Agreements Completed for The Westin Norfolk Hotel and Conference
"Most conferences are sold 2-3 years in advance so we're on schedule for a spring 2011 opening," said Kimberly Schlick, Vice President of Marketing for LTD Management. A Westin marketing sales office on Main Street is planned to open in early fall. LTD Management and the Norfolk Convention and Visitors Bureau will cooperatively represent The Westin Hotel to meeting planners. "This will provide meeting planners and potential clients a place to come for a sensory experience that is unlike any other. Every effort will be made to inspire the public on what this project will become," said Kimberly Schlick.
Mayor Fraim said that he's confident the new Westin Hotel and Conference Center will allow the city to become more competitive in its efforts to attract the lucrative executive conference business. more
Kaneland's Joe Spitzzeri battling very rare disease
Though it was hard to travel the 100 miles round trip from the Kaneland area to Chicago for visits, there was never a shortage of cards, letters, e-mails, text messages and phone calls.
"Even when he was too weak to read them, they were still coming in," Caryn said. "When you're teammates and you find yourself very, very ill, that's one thing that brings you some happiness and comfort. Your family is important, but all the kids at Kaneland have been very thoughtful and always there for him."
One thing Joe can do is attend outdoor events. Now, Joe is back with his buddies, and they gave him quite a welcome home Thursday. Prior to the Knight's 7-4 win over Sycamore, his teammates presented him with his jersey, No. 28, and had him throw out the ceremonial first pitch. The entire celebration was kept a secret from Joe. more

I found an online (distance) Bachelors Degree program in Music Business through a school called Full Sail in Winter Park, Florida. They are a "Career School" that specializes in Entertainment Majors. I have already earned my AA Degree from a local Community College here in California and I am interested in enrolling in this Music Business Bachelors Degree program at Full Sail. They are accredited through the "Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges" which is a national Commission. However, I am worried that businesses in California (where I will work) will not look too highly at this accreditation for my Bachelors degree. Should I be worried at all? Is this just as good as any accreditation or regional accreditation? Will I have a "REAL" Bachelors degree to be proud of? Thanks! moreResolved Question: Which North American college should I pick for exchange?
Hi, I'm currently going to university in Australia, but would like to go on exchange to the states. I would like to go to a place where it snows in the winter. I plan to study Electrical Engineering or IT. Which colleges have a good reputation in these areas, These are the choice of colleges I have; California State University, Long Beach (Graphic Design & Nursing restricted) Colorado School of Mines, Golden Emory University - Goizueta School of Business (Marketing, Accounting, Economics, Finance, HRM, Info Systems & Operations Management only) Indiana University, Bloomington Montana State University, Bozeman (Law unavailable) North Carolina State University University of Arizona (courses offered in the Eller School of Management are not available) University of California System (8 campuses)** University of Colorado, Boulder (Law & Music unavailable) University of Connecticut, Storrs University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (Accountancy, Business Administration & Finance restricted) University of Kansas, Lawrence (Law unavailable) University of Massachusetts, Amherst University of Miami, Florida (Law, Medicine & Music unavailable) University of Nebraska, Lincoln University of North Carolina System (16 campuses) University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Business School unavailable) University of North Carolina, Wilmington Any help appreciated :) moreResolved Question: What state in New England should I live in?
Presently,I live in California. Previously, I have lived in Chicago and Seattle. So I would do fine in the New England climate. My personality is very... strange. I am 1/3 city chick,1/3 country loving,1/3 rocker & 100% wild and adventurous. So, I need an area that can accommodate all of my needs. I prefer to live in the suburbs. I'm looking for a 30-60 minute commute between my area and the city. When I say city, I mean: - Malls (Macy's, Borders, Forever 21, Journeys, other name-brand stores, etc.) - Employment (Business facilities, etc.) - Entertainment (Broadway, Movies, Music, Bars, Clubs, etc.) - Education (College or University, etc.) - Food & Dining (Wide variety of food choices. Asian, Italian, American, etc.) - Screw safety. (I doubt that New England can compare to Chicago/L.A) - Sports entertainment. (Foot ball Stadium... or at least in another nearby city) - Small local store, re saturates, & services. (I'm into the whole small brand, local brand store thing. Local shops add character to a city &/or town) - Mixed ethnics. (I'm Hispanic, Native American, Caucasian, Asian, Israeli, & Persian) That's about it for the city. The country is a different story though. I need within a 20-30 minute commute: - Decent horse ranch (I ride.) - Outdoor activities (Camping, hiking, etc,) - Lake (Paddling) - Farm areas & ranches. - Snowboarding/Skiing - Pure Nature, 100%. Lastly, for the suburb: - Decent area. - Not too pricey, not too cheap. - Excellent school system. - Mixed Ethnic (50% Hispanic, 50% Caucasian? Somewhere around there) - Target or other stores like it. - Basic needs. (Gas station, grocery stores, some small shops/re saturates, theaters, etc.) *I want a state with some ocean coast. California has converted me into a surfer. The ocean doesn't have to be to close though. *Has to have concerts & visits to that city. Areas I like in a life: - Sports - Music - Arts - Academics - City Entertainment - Nature life - Decent Economy *Out of all of this, I would say that the public school education is most important. Academically and extracurricular. I was looking into Boston? However, at the same time... I seem to like Main although I'm not so sure about the ethnics. I also like New Jersey... but it seems a little... closed off & plain. What other states around New England might you recommend? Just as a pointer, I love Chicago & if i can find a city similar to it, that's be great! Sorry that this is so long! Thanks though! moreResolved Question: Schools that offer a music business major?
Are there other schools with majors comparable to Columbia College's Music Business Management? Most schools have this program within a music college and require an audition and participation within an ensemble. I don't play an instrument, but I am really interested in the management/production side of the industry. The program at this school looks perfect, but I'm looking for a school that's located further west (ideally, southern California). moreVoting Question: Will UCSC Turn Me Down?
