Why Old Technologies Are Still Kicking
The mainframe stands as a telling case in the larger story of survivor technologies and markets. The demise of the old technology is confidently predicted, and indeed it may lose ground to the insurgent, as mainframes did to the personal computer. But the old technology or business often finds a sustainable, profitable life. Television, for example, was supposed to kill radio, and movies, for that matter. Cars, trucks and planes spelled the death of railways. A current death-knell forecast is that the Web will kill print media.
What are the common traits of survivor technologies? First, it seems, there is a core technology requirement: there must be some enduring advantage in the old technology that is not entirely supplanted by the new. But beyond that, it is the business decisions that matter most: investing to retool the traditional technology, adopting a new business model and nurturing a support network of loyal customers, industry partners and skilled workers. more
Cox And Charter Team To Provide Telecommunications Links For Business Customers
Cox Business and Charter Business announced recently that the two companies have teamed to provide a direct fiber optic cable telecommunications link between metropolitan areas outside of traditional service footprints.
Businesses in Las Vegas and Reno, Nev., can now easily and securely connect offices and information systems with a dedicated SONET, Ethernet connection or IP transport service. A similar link has also been established between Cox in Orange County, Calif. and Charter in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
High-capacity data transport and Internet services are attractive to businesses with multiple locations that transport large amounts of sensitive data such as financial institutions, long distance carriers, Internet service providers, hospitals, insurance companies and other businesses that do not want to purchase or lease their own fiber network. more

Obituary: John A.W. Tanner / Business executive who founded soccer program
For most of his life, John Albert William Tanner was a man on the move.
He married his sweetheart in 1958 in their hometown of Portsmouth in southern England and boarded a ship later that year for Montreal, where he worked as a mechanical engineer.
He and his wife, Hazel, moved to Edmonton, Alberta. They came to Pittsburgh in 1967, a city they would leave twice, only to return.
During his time here, Mr. Tanner contributed to the community as a business executive, business owner, business mentor, reader to disabled children and soccer coach to hundreds of youngsters in Upper St. Clair who came to love the sport as he did.
Mr. Tanner, of Canonsburg, one of 10 children who grew up in hard times, and who rose to become a top executive with Swindell Dressler and other companies, died Wednesday of Alzheimer's disease. more

I am interested in running my own "sexy maid" cleaning service. It would be just me and 4 of my friends and we are all very attractive and all different races. We would not be involved in any kind of sexual activity just providing some "eye candy" .Their is no other business in our area that is similiar and their is alot of wealthy single men in our area who may be interested in our service. We will not do any "nude" just sexy maid attire.Does anyone think this is a bad idea or have any suggestions? moreResolved Question: i have a great business plan but i need some help with a problem?

As a veteran bartender (going on 12 years), I'm just about at my burn-out point, so, I've decided to hang up my bottle opener for good and start a nice, quiet, small business. I've been thinking (for a couple of months now) about starting my own cleaning service, but before I decide to quit my job, and go out buying a ton of cleaning supplies, I'd like some advice on how to proceed with this. Any tips, comments, and suggestions are most welcomed! Please! P.S. -- I've seen alot of different rates, but, what does the average cleaner make? moreResolved Question: if i were running for president in 2012, do you think my political views would hold up to the majority of us?
would you support every or most of my views? here we go: No Abortions No Gay Marriages No more taxes( yes it would be sad, no money comin it but its for the best) All of our programs that we rely upon will also go with the taxes unless people volunteer to pinch in their fair share of work ( im not mean but i think if we truly need these things, then well stop paying others to do it and do it ourselfs for free) Examples: Child Care Social Security 401k Retirement Roads Schools Lights Military National Guard Navy Marines Army Navy Seals Peace Corps Green Peace The decision to go to war with any country will only proceed with an attack on us FIRST. after that i show no mercy atomic bombs gallore and then send i ntanks to clean up the rest. We are our own country, so we only worry bout ourselves, not even canade. No more oil, you are on your own if you must still rely on oil. This government i create does not look after you, you must look after yourself. Weed is legalized and is a legal business to sell The drinking age is 18 and is legal for business to sell Tobacco is illegal and and will result in time any other drug beside weed beer or cigs gives oyu an automatic life sentence. If you still want healthcare, you must pay higher premiums, so that everyone has the same chance as yall. The general vote is tossed and only the electoral college exists/ is counted If im presidnet, there is no court or senators or congressmen, its just me. The government owns all public businesses to ensure stability( similiar to communism but not to the extent) the cops can only arrest you if they see you in the act of something so that means reasonable cause and suspicion go out the door. no one is guaranteed a job if you dont work im not takin pity on yall. you can burn the flag and if provocation comes from anybody but you, its legal self defense. Employers can no longer have standards for employess Busineeses do not hold private rights anymore No shirt no shoes no service policy is punished by life sentence. to get a license you pay a huge fee( this way people will truly appreciate the priviliedge, not right, of driving) ill add more as this question goes. States only have the right to keep their name, so this removes state and local laws. only federal laws apply now. moreOpen Question: Do Americans have any honour?
