Discovery Center marketing questioned
Prairie Discovery Center project broke down into small groups Tuesday night, the topic drawing the most interest by far was "marketing and economics."
The 15 people who circled the table raised some of the same questions that have been directed at the proposed center since it became the centerpiece for the city receiving authorization to issue $50 million in sales tax and revenue (STAR) bonds a couple years ago. The center is part of the south end project. The answers to those questions are not known yet, but the event did give the consulting team hired to develop a master plan a good starting point. The team is being led by Boston-based E. Verner and Associates, with assistance from Hilferty and Associates, and Economic Stewardship. Along with the public meeting, the consulting team's two-day stay will include interviews with city commissioners and other groups and individuals. more(AFX UK Focus) 2008-05-20 18:24 Investor banned from doing business in Iowa
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A Des Moines real estate investor accused of consumer fraud has been banned from doing business in Iowa.
A Polk County District Court judge on Monday ordered John Davis to stop selling, renting, leasing or investing in real estate in Iowa.
The order resolves a consumer fraud lawsuit filed by the Iowa attorney general's office against Davis and his companies in 2006.
Davis, who agreed to the terms of the order, also was ordered to pay $30,000 to reimburse consumers.
Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller says the lawsuit alleged that Davis sold homes at highly inflated prices to customers with average or below average credit scores. He says Davis also used phantom down payments to help customers get mortgages.
Miller says all the loans cited in the lawsuit ended in foreclosure. more

Voting Question: Undergraduate business program that is entirely online based?
I'm looking for an undergraduate business program that is entirely online based. I am at work at inconvenient hours so it is difficult to go to school at a set time. I don't mean university chains like Kaplan and Strayer, but more of a legitimate, and preferably higher ranking universities in the US. It has to award bachelor's in business at completion. Thank you moreResolved Question: What is the best path to take regarding practicing criminal law?
I'm an aspiring criminal lawyer, hopefully a prosecuting lawyer in the future. I am in my first year of undergraduate work at the University of Florida and I am well acquainted with the process of becoming a lawyer and earning a JD. I understand it is important to keep a great GPA and do well on the LSAT to get into a good law school. However, my true question is whether there are any specific law schools that stand out as better schools in the specialty of criminal law. To clarify, there are many rankings of the law schools on the internet, usually with Harvard, Georgetown, Yale, etc towards the top. However, they are generally an overall ranking of the school which gives a broad education for all types of aspiring lawyers from those who want to get into family law, appeals courts, corporate business, etc. Are there any certain law schools that are known for pumping out some great criminal lawyers, or is there really no preference to the school apart from its overall prestige and education. Obviously going to Yale Law school will give me better career opportunities than earning an online law degree. However, I was wondering if among the top, or any general cluster of law schools, if there were any that stood out as extraordinary for criminal law in particular. This is just a general inquiry on the subject. I know I have a few years to go before I will be deciding which law schools to go to, and many more years before I'll be considering specialties and where I want to practice. But I was hoping to gain some input early so I can possibly set my goals high for some better law schools that fit my interests. moreResolved Question: Should I attend UNC an get a B.S. in Business Administration, or go to NC State and get a B.S. in Accounting.?
My Future plans include going for Either my Master's in Accounting or an MBA. Carolina has a GREAT Business school, but Business Administration is such a wide category, I hear it is tough to get a job with. Accounting is much more specialized field, but I would be getting my Degree from NC State, which is no Carolina. Carolina is Highly Ranked for their Business Administration Undergraduate Program. Anyone got Any Suggestions? I do probably want to get a job in Finance, Investing, or Real Estate. moreResolved Question: Is it possible to transfer from a UK university to a US university in the middle of an undergrad degree?
I'm currently reading management at City University London (Cass Business School) , which is one of the top ranked in the UK for their undergraduate management program. I have an SAT score of 2210. I studied the IB diploma at an international school and although I have a good final score in my IB diploma my high school GPA is low (3.1). However my grades at university have been excellent so far and far better than what I had at school I'll finish my first year at City University soon and I would really like to transfer to the US for the remaining portion of my degree. Would it be possible for me to do so? And also will I lose one year and have to repeat the first year or can I join the second year of a management/ business major degree in the US ? moreResolved Question: How good of a chance do I have of getting into Boston College?