I'm a high school senior applying to University of California Santa Cruz. My 10-11 GPA is 3.4, and I got a 1930 on the SAT. I was a co president of a club on campus in 10th grade, and I'm an officer in Best Buddies, which is an organization that pairs regular students with kids who have mental disabilities. I've been seriously playing guitar, piano, and violin for 4 years now. Although I never learned notation or theory, I do have perfect pitch and a gift for making music like nobody's business. Would this qualify as a 'special talent', giving me extra admission points? I'm going up there in a few weeks to visit my brother. What could an interview do for my chances? What should I say? moreResolved Question: What do I need to get into Stanford/Berkeley?
Personally, I want to be a master pizza chef, but my parents are adamant in telling me to go to a good college first, and find a career that makes good money. I sort of agree with them, because I pretty much need some high paying job, I'm kind of interested in Finance (currency trading, stock market), being a lawyer, or maybe being a teacher/person that gives back to community in his free time. I'm a sophomore with a 4.0 GPA last year (some freshmen can take honors courses) Last year I took PE, Lit/writing, Algebra 2/Trignometry, Drama, Principles of Business, Biology, and Spanish 1. I played on the varsity tennis team as #3 singles, but our school is a middle division school, so no actual ranked players in California play there except my friend, 117 in the state and me, like 600 =[. I have been singing since 1st grade, so 9 years of music, but I have no idea how colleges verify this. Do they test you or just accept whatever you say? I also do Speech and Debate, the only member serious about it in my school, but not an officer of the team because previous graduating seniors thought a sophomore should not be president. In that this year I will probably be one of the top 64 in speech, and working hard in Lincoln Douglas Debate =[. I don't really have many community service hours at all. This year so far like 10 =P. Im probably giong to have 100ish by the end of the year. The classes I'm taking this year are Spanish 3 World Literature World History Pre Calculus Honors (but we are actually learning calculus) Journalism Chemistry Honors so 4.333333 GPA this year if I get an A in math. Is it true that I pretty much will never get into Stanford with a B? Next year i plan to take AP Calculus BC AP Chemistry American Literature Honors AP US History Spanish 4 Honors Possibly Journalism, and probably not AP Comp Sci. So that year will be 5.0 IF I get an A in all classes =3 Senior year will be AP lit, AP world history/Euro, AP Stats, AP Spanish, and probably at a college. My mom also went to Stanford and keeps rubbing it in my face XP so I think that helps too. Is this enough to get into Stanford/Berkeley? Also, what SAT scores do I need, (including SAT 2s)? Thanks for reading and for your future answers =] moreVoting Question: I need help on deciding whats right for me! Easy answer - please help!?
I am going to be a junior - I want to go to California for college that's PROMISED to myself. I wanted to do international business - but here's the thing. I definitely want to travel, but I really think photography - designing - music - and film is AMAZING. Which all of those are traveling careers anyways. So what kind of school should I go to? I play acoustic guitar, I love traveling, I love writing, creating ideas, and shopping for furniture/designs. I just love the arsty stuff. I'm not perfect at any of it, but I love it. What kind of college in California would have this stuff? moreResolved Question: Know any Music Business/Management colleges?
I'm currently a senior at my high school in Los Angeles, California, and i've been looking a colleges that incorporate a main focus in music business, production, and management. My focus: anything to do with record labels, venue production, music promoter, or potential agent. ...i've been having trouble finding colleges in my area of interest and i'd really appreciate it if you could give ideas of any sort, or lists of schools around the US/UK that incorporate the interest i want to peruse. (i'll even take advice!) thank you soo much for your help! i greatly appreciate it! -lily moreResolved Question: Career change to the music industry?
So Im having problems at work (I work in the apartment industry....high end apt complexes doing service/maintenance work). I keep getting reprimanded for having attitude problems. My bosses are telling me that I come off as extremely rude, towards both customers and co-workers, and that at company events with corporate people involved I am embarrassing our team. I dont think Im doing anything that horrible... I just dont always talk or respond to everyone the way company guidelines dictate and everyone takes offense it seems... and its mostly cause they are trying to force me to act the way they think i should. When they dont I am usually very friendly and capable. Its just personally I dont agree or want to conform to their guidelines.... I feel like theyre trying to make me a soulless car salesman. I dont belive in the product, at least not in the way they are trying to market it. They make us attend these customer service classes every so often and at the last one they gave us all this garbage about molding their image the way companies like McDonalds did..... with slogans and service with a smile and whatnot.... but the things is, Im of the opinion that companies such as mcdonalds are basically the devil. The pretend to care so that they can make money. Thats what it feels my company is trying to tell me to do.... and I wont compromise my personal standards for a paycheck. Now obviously Im not happy doing this work, if I did this wouldnt be an issue. If there is any one thing that I love its music. Im an amateur musician and though it would be awesome if I could ever perform for a paycheck its not an easy career to attain. But really if I could do pretty much ANYTHING in music I would be happy. Even sweeping floors at the capitol records building in hollywood (i live in southern california). I also have a fascination with the business side of the music industry so ive been looking into attending Musicians Institute in hollywood and getting a music business degree. But the problem is that my present job pays decent (about 40-45k a year) and if I went for something else...say a job at guitar center... i would likely be making half that at best. Fortunately I have no kids or significant other that I need to support so it may be feasible. So my questions are these: Is it worth it to drop everything and attempt to shift to a career in an extremely tough business just because of my ideals? Or am I just complaining too much like all the suits at work are telling me? Is there anyone out there whos been in a similar situation regardless of the career fields? Anyone in the music industry who could point me in the right direction (im up for anything in music but am most interested in performing, managing/producing, or engineering fields....possibly writing but i dont really wanna give up my original material)? Are there any better schools out there for music business than MI (preferably in socal but ill consider other states)? Any input appreciated... thanks to those who actually read all this :). moreVoting Question: Is this a good entry level resume?