More specifically do American CEOs have any honour? If Japanese CEOs ran these companies into the ground like these bafoons did, they would get a samurai sword and stick it through their heart, with honour. I run a small website design business out of my home, and generally do most of my communications via email. I was approached by a client a few days ago who is clueless about computers (her words) and would like to meet with me to discuss what she'd like done. This would be a larger contract than my usual work, so it's important to me that I present a good face. However, I work out of my bedroom, in my small apartment. I will try to do most of the discussions in the dining room, but I still need advice. Basically, my boyfriend thinks I'm going overboard with the cleaning/staging. I want to hide a lot of his action figures (especially the more monster ones, like one of a licker), and stage the place with candles and stuff, like I would if I were selling it. His argument is I'm selling websites, not house cleaning services. I argue that overall presentation is important. Who's right? I have been going a bit nuts, scrubbing the walls and everything, but I want to seem professional. This is my office, and should look it. Also, any tips to make a home seem professional? It's an apartment, so it's pretty difficult :( I did suggest meeting somewhere for coffee, but she wants to meet here for whatever reason. I don't feel I can say no without being rude. I think he just doesn't want to help LOL moreResolved Question: Are accounting services and janitorial services deductible?
If I use a local accounting and janitorial service for my business, are both of these costs deductible? They are not employees but firms that I pay to come in a clean and do my bookkeeping. Is this 'contract labor' ? I have done my own research. I still am not sure. That's why I come here to ask. Is that not what this forum is for? To get answers to questions? I may own a business at some point in my life, and I may never do taxes again. If you don't want to answer a question, then please don't bother. moreResolved Question: People accomplished in the field of business???? Please help!!!?
The task that I have been set by my teacher requires me to find out what technology is needed to run a successful business. The business is an airline company called "MillionAir". THIS IS JUST INFORMATION ABOUT THE COMPANY WHICH YOU CAN IGNORE: The company’s logo is very outdated and looks old fashion. There is no identity for the company which often results in not being widely recognised by the general public. A new updated logo is needed for ‘MillionAir’. The only information on previous and existing customers is a paper based system of filing cabinets with name and addresses of customers who have used the company to fly to certain locations around the world. Some of the old customer records are kept in a paper diary or even scribbled down on loose paper which is then placed on to a notice board. This is left for all to see resulting in lack of customer confidentiality. The only advertising material the hotel has is an A5 booklet printed on white paper folded in half to create a booklet. It is badly photocopied and when it is sent out to the customers, often it can’t be read properly. “MillionAir” has been operating for 5 years. The company has 2 owners, 2 receptionists, 4 pilots, and the airline owns 2 jet planes. There is also an air crew which has 2 stewards and 2 stewardesses. A cleaning and an airport crew including lost baggage, tower person, mentoring flights, customer services, which in total are 4 people. The total numbers of people that work for this airline are 16 people. IF IGNORED START READING FROM HERE: I have got these so far: *Computers *Printers *Ink cartridges *Paper *Photocopier *Scanner *Fax machine *Sufficient computer hardware. *Specialized software to help run a business properly. *An IT technician to ensure that all is in working order. Please could somebody add to my list, as I am need of the help of successful business men or business women. If you could also outline/estimate the general costs of these things it would be brilliant, since I am no expert with technology. Thank you so much!!! Your help is genuinely appreciated. moreResolved Question: How can I get into Stanford, UCLA, or USC? Is this good enough?

Or not?
