Business Focus: ONE ON ONE: Citibank employs wholesale banking

In 1993, Citibank Egypt was granted a license to operate in local currency, and quickly developed its corporate and investment banking business locally.

In the late 90s, Citibank launched its consumer banking business in Egypt by introducing unsecured credit card to the market. Khairat, a 10-year Citi veteran, joined the consumer bank upon its creation in 1998, starting off in credit operations.

Khairat initially focused on personal loans before becoming a product manager in 2000 to concentrate Citi's growing auto loans business. Today, running the retail bank, Khairat works with consumer banking at all levels and runs Citi's marketing program.

Central to the Citibank brand, he said repeatedly, is its leadership in the industry. As a pioneer of foreign consumer banks in the country, Khairat discussed how other banks took a wait-and-see attitude on Citi's Egyptian venture. more

Oso Biopharmaceuticals Announces Acquisition of Albuquerque Injectables Business from Catalent

Oso Biopharmaceuticals Manufacturing, LLC ("Oso Biopharmaceuticals") and Catalent Pharma Solutions today jointly announced the completion of the purchase of Catalent's Albuquerque, New Mexico sterile injectables manufacturing business. Terms of the transaction, which became effective May 17, were not disclosed.

The Albuquerque business provides cGMP glass vial filling and lyophilization services for injectable drugs and biologics that are either approved for commercial marketing or in clinical development. Oso Biopharmaceuticals will retain all employees associated with the business and continue to serve all existing customers in North America and Europe.

Dassault has new business jet coming in 2010

Dassault said Monday a more efficient version of its Falcon business jet will be ready for delivery starting in mid-2010.

The 900LX will use winglets to help extend its range to 4,800 nautical miles, Dassault Falcon, a subsidiary of France's Dassault Aviation, said in a statement at the opening of Europe's main corporate aircraft show in Geneva.

The new, three-engine plane will be able to fly from New York to Moscow, or from Paris to Beijing without adding fuel, the company said. It be about 25 feet by 66 feet and can fit eight passengers and two crew.

The plane will replace the existing 900EX on the production line.

"Our customers have been telling us that efficiency is becoming a bigger part of the decision-making process when acquiring a business jet," said John Rosanvallon, who heads the division. more