one of my moms best friends had a daughter my age and we have known each other since we were born and her cousin who is also our age was always around (he is the guy). her mom died when we were about 6 and her dad ended up getting a job and they had to move to illinois i live in pa btw... well they have moved about 6 times since then and have never got moved back to pa but any how i went to a private school and since she was never around me and her cousin weren't close anymore...but we went to the same middle school and grew very close again. btw we are going into 10th grade. but i started playing hockey with him and we have had a lot of fun and he is like my brother now and we are always together, but his parents are divorced and his dad lives in new jersey he visits there every summer but his dad is a perfessional chief and he hurt his back this past year. my friend wants to stay with his dad this coming school year and not come back...when i told me this i wanted to break down crying. our parents, hockey coaches...well lets just say basically everyone thinks we are going to end up married but anyhow i decided i would tell him how i felt about him...he was shocked but doesnt feel the same way cause he thinks it would be weird since we are such good friends. i think the opposite though i think us being so close would make our relationship better...we have the same dreams...we both would like to move to california and do something in the music business... our lifes have the same goals and we are really alike...do you think it is possible for us to date or end up together one day? and how should i convince him to go out with me? the other thing is i have only been playing hockey the past 3 yrs because of him i mean i have a lot of fun playing but if he isnt there things arent going to be the same it was something we kinda have done together should i continue playing? thank you to whoever can help me... i really have fallen in love and i dont wanna ruin anything moreResolved Question: Burn in hell suge, see what he's been up to?
There is plenty of evidence to put this man away, First Pac Now Melissa Isaac plus many others Marion Knight was born in Compton, California. His name, Suge (pronounced /ʃʊɡ/), derives from "Sugar Bear", a childhood nickname.[1] He remained an excellent student and athlete, so much so that he won a football scholarship to University of Nevada, Las Vegas where he played collegiate football for several years.[2] After school, he played professionally for the Los Angeles Rams as a replacement player during the 1987 NFL strike.[3] Later, he found work as a concert promoter and a bodyguard for celebrities including Bobby Brown. Knight's legal problems began in 1987 when he faced auto theft, concealed weapon and attempted murder charges, ultimately receiving probation. Two years later, he formed his own music-publishing company, and allegedly made his first big fortune in the business by coercing Vanilla Ice into signing over royalties from his smash hit "Ice Ice Baby" owing to material that he supposedly sampled from one of Knight's company associates. (The possibly apocryphal story holds that Knight held Ice by his ankles off of a 20th-floor balcony, though in Ice's version, the threat was more implied.) Knight next formed an artist management company and signed prominent West Coast hip hop artists The D.O.C. and DJ Quik. Through the former, he met several members of the seminal gangsta rap group N.W.A. In 1993, Suge would have a son, Andrew, born on April 19, sharing the same birthday as him. Andrew is currently living in Greater Los Angeles area with his mother, "Tia". Another son, Taj, is said to be living in Atlanta with his mother, Davina Barnes. Most recently, a daughter, Bailei, with R&B singer Michel'le.[4] Death Row Records The logo for Death Row Records is a blindfolded man strapped into an electric chair Dr. Dre of N.W.A wished to depart from both his group and their label, Ruthless Records, run by Eazy-E, another member of N.W.A. According to N.W.A's manager Jerry Heller, Knight and his henchmen threatened Heller and Eazy-E with pipes and baseball bats in order to secure Dre's release[5]. Ultimately, Dre co-founded Death Row Records in 1991 with Knight, who famously vowed to make it "the Motown of the '90s." For a time, Knight made good on his ambitions: He secured a distribution deal with Interscope, and Dre's 1992 solo debut, The Chronic, became one of the most influential rap albums of all time[6]. It also made a star of Dre's protégé, Snoop Doggy Dogg, whose debut album, Doggystyle, was another smash hit in 1993[7]. As Dre's signature G-funk production style became an influential part of hip-hop, Death Row became a reliable brand name for gangsta rap fans, and even its lesser releases sold consistently well. Meanwhile, Death Row had begun a public feud with 2 Live Crew's Luther Campbell, and when Knight traveled to Miami for a hip-hop convention in 1993, he was apparently seen openly carrying a gun. The following year, he opened a private, by-appointment-only nightclub in Las Vegas called Club 662, so named because the numbers spelled out MOB, Knight's gang affiliation, on telephone keypads. In 1995, he ran afoul of activist C. Delores Tucker, whose criticism of Death Row's glamorization of the "gangsta" lifestyle may have helped scuttle a lucrative deal with Time Warner. The addition of Tupac Additionally, Knight's feud with East Coast impresario Sean Combs (aka P Diddy) took a nasty turn when Knight insulted the Bad Boy label honcho on air at the Source Awards in August 1995. Openly critical of Puffy's tendency of ad-libbing on his artists' songs and dancing in their videos, Knight announced to the audience of recording artists and industry figures, "Anyone out there who wanna be a recording artist and wanna stay a star, but don't have to worry about the executive producer trying to be all in the videos, all on the records, dancing, come to Death Row." The same year, Knight offered to post a hefty bail for Tupac Amaru Shakur if the troubled rapper agreed to sign with Death Row. Shakur agreed, setting the stage for his 1996 blockbuster double album All Eyez on Me and the smash hits "California Love" and "How Do U Want It." Shakur helped Death Row stay on top of a marketplace that was already shifting back toward the East Coast, which had devised its own distinct brand of hardcore rap. The loss of Dr. Dre and Tupac However, the label suffered a major blow when Dr. Dre, frustrated with the company's increasingly thuggish reputation and Knight's violent inclinations, decided to leave and form his own label. A stream of Dre-dissing records followed, but things turned tragic in September 1996, when Shakur was murdered in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas. When Shakur's East Coast rival, The Notorious B.I.G., was murdered in a similar fashion in March 1997, speculation immediately arose that Knight was involved and that B.I.G.'s death was a revenge killing; although former Dea moreResolved Question: Can somebody help me?