I have a 3.3 GPA (unweighted) at a difficult private school (much more difficult grading scale), my sat score is 1950, I'm hispanic (will this give me a higher chance of being accepted?) i am the president of the debate club, i have started a political activism group at school, I do a lot of volunteer work, I play piano, I'm in touring choir, and I am in the top 40% of my class. How good of a chance do I have of going to Boston College? I know they have an undergraduate business program ranked in the top 30 or 40 in the country. Which do you think is a better school- Villanova University of Boston College? Also, mychances.net (which is 85% accurate) says I have a 23% chance of being accepted at Stanford. Do you think this is about true?My school actually is very difficult, it is one of the top schools in my area and is featured every year in Philadelphia Magazine's Best Schools in Philly edition. I have been told time and time again that colleges will see the difficulty level in the school profile moreVoting Question: How good of a chance do I have of getting accepted to Villanova University?

I graduated from a very good school with a degree in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering Technology. My degree was a 5 year fully ABET accredited B.S. which included Calculus I, II and Dif Eq. I graduated with a 3.3. This was supposed to be the practical side of engineering. The school itself was ranked in the top five technology schools. The classes were practical but complex. This was all fine until I graduated and started talking to recruiters and HR managers. Here is what they ALL seem to say about Engineering Technology programs. These are not engineering programs and do not have the theory or mathematics needed for research or engineering. Many people are miss lead to believe that such programs are a branch of practical engineering. Most companies will not consider an engineering technology degree to be of any worth. Not enough theory for engineering and not enough business for management. Seems like my only hope is in a Maintenance department or to work as a technician. Ok wondering what to do at age 35. Should I go back to another school and pursue an undergraduate degree that is EE and NOT EET or maybe a masters degree in something else. I don't think a masters degree in EET would be any better or different. I'm leaning toward going for an EE degree, I will loose about two years worth of credit and it may take three or four years going part time and working. Do any companies still consider EET or MET degrees to be valid to apply for a management or practical engineering position. Is there any hope. Any advice or thought form people who know about the field would be appreciated.I am from and currently live in the USA. moreResolved Question: Chances of getting into a top 15 MBA program?
Hi, I am currently getting undergraduate degrees in Finance and Management from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University (top 15 bachelor's business school- I think it usually ranks at times number 5, number 7, number 9, number 11 and number 15) and minor degrees in french and journalism. At graduation time, if I have a -3.6 GPA -Two internships -A thesis paper published on a theory on immigrant entrepreneurship in America at different decades with statistical proof conducted in new york city (published in a scholarly journal) -Started and am president of a Management Skills Improvement club (wrote a few case studies with the help of faculty) -Started a philanthropy initiative raising a couple thousand dollars of money each year for inner city schools and volunteer program -Member of and write in the journal of an Emerging Markets club -Study abroad at Oxford University (Among other things I am still planning on doing, and job experience of 2-3 years- at a place that is still to be decided where I work diligently and dexterously) And hopefully, a GMAT score of high 600s or low 700s- right around the margin (based on practice tests) Major Hobbies: -Wine making at home (from crushing the grapes, to fertilizing and preserving)- I think I might go into a small business of selling personalized wines before I graduate -Horse Polo and riding (I attended a Polo camp in India as well) What do you think, roughly, are my chances of getting into a good MBA program. Some of the ones I am considering are: -Duke University Fuqua School of Business -Yale School of Management -Dartmouth College Tuck School of Business -Cornell University Johnson School of Business -Wharton at UPenn However, ones in the tier just below, such as UCLA are considered as well. Thanks! moreResolved Question: what are my chances of getting accepted into these colleges?