My friend and I were discussing a possible business plan, but have no idea where to start, or if this type of thing even exists. We thought it would be a fun kind of side job to clean out old or foreclosed homes that are either being demolished or put back on the market. Do people do this, or does the bank that foreclosed the home have certain people they hire for this job? Who would we contact to get started, and where would we advertise our services, and to who? And my biggest question is if the house is foreclosed, what happens to all the things left behind? I'm thinking I might be able to get my hands on some pretty neat items, but who really owns the things left in the house? I was always very very interested in police work but I have both positive and negative run ins with the police. When I was 18 I was involved in a hit and run where a person accepted the cash from me and then turned out and called the police on me saying I have never stopped. I was automatically at fault as my license was expired. I was convicted of class 1 misd.( I have appealed twice with no luck). I was also charged with an assault but was dropped because it was determined as self defense, I have had a gun pointed at me by two 18 y.o. that didnt have any bullets in there gun and I beat the guys unconcious as they was trying to carjack my girlfriends car. On the good side, I have several letters of recommendations from local police officers from assisting them by being at the scene of a crime. I took down a guy who was trying to rob a convinient store and I have also chased down a truck full of illegal immigrants that hit someone and took off. I always eager to help and many tell me I should be a police officer. I am currently 21, I have an A.S. degree in business and I am an enlisted Marine. I have a spotless driving record and a clean credit report. I really want to do this after my service. I know I would be really good at it. I want to help people. I have been getting opinions from people if I even stand a chance at becoming an officer because of my misdemeanor charge and charges that have been dropped(I know they still show up). I feel like this is the only job I would do for free if I could. I also have an interest in finance but I would want to be an officer before anything elso. Any input, help suggestions???? I went to bed last night with a very heavy weight on my chest and a distant feeling of doom eminent around the corner. Am I being a little dramatic, maybe? But did you watch any of the election results? We have voted against life and precious little children, the sanctity of marriage, belief in God, personal protection and the 2nd amendment, protecting our boarders, we voted against the free market and business and good old fashion hard work. And what about becoming self-reliant in energy?...that's not going to happen, regardless of the fact that We (America) are the Saudi Arabia of Coal. Obama says he will "bankrupt" anyone who chooses to exercise the right to develop clean coal or any type of coal energy. We have traded in all those things that make our country great for the Marxist views of Obama, his supporters and his radical acquaintances. Yes, I just called him a Marxist, and I meant it, I've studied the theories of Karl Marx in detail, so I'm not just throwing around the term as a buzz word. He is a Marxist. Is there anything good about Obama? Sure, as a person I'm sure he is a good man, father and husband. I think he'll do great things for our foreign relations and I do think it's great that our country is in a place that we can elect a black president, I love it, in fact...I just don't want it to be this black president, not this man. He's full of lies and empty promises. While he spins his eloquent rhetoric of the "ideal" society he will spend trillions more in money we don't have, and open our boarders for terrorists and radicals to take over and tax away all the hard earned money of those who work hard to make this country better, he'll destroy our quality health care and it will be rationed away like food-stamps. Can anyone, ANYONE, out there name a single socialized country where their healthcare works? (I could go on all day on this topic, so maybe I'll just save it for it's very own post). I've been told by some that this is mean-hearted...well to that I say, Americans are the most generous and giving people in the world. Allow us to stay that way, let us be generous and give and help and provide...don't hand it over to the government to ruin. Because they will, you just watch. I know hundreds of doctors that give away their treatment and help to those truly in need, and I'm sure there are thousands more out there that I don't know that do the same. Millions of people donate their time to help at charities. People are donating to the food-banks and DI type donation centers all the time. All these charities are run by individuals or companies NOT affiliated with the government, and they WORK. If we start handing all those responsibilities over to the government to take care of...these charities will go by the wayside. It's happened in Europe, Asia and Australia. Think about it. Is there any country more charitable than here? Why do you think that is. For example: why would a Doctor or a Dentist give away his service's to help the needy when he's already required to give away all of his service for a government decided salary? And, how do you decide who is in need?...with lots of paperwork, lines and regulations. Look at the tax system if you have any doubt! 'You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot build character and courage by taking away men's initiative and independence. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.' - Abraham Lincoln On another note. From a religious standpoint we know that we are living in the last days. The decay of our morals and values is a good sign of that. BUT we still must stand up for the things that are right, like the right to life, the sanctity of marriage and so on...because no one else will. I don't condone people who live a different lifestyle than I do, and I don't think anyone should - but I do think that we must stand as an example of those things that Christ lived for...and died for. (And we should vote in support of those values as well) Because in these coming days when "everything goes", it's going to be really easy to just fall in step with the norm so as not to ruffle any feathers. I honestly believe that is what happened in this election (and I'm not just talking on a national level, it happened on a local level all across the country with many of the politicians put into office) people fell for the popularity and excitement surrounding the candidates and never bothered to look at what they actually stood for. ***I disagree, I need help proving her little rant is over exaggerated and false. Thanks! moreResolved Question: 12 Ways to Get Rid of a Telemarketer?