ok, hi. im 15.. basically 16. turning 16 on may 6th. im a sophomore in high school in virginia. im filipino, 4'11", tiny. iv been horseback riding for 8 years(english, eventing), and its my passion. my longterm dream that will never happen is to compete in the US olympics eventing team. winning gold would be more than i could ask for. but we dont really have any money, just enough to get by. we live in a townhouse. i half-lease(cuz its all we could afford) a beautiful horse that i wish i could own and take hunter/jumper lessons with my trainer weekly. i cant even show off the farm, well i could, but probably not every weekend like most people. as i said before, we dont really have any money, just enough to get by and have a little extra fun. what i'm asking for is a miracle. someday for it to all turn around. dont get me wrong, i am very grateful i can even be able to half-lease bella(the horse). she is a beautiful 7 year old 15.1hh chestnut dutch warmblood x appendix cross mare. just perfect. and the faculty is perfect. and everything.. but i'm a dreamer, and a dreamer with big dreams and no possibilty whatsoever. i hate school. i absolutely hate school. im a very social person, but also not a very social person. i dont like hanging out with people really because i dont have anything to say. sometimes i do, sometimes i dont. depends what kind of day it is. high school in general is what i hate. i hate how all the girls are, my school is so cliquey, and all that the guys at my school care about is sex. girls at my school are sluts too. i was one of them in 8th grade. i've done everything with a boy except sex already. that boy was my first real everything and yes, i fell in love with him and he will always have a special place in my heart. sometimes i like to think he is the reason why i am having such a hard time in life. why im always feeling so down. why i feel like my body is a waste. but then i think about how much i care about him and how much i want to protect him. i dont know, can someone relate to me..? probably not, but maybe someone could understand.. i really wish i could just quit school. its so fucking unfair. another side of me wishes i could be a celebrity. you know, disney channel star, singer, actor, triple threat. chased around by papparazi. interviews. 89374987 followers on twitter. I am a high school junior looking at colleges. I know that when I'm done with schooling im going to start a record label. I'm looking for a school that would have a major in business (possibly music business, but almost no schools have that) and a minor in music production. know of any good schools? moreResolved Question: Education Reform (CA)?
It's no secret, our system of education is not working. I was talking with my girlfriend this morning, and we kinda came up with a proposal. We're going to send a letter to the State Board of Education, but first we wanted to ask Y!Answers a question. Our goal is to: 1. Get rid of subjects that aren't really used in society. 2. Add subjects that are necessary in society. 3. Cut down the amount of time kids spend in school (by law). 4. Make schooling more efficient. What do you think should be core subjects students K-8 take? We came up with a couple, feel free to add to or critique what we have... Elementary School 1. Math (Up to Basic Algebra, percentages, interest, etc...) 2. English (Grammar, Vocabulary, Spelling, Sentence Structure, Formal and Business Letters, etc...) 3. Social Studies (Basic laws, our Political System, what it means to be a citizen, how to participate in government, the court system, etc...) 4. Computer Science (Basic computer skills, Basic office skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.., how to navigate the internet, etc...) 5. Physical Education 6. Optional: Electives (Music, Dance, Art, etc...) You have to pay for these or do some fundraising though Middle School 1. Health (Nutrition, exercise) 2. Application of Elementary Courses. For example, have them watch the local news and throughout the year work on ways they can help work towards a solution to a problem in their society. In other words, teach kids how to apply what they've learned to real life. 3. Sex Education (Abstinence, Protection, Consequences, etc...) This is important though, teachers will have to be as unbiased as possible. Really teaching kids about everything, without leaning one way or another. This class should also try to involve each students' parents as much as possible. 4. Drugs and Alcohol (This includes prescription drugs as well as illicit drugs) 5. Voting (Students need to become more politically active so that their voices are heard) 6. Social Life (Kind of like a Career Guidance class. Talk to kids about why it's good to pursue further education - High School - and explain to kids what they can expect if they finished at 8th grade or so. Explain what kind of jobs they can get, but also how they won't be able to get paid as much or move up as easily as they could if they continued their education) We think that by making High School optional, the kids that want to be their will be more motivated to stay. We're losing a lot of kids due to overcrowded High School classrooms, and overcrowded with kids that don't want to be there. They're disruptive and the teacher has to sacrifice the education of the many for the few. I think by doing this, we'll shrink class sizes drastically, and give teachers and schools greater control of their classrooms. There can be social benefits for staying in school, like job assistance and welfare aid available to those who finish High School. A two-fold minimum wage. One for those who only complete Junior High, and one for those who complete High School. Instead of trying to graduate everyone (thus reducing the meaning of a High School Diploam) we should focus what we teach our kids in middle and elementary classes, and then let those who want to continue receive better education in High School. History shouldn't be taught in middle school. It makes no sense, and it puts kids off school. They get so used to b#tching to each other about their classes that it just continues straight on through High School. I know this proposal is radical, but we need a change badly. And what better state to try it in, than California. Thoughts?MissBehavior...I'm not sure I understand all of what you mean. What exactly am I leaving out? I'm simply postponing those classes that tend to cause children to be put off of school for a later period (high school). How does history or science or whatever else I'm "leaving out" help develop a child's soul? Keep in mind these classes are in place now, and they aren't doing anything except making the lives of serious high school students and high school teachers miserable. All I'm suggesting really, is to reogranize our education system. Teach students the importance of education before "educating" them. Understand? Instead of teaching European history in 7th grade, when students couldn't care less, teach them European history in 10th grade and use the extra time in 7th grade to help them understand the importance of learning as much about our past as the basic skills you need to survive in society. By the way, I'd expect that most parents would still have their kids go to HS moreVoting Question: What classes do you recommend a sophomore in high school to take for these occupations?