I worry about what schools i should apply for and i dont have a clue about where i stand, so i wanted to see what others think. I am currently a senior in high school. I have a GPA of 3.7 from scale of 4.0(weighted). That is about a 92.6 (weighted). I have taken AP US history and honors american literature during junior year. I am currently taking 3 AP classes (AP Spanish, AP English, and AP Calculus). I only have 70 hours of community service, which i consider horrible compared to many others. I am rank 8 in my class. I was in the national honors society last year. I have only participated in bowling, but had no awards and no leadership. I participated in track and cross country but i never finished them. I barely did any extracurriculars. I dont know if hobbies even matter because i do martial arts on my own because i learn from a personal trainer. I have breakdanced for a year, and i did hip hop dancing for half a year. These hobbies were all done on my own without attending any schools because i had people to teach me. My SAT scores are: 490cr 590math and 550writing and it was my second time taking it. I havent ever worked at all so i have no working experience. I was also a transfer student from another school where the grading system was in letters, so my GPA might not be what it actually is due to the inability to change the letters to numbers. I had A's and a few B's when I was in my previous school. I have been handcuffed once in middle school, but i do not know if it was considered an arrest because the lady at court told me she did not know. I was found guilty of shoplifting because the lady told me that if i admitted to being guilty, the file would be kept as a secret, and no one would have access to it. I have also been suspended in my sophomore year for cursing but it was an in-school suspension so i dont know if it was actually considered a suspension. I transfered after sophomore year and i entered my present school during junior year. I think that i barely have any chance in any of these colleges. Can someone tell me where i stand as a candidate? I dont know if it helps but i am asian american and of chinese descent. 1. UPenn (Wharton) 2. New York University (Stern) 3. Carnegie Mellon University (Tepper) 4. Cornell University (Johnson) 5. Boston College These schools are probably out of my reach, so i dont know if i should even apply to these schools. I really want to attend these colleges, so is there anything i can do as of now to make myself stand out? If not and they are out of my reach, can anyone tell me what other schools or universities offer good undergraduate business programs because i am deciding on majoring in business. I do not just want what is good, but what my best possible chances are. It would be nice if anyone can answer quickly because a lot of applications are going to be due soon so i have to get going. Thank you.I also wanna add: University of Virginia (McIntire) and Pennsylvania State University (Smeal) I might consider the following... Univ. of Maryland College Park (Smith), Boston University, Georgetown University (McDonough), University of Pittsburgh, and Syracuse University (Whitman). moreResolved Question: Can I get into these Mathematics grad schools?
1. Washington University (fairly high ranking) 2. Iowa State (not as high ranking) Honestly, I mainly want to get into these because of location. I have 3.6 GPA, and I believe my Math GPA is about the same. I have covered most undergraduate topics except for Differential equations (rather glaring omission.) and Topology. I have no research experience. Haven't always been a Math major so I have some Business and Actuarial Science courses such as statistics. The last Subject Math GRE I took could have gone smoother but I haven't gotten the scores back yet. I'll take it again on Saturday. I have also been Tutoring math for quite a while, thought that might help me with programs that have TAs. I have a few professors that seem to really like me. So I expect to get some good letters of recommendation. My perspective: I believe that both of these schools are state schools, making them easier to get into because they want TAs. I think that what may hold me back is a less than optimal GRE score and lack of research experience. What are my chances of getting into these schools? Are there any schools you recommend I apply to based on my "resume". I could use another safety school, Iowa State is the closest thing I have to one right now.I misspoke, I meant "University of Washington" in Seattle Washington. To Mathematician: I think that is good advice and I appreciate your answer. I would still like to know approximately where I stand in terms of getting into grad school. I realize a precise answer to this question is probably unreasonable. If my chances of getting into one of these isn't very high, then I would appreciate a safety school recommendation where I would have a very high chance of getting in.Right now I'm most interested in Abstract Algebra and Real Analysis. moreResolved Question: Rank undergraduate business schools in tiers?