12 Ways to Get Rid of a Telemarketer 1. If they want to loan you money, tell them you just filed for bankruptcy and you could sure use some money. Ask, "How long can I keep it? Do I have to ever pay it back, or is it like the other money I borrowed before my bankruptcy?" 2. If you get one of those pushy people who won't shut up, just listen to their sales pitch. When they try to close the sale, tell them that you'll need to go get your credit card. Then, just set the phone down and go do laundry, shopping or whatever. See how long that commission based scum waits for you to get your credit card. 3. If they start out with, "How are you today?" say, "Why do you want to know?" Or you can say, "I'm so glad you asked, because no one seems to care these days and I have all these problems, my sciatica is acting up, my eyelashes are sore, my dog just died...." When they try to get back to the sales process, just continue on with telling about your problems. 4. If the person says he's Joe Doe from the ABC Company, ask him to spell his , then ask him to spell the company name, then ask where it is located. Continue asking personal questions or questions about the company for as long as necessary. 5. This one works better if you are male: Telemarketer: "Hi, my name is Julie and I'm with Dodger & Peck Services.... You: "Hang on a second." (few seconds pause) "Okay, (in a really husky voice) what are you wearing?" 6. Crying out, in well-simulated tones of pleasure and surprise, "Julie!! Is this really you? I can't believe it! Julie, how have you BEEN?" Hopefully, this will give Julie a few brief moments of terror as she tries to figure out where the heck she could know you from. 7. Say, "No," over and over. Be sure to vary the sound of each no, and keep an even tempo even as they're trying to speak. This is the most fun if you can keep going until they hang up. 8. If MCI calls trying to get you to sign up with their Family and Friends plan, reply, in as sinister a voice as you can muster, "I don't have any friends...would you be my friend?" 9. If they clean rugs: "Can you get blood out, you can? Well, how about goat blood or HUMAN blood - chicken blood too?" 10. Let the person go through their spiel, providing minimal but necessary feedback in the form of an occasional "Uh-huh, really, or, "That's fascinating." Finally, when they ask you to buy, ask them to marry you. They get all flustered, but just tell them you couldn't give your credit card number to someone who's a complete stranger. 11. Tell them you work for the same company they work for. Example: Telemarketer: "This is Bill from Widget & Associates." You: "Widget & Associates!! Hey I work for them too. Where are you calling from?" Telemarketer: "Uh, Dallas, Texas." You: "Great, they have a group there too? How's business/the weather? Too bad the company has a policy against selling to employees! Oh well, see ya." 12. Tell the Telemarketer you are busy and if they will give you their phone number you will call them back. If they say they are not allowed to give out their number, then ask them for their home number and tell them you will call them at home (this is usually the most effective method of getting rid of Telemarketers). If the person says, "Well, I don't really want to get a call at home," say, "Yeah! Now you know how I feel." (smiling, of course...) moreVoting Question: smartbro so slow for a week now? what did i do wrong?

Before our child was conceived, my BF had a severe (4+times/week) cocaine use/habit & was a heavy drinker (5+ drinks, 3-5 times/week). He then got emergency custody of his kids & his substance abuse toned down. Since his kids are now having visitation with their mother, he's taken back to the old habits -- mostly when the kids are gone. However, he still sneaks out after they're in bed or takes off for hours -- leaving me to take care of the household. With a baby on the way, he promised he wasn't doing cocaine any more and I had only witnessed the intoxication on about a once a week basis. I did just recently figure out he's been lying about being "clean" from cocaine. Here's my problem: I don't think I can/will expose my new baby to this behavior. I'm afraid he shouldn't be alone with a baby. I've shielded my son (8) from his habits but I'm terrified about the baby. He often says his kids are old enough (11-14) to take care of themselves so leaving for hours to hang out at a bar is fine. They can "cook & clothe themselves." Yet a baby cannot. I am trying to find a place to live but feel a tremendous guilt about leaving his kids with no one that's really here for them. I feel horrible about splitting my son up from kids he regards as closely as siblings. His kids have confided that they feel I am the only person that takes care of them & have learned that having a dad gone all hours of the night is not "normal." I have taken on the horrible task of documenting all his behavior. I have the phone records of his calls to his dealer. I have copies of credit card statements showing the amount of time & money he spends in bars.... I'm pretty sure he won't get any custodial rights to the baby. HOWEVER, I do not want it to come to some ugly mud slinging court case. I just want him to sign off all paternal right to the baby and let me fend for myself. I don't want to have to tell anyone that my baby's father is an alcoholic & drug addict but I don't know what I'm going to say when I move a month before a baby is born. I also feel very guilty about the fact that I am far from excited about the baby coming. I have no names. I have clothes & a car seat for the baby -- but nothing more. I have been waiting nine months for dad to change and I have put myself in a position requiring emergency action. He initially said he would move... then he said he would find me a place to live and pay for the first 6 months... now he's saying I'm on my own. I just wonder if moving with no job is even possible??? Am I doing the right thing? Honestly, if I just ignore his behavior, stay here, take care of all the kids -- money & a place to live are not a problem. It just doesn't seem right. I've asked him to go to get help. He regrets his behavior but seems to think it's no big deal to be drunk all weekend (since Friday and counting...) and tells me it's none of my business. He will not go to a counseling or rehab service. He knows how to trick all the drug tests he needed to take to get custody of his kids. It just seems that waiting is hopeless. Since his habits are hidden, I look like a bit of a lunatic -- he's never been charged with drug crimes or alcohol related tickets. He's a steady provider that owns his own company. He's not abusive (except he calls me all kinds of names when he's drunk) and hides his ways very well. The whole situation has me scared, sad & feeling very stupid for exposing myself to this for so long. I cry a lot and I don't want to be around anyone except my family. If I had my way, I wouldn't even get out of bed but I have responsibilities. From a completely non bias onlooker, what do I do? moreResolved Question: Where Can I get good quality business cards for free or cheap price?

