Local business briefs: Tennessee Commerce faces Nasdaq delisting

Franklin-based Tennessee Commerce Bancorp, Inc. said Friday it received a letter from Nasdaq saying it was subject to possible delisting for not filing its annual report on time. The business bank plans to request a hearing before Nasdaq that could take place within the next 45 days.

The $900-million asset bank said two weeks ago it discovered problems with internal controls over its financial reporting and had hired an auditor to look into the issues. It also put its chief financial officer on paid administrative leave but bank officials said they had no reason to believe the deficiencies would impact previously reported results.

Centex to sell HomeTeam pest business to Rollins

Home builder Centex Corp. has agreed to sell its pest control business, HomeTeam Pest Defense, to Rollins Inc. for $137 million in cash.

The companies expect the deal to close in early April.

Atlanta-based Rollins (NYSE: ROL) said it plans to operate HomeTeam separately, along with its other pest management units Orkin, PCO Services, Western Pest Services and The Industrial Fumigant Co.

"The purchase of HomeTeam will provide us with an entry into a new business channel, and provide our company a meaningful opportunity for longer term growth," said Gary Rollins, president and CEO of Rollins in a press release.

"This transaction is good for Centex because it further sharpens our focus on our primary business of homebuilding and generates cash that can be applied to homebuilding initiatives," said Timothy Eller, chairman and chief executive of Centex. more

Fortune: Georgetown great for entrepreneurs

Fortune Small Business Magazine has put Georgetown in the No. 2 slot on a list of 100 cities deemed the best places "to live and launch."

Fortune's April 2008 edition includes the full list of cities, which include Portland, Ore., Charlotte, N.C., Fort Worth, Santa Few, N.M and San Antonio, which came in at No. 34. Only Bellevue, Wash. placed ahead of Georgetown.

Georgetown, which is 20 miles north of Austin, scored high because of its "business friendly tax structure [and] entrepreneurial camaraderie," the study says.

The city's recent economic development coups include a new life sciences commercialization center that is home to several small biotechnology companies and Citigroup Inc.'s data center.

Lifestyle also factored into the ranking. more

Resolved Question: Where can I find a (credible) ranking of online MBA programs?

I am currently applying to business schools and I would like to apply to at least one online program. However, since I run the risk of employers frowning on an online degree, I would like to be sure that the program is both high quality and prestigious (i.e. I'm not going to U. Phoenix).