I don't want to study more than four years in college... so, it's important for me, is the stern undergraduate school good? and what majors they offer on the ster undergraduate school? moreResolved Question: Need an opinion about college school?
so im in a dilemma. ive been fortunate enough to been accepted to 3 schools for GRADUATE studies: University of Southern California for Elec Engr University of California, Irvine for Elec Engr University of Pennsylvania for Systems Engr I am from california and i went to UCI for my undergraduate studies in EE. now i am figuring out what I should do for grad school. I made a list of key features whether good or bad UCI: -Cheap, ~20k for the program -I know the faculty and some students. Easier to make friends and i know the school. -I can commute from home to save money. USC: - Better name than UCI. Nationally known (partially to its football). Best engineering rank. - Can possibly commute or take train. But nonetheless its 40 miles from home so i know the area alright and i have a car. - Expensive, 100k for the program UPenn: - Probably more worldwide known than the other two being an Ivy league. - Expensive, 100k - Far from home. Don't know about weather, living habits, etc. -Major is systems engr. Curriculum is 1/2 business which is REALLY what I like. Some will be taken at Wharton. So I have talked to many professionals and most tell me that I should go to either UCI or USC. They said that if I want to work in California after, which I do, I should stay in California since UPenn's network is mostly east coast. on top of that USC and UCI would be economically cheaper in terms of having a car and knowing the area. on top of that i have a current internship i can keep. they said work experience is the most important thing looking for jobs. so its logical to stay in california. BUT heres the dilemma. i want to eventually do an MBA and go on doing business or sales. maybe even entrepreneurship. If I go to UPenn, I am simply buying their brand name. Will it help in admissions to a MBA program saying I've taken classes at a top tier business school like Wharton? Also, say in business or sales, does it help to have come from a well known name? I am looking for a long term return on investment. Any comments/opinions welcome. For your reference: USC National Rank ~ 25s, Engr Rank #7 UCI National Rank ~ 40s, Engr Rank ~40s UPenn National Rank #4, Engr Rank ~30s moreResolved Question: What chances do I have to get into Undergraduate Rutgers University Business School-New Brunswick?
i am a junior in high school and i want to apply to the undergraduate program at rutgers right out of highschool.(New Brunswick) My highschool G.P.A is 3.5 and my SAT score is 2100. I do many extracurricular activities and have community service hours. I dont know my class rank. Im probably in the top 20 percent of my class (im in all honors classes) What are my chances to get into Rutgers Business School? moreResolved Question: Which is the Best Work Experience to get into a Top MBA program?
'm graduating this semester with 3.36 GPA. My school is ranked around the 80s by the US News for its undergraduate business program. I double majored in Accounting and Finance. My goal is to get into a top MBA program (not necessarily HBS or Stanford, but the likes of Kellogg, Columbia, UCLA, or even Stern and USC would be just great). Now, assuming I get a high GMAT score (670+), which I would invest alot of time to attain, what kind of work experience would help me the most to get into a top MBA? I have two options, either to work for 1) a Sovereign Wealth Fund; or for 2) PwC on the financial advisory side. I intend to work there for about 2 - 3 years. Many people told me that a Sovereign Wealth Fund work experience would be prestigious, unique, and surely differentiate you from other applicants as admission committees are looking for diversity in backgrounds to bring in a different perspective in class (what are the odds that there is another international applicant having the same background in an SWF?). However, others told me that PriceWaterHouseCoopers is very prestigious and highly reputable firm in financial advisory (and big 4 in actg), and admission committees at the top schools still hold notions that working for a big consulting firm is the best you can bring to the table along with I-banking. So, which of these backgrounds would help me the most (taking into consideration my undergrad) to get into to a top MBA? What might impress an admission committee more? moreResolved Question: Many School Related Questions?
