flirted with me, laughing at things I said that I think he considered funny, stared at me, eye contact, whatever. Unfortunalety he left to his state short after so I could see him again. Turned out I decided to emailed him to say Hi and see if he could remembered me, and he did. So we started keeping in touch, a year and a half now. We are friends since Long distance can be a tough, but I like him. I was the one emailing him and he replying right away. I thought he was being nice and polite so I thanked him for that and He had said he enjoys our friendship and communications. He's deployed somewhere in here the US, when he arrived to his current location he emailed me 2 weeks ago asking me how am I doing. Do you think he might like me a little more than he says? Can this actually develop? more

Resolved Question: Why are cable companies so greedy?

I currently have a bundled service with Charter Communication, but my promotion is going to end on June 1st and I am requesting for a deal but they won't budge. I currently pay $62 before tax for Expanded Basic Cable, 5 Mbps Internet, and domestic long distance phone, which i think is a great deal and am willing to stay with them and I am even willing to pay a little more, but when I called back and asked they wanted $58 just for cable tv service alone and I was like F**K YOU. Shouldn't they try to keep customers and make some money instead of having the person take their business to the competition. I can get Dish Network HDTV for $29.99 with a 24 month contract but I would rather stay and get digital for $29.99 because I am a loyal customer but I guess my business means nothing to them. Charter seriously needs a better retention department, more

Resolved Question: How can I get my caller ID to show up when using a prepaid phone card?

I use a phone service called OneSuite where I use a PIN with the company to make long distance and international calls. When I call someone, they look at the caller ID and say "What are you doing in California?" I'm not. I live in Louisiana. OneSuite is obviously routing my calls through Calif. Unlike many other people, I actually WANT my caller id to show up on the phone of the person I'm calling, especially when I'm making a business call. I called OneSuite and they told me I can't get my own number to show up when using their service. Does anyone know of a prepaid long-distance company where I CAN get my caller ID to show up? more

Resolved Question: Jokies fot you all!!!!!?

Personally I don’t care for telemarketers, in fact I really don’t care for them. They call at the most inoppertune times - when you’re eating, sleeping, relaxing, or just sitting around doing nothing (yea even then it’s annoying). In the even you have alittle time on your hands and want to really ensure they don’t call back (let’s face it, the National Do Not Call List only goes so far)… here is the F&J top 10 list for getting rid of a telemarketer… Say, “No,” over and over. Be sure to vary the sound of each no, and keep an even tempo even as they’re trying to speak. Maybe sing a song with all “No’s” This is the most fun if you can keep going until they hang up. If they want to loan you money, tell them you just filed for bankruptcy and you could it. Ask, “How long can I keep it? Do I have to ever pay it back, or is it like that other money I borrowed before my bankruptcy?” If they start out with, “How are you today?” say, “Why do you want to know?” Or you can say, “I’m so glad you asked, because no one seems to care these days and I have all these problems, my colon is acting up again, my rectum are sore, my pet rock just died…” When they try to get back to the sales process, just keep talking about your problems… if they persist - ask them why they don’t care. If the person says he’s Joe Shmoe from the Acme Company, ask him to spell his name, then ask him to spell the company name, then ask for his address. Ask for landmarks. Continue asking questions about the company for as long as necessary. This one works better if you are male: Telemarketer: “Hi, my name is Jessica and I’m with Roger Dodd Services…. You: “Hang on a second.” (few seconds pause) “Okay, (in a really husky voice) what are you wearing?” If you get one of those pushy sales people who just won’t shut up, patiently listen to their sales pitch. When they try to close the deal, tell them that you’ll need to go get your credit card. Then, just set the phone down and go do laundry, go shopping or whatever. See how long that commission based scum waits for you to get your credit card. If a long distance phone company calls trying to get you to sign up for their Family and Friends plan, reply, in as sinister a voice as you can, “I don’t have any friends… would you be my friend?” If that doesn’t work, say “Please.” Tell them you work for the same company they work for. For example: Telemarketer: “This is John From Acme Sales.” You: “Acme Sales, hey I work for them too! Which center are you calling from?” Telemarketer: “Uh, Dallas, Texas.” You: “Great, how’s business over there? The weather? Too bad the company has a policy against selling to employees! Oh well, see ya.” Let the person go through their spiel, providing minimal but necessary feedback in the form of an occasional “Uh-huh, really, or, “That’s fascinating.” Finally, when they ask you to buy, ask them to marry you. They get all flustered, but just tell them you couldn’t give your credit card number to someone who’s a complete stranger. You might even find your soulmate. Tell the telemarketer (this is my personal favorite) you are busy and if they will give you their phone number you will call them back. If they say they are not allowed to give out their number, then ask them for their home number and tell them you will call them at home (this is usually the most effective method of getting rid of telemarketers). If the sales person says, “Well, I don’t really want to get a call at home,” say, “Ya! Now you know how I feel.” (smiling, of course…) more