I'm talking about AP classes, electives, and extra courses that you suggest for these jobs. Hi, I am a high school student and I was wondering if any of you could help me in perfecting my resume or provide me with any advice to get into college. With that being said …. I go to school at University High School in Irvine California, one of the top-ranked public high schools in California. Aside from being academically vigorous and challenging, it is also home of possibly 2000 Asian Americans. All of whom possess similar characteristics; musical instrument, solid grades, good SAT /AP scores, athletic sort(s), and community service hours here and there. I was wondering if you had an advice on how I would be able to stand out amongst thousands of clones. Now a little about myself. I am Taiwanese, as well as 1/16th Hispanic. Weird, yes, i know. To be honest, I am nothing close to a stellar student. I have poor grades, a 3.49 weighted GPA through my freshman and sophomore years. This year, my junior year, I am currently juggling a 4.0 weighted GPA. Last year, I took the AP Exam for US History and received a 5, but scored a low 680 on my SAT2s. I’ve taken the SAT2 for Chinese and Math Level 2, and received 800s on both. I’ve also scored a 2300 on my SAT 1. However, in my first semester of sophomore year I received 2 C’s (one in APUSH and another in Algebra 2). I managed to raise my APUSH grade to an A- the following semester, and my math grade to a B. Here are some of the school activities that I am involved in. I have been part of Student Council for 3 years. I am the Club President of Fiddle For Fun. Fiddle For Fun is an organization that I started this year that provides free tutoring opportunities at local elementary schools. It also helps fund raise with the principals of these schools in raising money to buy school supplies. (I’ve organized a jog-a-thon, a mini marathon where students gather pledges on the # of laps they run and all donations benefit the school). I am also the a board member of Model United Nations, Mock Trial, as well as the VP of Kiwins and Save Darfur! I’ve been part of the school orchestra since freshman year, and played basketball and wrestling for the school team. I am also a writer for our school newspaper and magazine. Here are some of things I participate outside of school. As I stated above, I am part of the school orchestra. I play the viola. Since freshman year, I have participated in the All-State Orchestra, All-Southern Orchestra, as well as the All-National Orchestra. This summer I had the amazing opportunity of being invited by IYCA (a local orchestra) to play in the Summer Beijing Olympics. I toured Seoul, Korea as well as Beijing, China playing my viola at various locations, including the Great Wall of China and at the Opening Ceremony. The summer of my freshman year, I spent a few weeks in Taiwan teaching English to its native speakers. I traveled to Mexico as well as Ecuador to help build homes either as part of missions or leadership programs. I will be going to India this winter break for a week apart of IYCA to spread musical awareness to the less fortunate and teach natives the basic fundamentals in learning how to read as well play a musical instrument. Along with IYCA, I have helped raised thousands of dollars to purchase violins that will be given to natives in India who possess a keen interest in learning the art of music. I also published 2 short children books, in Mandarin and English. I am a member of T.I.P, an organization that provides emotional support to victims who have experienced a life changing tragedy, such as a car crash. I’ve interned for a district attorney, and am currently interning at a sports agency company. Lastly, I attend church every week, and am part of my church choir as well as its monthly visits to a nursery home. That being said, I need your help. I am not in my top percent of my class, and do not have impressive grades. I would like to pursue a career in business management. I want to be able to go to a top-notch school, such as UPENN even if its just for undergrad. It would be nice to make my parents proud. If you had any advice, please, please let me know! Thank you! moreResolved Question: can someone proof read my artists statement for art school?
hey , im applying to an art school in california , and they want an artists statement about who i am , why i want to go to there school and what inspires me etc is this ok Personal Statement Practicing art and design is not just to persue me career or my hobby , its my life. Being a creative person , I naturally am inspired by many things and am sensitive to my surroundings, and I cant imagine living my life without it. When I started studying It helped me make decisions about where I wanted to go in the creative fields starting in a broad range of subjects like graphic design, painting and 3D work working my way through many fields to narrowing down what I felt inspired me most , I am currently studying illustration at Parsons Paris school of design , through this I have studied : illustration concepts , typography , fashion illustration , painting , drawing and multimedia techniques , I have been shown various animations by students at your school in my illustration concepts class and have been inspired to create something like this myself , I feel that XXX` has that certain style I want to express myself in, its not too traditional and I can see that the students enjoy themselves in their work . I feel that my work is more successful when I have fun with what I am doing. I want to feel fulfilled with what I produce and keep feeding my creativity and I feel that the school and what it has to offer has the tools to help me do that. After I graduate I would like to proceed into the masters program at XXX or look for work as an animator within the film industry. Travelling has always been a passion of mine. I grew up in Glasgow and spent most of my life there studying, I then moved to London when I was 16 to live with my Father and assist in the up-keeping of his shop and Business. When I was 18 I moved to the French countryside and I am now living in Paris. This summer I visited the states for the first time and I was so inspired by the culture and the difference from Europe, France can be so conservative some times in keeping the old ways and frowning upon the young and new ideas although I do realise that make history, you sometimes have to learn from it, although I love it here I feel its time to get out and see the world, your school seems to be the place to be , I like the location of the school too , not too far but not too near Los Angeles , where I can have peace of mind , but if I need something ,this part of America has some great resources. I also think that teamwork is an essential part of being an animator and I see that faculty and students have a bond with the students and everyone works as a team and brings their talents into the final results, its great being independent but when you have an idea that people can feed off of and create something spectactuar. Being in multicultural schools all of my live has taught me how to deal with many different kinds of people and attitudes , how to communicate well and what to expect. my influences include music , children’s books , folklore tales , poetry , nature documentrys , art nouveau, wilderness , abandoned spaces, fashion , paranormal stories , architechture, mystery , travel , Parisian culture, my experiences, videogames , comics, my favorite being Sandman by Neil Gaiman, photography and theatre. thats all ive done so far , but can anyone give me pointers , ive never had to do this before argh moreResolved Question: What are my chances at getting in the colleges of my choice?