I have been working for the same company for 15 years now. I am very well respected, considered the best at my position, and am scheduled to interview soon for a promotion. The catch is, I have 2 felonies from before I even started working there- credit card fraud, and uttering false documents. Currently, I am in a Union position. The promotion means leaving the Union. I would hate for them to find out later, only to get fired. I am in the retail business, with a company that has 180 stores in 4 states. It wouldn't even look right from an outside perspective that this company have a felon running one of their stores. I'm thinking of just declining the interview. I know the offenses were from 15 + years ago, but I think it will matter to them. This company has changed hands twice since I started with them. I've worked too long and too hard to lose my house and destroy my marriage, not to mention probably have a hard time finding another job, and not making what I'm making now either. I know I did the crime, fortunately, there was no jail time, just restitution and community service. I live pretty comfortably and have a secure job, and am well- respected. Perfect credit now, I did file bancruptcy in '94 With the internet nowadays, it's too easy to pry into anothers' life. I looked myself up on the states free court case board, and there I was........ FREE, didn't pay a cent. Didn't have to walk into the courthouse. Just for kicks, I looked up some people at work, and saw all the info from their divorces and bancruptcies, how much they had to pay alimony and such. It was sickening. I always thought in the back of my mind, that short of murder, a background screening company would go back 10-12 years at the most, but I don't even see why they would need one of the companies if they can go right to the state. At the time I was hired, I hadn't been convicted yet, so I didn't disclose that info. I think I'm going to play it safe, and keep what I have. I was thinking of telling them in the interview my reasons for not moving forward just to see what they say, but either way, they are going to be let down, and I don't know what good it will do for them to know my business. I guess when all this happened (when I was 21) I was in debt up to my neck, got fired from my job, (had a motorcycle accident, missed too much time), and took risks that didn't pay out. It really has shaped who I am, and I have been clean ever since. I was so disgusted with myself after this all went down 15 yrs ago, that I soon after had a vaesectomy, thinking I couldn't possibly be a good role model. 15 years later, I'm disgusted with myself all over again. moreResolved Question: A great political "poem" it flows so well!!?

My husband is stressing me out. My husband and I worked out a budget where I would have 50.00 to spend every week while I took care of the home, helped him with his fencing business, (i.e., take his workers home, give him directions from mapquest to customers homes, took care of customer service if he was running late or needed to make an appt., etc). This is while I was not working. I, of course, took care of everything around the house, cleaning, laundry, dinner, childcare, etc. while he was working and even when jobs were slow and he was not working. The 50.00 was supposed to be for my little expenses or that lunch that I might buy or for any garage sales I might just decide to hit. Well, it happened one week that he gave me the money and then that was it. It seemed like such a perfect little plan, and then as soon as he saw me so happy with our little financial arrangement, he cut me off. I hate asking him for money because he always gives me a hard time about it and makes me feel so belittled. He doesn't really give me an explanation as to why he doesn't have it, just a hard time. Now, I don't ever get my hair or my nails done. HE just bought a truck for himself, has his hair washed and cut by a professional, and even takes his truck to be cleaned. If we go out to eat and he wants three long island ice teas with dinner that's what he gets, but then again, when I ask for a dime, he freaks out. I do all these things for myself and my car, I don't have the kind of money that he does because all my work is housework, unpaid for by him. Now, when he decided to give me that $50.00 per week, I finally felt there was a little equality in our relationship, you know, maybe he was starting to move into the current century just a little. But, that only happened for one week and then I was back to asking him for cash whenever I needed it for stuff for the family, not to have someone clean my car or wash and cut my hair, mind you. Now I am working, but do not get paid for the first two weeks. I asked him if I could have the $50 that he promised along time ago but really never delivered on. I mean, after all, he took our daughter to get a jacket for 30 bucks this morning at walmart when she has one in the house already. I always shop at thrift stores for my clothes or buy the 1 or 2 dollar clearance rack clothes at walmart for myself. He knows that I would have thrifted for my daughter a very nice jacket for well under 30 dollars, but then he hesitates to give me 50 for the week until I get paid. I just don't understand him at all, he is so weirded out in his treatment of me with his money and I am sooooooooooo happy to have a job and NOT to have to wonder what his problem is anymore. His parents always were at war over money and he seems to be very comfortable when he sees me upset. He's not the kind of person that is very touchy feely or really cares to live in any person's reality or someone else's shoes. How do you get through to someone who is so me-me-me minded? Also, he just got two different fencing job downpayments today and he knows he has enough to loan me $50 as I get paid in 1 week over 500.00 and can more than pay him back the $50. moreVoting Question: Booth Rent vs.Commission?