Hey guys, I am entering my senior year in high school and I have my eyes set on going to the University of Washington next year. I don't know if any of you guys have heard of the running start program in the state of Washington but it basically allows high school students to attend classes at local community colleges and gain college and high school credits at the same time. I will have my associates degree from college a few months before I graduate from high school. Afterwards I will go into UW as a mid-year junior. I looked at the degree programs at the University of Washington and I've decided that I will pursue an undergraduate business degree in both finance and accounting. Before I enter the workforce I might also earn a masters degree in accounting and get CPA certified as well. From the looks of things, I should complete those three degrees and get cpa certified by the time I am 21 years old or 22 at the oldest. This leads me to a few questions: 1) After I earn those degrees, will my young age hinder my ability to be competitive with older applicants who are searching for the same jobs as me? I was speaking with my father a while ago and he said that I might have a harder time being competitive due to the lack of maturity and world experience I may have compared to older job seekers. 2) Once I get my degrees from UW, I plan to work a few years and come back and earn an MBA; hopefully from a top 10 or even a top 5 program such as Stanford, MIT, Michigan, etc. Do these high end programs place a large emphasis on where I earned my previous degrees? UW has a good undergraduate business program. It is ranked 21st overall in the nation by U.S. News and its accounting program ranks 14th in the nation. However the entire business school is only ranked 33rd overall by BusinessWeek. If I finish at UW with a decent GPA (3.5 or higher) would I stand a good chance at being able to earn an MBA from one of the top programs later on? Or would MBA programs prefer that I have my undergraduate studies completed at a stronger program? 3) Any opinions on fraternities? Although I have heard mixed opinions about them I am definitely leaning towards joining a fraternity while I am a student there. From what I understand, most people that have been in fraternities don't regret it. It looks good on a resume, you get to meet more people than most other students would be able to, you get to do community services and activities, and I've heard the parties are awesome. My only major concern is the hazing. All of your answers would be greatly appreciated. I've tried finding the answers to my first two questions and I just don't know where to begin looking for them. However I understand a bit about fraternities and I just want to get more opinions on them. Thankyou! -I want to major in international business, and minor in languages. -I'm looking for a 4 year undergraduate school, preferably in Florida or California, but thats only a preference. -Looking for a small school in an urban or suburban setting(private school preferred, like around 2000-5000 undergrads) -I have a 4.0 GPA(top 10% class rank) -My SAT scores are not great, but above average. I am not good with standardized testing. -I would like to study abroad if they have a program for that(Would love to study England, Italy, or Japan) -Ivy League schools would be a little stretch for me to apply to, however I am looking for a very good school close to Ivy League. I am graduating this semester with a 3.4 GPA. My school is ranked around the 80s by the US News for its undergraduate business program. I double majored in Accounting and Finance. My goal is to get into a top 10 MBA program, not necessarily Harvard, Stanford, or Wharton, but Kellogg, Chicago Booth, MIT Sloan, and Columbia will do the job. Now, what can I do right now to land such an admission? I am contemplating a couple of options: 1) One option is to get an MSF (Masters of Science in Finance) right now and then work for a couple of years, then go back and apply for the MBA; 2) Another option is start working right now and then apply for the MBA. So, would an MSF + 2 years of experience be better (or same as or less advantageous) than 3 years of experience? Please tell me how can maximize on my chances on getting into a Top MBA? Would passing 1 or 2 levels of the CFA help? Also, what kind of work experience would help me the most? I can land a job in a Sovereign Fund but also have the change to work in PWC on the advisory side. Which would be better? Are there other better types of jobs that can help out more? What are the preferences of admission committees? (During this time, I will work hard to ace the GMAT and get a score above 680.) So @ my school, we have a program where if you have a 3.9 GPA or higher and declare your major in your sophmore year, you can get your masters degree and bachelors at the same time, granted you spend an extra year as an "undergraduate" so to speak taking graduate classes. My school while rising in the ranks (t60), its international studies department is top 8 in the country. I'm quadlingual and am almost certain that i will be getting into the field of international business or consulting down the road as i have worked and interned over the summers, and done some minor deals on the side. These languages happen to be Mandarin, English, Hebrew, and Spanish so its very well rounded....and more importantly, i've been making connections in the far east for quite some time building my network. I'm going to be 23 when i graduate and while i have alot of time ahead of me, i am warry of staying in school too long and not getting started with my career. When i graduate in a year, i'll have the following: Minor in Biology Bachelors in International Studies with Concentration in Economics and trade Masters of Global Finance and Economic Integration I guess this is where the road forks...i do have a keen interest in both of these paths...and i'll play the pros and cons 1.) JD - Pros? Plays well to my strength, no need to dable with work experience, i'll graduate when im 26. Cons? slightly unusable in its state although if i got an LLM in international law...i would be in business. 