i' am a Taurus and she is a Pisces. 4 years ago when i first started college 19 i saw a girlfriend from high school and asked her if she had any friends that would like to go on a date. she did and funny thing is this girl she hooked me up with ran throughout my life and i didn't even know it. where i worked she lived pretty much next door, where i grew up her dads best friend was my neighbor and even my grandparents best friends went a mission for religion which brought her parents to this state and her dads friends are my dads business associates and did not even know it. Her and my relationship was very explosive and we clicked on everything and supported each other for whatever we did. Her parents especially her dad is a very strict man being russian orthodox. So it took many years for him to accept me. 3 years until he even recognized me and eventually loved me like a son. My parents loved her just the same and she even spent holidays like christmas together. So i had a childhood friend that was around me since grade school. we went and did alot together. he went to college somewhere and even came back after because he missed chillin with all of his old friends mainly me. We even went out and worked together in a different state for a while. My girlfriend was around him enough to understand him but he always had a girlfriend. I never thought what happened would. Me and her loved each other very much and it came down to this. within the past year she moved to california to pursue her career and we did the long distance thing because what i did i needed to be here. I ended moving there to be with her plus we had chosen out furniture and everything over the past year that we stored a my parents house. I lived with her for a month. Now when i got out there i was really out of my element. so i freaked out twice in front of her and that was a complete turnoff obviously. Because of her job she was able to take anyone she wanted to go on a trip and i just started a job. literally the day she left on her trip was my first day so i obviously stayed in our new place. She was able to take whoever she wanted with her because of her job. everytime other than this time it was me because my job permitted me to go. She took my friend who lived back in my home state and since i had alot of trust in him 15 years worth i wasn't worried. now i was working ya know trying to pay for our own way in a new area in a new place and we had just moved out of her old place cause it was to small for two. she had a dog she had adopted 2 years ago who i took care of partial of the time. so i also stayed so he wouldn't have to be put in a kennel. Now when she got back only after 6 days with my friend. she dumped me and because i was so naive i didn't even connect the two together. So after barely moving to a new place to start a new life with a love i got dumped. i cried and asked her why when she told me she did not want to do this anymore and she really couldn't give me an answer. Saying its me not you. I know that means its me. So to my shock after 4 years with my g/f she dumped me to be with my friend who i allowed to go on a trip together and surprisingly he lives with her in our place only 4 days after we broke up in a different state. I know there is much more to it than that. They do have alot in common like music and style wise and all that but is really over just like that. She even changed her phone number on me. i never bothered her and only called her once about it when i really found out what had happened. I was mad of course because how can this have happened. i gave her all the freedom in the world. i loved her for whatever she wanted and we kept in very close contact even in the long distance time. seeing each other for a couple of days once a month. because of this i'am so heartbroken to have hooked two people in my life up that have been in it for years. i don't know how to feel and i have cried and i don't know how to laugh. iam very depressed and i miss her. it has been two months and i can't believe it. i need help. because of my own personal issues did i push my soul mate away forever. She says she is happier than she has been in a long time. i don't bother with emails and i know what her new phone number is and i know where her place is. and i don't take advantage of any of it. do i just wait it out. what do i do. do i be happy for her. do i drag my old buddy out and kick the sh!t out of him. now my old buddy has done this before with our friend in high school but i had his back of course and on a bunch of other stuff. my heart is so destroyed i can't even find a quantum of solace. i know that i fought with her a few times but isn't a relationship supposed to have fights. is it done just like that. moreResolved Question: What Are My Chances of getting into UC Santa Cruz?

I Did This In History A Couple Of Weeks Ago, And Totally Forgot About It. The Topic Is Supposed To Be America: Land Of Opportunities. The Teacher Could Enter It In A Contest If It Was Maximum 500 Words. Of Course, I Went Overboard. Living in house with 6 other guys is probably the most horrifying thing a 17 year old girl could probably go through. “ Cali! Open up! I need to get my video game!” Collin was hammering the door with his fists. “Why did you have it in my room in the first place?” I opened the door until the chain lock stopped it. “Don’t know.” I looked on my dresser next to me, and grabbed it. “Here,” I threw it to him. Don’t come in my room ever again.” he rolled his eyes and walked away. I slammed the door. Let’s see: I have five brothers: Collin, Cashel, Hudson, Emerson, and Dean Martin. Then, there’s my father: Corbin Martin. Actually, Hudson, Emerson, and Dean are my step-brothers; all of which stayed with us when my father divorced each of their mothers. Each. And the worst part of all this is that I’m the only female in the house. Translation: the only person without a future. Collin and Emerson are 15, and both have scholarships to Harvard. Hudson, who’s my age, dropped out and now has a skateboard company. Dean and Cashel, the oldest, have multi-millionaire corporate businesses, and they’re letting us live with them. My father, the money-hogging, son loving idiot, has five restaurants worldwide, soon to open one here in LA. And California Rose Martin, myself, is stuck to attend a private school in northern LA, with nothing but a job at Starbucks and a minimum-wage paycheck. Lucky me. My father doesn’t think I’ll be successful. He always tells me: “California, you’ll never make it if you don’t get your head out of the clouds, planning things like playing music. The music business is for people with talent in that area.” And then I scream at him and march to my room. Daily routine. ******* ******** ******** “Jeez, Cal. You look beat.” Miranda told me on Monday. “Yea, well, that’s what happens when you don’t have mirrors in your house.” I look at her, unamused. “Why can’t I just live with you and your family? Your family is actually a family. Not a bachelor pad.” I tell her. I feel like I’m one of those itchy sweaters grandma’s send to there grandsons for Christmas. Useless and unwanted. Miranda clicks her tongue. “Well, isn’t it possible to be, like, divorced from your parents? Or parent, for that matter.” she says. “You mean emancipated?” “Yea, that’s it.” I never really thought of being emancipated. Miranda interrupted my thoughts. “My dad’s a lawyer. So if and when this gets settled, you could come live with us! If you want, I mean. You’ll have free will.” we smiled at each other in unison. Two years later…………….. “I can’t believe it! I’m free! Thank you so much, Mr. Catheridge!” I hugged him so hard that I think he was even more stiff in his suit than before. “No, problem Cali. Miranda told me you’ve had it hard.” I smiled as Miranda came running towards us. “Oh! You did it!” we hugged. “Now you can come live with me!” she says. Mr. Catheridge looks at his watch. “Ooh. I have to go. Love you, M! Good luck, Cali!” he says running to his car. “I know this guy, Griffin, who owns a club, I guess you could call it. Every Friday, he has a bunch of indie artists perform there. A lot of agents come to see them, because a lot of LA’s best