Resolved Question: networking question?

Case Study: DMS Associates DMS Associates is a consulting firm located in Eastern City. Fifty people work in its home office in two buildings in a business complex. An additional 25 employee’s work from remote locations. DMS Associates is adding another 25 employees by opening a third location, Building C, elsewhere in Eastern City. Building C was purchased with its existing technology infrastructure intact. DMS Associates has asked you to evaluate and analyze the company's existing technology infrastructure and security for its network as reported below and to recommend a best practices approach to integrating the data communication, computer networks, and telephone systems of the three locations with a focus on security that is seamless. The goal is to create a company-wide technology infrastructure which supports seemingly seamless connectivity and data flow. Building A Staff: 25 employees. The IT operation is housed here. Networking: Three departmental LANs: Business and Finance Office, Staff Consultants, and Administration. These LANs all run Windows 2000 Advanced Server. 25 Remote workers have dial-in access to the network through a modem pool. E-mail service runs on an Microsoft Exchange Server using Outlook as the client software. Phone Service: The local and long distance phone service from Local Telephone Company through a leased PBX. Phone services include Voice Mail, Call Waiting, Call Forwarding. Internet Access and Usage: All offices in Building A have Internet Access through the network via a T-1 line to the company's ISP, Sharethenet.com. Software Applications: All employees are provided with Microsoft Office Professional suite of applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access. The Company's financial systems run on Great Plains Accounting Software. Great Plains is used for personnel information, payroll, inventory, accounts payable, accounts receivable, quarterly and annual reports, and tax documentation. Building B Staff: 25 employees; 20 are staff consultants, the other five include a branch manager, receptionist, custodians, and an IT support person. Networking: The network consists of a single LAN running under Windows 2000 Server. E-mail Service is via a POP3 client through Internet to Building A's Exchange e-mail server. Phone Service: The local and long distance phone service from Local Telephone Company through a leased PBX. Phone services include Voice Mail, Call Waiting, Call Forwarding. This service is not connected directly to the Building A system. Internet Access and Usage: All offices in Building B share Internet Access through the network via the company's ISP, Sharethenet.com. Software Applications: All employees are provided with Microsoft Office Professional suite of applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access. This location is unable to access the Great Plains financial software directly, and uses FTP to upload data weekly from an Access database. Building C Building C is located in a different section of Eastern City. Staff: Twenty-five people will work in this building. It is anticipated that staff composition will be the same as in Building B: 20 staff consultants, a branch manager, receptionist, custodians, and an IT support person. Networking: Two independent local area networks exist. Novel NetWare was used as the network operating system. Phone Service: The previous company had local phone service is provided by Local Phone Company, and long distance phone service are provided by a Sprint reseller. Internet Access and Usage: The previous company had 5 have dial-up Internet access accounts for company business use through AOL. Software Applications: Existing computers are provided with Microsoft Office Professional suite of applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access. The previous company used Excel for accounting purposes, and Access for Inventory, Job tracking, customer records, etc. Payroll services were subcontracted to ADP. Weekly batch uploads of employee data from Excel were made to ADP. In Your Paper: In your Final Project Paper use the information presented below to develop and describe a data communications and computer networking plan to meet these criteria: 1.The three local area networks in building A are to be interconnected. 2.The networks in buildings A & B, which are close together, are to be interconnected. 3.The new building, building C, is to be inter-networked with the other locations using its existing technology infrastructure wherever possible, though some changes may be made if absolutely required for smooth integration. 4.Employees in all locations are to have access to the Internet through dedicated T-1 lines to a single ISP. 5.Telephone service for the three buildings is to function as a single system so that any phone in any building may reach any other phone using only the extension. 6.All employees are to have voice mail. 7.All employees are to have e-mail through the exchange server in building A including the remote workers. 8.In writing your paper describe the choices you would make in terms of the type of network, the connecting medium, the data communication model being followed. 9.Explain why your choices reflect today's best practices in data and voice communication. Be specific in your reasons, including the characteristics of each choice and explaining why they are appropriate for each task. 10.Diagram the data flow for each task using the drawing tools in Microsoft Word. more

