McGuinty attacking on five fronts
In a luncheon address to the London Chamber of Commerce, McGuinty reassured the business community his government's five-point plan will help stem the tide of job losses, but it can't control the value of the Canadian dollar, price of oil and the U.S. economy, all of which have combined to hammer the manufacturing sector here.
"If I could wave a magic wand and reassure everyone in Ontario they would not lose their job, I would have done it by now," McGuinty said. "We will work as hard as we can to turn this around as quickly as we can."
Last week, Sterling truck in St. Thomas announced it will slash 720 jobs, joining 600 on layoff at the plant. That's the latest in what has been an ongoing saga of layoffs and plant closings in the area.
In the last year about 1,000 manufacturing jobs have been lost in the London region and 8,000 manufacturing jobs have been cut over five years, helping fuel the city's unemployment rate of 7.4 per cent. more

Donald R. Keough presents the opposite in The Ten Commandments for Business Failure (www.penguinclassics.com). Drawing on his more than sixty years of experience, much of which was as the chief of Coca-Cola, the author sombrely observes that businesses fail because of the leaders. Companies are artificial constructs, and are the product and extension of the personal characteristics of the leaders, he reasons. The first commandment in his cautionary tale is, Quit taking risks. As our lives get softer and richer and more comfortable, the temptation to quit taking risks is so great, Keough warns. Its one of the major diseases of success. Its easy to succumb, particularly as you get older. The second recipe for disaster is to be inflexible. Such people are so set in their ways, so sure that they have the formula for success that they simply cannot see any other way of doing things, the author explains. more

Resolved Question: Is it Legal for Asus to Refuse to Sell Replacement Parts?
I have 3 Asus Eee PC netbooks and discovered Asus will not sell replacement parts for their products. If I want a $5 part I can easily install myself, I must send the unit in to Asus prepaid, wait for service to evaluate the cost, get my authorization and payment, then it is 7 to 10 business days for the repair and 5 business days for return shipping. They will not offer any clue of how much anything could cost. They will not install anything optional, like a $15 Bluetooth module, more RAM or a bigger hard drive. I could wait over 3 weeks and pay well over 100 dollars to install a $5 part from Asus USA. I found everything I could ever want from www.asusparts.eu in Europe and I may be forced to pay $30 shipping for the $5 Bluetooth cable I want. I can't remember being refused to purchase replacement parts for a current model of anything major. Can a manufacturer legally refuse to offer replacement parts? moreResolved Question: Do some people really prepare a "left behind package" with post-rapture instructions?
If you do have one, what's in yours? If you do not, how likely would you be to purchase one prepared for you by people experienced in estate management, pet and dependent care issues and other personal and business legal issues with the understanding that it would be prepaid (like, now) and personally administered by professionals who are guaranteed not to rapture? What exact services would you expect for a "full" package and what would be the bare minimum for those who cannot afford or have no need of the full package and opt instead for an economy pack? Just curious, of course. moreVoting Question: Incompleted Prepaid Service Small Claim Legal Advise?

After visiting 7 more times, now she says she will no longer honor it. I do have remaining 14 visits which is worth $1200... Can I file a small claim for this? i responded to this number on craigs list and ithey person gave me this website to visit. onegoodoption.com. so i visited it and after i finished watching the video i gave the number a call and apparently im already going to start working. all i have to do is make a low one-time investment of $49.95 so they can send me my DVDs, information, cards, and help me start up my website. I ordered a book from an Amazon used book seller. It was not in the described condition. I e-mailed the seller for a refund and they replied: “Please pop it into the post in the original packing, marked return to sender, and we’ll make a full refund on receipt.” My question is: is return to sender valid if the parcel has been opened? Perhaps the seller has prepaid for this service? It is a business postage label, white in colour with the numbers “CW25963” and “postage paid GB”. Bare in mind I live in the U.K. and it is a British book seller. Obviously I could re-seal the envelope but my question is: is that legal? Thanks! moreResolved Question: Is it worth paying for advertising ?

My best friend is attempting to break into this business and become a sales associate. I need to know whether he's getting into a scam or something that is truly legit. He's been to all of the meetings they've had the past three months or so and he still hasn't made any money. I went to one of the meetings where a man that supposedly is a millionaire with the company with 3,000 people working under him spoke on how to sell the service and I'm still unsure about it. Everyone there was hyping the service up of course, talking about how it's a no-brainer to get involved with it. Has anyone had experience selling PPL with success or have actually used the service? What are you people's thoughts? Thanks. moreResolved Question: What is the best way to market my prepaid legal business?