I am looking for Pros and Cons of each. Our salon is hopefully going to be moving. Most of our staff has quit (not because of the owners they were friends before and decided to go behind the owners back and open their own salon next door to us) because of that these girls have also spread awlful rumors and stealing business. We are hoping to start a clean slate by moving to a smaller salon and new location. The owners currently do booth rent and are making no profit or very little. The last salon I was working at struggle with booth rent, then switched to the KRS system (from Redken-its a commission based system). Since switching they have really made an amazing profit (one account when I left had 50K in it) and with that she was able to give the staff more education, more rewards, etc! I think this would be a better idea, overtime I believe that this would pay off. I think the owners may be against it since they have always worked in a booth rent salon. We are going to go from a 8 chair salon to either 4 or 6...then focus more on spa services like facials and massage-we are not really wanting to do nail services. I think it would get us all on the same path and really make us work as a team? Thanks in advance! moreResolved Question: About something that might not be any of my bussiness...?
Here I go, well, my husband's cousin who is 16 is due in december with twins @ 32 weeks. She comes from a home where there are 5 dogs and one rabbit and feces everywhere. The house is never cleaned. NEVER. She has always been a delinquent, wouldn't go to school, has truancy officers visit, and her mother, well, she never made her go to school. She has been into drugs for a while, just pot as far as I know. She smokes cigarettes like a freight train. When she went to the doctor for a check up to see if there was enough amniotic fluid for the babies, she said "I don't give a **** I do not care." Her mother provides her with the cigarettes. And the girl says she knows who the father is, a 15 year old, but I believe she doesn't. She has been known to be promiscuous. If the guy isn't the father, it could ruin his life. I feel the strong need to report this to the child services/police. But I know it's none of my business. But at the same time, I feel like it is, as well as the community's. I myself, have a 5 month old bay girl and I'm 26, and I cannot understand how someone and their mother couldn't care about these babies. I am not an advocate for abortion, but I wish she would have terminated the pregnancy earlier. My assumption is that these babies will have severe mental and physical handicaps as well as be raised by a short tempered inexperienced and irresponsible mother. These babies don't stand a chance, and I believe that the babies could die at the hands of her mother through neglect or physical harm. I don't want to get involved but feel like it's my duty as a mother to. What will I do if something happens to the babies because the mom did something and I reported it, should I tell my husband or keep it anonymous. I just wanted to know what other people's views on this sensitive subject would be. My husband does care and is as disgusted as me and angry at his aunt for letting her daughter act the way she does. Its amazing how much different mu husband is from his family. I do want to do anonymously reguardless, I don't want any drama with his family or them have drama with my husband. At the same time, I could be saving those babies, even though they won't know its me. moreVoting Question: Is this a good reason to vote Democrat?
Why I'm voting Democrat Letter to the editor: I'm voting Democrat because like most Americans I trust lawyers more than anyone else; I think only lawyers should run the government, and all the Democrat Leaders are lawyers: Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Joe Biden, John Edwards, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Leader Harry Reid, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, and John Kerry, to name just a few. (Al Gore dropped out of Law School, so I don't trust him as much, except on Global Warming.) I'm voting Democrat because the Democrats support the trial lawyers and I think this country needs more lawsuits and less tort reform. And I don't believe the trial lawyers' contributions have a thing to do with it. I'm voting Democrat because Congress has done such a wonderful job under Democrat leadership the last two years, that I want a lot more of the same. I'm voting Democrat because I want to get my health care from the same competent, efficient, cost-effective, customer-service-focused folks who run the US Post Office, the Pentagon, FEMA and the state Registry of Motor Vehicles. I'm voting Democrat because I'm way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves. I'm voting Democrat because Sen. Obama has promised to cut the taxes of 95% of the people, including the 30% who don't pay taxes. I'm voting Democrat because Sen. Obama has promised to take away the secret ballot in union elections, and I think the union bosses should know if a workingman or woman is with them, or against them. I'm voting Democrat because Sen. Obama has over three years experience in the Federal Government, and "Hope" is a great strategy and he is for CHANGE BUT CAN'T OR WON'T EXPLAIN WHAT THE CHANGES ARE THAT HE WILL MAKE. I'm voting Democrat because Sen. Obama voted "present" instead of "yes" or "no" over 120 times in the Illinois State Senate, and I think we need a decisive president. I'm voting Democrat because I think that drilling for American oil is foolish, when we can buy oil from the Middle East. I'm voting Democrat because I think windmills (except off Hyannis) are a better answer to reliable, clean energy than Nuclear Energy. I'm voting Democrat because I don't think we give enough to other countries in foreign aid. I'm voting Democrat because I'm for putting up barriers to free trade, as they did in 1930 with the Smoot-Hawley bill. That made things much better then. I'm voting Democrat because I miss the HIGH EMPLOYMENT, INFLATION, and INTEREST RATES of the Jimmy Carter years. I'm voting Democrat because I think this is the perfect time to raise the Capital Gains tax and drive investment money out of the stock market. I'm voting Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene, but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't. I'm voting Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would, and I want to spread my wealth around to those who earn less-or nothing. I'm voting Democrat because freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it. I'm voting Democrat because, when we pull out of Iraq, I trust that the bad guys will stop what they're doing because they now think we're good people. I'm voting Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday CAN tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don't start driving a Prius. I'm voting Democrat because I'm not concerned about restoring partial birth abortions so long as we keep all death row murderers alive. I'm voting Democrat because I believe that small businesses should not be allowed to make a profit. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution to people who didn't start businesses. I'm voting Democrat because I believe the law is what judges say it is, and not what legislators say -- or the constitution. I'm voting Democrat because the media would call me a racist if I didn't. I just relocated to another state and I'm looking for a business to start. My last company was a cleaning service which grossed over 2 million dollars. The only problem is that it took several years and hundreds of janitors all over the state to accomplish that. I want to start something that won't require as much in labor costs and yield a faster return on my time investment. moreVoting Question: Accounting financial statement help?