Resolved Question: I can't find an address to write a complaint to AT&T?

I have a complaint with AT&T that still hasnt been resolved after 7 mos of calling EVERY SINGLE month to fix. The problem is they've somehow attached a business long distance contract to my bill (someone else's, it clearly lists a different phone number for the calls and the contract start date is before I even moved in to my house) and everytime I call, I'm on hold for over an hour, have to explain the prob to the agent while he/she speaks to me like I'm stupid, asking q's like "are you sure you don't have a business in your home?" and "Are you sure you did'nt make those calls?" To TEXAS, NY, and ALABAMA?? NO, i don't even know anyone in those states!! Anyways, sorry about the rant, but the thing is that I like the rates for phone&internet, so I want to keep my service, just want to get rid of this crazy bus contract thing. Their site doesn't have an address to write to, I'm sick of calling, if I email, they just call me back, so i wrote a ltr but dont know where to send it.Does anyone know where i can find an address or know of other options? Thank you! more

Resolved Question: Christmas gift needed for my personal assistant. Do you religious people have any suggestions?

He is a long time employee of my family and for that we are moderately grateful to his service. Please, let me mention that although I have been in the presence of this man since childhood, he is not a friend. You don't make friends with employees. He is also NOT a colleague. That term is designated for those whom you share decisions with. He will NOT share in any decision making process involving either myself or my family business. I prefer to keep a distance from our employees, so therefore I'm not even sure if he is married or single. He lives at our New York estate during the week, but his weekends are not only free time for him, but time I personally don't contemplate concerning his life. Any suggestions for the appropriate gift for this devoted employee? more

Resolved Question: Is this a normal change in a relationship, long-distance or otherwise?

My long distance boyfriend works with a pest control service that is family-owned. This involves a lot of traveling around, spraying, walking, climbing, crawling, and just all around physical job. Since it is a family business and his job is on salary, he will often work 12 or more hour days. I know he is tired, but he is also getting a little older. If he has a really busy day he will go to bed at 830 and wont call. But sometimes he won't go to bed until late and still won't call... and he picks up the phone sometimes when I do. I'm just wondering if its normal for a 29 year old man to start going to bed earlier, and if its reasonable to expect that we talk on the phone every or most nights(since it is long distance). He does, however, call me often throughout the workday and for 20 or 30 minutes at a time every so often. Can't do it all the time. But should I feel bad that most of his talk time is when hes at work (and is forced to be awake, etc)?He seems to think if he gets the time in earlier it doesnt matter. I'm not saying we never talk in the evenings, but that we don't as much as the first 6 or 7 months of the relationship when we talked almost every night. We have known each other a long time so is this just a natural progression? more