2.) MBA. Pros? fits my current completed coursework beautifully. I've already been focused on these types of courses for years. Cons? Requires 2 years of work experience which while no bad rears an ugly economic reality. I'll be 27 when i'm done with it! Any Ideas? I mean i realize in the grand scheme 1 year is not a big deal, but i am at somewhat of an impasse. Thoughts? I've been researching those JD/MD programs, but i really don't want to be in school until im almost 30...Too much. CN: Quadlingual INTS M.A. wants to get good "combo" degree...help! Okay I am in high school and I am deciding on what to do with my life. I've always said I have wanted to be a doctor. Medicine is very interesting to me. If I was to go to a medical private school in my state (Louisiana), it would be cheaper than going to let's say UCB (since I don't live in California), right? How much do doctors make a year after school and residencies? I want to be a neurologist or cardiologist (give me estimates for both). I am thinking of working in Louisiana, California, Phoenix, or New York. However, I am going to end up being 24 at the end of undergraduate and medical school, and plus 3-5 years of residency so I will end up being 28 or 29! Not a good image there. On the other hand, I've always thought law was boring and too complicated (plus, everyone is a lawyer. There are waaaaay too many lawyers in the world.). Also, law is not guaranteed money. (My goal here is to have a job I like with almost 100% guaranteed money. I would like to fit in the upper-class ranking of society [$250,000+ per year]). How much would law school cost compared to medical school (at the schools and areas mentioned previously)? How much do criminal or corporate lawyers make a year (in the areas mentioned previously)? What is the length of law school? Do I have to do any "residency-like" things for some years? I live in NJ and got a 2.65 gpa as a freshman, 2.69 as a sophomore, and a 3.18 as a junior this year. I also got an 1800 on SAT's...all 600's haha. What good undergraduate business schools am I in the range of? I would prefer if it was ranked in the top 50 of a respectable college list, such as US Business School rankings. Thanks for the help moreResolved Question: Which is a better school - University of Texas@ Austin or SMU?
I'm an undergraduate student. I haven't completely decided on a major/career path but I am in between business and pre-medicine. I would major in Nutrition (only offered at UT) or Biology...or get a BBA. I know UT is higher ranked in business than SMU, but does that necessarily mean that UT grads get better job offers than SMU grads? UT is stronger in the sciences, so Iwould be a more competitive med school applicant if i stay at SMU..since my gpa would be higher? With scholarships, I would have to pay $13 k/year for SMU and $6k/year for UT. The lower tuition of UT seems very attractive. Also, I already spent one year at SMU. I enjoyed it but often felt like it wasn't big/diverse/fun enough for me. UT seems to offer more in the social aspect, but I am scared that I'll get lost in the crowd, especially as a transfer student. Please help! moreResolved Question: MS in Marketing (ex. Northwestern IMC, NYU Integrated Marketing)?
Hi, As an international student interested in marketing (mainly Brand Management) but who has no work experience, I was hoping to go for a masters in marketing before getting a MBA later in my life. The only TOP schools (the ones with reputable MBAs-at least top 25) with a MS in marketing I found were NorthWestern's IMC and NYU's Integrated Marketing program... Does anyone know any other MS in marketing programs from a top ranked school? In addition, I would like to know about the reputation of the two programs I mentioned above. I heard NW's IMC is a respected program in the marketing industry but compared to top MBAs (w/marketing concentration) I wonder how much it fares...As for NYU's program, I have not heard any feedbacks at all (both positive or negative) and I wonder if it is known in the business industry at all. *As a side note, the only MBA I might get right now is Cornell's accerelated MBA. I'm graduating from Cornell's undergraduate business program and they have a special option of going straight to Johnson but I was hoping to go to a much higher ranked MBA in the future instead of attending Johnson which is not that famous for marketing anyways... Hope I could receive a lot of informations from you all! Thx! moreResolved Question: Is attending a top-ranked undergraduate business school really worth the investment and effort?