artists have been discovered there. I seriously think you should perform!” I blush at her enthusiasm. “Oh, I couldn’t Mir---” she stares at me bug-eyed. “So you’re telling me that the only reason you got emancipated from your nightmale is to have free will? Oh, come on! Part of that free will is making your dreams come true, girl!” she said. Nightmale is her definition of my ‘former’ life; nightmare + male species. We got into her car. “Fine,” I said. “But, you owe me big time.” I said, pouting. Miranda laughs. “Oh, sweetie, its gonna be you who owes me.” Friday.. Gigantic beads of sweat were pouring from my forehead. I can do this, I can do this, I can do this. “I can’t do this! I can’t do this!” I was pacing back and forth in my dressing room. “What’d you mean you can’t do this!? You’ve never acted all freak on me before.” Miranda was spinning in one of the parlor chairs in the dressing room, twirling her hair. I stopped pacing and sat down. “Yea, I haven’t. Its just that I haven’t ever played in front of people since---” I winced. Right now probably wasn’t the best time. I still thought about it…….. Mommy, you’ll be able to come to the talent show tonight, right? I asked my mother. She’s been to almost all of my performances. I’ll try my hardest to be there on time. You know I love it when you perform. Dad walks in, drunk. The boys are at Ryan’s. Crystal, you shouldn’t waste valuable time on encouraging your daughter to get involved with music. I wrote: The climate in America has become stagnant in that there's been a decrease in our actual culture. Education has been watered down dumbed. Americans have become soft-ists to the point of a complacency. Industry in only a shadow of what it once was. Jobs are being shipped over seas at even increasing rates. The majority of jobs available fall into either the technical sales or service industries. In a way economically speaking its like selling air there's no true value as you would have in a industrial economy. The idea is to invest in the people. Obama is asking the elite wealthy of the country who has been so good to them to contribute just a bit more 3% not as a punishment but a patriotic act. Obama proposals or plan is to invest in the people by redistributing a small portion of wealth to the youth the future of America. Investing in education, infrastructure, science and technology. Investing in small business creation leveling the playing field. Simply making small farmers capable of competing in the food markets. Obama's plan will create a whole new renaissance in America To create a new era of enlightenment as such is a renaissance you must start with the youth. By improving the elementary level of education and making it available to ALL Americans will flood our universities thus creating the era of knowledge and arts. Arts in an area severely diminished in our currant nationalism seen in political polls on where we are headed as a country. Our currant education system is an embarrassment when compared to other developed countries. Music has seen a huge decline. When I was a kid it was a popular idea to grow up to be a scientist. You just don't hear that from kids today. We need to excite the young in these areas. I had observed many striking similarities between FDR and Barak Obama. Occasional capitalism needs to be tempered with some beneficial social policies. This I feel is one of these times. Roosevelt spoke: "Throughout the nation men and women, forgotten in the political philosophy of the Government, look to us here for guidance and for more equitable opportunity to share in the distribution of national wealth… I pledge you, I pledge myself to a new deal for the American people… This is more than a political campaign. Equal access to educational opportunities, she said, also lies at the heart of one of the nation's most important core values -- the belief in the United States as a true meritocracy. Arnold Schwarzenegger. As an educator, Rice said it broke her heart to see "kids who might be the next Nobel Prize winner ... trapped in some public school that's just basically warehousing them." "But as a secretary of state, it makes me terrified because ... if we cannot do better in educating all of our people, then we are not going to be competitive in a global economy," she said. "We're going to become protectionist, we're going to turn inward, the United States is not going to lead." Moreover, she said, the lack of quality education for all children jeopardizes the fundamental American belief that every citizen has the opportunity for success, no matter their background or place of origin. "If we can't keep that true for every American, we're going to lose who we are, and then we won't lead, and so it is for me the most pressing national security issue," she said. Rice offered little in the way of concrete solutions for addressing inequities in public schools -- suggesting part of the answer lies in "the best practices" adopted by schools that succeed and "having high standardsYou all have valid points. I know throwing money at something isn't the answer but we do need to start somewhere. moreResolved Question: What college would I go to for the performing arts (including dance) in Southern California?
I want to go to college at where I am formally from, Southern California. I am very interesting in the performing and visual arts department or learning. I currently know how to play flute, and I know the basics of singing. I really want to learn how to play violin and piano, but of course with the money issues of our economy, I cannot afford lessons. However, I am a sophomore in high school, and I would love to go to a college in Southern California that I could major in something such as dancing, or anything that has to do with music or the music business. But I am mostly interesting in dancing. Can anyone please give me some guidance as to where I could find a good college with what I am interested in? Thank you. :] moreVoting Question: Am i wrong? will i get in trouble? Should i call my parents?
Okay so i am really depressed. I hate school, and have no friends even though i try so hard. My brother is a pervert and a bully. My sister hates me. My parents are just disfuktional. I am a boy and straight. (just thought i would say that). Okay there is only one good thing in my family and that is my cousins who are girls and twins. I am 15 and so are they. They live halfway across the country though so i only see them in family reunions and christmas. Its so cool being with them. I sometimes fantasize that they are my sisters. Well, i had a really bad fight with my family and i just hat them. Also i think i should tell you that they are like rich at least richer than me. Their mom (my aunt.) works for a gigantic music business. She is like one of the bosses. Well i was talking to my cousins over the phone one night and we came up with the perfect plan. I could come live with them for a little while. We knew my parents wouldn't allow it. so i left for school one day but actually i took a taxi to the airport. they used their mom's credit with the airport line. she flies all the time and its not even a thing. they were able get me the tickets so i could easily get through everything. And in like 5 hours i was in their state...California! I couldnt' imagine i was there. They met me at the airport and drove to their home. Their mom won't be back in two weeks or more! They're suppose to be taken care of by their older brother but he is barely there. So we have like an almost mansion to ourselves. Life is sweet. it has been 6 days and my parents are probably worried. i left a note on my bed telling them i was gone but would come back soon and that i would be safe. Things are sweet. we have don'e so many fun thigns in hollywood and just L.A in general. I am kinda feeling guilty i don't know if i should call them or not. What should i do? Was it a cool plan? A good idea?Sorry, i don't really want to knwo if it was wrong because i know it was. i really want to know if i should call my parents, if it was a smart idea and if it was a good plan. moreResolved Question: full sail or musician's institute? or any other colleges/universities with good music buisiness programs?