I am lost. What I think is a liability is an asset etc... Here's the problem: Graham company began on May 1. During the first month, they completed the following transactions. Invested $40,000 into the business. Rent furnished office at $2200 in cash. Bought $1890 worth of office equipment on credit. Paid $750 cash for cleaning services. Gave consulting services to client. Collected $5400 in cash. Provided $2500 in consulting services on credit. Paid $750 cash for an assistant's salary for first half of the month. Received $2500 cash for services provided May 12. Gave $3200 consulting services on credit. Received $3200 cash for services provided May 22nd. Paid $1890 cash for the office equipment purchased May 3rd. Purchased $80 of advertising on credit. Payment due June 1st. Paid $750 cash for second half of assistant's monthly salary. Paid $300 cash for May's phone bill. Paid $280 cash for utilities for May. Withdrew $1400 cash for personal use. Where would I list these things if the categories are: Accounts receivable, office equipment, Accounts payable, Capital, Withdrawals, Revenues and expenses. I can figure out withdrawals and accounts receivable/payable, but the others are confusing me. They also want a statement of owner's equity, a balance sheet and a statement of cash flows for May. I know this is a lot, so any assistance is appreciated! Thanks! moreResolved Question: Is this bad customer service?
I work as a security officer. While I work, after business hours, the cleaners clean the building. I like to walk back and forth in front of my security desk because I sit at the desk throughout the whole shift. My desk is in a narrow hallway and directly in front of a door. A cleaner entered the door and I kept walking, but I was in the cleaner's way. I stopped walking and let the cleaner pass me. Should I have been sitting behind the security desk instead of walking? moreResolved Question: Need help on the French and Indian War?
Someone had posted 10 questions on the French and Indian War today. By the time I typed the answers the question had been deleted. So I'm not sure if it was resolved, or just violated terms of service. But either way, if you still need help, here are the answers: 1.) subsistence farming. (think: "substantial" amount of food) 2.) Robert Dinwiddie (double check this one, but I'm pretty sure) 3.) a halt to westward expansion (the British ruled the colonies at the time. They drew the Proclamation Line along the Appalachian mountains as a barrier that the colonists weren't allowed to cross. This was a.) to keep the colonists from wandering into Indian land and starting fights, and b.) to keep the colonists closer to the east coast so Britain could keep an eye on them. Keeping them in reach meant they were easier to control. ) 4.) Middle Passage (this was the route that slave ships took to get to America. Remember "middle" = between. It was between Africa and America. Conditions inside the slave ships were pretty hellish. The Africans were really cramped together, chained up, had little food and water, and didn't get much, if any, fresh air. It was hot, sweaty and disgusting: People would get seasick and throw up. And if you had to go to the bathroom, you just went. There was no clean up for any of this. The person right beside you could be dead for days before being removed. So you can imagine how gross the smells and sights were. Not only that, but this journey could last several months before reaching land.) 5.) ? No idea, but I just looked it up and it said Harvard. 6.) ? I don't know, but it is NOT the treaty of Paris. 7.) Fort Necessity (Because it was "necessary" to protect themselves against the French.) 8.) ? 9.) lost their businesses. (Land speculators were basically like today’s realtors. They bought and sold land. But since the Proclamation Line kept them in one place, they couldn't go find new land to sell in the west.) moreResolved Question: Reasons for voting Democrat?