I am going to be attending University at Buffalo in the fall, mainly because I didn't really take high school all that serious to make par with the better ranked schools. Ultimately I plan on getting my MBA, hopefully from a well known school. My question is, should I consider doing the best I possibly can my first year at Buffalo and transferring out to maybe a better ranked undergraduate school or should I just hang in there at UB? Also when you apply to a graduate business school for your MBA do they heavily consider what undergrad school you are coming from? Any help is greatly appreciated! moreResolved Question: U Richmond vs, Santa clara?

The first step in creating my future is a proper education. For my generation, a college education will be essential, if not necessary, to find a secure, stable career. In the past, anyone could find a job, college education or not, but as more people were able to afford college education the standards in the job market increased. Some sort of education is highly preferred, even in brainless jobs, such as cashiers or food servers. To have a stable future, I need to at least obtain a bachelors degree. After graduating from High School, I plan to get a bachelor’s degree and double major in International Studies and Spanish. I would like to attend Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania. Though it is farther away from home, I believe they have an outstanding study abroad program. They were ranked #1 in the nation for the percentage of undergraduate students studying abroad in the 2008 Open Doors report. I have been invited to study abroad with a group of select students my freshman. I am also considering Miami University and Ohio State University as they are both close to my home and also offer many great study abroad and internship opportunities. I plan to study abroad or internship abroad in Japan or Spain, to better understand the world we live in and to become culturally diverse. I believe that interning and/or studying abroad will be great experiences to have, to help prepare me for a global future. It is essential for me to get a college education, because without one, I will never have the chance to work in the international field. I will never learn how to proficiently speak a different language or know how to properly conduct myself in business meetings or interviews. Working in a large business or for the United Nations will not be possible with at least a bachelor’s degree.Yet, if I do receive a college education, all of my dreams will be possible. Four years, living independently in college, would allow me to get accustomed to being responsible for myself. Not only will I receive an education, but I will also learn many life skills. With a degree, I would be a strong candidate for any job. If I learned a foreign language, I would become an even better asset to any company. But none of this is feasible without receiving and education. The only thing keeping me from achieving my goals is that I am having financial difficulties. I live in a single parent home without the aid of child support. My father is unemployed and my mother only works part-time as a clerk in Meijer’s. Though my family would like to send me to receive an education, they cannot financially afford to send me to college, even though I have already been accepted. I hope to receive enough grants and scholarships to be able to pay for most of my fees.I would also like the committee to know that I am aware of my extensive absences throughout high school. Because of my parent’s divorce and our financial difficulties my sister and I suffered many hardships, and missed many school days. My junior year I also became very sickly during 3rd quarter because of the stress of my family situation, and spent much of my time with doctors and at the children’s hospital. I believe that I am deserving of this scholarship because I have demonstrated that I have leadership skills, determination to achieve my goal, and the desire to pursue my major. I also understand how much an education can affect ones future. As the first person in my family to attend college I hope to set an example for my younger sister so she can see that we do have the chance to better ourselves. I believe that I have just as much right as anyone else to receive an education, and should not be handicapped because my family’s situation.***I think i need to place the 2nd to last paragraph somewhere else, but I am not sure where. I do need to have this note added in there because I missed a lot of days my junior year. I also think that I don't have a good (or any) conclusion....any suggestions? This scholarship money is for a 4 year university not a high schoolThanks for the advice, its part of the essay requirements lol, but it did sound like I already got it. A MBA or a Master of Science in Information Systems ?