Full Sail seems perfect for what I want to do, which is "music business" (working with bands or at a record label). I have heard terrible things about Full Sail, though. Is the school really as bad as some people say? People have said it's a complete waste of time and too expensive, and that the school doesn't do anything for career placement. According to their website, it seems great, but I can't forget what else I've read... Also, does the Musician's Institute in California have a good music business program? I haven't really looked into them much. Which one would be the wiser choice to attend? Or, what other colleges or universities have what I'm looking for?anyone else..what do you have to say about Columbia College in Chicago? I checked it out because of one of the answers and I'm in love. It seems legit...I think it would be great. any opinions? people who have gone there? moreResolved Question: I don't know what to do!....?

Everyone always has their goals and dreams for after high school or college or whatever, and I don't. haha...i mean I can't sing or anything so I'm not going to move to California, and i just have NO idea at all what I want to do. I want to wear a cute suit every day and go in a big building and just work! haha I haven't gotten passed that yet. But I'm in high school now, and I want to start taking classes that will help me in the long run. I was thinking about how cool it would be to be a tour manager or something, but I don't think I could do that unless it was for like Jason Mraz or something =P haha. I'm just kind of getting down I guess because everyone seems to know what they're going to do, except me! So I guess my question is...do you know any jobs that I could look in to? I play basketball but that's definitely not something I want to do when I get older...i love music, i'm not good at talking with people, but i'm going to have to get over that sometime, i'm really good with computers, and i work really hard! ...just thought that information could help moreResolved Question: Can I get an list of the California colleges I can get into with my resume? ?

I'm only 16, but I am entering college next year for my senior year in high school. I plan on finishing my AA at a community college but would then like to go to an entertainment business school. Maybe Belmont, UM, or a college in California. I'm primarily interested in Music, but would also like to explore the film industry and maybe incorporate the two. I love to travel and I love meeting and talking to new people. I don't know how to put this all together. I just don't want to waste time at a college just getting a bland degree in Business because I really have a passion for the entertainment industry. I'm also trying to look for places that I can get some experience in the behind-the-scenes work even if it isn't directly related.. Maybe a television station, film studio or playhouse theater. If you know where I can begin or have done something similar to what I want to do, please help! moreResolved Question: I want to become an actress, any advice?

Vice Presidents and personnel directors of the one hundred largest corporations were asked to describe their most unusual experience interviewing prospective employees... A job applicant challenged the interviewer to an arm wrestle. Interviewee wore a Walkman, explaining that she could listen to the interviewer and the music at the same time. Candidate fell and broke arm during interview. Candidate announced she hadn't had lunch and proceeded to eat a hamburger and french fries in the interviewers office. Candidate explained that her long-term goals was to replace the interviewer. Candidate said he never finished high school because he was kidnapped and kept in a closet in Mexico. Balding Candidate excused himself and returned to the office a few minutes later wearing a headpiece. Applicant said if he was hired he would demonstrate his loyalty by having the corporate logo tattooed on his forearm. Applicant interrupted interview to phone her therapist for advice on how to answer specific interview questions. Candidate brought large dog to interview. Applicant refused to sit down and insisted on being interviewed standing up. Candidate dozed off during interview. The employers were also asked to list the "most unusual" questions that have been asked by job candidates. "What is it that you people do at this company?" "What is the company motto?" "Why aren't you in a more interesting business?" "What are the zodiac signs of all the board members?" "Why do you want references?" "Do I have to dress for the next interview?" "I know this is off the subject, but will you marry me?" "Will the company move my rock collection from California to Maryland?" "Will the company pay to relocate my horse?" "Does your health insurance cover pets?" "Would it be a problem if I'm angry most of the time?" "Does your company have a policy regarding concealed weapons?" "Do you think the company would be willing to lower my pay?" "Why am I here?" Also included are a number of unusual statement made by candidates during the interview process... I have no difficulty in starting or holding my bowel movement. At times I have the strong urge to do something harmful or shocking. I feel uneasy indoors. Sometimes I feel like smashing things. Women should not be allowed to drink in cocktail bars. I think that Lincoln was greater than Washington. I get excited very easily. Once a week, I usually feel hot all over. I am fascinated by fire. I like tall women. Whenever a man is with a woman he is usually thinking about sex. People are always watching me. If I get too much change in a store, I always give it back. Almost everyone is guilty of bad sexual conduct. I must admit that I am a pretty fair talker. I never get hungry. I know who is responsible for most of my troubles If the pay was right, I'd travel with the carnival. I would have been more successful if nobody would have snitched on me. My legs are really hairy. I think I'm going to throw-up. moreResolved Question: How do I convince my parents to let me go to my dream school?
I'm currently a high school senior and have spent lots of time researching colleges. My ultimate goal is to work in the music business, and in order to get the necessary internships and to make vital connections in the industry, my goal was to go to school in California. I found my perfect school (LMU in Los Angeles), I've read books about the school, researched how much it costs to fly there (out of a local airport through skybus it's only $75-100), already worked on scholarships, and talked with current students in order to know more about the campus. This is really and truly the school I see myself at. I only have one problem, I live in North Carolina and when I mentioned to my parents (with all the info about the school in hand), I was immediately shot down. My parents have decided it's too far away for me to go. I understand it is quite a distance but I'm willing to do whatever it takes to go to LMU. Does anyone have any advice about how to talk to my parents about this?Actually you can fly from NC (Greensboro) to LA (tech. it's Burbank, but that's close enough) through skybus for $75-100. It's one of those low cost airlines. And to the guy that called me immature... umm... ok. I never claimed to be the most mature person in the world, after all I am 17. My goal is to work in the music industry, and I'm sorry if you feel that's not attainable. I want to work as a music supervisor or a talent scout for a record label, and I've spent a lot of time researching careers within the music industry. I don't really see how that's not possible if I'm willing to do the work and make the necessary connections. My parents disapprove of the distance. However, this contradicts a statement they made when we first started discussing colleges, they said "as long as I can find the necessary scholarships and financial aid so that it's no more expensive than NCSU I can go to the school of my choice." But now they're saying IF I get in and find the money, I still can't. moreResolved Question: do i have a chance at being accepted into nyu or usc ???