My daughter is in the AFJROTC at her high school. We have had several instances where the MSgt has been insulting and rude to her for reasons beyond my daughter's control. I would like to file a complaint with his superior but I don't know where to start. Two examples of his rude behavior: 1. We had to get my daughter's blues altered at the cleaners. When I picked them up, I noticed that the workmanship was sloppy. I told my daughter to mention it to her teacher, as this dry cleaning business was on contract with the school. My daughter said that when she told him, he asked her "Is your mama a professional seamstress? How would SHE know?" in a sarcastic tone. I just wanted to make sure they were aware of the carelessness of the seamstress.....since the school was paying her for her services. 2. We are currently switching her over to PE to finish out the semester. The 9th grade principal told me yesterday that my daughter did not have to wear the uniform for the ROTC class anymore. Today, the MSgt asked her why she wasn't wearing it. The only words my daughter was able to get out were "My mom..." and he cut her off and asked her "Is your mama runnin' this show?". His arrogance is uncalled for. My daughter has a perfect discipline record and holds a B in that class. She gets compliments from the other officers for being a hard worker. So what do I do? My daughter was reading this over my shoulder and told me that on the day he fitted her for the uniform, he hitched up her pants and told her she better not gain anymore weight because he wouldn't have any uniforms big enough for her. He said this in front of several other students. My daughter is 5'6 wears a size 12.....she's not big. My daughter is the only one being treated this way, and only by him. If he is merely "teaching" her then why humiliate her in front of her peers? We're talking about a first semester freshman....not an enlisted G.I.. What I DO know though is that nobody is going to treat my fifteen year old daughter in that manner. I don't care WHO you are. moreVoting Question: NEED SERIOUS RESUME HELP!!!?

For my wedding day, we had a mishap with the limo company. To tell you a bit about the situation, I'll need a minute of your time because it's a bit lengthy. My mother called the Limo Service of Cleveland, located in Berea because a friend of hers used it as their wedding day limo service and got a huge discount. My mother called and interviewed the owner, then passed the phone to me for the final decision. I told Mike, the owner, that the only thing I cared about was that the limo was newer-looking, clean and in excellent condition. Mike told me that the vehicle was a 2006 and was "like new". He stated that the deposit would be $200 and the final balance would be due two weeks in advance of the event. I gave my mom the "OK" to put the $200 deposit on her credit card, (as the deposit was a gift from her and my father.) I also arranged for a meeting for my husband and I to come in, check out the vehicle and sign the contract. When my (then) fiancee and I pulled up to the company office, right away red flags were raised when we saw a mechanic working with the hood of the vehicle proped open. The mechanic saw our concern and he immediately told us that it was "routine" for him to check the vehicle before every run. He showed us around the limo and to my dismay, it was a rust bucket. The limo was white with a black baseboard. The baseboard had a few dents and to cover obvious rusting, they spray-painted over it with black paint. The interior of the vehicle was dirty and the carpeting had major staining. When the owner pulled in the drive and took us into his office, I informed him of my concern. I told him that I was interested in another of his vehicles, to which he replied that I'd have to submit another $200 deposit on top of the initial deposit to cover for the different vehicle, which he suggested was in "higher demand". I told him that I didn't have the money at the time of the appointment and I advised that I'd either mail or drop of the payment. Either way he'd receive it within two weeks. To my parents' surprise and dismay, Mike charged the deposit to their credit card account the same day of our appointment, (after I told him that I would bring him the payment!) After the charge was taken, my father called the limo company and asked about the limo, telling him that he misrepresented the original limo when he said it was newer and it ended up being a rust-bucket. He also asked the owner if he held a legitimate business, as he's never heard of a company controlling their business in such a fraudulent manner. The owner pled ignorance and said that he'd have to call my father back as the contract was not in front of him. We never received the promised returned call. Two months before the wedding, the limo company charged my parents account the final balance. We called the company many times and were unable to leave a voicemail because the voicemail box was full. My parents decided that they'd cover the limo charge and my fiancee and I would repay them. They also closed their credit card account with the credit card company so that the limo company could no longer charge them. The day before the wedding we were finally contacted by Mike to go over the schedule. We didn't have a backup plan, so we were cordial over the phone. I made sure with him that the vehicle would be clean and I verified the itinerary. I let him know that we had a tight schedule so the driver had to be perfectly on-time. The day of the wedding, the limo was clean and prompt. I was happy that everything was going according to plan. After church, the limo driver congratulated us by supplying the limo with two bottles of champaigne, however there were no cups. This being the least of our worries, we invited him to the after-church brunch and fed him. We made it to the Cleveland Botanical Gardens, took pictures and then headed to the Cleveland Art Museum for our next picture session. Mid-way to the Museum, the lights in the limo burned out and the radio stopped working. The limo slowed down and we came to a stand-still in front of the Museum. During the pictures the limo driver informed us that the alternator blew and a replacement limo was on its way. The groomsmen, (most of them being mechanics), tried to work on the limo in their tuxedos, but they had no luck. Before-hand, we had to reserve the BP Building, (an inside venue in case it rained) for $100. We had every intention of taking pictures there. We were unable to make it there for pictures. Furthermore, my groom and I had to jump in the photographer's car and head to the reception site because we were going to be late. We were scheduled to arrive at the reception hall at 5pm, where the bridesmaids and I would "freshen-up" and we'd take more pictures with the whole group on the Country Club golf course. We also had a videographer scheduled to take video shots of us starting at 5:30pm. The reception started at 6:00 pm.