I was a Psychology major and obviously, the job market has proven to be extremely challenging and not very profitable after my undergraduate studies. I plan to go to Business School sometime in the future, but I would want to go to an accredited and reputable top business program. Nevertheless, I have also chosen right now to continue to a Master's program in order to have a better GPA than my undergrad as well as earn work experience. The university at which I am doing this has an MBA program but is not a top ranked at all. Should I do my Master's in Information Systems for right now and then later give it a shot for an MBA when I can have a chance to a top school or just go ahead and do the MBA at this "ok" university? moreResolved Question: I want to go NYU stern for my MBA. Hello, I have a BA in Anthropology. At the undergraduate level, I have one general Math/Algebra class and one Statistics class (both of which I received As in). I have no prior accounting or finance experience. For a career change, I plan on attending graduate school for a Master of Science in Accountancy/Accounting (M.S.A.) degree, then pursuing the CPA credential. My question is; how important is the reputation or ranking of the school from which I receive my MS (considering that I also plan to become a CPA) when it comes to getting hired by a company? The schools I am looking at in Chicago are: DePaul (seems highly selective & expensive) AACSB Loyola (seems less selective, but still expensive) AACSB University of Illinois at Chicago (seems highly selective, but inexpensive) AACSB Roosevelt University (less selective and inexpensive) ACBSP The first 3 schools have pretty good reputations, but the last one doesn't seem to, not sure??? It only has the ACBSP accreditation. I would hate to incur more debt of $40k for a degree when a degree from a much more affordable school would get me "almost" the same type of job. UIC would be my top choice (good reputation and cheaper), but it could be very difficult to get into, so my fall-back in order to save money would be Roosevelt University…ACBSP accreditation only. What do think I should do? Fork out the cash for a better school or go with the less prestigious cheaper school. As long as I have my CPA, will it matter? I intend to have 5 choices and so far I have decided on: - Yale School of Management & School of Law - University of Washington Foster School of Business & School of Law - University of Texas Austin School of Business & School of Law I still have 2 choices to go and I am stuck. I did my research on the US News & World Reports' top ranking schools in both Business & Law (I know I have to get accepted into both business & law to pursue JD/MBA) but because I've never been to those schools, I don't really know. My plan is to pick an ivy (Yale) as my ideal, then the 4 remaining schools would be realistic goals. Please help. moreResolved Question: whether it is wise for me to transfer or not?
I am an international student who currently study in michigan state university. I transfered from the university that is in my home town to michigan state university a year ago, and 34 credits have been transfered to michigan state. Now, after one year of study in michigan state, i get a 3.92 Gpa. I am considering whether it is wise for me to transfer again or not. I have a couple of concerns, and i really appreciate if you can give me some suggestion. I want to major in business, and the business college of michigan state rank #23 in the U.S. So, michigan state has a pretty good business college, and some programme like supply chain management, and accounting has a really high ranking in the us news and world report. Do you think it is wise for me to transfer again to some prestigious university like UC berkeley or UCLA? Some of my friends told me that my undergraduate degree doesn't matter unless i am able to transfer to IVY LEaGUE schools. Graduating from UCLA has no difference from graduating from michigan state university especially michigan state university has a couple of very good business programme. Second, i want to look for a job after graduation, and i currently major in logistics, and i am more interested in finance. Do you think i can get a better job easily by graduating from ucla or uc berkeley instead of michigan state? the third is that as an international student, english is not my first language, though i am a smart student.business curriculum in UC berkeley is much harder than the business curriculum in michigan state? Because competing with a lot of talent whose first language is english is a big challenge for me. Can you please give me some suggestion about the difference in course difficulty between michigan state and ucla or uc berkely? Do you think i can graduate from UC Berkely or UCLA with a good grade if i can gain admission to those universities. What can a prestigious university give me that an ordinary university can't? IS it woth for me to transfer again? Because the 34 credits that are transfer from the university in my home town might be wasted if i choose to transfer. i would really appreciate if you can give me your precious suggestion.well, tank you for your suggestion. Ok. So I just graduated high school and I'm headed to college this fall. I was originally going to major in Entrepreneurship and Finance, since the business school I am attending has both these programs in the top 10. However, more and more I've begun to realize that I am not cut out for math. Any sort of mathematics seems to me flat, and I have to work very very hard to grasp it. I took a practice GMAT, and it was a bore. I took an LSAT, and I enjoyed it very much. Since then I've been thinking of doing Entrepreneurship and Business Law. Is this a combination. I'm thinking that once undergraduate ends, I will take both the LSAT and GMAT and go into whichever field takes me farther. Is that possible to do? The only thing that stifles me is the Business Law degree is not ranked at the university, while the former two are quite highly. Does that effect anything?
